with peace and love. please think about how the person on the other side of your ask might feel. sometimes people ask my mutuals such uncomfortable things - like “do you know why x unfollowed me?” or “why aren’t you answering my messages :(“ and things like that. there is a person on the other side who really doesn’t owe you explanations and you may be putting them in a very awkward spot, especially if you are sending an ask (which is usually answered where the public can see it!!). like just think about that please 🫶🏻

Actually no. I just think that I don't have to waste my time hating something when I clearly can be dedicating my time and effort to those I love.

I hope I can teach you my ways but to be honest, since the day I came to know of the fandom culture, I've been instructed to respect others' choices of consumption. It came as a way of life, I think? Like basic manners in fandom space. I suppose it does have something with the fact that the Asian fandom, where I come from, has always been more lenient, dare I say respectful, and open in comparison with the Westerners, by which PJO thrives.

If I have to give you any advice though, I think I have a few that would help:

Before you send any hate, ask yourself if this is really worth your time, and if you'd be really feeling better if you engage with what you dislike.

Most of the time, it's just not worth it. Yeah maybe at that time, shitting on something you hate might sound fun, but at the end of the day, you'd only have burdened yourself with a sense of frustration and ruined others' fun. Try scrolling away the second you feel like you're not enjoying yourself. Pretend they don't exist. You'd forget about it like three minutes later. It helps a lot.

This is not real life. You can hardly (if ever) change someone's mind by arguing with them online. There's no need to trouble yourself, right?

Accept that whatever you like, there's always someone who dislikes it; and whatever you hate or feel disturbed at, there's always someone who's into that.

Because we're humans. and humans are self-centered at birth. we're not saints. we love and we hate as we'd like. it's just how we are. And it's fictional anyway. Who caressss. Let us love and let us hate.

This is... really a very simple thing in the Asian fandom, actually, but somehow the Westerners miss out. I've seen Twitter accounts condemning those who support pairings they disapprove of. I find it stupid and meaningless. Just. Don't. 😔😔😔

Which also means acknowledging your dislikes btw. You might figure out your reasons, but don't try justifying them. You hate whatever you don't like, that's all. Rant as you want. just avoid the fan's space. Don't jump into their sanctuary and commit blasphemy.

As I usually do, I might dislike Percy as he is, but I'm aware half of the fandom's in love with him, and that's okay! I know I don't like him though, so I stay away from his tag, and if I'm ranting I'm putting it somewhere fewer Percy fans can see. You wouldn't want to see hate in your blorbo tag now would you? It's just respect in its simplest form.

Fictional characters don't have rights. The only right they have is copyright. Just remember that the next time you feel offended in your blorbo's place.

However, I'm aware most of these just... don't apply to the wester fandom. yeah I don't know why either, everybody has this need for justice (their justice) somehow...

I suppose it'd be hard for you, but if you'd like to change your perspective to have a better, more peaceful fandom experience, I strongly recommend following the above.

Favorite story ever is probably one I haven’t published yet (sequel to “The hands we’re given”)

I hop really badly. It makes editing super difficult lol

I’ve never deleted a published fic because I see them all as my writing history. Even the unfinished ones, even the awful ones. I’ll probably always keep them up unless someone finds them offensive/hurtful.

Best writing advice: rewrite. I hate it so much but it’s really good. I also like the reminder that readers are only seeing 10% of your character, but you still have to develop 100% of them anyways. 

The worst: just write! What the fuck does that even mean? It’s unhelpful and doesn’t make me want to write. 

I have not collabed! I do come here for help though and the Pac-Man gang always has my back.

I currently have 40 WIPs, 25 of which will likely never be published. 

I’m most proud of “Broken Toys” bc even though I hate the writing I love that it’s been an educational tool for those who don’t know much about asexuality and a place for other aces to feel seen. 

I’m currently really invested in “The Art of Burning”  by hella1975 but I truly can’t pick just one I have so many favorites and have a ton of respect for other fic authors

Best review? I also can’t pick. I have the most incredible readers who are way too nice to me and make me feel very loved and appreciated. When I’m especially sad I’ll reread comments from “Big Dai Energy” because everyone there is so nice even though I don’t deserve it 

Worst review omg okay so back in my Teen Wolf writing days I got this insane comment where they were angry that I gave someone’s werewolf betas to a different alpha for the purpose of the plot, and they ranted like crazy about it. It was so funny, and I got a ton of comments aimed at that person from other readers who were like “???? What is ur problem?” 

Hmm I think I’d write a prequel to “you told me that you fell in love with it, hadn’t gone as I planned” by @just-a-gay-bean because it would probs be angsty as hell and she created such a rich history that it would probably be a pleasant write

I do reread my own stories, mostly to cringe and remind myself how to make my future ones better

Nah, being published seems like a lot of work. Writing is just a nice outlet. I think it would be kinda cool to develop a TV show (my friend and I are sort of working on one right now)

I’ve been posting on AO3 since 2015 but I posted works to Wattpad and Quotev (Quizzaz at the time) back in 2011. They were really, really bad.

Other fanfic writers are a huge influence! I also take a lot of inspiration from music and life experience.

Hardest part is staying true to the story and the characters, and making sure that your vision stays consistent.

Easiest part is coming up with a loose plot and shoving in the characters you like haha

Best part of writing fanfic is reimagining your favorite characters in interesting storylines, happier worlds, and/or with deeper connections than they have in canon. I love how there’s no limit to the possibilities

Plot of a WIP: Character A moves into a new apartment after leaving their abusive ex and starts a shiny new job. They meet Character B (their neighbor) as well as a ton of people at their job, in the apartment, and at the corner store. They slowly grow into A’s support group and A is just like “huh, weird that people can still like me even after I’ve been ruined” and then eventually A and B strike up a great friendship that turns into something more and it’s really angsty but also really hopeful.

I think I bring versatility. I try to reimagine the characters as I see them rather than what the fandom sees them as in fanon but I also think that it helps that my fics are all incredibly different.

I honestly don’t even know the proper etiquette of tipping because I almost never ever have been in a sit-down restaurant where I’ve paid because of the whole “I don’t have an income” thing. If for whatever reason I did, I would have asked the person with me how. I do (maybe…) believe however that there should be a baseline for how much you tip, even if your experience is somewhat unpleasant. You don’t know what that person is going through that day. Ur most recent post just made me wonder why Barbie hasn’t done a Vlog/episode about blocking negative people yet, like it’s really a missed opportunity cause it would help younger kids a ton because I have no problems blocking people online (I’m 23) but my younger sister (she’s 16) is suuuper worried about how people are gonna view her/she’s nervous about seeming too harsh when it comes blocking people & I think if Barbie made a Vlog or episode about it then people wouldn’t see it as a bad thing

Like I know ppl know about blocking but it’s like, I swear ppl that didn’t really grow up with/on social media don’t really get it the same way. And even ppl that did sometimes still get hung up on those things, but it’s like...

Okay, so I’m completely against the mentality that online is not real life, bc obviously it is. What ppl say and do online absolutely reflects who they are in the flesh, especially in cases where they may be able to say things anonymously, bc then it’s like you can really know who they are. Ppl say shit online all the time that they would never be brave enough to say irl bc they don’t want those consequences lmao. But on the other hand... Being online is unique in the sense that you really can curate your experience. You can block ppl and never interact with them again. You can have that freedom to put yourself in a space where you feel entirely comfortable with who you’re talking to and who’s talking to you. And some ppl really don’t do that, they feel like it has to be like real life, and you have to tolerate ppl who make you uncomfortable or say things you don’t agree with--and it doesn’t even have to be major things! Like, I block ppl I don’t agree with on just fandom stuff all the time. Ppl I’ve never even interacted with, but like, I can tell from their posts that we are never, ever gonna vibe, so I just cut that shit off at the pass in case we ever did run across each other.

And I wasn’t always like that, but I’m glad of the fact that I have gotten here. I worked hard to get to this place, where I feel comfortable curating my space like this. Bc it is hard, there is still some guilt and I wonder if I’m being too mean or too harsh or whatever, but at the end of the day... This is online. This is something I do for fun, this is the place I go to have my fun, and I don’t need anyone in my orbit that will make it not fun for me. That just completely ruins the point. (Other sites too, but obvs this is tumblr.) And like, ppl can think I’m mean for it. Fine, whatever. But I’m doing what I have to do for me, and I’m not out here picking fights with anyone, I think that’s far more unhealthy and destructive than simply blocking someone pre-emptively.

Anyway, back on Barbie... I also think that she kinda lacks the spine to have this attitude. She tolerates a lot of bs, not just in the vlogs but in DA, that I think is unhealthy. Like, I love Trey and Tammy as characters but she should never hang out with them. She doesn’t know how to put up boundaries in her life in any sense, apparently, so I’m not surprised they haven’t really touched on this. I wish they would but like... That would make Babs Too Mean I guess so they probably won’t lmao.

so it’s called Full Metal Furies, it came out January 17th this year and i think i got it around the 20th of January, it’s made by the ppl who made Rogue Legacy (yknow that super duper hard game?) and to get a much well thought out description u might wanna check it’s store page, the game’s on xbox and steam! (it’s also on sale for the steam summer sale! not for a whole lot but less than 20 dollars) ((its also recommended to play w a controller, preferably an xbox one, otherwise ur stuck figuring out which button does which blindly but once u get over that hurdle its all good, i personally find the keyboard controls annoying so i take the temporary button confusion over getting used to the keyboard)) (((u can also just google full metal furies and the first result should be the main site that cellardoorgaming made for it if u want even more info!))) also here’s the menu!

most things i have to say abt this game are good, but like everything even an amazing game can have its flaws. the good things i have to say abt the game are; i love the controls and i love the fact that you don’t have to play alone for good gameplay, you can still play the game without gathering people to play it, but its still fun when u do, they recently even added in lobbies so u could play w random ppl or ppl u know online rather than a couch multiplayer kind of style, i also love the art of the game, the backgrounds the lighting the pixels and the lines and the characters and how detailed everything is, and i love the character personalities and relations, they aren’t the largest part of the game but there’s enough for me to get attached to them, even throw away kind of ones or minor characters, i love the lore as confusing it can b for me at times i love the battle mechanics and the boss battles, the music is also amazing!!! the album 4 the music is on itunes, apple music and steam if u wanna check it out! i especially love how the all four protagonists are kick-ass women who are goofy at times cus that’s just human!! and they interact w each other in a way i like! and the puzzles are super clever! i also like how you require teamwork when playing w other people, like there’s no leaving the other behind bcus u NEED the other to progress, there are these color shields that assign to a character (only if u have that color in ur party) that only that character can break, even the places that are usually stepping stones for games are incredibly important like the level map, you need the level map to solve puzzles and it even looks amazing! same with the camp where you can level up and access character choice, u also need that to solve puzzles and its extremely pretty, at some point u also get a cat! 

b4 i get carried away abt what i like abt the game i want to name some of its flaws, cause i think i failed to do that in the previous post so here goes. the puzzles are insane, like out of the box’s box thinking, like i accidentally unlocked a puzzle thing by just playing Alex’s guitar (from a music set u get l8r in the game needed for the puzzles) for the fuck of it sdfghfdsfdsds but the only really possible ones for me, a person who is shit at puzzles where the first two stages, and some points of the game can be pretty tough, that’s just me tho, there is a way to tone it down w a setting called story mode, and even then it can b pretty tough, it’s not game ruining but for people who really hate hard challenges i wouldn’t recommend it, unless u think u can overlook that sorta thing bcus u like the art, gameplay and the characters, back to the puzzles real quick; you CAN finish the game w/out the puzzles, but to get the true ending (from what i’ve gathered) you have to solve those puzzles, and they get HARD, for me personally it would take a lifetime for me to solve any puzzles late game by myself, as a person who is not good at puzzles, i could still do it but it’d take a while, and there’s this stealth level at some point within late game where you have to sneak around these enemies or fight a fuckton of difficult enemies if u don’t successfully sneak past them, and it is almost impossible, the game was not made for stealth, although a part of me tells me that’s intentional, cus even if you do like die, you still keep any money and i think level ups to items you have equipped, so the level might be designed specifically for that purpose, it’s a good grinding level or fighting for fun level, but if the true intention was a stealth level it pretty much failed.

and i think that’s all the flaws i can point out, in the end i’d highly recommend this game even with it’s flaws, for me the flaws weren’t many but they where still there, the puzzles are definitely hard as rocks but i think the outcome would b worth it (haven’t finished em but i hope it is) the hardness of the game is also there but heavily intended (this game is made by the ppl who made rogue legacy after all) and you will definitely fail some levels cus failing isn’t always the end, learn from ur mistakes and grow stronger n all that jazz, the stealth level is kind of a mix of good n bad, cus if u look at it in the perspective of it wasn’t really designed to BE a stealth level, and instead just to look like one, i personally can kind of appreciate it, cause the Furies don’t hit me to be exactly the stealthy kind of war-stoppers sdfghfdsjhfs but if u look at the level the opposite way, it’s pretty a pretty bad stealth level

and that’s it, i think i did a much better job than the original post i made, i wish i could add in stuff abt the characters but that would make this post much more larger for my liking, i’m glad i targeted some of the key flaws for me, which didn’t even really turn out to be that horrible once you looked at them, some more stuff i wanted to add, the game has colorblind and heard of hearing modes you can turn on if you experience any of those, which i thought was extremely thoughtful, also the story mode that makes the game easier DOES deduct some of the gold it gives you, not a whole bunch, but it is less than you would get on normal mode. on the final note of this post, i would absolutely highly recommend this game, absolutely worth any money it costs! (20 dollars usually, rite now it’s 13 dollars due to the summer sale) if you read through the whole thing the only thing i can really say is; thank you so much for reading! i hope you want to check the game out after this! and if u do end up buying it i hope u like it!

me, mental health, this blog, why i had to leave, and studying psychology

i guess i finally figured out why i had to leave for a while.

i finished therapy a week ago. we finished on a NET. A NET is a Narrative Exposure Therapy where you deal with your trauma by narrating your own life (and its best and worst points) from birth to the present day. It forces you to emotionally relive most of your awful moments in great detail. So far I can say its helped me understand things more. I hated it, it was exhausting and I knew the 2 times a week I went to therapy, the entire day was ruined afterwards because I was so exhausted. Mentally and physically.

During my NET this blog played not too little a role. I realized that it was my escape route from the emotional abuse i went through at home, but it was also part of the trigger. My stepdad, the reason for my PTSD, regularly threatened and belittled me over my use of the internet, controlled my hours, cut me off at will, and ridiculed everything i did online. that was his main point of power over me at that time, excluding my fear for my mother’s well-being. this blog is where i always came to, every day, to forget that for a while. but i couldn’t use it without his benevolence. so while it helped me a lot, YOU people helped me a lot, it was also a constant reminder of the abuse i moved away from.

while i went through therapy i got diagnosed with multiple disorders and we went through them as they came up. in the beginning i was so caught in the “well me n my stepdad kinda get along” trap that i didn’t even think it was worth mentioning. throughout the course of 2.5 years we unraveled the mess that is my head and, turns out, the layers. i had gotten so bad at functioning that i didn’t eat, and all those fun things u do when ur really, reALLY fuckin depressed.

Well, through that process we got through my depression to my anxiety to my ocpd to my bpd and finally to the ptsd. yes i have an official diagnosis for all of these things and spent mostly exactly half a year learning to deal with it. turned out, once one part was dealt with, another problem showed up. so finally we got to the ptsd, and frankly? that explains everything.

but because that trauma was so closely linked to this blog i think i instinctively felt the need to break off from it while i unraveled my brain. now i’m done! i understand myself a lot better. i am still on meds, still get panic attacks, and still have problems especially related to the ocpd, my perfectionism, and the emotional stress that comes from bpd. i am by no means done with recovery and i don’t think i’ll ever be. but at least i have names for what’s going on. even though most of these things kinda caused the other and vice versa and sometimes i do not know what certain aspect of my mental state caused the current negative state, but i learnt to deal with it. mostly.

i was always very open with my mental illnesses, and i will continue to do so. i am a student of psychology after all, and it was very helpful to know what’s going on, but also feel it. i could take both roles, of the removed ‘professional’ and the patient.

if you have any questions about how i experienced these things and got through the worst parts of them, you’re more than welcome to hit me up. i am not a therapist and everyone’s mental illness is different, so i will try to help... but i will not diagnose, give any opinion that could be mistaken for being professional, or even administer ‘therapy’ myself. but i will be here for you folks to talk to, share experiences, and gain some insight.
