#i really miss the old series where there was like 22 episodes at least in a season; and fillers ARE important

I feel Clone X being Cody would be as emotional as it possible being Tech, because... the last time Crosshair saw Cody, they were fighting side by side. And Cody protected and helped Crosshair during the time, when all other regs ignored him.
Having Cody/Clone X call Crosshair out on "You could have been one of us" also has a double meaning of him trying to make Crosshair see the other side from S2.
I know people want it to be Tech and it probably is, but gods, having him be killed off and then brainwashed and revealed at what is gonna be the way mid/late part of the series is... oof. Especially since I doubt they'd kill him off AGAIN as a mercy kill because he's too brainwashed. That means he'd need to be helped back to normal again and there won't be enough time to handle that properly in the show.
But the latter is a problem in the series for sure; too many important things happen off screen and are often solved within one episode. The show isn't allowed to breathe and take things slow.
(Cody being revealed as having been brainwashed is of course bad too but like it or not, he's not one of the main characters of the show. Rex having to deal with a brainwashed Cody could very well be what forces him into retirement.)
Just my two cents.
And why is Echo ALWAYS sidelined in this show?!

hello coda >:] riddle me this. i dont actually have a riddle i just came to ask as a newer petscop enjoyer if u have any fun petscop trivia? i literally just finished watching it a few days ago and i keep thinking abt it..on my mind..smoke the shit that made the pets scop
Hello! Wow welcome to the world of petscop. Sure, I'm not exactly sure what qualifies as trivia but here's a few things you might not know if you're new to things.
Something I find neat: Interestingly the majority of petscop's characters have existed for 10+ years across a variety of different projects. I mostly keep from talking about them because the guy who made these things buries at least one of them on purpose, but care& her immediate family has existed (albeit in a very different story with very different lives) since as early as 2009, while rainer and mike have existed since as early as 2012! ...we don't really know anything about the 2012 iteration of these characters other than it was mentioned but i always find it really fascinating that the majority of the characters are just one iteration of concepts that have shown up a bunch of other times. Paul, lina, and belle all appear to be new characters though! Which is neat.
Relatedly the symbols in the background of even care and that reoccur throughout the game are also old imagery from a former project, nifty (Which is for sure the reason why the nifty function in petscop is called nifty LOL)
Tumblr media
Nifty's a fun little game, extremely old though, it's really surreal to see the pscop tiles showing up in it retroactively. This game actually played a really big part in people finding out who made petscop; its common knowledge now but was purposefully obfuscated until ~episode 22 iirc, i was amidst the group of people who were the first to find out haha, it was the same night that pokemon sword and shield released LOL Chaotic times
Oh also, the song from petscop "explore" also showed up first in nifty! i like this version a lot because it is just grating as fuck. This song is like, 15 years old.
Ummm here's paul leskowitz trying to say pieces of paper
Jeez what else. Oh petscop is made very strangely. It's something like a "digital puppet show", where inputs are recorded and then played back and layered over eachother recursively to create scenes in pretty much every case where multiple characters are on the screen interacting. These inputs are also often reused, which results in a phenomenon where movements across episodes sync up in perfect unison really often, which is thematically powerful, sometimes relevant to the literal story, and other times just really weird. Here's a neat video demonstrating a couple of these. (this is only from the first half of the series so there's a lot missing.) It's a pretty powerful demonstration of how intricate the entire thing is.
That's just a couple neat not-immediately-obvious things that don't really concern actual story or game mechanism stuff , which is kind of what i took you to mean when you said trivia. hoepfully that was what you were thinking of? maybe you learned something : )

Each chapter will chronicle each episode starting at the very beginning. Some things will change and some will remain the same. Longer description in first chapter. Also side Brittana. As well as Quinntana friendship, and Puckleberry bromance.
Didn’t See it Coming (M) - 63 Chapters - Pairings: Rachel/Quinn and Brittany/Santana? - AU HS. After a devastating breakup, Quinn turns to Rachel in need of a friend, and ends up with so much more. - "If, one day, someone asks me how it all started; I'll have to say it was a granola bar that finally did me in." Take Me As I Am Seasons 1 & 2 (T) - 48 chapters - Pairings: Rachel/Quinn, Brittany/Santana and Kurt/Blaine - The incredibly true adventures of Quinn and Rachel, starting from Sectionals Season 1. Take Me As I Am Season 3 (T) - 26 Chapters - Pairings: Rachel/Quinn, Brittany/Santana and Kurt/Blaine - The continued adventures of Quinn & Rachel as the starring couple of Glee. quarantining or how quinn might lose it, once for all. (T) - 8 Chapters - Pairings: Rachel/Quinn - It starts like the worst horror movie ever but instead of being trapped in the basement of a creepy 50-something year old, Quinn finds herself being trapped in Rachel Berry's basement.
Once More From the Top (T) - 22 Chapters - Pairings: Rachel/Quinn, Brittany/Santana and others - Here's what you missed on Glee: McKinley's Glee Club reformed under the direction of Will Schuester. Rachel tried to recruit the Cheerios but that ended up being a total disaster. It's cool though because she heard Finn Hudson sing in the shower and he's actually really good. Also contains, Brittana, Klaine, Tike and Samcedes content, plotlines back at McKinley, and frequent use of Santana POV.
All The Best (T, but I would rate M for descriptive scenes of suicide, eating disorders, rape, etc.) - 80 Chapters - Pairings: Rachel/Quinn and Brittany/Santana - After spending the entire summer away, Quinn is eager to get back to normal and make the best of her junior year. Excited to put everything behind her and start fresh, she struggles to establish a new normal. take these broken wings (M) - 4 Part Series - Pairings: Rachel/Quinn, Brittany/Santana and Kurt/Sam - Begins in Season one and follows Quinn through her life should she have chosen to keep Beth, realize she is gay, and fall in love with Rachel Berry. The main romantic relationship will be Faberry, with a bit of Hevans and Brittana, but apart from Faberry it will be very heavy on friendship and Quinn&Beth oriented.
the state of dreaming (T) - 3 Chapters - Pairings: Rachel/Quinn - Rachel couldn’t help the guilt that bubbled in her chest when she watched Quinn get a prom photo alone. Enough to Believe (T) - 2 Chapters - Pairings: Rachel/Quinn - Years after Shelby ups and disappears from Lima with Beth, a blonde girl shows up on Rachel and Quinn's doorstep, armed with a lot of questions, and very familiar cheekbones.

The Lopez Manifesto (T) - 8 Chapters - Pairings: Rachel/Quinn and Brittany/Santana - santana starts writing a rachel/quinn fanfic for everyone at McKinley. it’s also extremely popular as everyone awaits her weekly updates. (usually based on what the girls are doing that week.) quinn is the last to find out and is… pissed.
my heart’s a leather jacket I am waiting to give to someone sweet (T) - 15 Chapters - Pairings: Brittany/Santana - Brittany is McKinley’s resident broody rebel who doesn’t see much point to high school, and who, completely incidentally, just so happens to be kind of a math genius. Santana is Lima's golden child, the perfect and unapproachable only child of public figure Dr. Lopez. She’s also the high school’s enigma; no one actually knows anything about her aside from the fact that she’s cold, distant, terrifying, aloof, and willing to eviscerate anyone who looks at her the wrong way. Unfortunately for her, Brittany is about to get a crash course in the complete mystery that is Santana Lopez when she is asked—or, more realistically, forced—to be Santana's math tutor.
Dead Girls Don’t Sing (T) - 39 Chapters - Pairings: Brittany/Santana, Rachel/Quinn, Kurt/Blaine and Tina/Mike - S3 AU. Brittany doesn't believe in unicorns anymore, Rachel's dreams are as dead as the world, Santana is no one's hero…and Quinn? Quinn's just trying to breathe. The world as they knew it is gone -now all they can do is survive. Zombie Apocalypse. Faberrittana Friendship. Slow Burn Faberry. Character Death. COMPLETE
Simple Parts (T) - 13 Chapters - Pairings: Rachel/Quinn and Brittany/Santana - That awkward moment when you travel thirty years forward in time and find out you're married to your high school nemesis? Yeah, it totally sucks...except...maybe it doesn't.

Everyone's Gonna Know Now (T) - 8 Chapters (Incomplete) - Pairings: Brittany/Santana - 3/4 in series - When Santana confronted Finn about outing her, his response was, "The whole school already knows." Be Okay (M) - 2 Chapters (Incomplete) - Pairings: Brittany/Santana - “Kurt doesn’t know why he does it. Faberry. Trigger Warnings.
I’m not breaking, I won’t take it (M, read warnings) - 2 Chapters (Incomplete) - Pairings: Rachel/Quinn and minor Quinn/Santana - Santana gets up and starts toward her, “Jesus, what happened to you?” she mumbles, but she's softer than she was moment before. It's obvious that she’s concerned. Quinn chokes down a sob and then admits, “There’s something wrong with me.”“Hey, listen. Whatever it is, you’re going to be fine." Santana is still not getting it, but she’s rubbing soothing little circles on Quinn’s shoulders. There really must be something wrong with her too, because then Quinn is lunging forward and then she’s kissing Santana. Quinn feels her freeze, but then Santana relaxes and she’s kissing her back. or, a study in quinn fabray.
no love like your love (T) - 5 Chapters (Incomplete) - Pairings: Rachel/Quinn, Brittany/Santana and Blaine/Sam - Following the death of her mother, Rachel Berry assumes guardianship of her six-year-old brother, Daniel. we were built to fall apart (then fall back together) (T) - 8 Chapters (Incomplete) - Pairings: Rachel/Quinn and Brittany/Santana - Rachel and Quinn haven't seen each other for seven years and neither thought they'd see the other again. They certainly didn't see themselves starring together in a Broadway musical, as each other's love interests.
A Different Life (E) - 33 Chapters (Incomplete) - Pairings: Brittany/Santana, Finn/Rachel and Kurt/Blaine - Canon!Divergent Brittana. Santana and Brittany move to New York after high school. Everything is going perfectly until Brittany gets a phone call that changes everything. Seven years later, Santana has a daughter and she and Britt haven't seen each other...Canon until 3x16ish. No Louisville, no second senior year.

She'd never noticed it before, but she had a lot of pictures of Rachel." or: a faberry oneshot set between seasons 1 and 2 where Quinn reflects on a series of moments with Rachel that led to where she is now
anything could happen (T) - One-shot - Pairings: Rachel/Quinn - She stared down at the test in her hand. The line was faint, disappearing depending on the angle. It was possible she was just seeing things, but still. She pulled out her cell phone, tears running down her flushed cheeks. It felt like the earth could open up at any second, just swallow her whole. The line rang. Once, twice, she cursed quietly. She sucked in a breath as she heard a click signifying the call had connected."Hello? Rachel?" Her voice cracked. "Quinn. I need your help." A Faberry-centric rewrite of Rachel's season 4 pregnancy scare
Frannie’s View (T) - One-shot - Pairings: Rachel/Quinn - When Frannie was a child she did everything she could to make her father happy. She was a daddy’s girl through and through. She was quiet and never disrespectful. She went to church every Sunday with her mother and father and prayed every night. Frannie had a lot of friends at school and was popular and well liked. She did very well in school though her participation grades were always low. Daddy told her women were supposed to be quiet and always treat their husbands with respect. She was a princess and he was the King. He ruled the house. Frannie absolutely hated the way her father treated her little sister. Frannie desperately tried to change Lucy. She thought if Lucy could be better then their father would be happier, nicer. OR A journey from Frannie's perspective of Lucy/Quinn and Quinn's sexuality and later feelings for Rachel.

American Dragon Timeline
I’ve been trying for a while now to figure out the timeline of this show, because it makes no sense in the order that Disney Channel originally aired the episodes. It also makes no sense in the episode list on Jeff Goode’s website, which he claims to be the proper chronology of events.
I had to come up with a few convoluted headcanons to make this work, but I think I’ve finally pieced together a coherent timeline (note that for a lot of the filler episodes, it doesn’t actually matter that much when they take place, I was just trying to stick as close to Jeff Goode’s chronology as possible.)
September 2004
Old School Training
It’s implied in this episode that Jake got his dragon powers very recently. They don’t say how recently, but given how new the whole thing is to him, I’d say it’s probably only been about a week or two.
Here’s where we come up against our first issue with canon. In The Legend of Dragon Tooth, Jake says he got his dragon powers when he turned 13, and in Shapeshifter, he says he’s a Pisces, which means his birthday would be in late February, or March. There’s no way the timeline makes sense if that’s the case, so my headcanon is that Jake is just like…really bad at astrology, and he somehow confused Pisces with another star sign.
We also have the issue of how far behind he seems to be in school (he’s 14 in early season 2, but still in 7th grade). So, two more headcanons to explain that. Number one, Jake’s birthday is actually sometime in early September, so he missed the cutoff to go to kindergarten when he was 5, and had to wait until he was 6, placing him a year behind (some places don’t allow kids to start kindergarten if they turn 5 after September 1st. I knew a boy in my old youth group who was almost a year older than everyone else in our grade, because he had an October birthday). Number two, at some point in elementary school, Jake was held back a grade. So the first episode takes place shortly after Jake’s 13th birthday, at the beginning of his sixth grade year.
Since Trixie and Spud are supposed to be the same age as him, that would mean they must’ve both been held back at some point as well (that especially makes sense for Spud—anyone who’s purposely failed as many tests as he has would almost definitely have to repeat a grade).
This would also make Rose younger than them. She’s very bright, and she seems like a good student, so it’s unlikely she was ever held back. But we don’t want her to be too much younger than them, so I’ll headcanon that she also has a birthday in early September, making her a year younger than Jake. If that’s the case, she’d be 12 in season one, and 13/14 in season 2.
Adventures in Trollsitting/Fu Dog Takes a Walk
The dogcatcher says that it’s September.
 September/October 2004
Shapeshifter Dragon Breath The Legend of Dragon Tooth The Talented Mr. Long Professor Rotwood’s Thesis Act 4, Scene 15 The Long Weekend Body Guard Duty Dragon Summit
This episode has to take place after Shapeshifter, Dragon Breath, and Professor Rotwood’s Thesis, since the Dragon Council makes references back to Jake’s actions in all of those episodes. It also has to take place before The Halloween Bash, which places it sometime in September or October.
 October 2004
The Halloween Bash
Jeff Goode’s website lists this episode as taking place between Ski Trip and The Hunted, but there’s no way that’s possible, because Ski Trip takes place close to Valentine’s Day, and The Hunted takes place during the Equinox (they don’t specify which Equinox, but it would have to be the one in September; it’s the only way the timeline makes any sense, even with the generous liberties I’m taking with these headcanons). So The Halloween Bash has to take place before Ski Trip. No one in this episode makes any reference to knowing Rose’s identity, so it works out just fine.
 February 2005
The Ski Trip
Valentine’s Day was actually on a Monday in 2005, so presumably this episode takes place the weekend of February 11-13.
 March 2005
The Egg/The Heist
Easter was on March 27 in 2005. This is how I know The Hunted takes place during the Autumnal Equinox; Rose was still in the city during Easter weekend, a week after the Vernal Equinox.
Eye of the Beholder Ring Around the Dragon Jake Takes the Cake
 May 2005
Fu and Tell/Flight of the Unicorn
Flight of the Unicorn takes place on Memorial Day, which was May 30th that year
 May/June (or September) 2005
Keeping Shop
Hong Kong Nights
I know Jeff Goode’s website says this is the last episode of season one, but I absolutely cannot accept any episode besides The Hunted as the season finale, so I’m just gonna recognize that the council has made a decision, but elect to ignore it.
 September 2005
The Hunted
The Autumnal Equinox in 2005 was on September 22
 Late November/Early December 2005
Half Baked
Jake says it’s been three months since Rose left. It couldn’t be exactly three months, because that would place this episode in late December, and school would be out for the holidays. So presumably it’s late November or early December, and Jake is rounding up when he says three months.
The Academy
This one would pretty much have to take place very soon after Half Baked, like within a week or two.
 Late December 2005
Breakout
This episode establishes that 88 and 89 are in the city working as apprentices to the Huntsman, so it has to take place before the Christmas episode, which they also appear in.
Hairy Christmas
January/February 2006
(Most of these don’t actually have to take place in January or February, aside from Dreamscape and Fool’s Gold. The rest could be pretty much any time during Jake’s 7th grade year. I’m just trying to stick to Jeff Goode’s chronology, and keep at least some of the episodes in the order he listed.)
Hero of the Hourglass Bring It On Family Business Something Fishy This Way Comes The Doppelganger Gang Dreamscape Fool's Gold
 February 2006
The Love Cruise
They never explicitly say it’s Valentine’s Day, but the whole concept of the Love Cruise seems like something a school would do for Valentine’s Day. Also adds an extra layer of heartbreak, because it means Jake and Rose’s breakup happened on the one-year anniversary of Jake finding out Rose was Huntsgirl. Ouch. February has not been kind to Jake.
On the other hand, I’d prefer to headcanon that Jake and Rose got to spend the whole summer together before their breakup, going on dream dates every night and not having to set their alarms for school in the morning (can we just let them be happy for a little while? PLEASE?!?!?!?), so maybe the Love Cruise wasn’t on Valentine’s Day, and instead was just some random school event at the beginning of their 8th grade year.
 May 2006
Feeding Frenzy
They spend three days visiting Jake’s family, so it’s either Memorial Day weekend, spring break, or summertime. Most likely Memorial Day or spring break, since Jake says in this episode that he’s been the American Dragon for a year and a half.
 May/June 2006
A Befuddled Mind The Rotwood Files Haley Gone Wild Switcheroo
This one takes place after The Love Cruise, because Jake and Rose’s recent breakup is a minor plot point, so it only takes place at this point if we headcanon Love Cruise taking place in February.
Young At Heart
I know this is supposed to be a later episode, but going by this timeline, Jake would be 15 for most of his 8th grade year, and in this episode Jake, Trixie, and Spud talk about being 14, so it has to take place during 7th grade
Summer between 7th and 8th grade
A Ghost Story
 Late September/Early October 2006
Homecoming
I never went to public school (I was unfortunately homeschooled), but it’s my understanding that middle schools don’t do Homecoming. So my headcanon is that it was actually just a junior high prom or something, but a few students on the planning committee approached Sun Park and begged her to let them model it after the Homecoming dances at their older siblings’ high schools. Sun was delighted by their enthusiasm, so of course she agreed.
Any time during their 8th grade year
Supernatural Tuesday Siren Says Shaggy Frog Nobody's Fu Game On Bite Father, Bite Son Magic Enemy #1
 February 2007
Year of the Jake
Chinese New Year was on February 18th in 2007
 March 2007
Furious Jealousy
Trixie and Spud put together a Daylight Savings themed school event, so this episode takes place either in October of 06 or March of 07. We’ll go with March because it’s closer to the end of the series.
 June 2007
Being Human
Haley and Gramps both say in this episode that Jake is 14, but he would actually be 15 by this point (even if my whole timeline is wrong and he actually is a Pisces, he still would’ve had his 15th birthday already). Presumably the writers just weren’t paying close enough attention to their established timeline, but the in-universe explanation is…sometimes family members forget your age; my best friend keeps saying her youngest sister is 15, when in fact her sister is turning 17 this year. Sometimes you lose track.
 Summer after 8th grade
The Hong Kong Longs
Presumably this episode takes place around July or August, which means Jake and his friends would be almost 16 by this point (and Rose would be almost 15, assuming my headcanon about her being a year younger than them is accurate).

Tumblr media
It was ridiculous you thought whilst sitting in your couch and watching TV. It was ridiculous that you were alone in your “home”, but at the same time you weren’t. You slowly looked around, searching for the little cameras this house was filled with. Even though you couldn’t see them you knew that they were watching, that he was watching you. You were sure that even in the bedroom and in the bathroom were some. You also were sure that he had countless videos of you stripping even before he had kidnapped you given the fact that he had put cameras in your old house as well. And you even know what he did whilst watching them because he had told you one time, telling you that he always watched them whilst jerking off to them. Disgusting pictures started to fill your head, imaging how he held his hard cock in his hand and stroking it whilst watching countless videos of you stripping or showering. You started to shake your head, trying to think about anything, but this. It was unbelievable that someone with a baby face like him was in reality such a devil. But then again you shouldn’t judge a book by it’s cover.
Sadly that had been exactly what you had done, letting yourself get fooled by his bright and innocent grin, allowing him to manipulate you further and further. You had seen him at that time as the only person who you could trust because for some reason your friends and even family had started to distance themselves from you. Rumors had started to appear about you which hadn’t been true, but were enough to make people stay away from you. The only person who had stayed with you had been Shalnark who had always cheered you up and had told you that all the other people were dumb for believing in such rumors and had told you that you only needed him. You hadn’t thought anything when he had said that he was the only one you needed what had proved to be a fatal mistake. Would you have known how much he had meant these words then you wouldn’t have continued to meet up with him. But you hadn’t stopped and so it had been only a question of time until he had drugged you and had taken you far away from your old town. When you had woken up in a room you had never seen before in a house you had never seen before Shalnark had already been waiting for you. When you had demanded from him to tell you what he had done he had told you everything with the bright smile he always had. But this smile that had normally always managed to make you happy had caused you goosebumps this time, his dark words not matching his bright grin. That’s when you had realized how dangerous he really was, but then it had already been too late. There was no way you could ever escape someone who was part of the famous Phantom Troupe.
“Babe! I’m home!” Speaking of the devil. You sighed and turned the TV off, knowing that Shalnark wanted to spent some quality time with you now. Only moments later the blonde appeared in the door frame. “I bought us some takeout food. Your favorite.” He lifted the bags which he was holding in his hands. You raised an eyebrow. “Why is that?” “Can’t a loving boyfriend bring his beloved girlfriend some takeout food?” You cringed when he said the words boy- and girlfriend, not liking how it sounded. “It’s also some kind of reward because you didn’t try anything this time. Not like I wouldn’t have found you, but it’s good to see that you slowly learn to not try to run away from me.” You bit your tongue to hold a snarky reply back. Of course you didn’t try to escape!! Two broken legs and being locked up in your room for a whole week did teach you better!! It had been terrible because Shalnark needed to help you with everything back then!! Even dressing!! You also couldn’t forget his threatening words to make a call which may or may not ruin someone’s life who’s close to you. “Why are you just sitting there? Come here. Let’s eat.” You scoffed, but stood up, walking to sit down as far away as possible from him. “Na-ah! Come here or else you won’t get any food.” He pointed at the seat right beside him. You pressed your lips together, asking yourself what he would do if you wouldn’t do as he said. You came to the conclusion that you didn’t want to find out. With a dark look on your face you sat down next to him. “Ooh! What’s with that expression? Smile for me!” He pinched your cheeks and you had troubles to not slap his hands away. “Can we just eat?!”, you hissed clearly pissed off. “Of course sweetheart! Open your mouth!” You stared at the fork right in front of your mouth. Was he serious? “You know that I’m capable of doing this on my own, right?” Shalnark just gave you his signature smile and replied:”On my way back home I saw a young couple feeding each other. They looked so happy and cute whilst doing it. I want us to look like this too. So please open your mouth.” It took you a moment until you were finally ready to let yourself get treated like a baby. It wasn’t the first time, but embarrassing nevertheless.
“Your favorite series is on TV tonight if I remember right. Let’s watch it together.” Oh no. You had actually planned to enjoy it alone, but of course Shalnark would never miss a chance to spend couple moments with you. Before you could reject his offer, he had already dragged you to the couch. With one swift movement he lifted you up so that you were suddenly placed in his lap. Heat rushed to your cheeks. He had done it so often, but it was uncomfortable for you. Shalnark laughed when he noticed your flustered expression. “You’re too cute, you know that?” You glared shortly at him, but decided to just focus on the episode. That’s at least what you tried. But it proofed to be a challenge to focus with Shalnark being with you. He kept distracting you with pressing kisses against every part of your body he could reach with his lips and cuddling you so tightly that you had the feeling that he would suffocate you. But whenever you told him to stop he just pouted before continuing where he had stopped. So you endured 22 minutes of hell and when the episode was finally finished you didnt even know what exactly had happened there. “Thanks Shalnark! I missed pretty much everything that happened in the episode!”, you said with sarcasm dripping from your voice. “We can watch it later on again if you want to.” Enduring all of this again?! No, you were fine. “Just forget it. I’ll call it a night.” Your plan was it to go upstairs, knowing full well that he would follow you when suddenly the news started playing.
At first you didn’t pay too much attention to it, but that changed the moment your name was suddenly mentioned and your parents appeared on the screen. “Daughter...we don’t know where you are or what happened, but please! We’re sorry for ever believing in these rumors! Come back to us!”, your mother cried out with tears streaming down her face. “(y/n), my little trouble maker. Your mum and I are hoping that you can forgive us for ever doubting you. We’ll always wait for you. Please come back.” You felt tears swelling up in your eyes. The next moment the scene changed to a boy, a good friend of yours. He had a sad expression on his face. “Hey (y/n). I-I don’t even know what to say. I’m so so sorry for not trusting you enough back then. I’m truly a terrible friend. Th-there is actually something that I wanted to tell you, but now it looks like I won’t get the chance. B-but I still want to say it.” He took a deep breath before looking seriously into the camera. “(y/n), I like you a lot. More than just a friend. I lo-“ You knew what he wanted to say, but never got to hear the end of his sentence because the TV was suddenly turned off. “No!!!”, you yelled desperately and turned around to Shalnark who was holding the remote control in his hands. “You said that you wanted to go to bed, didn’t you?”, he asked, trying to change the topic. “Shalnark!!! Turn it on!!!”, you screamed at him, tears streaming down your face. “No. You should forget about them. You only need me.” You stormed towards him and tried to snatch the remote control out of his hand, but he just held it up too high for you to reach. “Give me the fucking remote control!!!” You were just about to kick him in the place where the sun doesn’t shine when he suddenly crushed the remote control in his hand, letting the broken pieces falling to the ground.
For some reason it felt like your heart was being crushed with the remote control. Your knees gave away under you and you started sobbing uncontrollably. He had just ruined the only chance you had to somehow see your family and friends again. He could have at least let you watch this! Your family and friends believed in your innocence! “That’s really too bad. Seems like I’ll have to buy a new one.”, he said casually before turning his gaze from the broken remote control towards you. He sighed. “It was turning out into a such nice evening before this suddenly came.” He stretched his hand out to touch you, but this time you dared to slap it away. “Don’t touch me!! Why did you do this?! You already ensured that I could never escape you!!” You pointed at your leg where he had planted a tracker a while ago. “But you could at least have let me watch this!! My family...and my friends... They believe that I’m innocent!! If I can’t see them in real life anymore you could at least have let me watched it over TV!!” You glared with a hateful gaze at him before standing up again, wiping your tears away and storming away. “I hate you! I’d rather be with Yuro, my old friend, than with you! Why can’t you be him?! He-he even confessed! Live in TV!!”
You didn’t really realize the impact of your words until you suddenly felt Shalnark grabbing you painfully tight by your shoulders. “So you’d rather be with this boy there than with me?” His tone sounded as cheerful as ever, but you were able to hear the dangerous undertone in his voice. Your suspicions were confirmed when he turned you around and you could see his smile which was basically radiating off danger. Now you had messed up, you just knew it. But at this moment you weren’t able to think rationally, your mind being clouded from anger, sadness and disappointment. “You’re not even my real boyfriend!! You forced me and threatened me to harm my family if I wouldn’t obey you!! But I don’t love you and I don’t need you!!” The next moment you were suddenly thrown on the ground, all of the air being knocked out of your lungs. Shalnark was towering over you, his smile looking only the tiniest bit forced. “That’s such a rude thing to say to the man who keeps you safe and loves you. I thought you learned your lesson, but now I’m not too sure anymore. I might have to remind you again that you need my protection in order to survive.” When he said this he slowly grabbed your ankle and tightened his grip around it. You gasped shocked, instantly understanding what he was meaning. “I don’t want to do this again (y/n). A relationship is build on trust and I want you to trust me and I want to trust you, but if you keep rebelling you make it hard for the both of us. And if this is because your family and friends believe in you then I guess another set of nasty rumors about you should do the work. Do you really want this to happen? Do you want your parents and friends to be ashamed of you, ashamed of ever believing in you? Just think about how much shame you’ll bring over them. You don’t want that, do you?” You tensed up, the sinister meaning of his words slowly sinking in. You still remembered the rumors he had back them spread. They had been nothing, but degrading and disgusting and you didn’t want to find out what else he had in his mind.
“N-no...”, you managed to choke out, letting your head hang low. The grip on your ankle loosened up a bit, telling you that Shalnark was satisfied with your answer. “I knew I would make you realize with this. But one last question.” He bent slowly closer to you until his nose brushed against yours. “You didn’t mean that you would prefer to be with this boy, did you?” “No! I-I was just saying things! I didn’t mean that!”, you answered panicked, not wanting him to do anything to your friend. “Are you sure?”, he asked you. You nodded quickly, hoping he would let your answer slide. “That’s good to hear. Would have been too bad if something would happen to him.” He stood up and offered you his hand which you quickly took, not wanting to ruin his mood once more. “I’m glad that you didn’t mean what you said. You know why?” You didn’t want to know, afraid of hearing his answer, but he gave you his answer nevertheless. “Even thinking about you with someone else makes me want to throw up.”

Questions and Answers From Your OC!
From the perspective of your OC (if you want). Do this as many times are you would like to and answer as many as you would like!
I was tagged by the ever so lovely @officalroyalsofpierreland and @trentonsimblr (So sorry that I’m just now getting to this) and I’m going to tag anyone who wants to do it!
I’m very fond of Douxie right now, and he’s still of a box full of questions, so I’ll do him!
1) What is your favorite sport?
I’m not very much into sports actually. If I have the time, I do enjoy going down to the pool and swimming laps.
2) What is your favorite color?
To be quite honest, I’m not sure. I’m very fond of green and light blue for reasons I’m not quite sure I understand, but I do tend to wear black more than anything.
3) What is your favorite movie?
Growing up my favorite movie was The Sleeping Princess (old, but one of my mothers’s favorites) but as of right now... I’m not quite sure to be honest. I think the last movie I watched was at a premiere for work.
4) Taken? Single?
Taken. Very much taken by Ana. You could say that I’m... taken for life?
5) What would be your perfect day?
No work. No filming. No press events. No press tours. A breakfast at the local cafe that I’ve been dying to go to. Take Annie out. Go for a walk together. See a movie. Take her to a fancy restaurant for dinner. Grab some ice cream. Very simple, I feel.
6) Are you a night owl or an early bird?
Oh, how I would love to be a night owl. Unfortunately, my schedule at the moment doesn’t allow for me to be a night owl, so I am an early bird.
7) Do you think you're smart?
Heavens no. I barely managed to graduate high school on time. My mothers think I am, but they’re the ones who had to watch me struggle through nearly 13 years of math class.
10) How do you like to be comforted when you are sad?
Chocolates help. And hugs. Great big hugs never hurt.
11) Where do you want to be in 5 years time?
Standing at the end of the aisle at the very least. At the most? I personally wouldn’t be opposed to some tiny little ones running around.
12) Do you have any regrets?
Not meeting Annie again sooner.
13) Who are/is your best friend(s)?
My dearest friend is Cody. We’ve known each other for ages and talk quite often. Our schedules are often very contradictory so we don’t see each other face to face very often, but we have a very good time when we do.
14) What was your dream last night?
A very good one.
15) Who in your family are you closest to?
My mothers, without question. They’ve seen me through highs and lows and I honestly don’t know what I would do without them.
16) What is one thing people don't know about you?
There’s actually a third tattoo..., it’s just hidden out of sight. It has a very important meaning to me though, which is why I got it.
17) Best present ever given to you?
I’m not sure. Annie did get me a signed copy of my favorite book last Winterfest (Watcher knows how she managed to do that, the author’s been with the Reaper for at least 30 years now), so that’s one of them I’d have to say.
18) What is your favorite food?
Any food made by my Maman. She’s an excellent chef and anytime I’m home for dinner, is completely and utterly worth it.
19) Earliest childhood memory?
My cousin being a complete bully to me.
20) Do you have a crush?
I always have a crush on Annie.
21) If you could live in a different period, which one would it be?
I’m rather content in this time period. The fashion of the 17th century is nice, but I’d rather stay here. Those coats look hot.
22) Any nicknames?
Douxie. Doux’. One of my little cousins once called me Hisi while trying to get my attention and that’s certainly a nickname I am not fond of.
23) Introvert or Extrovert?
A combination really. Some days I’m an introvert, some days I’m an extrovert. It depends on what’s happening.
24) Favourite book?
The End of the Beginning by Sarah Laurite. It’s my favourite book series.
25) Hobby?
Playing guitar, mostly. I haven’t been able to find the time for it, but perhaps one of these days I’ll surprise Ana with a guitar song. Perhaps.
26) Beach or pool?
I haven’t gone to the beach in ages! I’m not a fan of sand, but I do enjoy going down to the pool when I can.
27) First kiss?
Yes. For privacy’s sake, I won’t share who it was, but I was 12? Maybe 11?
28) Favourite subject
Art was always my favorite subject in school. That or theatre classes when I got to high school.
29) Age
26.
30) Full name
Hisirdoux Michael Caspersen.
31) Pets?
One black cat who’s fond of roasted salmon who goes by the name of Archie.
32) Age (if they have one)?
Arch is almost 9 years old!
33) Fave song?
I don’t believe that I have one.
34) Where do you live?
Carrington. For privacy’s sake, I won’t say anything more than that.
35) What/who do you miss?
I do desperately miss my late grandmother. She passed away when I was fairly young and I would have loved the opportunity to spend more time with her.
36) Which school(s) do/did you go to?
On set-school mostly, in conjuction with the Nimben School of the Arts in downtown Bilchester. Growing up I went to Hartford Primary before I was cast.
37) Favorite food?
Still anything made by my Maman, but also Ana’s baked sweets.
38) Tattoo?
Yes. 3. And more planned.
39) Done anything illegal?
Heavens no.
40) Fav TV show?
CABN’s Texelin Street. Haven’t missed an episode yet.
41) Do you know any celebrities?
Yes, my girlfriend. Other than her? Also yes.
42) Dreams/wishes?
To be able to retire from acting and Simwood and not have to worry about life on set or the tabloid magazines for 5 minutes.
43) Are you very competitive?
Only when I’m pushed to be competitive.
44) Greatest gift (could be a physical gift or a spiritual gift)?
Being adopted by my mothers and being able to have such a loving family and girlfriend.
45) Greatest accomplishment?
Getting cast in my first movie, I suppose.
46) If you were stuck on a desert island, who would you be stuck with?
Can I pick two? Annie and Cody. My girlfriend and best friend and my best friend.
47) Zodiac sign
Scorpio
48) Where were you born?
My birth certificate says that I was born at the Exeter General Hospital.
49) Sexuality?
Straight.
50) What color are your eyes?
I’ve been informed by several sources that they are green.
51) What color is your hair?
Black.
52) Do you want/ have kids?
Yes. I would love to have several children one day, hopefully in the near future.
53) when is your birthday?
November 18th.
54) Current mood?
Relaxed. Happy. Nervous. Excited.
55) Do you send goodnight or good morning texts to people?
Depends on who it is.
56) What do you want to be when you grow up/ what is your occupation?
I’m an actor right now. In the future I want to take a step towards the director and producers chairs though.
57) How long do you sleep for?
However long my schedule will allow.
58) How long does it take you to get up in the morning?
Usually right away, but when I have the time... 20 minutes?
59) How long does it take you to get ready?
5 minutes.
60) Meyer Briggs personality type?

Duane Capizzi:
Ooo, starting with a right hook to the jaw!
Let me think about that for a moment: I'm hesitant to give too much away because I'm really hoping we can tell more stories in this world at some point
Which is to say, we tend not to waste anything: if we don't use it when we originally planned, we usually find a way to use something later - and there's usually a "karmic" reason that we waited.
I'll also preface by saying this: I know season 3 was more of a mini-drop and some felt season 4 was rushed. But I wish EVERY season were longer. Season 1: ideally, i wanted the Pilot to be its own event and 10 more episodes after that (but we had to tell the post-Pilot story in 7. At the end of the day, that had its benefits: we got to the Shadowsan turn earlier and I think that's when a lot of viewers realized the ride they were truly in for). Season 2: we initially figured we'd need 5 episodes to have Carmen doing the ACME dance with Chief, and wound up doing it in 3 - mostly because it quickly became clear that Rio needed to be a 2 parter, and the Zack and Ivy backstory a rough 2 parter. So we squeezed 3 episodes worth of plot into 209. It was exhilarating!
So, we had hoped to have more episodes for Season 4 of course. We had a ton of ideas and had to compress things a bit. But honestly in many ways it was for the better. I know we all wanted to live in this world longer, but I think sometimes the flip side is true - when you have big ongoing storylines, it can get frustrating when some things drag out too long. But, we got all the "story" we wanted to tell in Season 4 - we just lost some "incident" if that makes sense. We would have taken longer to get there.
So, all that preface to answer the question: we wanted to do more musical numbers! We had a Bollywood dance sequence in a return to India caper with Paperstar. We wanted to do a famous Elvis suit theft in Las Vegas during an Elvis impersonator convention (Shadowsan's an early elvis guy; Brunt likes the Vegas "jumpsuit" era). We also wanted to do a thread where Gunnar gets captured by ACME so that Julia could interrogate him and he could play mind games with her a la Hannibal Lector and Clarice. CAVEAT TO ALL THIS: these were some ideas that were bouncing around, that may not have seen the light of day if we couldn't get them to work. But they were on our wish list.
re: "other stories" - I could live with these characters for another 32 episodes easily and there have of course been discussions. But alas, that is up to the powers that be. Let's keep fingers crossed - and keep the Carmen love alive online so that someone up there takes note
There is more of course, but those are some things that spring to mind.
Fuel:
Were there any scenes cut for time that were your favorite?
Duane Capizzi:
Not much springs to mind: our directors were amazing at getting everything in the scripts to fit naturally (and in fact, I was the one who was usually suggesting trims to let other things breathe, etc). We were limited to 22 minutes of episode time, NOT counting front and end credits so a little longer than the average show. We have a pretty good idea when the SCRIPT is too long, so the cutting usually happens at script stage before it gets to the board crew so that they don't waste efforts over-boarding material that won't be used.
We had hoped to build out Chase and Carmen teaming up for the first time, meeting at Carmen's hotel lobby etc for more scenes of them together; but had to reduce that to get that all to fit in the VERY packed episode 406. But again, tighter was fine considering. That's one area that leaps to mind. (note that when I say packed, I don't mean that in a bad way: we spend a lot of time pouring over details in editing to make sure everything gets its due).
If I think of anything, I'll circle back at a later point. But the simple answer is that scenes were usually trimmed or compressed at script rather than board or animatic. So nothing comes to mind. I know it's hard to believe, but "shorter is usually better."
except for my answers to fan questions of course
Fuel:
We saw that in s4 episode 6 that Julia's mother(?) is wearing a necklace remarkably similar to the one Julia wears all the time. Is this the same necklace and if so, why was it given to Julia?
Duane Capizzi:
Just when I thought I was detail oriented! Wow! You guys blow me away
I can't take credit for that: it was either the board artist or director who added that. They do slip things in! As I've said before, EVERYONE on the crew really brought their A-game and were as deep thinking and as passionate as I was/am about the show.
It's a nice detail and I would say your interpretation works!
It took me three or four reviews before noticing that the team had slipped in baby Carmen near the play set in Mom's front yard at the end of 408. When I caught it, I was like: bravo!
Fuel:
When they first met, Zack and Ivy said to Carmen that they were the only family they had, do you know what happened to the rest of Zack and Ivy's family?
Duane Capizzi:
I don't. At least, I don't yet until such a time that I might have the opportunity to explore that. It was important to their relationship with Carmen that they be orphans, so they had that common bond (aside from being "thieves who steal from bad guys" - even if it was only gonna be one time for Zack and Ivy).
I know there are writers out there who like to do entire bio's for characters up front but i'm not one of them. It could be a trap in many ways. I like to have a general idea but be open to the demands of the ongoing storyline. You discover things along the way - it's like you're taking a journey with the characters by writing them, and the longer you spend, the better you get to know them (that was not a prepared statement by the way - I just made that up but I'll have to use it again :). So in Z/I's case it wasn't important to the story or Carmen's relationship, we felt. Conversely, we STARTED with Shadowsan's family backstory with 203, but more important to me was that we use it as a platform to explain why he stays with Carmen and crew. He really has no home at that point, so it was relevant to the present ongoing story. Which is what made that especially powerful to me.
Also, there's always a push-pull between telling character back stories while balancing them with ongoing episodic plots. You have to service both. If you just tell back story, then you're writing a biography
Arden:
What was the biggest challenge when designing these characters, especially the pre-existing characters from the series in the 90's?
Duane Capizzi:
This is probably more of a question for Chromosphere, re: challenges. But from my standpoint overseeing that process, the first thing I'll say is that we weren't necessarily trying to be "true" to those characters since we reinvented nearly every one from the ground up. (with the exception of Carmen of course - her trademark red hat/coat weren't going anywhere! But mostly the update with Carmen was in the styling of her "outerwear"
ALTHOUGH: I will admit that I was pushing for Carmen to have shorter hair as Carmen. I thought it would be a cool update. Chromosphere were really passionate about giving her long full hair and I have to see that they were right. The short tomboy cut worked so well for Black Sheep anyway. We had a different hair style for each of her ages.
So about the reinventions: Gunnar is in spirit a similar character to the original (old colleague in Vile and an early mentor if I remember), but his presentation completely different. We weren't trying to be "in canon" with the original. The beauty of CSD is that every incarnation has been its own entity so that freed us to reimagine the characters. THE CLEANERS, for instance: gimme some Cleaner love! There were a pair of janitors from the original game named RICK AND NICK ICK. They were literally janitors, it was too silly for our purposes. But, it's one small step to make them "Cleaners" (in the sinister hit men sense) - and lo, our reinvention.
So to summarize the answer to your question, they weren't really challenges to me so much as FUN to creatively reinvent the original characters (many of which were from the game, so not really "characters" per se with dialogue and inner lives). Whenever we could, we tried to use character names from the originals and update their looks and personalities. Where we couldn't find an equivalent for what we needed, we created characters from whole cloth. For instance, it seemed a miss to do a heist show without a tunnel guy and a high rise climber guy. Hence, LC & ET, everyone's favorite taco truck vendors!
(yes, i've seen some short hair carmen fan art on Twitter - someone did a great one recently!)
Arden:
Are there plans to give us more of the characters in, say, novel/graphic novel form?
Duane Capizzi:
I know HMH has done a bunch and no doubt have more in works. There's currently a novelization of the Pilot with some additional material if anyone's interested. I consulted on the second one, Clue for Clue, because it falls in the timeline while Chase was still Interpol/pre-Acme so was tricky.
And depending on whether another series in this canon makes it to air, I may just approach them about writing one or two myself to get some "further adventures" our there. Anything is possible!
Arden:
If you could go back and change anything about the series, what would it be?
Duane Capizzi:
File under anecdote, but there was what I felt was an important expression on Gray that kept me awake at nights, from his graduation ceremony at Vile. When we revisited those flashbacks in the Gray arc in Season 4, I had them change his expression there (to be more evil less innocent). We had it corrected in 404 so was able to get permission to have Netflix "fix" the Pilot by adding that shot in. I am tenacious!
We really poured over everything, it's the series that I have virtually zero complaints with the end product to be honest. But the simple answer is: I would have gone back to 106 and "un-greek'd" Gray's nametag. It's sort of a rule for international that we scramble signage (which is weird for a show that takes place in many countries/languages, I know I know). It's mostly for localization/translation reasons. And I'm sure there are some countries where Gray's name might be spoken differently. But as a proper name, I think we could have made an exception and seen "Gray" on his name tag. See? Details! But that's about the worst of it
there's also like one small line from Chief in 208 where she indicates she knows Carmen is a good guy (something to that effect) which I felt was too absolute and would have tweaked the line to temper it a bit. It's tiny, but looking back it sort of bugs me and I kick myself for not catching it. But this is absolutely the series I wanted and couldn't be happier.
Carmen:
How did Carmen know she could trust Julia? As far as we know, she has not seen or heard Julia defending her, and in the Fashionista Caper, Julia even held up her gas gun to her, saying she was under arrest. Do you have any opinions on this? Was it just intuition?
Duane Capizzi:
I'm gonna go with intuition
Carmen was raised on an island with some hardened criminal types. I think she's a pretty good judge of character. Poor Julia, trying to be tough with Carmen didn't suit her.
But, great observation! I'd have to mentally step through everything to see if Carmen had any earlier indication but i think you're right there.
Yes, sometimes you just gotta follow your heart
Carmen:
Are there any characters that didn't actually interact that you think would get along well?
Duane Capizzi:
Amazing question! First, I'd have to think more about who DIDN'T meet - you're asking the hard questions haha. But "get along well" is very specific! Hmmm, care to volley anyone?
I'll also add that so many smaller moments get lost in the "binge" of it all, but I am surprised how few fans have noted the first meeting between Player and Julia. THAT was a good one IMO! Very sweet!
Before getting back to your question, I also want to add that we were originally going to find a way for Carmen to lose her earring in Stockholm so that Julia could pick it up and be communicating with Player. BUT, I cut it at treatment stage because I knew we didn't have room in that episode to service it. Circling back to questions 1 & 2, another case where it turned out better saved for later IMO (saving Player meeting Julia, not to mention the earring business in 402 with Ivy).
Oh of course, Julia and any of the other Vile members. It would have been Gunnar for my vote, as mentioned earlier. We probably would not have had Julia meet anyone else and mixed it up more. I like that Cleo sort of became J's personal nemesis.
YES, SONIA & XIFENG (and LUPE PELIGRO, if I can add). The intent was (and is, if we ever get to revisit) to see them again in Carmen's travels. We started to expand Carmen's world but when we finally learned the finite number of episodes we had to finish the story, we drilled back down into the essentials. Would love to see them some day!
I'm hesitant to share too many things I have in mind in this forum for hope that they will see the light of day one day. You know, "spoilers"
Julia:
Do you have any opinions on Zari? Just in general? Some thoughts on her backstory would be nice if possible
Duane Capizzi:
I love Zari! I really don't have any back story on her at this point. She was originally just "Agent B" but when the need arose to give story points to another agent, we chose her because she looked so awesome! And Sharon Muthu gave voice to her so wonderfully.
I love when we finally teamed her with Chase. Hopefully the anticipation was that she would give him a hard time. I love that we defied expectation (organically, of course) and had her respect him by the end of that episode (for believing that he foiled Carmen!)
Julia:
Do you have any thoughts on small facts about any character, major or minor, that you think are fun/interesting to think about, but don't necessarily add to the plot itself?
Duane Capizzi:
Bellum, like myself, likes cats. But you knew that!
I try to put everything pertinent on screen, doing double duty to service any given episode's story but also the overarching story. That "journey" thing I mentioned earlier - we had no idea Chase falling on his own car would be a thing when I first came up with it. But as other characters refer to the incident, it took on a life of its own and made the characters feel more real.
Sorta kinda related to this question and some earlier ones, I will say that I DO think there's more to learn about Shadowsan's past vis a vis Lady Dokuso: it's clear to me that they have a history together, and it's something I hope to explore someday soon (maybe in a book if not another series
Julia:
Are the Carmen Sandiego books a part of canon?
Duane Capizzi:
I only consulted on the first two or three (too busy with series!) and have not read them, so hard for me to answer in a definite way. They are definitely in the universe we've created, but not in the timeline that I know of (which would have been too hard to pull off with our script development running concurrently). But do know that the book team at HMH pays close attention to the series and world so they should be perfectly compatible. Look no further to their clever social media on the series for example.
Kenz:
We saw in season 4 that Julia and Carmen helped each other mid to long term; would there ever be a possibility that Julia would permanently or semi-permanently join team Red?
Duane Capizzi:
Of course there's a possibility. But in a sense, with ACME now finally on Carmen's side, in a sense if Carmen were back in the game Julia, Chase, Zack and Ivy would ALL be an extension of Carmen's crew. But, would J remain with ACME or literally come to Carmen's team at her HQ? As they said in an old radio show: "Only The Duane Capizzi knows ..."
Kenz:
Where do you see Carmen in her retirement (if she retires)? Do you think she would still travel the world or settle down somewhere? Similarly, do you have any thoughts on what some other characters could be doing years down the line?
Duane Capizzi:
That is a big question, and one difficult to answer without some potential future spoilers (and yes, I really want to tell more Carmen stories if you can't tell But I'll answer by giving you one "read" on our open-ended ending as seen in 408 (read no further if you haven't seen it - yeah, right haha). The ending suggests to me that Carmen settled down for a spell to forge that relationship with her mother, to make up for lost time. But, if that is indeed Carmen that we see on the rooftop, I think the ending suggests that Carmen doesn't stay still for very long. If Vile is back, there is work to be done! Carmen has a life mission - she's one determined lady.
But of course, it's deliberately ambiguous: "anyone with your heart, wisdom and courage can be Carmen Sandiego." Is it Carmen? Sonia? Someone we haven't met? I think both endings resonate: Caroline and I always said "Carmen is bigger than a person, Carmen is a movement" would be a great message to end the series on. And I think our ending resolves this chapter of Carmen's journey as a person, but also elevates her to mythic status. Which is why I love it!
And, that seems to me a pretty perfect question and answer to end our chat on. Thanks everyone! Again, I cannot tell you how moved I am to see that we have such a passionate, intelligent and talented fan base. THANK YOU.
Take care guys, thanks again for having me! 'night!

☕️+ 22 episode seasons vs 13 episode seasons
Anonymous asked: ☕️ the shift from 22 episode seasons to 8 or 10 episode seasons
I'm a 22 episode seasons person ALL THE WAY.
I admit, sometimes, shorter seasons are convenient (otherwise, I wouldn't have been able to bingewatch Warrior Nun AND Teenage Bounty Hunters AND The Sex Lives of College Girls in the past two weeks or so lol). There are some shows that don't *need* their seasons to be 22 episodes long; mainly shows that work well as limited series and are designed as such (HBO's Watchmen comes to mind rn).
I wouldn't have complained if say, Killjoys had longer seasons, but I also never felt it hurt for it or that I was missing something. Ditto with Black Sails. Comedies are also more flexible: I don't feel What We Do in the Shadows is missing anything either, for example. Also, as we know, the British do it differently xD, but it's usually fine because the episodes are longer and they know how to work it LOL (Downton Abbey doesn't need any more episodes, IMO).
But for all of those there's at least one other that would clearly benefit of the breathing room a longer season would allow them. Long arcs that build up over a season, sometimes multiple ones? Silly filler episodes that show you new facets of the characters you wouldn't have seen before? More room to experiment with ~quirky techniques or devices, like "AU" episodes or episodes from the POV of a secondary character?
None of that is happening, at least not as well as it used to, in 8 episode seasons ffs. And I miss it, SO much, in current tv. Especially current, because I just get a different ~feeling with shorter old shows: those feel like they were written mindful of exactly how many episodes they had, caring about providing what a 22 episodes long season did in a shorter period, in their own way. Now you get 13/10/8 episodes that are out at once, bingewatched by people in one or two days, talked about for a couple of weeks, and forgotten again that are nothing more than plot moments badly sewed together.
There's a reason why on the past year or so I've enjoyed watching old school shows. Either ones I watched partially/occassionally but never finished (like The Mentalist, Scandal, or even Supernatural), or new ones (like Desperate Housewives or The Blacklist) -even if they give me this specific kind of anxiety where I dread finishing them and running out of content because omg I need more long shows in my life!! xDD.
And the reason why is because I love all of that I mentioned above, all that the 22 episodes seasons can give you like nobody else can! I love the long slow build to plot reveals that this format allows. I love the quirky episodes; sometimes I don't love the individual quirky episode or where it's placed lol, but I love that they exist! I love when writers and directors get to play around a little! I especially love these things in my high-stakes shows, BECAUSE I like that they're high stakes, but the high stakes don't feel as important if I don't get to see the rest, iykwim? You need to know what the character is missing out on. You need to feel that tragedy and that unfairness on your bones. And 22 episodes is the perfect amount to really crush you with all of that.

top 5 fav moments of olivia
disclaimer, it’s been about 10 years since i have watched any non-alex episodes, with the exception of maybe season 1, so i’m probably going to leave out some moments from those seasons that would otherwise be included, because my memory is no where near that good. so, off the top of my head!
1) that scene in “futility” 4x22 towards the end where she asks a victim to waive her right to privacy so her rape crisis counselor can disclose the consents of their conversation, in order to put a perp away. “i’m not going to pretend that this is a good thing or that this is a fair thing, but i have to ask you for your help because you are our last chance.” the dialogue in this scene is beautifully written, olivia shows a lot of humility and deals with the moral dilemma she is faced with with a lot of tact and compassion, imo. she doesn’t pretend that she is doing this so that the victim can “heal” or so that she can achieve “closure” or whatever, and she clearly agonizes over the decision, something i miss a lot about early seasons olivia. there is also a v touching scene between olivia and elliot later where this really shines through, and that shows perfectly why they were such great partners
2) her informal therapy session with huang at the end of “inheritance” 3x8 where she discusses her biological father and pours out her soul, to heart breaking effect. “you’re proof that we do have a choice” “or maybe i’m just lucky” NO BABY YOU ARE PROOF. i think what upsets me most when it comes to olivia is that she walks around shouldering a burden that she doesn't have to. she’s so afraid of what she could turn into and it breaks my heart thinking about the things she grew up hearing about herself. the chemistry between olivia and huang is A+ and makes me wish they had had more scenes like that
3) can i include the entirety of her screentime in “competence” 3x22 as a moment? if not, the part where they’re in the central park zoo and she kneels down in front of katie, the 22 year old rape victim with down syndrome, and promises her that no matter what she had been threatened with, she, olivia, would make certain nothing would happen to her momma if katie told her the truth. it just always gets me (and i also hc that it was the moment that alex realised she was in love with her hehe). apart from “guilt”, this may be my second favourite episode in the series, i love it so so much
4) that part in “asunder” 2x7 where she says “because you can do her without leaving a mark, can’t you, sergeant?” to that police officer who has been accused of raping his wife. look, any time olivia throws your words back in your face, you know you’re fucked. plain and simple
5) i really, really love the episode “consent” 2x10 and the interaction between olivia and kelly throughout was very touching, in particular that final scene where she meets with kelly and tells her the verdict. having your drink spiked and waking up not remembering a thing is terrifying and olivia was absolutely the person who she needed in this situation. when she reassures her that she did the right thing, even though verdict wasn’t quite what they wanted. also the beret type hat she is wearing in it makes me swoon
i know you said 5 but 6) i’d be remiss if i didn’t include at least one instance of her using the word “bitch” so. it’s the “i want your balls in a blender, but ain’t life a bitch?” for me, and the fact that she is right up in this dude’s face when he is clearly not used to women ever talking back to him. so good, i want it on a t-shirt

Pinky and the Brain: A Pinky And the Brain Christmas Review or I Just Think Schotzie’s Neat
Tumblr media
Christmas Continues on this blog... and getting away from one set of Christmas commissions and into another, I offered my friend Blahdiddy three commissions as a present. The other two we’ll get to eventually, but with Animaniacs on the brain, heh, due to the reboot, he selected two Pinky and the Brains and one Animaniacs for me to cover. And while I intended to cover this one sometime this month anyway, my friend’s recent and sad covid diagnosis meant i’m bumping this one all the way up to the front of the line so he has some christmas cheer during this rough time. So with that in mind let’s talk about pinky, pinky and the brain brain brain brain brain shall we? Of course we can’t really talk about pinky and the brain without talking about Animaniacs. I absolutely love the series, I grew up with it as a kid and reconnected with it as an adult when it ended up on netflix. It was smart, well animated and most importantly really fucking funny. I highly recommend checking both the original and reboot of it out some time if you have Hulu. Speaking of the reboot while I might go on in full about it at some point it’s pretty good, with some creatvie jokes, some nice updates, with Rita Anita Anrita being a great new addition to the warner side of things. It’s only real flaw is it gets a bit reptitious as for the most part there’s only really the warners and pinky and the brain with a few exceptions one of which DAMN well deserved at least two segments and we all know which one that is.
Tumblr media
Bring.. this.. to series. The warners and pinky and the brain segments weren’t bad, but as is inevitible in a screwball comedy some just weren’t as good as others and those fell harder when you’ve already seen 2 or 3 better versions of this sort of skit in the season. They did really find their groove towards the end and if you like both Animaniacs and Pinky and the Brain, or even just one or the other, it’s worth checking out.  But enough about the reboot let’s talk about those labratory mice whose genes have been spliced. Thanks to wikipedia, I now know the duo were based on Eddie Fitzgerald and Tom Minton, who worked with Tom Rutgeter on Tiny Toon adventures, with menton being the one who came up with Narf, even saying it in one episode of Tiny Tunes. During the creation of animaniacs, Bruce Timm, yes THE Bruce Timm, sketched the two, and Ruetger added mouse ears and the rest was history. Maurice LaMarche was the one who added the Orson Welles to the character, as LaMarche saw the Orson Welles in Brain, ran with it and got the part and a long and storied career in voice acting as a result. In a nice and fitting bit of contrast, Rob Paulsen got the part.. because he was already on the show. Not to downplay Paulsen’s clear talent, I just find it hilarious.
That’s about what I could dig up on the behind the scenes of the show. From what I can tell it was greenlit because Animaniacs was a massive it, and Pinky and the Brain was the most popular segment, so it just made sense. The show would likewise be a massive sucess with both adults and kids, and go on for three seasons and what should legally be considered a war crime.
Tumblr media
For those of you blissfully unaware yeah, that happened, no no one people actually LIKED from Tiny Toons was in it. And yeah if you want me to talk about it commission it otherwise not going near this one. While I do need to tackle more bad animation... I’ve successfully avoided watching an episode of this show for 22 years next wedsday, I’m not breaking the streak for free.
But some.. things aside I remembered liking the series as a kid but just never got around to seeking it out as an adult. I had nothing against the animaniacs segments and I even still have a stuffed brain doll I got at a garage sale.. the pinky is sadly missing and persumed dead. I just wasn’t as bit into it as I was the slappy bits rewatching animaniacs and didin’t really see reason to watch the show. Watching this though made me realize I was wrong and I probably watch more of it in the future This special is damn good, i’m pleased ot review it and to revive and old childhood memory. So with all the exposition out of the way let’s talk Pinky, PInky and the brain brain brain brain christmas edition after the cut.
This was indeed a special: while it was presumably produced with season one of the show and is packaged with it both on DVD and on Hulu, where I watched it, the special was aired in prime time and even put on it’s own VHS.. which I found out and of course, like with my review of the Darkwing Duck Pilot, had to use as the art for old VHS’ tapes for cartoons.. was really fucking beautiful and it’s a nice break from my traditional screencaps.   So we open with a clever Christmas rendition of the theme, frequently sprinkling in bits of other christmas stuff, utterly fantastic. The intro animation is less impressive as it’s literally just the regular intro but with a stock snow effect over everything. In case you thought Ducktales doing that was a new thing. I do not blame the team however, as apparently they only had a week to get the scripts out, so I highly doubt warner was forking out more cash for the animation than they had to. They still forked out enough to make it LOOK really good mind you, something I wish they’d do more often with their DTV Movies but do do with their animated shows still with certain exceptions so good on them, i’m just saying they clearly cared more about money than having a memorable christmas opening. Given a budget to actually make one, i’m sure the animators would’ve come up with something lovely, and i’m sure the same is true of Ducktales and other shows and like i’ve said, i’m highly in favor of shows actuallly doing unique openings for the holidays, especially since Holiday episodes tend to get reaired every year as long as the show is in circulation on the network. Sometimes even if it isn’t. So it’s fully worth the effort to fork out a little extra for this as while you’ll most likely only use it once, you’ll be using the special for years. You can afford to treat yourself networks come on. It’s...
Tumblr media
Just like Pinky, Elmyra and the Brain. But onto the episode itself after 80 years. We find Pinky writing his Christmas list to santa, complete with Narf, a gag I like. As usual for a comedy show, I will try to gloss over as much of the gags as possible, to avoid repetttion but yeah this episode is really damn funny and reminded me just how good these characters are. Maurice and Rob just have perfect chemistry. It’s like Tom and Jerry: It’s a very simple premise, that one being “Cat chases mouse and Mouse beats shit out of mouse”, and pinky and the brain of course being “Super genuis mouse and dimwitted but loveable sidekick try and takeover the world eveyr night”. But a simple premise can be used just about anywhere and adapated for anything. To me a cartoon’s premise only has to be as complicated as it needs to be to work. Sometimes you have a vast complex tapestry behind the world like She Ra, Steven Universe or Avatar with lots of planning and ins and outs and deep character stuff.. and sometimes you just have two mice who get into shenanigans because one is a would be dictator who sounds like orson welles and the other’s a loveable british weirdo/moron. Sometimes simple just works.
Anyways, Brain, noticing Pinky’s distracted and replaces himself with a horrifying poorly made doll of himself called Noodle Noggin, which is both an excellent name and not the only time they’d use the name either, as there was an animaniacs short about Brain making himself a fad to endear himself to the children of the future with the same name. It’s just an inherently funny set of words, but also shows Brain’s genius in a subtle and clever way as he never spells it out, but despite sounding kind of ridiculous for such a buttoned up intellectual like brain... he knows that’s the kind of name kids will eat up. His schemes may often fail, but he’s an objectively brilliant schemer and i’ts often either PInky’s incompetence or his own miscalculation of humanity, either over or underestimating them, that undoes Brain.  Back to the plot, so Brain’s plan is to distribute noodle noggins around the world, make it the hot new toy, and as always, take over the world. Problem is naturally two Mice simply don’t have the resources to make the billions of dolls. But PInky stumbles upon the solution in the paper: a want ad for elves! Everything about that sentence except “pinky stumbles upon the solution” has not aged paticuarlly well, but point is they have a plan and we have our christmas special.  This does bring me to my one problem with the special.. Brain’s weird inconsistency towards Santa. What I mean is he spends the portion doubting Santa can do anything he’s claimed to despite being proven frequently he can. That part is not all that annoying as it’s in character with him and while yes, he is a talking mouse, he’s also a man of science and reason and Santa is the opposite of that. That would be fine... IF it wasn’t for the fact that said magical bollocks weren’t constantly part of his plans. Despite Brain constantly throughought the special doubting Santa... his plans FREQUENTLY rely on everything we’ve heard about him being right. His initial plan here ENTIRELY runs on the fact Santa has a massive workforce to make the toys yet even if that’s true by Brain’s own logic, he wouldn’t be able to deliver them. Later when the boys need to escape, They hide with the Reindeer despite Brain just saying santa can’t be everywhere in one night.. which if he can’t then the odds are slim he’ll wind up at Acme Labs isn’t it? It would be fine if the special acknowledged any of this outside of one bit we’ll get to, but other than that one bit.. they don’t. IT’s just really frustrating and really sticks out since the rest of the special is perfection, so this one failing bit really grates. That being said, it dosen’t last long enough to really drag the episode down as a whole, just to annoy me a bit every so often. It speaks to the episodes quality that the bad part ONLY drags so much because everything else is so well put together.  So our boys head to the north pole with the help of a kooky pilot and a santa dummy, this pilot is voiced by Tress MacNeile and is easily one of the best parts of the special. And naturally given their luck, she asks them to take the wheel so the plane instead jerks and causes them to fall out. Luckily they end up near Santa’s workshop and soon apply for temp work with local head of things and gruff type Shotzie, played by Jeff Bennett. And yes that is his name.  I like Shotzie: he’s a goateed elf and Bennett just plays him well.. hard to explain honestly I may just like his name and Bennett’s voice for him, one he used before in animanaics for various bit parts and in shows after this, it’s just a voice i’ve always liked.
Tumblr media
They get put to work in the mail room, which is the bit I mentioned: Brain earlier scoffed at Santa answering all the letters with Pinky simply suggesting that Santa had his elves go through all of them. Turns out Pinky was right... while he may be a BIT stupid, one intresting thing i’ve found about Pinky after watching the reboot that ironically the friend who comissioned this and I discussed is that he’s not ENTIRELY stupid, it’s just , much like Dan from Dan Vs his knowledge is just random.. he can not know how a lot of things work, but sometimes like in this instance Pinky generally just GETS something. It’s part of why he and Brain are such a good team despite their failures: Brain is all about planning and thought and research, Pinky is about intuition and gut instinct. He just does things and it often works out. This also makes their recently added backstories all the more brilliant as they explain this well: Pinky started life just being told to find the diffrence in cheeses and thus was taught form childhood to trust in himself and his weird brain. Brain was cruelly torturued with an experiment on learned behaviors via electroshock, and was taught to never give up control again, to always know what’s going on and to always control it. It perfectly sums up who the two are and why they are that way.  Brain however quickly pivots, as the mail room ends up being the perfect location to start his plans. Since their job is to file away what each person wants Brain simply adds Noodle Noggin to it and plans to put his plans into the workshop. While Santa and Schotzie are suprised and baffled, Santa quickly adds it to the list. However things hit a snag when Schotzie gets supscious when the two try to sneak into the blueprint room to drop theirs off and he accidently yanks off their disguises leading to a REALLY fun chase scene, as the boys end up in a toy wherehouse and thus try out various toy cars: a barbie dream car that dosen’t have a working motor, a toy truck that dosen’t go very fast, and finally an rc car that while fast naturally just means Schotzie can grab it and capture them. It’s easily my faviorite scene of the episode just for how clever it is and as someone whow as a kid around the time this came out, I applaud the accuracy.. granted I didn’t have any of those personally but I had lots of friends so yeah.
So our heroes are interrogated.. and again Brain brilliantly pivots. Schotzie assumes since they have the blueprints their spies for the easter bunny or the tooth fairy or Herschel, the Hanukah Goblin. Why Herschel never got his own Hannukah special trying to stop Pinky and the Brain from using it to take over the world, I genuinely do not know and that’s something the reboot really needs to adress in the future. Seriously Hannukah needs a mascot and it’s either Herschel or the Hannukah Zombie. Kwanza already has Kwanzabot. I want to see more of Herschel the Hannukah Goblin dammit!. I love goblins. Especially this one.
Tumblr media
And this one
Tumblr media
And most of all this one
Tumblr media
I likes goblins. It’s a thing. So anyway, point is Schotize has the blueprints taken in while our boys slip out and sucessfully make their way outside, though they have to find a way home to turn on the mind control device. They see Santa and brain being a dick refuses to let pinky hand in his letter.. but does as mentioned earlier have them pose as reindeer.  So our heroes make their way home and in time to be able to activate the device once santa’s route’s finished!
Tumblr media
And.. then land directly on the mind control device thing, meaning they now have to scramble to repair it. Oh and Pinky is inconsolable after realizing Santa didn’t get his letter and Brain is a HUGE dick about it. Easily the worst i’ve seen him just far more focused on his machine than his friend’s wel lbeing especially since ALL he needs from pinky is for him to throw one lousy switch.
Tumblr media
But we then get easily the best part of the entire special. As Brain scrambles to rebuild his device while abusing his best friend we get a really nice tense sequence as Brain rebuilds while kids all over the world warmly receive noodle noggin. I mean.. it’s not the creepiest doll I’ve seen a kid enjoy.
Tumblr media
Also Bill Clinton gets one because the series apparently really likes “Bill Clinton is stupid jokes” Oh you poor innocent dears who haven’t had to suffer through the president being revealed to be a sexual predator, the one after him being even dumber if not a predator, the one after that being easily one of the best people around, and the outgoing one being a waking nightmare whose both a preadator and dumb beyond all comprehension ina dangerous and soul crushing way.
But yeah onto the good part, Brain, for whatever reason, reads the letter.. and finds Pinky asked for nothing. He just wanted to give Brain the world at long last, recognizing his friend really and genuinely means well for it and that he’s worked hard to conquer it. And with that goal in reach, with the very thing he’s always wanted his... Brain instead uses the device to wish a merry christmas. He sees through his friend’s kindess and selflessness that he himself.. has been selfish once again turning something into a world destroying plot and being cruel to his best friend... when all his best friend wanted was to selflessly make sure he finally got what he wanted. It’s then that Brain, for all his cold and cynical logic and superiority complex, realized the true meaning of christmas, which i’ve said before and i’ll say again: it’s about giving, about giving someone something with your heart and soul just to be nice with no expectation of something in return. It’s about being selfless for once instead of selfish. I’ts about love. And Brain loves his friend too much to destroy his faviorite holiday. For once the world can wait.. and for once they all join in saying merry christmas to one another and in love and camradire. And I know not everyone celebrates christmas, there are other winter holidays and not everyone in the world would willingly do this. I know all that.. but the special has such a well meaning message, I really can’t be mad at that or get into the weeds too much> This isn’t some jackass making an entire movie, of which there have been several, saying “There’s a war on christmas” which instead equates to them just bitching about not everyone celebrating HIS holiday. It’s about a mouse for one moment truly being selfless and putting ihs loyal and faithful friend over his greatest want to give him a nice christmas and to do something nice for the world instead of trying to take it. And that.. that’s really damn heartmelting.  So we end on the two exchanging presents, with it being a little extra heartwarming as Brain likely already got Pinky something meaning even before his big revelation, he really does care beneath all the dope slaps. Pinky got him a keychain of the world and rather than be frustrated like you’d think.. Brain just takes it in stride. It is christmas after all.. the world.. it can wait. For now it’s just the two of them having one moment in time, this merry christmas.  Final Thoughts: If it wasn’t obvious, I loved this freaking special. It’s funny, clever and has one hell of an ending. There isn’t much more to say other than go watch it if you have Hulu.. you will not regret it and a sepcial thanks to Blah for comissioning this. it was an amazing time and is now a competitor for a spot on my best christmas special list. For now though it’s just really good and I say go check it out. Merry christmas, happy holidays and later days.

I caught up on the Fruits Basket Anime. Now please understand that I was obsessively buying the books as they came out when I was in high school (and reading online when things weren't caught up). It's the only Manga series where I own the full series in book form, and the only set of Manga I brought with me when I moved. I reread the series in 2019 a couple months before the anime came out. I have read this series many dozens of times. Tohru is still one of my favorite characters ever.
And I just have a few thoughts.
1. The new Anime is MILES ABOVE THE OLD ONE!
2. For the most part, if I disliked a change between Manga and anime, it was probably because there was a particular line I missed.
3. I think everything they added and changed to Ritsu's episode just made everything about that character better. I really feel like Ritsu and Mitsuru make sense from the hints we get. Mi-chan accepts Ritsu and wants to be friends and gets along with Ritsu so easily. This is one of the best changes in the show.
4. Uotani telling her back story always makes me cry. I always cry when she talks about the lights going out in the apartment window. I feel like the anime didn't follow through with that scene quite as much as I wished, but the anime showed how Kyoko and Tohru's apartment became a home for her. So when I cried at that scene in the anime, it was less because of Uo basically begging for Kyoko to come back, and instead because that very home was entirely broken and gone.
5. I've known Akito is awful for years, but man oh man, I like forgot just how bad it got! I love the character. I think Akito is super fascinating and I love her whole plotline. But she's vicious and brutal in the worst way. I know from the Manga that 1) her abuse is something awful, since Ren basically twists her all up and the people who could stop her (like the older servants) give her everything rather than treat her like the child she is, and 2) the series goes out of its way to show how none of the characters actually have to forgive her, that it's all about choices.
6. The anime really hammers home how awful Shigure is, starting early. I appreciate it.
7. Hearing Shigiraki and All Might argue because Shigiraki thinks his big brother All Might is too flighty is just so weird to me!
8. You can totally tell how much better of a VA Laura Bailey has become. I never liked her work in the original because it just sounded like Keiko from yyh too much. But now she sounds the way Tohru should sound..
9. It's very obvious how much Tohru and Kyo are flirting super early on because of the actual voice acting itself. So good!
10. Understanding that I watched 8 hours of FB yesterday and 12 hours today to watch the whole series, and was pretty much done by the time the last 5 episodes were playing, but I thought the pacing on the second seasom felt odd. This is a series I've read a lot, but season 2 seemed to drag in places, though I'm willing to say that may just be because I overloaded on it.
11. Kureno was such a non-entity to me in the manga but they did such a good job making me care about him. Despite the little amount of time Uo and Kureno spent together, their interest is clear. Also, she will be 18 by the time they actually get together. Also, also, I like age gap pairings where the younger one is actually the one with more experience.
12. In the manga, Mayu and Hatori are one of my favorite pairings. I loved them so much that even though I had created an OC to ship with him, I basically broke them up in my head because I couldn't stand Hatori not being with Mayu. I adored them so much and was so excited to see their episode. But then I saw it and it just felt... weird. Like their affection is more obvious when they talk about each other when they aren't in the room. I hate that this didn't work for me because I love them.
13. I never liked Kana, but I am actually more sympathetic to her now, especially seeing how wrecked she was when Mayu visited.
14. I really, really don't like Momiji's dad. The man is so selfish! At least with Momiji's mother, it's likely she had severe post partum depression. I didn't realize she'd tried to kill herselfm removing her memories was probably the only way to help her live. That being said, I like to imagine that Momiji's mother finds out what her husband allowed to happen (isolating Momiji and taking what he loved from him so the man could pretend to have the perfect family), that she divorces him, takes Momo away and tries to mend her relationship with Momiji.
15. I just love Tohru! I adore her so much.
16. The way the colored certain things different (or different than I imagined) is super weird to my brain!
17. While I was expecting some of the visual gags from the original anime, and from time to time miss some of them, I think not including them was for the best.
18. The part of Momiji's eye that should be the pupil is green and that's weird to me.
19. I found Momiji in the old anime very annoying to the point that I started to not like him in the manga. But I love him here so much. But I miss Momiji's song from the bathhouse episode. Also, the german accent is great!
20. They really gave Haru so much personality and I love it!
21. Seeing Yuki really loosen up is wonderful.
22. MACHI!!
23. I am very, very excited to get to see the end. It makes me so happy to know that a whole new generation of people are getting to see what an amazing series this is. It deserves all the love and the anime has been so beautiful! I am so grateful!

Pietro, no Fietro could still possibly be Peter from X-Men Universe… Maybe?
So as revealed in Episode 9 of WandaVision, the identity of Fietro is none other than Ralph Bohner, the husband Agness always mention, and a possible real resident of Westview. WV director Matt Shakman already clarified that the “Bohner” is actually a reference to his 80’s sitcom Growing Pains. But for many fans of Evan Peters, this “Bohner” joke didn’t play well and at the same time, let us breakdown everything that is wrong with this identity of Ralph Bohner and why he’s suspicious despite the claim of WandaVision writers/director that Evan Peters has nothing to do with the mutants or X-Men Universe, after all they always deny everything. They even mentioned that they had no idea that Evan Peters appearance will cause so many theories and everything, which I highly doubt, I mean come on, they made him play QuickSilver in WandaVision when he is QuickSilver himself only of another universe. I don’t dissed ATJ, I love this guy too from his Kickass, Godzilla movie (this is where I first encounter ATJ before his QS role in Avengers), but as a QS, Evan Peters top him, on my opinion at least, he even has his own QS commercials. Also, Evan Peters have more cool QS moments, the Kitchen scene VS the Age of Ultron overall, at least for me, I prefer the kitchen scene and the whiplash part. Anyhow, let us begin:
Note: I edited this post to make this article more easier to read and added additional info.
1. Speculations roaming around that Ralph Bohner could be an aspiring actor because the picture is actually his headshot (which actually looks like his earlier AHS photos). I’m not going to debunk this possibility, but I do not believe it’s a headshot nor he’s an aspiring actor. Although true enough, the image does looks like of Evan Peters early AHS photos (kind of like Tate Langdon) – which is probably a reference to that, who knows.
2. The pile of papers on the side table. It is questionable why would your papers, a bill (a very old bill even - not folded or inside one of those envelopes) and your photos in plain sight where Monica – an outsider can see it? Almost as if you planned it all along and he wanted Monica to see it.
3. Necromancy vs Crystallum Possession. Necromancy is a dark arts of when the person (the Necromancer) can manipulate the dead body of the person, or summoning their spirit. Crystallum Possession however is also part of the dark arts but this time you are using an object (like crystals, gems, stones etc) that is embodied with the user’s spells to manipulate the wearer.
Agatha had told Wanda that what she does is a crystallum possession since necromancy is a no-no due to his brother’s body is on another continent, and since this Pietro died in 2014, it should now be bones, I think the “full of holes” remark is nothing more than a mocking remark, because if it’s not, then Marvel will probably have their own interpretation of Necromancy and Crystallum Possession, and this could probably go darker. And Ralph is wearing a bead necklace that is embedded with Agatha’s power. But is Agatha really in full control of Ralph? Honestly, I don’t think so. Why? Because in Episode 6, Peter said about Wanda’s costume “Worse than the costume mom made us the year we got typhus”, then she reminisced “that year”, and told him  “That’s not exactly how I remember it.” because in her universe, she isn’t wearing Halloween costume she thinks is worse and she didn’t deny about them getting typhus, so what are the odds of Agatha/Fietro getting that info if he is not Peter? Also, we don’t know how MARVEL will tell the story multiverse/alternate timelines (the Russo Brothers already claimed that they have their own way of telling this story), but if we are looking for a one generic rule, major life events will occur but will be told uniquely as per their universe, on this case Peter and Wanda did had a typhus, but in Peter’s world, his Wanda and him are probably wearing whatever cosplay outfit their mom made and in Wanda and Pietro are just wearing something simple, or it could be that Peter really just have a weird sense of style.
4. The WATER BILL. Now, this is a real bill, it is not part of Wanda’s illusion, this is Ralph’s actual water bill, because Ralph’s house was under Agatha’s spell, which makes it exempted from Wanda’s spell.  Also, if you go frame by frame, you can actually see the word “Water”, “PAST DUE” on the right column part of the bill, before it totally goes out of focus and you can only read the left side part, that also says “YOUR MONTHLY USAGE (1,000 GAL INCREMENTS)”, which further validates it’s a water bill, not a phone bill nor electricity bill as others actually claim. And here is the tricky part, the bill’s date. On the right side under the STATEMENT is the Account Information (using Arial font), it’s a bit hard to make out of it, but it’s actually an old bill. Before it becomes totally blurry, you can read the right part of the bill that says:
STATEMENT
ACCOUNT INFORMATION
ACCOUNT:                      09-3476-12
SERVICE ADDRESS:     2804 SHERWOOD DRIVE
BILL DATE:                     10/01/2020
DUE DATE:                     10/31/2020
If we go back to Infinity War, it takes place in June 2018. So that means that this Ralph Bohner survived the SNAP, but what could happen to him in year 2019-2020? Who knows, I don’t even know if I should care or not.
If we check on the usage chart – which is “not blurred” (it’s also in increments of 12 – 12/24/36/48/60), and I’ll just speculate on the numbers on the meter chart, so don’t take my word for it. Also, I don’t know what Marvel is planning or hinting by showing this insignificant 2020 bill, which also has confusing usage. (I’ll just use term like pcm – per cubic meter, so that it won’t just be plain numbers beside the month).
January - 6 pcm
February – 18 pcm
March – 6 pcm
April – 6 pcm
June – 6 pcm
July – 9 pcm
August – 13 pcm
September – 22 pcm
October – 34 pcm
(November and December have gray shade - similar to the one in month of Jan-May).
Again, I don’t know what’s the significance of not blurring this part of the bill while the right side column is properly blurred. And the confusing part of this bill, is the bill date is of 10/01/2020 – meaning Ralph had received this bill during the first week of October, but why is there already a usage for the full month of October, when usage should be only show up to the month of September? After the Account Information, there’s the
METER INFORMATION (WATER)
USAGE   PREVIOUS   DATE      CURRENT       DATE
4             1963 (?)        09/01/20      *- - - -*          *- - - -*
The PREVIOUS actually looks like either 1063 or 1963, and oddly enough the first Avengers Comics was published on September 1, 1963, I don’t know if that’s a reference to that, but from my pov, it shouldn’t be because this series is inspired of House of M and a bit touch of West Coast Avengers, which was already reference by the SUV plate number in Episode 7. The CURRENT and DATE are both unreadable, I can only identify _ _ _ 2 in CURRENT and 0_/_ _/20 for the DATE after.
And let’s also not forget that outside the HEX, it is August 2023 and as per Episode 8, inside the HEX is currently year 2013 as shown in the auditorium behind the lighting after it explained how Wanda created Vision. I don’t know if this is a reference to something from the past MCU projects (X-Men even) or future franchise like Falcon and Winter Soldier, who knows, really. I just find it weird why they didn’t blurry the meter chart while the rest are. But why year 2020? Why isn’t this bill thrown out yet? Didn’t Monica notice that billing date of the bill?
5. The man-cave. The staff really transformed Fietro’s man-cave into very, very Peter-like (if he really is not Peter). I will list thing that are present and similar to what Peter of X-Men Universe room have. I’ll reference * (single asterisk) for Days of Future Past, ** (double asterisk) for Apocalypse, and *** (triple asterisk) for both films.
❀ comfortable couch***
❀ guitar***
❀ headphones***
❀ balls*
❀ lots of posters***
❀ bike***
❀ a bar**
❀ shoes on the floor**
❀ different types of drinks (non alcoholic)***
Also, lots of silver/metallic items such as:
❀ silver lamp**
❀ silver TV
❀ silver house ventilation tubes
❀ silver pillowcases (looks gray on other angles)
❀ silver mini fridge
❀ silver microwave oven
❀ silver rack (where TV and speaker stands)
❀ silver wristwatch*
❀ video games*** (both PS & XBox)
and even something that looks like a stolen goods like the Tiki Bar plaque, Tiger head.
This Fietro is basically just missing the goggles, I did my best to look for it (like on those detective games that instructs you to find this and that *lol*), but there’s really none *laugh*. Also, I just noticed the arrangement of his man-cave – single-seat couch** > small side table with a lamp** > 3-seater couch (the Apocalypse has an L-shape couch though) > a middle coffee table**, this arrangement is similar to Peter’s man-cave in Apocalypse which can be slightly seen when his mom came down saying “Just checking on you” (you can watch it at starting point 1:02:55, at least on my copy), you just need to look for proper timing because a few of those shots are out of focus probably due to her obviously looking somewhere reading her lines that are raised besides the camera, which became even more obvious  when she did a close up shot when she told him “But trust me, this won’t end well. Nothing does with him.”
Also, in Episode 5, when Peter first made an appearance, the leather jacket he’s wearing is eerily similar to the one he’s wearing in his cameo appearance in Deadpool 2 (we only got the glimpse of the front of the jacket in Deadpool but the front side of his jacket in WandaVision is identical). Though I find it weird too that his hair color switch from silver to light ash blonde.
6. Ralph is the guy under witness protection? I doubt it, although honestly at first I considered maybe he is, but after a few thinking, it doesn’t lead to it, because if he’s in witness protection, and the person who is managing him forgets him because of Wanda, FBI database should still at least have a photo of him to be able to identify him, and Jimmy in episode 7 saw Peter and never commented about him being their missing guy. As we all know, the house is under the name Ralph Bohner, who we can assume survived the SNAP and possibly left that house in September 2020. If he had left the house way back in 2020, why does Agent Woo or FBI rather only checked it now? Also, if Ralph Boner is indeed the guy under witness protection, it is the FBI that pays off their bill, on this case, the Water Bill was past due even if it was an old bill, so I don’t think he is.
7. Does Ralph Boner really exist? This is actually something that I have given some thought. Because if we think of QuickSilver, one of his abilities as per comics is his Quick Intelligence. His mind process a lot of things much faster than an average person. Peter spying on everyone and pretending to be someone else in an unknown world is not surprising, let alone using everything he can take advantage of. It can be that the bill is fake and there is really no Ralph Bohner, or just like what I mentioned in #7, he could’ve possibly left in September 2020 and hasn’t returned yet, and Peter assumes this identity to avoid suspicion.
If we are to assume he really is Peter Maximoff of X-Men Universe (Earth-TRN414) and crossed over to Earth-616, I did consider this could also be the house where he lives as per his universe and just so happens that Ralph Bohner is the current owner of the house in this MCU. Also, Xavier Institute is located in NY and in Days of Future Past, they only drove from NY to his house via rental car, which we can assume that he doesn’t live that far from NY, after all NY and NJ are neighbors.
8. Also this has nothing to do with Ralph/Fietro, but something I noticed, that the outside anomaly or outside of Westview – about the selective amnesia has yet to be answered. It only explained that Wanda is manipulating the people INSIDE, but not the ones outside the HEX. What actually come to mind when I think about it is that it can be a work by a TELEPATH which can be either Charles Xavier or Emma Frost (no Jean Grey? Yes I excluded her). What I am actually thinking is that the person under witness protection is a spy sent by Charles or possibly working with him. He could have implanted false memory to the so called “family and friends”, so when the HEX was established, the strings got cut off hence no one could remember this “missing person” anymore, and Jimmy who has nothing to do with this “missing person” is not affected by the selective amnesia and assumes the responsibility of looking for him. And assuming Charles is the telepath who altered their memories of the people outside of Westview, he probably has done it as a precaution since he couldn’t contact his spy or “missing person” and wouldn’t take the risk of endangering the resident who were happened to be outside the HEX when Wanda establishes it.
These are just some of the things I find that doesn’t make sense with Ralph’s identity. But we’ll just leave it at that. I still really want James McAvoy back as Charles Xavier and Michael Fassbender as Magneto, since both Sir Ian McKKellen and Sir Patrick Stewart did mention they’re done with their role. And I feel that it’s too risky to use them since they are in their 80’s now, I don’t know them personally but it gives me some sorts of paranoia *laughs* thinking they might get injured.

Ain't I a Woman
So I made a post recently about Vicki Donovan and added a bit about the misogyny within in TVD and the fandom. I touched briefly on the Bonnie of it all, but as I said that's a different discussion, so here it is.
I'd add Bonnie, but this fandom is more racist than it is misogynistic so they don't even think to put her against Elena or the other girls due to her being black, no Bonnie gets her own special category as the strong black woman which they use to exclude her from being considered a woman at all, but we don't have time to get into all that.
Now that made me think of Sojourner Truth's infamous "Ain't I A Woman" speech basically about the same concept of not being seen as a woman or feminine because she was black and being excluded from the rights gained in the woman's suffrage movement.
Now TVD, many a moment goes old school racism to the point I gotta wonder who approved any of it, so it doesn't surprise me that this particular facet applies to Bonnie.
She gets love interests that are considered less desirable in the series let alone in comparison to her white counterparts (granted I don't find either Stefan or Damon a catch but you can't deny their allure especially over Jeremy and Enzo). When she does have any kind of love interest they are either using her, they die (repeatedly), and just don't go that hard for her (Enzo and his severely disinterested face in every intimate scene). Or in Jeremy's case when they do go hard he didn't have any power to help her, and he cheated on her multiple times.
You compare that to both Caroline and Elena's love interests you can see where Bonnie stands. She's an after thought while both Caroline and Elena are their LI reasons for living. While I do find these traits often annoying and bad story telling, it still offers insight into how the narrative sees Bonnie. It sees her as not even worth the effort. She's not in "the same league" as the white girls because she's not really even considered a woman.
You especially see that in the way they express her sexuality. It's been often observed by Bonnie fans that the show makes her essentially asexual. She literally has only two sex scenes one she stays mostly clothed for and it's after the fact and the other happens right after she as the anchor has someone painfully pass through her. And worse, to me at least, that was apparently when she lost her virginity. Now it would be one thing if Bonnie was portrayed as modest and if this fact had came to light before that episode, but it doesn't.
The show itself in terms of sex, while not sex positive (note how promiscuity in female characters is punished), treats it as nothing. Most teenage shows make a big deal out of virginity except for TVD which essentially skips over it completely in the first episodes where Caroline takes Damon home like she's in her 20s and has her own apartment and not 17 living with her mom. So the fact that Bonnie's sexuality is barely mentioned, and when it does it's a decided choice that she's less sexual that every other character tells me the viewer that it's another place where she's excluded, but worse she's once again an after thought in how she expresses her sexuality.
This injustice often fuels fanfic writers to write a Bonnie harem, but I think what should be noted is that the problem isn't that she never has sex, it's that it's never shown or talked about in either direction whether she's more modest or "slutty". It's a big part of the show and especially when it comes to the female characters and how they're treated, but this is one of those places Bonnie isn't judged. Usually I would jump for joy that finally she's not being judged for every little thing she does, but instead it notes what's off.
She's not being thought of as a woman which is why she's not being judged on her sex life or lack of (that catch 22 of being a woman). In fact, in my time on reddit she was more often commended for not having many love interests. Kat even stated it in an interview. To them it was subversive instead of peculiar that only the black character was portrayed this way.
Then there's the "let's make up an excuse to wear formal wear" episodes most of which she wasn't even present for and when she was she was in something way less formal than the others.
Miss Mystic Falls, an event both Caroline and Elena competed in and I believe both won at some point, but Bonnie isn't even considered in being a contestant. Is this due to her own preferences? We don't know because it's once again area she's not even thought of.
Founders Day parade where everyone is in participation but Bonnie on the sidelines taking pictures. There are tons of racist reason why she shouldn't be in that parade nor want to be, but again they're not brought up, so she's just off on the sidelines excluded completely.
Mikaelson Ball, an event that honestly was just a Klaroline set up, but even if so, Matt got an invite, along with every other member of the MFG except Bonnie (and Tyler), the most relevant character to that plotline. And once again, no explanation given for why she's missing.
Hell, even the cheer squad, in the pilot it's established all three girls are on the team, Elena quits, Caroline stays on, and they don't even bother explaining what Bonnie does. Its assumed she quit since she's never seen again but in season 7 during her dream sequence she's in her season 4 hair and the uniform from that year.
She's constantly excluded from events that would put her in direct competition with both Elena and Caroline and there's always no explanation given. The audience is supposed to accept it as natural and if by the amount of arguments I've been in where the arguing tagline is "she's just a supporting character" tells me it worked. No one thinks to question why other supporting characters are there but she isn't because the narrative has created a pattern where it's "just natural" for her not to he there, I can't completely blame the racism on the fandom. Sure, they heads in the sand, but they can react to the source material.
Now I know what some of you are thinking. "She went to the dances, got to dress up with everyone, and even won prom queen." School sanctioned events, the only ones she was allowed to participate in. She won prom queen, but honestly this fact plays even more into my point because neither Caroline or Elena were in the running, just Rebekah. It was an easy bone for the show runner to throw because it played right into her ranking system of the girls and white supremacy continued to reign supreme right down to shafting Tyler with Klaus.
The big point I'm making with this giant post is not that she's excluded from things, but how she's excluded. It's a narrator choice rather than character choice meaning the framing is very deliberate by the people in control of the story. And what that narrative tells me is they don't view Bonnie as a woman, they barely view her as a human being.
In fact, if the amount of pain they put her through is anything to go by with the attitude from all other characters that she can handle it, they don't see her as human. They see her as property, and had they hired a red headed white girl I guarantee you Bonnie would not have been viewed that way by the writers. Effort would have been put in her characterization, instead of make her a prop for white characters.

April 25: 2x16 The Gamesters of Triskelion
Finally watched some more Star Trek. I feel like it’s been forever...
Today’s ep is The Gamesters of Triskelion, which is... okay. It’s not terrible but I think its best aspects are the most familiar: the type of alien, the moral values at play; and its weakest are its most unique.
I think Spock likes it when Kirk says “mind the store.” What a folksy human thing to say!
Plus now that he’s Captain he gets to sit in the chair.
This conversation between Spock and Scotty is hilarious. “I’m assuming you mean they disappeared in an unusual way??” “Uh, yeah?? Do you think I’m dumb?”
This alien looks like Lady Gaga c. 2010
Kirk is being very Dramatic today.
Come on, Spock, gotta get your man.
You know Spock is worried when he mentions hope. That is, as McCoy says, a human emotion.
“Collars of obedience.” Kinky.
Stylish pink jail.
I’m really feeling this Spock and Bones interaction today. That’s a great eyebrow lift.
If the random alien is leaving, Uhura must have been his ass down.
“Nourishment interval.” We need to bring this into our modern vocabulary.
Not one, but TWO ladies in command gold today (one at Communications, and one at Spock’s station).
Wild aquatic fowl.
I feel like this episode is another example of a writer putting her alien sex fantasy on television. Like, a hardcore alien sex fantasy. The obedience collars, the training harness, the whipping, the weird flirtation between Chekov and his “training thrall”--herself a very androgynous alien, just to throw some gender play in there.
Kirk turning up the charm again. I missed Charming!Kirk. I mean, picking up a silver platter to use as a mirror and saying “That’s beautiful”? This man has no shame.
I feel like this episode shows how Spock’s logic is actually a very effective life strategy. He’s facing a very mysterious situation with high stakes--literally his best friend/soulmate/captain lost, plus two more crewmen--but he isn’t defeatist like McCoy or defensive like Scotty. He just follows the evidence, even when the evidence seems wild. And he was right.
Detective Kirk time!
“Are they computers?” He’s hoping so, since he’s very good at defeating computerized enemies.
Could it be instead another example of aliens who have transcended their physical bodies?
He is really laying the charm offensive on thick here.
I get how people have vague memories of TOS and remember Kirk as slutty, because certainly there are lots of shots of him kissing ladies, but like... 90% of the time he's using charm as a weapon, like he doesn't like Lady Gaga, he just wants to get off this planet.
“Love, for one thing.” Time for Kirk to be a Romantic Nerd again. He sure does love love!!
See imo just as it’s ridiculous for him to limit love to being one of the most important things on Earth, since he barely even spends any time on Earth and his general thesis is about what all intelligent creatures can care about besides their basic needs being met by “Providers,” I think it’s silly to limit love to being between men and women. And just as he’s kinda lying about the Earth thing, I think he’s lying about the heterosexual thing.
People in love “live together, help each other, make each other happy.” I love his definitions of love!! Like with Edith, he center helping each other in the definition.
McCoy and Scotty think they can take on Spock lmao. The Captain’s life is at stake; he’s not fooling around. And he’s right too so y’all can shush!!
Honestly, that leaning down to talk quietly to them--I know it’s because he doesn’t want to say the word “mutiny” too loud where other people can hear him, but it really reads like he’s mocking them.
Shauhna is harassed at work.
Spock’s like ‘screw a landing party, I will retrieve my space husband by myself... and I guess McCoy can come too.’
McCoy’s voice was the one Kirk heard but he still calls out to Spock.
Mmm, yes, disembodied alien brains.
I like the painted background behind them, too. Which is apparently stolen from Devil in the Dark. S2 needs more painted backgrounds.
“You think YOU’RE competitive? A race that does nothing but gamble? Well you’ve never met humans lol.”
Since when has Kirk ever competed for a woman? Hardly a competition when he always wins.
“Fresh thrall” something so... ugh about that phrase.
Ah, yes, an Andorian.
I’m starting to feel like this is Spock’s Pre-Reform Vulcan Sex Fantasy.
I feel like Shauhna will eventually become the leader of the Triskellion people. My mom thinks it would be cool for Kirk to meet her again in the future. I feel like there’s a fanfic in there somewhere...
“I didn’t lie, I just...lied.”
Honestly, don’t bother leaving everything to these disembodied colorful brains, just take Shauhna with you and enlist her in Starfleet. Or at least, like, high school.
...And after all that she STILL has a crush on Kirk. The man is too powerful.
What, no return to the Enterprise? No Kirk appearing shirtless on the bridge? No everyone acknowledges that Spock was right the whole time? No awkward little joking time?
I guess perhaps Kirk is embarrassed.
So overall... again, B basically.
As far as commonly used tropes in Star Trek go, this one is actually one of my favorite ones. I like it more than “godlike man must be defeated” and probably even more than “computer runs society,” though not as much as “old Earth tech becomes sentient.” But generally speaking “aliens transcend corporeal bodies by becoming too smart” is a good trope and I like seeing the different spins on it: the Organians, who can choose corporeal bodies if they want and are incredibly peaceful; the aliens from Return to Tomorrow, who wish they still had bodies; the aliens from The Cage/The Menagerie, who do have bodies but can’t do much with them, who must rely on aliens they capture to do physical work on the planet’s surface for them; and these aliens, who are so bored they must rely on arbitrary wagers using enslaved aliens just to have something to do. There’s something sort of... sad but fitting about that fate. Understandable, awful, pathetic. Still, I wouldn’t call this my favorite take on the trope.
But the specifics of the story, outside the “brain-aliens trope,” I didn’t like so much. The BDSM kink stuff mixed in with like actual slavery made me super uncomfortable. I know it’s based on Ancient Rome but like... even though it was a clear bread and circuses situation, that was not what I was thinking of tbqh.
This is a good episode for showcasing Star Trek Values, which overall I would say are my values. I do see how some people today would criticize them for being a little... well. How to say it. Colonizer-savior. I completely disagree that this is the reading that should be given to them and in fact I think it’s a bad faith reading but people are the way they are and certain things are in vogue sometimes and not others, so. I just mean that when Kirk says that they (the Federation, one would assume) have helped other civilizations “progress” or whatever word he uses, it sounds a little like they came in and made alien societies better using their own values. But I would say that what we actually see, in specific examples throughout the series, is the Federation wanting the civilizations it interacts with to be free, in fact requiring members state to be free, and that is really the one value a free society can impose on others or require of others--choosing slavery or dominion is choosing to relinquish all future choices, and thus cannot be allowed by any society that values freedom. That catch-22 that we see so much now. So, my point is, I think the values Kirk epitomizes for the show are freedom, self-determination, and a certain conception of progress, too: the ability to grow and develop, the avoidance of stagnation. And certainly this episode shows a clear case: having everything provided for you in exchange for being the professional playthings of a bunch of disembodied brains is objectively bad! Surely we can all agree on that. But this obvious example is used as an excuse for Kirk to speechify on the topic of what a utopian future will look like, what the best of humans can be, and what the rest of the universe could be like if it learns from our best traits (and not our worst). Which is overall something I find very comforting.
I’d just been thinking, at the beginning of this episode, that I think S1 is a better Kirk season than S2. S2 has too many episodes that problematize his leadership or his heroism, or that barely even use him--even episodes like The Trouble With Tribbles that outright mischaracterize him imo. But this episode really was Classic Kirk and I appreciated that. We see him being charming, smart, selfless, strong, creative, romantic... coming in at the end to embody the utopian values of the series.
Spock was so well characterized and so smart and so heroic, too, that he kinda was the mvp for me, though... Don’t take away my Kirk stan card lol. Spock was just so In Command... You can see how he could become a captain later, even if being in command never really interested him much.
I don’t entirely get why Kirk bargained for the thralls to all stay and make their own government (or to be trained in self-governance by their enslavers... a whole different issue tbqh), given that it’s already been established that most/all of them have been kidnapped from other planets. Should they not be... returned?
And if most/all of them are 2nd or later generations, that’s a whole other complex issue that could perhaps use third party mediators or something...
I also wondered about Shahna's origins. Was she the descendant of another civilization that is native to the planet, or is it just that her people were kidnapped so much earlier that she herself, personally, has never lived anywhere else?
I think it both makes more sense and is a more fitting ending if it’s the first. It makes sense to me that the first peoples enslaved by the brains were natives of the planet: more convenient that way. Also, I think we need to see more alien planets with more than one humanoid or human-intelligence level species.
And, if her people are native to the planet, having them become leaders of their own right again and not just possessions of the glowing brains is more powerful. Otherwise it's kinda sad: yes, they can form their own government here, but they've still been robbed of their real history and their real homeland, which they don't even remember.
Also as my mom pointed out, it’s not clear the brains themselves are native to the planet. They could have been invaders--the last real thing they did before they started wagering fake money--and Shauhna’s people the natives.
I really did like Shahna a lot and I hope she becomes the leader of whatever government they set up and eventually does get to travel into space.
Imo this was one of those TOS eps where the potential back story and the hints of world building are more interesting than the actual story.
Also apparently the actor who played Galt was trying to walk in a gliding manner so it wouldn’t be clear what he was hiding under those robes and... I have to say, definitely wheels.
Next up is A Piece of the Action, one of my favorites. Great plot, great fun, great sci fi concept, great Kirk material!

If you had written an episode of Supernatural, what would the plot be? (it can be a one shot or part of an overarching plot for the series)
Okay, so putting aside the common fandom ones that everyone’s taken a swing at- human!Impala, body swap, etc- and going with my strengths, it has to be an 80s vampire movie sort of thing. Very teen slasher, lots of Lost Boys references, a bit of that ‘our vampires are different’ thing that spn likes to do when they bring up other vampire media, the works.
Actually to really nail the Lost Boys vibe it should be in California on a boardwalk, maybe just before the spring break rush so business has been a little slow and the boys don’t have to contend with crowds. Dean is canonically a Lost Boys fan so he has that connection, and having it in Cali gives us room for some Sam flashbacks to his college days- I’m picturing this somewhere in the middle seasons, maybe, after the apocalypse but before the bunker. Probably season 7, as a motw filler ep to distract from the Leviathan stuff.
They stay at a charming but mostly empty b&b just off the boardwalk, still pretty empty because the tourist season doesn’t kick in for a few weeks yet. They’re trailing a string of disappearances- mostly drifters and runaways, but recently some local kids went missing and it made news. The boardwalk might not be at full capacity, but it is running.
Dean gets a shitty leather jacket at one of the stalls just like Michael lostboys. Sam runs into one of his old college buds who’s working on the boardwalk and awkwardly tries to hide the whole hunting thing before eventually narrowly rescuing the guy from the pack of vampires, who it turns out are running the bed and breakfast, and revealing himself as a hunter.
There’s at least one conversation about Jess when said college friend says he heard about the fire and asks Sam if he’s doing okay, if he ever moved on, etc- this is season 7 so I don’t think Sam has fully embraced the eternal hunter lifestyle yet so he’s a little awkward about the whole thing and it provokes some introspection, but he realizes after saving his friend that he does actually like helping people and makes some comment to Dean as they’re driving off about how being a hunter isn't too bad and it 'probably beats being a lawyer'. Maybe he’s even been to this boardwalk before with Jess so we get a flashback? idk I just think it’s weird that they forget about her after like a season or two so she’s at least discussed.
And this is a Lost Boys homage so even though it has its own plot there are plenty of little references- the intro scene is two teenage brothers getting picked off by vampires and the younger one is named ‘Mike’, Dean points out some flyer for a saxophone concert on the beach later in the week (because while Sam is confronting his past Dean is just having a good time on the beach), one of the vampires is named Corey, Dean at first thinks that the vampires are hiding out in a cave in the nearby woods because he has terminal Lost Boys disease until they get like hit over the head and wake up in the secret basement of the b&b surrounded by vampires. They use Echo & The Bunnymen aliases. At one point while they’re talking over the case in a diner Sam makes some crack about The Lost Boys being 'kind of gay' and Dean gets flustered/indignant but can’t come up with a good comeback.
Over the course of the episode they pose as FBI agents, talent scouts, and pretend to be interested in jobs as security guards at the boardwalk (a job position that, for some reason, always seems to be hiring) to get information because I like it when they play around with different cover stories instead of defaulting to FBI but also I had the idea of “Agents McCulloch and Sergeant” so I do want them to play FBI a little, something that quickly falls apart when Sam gets recognized by Unnamed College Friend and has to be like 'oh haha they're fake badges it's a joke. like uhhh' 'federal boob inspectors' 'yeah yeah like that see we're not impersonating federal agents my brother here is just a creep'.
And they get to go to the beach! This is an episode where Sam considers his past and confronts the fact that he doesn't feel as trapped being a hunter as he thought he would at 22, but it’s also an episode where Dean has a good day for once because I think he’s earned a little beach time. They don’t swim on camera or anything but Dean goads Sam to take a break from the research and catch a tan with him or something. Sam makes a comment at the end of the episode about there being sand in his keyboard and something like “that’s enough beach for me for a while” because I am projecting my not-a-beach-person thing onto Sam. Overall it's a fun light-hearted motw episode with a hint at Sam's series long character arc.
Unfortunately as a motw episode in season 7 Cas isn’t there and only gets like a brief mention in the beginning of the episode before they decide to take the case, but Dean got a souvenir so at some point later in the series there’s room for a callback where Dean shows off his shitty black leather jacket and asks Cas if he thinks he looks good in it- canon typical queerbait, you know how it is. Maybe there’s another motw episode in a later season where Sam’s college friend comes back as a vampire or something because that feels like something spn would do.
CW hire me for the fake spn reboot.

30 Days of the Dark Crystal Challenge
Decided to do poultry-blocks Dark Crystal challenge because it looks like a lot of fun to do. However I’m cheating and I wrote all of this within a couple of days. Warning: fairly large post with pictures and fan ramblings.
EDIT: I FORGOT TO INCLUDE DAY 16 WHOOP. It’s in there now.
Day 1. Your favorite skeksis
Tumblr media
Idiot, feral, wildman who stole my heart. How? Why? Who knows. *chef kisses* Beautiful stinky bastard.
Day 2: Your favorite gelfling
Tumblr media
Bless her and her skeksis cosplay. What a queen.
Day 3: A character that you love that everyone seems to hate.
Tumblr media
The tides are changing for her it seems. I think people are appreciating her more, but she still faces her fair share of controversies. Not that I don’t think it warrants discussion nor am I excusing her actions. But she’s way more complex than what a lot of people are making her out to be.
Day 4: A character that you hate that everyone seems to love.
Tumblr media
Hate is a strong word as I don’t hate him, but I don’t really care for Amri. He feels like a bootleg Deet mixed with a little bit of Kylan and Gurjin. Wasted potential and honestly shouldn’t have been the POV for Tides of the Dark Crystal. Seems I’m alone in this opinion, though. Maybe the book warrants rereading?
Day 5: Movie or TV Show? Why?
Tumblr media
TV Show by miles! I think the series accomplishes way more than the movie does, like establishing lore,  better written characters, and a more engaging story. I actually cared about the gelfling and it really fleshed out the skeksis in an interesting way outside of “oh they do evil things because they’re evil!”. Doesn’t mean it does everything right, but I’ll get into that later.
Day 6: Something you wish that happened in the series but didn’t.
Tumblr media
Just a few things. I miss the gelfling intermingling with the mystics, particularly urVa. I love everything that happens with urGoh and skekGra, but some of the bonding moments Naia had with urVa are precious and I wish we had more of that. I also wished the gelfling got the message out to the other clans like they did in the book where Kylan dreametched their message onto the Santuary Tree’s blossoms and scattered them all throughout Thra. I also wished Tavra and Onica were an established couple, but maybe it’s not too late for that.
Day 7: Favorite gelfling clan
Tumblr media
The Sifa! It was the Dousan at first, but the more I learned about the Sifa the more I grew to love the clan. If I were a gelfling I would probably be a sifa myself LOL.
Day 8: You opinion on Aughra
Tumblr media
She’s a fun and fascinating character! Aughra puts a unique spin on the whole beautiful, wise earth goddess trope by making her ugly, old, and cranky. She’s also a character with her own flaws, even having a mini arc about neglecting to take care of her planet and doing whatever she can to make amends. Not to mention she’s wildly entertaining. Much love for Aughra!
Day 9: Skeksis or Gelfling?
Tumblr media
Both!
Day 10: Your opinion on podlings?
Tumblr media
They’re just funky little potato people who just want to have fun, dance, and drink all day and I respect them for that. They’re great. Also Hup exists and he’s just an amazing character so there’s that.
Day 11: Your The Dark Crystal unpopular opinion
Tumblr media
I think it’s okay to sympathize with the skeksis as long as one is not excusing their actions. I see a lot of people say you shouldn’t because they’re evil and they commit atrocities. Which, yes, it’s true, but I think both can co-exist. I mean, skekTek’s whole cycle of abuse is written very sympathetically yet the show doesn’t coddle him. It shows the ugliness of his character and what happens when someone isn’t capable of cutting off from said cycle. Also the writers consider the skeksis as tragic characters due to their broken nature so I don’t think it’s wrong to be a little sympathetic. But once again with great emphasis, sympathy is fine as long as their actions are judged. They are awful bastards and no amount of sympathy will change that.
Day 12: Something you dislike about the series
Tumblr media
I think the stuff I don’t like about the show is a result of its pacing and cluttered cast. There are so many stories going on and while I liked how they handled it for the most part, you can also see how the show rushes to get through all of them. A lot of important moments where a character should reflect or something that should simmer more is pushed aside for the next thing. Maybe if the show was given more episodes and time to breath it would have been better off.
Day 13: Most disappointing thing about the series
Tumblr media
SkekMal and urVa didn’t have enough screen time and we were honestly ROBBED.
Day 14: Your OTP
Tumblr media
Speaking of which... . Its a crack ship, but I’m all about that allegory for self love (and I just want these two to be alive). Day 15: Favorite quote
Tumblr media
Listed plenty of my favorite quotes before, but I’ll pick this one:
“ Life is my paint. Death is my canvas”
Day 16: Rate the skeksis from least favorite to favorite OR rate the gelfling from lest favorite to favorite [or both!]
Tumblr media
And if you want my gelfling hot takes, here’s this list (just backwards in context to this post)
Day 17: Opinion on Raunip?
Tumblr media
Raunip is a fantastic character. I loved him in Creation Myths and I can’t wait to see what role he’d play in the resistance. And I absolutely love the parallels between him and the urskeks it’s great.
Day 18: A character that is most similar to you.
Tumblr media
I too am a dark-dwelling gremlin who constantly forgets where I put things and crack a few dark jokes at my expense.
Day 19: Which character do you strongly dislike, why?
Tumblr media
This is entirely based on the books, but I find Mera to be awful.  I think it’s because she’s so fake and condescending? When Naia arrived in Sami Thicket, she was acting nice and polite but when the Drenchen asked her why the skeksis never visited Sog Mera responded  “It’s only worth counting what’s valuable”. She continuously disrespects her by calling her pet names even when Naia became maudra. It doesn’t come off as cute, it’s gross. I don’t recall Mera ever apologizing for any of the shit she did to Naia... or Kylan for that matter. She was a pretty neglectful step-mother to him. She doesn’t have an excuse being busy with Maudra stuff because Laesid was a kickass mom to her kids. So in conclusion, fuck this bitch.
Day 20: What do you like so much about the Dark Crystal?
Tumblr media
The better question what’s not to love about the Dark Crystal? It has amazing creature design, an expansive world that feels real and alien from our own, having complex and interesting characters as well as villains, the fact that it relies heavily on practical effects a.k.a puppetry... . There’s nothing like it and that’s what makes it so wonderful and unique. It needs to be appreciated more.
Day 21: Favorite music piece from the soundtrack?
Tumblr media
Can’t beat that opening theme.
Day 22: Your opinion on the sequel comics [Power/Beneath the Dark Crystal]
Tumblr media
They have cool concepts and ideas, but they’re not written well. Power is just the movie if it was put into a blender and shredded and ignoring a large portion of established lore for the sake of plot. And Beneath is just a generic fantasy story with the Dark Crystal logo slapped on it.
Day 23: Which character from the YA novels/comics do you wish we would see more of?
Tumblr media
There are plenty of characters that are a given to appear in the series at some point (skekSa, skekLi, urSan, etc). And of course I want to see them, but I really hope Periss shows up (and his brother too). He is one of my favorite characters from the book series and we could use some more Dousan rep!
Day 24: Your opinion on the Age of Resistance comic?
Tumblr media
I have yet to read the comics. I’m waiting on them to be part of a collection so I don’t have to buy all of the volumes at once (I prefer owning physical copies). I’ve heard good things about them, especially the story with Hup and the current Mayrin arc. I’m excited to get my hands on them.
Day 25: The best moment/scene in the series?
Tumblr media
There are a lot of great moments, but Rian and Ordon’s fight with skekMal is still my favorite in the entire series. The "Speak For the Dead” scene is a close second.
Day 26: The death of a character that hurt you the most?
Tumblr media
He did not deserve this. Fuck you, skekMal.
Day 27: Your favorite episode from the series?
Tumblr media
It’s got to be 4. Not just because a number of my favorite characters debut in this episode, but it’s an important one for the plot. Stakes are being raised, we’re seeing set ups to major story elements and character arcs, and events that impact the rest of the series. It also has a handful of my favorite character moments and interactions.
Day 28: Your favorite non-skeksis and non-gelfling character? Why?
Tumblr media
I’ve come to realize the reasons why I love urVa are the same as why I love skekMal (incredibly appropriate I might say). There’s enough information about him that we get a good understanding on who he is as a character, but still mysterious enough that there’s interest in wanting to know more. Much like his skeksis, he’s unique from the other mystics and thus giving him unique experiences that are fun to speculate. However, the YA novels are responsible for my current fondness of him.
Day 29: Do you like the urru and skeksis apart or like them as urSkeks together?
Tumblr media
A main theme of the Dark Crystal is unity and balance. The main conflict of the franchise are the skeksis, the broken fragments of their urskek self who, according to the writers, “...[have] a dire need for the qualities they lack”. Their only salvation is to become urskeks again and unfortunately many of the pairs never achieve this.  They’re basically a giant allegory for the self and self-love. While we don’t really know what they were like when they were an urskek (aside from SilSol perhaps), we can get some understanding when we look at their pairs and see what traits they share. Speculation is also fun! So as much as I love the skeksis and mystics as individuals, I prefer them to be whole again.
Day 30: What are your wishes for a possible season 2?
Tumblr media
A whole bunch of things. I want to see them explore more about the mystics and their lifestyle, having Raunip play a big part in the plot, seeing more of skekSa’s fall from grace from her perspective, the beginning of the Garthim Wars, and more.
