"Hello there, cutie! Ready for the best night of your life?" Your best friend Lynx greeted you excitedly as soon as you came out of your class. Today she was more radiant than usual, probably because for the first time in months you two had finally been able to organize a sleepover. The plan was to sneak out of your college dorm and meet her on the street, where she would be waiting with her car to drive you to her mansion of a house. You weren't sure why you weren't allowed out of your rooms past 22/10pm, something about coyotes attacking people late at night, but you were in the middle of the city and neither you nor your friends had ever seen one! Plus, you were all adults, you should be free to wander however late you thought was appropriate.

- That night -

You had barely managed to escape unnoticed. For some reason, the janitor decided he would do one last patrol around the dorms before ending his shift and had almost spotted you booking it for the streets. Relief washed over your body as soon as you left the college grounds. You tried to nonchalantly walk to the street you had chosen for the meet-up, which was just a block away.

The brief adrenaline rush was starting to roll off of you along with the sweat on your forehead; you turned on your phone to check the time, confirming you had arrived perfectly punctual for the time you had scheduled for her to pick you up. She should be here any minute now. "Good evening miss, would you mind helping me with something?" You were torn away from your thoughts when you heard a voice call out to you. Turning around, you were met with a tall woman with long, silky black hair, presumably your age. "Oh- uhm, sure miss, what is it you need help with-" Her eyes flashed red as she stared directly into yours. "Follow me, and I'll show you." at that moment, you felt yourself lose control of both your body and mind, everything tuned into a blur as all you could do was watch as your body started moving to trail behind the woman. She led you inside the nearest dark alley, commanding you to stand still against the wall...and you obediently complied. You watched her get closer to you, her satisfied smile growing wide enough for you to notice her unnaturally long sharp teeth. You couldn't move, or scream, as you felt tears swell in your eyes, a few drops wetting your cheeks and dripping onto the ground.

"What do you think you're doing?" A familiar voice answered your prayers. The vampire who had already grabbed your shoulders and was an inch away from sinking her teeth into your neck, halted her movements. "Who dares disturb me during my-" Her grip turned rigid, but then her hands quickly abandoned you. Maybe you weren't going to die just yet. You could feel the electrifying tension hardening the air. "...Miss Andromeda, please forgive me, I was tempted and hadn't noticed I had accidentally intruded on your territory." There was no response from the other person. You were unable to turn your head or even shift your gaze, but you could still somewhat recognize your savior from what you could see from the corner of your eye. The figure had shortish ginger hair, pale skin, and was wearing a comfortable white hoodie...the same one you had seen your friend wear this morning. There was no mistaking it, it was her. Why did your almost-murderer know her name? And most concerning of all, speaking to her so carefully...almost fearing the fate that would await her if she chose the wrong combination of words. You watched as the woman, clearly nervous from the prolonged silence, bowed her head in a rush way and spoke again. "I'm incredibly sorry. I'll leave immediatly, my lady." But before her head could fully rise again, Lynx had already closed the distanced between them and grabbed the back of her head, forcefully pushing it back down. The woman didn't dare try to free herself, she didn't even try to mitigate the damage to her scalp as some of her hair was torn out by the force of her hold.

"...you filthy rats, can't even follow one of the most basic of rules: Do. Not. Touch. My. Property." With each word, she aggressively yanked her head from one side to the other, earning a few pained grunts from the vampire you were almost starting to pity. "I swear I would never do such a thing on purpose! I was- I was just-" With a particularly violent pull, she lifted up the woman's head, effectively shutting her up. She stared into her eyes and smirked. "I might have let you run free with a warning if you hadn't gone so far as to touch them. Such pathetic creatures like you don't deserve to taste them. I have claimed my ownership over that one for a long time now, you can't go around stealing people's things and expect mercy." She paused for a moment, her menacing smile disappeared, replaced by a blank expression that somehow still radiated rage and indignation. She then bent down to whisper the last part in her ear. "Especially when it's MY special little thing you were just about to deprive me of." As if it was nothing, an effortless task she had performed dozens of times, she ripped the vampire's head off. Blood oozed out of her headless torso as it fell motionless on the floor. Lynx simply threw the severed head on top of it and scoffed. "What a dumb bitch, should've atleast tried to run away."

You were paralyzed, not sure if it was because you were still under the spell's effect or the overwhelming fear and confusion you were experiencing. You couldn't run or look away from the corpse and your best friend- could you still call her that? Was she really who you thought she was? What was all that talk about ownership and claims? Was she talking about you? Your panic started to exponentially rise when Lynx turned to look at you. Each step she took towards you caused your body to scream at you to run, run, and don't look back, run run run- she was right in front of you. "I'm sorry that you had to see that sweety." She cooed, moving to grab your hand. You flinched away from her, finally managing to take a step back, but you realized there was nowhere to run that way as your back hit the cold bricks of the wall behind you. "Hey hey, no need to be scared of me...It's me, Lynx, your best friend!" The smile on her face appeared genuine but the dangerous glint in her dark eyes and the blood staining her once white hoodie were telling a different story. But...she did save you. She just wanted to protect you and apparently, the best way to do so was to- well...tear a woman's head off. Is that even possible for a normal human being, to detach someone's head so easily?

She tried to come closer to you again and this time you let her "Are you hurt anywhere? Did she bite you?" The second question came off far more emotional than the first. "N-no, I don't think so, she was about to but you came just in time..." You wanted to thank her for saving your life but at the same time, you weren't sure how to feel about the situation. You avoided her gaze as much as possible, staring at your shoes and the trashcan next to you. "Good, no one is allowed to do that but me."

"Huh?? What did you just say?" you looked back up at her, even more confused and concerned than you were a moment before. "Oh no worries, we'll have time to discuss it later." She grabbed your arm and started pulling you away, you put up some resistance but after the late-night show you were forced to witness, you understood there was no hope for you to free yourself. You obediently got into the car with her. She started the car and began driving towards her house. "I promise I'll explain everything to you once we get home, ok love?" She put her hand on yours, squeezing it. You simply nodded in response, hoping this night would end soon.

3. weapon of choice? any particular reason they chose their weapon?

Shivani's main weapon is an one-handed sword, simply because they're designed to eliminate threats as quickly and efficiently as possible and Shivani is not a fan of carrying weight for funsies. Sometimes she uses a great sword for the sheer power of it

6. how do they wear their hair? do they care a lot how their hair looks?

Shivani takes great care of her hair. She cleans and oils her hair routinely, and as a result, her hair is silky smooth. If it's tangled/untamed it greatly irritates her. Shivani normally braids her hair but using it loose doesn't necessarily annoys her.

Helen just uses it loose. Or on a french twist for a gala. She's also the type to either spent three hours on an everything-bath or pay someone to do it.

8. do they have a nickname? who gave it to them? if it's not derived from their real name, what's the story behind it?

Helen gets called "princess" by Bruce as a way to tease her because the other kids on hs called her that, Regina George style, and the nickname simply stuck

Now, Arie calls Shivani a dozen things, but her nickname is a simple Shiv

10. if they wear jewelry, what kind? do they prefer silver or gold? do they have a favorite gem?

Shivani got a dozen different ear cuffs. She's a big fan of thread-type of earrings but she got only one piercing to pass them through (sad). Rings and necklaces are annoying. She uses more silver and brass jewelry

Helen uses anything-designer. Doesn't care much about it. Gold. Values more the little "cheap" (what is cheap for two billionaires anyway?) charm ring Bruce gifted to her than every other one. She also got a signet ring with the family's crest engraved that was he father's

15. how big or small is their family? who did they live with growing up? do they live with anyone now?

Shivani got an older sister as her only blood-relative. But she lives with her group and ocasionally puts orphans under her wing

I won't be specifying how she grew up, but it was an extremely strict place that forced discipline into her

Helen currently lives alone. She grew up in a silent house that she never called home

22. do they sleep well at night? + How they deal with the one bed trope?

Helen has a messed up sleep-schedule. Sleeps from 6am to 10am and then takes at nap to 10pm to 12am if she doesn't have any event to go to. It doesn't take much for her to sleep but any minor sound wakes her up

Shivani takes forever to fall asleep, but once she does, she sleep like the dead.

Helen is a cuddler. She will cuddle pillows, sheets, people. It doesn't matter for her. But even a simple snoring or turning around (shaking the bed) wakes her up. So she'll force the other person to lay on the ground. She'll only sleep in the same bed if she loves the person A LOT

As long as you don't touch Shivani, she's fine. She doesn't want alive things touching her while she sleeps. Also the knife below her pillow is an accident waiting to happen

23. how would you describe their voice? can they sing?

Helen's voice is mellow, pleasant to listen to. She can convince you of anything if you don't have mental fortitude. She can sing, think of Kali Uchis on See You Again

Shivani's voice is more deep, husky and flat. She can't sing, the most she'll do is lullaby a child to sleep

28. how do they show that they care about someone? how do they express that they don't like someone?

Helen would bankrupt a person just because the person ate the last cookie. Buy their lands and assets just to be petty

She shows she cares by buying things the person might like, including vacations. She doesn't know any other way to show she cares without feeling like a performance

Shivani will do the "is this okay? (I love you) Do you want that? I'll get it for you (I love you) is it okay if I touch you? (I love you) Can I come closer? (I love you). I love you, I want both of us to eat well" and cook their favourite dishes

Filled out this OTP questionnaire for Tiara B & Jewel the Beetle because if I'm going to think up a cute crackship of a pairing that can't ever be real, the least I can do is make content for it

(also this is based on my AU for Tiara that I posted a couple days ago)

1. Who most initiates PDA?

Tiara, not necessarily on purpose, she’s just more comfortable with physical contact

2. Any sleep habits either had to get used to?

Jewel has a strict 10pm - 6am sleep schedule (maybe even 11pm if she’s feeling daring) while Tiara will stay out late and sleep in until the afternoon regularly. They’re both willing to make adjustments if they want to have breakfast together or something

3. Hot and Steamy or Soft and Tender?

Deep Fried, double sauced…wait we’re talking about chicken wings right?

4. How did they first meet?

Tiara heard through the rumor mill that THE restoration leader was not only efficient at recovering displaced people from the Metal Virus and is also an expert on gems so she made a mad dash to meet her to see if there were any possible leads she could get to finding her father. -She was a little disappointed that Jewel was much more petite and anxious than she was imagining but after getting to know her better she realized Jewel was just the person she needed to help her

Though Tiara doesn’t remember, Jewel actually saw Tiara first at some of her hangout places like the sports bar and the gym she secretly practices yoga at and thought Tiara was pretty. So when Tiara storms into her office demanding to see her Jewel’s thinking she must’ve died or is hallucinating.

5. What is their love language?

Since Tiara can’t stay in a place too long, when she’s in town with Jewel she’ll spend as much time as she can with her. Even if it’s just restoration work or watching Jewel polish her gem collection.

Jewel’s softspoken but knows Tiara doesn’t like quiet, so she does her best to keep a conversation going or give Tiara the reaffirmation she might need

6. When did they realize they loved each other?

Tiara’s gem powers are tied to her emotions, she realized it was especially effective at breaking robots when she was protecting Jewel from a stray badnik. She had to stop and think about what the connection was and once she got it, she got it.

Jewel always was attracted to Tiara’s outgoing and friendly nature, she was at first kind of treating her the same way she does Tangle “oh I know this feeling. She’s just a friend. I just like her as a friend” but after catching Tiara’s mask slipping and realizing she’s a lot different than what she thought she started wanting to get to know the real Tiara more and then realized it was love after all darnit.

7. Who is more sentimental?

Tiara, she’s stubborn about it, but everyone she’s made a connection with on her journey is so important to her, she’s learned to not take those relationships for granted.

9. How are their personalities different?

Tiara is more likely to jump into a situation without thinking while Jewel is more likely to think it out first

Jewel is more open to talking things out and getting to know people while Tiara is more likely to stay closed off

Tiara

Jewel's clothes are unfortunately too small for Tiara, but she has tried on one of her suit blazers to feel fancy when she wasn’t looking.

A little of both? Like they like going out and doing things together, but they’d prefer if it was in an intimate setting like a restaurant

Tiara impulsive, Jewel voice of reason. 9 times out of 10

16. Who stays up way too late and who tries to drag them to bed?

Jewel sticks to her sleep schedule, if Tiara wants to join her on time that’s up to her. No dragging required.

Jewel’s been starting to get antsy about being tied to the restoration or her museum but tries to stay positive. She’s been paying more attention to local sports teams so she can catch Tiara up on what’s been happening while she’s away.

20. Who holds a grudge the longest?

Both are prone to holding grudges, but maybe Jewel? She will say that all is forgiven but a bug never forgets.

21. Which of the two is quick to speak and which one is quick to listen?

Tiara isn’t shy so if something’s on her mind she’ll just say it. Jewel’s a great listener

Jewel

Tangle likes Tiara a lot, Whisper tolerates Tiara, Lanolin and Tiara do not get along. (Jewel doesn’t have a family so I guess the diamond cutters count lol)

Tiara treats Jewel very gently so on the cheek or the hand.

Jewel found a sensitive spot behind Tiara’s ear, so there.

Smooth like mild wing sauce with ranch

32. How do they resolve their arguments?

Talking it out. Before they got serious Tiara was prone to just cutting off the conversation “It’s fine, it’s ok if this doesn’t work out. I’ll do this on my own anyway” kind of thinking. But now that they’re more of an item Tiara’s doing her best to not do that anymore.

33. Who has the most nightmares and how do they deal with them?

Tiara. And hugs.

34. Do they give each other nicknames?

Jewel is too self conscious (if this were a romance anime she’d be the type who thinks calling each other by first names or without honorifics is a huge step) and Tiara wants to be respectful so she doesn’t have anything in particular or say them in public but if they’re alone she’ll let “My Jewel” slip.

35. What movies do they enjoy watching most?

Historical dramas. Tiara wasn’t into it at first but then once she realized the drama actually got juicy and interesting she’s addicted. The more historically accurate the movie is the better for Jewel.

36. How’d they meet each other’s families?

Tiara started hanging out at the restoration HQ so her meeting Jewel’s friends was inevitable.

37. What do they like the least about each other?

Both are prone to being a little jealous, so when that side of them comes out.

38. What was their most memorable date?

Romantic getaway to do cave spelunking in the Mobian Alps. The quartz there are amazing

this is actually crazy...

a year ago a big part of what got me really into birding was after i did the great backyard bird count i looked into local birding groups, found out there was an explicitly leftist birding group in the region i live in, and that (despite having events in a whole 20+ mile radius) they were going to have an event in the parking lot i'm assigned at school to watch the courtship displays of a weird bird i'd never heard of (the american woodcock)

and i couldnt make it to the event but i became so so obsessed with those birds and watched them on my own time in that parking lot and started making a regular thing out of bird watching in the woods and fields behind that parking lot. and i was really looking forward to going to that annual event again next year

and then this year they announced it for the evening before my birthday, me and my gf went, met cool people, and then there were no woodcocks lol (probably because it ended up snowing later that night)

and because of my fucked up work and class schedule this semester i havent ever been able to go to my parking lot at twilight to see them this year. but today my coworkers were really really nice to me bc of my leg injury and covered for me so i was like hm... this might be my only opportunity to actually see them this season so i want to make sure i'm at a place i'm guaranteed to see them since even beyond the event night it looks like people are seeing less of them in my parking lot than last year

so i looked them up on ebird and saw one place in the towns all around me that had way more reports of them at a given time than anywhere else. it wasnt even a hotspot just someones personal pin. and i went to see where the coordinates lead me and it was.

the street i live on????!!!

and i thought back on how for the past week when i've gotten home i've been like. damn that kind of sounds like a woodcock out there but it must be frogs or something because its like 10pm so its too late for woodcocks to still be calling i think

so i went to the huge farm field down the road from me, didn't see/hear any, then realized that the specific coordinates the person reported them at was actually at the smaller farm closer to my house.

and i heard like 4 of them there!!! but then i heard one on the other side of the road and tried to get closer to it and i thought it left to display in the air but it was getting a little too dark so i wasn't sure so i started heading back to my house

and then in the area literally right across from my apartment i heard another. its like a big apartment complex next to that area so i didnt feel like i would be in as awkward of a situation to trespass there (and have done so before) so i walked in and was litearlly like 10 feet away from a woodcock, heard it right next to me, and then saw it go up in the air and display. there were like 5-6 total! literally right next to my house! the most reported at a time in all of my area this year!!

so basically i keep having amazingly lucky american woodcock-related coincidences and they continue to fill me with wonder and ignite my passion for birding. love those little guys

hi hello! i’m trying to get into wrestling, thanks in part to your excellent fics, & im not sure where to start—do you have any advice? should i just watch the next match & catch context where i can?? i’ve seen the hookhausen primer, but beyond that i don’t know much of the Lore…what do you think?

Thank you again for your patience while I was out of town and couldn't answer this! I'm now ready to settle down and show my whole ass and admit I don't really have any good advice, but what I'm about to talk about will be specific to All Elite Wrestling (AEW), which is trying (and succeeding imo) to be WWE's younger, more hip sibling.

I'm gonna stick this under a cut because this is a stupidly long reply to your question. And I'm also gonna refer to a generic "you" as I'm hoping this will help other people who are thinking about hopping onboard.

The first trick to enjoying wrestling is by following your pussy (or pussy equivalent). The second trick to enjoying wrestling is finding one or two people to scream at. I don't speak for everyone (obviously), but I've randomly messaged so many people in fandom and they've all been happy to yell about our favorite clowns at the circus.

(For anyone reading this, my messages are always open, or you can find me on discord @ blacktofade#2949. Just know that I have every notification turned off and I will see things when I see things lmfao)

For me, getting into wrestling (again, specifically AEW) went: reading fic on AO3 -> watching some content of one specific wrestler on YouTube -> watching what I could of the AEW weekly schedule -> finding more wrestlers I liked and reading more fic on AO3 -> rinse and repeat.

There's too much lore (and often content) to feasibly digest it all as a new fan, so don't sweat it. Just have fun watching what you have time for and figure out who you enjoy most. Just remember that you're allowed to like anyone for whatever reason. We're all just here for a good time.

Also, most of the lore is hand-wavy at best. Most match promos are basically one person going "you did my man dirty by looking to the east on a wednesday at 5pm, therefore I have no choice but to fight you" and the other person says "yeah okay let's settle this in Ohio in a week like adults". Just go with it. Sometimes even with context, shit just doesn't make sense. Your job is to sit there going "yeah! kick their ass!" and to love every camp minute of it.

The great thing is that a lot of matches are on YouTube. Just search "[wrestler name] match" and you'll most likely find 10 years of content waiting for you. Pick at random. Don't try to go chronologically, or you'll drive yourself insane. See a thumbnail that interests you? Click it.

If you're lucky, you'll pick a wrestler who vlogs a lot (looking at you, Mr. Danhausen) and you'll be introduced to other wrestlers by association.

My favorite thing is watching two people wrestle on one of the AEW shows, and then looking them up later and finding out they had a major feud between 2010 and 2014 on three different continents and I'm very late to the party. This is part of the fun. Their history plays as big (or as little) a role as you want it to. You make the rules for your wrestling adventure. Anyone who says differently is a huge fucking nerd and you can tell them I'll meet them in the parking lot after school.

Now, for actual helpful info on how to literally watch wrestling:

When/Where to Watch?

Wrestling nights are every night Mon, Tues, Wed, and Fri with the following schedule:

Mon – Dark Elevation on YouTube @ 7pm EST (midnight UTC) Tues – Elevation on YouTube @ 7pm EST (midnight UTC) Wed – Dynamite on TBS @ 8pm EST (1am UTC) Fri – Rampage on TNT @ 10pm EST (3am UTC)

The Mon and Tues shows are the easiest to watch since they're on YouTube and you can watch them whenever you want after they air. They usually save the meatier matches for Wed and Fri and there are plenty of ways to watch those while sailing the seven seas 🏴‍☠ and I definitely won't share info about these if you message me...

It took me the longest time to figure this out, but they film the YouTube matches on the same days as Dynamite/Rampage (which are live shows). For example, an episode of Dark might be filmed on Friday, but won't air until the following Tues. Which is why you might see the same outfits or people in the crowds, and also why you might see spoilers on socials from people who were there in-person for Dynamite/Rampage.

Live shows have a post show for people there in-person, too. It's typically along the lines of "let's bring out this wrestler and you can clap and they will tell you they love you". Sometimes, it's a lil extra kayfabe beef between wrestlers. And sometimes, very kind people record these and put them online for us to gobble down. Would definitely recommend searching YouTube or Twitter on weekends after shows.

Throughout the year, they also have Pay Per View (PPV) events, which are additional-cost shows typically on weekends and they're like 5 hour of pure nonstop wrestling for $50. They're a blast. Highly recommend if the brainrot is eating you alive.

Independent Wrestling?

I have dabbled only slightly outside of AEW, but for $10/month, you can get a subscription to IWTV (Independent Wrestling TV, not to be confused with Anne Rice's masterpiece lmfao), which has an insane amount of matches, an excellent search engine, and a video player that isn't pure trash.

This is a particularly fun investment once you've started to get to know the general AEW roster, because familiar faces pop up EVERYWHERE.

Finding Matches?

One of the hardest things is trying to figure out where to begin with finding matches for a specific wrestler or team.

CAGEMATCH is the single most important wrestling resource on the internet. Hands down.

You can search for any wrestler and it will compile a neat little list of every single match they've ever participated in. It will also tell you who won, how long the match was, where/when the match took place, and usually where you can (pay) to watch it. This can be extremely helpful for 1) writing fic and 2) finding lore between wrestling characters.

WTF is Kayfabe?

This also took me way too long to figure out, but kayfabe is the act of pretending what happens in the ring is real (real fights, real beef, real characters, etc). They're not doing fancy stunt work, they're actually kicking the shit out of each other. Most interviews are kayfabe compliant as they sit there and go "yes, on wednesday I will be murdering my enemy live on stage". It's very fun.

The "not kayfabe compliant" tag on AO3 is typically used when the fic uses shoot names (aka real names). For example, Donovan vs. Danhausen, Jim vs. Orange Cassidy, etc.

Fandom Etiquette?

Wrestlers are often easy to interact with, whether it's here, or Twitter, or Twitch. Don't. Don't even look in their direction if you're posting about ship-related content. Don't send them links. Don't @ them. If you want to keep your space safe, block them and stop them from seeing your content.

On AO3 you can lock your fic to give an extra layer of protection (and sometimes some cunt will send an ask to a wrestler here on tumblr telling them specifically how to get around it lmfao). Do what makes you feel comfy. I leave mine open because if anyone finds it, that's between them and god. I also haven't felt shame since the 90s.

ANYWAY. TL;DR: there are many ways to get into wrestling, but I hope you have fun on your wrestling adventure because that's the important thing.

August Newsletter: Back From Comic Con

Hi everyone! And welcome to everyone who signed up for my newsletter at San Diego Comic Con. It was fun to see a San Diego Comic Con where comics were the focus again. If you're new here I'm making these comics:

Blue Moon is a werewolf romance gn I'm writing and Meredith McClarren is going to draw. I'm late on its script.

The City Between is my webcomic about werewolves in the future. It updates Wednesdays. The current story is called Shards of Reflection.

You are the Chosen One is a fantasy comic about 23 kids who got the same prophecy dream. It was posting on Fridays on my Patreon. But my editorial work has been piling up/overwhelming me lately. So it's on hold until I finish up some other stuff.

My day job is an editor at the manga company Seven Seas and the indie comic publisher Iron Circus Comics. I like folklore, fantasy, and especially like werewolves.

This month I'm making tweaks to my website. So we finished some more minor switches like adding more social media buttons to the top bar. But this month we are gonna revamp the store section. Speaking of the store, Misfits of Avalon volume 1 is out of print. I just sent the last ten copies to White Squirrel who handles my store fulfillment. I'm not gonna sell it at cons anymore. In about a year or so, I'll probably talk to Darkhorse about putting it back online and printing an omnibus.

This month's werewolf movie is The Howling 2. I'm showing it in my discord server August 30th at 5pm PST. Pop in to join if you like!

On August 24th, we'll have Tracy Butler of Lackadaisy Cats on Iron Circus Geekshow as a guest to close out the wildly successful Iron Circus crowdfund for Lackadaisy Season 1.

So last month I was too wiped to post photos of going to the Del Tor that I went to in June. But I sat down and put them in a drive that anyone can browse. So have a look if you wanna see some of the puppets used in the Pinnocino movie.

While I was at San Diego Comic Con, I went to a Junji Ito exhibit. It was very cool seeing his originals. I always think its cool to see how different artists end up using white out or what needs correcting. All the photos I took during SDCC are also in a drive for you to browse.

If you just want to see cosplayers though and not horror art I posted cosplay photos on my instagram.

As for what I'm working on, I'm still playing catch up on stuff from shake ups at Iron Circus Comics. So I'm officially putting You are the Chosen One on hold until I have Blue Moon scripted. I might put it on hold longer because I realize I'm almost half way through Shards of Reflection and haven't finished the next City Between stories's script. I'm pretty sure more people read/are interested in The City Between than You are the Chosen One. So it's got to take priority.

Some time this month I need to find time to clean up Murky Water. It got it's first proofreading pass and I need to fix text. Then I need to start building a crowdfund for it and decide when and where to run it. Iron Circus has been having good luck with Backerkit, but it's back end is overly complicated in my opinion. Meanwhile, I said last year that I probably wasn't gonna use Kickstarter again because of them moving to the blockchain. They have kinda walked that back, but not 100%. Either this month or next, I'll type something up and ask what you all think of both platforms.

With all this on my plate, I haven't had much time to check out new stuff. Plus with the writers/actor strike, I don't want to promo any TV or Movies I've been watching. The makes my what I've been checking out section pretty focused/brief.

I started reading Berserk.

And it's really really good.

If you are unfamiliar with Berserk, it's a classic manga/anime. And about a year ago it's creator, Kentaro Miura, died. Since then more and more people online have been giving it new attention and encouraged people to sit down and read it. The youtuber Super Eyepatch Wolf had a video that got me interested, Then FD Signifier brought it up in his videoessay about masculinity and anime. And then War Rocket Ajax reviewed it on Comic Catch up. So I pulled the trigger and read a big chunk of it.

And like I said, it's really really. It's extremely violent and frequently indulges in edge lord levels of grim dark. So skip it if you don't like extreme violence. But there is some beautiful character moments that are all the more touching because they contrast the violence.

It's just some really good comic storytelling.

I love to cook, and I'm happy to try cooking anything once but I tend to favor more dessert dishes... My current all time favorite is the lemon tart recipe by "pretty.simple.sweet" but melon pan (don't know the recipe writer for this one) and a Portuguese tart recipe from my friend over there are my favorites :D

I have a betta fish named Mr Cobra Bubbles because I liked the name and he is grumpy but also incredibly sweet for a betta... he has not eaten any of my cherry shrimp cleanup crew 🦐 💜

I like to try different crafts so the doll hobby is so much fun. I love doing face-ups, re-rooting hair and creating really cool outfits! Plus seeing what other artists like dollightful and hexian come up with is so cool! It does take me a while to finish a project though

I am terrified by spiders but I hate the idea of killing them! Huntsmen in particular freak me out but I will dutifully capture them in a glass cup and put it outside (hopefully without getting said spider on me). I have captured a white tip to take outside when I was younger and told off by my auntie :( which was probably a good thing 😅

I adore birds! I don't care about species or rarity, seeing a birb out doing its thing always makes me happy! Even seagulls, their brazen thievery just makes me like them more...

My online name comes from a mlp oc I made in highschool and I have basically committed to that name ever since

My sleep schedule can be affectionately called a hot mess, I am currently trying to get to sleeping at 10pm and waking at 7ish... It was previously 3am to 11 😅

Actually my whole organisational side could be called a hot mess, I struggle to keep to a schedule and the procrastination is strong in me. It's another thing I am working on lol.

I cannot stand mint. It actively makes me nauseous as I had some minties while sick when I was younger and that association has stuck around ever since

I am almost finished with my master's degree and I still have no idea what to do next. I was contemplating a phD but I don't think I have the academic stamina for it.

030624- I should fix my sleep schedule. I've been going to sleep at 4am for weeks in a row, it's taking a toll. I feel like it's hurting my ability to shift even though I'm always shifting without knowing it and I don't need to fix anything to shift the only thing holding me back is myself, I know this!!! I've read like every single shifting post on this god forsaken website, heard every shifter tell me I'm the only thing holding myself back. I know this. I'm holding myself back from shifting. I know it. I just don't know how to help it. I don't know how to fix it and that's the worst part. I feel like I'm making less progress than I was months ago. I'm not going to give up. I just feel stuck. For some reason I think these blog posts will help me feel a bit better, but I guess we'll see.

I woke up and went back to sleep about 5 times today and decided not to go to for a sixth. Maybe if I'm tired enough I can trick myself into shifting, I thought. Well here we are. On Tumblr. I did have a dream about my DR though which means something I think. Prophecy or a Flophecy? I guess we'll see.

040624- Hi I'm back for tuesday so guess who didn't shift... well me ofc !! (ー_ー゛) I hate everything. I hate feeling like I'm failing every single time I wake up. I wanna start a riot about it, I wanna cry and scream, but at the same time I don't care. I feel nothing. I feel powerless. I know i'll shift eventually. I'll shift one day, but one day feels so far away how long is one day gonna be?? A few hours? A week? A couple months? Another year? Another fucking 5 years????

well good news is my dreams have been an ATEEZ-fest these past days which is a good sign I hope.

050624- another dream, another day waking up here, and another FUCK MY LIFE. I keep getting Pinterest emails multiple times a day which is pissing me off more than not shifting actually! also I still haven't fixed my sleep schedule but I didn't get on my phone as soon as I woke up today so lets go???? i haven't been remembering said dreams I have about my DR but I just know when I wake up "huh I dreamt about my DR I'm also not in my DR I'm gonna do something evil and bitter now fuck my life!" Does anyone know how to remember your dreams better? (・–・;)ゞI've heard dream journals might help so I might start doing a dream log to test if its true. I'm also hoping people will actually read this cus if they don't I'm gonna look a bit pathetic asking no one advice...

also again had a DR dream and once again don't remember it... but non the less I'm in an okay-ish mood today I've been rereading this draft back and it seems like I'm always in a bitter and bad mood but I swear I'm not I just have a lot of strong feelings in regards to my shifting log entries while all of those feelings r real and I do feel them I'm not bitter and sad all the time!!! just in those moments which seem important to write down idk

070624- okay hi hello whatttt I didn't shift last night but I literally don't care cus TWO things that I've been manifesting literally came through on the same day. TODAY!!! I'm freaking out what the fuckkkkk also last night I was like okay fuck it we ball.... and just layed down on my back and just repeated "Im in my DR" for idk how long but at some point I started to feel floaty and I then started to hear like talking?? words?? i feel closer than I ever have today THATS ALL BYEEE <(￣︶￣)>

080624- last log of this week so yay!!! my sleep schedule is semi fixed so I'll take that as a win also last night was insane !! I took 2 sleep aids to knock my ass out so I lowkey wasn't going to try and shift but something just told me to try it... and oh boy was it worth it I didn't shift but I started feeling super close to it and at one point I heard an alarm go off??? anyways that scared me so bad so it took me out of it but I think I was semi shifted to my dr during it and it was my alarm going off !!!

I'm really enjoying just robotic affirmation I'm getting closer and closer everytime and the results r showing!!!

I had no hope at the start of this but now I'm riding on a high!! shifting is real trust !!! I know it feels hopeless sometimes but it's all worth it in the end !! anyways byeee week one of this log ( ╹▽╹ )

It was Tuesday. And it was raining. I was walking. I never thought I liked the way my shoes sound soaked in water. I was not quite sure where I was headed (or maybe I was) but my feet just went along with the sound of old cars, people arguing on their cellphones and the ocean.

Oh. How pleasant and unpleasant is the ocean at the same time.

It gives me discomfort but it also makes me feel like I'm safe. Maybe that's why I walk down this street so much. Maybe my obvious (or not so obvious) destination is worth the joy and pain that gives me the ocean.

I walk around a little more and then I see it. A really modern building with what's supposed to be old architecture design.

Mcqueens building.

I'm not quite sure why I'm here. We've been so casual that I don't know if this is right. Maybe I should leave. But he's been so gentle lately. He's been smiling more. Something he never does. Especially with people. And he smiles at me. He's been accepting my love. I know it. I see his eyes.

I enter the lobby, saying hello to the receptionist and walking towards the elevator. Mcqueen lives in the penthouse. So the elevator goes directly into his apartment. His very big apartment.

I entered. Doesn't feel like home. But I guess eventually it will feel like it.

I hear the small tv on and that concerns me. It's past 10pm. Mcqueen does not mess with his sleep schedule. And then I freeze.

“Are you unhappy?” Oh. That someone else's voice. I know that voice.

“I don't know Ryan, am i?” He laughed. He laughed with that tone. My tone.

I stayed where I was. Not knowing what was happening or what to do. I don't even know if I had to do something, if I had to stay or leave or simply just accept what I was thinking was happening.

I was so merged in my thoughts that I didn't even notice Ryan raising his head and looking at me.

“Oh. We got company” Ryan whispers in his ear. So close to him. I know what he's trying to do. And its working.

Mcqueen looks confused at him not getting what Ryan told him. And after 4 seconds of him moving his head looking for someone. He found my indescriptible gaze.

“Ed.”

It took me 30 seconds to figure out he was saying my name.

“Mcqueen” I said. In a tone that I don't even know how to describe.

I didn't give my heart another second. My eyes went from him to the person so close to him.

“And.. Ryan” I finished saying.

“What… I mean…What are you doing here” He looks at Ryan for a second, giving him the ‘‘you need to go” look.

Ryan looks at me. Like he accomplished something big. “It's ok, I'll go. We'll finish the movie eventually.” he says.

Then he took the time to say goodbye to Mcqueen with his eyes. And my blood starts to boil.

Neither of us said anything until Ryan got out of that apartment and when we heard the close shutting we both knew.

“Look Ed it's not like..”

“What were you guys watching?” I interrupted his speech.

“Ed..” He knows. That's why he's saying my name like that. He knows.

“Answer me.”

“Ed.. Don't do this to yourself”

“Answer me!” I yell.

He looks at me. But I don't know which eyes he is looking at me with.

He struggled to say it but eventually he did.

“Mala Noche.”

“Mala noche” I repeated

It didn't take me long. I was racing to the door. That was our movie. The movie where we bonded over wine and effortless deep talks.

He grabs my arm, but I don't let him get further.

“Ryan” I almost yelled.

“What?”

“Don't act stupid. Out of all people.. Ryan?”

He knows the thing that I have with him and still.

A person from his past cannot keep interfering in what's his future. Our future. We talked about it. That's betrayal.

“What do you mean?”

“I love you. I love you. Not him. He does not.”

“You are the only one that my dick could get hard for. I'm confused, what the fuck you want my heart for?” he said. I was perplexed.

“You are the only one that my dick could get hard for” He keeps on saying that.

“I’ve been misused, what the fuck you want my heart for?” He does not get it. He never will.

“Can you even hear me!?” i yell.

“Hard for?” he said. Like I should settle down for that.

I mock him “I've been misused, what the fuck you want my heart for?”

And i leave. Not knowing if i ever going to comeback (i do)

Spooky Season is Here!

Hi everyone! And welcome to everyone who signed up for my newsletter at Rose Comic Con. It turned out to be the best Rose City Comic Con I've ever been to. If you're new here I'm making these comics:

Blue Moon is a werewolf romance gn I'm writing and Meredith McClarren is going to draw. I'm late on its script.

The City Between is my webcomic about werewolves in the future. It updates Wednesdays. The current story is called Shards of Reflection.

My day job is an editor at the manga company Seven Seas and the indie comic publisher Iron Circus Comics. I like folklore, fantasy, and especially like werewolves.

The big exciting thing this month is I've been helping my good friend and streaming cohost, Alina Pete, build and prep a backerkit campaign for the anthology they've been editing, Indiginerds.

Indiginerds wants to celebrate the ever evolving Indigenous culture. Organized by the ever talented editor Alina Pete, one of the co-editors on Iron Circus's wildly successful anthology Woman in the Woods, this book collects work from several indigenous artists and writers. From gaming to social media, pirate radio to garage bands, Star Trek to D&D, and missed connections at the pow wow, Indigenous culture is so much more than how it’s usually portrayed. Join this anthology as it examines balancing traditional ways of knowing and pop culture.

It will launch October 16th. If you want to be one of the first people to backer, you can sign up to be notified here. It's a great book and I'm excited for the world to see Alina's hard work.

This month, I'm also gonna start making comics that answer reader questions. If you have one post it here!

Last month I was mostly keeping my nose to the grindstone except for selling stuff at Rose City Comic Con. Thanks everyone who stopped by and grabbed a book. I mostly took pictures of cosplay when I wasn't selling books. You can see them all here. But there are the highlights.

This month I got several of the backgrounds done for the video game I'm working on for Iron Circus games. I have two or 3 more settings to draw. But I'm gonna spend next month focused The City Between and the manga I'm editing for Seven Seas.

Speaking of manga, one of the favorite titles I've been editing for Seven Seas, Reincarnated into a Total Fantasy Knockout, is out now.

It's about a guy who is transported into a fantasy world and is turned into a hot girl. His best friend is also transported and the two have to stop a demonlord to get home. It's complicated by the fact that they are cursed to be attracted to each other. It's a deconstruction of both romance and fantasy tropes while talking about gender identity. It's a lot of fun!

This month I've mostly been watching Star Trek stuff. Particularly, Lower Decks. I appreciate that while Lower Decks is an adult comedy cartoon, it's humor doesn't come from one character being awful and abuse to other. That's a refreshing break from all the adult cartoons trying to copy Rick and Morty. I think the characters are just a lot of fun. Also, this season the little monster Moopsy has captured my heart (and my bones.) They need plushies of this little guy.

I also reread one of my favorite mangas, Pluto. If you are unfamiliar, Pluto is a retelling and modernization of an Astroboy story. It is a murder mystery as a robot detective looks into someone murdering the worlds most advanced robots. I decided to reread it because there was a question going around bluesky about what scenes from comics have stuck with people/"live in their head." For me it's a scene between Astroboy (or Atom as he is called in this book) and the scientist who built him, Dr Tenma, having diner.

Basically, this scene sticks with me because Atom was built to replace Dr. Tenma's dead son. This starts with Atom talking about his interests and how he happily did his chores. Everything Atom cares about isn't what Dr. Tenma's son cared about. Both of them realize over the meal that Atom is his own person and he can't replace Dr. Tenma's son. So even though Atom is the most humanlike robot ever made and is a grade scientific achievement, Dr. Tenma failed in his goal to bring back his son. And Atom is left is an impossible task. I think it's just such a well paced and laid out scene. In context, I think it's heartbreaking.

Redo of "I guess I'm doing a thing lol"

so uh I've been addicted to Welcome Home since the beginning of the year(2023)...and I'm normally the type of fan that just wanders around and gives my silent support with the odd comment left here and there....but seeing all the Welcome Home AUs I've got inspired to make my own...specifically by the who made the CreaturePirate AU...(don't let them see this pls I-I-I don't think I could function if that happened lmao XD)

....I haven't made any art for it yet but Ive got lots of notes so I'm just going to dump it all here so I've got it written down some where lol...keep reading on if you like or just keep drifting doesn't matter much to me...tho I hope you enjoy my info dumping :D

OK so to start I didn't have a proper name for this AU when I first wrote this but now I do!..it's going to be called Lost Media AU but for tagging purposes it will be WH Lost Media AU! Now onto the actual info :P

So the main thing that's different right off the bat is that instead of aimed at kids and being educational, this Welcome Home is aimed mostly for adults, young adults and maybe older teenagers but certainly not for kids [tho this doesn't stop parents from letting their kids watch it -_-]

The show leans into some heavy themes though horror seems to be its main theme with the goal of unsettling the viewers with reminders of advice given when they were kids. It started airing in 1949 and has had two hiatuses since then, one around 1957 lasting a year and the second one being 1970 lasting only a week.

Since their first hiatus in 1957 their broadcasting company has been changed but there isn't any information on the current company in charge of broadcasting the show, not even the location of the broadcasting studio could be found. The show had also went from being a mainly English broadcasted show to a multilingual one, being shown in whatever language was used most in the country the show was played in.

The Welcome Home! show was known for its lovable and eccentric cast of characters but also for its odd scheduling and bumpers. It played throughout the day and late into the night with the only interruptions being the 1-2 hour long bumpers. Depending on the time the viewer watched the show you'd get a different variant of the show. For example...

2 - 5am = horrifying visuals, sounds and a generally haunted feeling, odd creatures were mostly noted along with a few...noteworthy changes to the seemingly friendly neighborhood. [has caused many deaths tho these were wrote off as natural causes]

5 - 7am = the first of three bumpers. the mildest of them, its a bit weird and surreal as if you took way too many psychedelics at one time. Viewers might think they hear something in their home but don't pay much attention. [anyone whose seen this bumper can't remember what they saw]

7am - 9pm = the usual TV show that most people have seen, with episodes ranging from lighthearted adventures to horror/slasher plot lines. Nothing out of the ordinary here besides the odd detail or two being oddly colored or misplaced. [nothing noteworthy here besides the characters sometimes going a bit off script]

9 - 10pm = second bumper. a bit more intense than the first but again not the worst. Massive drug feel to everything as if you are on the way to having a very bad trip. Everything begins to bleed together and become oddly colored while seeing the characters head inside their homes. Wally's house becomes the focus with a sudden wide shot of the neighborhood. [has traumatized kids and caused many to faint once the bumper is done, an odd eye mark showing up on the nap of the neck barely noticeable anyone including the viewer]

10pm - 1am = the once happy and inviting neighborhood becomes very much unwelcoming, becoming an odd liminal space of sorts with distorted voices drifting in and out repeatedly. The camera is fixed on Home with things moving at the edges of the camera but that's all at least on the surface [has driven people to insanity and paranoia]

1 - 2am = the last bumper...very intense and the feeling of being watched comes to the forefront and quickly becomes overwhelming the mark given on the second bumper burns intensely and the viewer can feel themselves stiffen up leaning more towards the TV screen. [while somewhere in the viewer's home faint chanting can be heard]

A big coincident that occurred started during its run in the 60s seemed to plague the show till now. A cult had revealed themselves to the masses though the name has been seemingly lost due to some meddling by someone. At the same time quite a few people [between 12 and 33] began to go missing with no traces as to what happened or where they may have gone. The only key thing tying them all together was that Welcome Home! was on in their residence when they went missing. The cases had gone cold after a few years but many speculate that the show and the cult had something to do with it.

wow that was quite a lot now that Ive written it out XD and that's only like the lore stuff Ive got sorted out atm haven't even gotten to the characters and such lol...maybe when I get home from work I'll get all that stuff written down and posted? idk XD we shall see I guess
