Oracle!Reader Part 23
Masterlist - Part 1, Part 22, Part 24
Warning! This is a SAGAU imposter au so this is pretty gory and not happy all the time. Plus yandere but that's the expected for SAGAU.
Xingqiu and Chongyun both showed muddled emotions at your words of leaving Liyue.
“That may be best for you…” Chongyun says first as he keeps his gaze on the floorboards.
“Yes, I agree. Although I never expected that you would have to leave Liyue so soon, it's clear that you aren't safe here.”
Xingqiu’s words that were full of understanding still had disappointment sprinkled in.
“We can't do much to help you when it comes to Ningguang, but Mondstadt is a different story. Do you have the talisman on you right now?”
Chongyun takes a few steps closer as you lift the amulet for him to see. He rubs one finger on it, examining the symbol that appears at the action.
“It's still at full charge, good. The road to Mondstadt can either be empty or full of demons depending on the day. But once you get to Wangshu Inn, it becomes much safer.”
“Because of Xiao, right? Despite how the situation looked when I first met the Adepti, I'm on relatively good terms with them now.”
It was a bit risky telling them this, but they both deserved to know at this point.
“When are you planning on leaving? Is your meeting with Ningguang today?” Switching the topic, Xingqiu brings the focus back to the most pressing issue.
Nodding, you answer. “My meeting is with her today, but I'll probably have to leave either at midnight or early tomorrow morning. The sooner, the better.”
“Then I can offer you some help that should make staying in Mondstadt a bit easier.” Xingqiu grins as he takes out paper and some ink. “I happen to know someone-”
“Albedo, right?” Cutting off Xingqiu as you think back to his connection, you continue. “Together you made the book, uh what was the name again? A Legend of a Sword? It got pretty popular in Inazuma. I remember there was a whole festival on light novels that you both attended too.”
Once you stop, you notice Xingqiu squinting his eyes at you before replying. “That's really creepy, you know? If I didn't know you were the Oracle, then I would have believed you to be some stalker.”
“If I was, then I wouldn't be stalking you of all people.” You snapped back as he grins while shaking his head.
“But yes, I'll send Albedo a letter in advance so that he can arrange for you to be settled nicely over there. I won't mention the Oracle situation as the Creator didn't want you to be known widely like that.”
It's been so long since you last heard the title ‘Creator’ be mentioned despite the fact that all of your problems come from their supposed existence.
Only goes to show just how ingrained the Creator is in this world.
“Thanks Xingqiu. Albedo is the chief alchemist and well respected among the community, so I should be in safe hands.”
Xingqiu merely hums in response as Chongyun tugs the amulet closer to him.
“Just trying to apply a better talisman on it.” He mumbles in accordance with your stare as he settles himself closer to you.
He's basically pressed against your side, but you strangely don't feel uncomfortable to have him close.
As the pair focus on their own activities, your mind wanders off to Albedo.
Albedo, the chief alchemist and homunculus created by Gold, the famous Khaenri'an scientist. Khaenri'ah, which also held so much information that could be connected to Celestia…
It was a long shot, but you could try digging for information about Celestia from him. The deal that Celestia made with Teyvat still bothers you to no end. With the age of this deal unknown, you might even have to look into the primordial dragons if it's even older than the Archon war.
A light shining brought you back to the present and your eyes flickered down to where the amulet shined in Chongyun’s hands.
Once it died down to reveal a more intricate symbol than before, Chongyun nodded, satisfied with the final product.
“This one is a lot stronger and should last longer now. I know you can fight well, but the demonic energy in Bishui Plain and Qiongji Estuary has shown to rise around this time of the year.”
Carefully taking the amulet from him, you thumbed the symbol with curious eyes. “I get it, thank you. Does it activate on its own, or do I have to activate it with something?”
“It'll work on its own. Depending on the amount and degree of demonic energy around it, the workings will change.”
Motioning with his hands, Chongyun’s calm voice explains the working to you. At the end of the rather lengthy explanation, you nod and condense the information in your mind.
“And now that Instructor Chongyun is done teaching you, I'm happy to say that I'm done with the letter. Have been for a while, but I saw no need to interrupt the oh so fascinating lecture.”
Raising the letter, Xingqiu lazily waved it as Chongyun bristled but ultimately said nothing.
“I can send this once I get home. Unfortunately, neither me nor Chongyun will be available to accompany you through your journey.”
Xingqiu tsk’d at his own words while Chongyun turned his head away, visibly sulking.
“My family was just hired to check out Wuwang Hill and my attendance for this is mandatory. Xingqiu’s father is forcing him to stay and attend meetings with his brother for the week as well.”
All you could do was smile sadly in response.
Before long they were both forced to leave by Baizhu who insisted on total privacy for the reviewing of your medication and discharge.
Watching them climb down the stairs from the window in your room, you listen absentmindedly to Baizhu.
Changsheng still refused to see you. Something Tevyat was clearly displeased with, as the once sunny weather quickly turned cloudy. The cold-blooded creature must be huffing in annoyance by now.
“And this is the overview of medication and supplements to take, with the doses and dates to take them.”
Casually looking over the paper received from the shady snake bastard, you hummed for a moment before stuffing it into your bag.
“All of it is paid for by your special benefactor. And the drug you requested has already been paid with by your body, as we both know.”
‘Must he phrase it like that?’ You internally questioned as you snatch the medication and shove it into your bag.
“I'm glad for it. Maybe even more so if she didn't pin so many babysitters onto me.”
At your grumble, Baizhu’s smile wavered at the edges. Either he truly hadn't known why there was extra ‘security’ or he was a great liar. You suspect it's a bit of both.
“Then if everything has been covered, I’m happy to say that you're officially discharged as of-” He merely glanced at the sun still high in the sky before finishing. “1300. I sincerely hope that the next time we meet you'll be in a better physical state.”
“And I sincerely wish we never have to meet again.” The words you utter are full of sarcasm, something Baizhu simply chuckles at.
“Now what could I have possibly done to deserve your ire, dear Oracle?”
“It's what you haven't done. A little heads up about all the guards would have been nice.”
“Oh, but I did!” His smile seems a little sharper as he leans toward you, his glasses sliding down to the bridge of his nose. “Didn't I let you know early on that there were quite a lot of guards?”
With an annoyed scoff, you snap back. “You said it was due to the two temples nearby, not cause Ningguang wanted to keep an eye on me.”
Raising his hands with wide eyes, Baizhu tried to placate you. “I'm not part of the Millelith, how on earth could a physician like me know the true reasoning?”
Holding his gaze, you tried to discern what he was truly thinking at this moment. Malice? Amusement? Mocking kindness?
But at that moment, all you could see was genuine surprise in his eyes. It only served to confuse you further.
Was Baizhu truly innocent in this? Your instincts in situations like these were usually correct. Besides, what would Baizhu even gain from deceiving you?
Still, that didn't explain why Baizhu was always so damn shady, but maybe you should chalk it up to an unfortunate side effect of being contracted with a snake.
“Well, then let me reiterate my earlier words. While I still hope we won't have to meet again. I do wish for us to want to meet again.”
Baizhu lowers his arms while fixing his glasses to laugh, the sound is surprisingly tender. “And how do you expect me to tell when that would be? I’m no mind reader.”
Standing up, you stay silent as you slip your bag over your shoulders and move past him. The door opens with a creak as you tilt your head slightly to meet his eyes.
“To put it simply, I’ll want to see you when you discover whatever is hidden in my culture sample.”
The door clicks shut as you leave Bubu’s Pharmacy for good.
----------------------------
After a brief but firm pat to Qiqi’s head, you walk down the stairs casually. The slight rustling of the leaves, the fabric of curtains drawn, and the quieting of chatter are all brought to your attention.
Ningguang’s spies and the Millelith guards are all watching you like rabid dogs, waiting for you to slip up and give them an excuse to arrest you right now.
Smiling without hesitation, you get to the last step and pretend that the forced conversations around you aren't scripted, and that the eyes locked on you are of a curious bystander and not the ones of detectives.
Bringing your attention back to the list you have clenched in your hand, you read the first errand on the list.
Return books to library.
Easy enough, and it's even easier when people seem to automatically avoid being in your path.
Is this what a day in Xinyan's life feels like? It's honestly not that bad.
At least you thought so until you got to the counter and waited for the receptionist to return.
Five minutes pass. Then ten minutes, which quickly turn into fifteen in a blink of an eye. You can feel your mood worsening.
Deciding to test something, you walk away from the library and turn the corner. Peeking around the corner, you watch as the ‘customer’ that was standing in the corner all those minutes gets to the counter. Almost immediately, a swarm of people return to it.
Sighing heavily, you ignore the weight of suspicious stares and turn the corner back into the library. Getting back into line feels humiliating, but it's just a quick errand, you tell yourself.
No one moves out of the way, but the quick glances they send you make them pale with each minute.
Not a soul dares to stand behind you.
It's finally your turn, and you place your books on the table with the last bit of patience you had. She doesn't meet your eyes and mumbles something.
“I'm sorry, what did you say?” Leaning closer, you try to catch her words, only for her to yell.
“It's lunchtime now so I can't accept any more returns or purchases. H-Have a good-d da-ay!”
Flabbergasted at the sheer audacity, you watch her flip a sign on the table and flee the area.
“Fuck this shit.” Colorful curses leave you as you drop all the books haphazardly on the table and storm away.
Crossing it off the list, you follow the main path to the next errand.
Collect reward from Guild
That commission should have given you one hell of a paycheck the last time you checked. Primogems may be worthless now, but you could use the Mora the commission provides.
Plus, you needed to let them know to change it to the Mondstadt region.
Lost in thought of all the technicalities and paperwork you would have to fill out, you weren't focusing on the fleeting whispers around you.
“Is that them?”
“Who else could it be?”
“What a monster…”
“-as long as we get paid.”
“Who cares about-”
“It's me or them.”
“As long as it's them and not me.”
Your experience at the guild was a much kinder one. Katheryne was the epitome of professionalism, just as you remembered her to be. Not that you expected much else from a robot.
After handing all the written work to her, you finally noticed the absence of a certain person.
“Where’s that grouchy Lan? She's usually here, isn't she?” Checking the vicinity, you try to spot the brown recognizable bob.
“The Branch Master Lan is currently undertaking a commission at this time.”
“About the unseen razor, right?”
“That can not be disclosed to unauthorized-”
“It's fine. I’ll see you later, Katheryne.” Turning around, you leave without another thought. Lan wasn't anywhere near the ‘threatening’ list you've created since you last saw her.
Pick up plushie
Crossing out the previous task, you look at the present one with mixed emotions. On one hand, you were happy to get a chance to see something related to Earth, to your world. But at the same time, you couldn't help but wonder if it would serve more as a distraction than anything else. The memories it brought up never failed to leave your heart troubled…
Remembering the money you spent commissioning it ultimately tipped the scales, and so you dragged your feet to the little old lady’s toy shop.
It was empty just as the first time you were there as she hummed. If she was a vision holder you'd guess Hydro judging by the tranquility she radiated.
Her eyes meet yours and a happy smile slips onto your face without much thought.
“Here to pick up the toy, dearie?”
“Yup.” Popping the ‘p’, you watched as she gathered a delicately wrapped box from under the other boxes and presented it to you.
“Enjoy the nostalgic memories a toy can bring.”
You politely thank her before taking the present and walking away. The weight of the box is heavy with dread, and you can only find solace in the fact she didn't refer to it as ‘happy’ memories.
Once sufficiently out of sight, you take to grasping the lid. But you couldn't bring yourself to remove it.
Too many memories. All of them are rushing in and filled with conflicting feelings that would surely crush you. The fear and selfishness of the broken promises and unfulfilled desires would throw you off your game.
With a little too much enthusiasm, you stuff the box of the cat plushie into your bag.
Most likely to stay forgotten and distant from the present you're facing.
Scratching it off harder than the rest, you get to the last errand.
Refill supplies
A smart and mature move considering how you used the whole Medkit during the chase. The soggy bandages and washed away ointment really hurt your heart and wallet.
Revisiting the same shops you went to the first time proved to be ineffective. Either they were completely sold out or no longer supplying them.
Forced to visit more stores, you had to walk around the city a lot more than you cared to. Each store had one of the two situations, and the skittish actions of everyone around you were just the cherry on top.
At one point you even tried to buy the individual items separately, and even that failed.
It's not like you could just wait till next week for the first shipment. You weren't even sure you would live till then.
Eventually, you found yourself sulking on the lower docks, turning the situation around in your head.
If only you lived in Liyue for a little longer, maybe you could have found some of the hidden shops. Befriend a store owner and get a hidden one.
Just who the hell would even go out of their way to get every medical first aid part when it's such a crucial item for so many people in this era?
A name finally comes to mind and your expression sours at the thought. Not that you’d let it show, Celestia knows how many guards are watching you at this moment-
A sudden, rapid series of taps on your shoulder has you spinning around in surprise.
A young boy stands before you. The clothes he wears has visible wear and tear as the fabric frays from the edges. Yet you can't help but think you might have seen him before.
Placing a finger on his lips, he uses his other hand to grab hold of your elbow and tug you along.
Surprised but not suspicious of the kid, you let him lead you deeper into the docks. The dark red of his eyes seem to glow within the shadows as his dirty blond hair acts as your beacon of light.
The smell of fresh fish turns rotten, and the dirt caked under his fingernails stains your clothes. The complete and straight planks become jagged and creaky as you follow him farther.
But you stayed silent.
You recognized a path to the seedy part of the city when you see it.
Instead, you examine the younger boy with a critical eye and finally connect the dots. He must be one of the kids you saved with Yiran.
A smirk creeps up your face. It seems you managed to use your time wisely in making connections after all.
Following along the twists and turns, you don't worry too much about the Millelith. Most of the guards probably couldn't even get this far. If you had to guess, it would only be the detectives who could keep up.
It's not like the hidden underworld of cities as popular as Liyue Harbor are any big secret to them.
Stalls and various shops fill the area as flickering lanterns and other extra lighting give you a wider view.
Multiple people call out to the boy as he silently waves to them. The gaze of the homeless and shady people around aren't warm, but aren't hostile either.
Not that you were exactly expecting a warm welcome, but at least you didn't have to worry about sudden personality changes.
Money could buy you information, but it wouldn't buy you trust in these parts.
He finally stops at a little nook in the corner of the area. The door is worn down with scratches and marks yet the light you can see under it is warm.
Silent as before, he points at you, then to the rows of shops in a sweeping motion before stopping at the door.
Pinching your brows in slight confusion, you chew on the gestures to understand it. High-pitched laughter that suspiciously sounds like children eases into your ears as the boy squirms in place.
“Did you want me to knock on the door when I'm done shopping? That you'll lead me back to the surface?”
It was the only thing that you can think of. And despite your hesitation, the boy nods, clearly relieved that you understood the message.
He must truly be mute, no doubt from whatever horrors he must have faced that lead to the scars poorly hidden by mud on his arms.
You were thankful either way. Just leading you here was great but getting an exit too was even better. Now you could avoid getting mugged and/or murdered on your way back.
“Thanks man, I'll be quick.” With that, you walk away, already following the invisible path to the shops that caught your eye.
As much as you would have liked to explore the various items and weapons they had, you didn't want to keep the kid waiting.
After having to buy a rather expensive medical kit, a minor downside to finding the first medical anything since you left Bubu’s pharmacy, you pick up a minor stitching case.
You could have really used one during your latest and probably not last chase. Stuffing it into your bag, as people eye the magical item with desire, you quickly find the home.
Getting to the door, you step closer than before and take note of the older voice. A woman that's chuckling, and a lingering sense of guilt invades your mind.
Quickly rapping your knuckles on the wood, you step away as the home goes dead quiet.
Multiple little eyes peer at you from windows below you as you lazily grin and wave. They all scatter as giggling resumes and the sound of playing returns.
But not the woman’s voice. You didn't expect it to. It's hard to face the only person you've poured your raw wounds from a child's death to.
The kid finally steps out with multiple clicks of locks echoing around the small space. Smiling, you take no offense to the action. You weren't here for trust, and they weren't helping you out of it either.
His crimson eyes glisten with interest at your bag. He wants his pay, and you're more than happy to oblige.
Stuffing your hand into the bag, you feel the familiar clink of Mora gathering in your hand. Pulling it out, you place an appropriate amount into the pouch he already has prepared.
When you drop it all, he takes it closer to him and picks up a piece. The first thing he does is try to bite it, and the familiar memory of you testing coins the same way makes you smile sadly.
Counting the Mora, he frowns, clearly displeased with the amount. He holds his hand out, and you can feel the other children’s stares digging into you.
“I'm going to give you two things that aren't Mora, okay? But you have to keep it a secret.”
He narrows his eyes, no doubt suspecting you of being a shady person. That's probably why he brought you here first and demanded payment before returning you.
Like this, he has back up and cornered you further into payment of his choosing.
“Do you have a cooking pot?”
He frowns in confusion before nodding slowly. Lifting one finger in a pause motion, before heading back inside his home.
He returns while holding a clean cooking pot. It doesn’t take long before he places it over the open fire you already started.
Small eyes follow your every step as you dig out ingredients from your bag. Mentally going over the ingredients you had originally prepared for your celebration feast if you survived tonight, you drop them into the pot.
4 ham, 3 crabs, 3 shrimp meat, and 3 matsutake potatoes are dropped in.
Turning around, you count to five as the boy gives you a confused stare. But you only wink at him before turning around to look at the pot, as his eyes widen at the sight.
Adeptus’ Temptation sits innocently in the pot as the rich aroma wafts around the area, drawing curious hungry eyes.
Leaning down, you whisper to the boy.
“Get your friends and bring the pot back into your house quickly. This food is blessed and safe as you watched the whole process. I suggest you let the sickly and injured children eat first.”
He looks between you and the pot with conflicting emotions. On one hand, he can't trust you too much, but even the smell of the food was clearly tempting him.
It's the shuffling of feet getting closer that makes him bang on the door, signalling for the other children to come out and help him bring it inside.
By the time the shabby adults come into view, it's just you and the boy ‘talking’ as they grumble and turn around.
The kid still looks displeased. You don't blame him completely, since how can he trust that the food you cook isn't spiked with anything nefarious.
You're not even sure if it can heal people that aren't acolytes. It doesn't work on you after all.
At least they'll all enjoy a hot meal, even if it doesn't work.
Sighing, you take out your last resort from your bag, sadly selecting it and pulling it out. The secret weapon you've been saving since your time in Inazuma.
The colorful assortment of candy wrappers makes the kid’s eyes sparkle with the childlike glee that was absent since you met him. Probably long before you met him.
“It's not just Liyue candy, some are even from Inazuma.” The thought of giving up your hard-earned candy hurt you, but you let it go.
The candy you squirreled away during the Inazuma festival, and the discount ones you bought at cheap prices at Liyue’s markets, were both never going to be eaten anyway.
His hands reach out to snatch the candy greedily from you but you raise it out of reach at the last second. He stomps his foot in childish indignation as you chuckle.
“Sorry, but I need you to bring me back to the outside before you scam me out of any more goodies.”
Finally giving up, he grabs your elbow again and leads you back through the streets. You enjoy the sights as he leads you zigzagging through the stalls.
You can't help but wonder if any detectives are still watching your boring little interactions. Admittedly, you played into the kid's desires more then you had to.
But you couldn't stop yourself from doing so when all you could see in him was yourself when you were that height.
The sun comes into light as the dim lanterns fade away. Like this, you can see his features once more as the stomping of soldiers return.
His eyes scan the area at the sound, but he keeps his hands open for the sweet treats. Smiling, you drop the candy into his open palms before he rushes off with a beaming boyish grin.
Stretching as you walk up the planks to the surface, you finally cross off the last item and drop it into the nearby trash can.
You try to ignore how it disappears when you turn the corner.
------------------------------------
Time ticks down slowly, and you aren't looking forward to seeing Madam Ping just yet. Besides, you made a long-overdue promise to someone else beforehand.
Starting up at the somewhat hidden Funeral Parlor, you push the door open with a casual; “Hey, I'm here to meet up with the Director of this fine and totally not macabre establishment.”
The receptionist blinks at your sudden words before a cheery voice responds from behind her.
“You sure took your time, Y/N. I almost wondered if you up and died before I got a chance to have you purchase one of our very convenient and practical deals!”
Yet again, Hu Tao was right on the money about you being close to death. Idly, you wonder if you look half as dead as you feel.
The receptionist is more than happy to slip away as her boss bounds up to you with that elemental ghost hovering around her.
Flower pupils stare into your eyes, giving you a vague sense of unease as Hu Tao examines you from various angles.
“Yup, yup! Just as I suspected. You are in desperate need of escape, and it seems the only way you'll be getting it is in death. My honest suggestion is that you buy a coffin from us and lead a hedonist lifestyle to enjoy the few years you have left.”
“Thanks for the vote of confidence.” You dryly respond as she nods approvingly.
“A business needs to be honest for it to succeed in the long-term. Trust of the customers is one of the biggest key factors.”
Not willing to argue on a topic you were admittedly clueless on, you follow her deeper into the Parlor.
“Then you got any good deals for a traveling adventurer like me who could be dead halfway across the world?”
She sighs, exaggerating it to the utmost while circling you. “I thought deeply on the topic and while the Wangshsng Funeral Parlor has grown enough to reach all of Liyue and a good amount of Mondstadt and Sumeru, we still haven't grown enough to pair up with each region.”
Passing by multiple doors, your eyes scan for a clue on where she was leading you.
“But considering you're the most eager customer I've had concerning their own death, I decided to present you with a special deal.”
“Wouldn't suicidal people also be enthusiastic in this topic?”
“They're usually more focused on the moment and their own afterlife, instead of the corpse they leave behind. Besides-!”
Whipping around to look at you with a knowing grin, she lays a hand decorated in rings on the handle.
“You aren't that far from being called a suicidal person yourself, Y/N!”
Before you can question her on those words, she swings the door open to show multiple rows of various coffins.
“The special offer I'm giving you is to purchase a coffin and I will personally escort your wandering soul to the border for proper peace.”
Tearing your eyes from the admittedly impressive collection of varying caskets, you have the sense to ask her a question. “So, what's the point in me buying a coffin if my body ends up in the waters of Fontaine? And how could I even trust that you have the ability to escort souls?”
From what you remember, Hu Tao should have no clue about your oracle status, so logically you should act oblivious to her connection with the border. Would you even be able to cross the border? It’s not like you were born on Teyvat like her other customers.
Unless Zhongli told her, but that would require more of an explanation on his behalf that he wouldn't want to do.
“Very good question, dear customer!” She spins around to face you once more, her long twin tails swinging during the motion.
“Even if your body is irretrievable for whatever reason, the Wangsheng Funeral Parlor will deem your casket full after I guide your soul.”
The atmosphere visibly shifts after she speaks. The room darkens as the lanterns flicker, her back lowers in a familiar position as a cold phantom touch caresses your hand.
“You of all people should know why and how I'm able to guide souls. After all, I wouldn't expect anything less from an Oracle of the Creator.”
A crooked grin makes its way to your face as goosebumps raise on your skin. Hu Tao’s ‘threatening’ words of knowing your identity were like the sweetest song to your ears.
Finally, all your hard work in creating connections and stabilizing your identity has paid off. Acolytes you've barely begun conversing with already see you as an Oracle.
“Should I applaud you or something, Director? Or should I just accept the deal and make us both happy?”
Hu Tao laughs at your words as you take confident strides to stand by her side.
“I would appreciate the second option much more!” Signature flower pupils drink your smiling visage in with delight before her hand grasps yours in a tight hold.
“Now, if you will, I'll introduce all these amazing coffin and casket types for you to ask about and choose between.”
There's no time to protest, not that you would as she pulls you along excitedly as butterflies made of Pyro brush against your cheek.
------------------------------
Somehow you and Hu Tao had managed to look at every single coffin type in existence. A style, color and even additional design to it has already been decided.
You're just left with choosing the best wood for it.
Hu Tao wanted to stay with you throughout the whole process, but an important matter came up again, making her complain loudly as she left.
But before she did, she insisted on sending one of her employees to help you in choosing, as ‘the wood is a vital part of the process!’.
So now you're left waiting in the absolutely quiet room, with only the sound of your own breathing accompanying you.
Looking down at the two coffins made of different wood, you waited for this employee. A small smirk played on your lips as you heard the door audibly click shut.
The thumping of shoes coming closer was silent, but the slight hitch of breath gave away how close your new consultant was.
“White cedar wood and Teck wood are both very fine choices. Though I would consider the Catalpa wood two rows down to be the best choices considering your position.”
Hot air fans your skin as the knowledgeable words spoken in that low timber light your nerves aflame.
Turning around, you look into amber eyes that remain steadfast on your face. His outfit is pristine and there's not a single evidence of the battle he was left to fight on him.
“If that answers your last question for the coffin customization, then would you mind stepping outside with me?”
Waving your hand, you dismiss his words without hesitation. “We can do so after I check out the Catalpa wood you recommended.”
Your head angles to the side to look at him with a teasing grin. “I know it's your retirement, but you of all people should know that rushing a job is never good.”
A long-suffering sigh leaves Zhongli as you walk away to the Catalpa coffin, before he follows you.
More than happy to kill time like this, you feel the wood under your fingertips in a smooth stripe.
“Catalpa wood was and is still often used as an outer coffin for the jade inner coffin that Liyue officials were buried in. Not only can it be carved fluidly, but it is also very resistant to decay, unlike other ornamental wood. Its stability is quite underrated, with only the drying to be a tad problematic. And even that will be for us to deal with.”
Vaguely you wonder if this information was inserted into the game based off China’s own history or if Teyvat really did age throughout many years to build its own history.
“That’s why I recommended this type of wood to you. While you’re not officially a member of the Qixing or other affairs, your position of oracle is enough to warrant such a valued coffin.”
“Are you trying to convince me to buy it for your job, or are you trying to flatter me for your proposal?”
“You may see it as both, neither, or one of the two. I'm simply here as the consultant. I am to assist you with all of your decision-making inside this building.”
A huff of laughter leaves you before you tap on the casket. “Then I'll go along with what you want and take this wood.”
Zhongli nods, not bothering to write it down as his memory must be far greater than you care to imagine.
His gloved hand is displayed to you in a silent question, but before you can move, he removes the glove.
Quizzically, you raise an eyebrow before placing your hand on his now bare one. Peering at his face from your place you note the slightest blush on his otherwise composed expression.
Smiling to yourself, you allow his fingers to intertwine with your own as he guides you out of the side door. Following him blindly up the staircase, past a set of rooms, another staircase till you finally arrive at the roof.
Zhongli squeezes your hand one last time, clearly relishing in the touch of your calloused fingertips before letting you go.
“I've waited patiently for you, Y/N. What is your answer to my marriage proposal?”
His eyes stare at yours with unshakable firmness. In a sense, it's endearing, and you make it clear by smiling widely.
“It's a no from me.” That resolute expression cracks and his mouth drops open before it's slammed shut at your bright laughter.
But even his poorly concealed embarrassed expression can't smother the blood rushing to his cheeks as his ears hang onto every addictive note that leaves your lips.
This has taken a long time. Like super long. I haven't dropped this series, just have lots of school work to complete and exams to study for. Like I literally have one tomorrow. My editor did me a solid and highlighted the parts that I had to fill in after I gave the mostly completed document for editing. When I have to write the next chapter, it'll take a bit as I gotta reread for recalibration. Taglist is open as always!

Pairing: Xavier Thorpe x Fem!Siren!reader
Warning: 18+ MDNI, smut, mention of siren powers, Xavier isn’t that obsessed with Wednesday here, language, fwb, Dom!Xavier, light spanking, piv, slight breeding kink?, reader is on birth control, not edited, not my best work
A/N: new obsession is Xavier Thorpe/Percy.. anyways this is my first Wednesday oneshot
-
-
Xavier has been in a mood all of today, everyone knows that Wednesday isn’t his date to the Rave’N anymore. I was going to ask him but Bianca beat me to it.
I have nothing against Bianca. Xavier and I were only friends with benefits before and after they dated. I actually was the one who introduced them to each other, that was a mistake.
Now here I am dressed in all white alone with everyone else, except Wednesday of course. She was doing some dance moves that I’ve never seen before, she caught everyones attention. She even caught mine even though I was nested by the punch bowl.
All of the sudden in the corner of my eye, I see Bianca push away her seat next to Xavier. I took that as my opening, I filled another cup with punch and walked over to where he sat.
“What’d you say to make her mad?” I questioned as I held out the cup of punch to his face, taking the seat where Bianca sat. He took the punch and kept his eyes focused on the girl dressed in all black.
“Asked her to make me forget about her” I knew he was talking about Wednesday, I rolled my eyes at it.
“Hmm I’ll do it.” I said monotonous.
He turned around in his seat, his body facing me. “You’re joking. You’re not supposed to take off your amulet on campus.”
“Did you already forget that I’m never the type to listen to rules? But if you’re serious then I’ll do it.” I shrugged my shoulders.
He turned his head to look at Wednesday talking to her date Tyler. “Let’s get out of here.” he looked at me with tiredness in his eyes, he wasn’t doing good on hiding how much he hated parties.
“But, if we do this we are doing this under my conditions. Okay?” I held out my hand.
“Yeah yeah.” he gave me a soft smile as he shook my hand.
I didn’t let go of his hand, I stood up and pulled him up with me. I walked towards the exit of the dance, dragging his body behind me. Bianca scoffed and rolled her eyes when we passed by her.
“Where are we going?” he questioned.
“You’re room.” I chuckled.
“Why?” he said playfully as he pulled my arm back to him so I wasn't dragging him, now we’re walking next to each other.
“What? If you want to forget then I can’t do my siren shit on you with Weems there.” I looked up at him. His body always towered over me even with the heels I’m wearing.
“Always looking out for us.” he whispered, thinking that I didn't hear him.
“Yeah, I was always a good look out whenever we would y’know.” I poked him in the side, earning a chuckle and a sarcastic middle finger.
We finally reached his room. He quickly opened it and let me in before closing the door.
He quickly took off his blazer and shoes, leaving him in his button up and dress pants. He flopped on his bed while I struggled with taking off my heels. Once I got my heels off, I flopped onto the bed next to him.
“God I hated that.” I sighed out.
“I should’ve just stayed in” he dragged his hands over his face.
We laid in silence, almost falling asleep until I remembered by I brought him here.
“So do you want to forget?” I sat up leaning on my elbow, my other hand playing with my amulet on my neck.
“Don't use your powers, make me forget a different way.” his eyes were blown with lust. The color is gone from his eyes, it’s just filled with black. I knew this look, I have it engraved in my mind.
“Are you sure?” I asked. This seriously wasn't on my agenda for tonight.
He brought his hand to the back of my neck, his mouth fanning over my ear. My heartbeat hasn’t beat this fast in months.
“Make me forget.” he whispered into my ear, leaving a peck behind the shell of my ear.
He laid back down and I immediately threw my leg over him, straddling his hips. My hands cradled his face as I brought my lips down to his. Our tongues danced together as my hips moved against his hips. His pants tight on him now, his zipper catching against my clothed clit.
I moaned into his mouth. “Fuck I missed this.” I whimpered out as I caught my breath.
“Take off that dress.” he huffed out.
I hopped off of him and unzipped my dress while he unbuttoned his shirt and pulled off his pants. Both of us were standing half naked, I’m just in my bra and panties while he was just in his boxers.
He quickly walked over to me, his hand grabbing the back of my neck. He twisted me around and lightly pushed me agains the bed, forcing me onto my stomach.
His hand swatted my ass, the sting and impact making me groan into his bed sheet.
“Such a pretty ass” he lowered himself to leave kisses on the cheek he slapped, soothing it with his lips.
He stood back up, his body leaning against me as he peppered kisses along my back. His bulge pressed against me, I wiggled my hips to signal that I wanted more.
“C’mon Zay, fuck me already!” I whined out.
“Alright alright, always so eager.” his fingers circled around my clothed core. “God you’re so wet for me.”
He lowered his boxers that revealed his cock and that angry red tip. I turned my head to see that he used his hands to pump him before moving to my core. His fingers moved my thong out of the way.
His tip rubbed at my core, lubricating itself before sliding into me. There was a slight stretch from the girth.
He groaned at the feeling of me tight around him as he bottomed out. His pelvis warm against my ass.
“Move” I told him.
He brought his hips back, leaving just the tip in me then he thrusted into me. He repeatedly did this. His hand weaving through my hair to get a good grip. He pulled on my hair as his hips pistoned in and out of me. The sound of skin slapping filled the room.
“Oh fuck im gonna cu-” I tried my hardest to speak.
He grunted with each movement.
“Fuck! you feel so good! Im gonna cum baby!” he never cared how loud we were.
“Cum in me baby” I forced out a mumble.
The feeling in my stomach tightened and his hips were stuttering.
“Right there baby” I clawed at his bed sheets.
His best was against my back while moved faster, trying to get both of us to that euphoria. His lips tickling the shell of my ear.
“Oh god!” I screamed into the sheets. He stilled inside of me as he groaned, his warm cum filling me. My body shook with sparks flying throughout my body.
Once we calmed down, he pulled out of me. The mixture of our cups dripped out of me which he quickly placed my thong back in place.
“Can’t let that leak out” he chuckled as he placed me higher up on the bed, laying down next to me and pulling the blanket over us.
“So… Wednesday huh?” I tried to make playful banter.
“Who’s Wednesday?” he chuckled as he pulled me into his body.

Clear versions + rambling under the cut

The mind control thing could've been cool if it was LITERALLY mind control not just "Garroth Ro'meave gets no bitches" syndrome. It would make more sense too with his character arc.
He finally gets comfortable in phoenix drop with showing his face and having this new big family with the guards and aphmau. He can finally be himself.
But then the pendants start acting up ; there's threats of war and Dante's being secretive. His paranoia starts acting up. But he's got his friends and he knows as long as he's with them, it's going to be ok.
During the baby shower he cools off but then he sees something. He chases after the evil undertale looking bitch but then he sees something. Saw something he wasn't supposed to see. That's all he can remember at least.
But as he's making his way back he keeps hearing things, seeing things. It's almost like he can feel something at the back of his mind, digging into his skull , eating at him.
Over the next few days his mind is hazy with thoughts of okh'assis, muddled memories and regrets. He can hear his brother in his head whispering about how foolish it was to hide away from them. He had no chance escaping his own blood. By the time he snaps out of it he noticed he's moved. Right to the edge of the walls with his communication amulet.
The haziness and whispers just keep getting worse and worse and so does his grip on reality. He can feel the chilly okh'assis air in the middle of summer. He keeps seeing things in the trees watching him. Cadenza tells him he looks paler than usual.Lillian arriving just makes it worse. Eventually he locks himself in his room saying not a word to anyone.
He can't eat, can't sleep , won't even close his eyes.Refusing to let them win. All he can do is listen; sounds of reality and delusion mixing into a buzzing living nightmare. All he wants to do is to help Phoenix drop. But when he looks in the mirror all he can see is the same pale , snowy haired boy who left Okh'assis. Maybe he never left?
IDK I'm a sucker for battle inside the mind plots as well so I'd pay to see jury of nine garroth get dropkicked by regular garroth but serious lol get reckt whoreless scrub

Okay hear me out, because I have a theory.
Morro is from the cloud kingdom.
We know (or are at least pretty sure) that certain elements are native to certain realms. So what if wind is native to the cloud kingdom (I know this throws some wrenches in Wojira but ignore those until I overthink them away).
So Morro was born in the cloud kingdom, and the writers of destiny wiped his memories and cast him out when he developed powers. So when Wu, found him, he didn’t know he had powers and didn’t know where he was from.
This also explains why Morro was able to defy destiny. He was supposed to be a writer of it. Writers of destiny can be written about (hence the memory wipe), but it’s also a lot easier for them to defy destiny.
So when Morro’s power moved on, it went back to the Cloud Kingdom, but season five had such an effect on the place, that their power started falling apart and they practically became a joke.
I personally hc that they DID have the power to write destiny. Remember when Zane got his voice back because it was written? And then the writing on Dareth’s scroll turned red when Jay spilled the ink?
How can that all happen if the writers never had any power? Maybe the merge actually did screw things up! Maybe Morro’s actions caused a butterfly effect that drove them to irrelevancy?!
All I’m saying is that there’s no way they were useless from the start.
But if Morro was from the cloud kingdom, it makes it so much cooler that he swayed Fenwick over to his side. Fenwick probably recognized him and was like “Oh sh-t, this guy that was kicked out decades ago is back.” (I’m not gonna try to put a time on this, it’s up to interpretation if Fenwick was the one that kicked him out or if Fenwick came into power later)
Then it makes sense that Euphrasia was the one that got Morro’s power. She comes from the same place! Morro probably didn’t choose Euphrasia to give the power to, it was probably his element’s choosing. It was sick of not being welcomed in its own realm, and it knew that needed to be changed.
Alright, so I know there’s holes in this theory, but considering how many holes there are in Ninjago lore, I feel like the holes make it even more believable.
Thank you for coming to my TedTalk
Okay it’s been a few hours since I typed this and I thought of something. Wojira being solely wind and water never made sense to me. I mean- she has the storm amulet and the sea amulet. Storms are more than wind and the sea is more than water. Yes, those two elements are arguably the most influential in the amulets. But what about storm being wind, water, and lightning? Maybe the sea is water, and nature?
So maybe those elements played a hand in creating the amulets, but the reason only Nya’s power was acting up is because her element was the most connected to it? Maybe when all that happened is when Morro’s powers finally moved on!
Thanks again for coming to my TedTalk

Part 1: The Love Square. Why it worked, and why it failed.
People who aren’t as interested in Magical Girls as I am, specifically Magical Girl Animes with Romance, may not understand why the Love Square was such a big deal. Why it was the core; the life of the series.
Okay, so how many times have you seen a love triangle unfold? Quite many, I must guess. Some really good, and some, uhm, not so much.
In Magical Girl Animes they’re common – and the most popular ones have one very particular dynamic. Let’s run down it, shall we?
Our main character falls in love with another man, someone unreachable, unattainable. It’s someone she genuinely looks up to, and is most likely popular already.
I call this character “The Prince”
Tumblr media
In Princess Tutu, it’s Mytho. In Shugo Chara it’s Tadase. In Tokyo Mew Mew it’s Aoyama. Sailor Moon has Motoki Furuhata in Season 1, and Mamoru in Stars.
He is the type of guy you want to fall in love with. Nice, kind, good-natured, a good leader, pretty and everything.
There’s one issue, though. The person who our Main Character’s crush likes is not her, but her alter ego. Mytho is in love with Tutu, not Ahiru, Tadase is in love with Amulet Heart not Amu. The one she becomes thanks to super natural magic.
Then, there’s the opposite. I like to call them the “Rebel” character.
Tumblr media
You know who I’m talking about. The Ikuto, the Kishu, the Fakir or even Seiya of the story. They serve to be a contrast to the “Prince”. They’re often times, the only one who gets to see through the MC’s disguise and comes to understand her. “Rebel” characters are rarely in love with alter ego, but instead feel attraction to the MC or the “real one”
These are all fan favourites characters that fall under the “Bad Boy” trope. And for good reason.
Bad boy characters are popular with little girls, teen girls, women or even AFAB people in general since they call out something in our society. There’s very real pressure put forth by either parents or society to adhere to certain gender roles, and what they mean.
In other words, you’re “supposed” to be a good girl.
You have to get good grades, you have to smile all the time, you have to be polite, and you have to play nice. A bad boy character in fiction allows the viewer (in this case and for simplicity) girls to push back or be rebellious in a very safe way.
You don’t have to be good, you’re just following the steps of a bad guy with a heart of gold. He will help you break out of your shell, and be more confident. You get to feel like you’re trying to be the good girl society tells you to be, while finally exploring these darker aspects of your personality.
In YA and more mature books, this can involve anything from trying alcohol, having sex, or allowing oneself to be angry (exploring the “bad” or “not good” emotions AFAB people are always told they shouldn’t have).
But in audiences more aimed towards children, like those in Magical Girl animes, shoujos or tween cartoons, they exist in a more subdued way – although still tapping into this idea of rebellion against the status quo.
That’s why these characters are fan favourites.
So, to summarize. You have the MC in love with a “Prince” who in turn is in love with the Perfect Girl version of the MC. And a “Rebel” who is in love with the Real Version of the MC, flaws and all.
This particular dynamic is used as a thesis of sorts in any good story. Only by understanding both the real and idolized version of the MC can a man can “win” the love of our protagonist. And only by our MC knowing who she is, what her alter ego means, or how she relates to these dichotomies, can she understand herself.
And really, depending on how each show tackles its themes, it can have different answers. Tokyo Mew Mew offers the idea that the Prince is the correct option, while Princess Tutu says it’s not. Then there’s those with open endings such a Shugo Chara. Again, they use the dynamic, the thesis of their characters, to come to a conclusion that neatly ties to the theme.
Princess Tutu, for example, ties the ideal version of Mytho with the tragedy of a fairytale. Ahiru has to let go to be able to reach a conclusion. In Tokyo Mew Mew Ichigo sees her flaws (the cats ears) as something someone as perfect as Aoyama could never love – yet he shows he isn’t perfect and that he loves her with or without the perceived flaws she has.
That said,
It’s exactly why I loved Miraculous Ladybug when it first aired. It managed to boil down this interesting dynamic into the Love Square. The perfect and the real, the idolized and the true.
Tumblr media
Ladybug represents the perfect version of Marinette. Adrien represents the perfect version, while the real one is Chat Noir. Chat was both the “Bad Boy” and the “Prince” all in one. Both Marinette and Adrien were in love with the “Perfect” or Idolized version of each other.
This was something never before seen. It would make for amazing content, right? Explore why we prefer an idolized version of someone, realize that true love means caring even when you’re not perfect. What our perceived “flaws” meant to others, and if they were truly flaws – or if our environment was the one teaching us they were. The possibilities and themes were limitless. We could have had something great-
No.
Sorry, we. We didn’t get that.
What we got were padded episodes, new love interest that refused to deal with this complexity, and a stagnant rship that refuses to explore any of the flaws of their characters - why they’re not perfect, or even a reason why they stay in love
This is why the Love Square fails. This, is the core of why and how it works. People can expand upon this in million different ways, but you inevitably come back to this.
The real and the idolized. The want vs the duty. The expectations and the responsibilities.
Instead of having an episode where Marinette realizes that Adrien isn’t perfect, that he isn’t a model 24/7 or that he has flaws, secrets and fear just like anyone else, we got Kagami.
Instead of Chat realizing that Ladybug isn’t perfect, that she isn’t always composed, that it’s just a persona put forth to feel more in control of a situation, we got Luka.
Both characters that I love, but they bring very little to the themes the Love Square was introducing, to begin with!
More focus should have been put in how these two bounce off each other.
How much better would the story had been if we got to see Marinette and Chat have a conversation? The two very flawed, very real, very confusing version fo these characters, just trying to understand each other.
And by the way, this is exactly why MariChat is the most popular dynamic.
Marinette acts like a girl. Scared, confused, and lonely. She isn’t a hero, she isn’t her perfect version. She is just Marinette. While she can put the mask on, at the end of the day, it’s still just a mask. And Chat? Well, we get to see him. Not the model, not the paper cut out, but a silly kid who wants to break free from a life of imprisonment by the parent who’s supposed to love him.
We get to see something real.
But, unfortunately we do not get that.
Their relationship stays static. The reason for this is a bit obvious.
The writers, to my opinion have come to this bizarre conclusion:
Developing this dynamic would mean changing dynamics, ending the status quo morphing the story into something new. And they assume a “new” means an “end”.
They’re thinking that the endgame is Adrien and Marinette realizing their identities, so they don’t wanna develop it for fear of bringing an ending “too close”.
Say you have 7 seasons prepared, you can't have them find out their identities in season 5 because their reveal should be in season 7. It should be the last couple of episodes even. After that, they'll date and it's over. So better drag this on for seasons on end.
This just proves to me: flawed writing skills and lack of direction.
WHICH wouldn’t surprise me seeing how Chloe ended up.
It is plain bad writing. Changing stuff doesn’t necessarily mean an endgame is near. It just means things are changing.
I’ll be mean to this series and compare it to the Magnus Opus of Magical Girls: Sailor Moon
Tumblr media
Sailor Moon got together with Tuxedo mask in the first season, yet the writers were able to up the steaks of their relationship through its 5-season run: Through memory loss, a long distance romance, anxieties of hurting one another, or simply…developing their relationship. People change. And so does how they interact with other people.
These created amazing episodes that highlighted how much Usagi and Mamoru loved and cared for each other. It wasn’t just chance, it wasn’t just fate. This took work, it took time, and it took trust. This wasn’t something so easily lost. That’s why SailorMoonStars hits the hardest.
In the very last season, Usagi is in a long distance rship with Mamoru. And it breaks her. We see that she misses him, dealing with the turmoil of him not answering her messages. She’s devastated, seeking comfort in other people, but unable to forget him. Not even as Seiya begs her to take him instead of Mamoru, can she bring herself to give him up– because they’ve been together for a long, long time. And we’ve seen that.
Tumblr media
We see her reminiscent. We see her break down and cry because he hasn’t called her. We see her thinking of him when she’s with Seiya. We see her be in love with him and we see how much it affected her that he’s ignoring her.
And by the last few episodes, we get a payoff. We find out Mamoru is dead, and that he died confident that Usagi would be strong enough to protect the Earth in his stead. That he believed in her, and he thought of her until the moment he died - uttering her name as the last thing he could do.
That’s why when Sailor Moon defeats Sailor Galaxia, the woman who killed the man she loved, through purification and not violence – it all feels right.
It’s a very simple but powerful story, packaged in 45 episodes. With enough room to breathe, digest it, but not drawn out enough for it to be annoying.
All this, when the relationship was already established. We could have had something like this in Miraculous Ladybug, if the writers WERENT drawing out the reveal and get together until the very last second!
ChatBlanc could have been an AMAZING multi-episode mini-arc.
Tumblr media
No time-travel thing. They find their identities, they date for a few episodes, something goes horribly wrong, and Marinette has to find a way to fix the mistakes she's made. Much like Sailor Moon R.
Maybe by the end of it, she fixes it but sacrifices most of her memories. The only thing she recalls is that she knew Chat's identity, Paris almost got destroyed, and that leads to her putting distance between them.
Or maybe one day she wakes up with the memories of Chat Blanc and spends and entire season trying to know what happened, and when she does, she's horrified.
Idk, million amazing things could have been done with this episode to further develop these two's relationship. Complex, interesting, beautiful things.
But no. Because, apparently, thinking of love post-reveal is too much. Instead, we watch them run and run in circles. Chat Blanc was a single episode, and half of it was time travel shenanigans.
And all of this, just because the writers don’t actually know what they want to do with the love square. So they add new rivals, new teams, new accessories, side plots - all to avoid touching the actual core of what made the series great.
It strongly reminds me of Star vs. in that scenario the creators also weren’t sure where to take the show.
Tumblr media
It wasn’t until season 2 where they started the subplot of Star realizing Mewni colonized Monsters that it started having a sense of self. And it showed in the romantic subplot, which was all over the place. They didn’t know what they wanted, so the romance in that show was a mess. Lack of direction and intention, aside from the knowledge that Star and Marco were the end game
I personally don’t hate Star vs. I don’t like how it handled romance but I will give it much leeway because the actual plot of Intergenerational conflict and coming to terms with the harm your ancestors have done to others - is quite compelling and not something I see tackled often.
But Miraculous does not get that. Its episodic plot is simple and refuses to get into the murky waters of its own premise.
The only thing it had going was The Love Square. Because I assure you, very few people give a crap about the Miraculous being stolen.
So, their lack of willingness was the first thing to ruin the Love Square. Fine.
But it’s not the nail on the coffin. The real reason why this suffered, was something that happened waaaay before all this.
Because one thing that the show refused to explore up until late into season 3 and start of season 4 was the specific parts of the “Ladybug” character. What I mean is, what “ideal self” she is as “Ladybug”. And how her existence affects Marinette. This is the fundamental flaw that issss...

I've got kind of a big dilemma here. I've always assumed i was sapio and just strange. I've never liked lying, and I have some weird allergies so my diet's pretty low sodium and we don't have cast iron pans but other than that my life has been pretty "typical", for lack of a better word. But I graduated last year, so my parents were going through baby pictures, and my dad pulled one out I'd never seen before from the day I was born and the baby in the photo was Not Me. Like one thousand percent definitely not me. I mentioned it, and my mom freaked out and told me not to be ridiculous and buried the picture at the bottom of the box. But I know when I'm being lied to, and there is no way that's a picture of me. And the other day I got a box in the mail that smelled like pine sap and lilacs and the ground after it rains, and there was a letter and a stone with a perfectly round hole in it inside. I'm adopted, apparently, and the stone is supposed to help me see hidden things until my eyesight improves. My bio family has invited me to a party on the spring equinox so I can meet them. But I have this sinking feeling that if I go they're not going to let me go back home? I love the parents who raised me and I don't want to leave them, but I do also want to meet my bio family and my "twin" (the baby from the picture who I guess is about my age now?). Do you have any advice for how to set the proper boundaries with my bio family so I can meet them without losing the life I've been raised in?
I'm afraid I don't quite follow your thinking here, reader.
Infant substitution is practised in a variety of different cultures on this plane of existence and several others. Without more information about your biological family's background, I am hesitant to make any sweeping proclamations about their specific practices. That said, I see no reason in your letter to assume they are planning a spot of interplanar kidnapping to usher in the equinox.
There are a few tangible signs they might not be being entirely honest about their intentions - if they are insisting you wear specific clothing and jewellery for the event (undyed, natural fibres, for example, or a crown of columbine and foxglove) or if they are at all cagey about the details of any rituals and ceremonies involved in the celebration, for example.
But without these red flags, I'm afraid you may be falling victim to nothing more or less than a rather pernicious strain of anti-liminal scaremongering.
By all means, ask your relatives about any etiquette you might need to be aware of, and whether the event will include a formal refutation of obligatory reciprocity. These perfectly ordinary things to take into account before travelling to another realm. Indeed, if your biological family shows any reluctance in answering, that might be another red flag.
Beyond these formalities, though, you run the risk of causing serious offence if you show up at the equinox celebrations with pockets full of salt and breadcrumbs, refusing to eat or drink and festooned in protective amulets.
With all due kindness and respect, I urge you to consider where these ideas and anxieties have their roots. Regardless of your true genus, you have been raised in a profoundly sapio-centric society. We are none of us immune to the prejudices and preconceptions taught to us by the society we're steeped in.
But we do have a choice about if and how we carry those ideas with us in the future. Take the time to educate yourself on infant substitution in general and, if possible, on your biological family's culture in particular. I think you'll soon find these fears are unfounded.
Finally, please, don't be too hard on yourself for internalising these misconceptions. We can't help the world we were raised in or the assumptions it taught us. But we do have the power to unlearn those harmful patterns of thought, and to work together to create a better present.

HAL Laboratory really enjoys their attack moveset symbolism, huh?
Just to preface this, major spoilers for the ending of Magolor Epilogue below the cut!
A week or so back, while playing Kirby’s Return to Dreamland Deluxe, I had finally beaten Magolor and (perhaps against my better judgment) proceeded to play through the entirety of the Magolor Epilogue gamemode in one sitting. But hey, it paid off, as the revelation of the Master Crown was INCREDIBLE and the ending was sweet. Though, during that fight against the Master Crown, a very particular attack stood out to me the moment I saw it. From there, I began to notice more and more little details, and thus, I think that the Master Crown and Marx are more connected than we thought.
The attack I’m talking about, of course, is the one where it drops small seed-shaped gems and sprouts twisted vines to try and impale you. Sound familiar?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
As far as I can recall, these two are the only ones to have an attack like this. Now, as mentioned by the title, Kirby bosses are very often hinted to have some sort of a connection just through attack patterns. The Soul bosses for instance, with their movesets sampled from each other.
Soul bosses… hey, didn’t Void Termina also share an attack with Marx?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And, didn’t Void Termina summon a replica of the Master Crown for one of its own attacks?
Tumblr media
Also, partially unrelated, but in the image above, the wings on the crown are that of a dragon, but during the Master Crown’s fight in Magolor Epilogue they appear to be more bird-like. Just something I thought was a little interesting.
Tumblr media
Moving on, after the vine attack cued me in, I began to pick up on some other details. Another big one is the Master Crown’s WINGS. During the attack where it shoots sharp leaves at you, it rapidly changes color. Much like our favorite Cosmic Jester.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Hm, now that I mention it, while his didn’t change color, Void Termina’s wings share a resemblance to Marx’s with their geometric pattern, too. But, I suppose that’s old news.
Another little thing I noticed was the shape of the leaves that the Master Crown shoots out. I know, this might be a bit of a stretch, but they’re shaped like spades. Much like the tip of a certain someone’s wings.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Speaking of those wings, I think that just in general they share a resemblance to Marx’s. Something about the way they’re shaped…
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Not to mention, of course, how both are golden (though his Smash Brothers render is… less so).
Speaking of those wings again, the offshoots of the wing branch strike me as interesting as well. The way they curl… almost reminds me of something else.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Marx Soul amulet! Not only that, but the shape is similar to Marx Soul’s alulas(?) as well!
Tumblr media
I suppose these two were always connected in some form (Marx is connected to Galactic Nova, Galactic Nova is connected to the Ancients, the Ancients are connected to the Master Crown…) but to finally see an actual clear relation between them is very nice! With just how many things this one jester is linked to, I wouldn’t be surprised if the games were building up to something with him… But that’s just wishful thinking!

Chapter 39... it was only supposed to be 40 chapters in total but THAT got away from me quite quickly. We are probably looking at 50 chapters by the time this one is complete... but we are getting there! (photo credit from S1 of the show).
Rated E and mind all tags and warnings. There are marked versions of chapters that do NOT have spice, but the story overall does have some difficult storytelling of torture in Hell.
The story itself is a post S2 fic that goes into deeper storylines of who Maggie is, how she is relevant and important to Aziraphale, and digs into the characters and side stories more deeply.
Chapter 39 of After the Ascension: "Crowley returns to the bookshop and tells stories to the humans to pass the time keeping them entertained, and keeping his mind off of Aziraphale the best that he can until the Antichrist and the Second Coming find out something very important while experimenting with the amulet that Agnes Nutter left for Anathema.
This allows for old friends to make their way back to Earth and Crowley is able to finally go after his Angel."
Enjoy!!! If you are new to the story... kudos and comments fuel me!!! I have almost been writing this for a year, there is NO WAY I would not finish it. It WILL be done in the next few months, and I post about every 1-2 weeks depending on how crazy my life is.

Writing Game 1.5: Festival
Prompt: Festival Pairing: Thor/Clark Kent
Tumblr media Tumblr media
"The sigrblót is an important part of our society." Thor explains softly. "It's a celebration of the arrival of summer - the victory of summer over winter."
"Does that have anything to do with historical events? Perhaps military victories against Jotunheim by Asgard?"
Thor gave a soft laugh. "To be quite honest, I do not know. The custom is ancient. And the blót even older than that. For many events, we have a ritual sacrifice - a gift in thanks for our survival. We believe the sacrifice allows us to connect to our lost ancestors and loved ones, so that we may all feast and revel as one."
Clark tilts his head. "From my research, it seems that the Norse of my world - of Midgard - followed similar traditions. Though I've come to realize that their myths aren't exactly a one-to-one account of your people - for example, they said Valhalla was the Hall of the Slain, where the honored dead would remain till Ragnarok. They believed Odin presided over it, whereas you here seem to believe the same thing, except Valhalla and Helheim and Folkvanger are above even you."
Thor thinks a little before he responds. "We believe in the recursive nature of stories, I suppose you might say. Magic, science, legend... they might all be dialects of the same language. Who's to say that we aren't all offshoots of your people's stories? Who's to say they are based on us, and not the other way around? You yourself may be a story. I like to think we share the names of the Midgardians' gods, but truly we are more like them than any of us tend to think."
Clark chuckles as he writes that down verbatim. "That might be a little bit heavy for a travel piece on Asgard for the Daily Planet, but then again, I am angling for another Pulitzer."
"Is the interview complete? May I finally take you to see the festival as a participant and not an observer?"
"A journalist." Clark corrects. "But yes, I have everything I need. I'm at your disposal."
Thor quickly stands from the couch he reclines upon to press a kiss to Clark's brow. "Good. We came to revel! Not simply to work."
Clark grins and lets Thor drag him onto the streets of Asgard, where vendors hawk their wares - though they tend to stop eyeing him as a potential mark when they see their Prince with a hand interlinked with his.
It's at this point that Clark recognizes how much Thor can relax when he feels he belongs somewhere. He smiles so easily as he eagerly pulls Clark towards a stall to try some festival food, so much more at ease than he is on Earth, giving an impression of regality and poise.
Clark doesn't know yet that it's not because of the difference between Earth and Asgard. It's his own growth, but also because Thor truly blossoms in the proximity of someone he loves. That he feels safe enough to show his truest self to Clark is a blessing, for them both.
Thor refuses to allow Clark to get any more work done, giving a playfully stormy glare at even the sight of his phone emerging from his back pocket to record, even a festival song that Thor joined in upon. Clark answers every glare with a kiss, and they are given several little festival tokens - amulets made of woven straw and bits of glass or metal, beautiful tiny woven tapestries, little sculptures - all of Asgard seeming to delight in the happiness of their prince with his beloved.

Hello! What if when Jim used the Khronosphere, he somehow ends up on Camelot Castle with Nari instead of waking in his room?
To make matters worse, he is in his half-troll body and with some help from Nari, finds out he time traveled to a year before Kanjigar falls.
Hi! I really like plans-gone-wrong kind of scenarios!
So, here the time travel is screwed, misplacing Jim and accidentally giving him the body he had at some point in time. Even the burden of knowing about the different timeline is heavy and here Jim has it even worse as there is nearly no one he knows to be by his side and giving the comfort unknowingly.
Jim tells Nari his story (without expecting her to believe him) and surprisingly she believes as the Kronisfere is something only a selected few know about.
After discussing the matter with Nari, Jim decides to go to the Trollmarket and be the onlooker until the right time comes. He still has his new amulet and Excalibur for some reason, and Nari believes that it may help to bring the change.
The trolls at the Trollmarket initially have some mixed feelings about the newcomer, but Jim quickly wins their hearts. He becomes Blinky's assistant at his library. Jim doesn't reveal his amulet though as he isn't sure how trolls will react to it. He also hides his origin, inventing a fake backstory about being from New Jersey.
The first complication starts when Jim realizes that he has bonded with Kanjigar too much and simply cannot let him die now (not to mention that because of Jim's intervention, Draal and Kanjigar finally manage to talk and go back to normal father-son relationship).
Jim's plan ends up to be saving Kanjigar and becoming his helper while trying to make everything work. The thing is - it doesn't work as planned as Jim miscalculates the supposed date of Kanjigar's death (it happens a day earlier).
And there is another thing Jim hasn't considered (or more like deliberately omitted thinking about it) - namely, his own human life. There is only one Jim in this timeline, so from humans' point of view, Jim Lake disappeared a year ago.
Both Barbara and Toby are devastated, never giving up on finding Jim. Strickler is upset too, but unlike Toby and Barbara, he believes that Jim is dead (between Bular, other changelings, and goblins, there are too many possible suspects who love human flesh too much). Strickler meets Barbara when she comes to the school looking for clues. Initially, he helps her with the investigation out of concern that she might stumble upon the supernatural, but gradually falls for her. Barbara starts to have feelings for Walter too and feels guilty for finding her personal happiness while Jim is not around.
Toby, on the other hand, gets close to Eli and starts believing in creeps, suspecting that those might be the reason for Jim's disappearance. Toby tries to stay positive, but deep inside he wonders if his best friend is still alive.
Toby and Eli snoop around a lot. Steve tries to follow them one day for a nasty prank - and ends up learning about the supernatural stuff too. He's still mean to both Toby and Eli, but joins them in their investigation (he is a self-proclaimed leader).
Those investigations lead the boys to the location of Kanjigar's death and Toby picks up the amulet. When Jim discovers that, he is devastated (even though it was his initial plan to have Toby as the Trollhunter). Jim comes to Toby's house together with Blinky and Aaarrrgghh, hoping to be a secret helper.
Toby, however, finds out Jim's true identity really fast. Jim has no choice but to confess, though he omits the time travel part and tells Toby he has no idea why he transformed one day. For now, Toby promises to keep it secret, even though he thinks that Jim should at least tell his mom he's fine.
Eli and Steve become a part of the team early on as Toby kinda drifts away from their previous activities after becoming the Trollhunter and they start investigating why which leads to them discovering everything. Eli is obviously excited to learn more about 'creeps', but Steve is annoyed that he isn't the chosen one. He grows a better person only after getting into several troubles and being saved by Toby and Jim.
Ironically, Steve is the second one to learn Jim's true identity and the first one who finds out about Jim's amulet as Jim is forced to use it to save him. After this, Jim tells the entire truth to his team (which consists of Toby, Eli, Steve, Blinky, Aaarrrgghh, Draal, and Vendel by that point).
There's also an issue regarding the situation with Enrique and his potential kidnapping, and Jim patrols near Claire's house hoping to prevent it. However, he doesn't know that the switch has already happened in this timeline (as Strickler discovered Nomura's Snatch earlier and used it to get himself another subordinate). Claire also starts to notice oddities with her brother earlier, which leads her to discovery of changelings' existence. She lands herself in trouble as she has discovered Strickler's true identity, but as Strickler prefers not to have another misterious disappearance, he just manages to silence her with blackmail. Strickler also uses Claire to investigate who is the human Trollhunter as he himself has no idea.
Claire accidentally notices Jim who is roaming near her house. Initially, she thinks he's one of the bad guys (as she has no idea there are good trolls and assume that all of them are on the same side as NotEnrique and Strickler). That is how Jim learns that he's failed to prevent another one of events he would rather avoid and Claire realizes that not every troll is evil. She propose the alliance and suggests leaking info on Strickler to Jim's team. While Jim is slightly reluctant at first (not wanting to endanger her life needlessly), he remembers that Claire is competent and smart enough so her plan should work.
Claire, however, tries to go beyond her initial plan and ends captured. Strickler uses her as the bait to lure the Trollhunter. There's the clash between the two sides. Jim fights Strickler, but (obviously) refuse to kill him, so Strickler escapes. Meanwhile, the rest of the team deals with Bular and Nomura. Bular is killed, and Nomura is captured.
While Strickler is out of Arcadia, and the team is planing entering the Darklands to save Enrique, Jim decides to contact Douxie and recruit him to the team. Douxie agrees after learning about everything and starts to teach Claire.
Jim isn't that worried about Strickler most likely freeing Angor as his plan is to have a proper talk with his teacher and set everything straight. Besides, Jim is sure that Strickler won't do anything dumb like using the binding spell in this timeline (as he has no idea that the half-troll who defeated him is Jim).
However, Jim hasn't considered that Strickler feels cornered and rather paranoid because Gunmar won't be kind to him and he has no tight bonds with the current Trollhunter Toby. Strickler believes that he is on his own now - and there's nothing to lose, so he is even more hostile and manipulative than in the original timeline, but it also leads to more missteps - including Angor getting free on his own and Barbara discovering Walter's secret.
Angor is deadset on killing Strickler, and only Jim's involvement stops him. Angor agrees that now that he's free, he has no reason to act like a villain and leaves to sort his feelings. Strickler is indebted to Jim though he still has no idea why this odd youngling has saved him. Jim has no choice but to tell him everything in hope to earn his trust.
Barbara is another person who figures Jim's identity herself. Initially, she is seriously upset that her son hasn't come to her once the transformation happened, but she forgives Jim eventually.
Now, that everyone is together in this, there is some thorough planning regarding the mission to the Darklands. After all, Enrique isn't the only one they will save, but other familiars too. Besides, they plan to talk to Dictatious and make him remember how he used to be (Blinky already knows about the situation and had enough time to make peace in his mind with this fact).
Strickler contacts other members of the Janus Orders (those who he believes to be willing to change sides) and warns them that they will lose their familiars soon. However, he misgudges some and those find the way to contact Gunmar and warn him too. Obviously, Gunmar doesn't care about the changelings, but for him it looks like the perfect opportunity to escape. He also has an ally in Usurna - and it turns out that some trolls at the Trollmarket would rather pick Gunmar's side too.
So, when the team marches into the Darklands, there is a riot at the Trollmarket and Vendel is imprisoned. The Trollhunters seemingly meet no resistance at the Darklands (minus several Gumm-Gumms and goblins) and save the familiars, but can't locate Dictatitious (as he isn't there at the moment). After some thinking, they decide to go back for now and return for the second time (as everyone is sure they have been stealthy enough).
Meanwhile, Gunmar has passed through the bridge with a good chunk of his elite forces and is greeted by his supporters who have control over the Trollmarket. So, when the Trollhunters are back from the Darklands, they get a nasty surprise. They manage to escape only because Claire summons a shadow portal (it's the first one for her in this timeline as she has learned different magic from Douxie). The lack of practice shows here and Morgana gets a link to Claire's mind.
Jim knows that Morgana can be redeemed but feels conflicted when he sees that Claire goes through the events leading to her possession for the second time (it's something he would rather prevent). Not to mention that Angor isn't that willing to forgive Morgana.
Jim contacts Nari, hoping that she might have an idea how to help Claire, but Nari admits that shadowmancy is beyond her competence (actually, beyond everyone's but shadowmancers). Jim decides to propose Morgana to possess him instead as he thinks that he might have a better resistance (spoiler: he hasn't).
Morgana uses Jim's body to come and bargain to Gunmar, reminding him about their alliance.
Meanwhile, Claire and Toby with Angor's assistance go to the shadow dimension to save Jim. On their way, Claire has a fight with Morgana and barely manages to win due to some quick thinking. Toby, Claire and Angor reach Jim and manage to break him out of the possession.
The team decide to fight Gunmar before Morgana starts the Eternal Night. The clash happens at the Trollmarket (some former members of the Janus Order, trolls from different clans and some local wizards come to help too).
After the fight is won, Jim realizes that they still need to reach Merlin and think about the further actions against the Arcane Order. And well, when Merlin is awake and learns about the time-travel, he isn't happy as he thinks that messing with the time has already lead to some horrifying consequences. He also isn't happy to learn that Jim still hopes to free Morgana and refuses to cooperate (which change nothing as Claire steals his staff).
Jim tries to talk with Morgana for the second time after she is free, trying to appeal to her former ideas about co-existence and asking if she actually wants to have the world destroyed. It works this time.
The team also contacts Aja and Krel when they arrive to the Earth, finally reuniting with the rest of the guardians and forming the united front. Together, they have less trouble dealing with Morando and later, Green Knight. Nari sees it as an opportunity to talk to Bellroc and Skrael and appeal to their common sense as the times have changed and humans proved to be able to co-exist with inhuman beings. Bellroc and Skrael are still skeptical but agree to wait and see.
As the peace is reached, Claire joins efforts with Morgana in the attempt to find the solution for Jim (and to some extent all the changelings who changed sides) to change forms and be able to enjoy human life.

"You're the smartest person I know."
Type: Fanfiction
Fandom: Mortal Kombat
Characters: Lui Kang, Raiden
The crackling fire felt warm on Lui Kang’s skin. He had his eyes closed, enjoying the peace of the Fire Temple. A soft smile unconsciously crossed his lips, alone in the quiet comfort of this New Era.. At least...until recently.
He was brought out of his trance by a knock on the door. He slowly blinked his eyes open, turning his head at the door’s direction slowly.
“You may enter.”, he spoke, giving the person behind the door permission to enter.
The soft smile on his face remained as the one knocking revealed himself.
“Raiden, my friend. How have you been?”
The younger man walked further inside. Lui Kang got up from his sitting position as Raiden finally stopped a little further away from him, giving a respectful bow.
“Lord Lui Kang. I hope this isn’t a bad time.”
“It is not, Raiden. Though my plate is almost always full, I can always make time for you.”
 Raiden nodded.
“I wish to consult with you, Lord Lui Kang.”
This brought back memories of the Raiden from the previous timeline, which made Lui Kang both fond of the memories of his old mentor, and saddened by their distance. Nevertheless, he smiled and nodded back.
“Of course. What would you like to talk about?”
Lui Kang knew Raiden would not ask advice about the Tournament, that already happened. It could not be about his issues with his emotions either, he usually confides to Kuai Liang for that. So that left few possibilities for what his Chosen One would want to ask him.
“Sit with me.”, Lui Kang asked, him and Raiden sitting in front of the burning fire at the center of the room.
Raiden’s breathing eased at the warmth of the flames, exhaling deeply as he closed his eyes.
“You have been training excessively.”, Lui Kang commented.
“I feel like I should be prepared, Lord Lui Kang.”
The god nodded in understanding, “With General Shao and the sorcerers running rampant, I could not blame you, Raiden. It is perfectly normal to be stressed about this situation.”, he turned to Raiden, “But is that why you truly came here for?”
Raiden looked to the flames, their dance reflected in his eyes. He then looked down at his amulet, his fingertips feeling the slight shock of the lighting trapped inside.
 He sighed, “It’s.....everything, I suppose.”
Lui Kang stayed silent, letting Raiden continue.
“It’s not just the Outworlder rogues, but the Lin Kuei as well. I grow even more worried by the day from the thought that people like Fujin, Madame Bo, Kung Lao, Ka-”, he stopped himself before he could finish the last name on the list, earning him a slight eyebrow raise from Lui Kang.
It must have been more obvious than Lui Kang thought, because Raiden turned his head away from him, staring at either the wall or the floor.
“The threat of the Lin Kuei should not worry you.”, Lui Kang said, “Bi-Han might be an incredibly skilled warrior, leading an equally capable clan, but I have faith in both yours and your friends’ abilities. Your sister and Madame Bo included.”
He placed a hand on Raiden’s shoulder, prompting the mortal to look at the god once more.
“As Fujin would say,”, Lui Kang continued, “have faith.”
Raiden smiled at hearing his sister’s words from Lord Lui Kang. The young man felt more calm after this, openly expressing his worries and bottled up stress. Lui Kang could have sworn he had seen a bit of himself in his champion. Is this how it felt like for the previous Raiden?
“-and it’s just...too much! I can’t understand how anyone could handle this!”
“You are Earthrealm’s champion, Raiden. One of the reasons I had chosen you was because of your strong spirit. I know that you are a good person, and emotions like anger and stress are perfectly normal, long as you control them. After all, your range of emotions is was makes you human.”
Raiden exhaled. Not in annoyance, Lui Kang understood, but in relief from getting his frustrations out of his chest.
“Thank you for listening, Lord Lui Kang.”
“Of course, I am always here if you need to consult a friend.”
They stayed silent by the fire for a few more moments before Lui Kang spoke again.
“Though, do allow me to ask, why come to me to talk about this? I have though you would have gone to Scorpion.”
“Well, I know Kuai Liang is mostly busy with the Shirai Ryu, and I wouldn’t wish to disturb him and well.”, Raiden turned to him, “You’re the smartest person I know.”
Lui Kang actually chuckled a bit at that.
“Well. I am no person, Raiden.”

Y/n holded the doorknob to the backdoor of her house until she felt her hot hand would melt the metal under it. After spending a couple days away in a remote part of the woods her memory came back.
Amongst the trees and the darkness, the old spell lifted, allowing all the old memories wash over her like water breaking through a dam. She could finally recall who she really was and why she was there in Arcadia, in the Lake’s home or at least why she thought her father would want her there: to help the first human trollhunter to fulfill his destiny.
All the pieces of her life came back and laid to rest in their designated place, all except one: the night she strayed from her old life to found herself in Arcadia as a child in Barbara’s arms. That rainy night is still foggy in her mind.
Finally, Y/n opened the door to an empty kitchen but to a full living room. Claire’s parents and Toby’s grandmother were sitting on the couch talking with Barbara.
She sighed, relieved, she hadn't figured out what she was going to tell her family about what she uncovered in the last couple of months and more people around could buy her a little more time.
“Hi,” she smiled, quickly walking to the stairs “I don’t want to get too close, I've been camping” Y/n chuckled.
Barbara walked up to her daughter before she could run upstairs.
“You don’t have to lie anymore. I remembered everything. I even put Claire’s and Toby’s parents up to speed” Barbara laughed.
“I’m not lying! You can smell my hair” Y/n smiled.
Barbara looked at her daughter. She could sense something about her was different but she couldn’t quite put her finger on it. Barbara always could read her daughter like the palm of her hand
“Something’s off” she frowned and grabbed her hand.
Y/n looked at her mother’s eyes, the only mother she ever had and gave her a genuine smile “I promise I’ll explain. Just not right now” she looked back at their guests.
Barbara nodded and squeezed her daughter’s hand
“You know that I’m always here, right, sweetie?”
Y/n nodded and let go of her mother’s hand to run upstairs to take a shower.
“I wasn’t finished. That’s deranged!” Blinky’s screams echoed through the hallway.
Y/n slowly opened Jim’s door and poked her head through it. The whole gang was there except for Aaarrrgghh with the new addition, Dictatious.
“You’re saying Jim should destroy his amulet ‘cause you think you saw some old man put a map inside of it?” Toby sounded like he was going to lose his mind.
“It was Merlin” insistes Claire “The key to finding his tomb, to finding his staff, is inside his amulet”
‘Yeah, that’s him’ though Y/n.
“The girl-child may be on to something. The amulet and the staff are connected” said Dictatious.
“Both fueled by the magic of Merlin” said Blinky.
“But if Jim breaks his amulet, he can’t armor up! And if he can’t armor up ‘Goodbye, Eclipse Blade!’ How’s he supposed to kill Gunmar?” Screamed Toby in desperation.
“If we don’t get the staff first, none of that will matter anyway” said Claire
“Maybe I don’t have to destroy the amulet. You said Gunmar has Aaarrrgghh captive?” Jim looked at Dictatious.
Y/n frowned.
“And Aaarrrgghh could be used as an emotional anchor” said Blinky.
“We’d portal jump right to him” said Claire.
“The plan is set. We save Aaarrrgghh and stop Gunmar by any means necessary before he acquires the staff”
“What’s going on?” Y/n entered the room.
“Y/n?” The kids screamed in unison.
“Who is that…?” Asked Dictatious
“Shh” Blinky hit his brother on the head “Y/n, where have you been?”
“Where’ve you been?” Jim hugged his sister tight.
“Yeah, I’ve been texting, I needed…ughh” Toby hugged her and took a step back “You smell awful”
“I miss you too but…Toby is right” Claire grabbed her free hand.
“I was in the woods. Doing some…spiritual work. It's a long story and from what I heard we don’t have time” Y/n scratched Jim's hair that was still hugging her.
“We really do not have any time” said Blinky.
“Do we have time to explain the new accent?” Toby lifted a brow.
“What?”
“You’re madonna-ing”
“I’m not. Shut up” Y/n frowned. Her memories had brought her accent back?
After taking a quick shower, Y/n came downstairs as the trollhunter team were saying their goodbyes.
“I’m coming with” Y/n announced “I’m not letting Blinky unsupervised”
Jim and Toby laughed.
Y/n hugged Barbara tight. Y/n whispered in her mother’s ear
“You’re the best mother I could ever have”
She quickly stood behind Claire before the tears started rolling.
“Part of the spiritual trip?” Jim smiled.
“Something like that” Y/n smiled back.
The five of them jumped through the portal to a dark ruin quickly finding Aaarrrgghh in a stasis trap.
“The work of Angor Rot” observed Blinky.
“Uhm, those are Dwarkstones. If we deactivate the stasis, this place is gonna blow” said Claire.
“Aaarrrgghh, my friend, they’ve used you as bait to kill us” screamed Blinky.
Aaarrrgghh groaned.
“We gotta get him out of there!” Screamed Toby in desperation.
“No, Wingman. You leave” said Aaarrrgghh
“No, we’re not giving up”
“Guys, I’ve got an idea!” said Jim.
Everyone turned to Jim.
“Okay. Toby drops the hammer, we drop into the room below” he points to the ground.
“The hammer’s power and weight might be enough to override the stasis trap or it’ll fail, Toby will disintegrate into nothingness, and we’ll die with the explosion” Blinky explained.
“Cool beans” said Toby.
“Charming” Y/n pated the trolls back.
“Even if it works, what if we drop into something worse?” Asked Claire, fear written all over her face.
“Than this? I’ll take my chances. Tobes, are you ready?” Jim crouched down.
“Ready to possibly kill us all and die in failure? Yeah” he took a deep breath before start running “For Aaarrrgghh”
Jim pushed Toby into the air, giving the hammer enough strength to break the floor and destroying the trap, making the team fall into a dark tunnel of nothingness.
Y/n felt her knees hit the hard floor, she looked up and saw Aaarrrgghh covering them from the rest of the debri falling from the trap.
“Is everyone alright?” Y/n asked once the rain of stones stopped falling.
Jim draw daylight to illuminate the dark room.
“Wingman” Toby threw himself to Aaarrrgghh.
“Wingman” Aaarrrgghh quickly reciprocated the hug.
The group laughed and followed the two, for a moment forgetting where they were.
“What is this place?” Blinky asked
“Smells old” Aaarrrgghh sniffed the humid air.
“Ah!” Toby tried to take a step forward, almost falling into the abyss.
“Remarkable” Blinky looked down “An ancient gyre”
The team went down to investigate the old artifact.
“Why would there be a gyre here?” Jim got into the gyre.
“It doesn’t even have controls” observed Blinky.
Y/n observed the cave with the help of little light that was able to shine through the broken ceiling. She walked around the gyre with a small smile on her face. Of course. She finally recognised the place. It was Douxie’s and her longest task.
“If I break the amulet it will lead us to Merlin’s tomb” Jim said.
Y/n stopped walking through the dark and dusty room, she turned her head back to the sound of her brother’s voice. She ran to the stairs and up to the gyre and saw Jim hit the amulet with Toby’s hammer.
For an instant, a blue light illuminated the room then disappeared as quickly as it came revealing the destroyed pieces of Merlin’s amulet.
Jim kneeled in front of the stone where the pieces rested and picked them up one by one
“No turning back now” he said.
“No turning back” Y/n whispered to herself, as she played with her bracelet.
She felt her stomach turn. She knew from the moment that she crossed that portal that there was no turning back but now, that notion is final. Her old and new life were going to crash and she wasn’t sure how that was going to go. She was nervous. She hasn’t seen her father in nine hundred years and she hasn’t told her friends about her identity yet.
Jim put the blue stone where the controls of the gyre should be and a warm blue light surrounded them, the gyre starting its travel.
Y/n started to breathe a little better as she felt Douxie’s old magic all around.
“If this is fate, I really hope we’re not destined to die” screamed Toby, grabbing Y/n’s hand as the machine started to gain speed.
“Whoa, a hidden entrance” Jim smiled as they crossed the waterfall.
“Yeah, but to where?” Claire walked close behind the trollhunter.
Y/n took a couple steps forward when she saw Toby starting to struggle with his war hammer. She didn’t want to be behind him when the ‘no-magic’ spell got to him.
“Why no war hammer magic?” Toby complained as the artifact fell to the floor.
“No magic here” Blinky translated the sign on top of the door “It appears this hallowed tomb is warded against sorcery”
“My shadow staff doesn’t work either” Claire tried to use her staff in vain.
“Hey, what’s that?” Y/n pointed behind the girl at the giant claw marks that shouldn't be there.
“These claw marks look fresh” observed Claire.
“Hmm. Yes, yes.” Blinky got closer “As if…a struggle”
“Draal” Aaarrrgghh said.
Y/n turned back and saw the troll holding a chain “There's no magic here. He’s free”
“Then we’re not just here for the staff. We can save Draal” Jim smiled at the idea of recovering their friend.

A/n: we’re getting closer to the part that inspired the series!!! Also!!! I fucking!!! Hate!!!! Summer!!!

Tales of Arcadia fic recs-Rise of the Titans fix it edition
This project's been a long time coming and I'm super happy to finish at last. Here we have a compilation of written responses to the complete dumpster fire that was supposed to be the franchise finale for Tales of Arcadia. Now this is not a comprehensive list by any means, just a collection of my personal favorites and what I consider the best fix-it takes of Rise of the Titans, broken down into several categories.
Bits and Pieces-Not full fix its, but some short little one shots and alternate takes that make the worst parts of of RotT easier to swallow.
Let’s Try That Again-Jim uses the Krohnisfere only to go back to earlier parts of RotT, not the entire franchise.
Instinct of Self-Preservation-Undoes Strickler's pointless death and Jim doesn't go back in time.
Remembering and Honoring a Hero-In a world where the Krohnisfere doesn't exist, the city of Arcadia gathers to remember the fallen hero, Toby Domalski.
Hope Overture-Canon compliant Stricklake, in the new timeline Barbara and Strickler are hit with memories they shouldn't rightly have.
Technically canon compliant-These fics don’t contradict any of the events of RotT, rather pick up where RotT left off with the new timeline of Toby being the Trollhunter. In general I'm not a fan of this particular type of fic. RotT was such a mess all around I don't like the idea of building on it, but the stories below are exceptions for a reason. Not only do these fics work as continuations, each of them is enjoyable on their own merits.
Challenging Destiny @pinkytoothlesso11-Picks up where canon left off, but with the twist of Jim and Toby sharing the amulet as co Trollhunters. From there it grows to include wizards, changelings, and Akiridions working together to bring back magic and create a better future for all. Not only is this story fantastic as it navigates the benefits and pitfalls of knowledge of the future, but the buildup to an eventual post-Masquerade world is set up so well. And this might be a continuation of canon but don't let that fool you, this story never misses an opportunity to throw well deserved shade at the source material.
Trollhunters: Becoming yeeterparker-A fun, fast paced romp that has the characters using their knowledge of the future to speedrun though obstacles while flipping the baddies off on the way. And not only are they able to turn some foes into friends, but troll Jim is back and he's here to stay. All the character interactions are so warm and caring, showing their strong bonds with each other in a way RotT wishes it did.
Atlas through the aftermath @atlasthroughtheaftermath-Jim went back in time, but from the very first morning in the past everything starts going wrong. The amulet was never supposed to choose Toby. Now Jim is forced to walk the line between truth and lies in order to use his knowledge of the future to ensure a better outcome. But as things drift further and further from the timeline he knows he finds himself adrift in uncharted waters. If you like fics that go into all the nitty gritty details with heartbreakingly realistic fight scenes and depictions of armor/sword fighting, this is the fic for you.
RotT fix its-Just like it says on the tin folks, fics that are complete rewrites of Rise of the Titans. But with better characterization, plot points that aren't hamfisted, no time travel retcon; and most importantly, no Steve mpreg.
Rise of the Titans-Secundo Ire @nickelwick-Part two in a series already containing a fabulous Wizards rewrite. Follows the same events of Rise of the Titans, only with the characters actually acting in character. But with the twist of someone else wielding Excalibur, and Jim going through a magical problem of his own. Not only do these changes make for a very interesting read but every character, even the minor ones, is well fleshed out and true to their established characters. All coming together to create an incredible franchise finale.
Fall of the Titans @purplerose244 This one's more a character study than anything else, but holy hell what a character study! This story goes through and analyzes each character's perspective and journey as they struggle against the titans, with plenty of Akiridion worldbuilding and a very interesting twist on the Arcane order's lore, and who gets Excalibur. Salty about how Jim-centric RotT was and the lack of compelling character arcs? Give this a read.
Tales of Arcadia: The Final Becoming @nikibogwater-Rather than focusing on Jim, the main arcs center on Douxie and Nari's relationship, but without sidelining any of the other characters. A rewrite that's short and sweet that never fails to deliver an epic finale with a satisfying conclusion.
The Eternal Day:Tales of Arcadia @rikalovesrice-An epic rewrite that really delivers on the promise to unite the worlds of trolls, aliens, and wizards. Along with some fascinating original lore and some killer redesigns of the Titans themselves (art on author's tumblr). Takes the bare bones of RotT and builds an incredible story on them. Brilliantly weaving the worlds of trolls, Akiridions, and wizards together all leading up to a final battle of epic magical proportions and a brave new world on the other side.
Entire series rewrites-Kind of a cheat category, which is why it's the largest, in that technically none of these fics are RotT rewrites. They're au takes on canon, and many of them were well in progress before RotT was released. Some haven't been updated in a while and some are on full blown hiatus, but they're all worth a read and all have been confirmed by the authors that they will be concluding differently than RotT does.
Becoming the Mask @magic-and-moonlit-wings-Possibly one of the most well known fics in the TOA fandom, and for darn good reason. Starts at the very beginning of Trollhunters with the premise, what if Jim was a changeling all along? Not a half-changeling or a sleeper agent, but a full blown self aware member of the Janus Order. An excellent highly detailed read, juggles a large cast of complex characters, and subtly addresses plot holes as they come along with care and attention.
What the Night Brings @blund3r-bust3r-When Jim has a chance encounter with a creature of the night he barely escapes with his life. Now less than human himself, he's introduced to a vast world below his feet full of danger and wonder, and sets churning gears that have been spinning for centuries. A wonderfully dark, fantastical au that stays true to a lot of existing TOA lore while still being very much its own story.
Sunshine through the Clouds aka shameless self promotion @rockymaidenvixen-Through events neither fated nor accidental, at five years old Jim Lake starts transforming into a troll with each sunset, and back into a human at sunrise. An ability both a gift and a curse that he carries with him through his childhood into adolescence. Changing nothing and everything once he's chosen as the Trollhunter (more about this au under the tag "sunshine au" on my blog).
Tulips of Time @avirxy-Starts with the events of Wizards, but with two major twists. Toby falls through the time rift with the rest of the gang, and Claire's the one with a shard of evil in her heart. Really this story does the trio's characters justice in a way Wizards wishes it did. The trio struggles to make their way in Camelot and find their way back to the future, but medieval Camelot is a harsh time for trolls and humans alike, with the line between good and evil getting blurrier by the day. And their greatest threat may just come from within.
A Brief Reliving of Troll Lore @i-am-gun-robot-This one's just getting started, and hasn't been updated in a long time, but is definitely worth a read. Did you enjoy Wizards but hate what it did for the overall TOA continuity? Then this is the fic for you. A very different take on Camelot of the past, with worldbuilding that can be dark, but is so very rich and nuanced.
Blue Moon Rising @tunafishprincess-On indefinate hiatus, but definitely worth a read. A half changeling Jim au with a dark twist. What if Jim was stolen from Barbara and found by the Janus order, and raised by the top changeling himself under the new name Atlas. Atlas though his fate was certain, but then on his first real mission a certain amulet calls a hauntingly familiar name.
Self Determination @appendingfic-A completed series rewrite that diverges from canon very early on. It starts with the premise, what if the Trollhunter was always human? Spinning out and crossing over with multiple other properties colliding on an epic scale. To say any more would spoil some of the truly earth shattering twists and turns this story has going for it. For those put off by all the crossovers this is a Tales of Arcadia story more than anything else, and you can still follow along and get fully immersed without knowing anything about the other properties tied into it.
You can check out my original TOA fanfic rec list here, and @feather-dancer has made several much more comprehensive fic rec lists all compiled here.

This is the Christmas of "media that's really hard to find that I inexplicably got my hands on"
Not-LO related - I am a huge, HUGE fan of Circa Survive. I started listening to them when I was around 16, leading into the years that I would spend learning to navigate the "real world" away from my hometown and family. I fell in love with them immediately with Blue Sky Noise, and I've been following their music ever since. One thing I've been working on collecting is the vinyl collection. So far I have Juturna, Descensus (which I ordered to a new apartment I was moving into and proceeded to take the entirety of my time living there up until the last 2 days before I had to move again when it finally showed up), Two Dreams, On Letting Go, and the single-sided 7" Battle, My Love track that was released as a charity track to aid in Hurricane Sandy relief back in 2012.
Aside from the vinyl albums I'm still missing (Violent Waves, Blue Sky Noise, The Amulet, and Appendage) this particular find was an 7" split they did with mewithoutyou (a band that I've listened to but never really got into, RIP), meaning there's one song on Side A by Circa Survive and one song on Side B by mewithoutyou. And that ONE Circa Survive song is one that you can't find on any official album or released as a single. "Awake in a Dream", which, while not a commonly loved track, is probably one of my favorite Circa Survive tracks of all time.
There is some speculation as to what RPM the track is supposed to be listened to (and with a 7" disc no less) but this is likely the closest to what it's supposed to sound like:
youtube
I decided to give finding this track on vinyl another try. But see, here's the catch - it was only produced on these vinyl splits, only sold at select record stores during Record Store Day back in 2016. This shit ain't even on Spotify, all listening is exclusively done from recordings on Youtube that are, again, speculated over as to whether or not they even sound as originally intended. So I'd have to rely on the used market. I've attempted to do this in the past to no success.
I found it this time. And it came in this morning, after I had almost forgotten I'd even ordered it in the bustle of the holiday season. And it only cost about $40 after shipping from Discogs (these guys rock) which is a pretty fair price to pay for something that only had one limited print run half a decade ago. The only disclaimer on the sale page was that it had "minor corner wear on the sleeve".
Tumblr media
So yeah, pretty damn psyched to own this split now, the hunt is (hopefully) over, assuming that the vinyl itself plays smoothly. The disc is a gorgeous shimmering opaque blue and looks, as its previous owners described it, like it's in very clean practically brand new condition.
Tumblr media
So yeah! As soon as my roommate gets home, I'm gonna lovingly bully her (/j) into helping me set up her sound system with my vinyl player so we can test drive this baby \(≧▽≦)/ (and while I wait I might see about finding a vinyl copy of Appendage because goddamn I need "Lazarus" on vinyl)

“Who is that?” the voice came to you as if through a fog. Your whole body felt like it was weighed down with lead, as though coming out of a particularly deep sleep.
“I-I don’t- I thought-” someone else stammered, and you recognized that voice. Your mind was as slow to wake up as the rest of you, however, so you couldn’t quite place it yet. He called your name, a question, as if unsure of who you really were.
“Ngh, what?” you managed to croak out, feeling like you haven’t used your vocal cords in ages. Finally you forced your eyes open, blinking until they managed to focus.
You were in a cocoon of wood and leaves. A very familiar-feeling cocoon, its life energy connected to yours. Your Titan, Wildwood Druid, formed a protective barrier around you. The front of the cocoon was open, four figures staring down at you: a boy with blond hair blinking curiously at you, a girl with light pink hair trying to examine the titan still around you, a woman slightly older than the two teenagers who gave the appearance of being uninterested. And in the front of the group was a very familiar face, looking like he'd seen a ghost. He looked a bit older than you remember, but that was definitely Dante Vale.
“Dante?” you asked, rubbing at your eyes to make sure they weren’t playing tricks on you. “What… happened?”
“You vanished. You’ve been gone for years, I… I didn’t know what happened to you,” Dante said, reaching for you to help you out of your Titan cocoon. You took his hand and let him pull you up, but your legs were weak and wobbly so you had to lean on Dante for support, the blonde boy coming up on your other side to help keep you on your feet.
“I’m not sure either,” you replied, deep in thought. Once out of your cocoon, the Titan shifted back into her usual humanoid form, though stayed out of her amulet and seemed wary. “The Foundation said I’d be able to handle the mission by myself, so I went. There was… a Titan. A massive one. Pain. Then… it was like I was asleep. I don’t think I was injured.”
“It seems the Foundation under-estimated whatever situation they sent you into here. Wildwood Druid apparently had to shield you from whatever it was, which put the both of you into stasis. When you didn’t come back, I was upset at the Foundation for sending you off alone,” Dante said, a quiet anger showing through his words. “I might have a few more words for them once we get back.”
“So, Dante, are you going to introduce us to your friend here?” the younger of the two girls asked. She had been keeping out of the way of the reunion, but it seems her curiosity got the better of her.
“Oh, right,” Dante said with a sheepish grin. He gave your name to the group, before introducing his new team in turn, “Lok, Sophie, and back there is Zhalia.”
You tried to wave, but that felt like a little too much effort for your body right now, so you just smiled and gave a nod of greeting. “Pleasure to meet all of you,” you said, but you couldn’t help but think one person was missing from your little reunion. “So, where’s DeFoe?”
Dante tensed beside you, and the two teenagers looked at you like you’d grown a second head. Zhalia just quirked an eyebrow as she glanced in your direction. “What?” you asked.
“DeFoe… he’s not like you remember him anymore,” Dante said. He glanced around before guiding you over to a fallen tree to sit on the log. Apparently this was a conversation you needed to be sitting for.
“Hold on, you used to be FRIENDS with DeFoe?” Lok asked in disbelief, and you wondered just how much you’d missed.
Dante waved for the other three to sit down too, and you could see him trying to plan out how to explain the situation to both his current team and to you. “Y/N, DeFoe and I were all friends, back in high school. We joined the Foundation soon after, going on missions for them,” Dante explained to the rest of his team. “When Y/N disappeared, DeFoe… blamed the Foundation and me. I was supposed to go with, but I was called away on an urgent matter so Y/N was sent alone.” He then turned to you. “DeFoe quit the Foundation. He was bitter, and he joined the Organization. He wants to bring the Foundation down, and me personally.”
Your heart sank as you thought of your two closest friends mourning you when you weren’t actually dead. How that tore the two of them apart, and sent DeFoe on a darker path. He always seemed a little resentful of Dante, but you didn’t think…
“I want to see him,” you decided. “If my disappearance turned him into an enemy, then maybe my return will bring him back too?”
Dante sighed. “I’m afraid it probably won’t be that easy,” he said. “If you stick around with us, you’ll see DeFoe again before long. But before that, you need to rest.” He looked up at Wildwood Druid. “You too,” he added with a small smile.
You gave a single nod of acknowledgement, the Titan doing so as well at the same time before disappearing back into her amulet.
“Let me help you back to where we’ve set up camp,” Dante offered, standing up and helping you up alongside him.

Hey hey it theory time
OK SO THIS ONE IS ALL ABT KAFIE AND TERMINA
Ok so y’know Lorule and shit how it’s an upside down Triforce and how ppl theorize that ravio has wisdom Hilda had power and Yuga has courage all that good shit?
WHAT IT WE APPLIED THE SAME LOGIC TO TERMINA!!!!!!!!!!
OK STARTING OFF WITH FUCKING KAFIES DESIGN HERE
Tumblr media
TO START OFF
at the end of his top you can see these little bunny ear thingies who else has bunny ears and is a parrell to RAVIO!!!!!
also Kafies main colors are purple with an accent of gold like ravio
Also he wars a mask to hide himself like ravio does in ALBW
also their both too cowardly to do something
Kafies hair is also purple (like ravios 😨😨😨)
now hopping a bit to link here the amulet that he gives you in the game is reminiscent of the Zoras Saphire an engagement item given to you in oot and Kafie just so happens to be engaged to anju
PARALLELS BETWEEN LINK AND KAFIE
OK SO ONE they both are engaged with and have some sort of blue Amulett
two their hair is literally the fucking same kinda
three both have some wird ass thing we magical aging
and both are like missing/forgotten/left behind ish (Anjus family wanted to leave with our Kafie)
TRIFORCE!!
Ok so in the mm manga Link describes Kafie as being unnaturally strong literally throwing him to the wall and then literally he hangs link by the collar of his shirt
And I think Majoras has Wisdom, I mean majora literally played the skull kid like a flute so that (imo) could fight link/FD for some sort of revenge
and bc Kafie was strong there was no need for a courageous being really
(or Anju might be courage due to her staying behind when the moon was seconds away from hitting clock town just to see her love)
And it basically completes the whole hyrule/Lorule thing
also Termina is like almost Terminal which (I think) mean something that you travel in between through
So Termina would make since to be a middle ground between Hyrule and Lorule
FINAL THOUGHTS
I think that Kafie is a design parallel to Ravio and a story parallel to link
OR Kafies is supposed to represent link in some way like he’s grown up and is engaged basically with someone he loves but is forced to go back to a younger state and lose it all
Kafie is power
Majora wisdom
and Anju is courage
Sorry for any spelling inaccuracies or a wierdly capitalized Kafie that’s auto corrects fault it literally hates me sm or incorrect grammar (I have a hard time typing my jumbled thoughts on to words)/gen
yo this was cool as shit to read and I wish I could say more, but I’m not super familiar with this character. This was really fun to read and I loved hearing ur thoughts! Kafie being a design parallel to Ravio would really interesting! :)
