More and more sources reporting Jikook will both exclusively stay together at 5th division for the entire 18 months confirmed. They will be deployed to a unit together on the 5th week, cause they enlisted as companions in the buddy system & won't separate, but likely not Jin's area & won't be made public, but at least they will for sure be together until they release. Not that there was any doubt, but its nice to see it in writing. They chose the buddy system together for this reason. They could have just went to 5th division as individuals or anywhere else with anyone else, for that matter, but they wanted to do it as companions to stay together and everything is working out for them. They didn't want to be separated and they are not gonna be. Also, can we take a minute to think about this, cause Like holy shit. Jikook worked so hard behind the scenes in silence and set this up for themselves, while they were being mocked, ridiculed, their bond trashed, horrible rumors about not being close or even friends who have each other's numbers and really pulled off the biggest FU ever. They didn't let anything or anyone get in the way of their goal of staying together. Good for them. I didn't think Jikook could surprise me more, but damnit, They did.

Hopefully some who were still trying to convince their followers they were gonna split after 5 weeks and Jk go to where other members are cause he's dating them, gets their asses handed to them by their followers for continuing to purposely gaslight them and lie to them. I would be in their face screaming right now, making sure they don't get a good night sleep. Some of these tkk really been thinking Jk was gonna leave and this was just temporary. These idiots with their 'My boyfriend's, girlfriend's, mailman, who has this 1/4 korean friend told a friend of a friend who knows korean" bullshit, need to be gone. This fandom needs to start weeding out these manipulators and liars, starting right now and clean house for the next 18 months.

I always say, we can sit here and talk and tear their relationship apart and put it back together, doesn't matter. They are doing the relationship.

Seems people don't understand at this point what a relationship actually is. They are there making PLANS together in ways that COUPLES WOULD.

I really bristle at the word smut sorry its too cutesy. I was a prodomme for seven years I don't do euphemisms lol. I wrote a sex scene into IITT to see how I felt about writing sex scenes. I learned that I am only interested in writing them if they serve specific functions. I have absolutely zero judgment toward anyone who wants to write about fuckin and suckin, that's just not why I'm here

No but recently my household watched game of thrones together and my bf and his brother were cracking jokes like what if one of these medieval characters had a gundam. Neither of them read fic so I was like don't be too entertained by yourselves. I bet that has been written. looked it up on ao3 and sure as shit

I'm not gonna lie I did find a fic where someone very obviously ripped me off but I don't wanna call them out. One specific instance where they bit my style was so clumsily applied as to be obvious, but their prose in general was fantastic so like. who care.

I have my moments with the skyrim wip. I've signed myself up for something pretty complicated and challenging but I also learned that I can finish things so I'm not really worried about it. The fact of the matter is: I do not care if this is good. It matters that it is done so I can move on with my life. If parts of it are boring and overlong that's yalls problem

I get a lot of compliments on my worldbuilding. I do think a lot about the minutiae of material culture and think I have a talent for incorporating detail in engaging ways

I'm a cornball. This is a corny activity. I don't really care because I'm doing it for free. Enjoy the unsolicited view into an internet stranger's terrible psyche

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?

I try to apply with a light hand. I'm a dumbass sheltered American and I can mostly make myself understood in a Spanish-speaking country but that's about it. I like playing around with language and the idea of multilingual societies matters to me so I include it, but I'm not a linguist so I try to work within my limits. Whether I am successful at this is up to others.

Elder scrolls. Never felt compelled until i spent a winter playing oblivion and went wow this game has an incredibly bleak narrative behind a silly aesthetic. Oops now I'm in a lore pit

The Nature of Fire is my best prose hands down. I'm gonna be real with y'all I am desperate for people to read it. It is genuinely the best I can do at this point and if you like what I've done so far, well, whatever u read sucks compared to this fic.

It's very interesting to me, as a newer Homestuck fan, to see all the extensions for the offical-unoffical archives that 'fix'/remove 'problems' or 'problematic' parts of Homestuck. I was on Tumblr when Homestuck was at its peak and reblogged all the cute ship art, follow the outrageous ask blogs, my best friend did read it as it was still coming out¹. But I never actually read the comic itself, just kind waves from the sidelines. But I wasn't there to experience the big controversies in real time (i.e. 'peachy'). Hussie is not above critique, but I don't think he's a bigot or even a bad person. What he is, is a troll. A classic 2006 'I said something fucked up not because I believed it, but to get a reaction.' Which, I can see to someone who missed that time of the internet, and only knows now. In which people say those fucked up things, to get a reaction and cause they believe it.

And so to see people younger than me, but have joined the fandom at the same time as me, not understand this context, it feels wrong. The things people are willing to sweep under the rug cause it conflicts with their morals vs the things they condemn and blame Hussie for.

Homestuck is a very long, very complicated, but very important piece of art. To not consider every facet of it does it a disservice.

For something made by a 2006 troll, it put a lot of queer characters worth caring about in it. The alpha kids & trolls both exist to be parodies of their beta counterparts. This is partly why Dirk is queer, and that Dirk refuses a label. But is still allowed to opening like, then date, then break up with a boy. It's a response to how the fandom wrote & treated Dave. For those who know it, compare the S19Ep6 of South Park, Tweek X Craig. Matt & Trey, who in my opinion embody the same sort of troll sense of humour Hussie has, handle fandom making their characters being gay quite differently. Tweek & Craig in this EP aren't treated as genuinely queer characters, but the kids trapped in what the town has decided are wacky hijinks of this week. It's not necessarily bad, but compared to Dirk it feels way less genuine.

There's topics I can't talk on fully like the way Hussie's racial biases appear in various characters, as I'm from a completely different country. But in my very non-american opinion, it reads more as 'someone who has never thought to question the stereotypes they were raised with', than as someone who is genuinely and actively racist. There is a difference, and as a mixed kid that's important to me.

I'm not really sure how physically disabled people feel about the way Hussie wrote their physically disabled characters (but if people have written about this I'd love to read and linked to me) but he definitely uses mental disabilities/illnesses as a substitute for the word 'quirky' without thinking much about it (i.e. Nepeta is off-handedly called autistic) it's not really great, but the bar is so low when it comes to these things that my tourettic ass cling to Mituna like a lifeline.

Maybe I had a further point here. Maybe my point was just antis in the Homestuck fandom is still weird to me when there's canon incest. Maybe I've drunk a fair bit of vodka while writing this. I have work in the morning. Good night beloved tumblrinas.

I do not know if it was you, or another blogger that made a character analysis of Gojo that made me like the character and discover more about him through the manga.

While I never read the manga before or watched the anime, I had been exposed to it by my friends and some BNHA bloggers. Back then, I found Gojo to be overhyped (discount Kakashi) while liking the animation(?) style, bit still no interest.

BNHA and its Endeavour Redemption arc in the doing was tiring me to the point that I stopped reading it and manga altogether. For mayne six months or so, until now, at least. I randomly found your blog last week , and it got me a new hyper fixation 😃. You got me to start reading JJK (Megan cos playing also helps).

I bought Number 0 and Number 1 of the mangas. Only to remember midway in Number 0 that Walmart Kakashi will be snapped in two like a Kit Kat🥲. I saw that leak in one of the BNHA blogs, and I didn't mind it back then since I wasn't in the fandom, but Lord, now it sucks.

Anyways, all this long rant to say that I like reading your posts.

Probably was someone else, I don't write much analysis posts about Gojo. I think once or twice I did, I can't recall. Probably reblogged one though you saw!

I don't know, they're really just two different characters to me. Also... I was never really an active reader or watcher of Naruto like that (just very familiar) so when I first saw Gojo, Kakashi didn't register to me at all.

Like, I did not get similar vibes at all. And it actually annoys me that people will be like "He copied Kakashi's flow"! Kakashi ain't the only white haired, face covering character out there with magical eyes, y'all stop. 😆

Even funnier when, by this point, Gojo has probably been unmasked more than he has been wearing something on his face and switches up what he puts on his face. Kakashi been wearing the same mask for...? Also, didn't it take years for Kakashi's whole face to be shown or something? Took like seven episodes for Gojo to show that face.

I always been a fan of Megan's music and then when I found out she was into anime I was like "YYYYYEEEEEAAAAH". She cosplayed as Miruko one Halloween and it made my year. I am a former believer that Miruko would vibe to her music.

That actually what set me off when Usher cosplayed as Gojo because he literally put "rest in peace, Gojo" or something along those lines and the amount of people who weren't even aware of 236... like bro, come on.

I knew it just had to be a marketing tactic because I know damn well Usher ain't seen JJK a day in his life and how convenient it is he comes out with that cosplay around the time when "Daddy's Home" becomes a fairly popular song used in Gojo's edits. There's one that isn't finished. but in terms of finished fics, I think it's "Companion" (John/Todd) it ends with John getting his memory back and reliving a horrible past

Just once on my Hannibal fic. Someone got really angry that I was "character bashing" (I wasn't) and even if I was, the whole thing they were referring to was noted in the tags and summary. They also criticized my use of ellipses lol

Yes, most of my fics have it. I've been doing it since what I want to call the Golden Age of Wattpad (like 2015-2018) (Though I axed all that stuff long ago. It was terrible)

My fic was on Wattpad and was culled (Wattpad used to delete stories that were pwp without any warning, they probably still do. I was twice a victim of that whole thing. eye roll). It's gone forever now.

Favourite fic you've written?

I am proudest of what I'm doing with "You're Too Sweet For Me" but my favorite will always be "Across the Universe."

A relatively new phenomenon pioneered by audio erotica apps like Dipsea and Quinn, actors have taken on the role of smut narrator, much to their fans' delight...Most recently, the Hot Priest himself recorded a three-episode story for Quinn portraying a queen's guard with unresolved feelings for a fiery rebel...

Caroline Spiegel, Quinn's founder, hopes the platform can use celebrities and horniness for celebrities to remove some of the shame around talking about sex. "Women and queer people have been trained that talking about their sexuality, talking about sex, talking about masturbation, is not good. Whether it's from a place of purity culture or homophobia or misogyny or slut shaming, it's in [the] way them having a happy relationship with sex," she explained to Mashable. "What's cool about [Quinn Originals] is it's really easy to talk about because you're not talking about sex, you're talking about Andrew Scott, you're not talking about masturbation, you're talking about Jesse Williams and Grey's Anatomy."

The comments on Quinn's social posts reflect those language habits, with fans flooding its pages with requests and comparisons to their other celeb or fictional faves. Following the release of Scott's first episode, Spiegel posted a TikTok video, captioned, "Pitch me on your Quinn celeb casting ​​👀🎧." Spiegel explained to Mashable that this is part of a strategy to find celebrities, and even influencers, who already have built-in "thirst fandoms."

Tyler McCall, the author behind Scott's "The Queen's Guard," explained the levels of fiction and fandom involved in writing a Quinn Original...

When commissioned for Scott's story, McCall said she perceived the writing process cinematically, almost like writing a movie script. And she pulled in a lot of pop culture inspiration, like Game of Thrones and the sixth installment of a '90s PC game called "King's Quest." "I was thinking a lot about Star Wars. There's always a 'Reylo' at the scene of the crime," she said...

Quinn aims to offer a less stigmatized way to explore sexuality for women. Spiegel sees fanfic — which Gesselman's observations backs up — and celebrity crushes as female experiences. "The female erotic mentality is very much around who the person is, and what's their backstory and what's happening. Female eroticism is sort of like a detective. You're trying to figure out: Who is this person? What's happening? Are they safe? Where are they? What's going on? Celebrity culture, the fanfic culture, reflects that," explained Spiegel. Quinn taps into those desires.

There's a sense of safety for listeners provided by discussing sexuality through celebrity. Not only is the fan listener familiar with Scott's voice and has a pre-existing relationship with his work, but the celebrity is consenting to the erotic content and Quinn co-signs it. It's not like the fan-for-fan erotic fanfiction that's produced and consumed on the depths of the internet. Instead, there are multiple faces for Quinn's content, both Spiegel on its TikTok and the celebrity partners.

"Quinn's whole thing is erotic content and historically it has been this very overly graphic, off-putting uncomfortable genre. Our bet is that it doesn't have to be that way, it can actually be something that's talked about over coffee with friends. That's a really mainstream, normalized, happy, healthy part of life," said Spiegel...

With the continued growth of celebrity obsession, technology is changing the availability of celeb fantasy materials to fans. In January, deepfake pornographic images of Taylor Swift went viral on X, spurring a debate about the ethics of AI tech, celebrity idolatry, and the government's role in stopping this harmful content...The rise of AI technology brings a celebrity's — and all of our — right to their likeness into sharper focus.

But if a celebrity can get ahead of this technology (and sometimes even their own fanbase), then maybe they can exert some control — or at least that's what Spiegel proposes. It may explain a celeb's unexpected collaboration with less explicit, non-visual platforms like Quinn. While the site's marketplace of creator-uploaded audios speak directly to the person masturbating, almost like phone sex McCall explains, celebrity-narrated Quinn Originals ask listeners to become a character themselves, distancing users from celebs even further.

"This is a way for celebrities who have this sort of thirst culture around them to say, 'Hey, this is gonna be on my terms. I want to feel empowered doing this,'" said Spiegel. Additionally, it's not just that the celebrity is consenting to a Quinn Original, but consent itself is a major theme of all Quinn audios. i used to get very excited whenever i saw koincidences. but after seeing so many swifties - particularly fellow gaylors bash on koincidences and claim that those are diluting everything this fandom is doing, it ruined that excitement for me and thus my skepticism grew.

but you are right, there's a rich background to the frequent twinning and the argument i sent would be ignorant of so much context and many factors.

even if they can feel silly at times, i just feel glad i can get excited over koincidences and have fun again and not take things too seriously over here.

i understand where you’re coming from! and i know the kind comments you are talking about.

which in a way are perspectives i can usually respect if i put myself in these peoples shoes. when you don’t see it get it or believe it, i think it’s incredibly natural to feel this way.

the thing for me is that, taylor is the one that continues to sing about one love in particular, and i believe they’re still together so.. the kaylor story is something that is both fascinating to think about and enjoyable to talk about, plus, taylor is the one singing about the singularly complex story of her life and love!

i think non-kaylors often confuse a lot of kaylor blogging with the notion that we are all out on a mission to prove it to them personally. but it’s like.. whenever i point something out, it’s just about the thrill of the moment of recognition of what i think is the love story of our time. and about sharing in the moment with others who see it the same way. it’s our culture! every part of the fandom has theirs.

separate from that, the part where you said people say kaylors dilute everything this fandom is doing really got to me.

because i think this is like… ugh it’s like at the very crux of the message of this album. just this notion that.. how can i articulate this properly… it’s this idea that gaylorism is about the potential of taylor coming out and the social impact that might have and so by focusing on the queer interpretations of her songs and bringing non gaylor people to an understanding of things we are doing important work. and that… that kaylors wilding out makes the gaylor cause look bad. is that close to being right? am i making all of this up off the top of my head?

because i think that this tiptoes close to focusing taylor’s queerness around the idea of how it can benefit the causes of her fans. and while i think that taylor could impact society positively, i don’t think that its advisable to place any expectations on her.

because i think one of the key messages of this album is taylor saying time and again not to put her on a pedestal. that first and foremost she wants to protect her love above all. she say, she’s the problem, she’s too soft for all of it, you wouldn’t listen to her if you knew who was talking or where she was walking… she did a whole music video scene about her children that co-opt her story and bicker over it when they don’t get a prize at the end. these people keep getting frustrated when taylor is not queer in the way they see optimal (ex: her handling of betty or of lavender haze) and while i don’t really agree with how taylor handled either example situation empirically, i can also understand why she might have done these things given how i view her individually: someone with a controversial calamitous catastrophic love, with complexities that bar her from acting a certain way, but are worth it to her to protect. i think people expect so much of her, especially on our side (the greater our side) of the fandom, but we never consider whether what we are doing or asking of her is appealing at all to taylor. i think taylor tells us an answer so clearly in sweet nothing, for example. i hope people take a real moment with this album to think about what she’s saying, instead of ragging on the kaylor pool party like they invented the concept.

ok so here’s the shitty rundown:

if you remember, at the end of dwit virgil confessed to having been a “dark side” in the past, and thomas didn’t seem to take it well

the next episode was a sanders asides, which is basically,, shorter videos that were promised to give us more content (lie)

in this asides, thomas found out his friend was like. an ex homophobe. and somehow that’s a parallel to virgil having been a dark side??? ok

basically thomas realized he needed to accept virgil for everything he was, including his past. but they couldn’t come up with a better allegory. so it’s apparently canon that thomas thinks of dark sides as being the same as. ex bigots. idfk

about a year later, the svs redux came out. oh boy

thomas got back from the wedding, sang a song with patton and roman about how it sucked because lee and mary lee didn’t drop everything to spend time with him instead of. celebrating their fucking wedding. thomas basically said “wahhh why won’t lee and mary lee talk to me instead of focusing on themselves at their own wedding 😡😡😡😡” which like. whatever i guess

they debated on whether it would’ve been better to discuss the wedding vs callback decision with lee and mary lee beforehand and patton was like “but they may have been sad if you picked the wedding, and they would’ve been sad if you picked the callback” blah blah

logan came in as a pixelated pop up (called “logans lowdowns”) and was like “im gonna give helpful information via text box” and no one bothered to read them cos they’re jerks (I DID. MY REACT VIDEO PROVES IT. real logan stans read the text and then had to rewind the video to hear the other dorks jshdjdjfjf)

ultimately patton ended up suggesting that thomas should sacrifice himself for others. and also he should only take care of himself in emergency situations. and he turned into a frog

oh yeah and then deceit popped in and was like “patton you’re being a little extra” and explained that if you only take care of yourself in emergency situations, you won’t be nearly as equipped to handle it as you would be if you. you know. utilized self care a more reasonable amount

then roman was like “shut up deceit” and deceit was like “my name is janus” and roman was like “shut up janus, also that name is stupid” and janus was like “well you’re the evil twin so suck on that”

im doing a bad job of explaining the tension but holy SHIT this video…

anyway, after the redux was flirting with social anxiety, which is another asides. it’s an animatic because covid prevented thomas from actually going to the mall but anyway

thomas went to the mall having one mini moral crisis after another, until he saw a cute guy he wanted to talk to. but virgil was like “hell no” and roman was like “hell yes” and they basically spent the entire video arguing over whether it was a good idea to approach a stranger (regardless of how cute said stranger was)

ultimately, thomas and the stranger, nico flores, managed to get to talking, and they really seemed to hit it off! thus followed a really cute end credit scene back at the apartment, i really recommend watching that part on its own i fucking love it

the next episode was the third and final (so far) asides, in which thomas has sought help from logan in basically getting his life together, starting with cleaning his apartment

throughout the endeavor, thomas tries to follow the plan logan helped him get together in order to get it done, but remus has plans of his own. with every step thomas takes, remus puts a bear trap in his path. you know. metaphorically

oh yeah and the subplot is that thomas texted nico something stupid and he hasn’t responded and thomas is like “pls god why” probably because he’s worried he scared nico off (i can’t remember what the text said but i think it was cringe? idk hsjdhdj)

logan is trying to help thomas work through his intrusive thoughts… hence the title of the video jsjdjfkfk but remus is pretty relentless. finally, logan approaches remus and is like “what the fuck dude” and remus is like. well y’all know what remus is like akdjkdjfkf

remus starts ignoring logan and logans eyes glow orange and he’s like “STOP IGNORING ME” and remus is turned on or something and he’s like “but who do you really wanna scream that at?”

nico calls thomas and is like “wanna look at art?” and thomas is like “hell yeah” and leaves in the middle of cleaning which makes logan sad and ill kill thomas for making logan sad /j (there was also ominous vague foreshadowing from janus eating an apple in a tree or some shit idk)

then there’s the five year anniversary shit. which is like. pointless skhddkjf it’s basically thomas asking the sides shit about the series and it’s mostly fluff until you look into it. pretty much on the surface level kahdjdfjfk

However that being said, you’re absolutely right about the way other subfandom fans can be so annoying about our ships by acting all high and mighty about their ship both being virgins. There is absolutely nothing wrong with that inherently and it can be romantic - but to act like that somehow makes their racist faves a morally better couple??? Do they realise they sound super puritan and like Church Pastors and Nuns who scared us former Christian kids into not having sex cos it was supposedly a sin?? 

It’s funny when you realise now most of them are trying to their couple out to be Kathony 2.0 in order to generate the hype for S3 its pretty sad that they don’t even believe in their own ship to let them be their own people.

YOOO, the new chapter has so many feels and I’m just like bro… I can’t even put it into words mate. Like Meruem feeling bad that she made Grim think that he was pet to her, while it shows the comparison between Grim and her brother + the bullying and how it feels like they were like an accessory to her and how she feel like accessory tp her mom. And how it reveals Meruem’s abuse from her mom after Grim ranaway and how she feels alone without him now. And how it feels like she's changing to a different person that she's afraid that her family or Grim don't recognize her. Then she feeling like she was forgiving Riddle too easily and her not feeling that she isn't allowed to not be the better person, and I'm just like: yoooo. But moving on, I liked how you put Epel interacting and being friends with the group, I really liked that. Also, I was kinda worried when you say that Grim would only forgive Merry in chapter 4, but then I realized that its giving Grim more character and I remembered that I was angry at my sister for something for like 8 months so like yeah. There's something about changing so drastically that you feel your family won't recognize outside of your appearance (that's about to change too) that you feel alien in your own skin. Honestly I think that Grim receives the brunt of Meruem's feelings and even other Yumesona's at some points, and I know it's only been a week after Riddle's OB but the stuff Meruem and Co endured during that was like... Almost dying twice? Magic literally setting you aflame from the inside out to the point that Ace gets concerned her nerves will fry???

I'm changing the trajectory of Chapter 2 to focus on siblings and the heavy grudges that can be borne from those relationships bc I genuinely believe there was a point when Leona did want to kill his brother so that he could get a modicum of the recognition he receives but chose to isolate himself instead realizing how dangerous those thoughts were.

Cater will play a significant role too which us why I started off with his pov this chap because of his relationship with his sisters and how they walked all over him (which is how Meruem would treat her brother at points)

I also thought about how the Fandom treats Jade as the normal brother despite him being right along Floyd and that was only because Floyd is more overt in his behaviors so I was like,,,,,,

Chapter 2 is about siblings with complicated relationships with themselves/how society perceives them that changes how they perceive their relationship and how a gap can grow from that. It definitely parallels me and brother's relationship but we've grown closer because of that—Merry doesn't have that chance the same way Cater or Leona does.

It's a whole 3 circle venn diagram of complicated sibling relationships and emotional constipation.

Grim will definitely grow and become his own person as a result bc even if they are two parts of the same whole, Grim is still his own part (person) and Meruem had been eclipsing him as a result.

I also think Grim has a lot of trauma with people exactly like her personality type (or plain abusive) so Meruem has to work hard and nip that in a bud. (Chapter 4 is about them being stuck together, I'm sure if that wouldn't have happened they'd make up by Chapter 5)

Healing isn't a linear process, and it is a struggle (more OB being thrown their way) but the best way to apologize is to fix the behavior that led to you apologizing in the first place.

I'm reading White Fang (the character that Jack Howl is based off of) to get a feel for him and the overall tone of Chapter 2 and the themes tie into the sibling submit so welll.

a probably unpopular take on the “pro-ship” and “anti” labels and related labels

Something I’ve been thinking a lot about recently. Pretty long and is me just me vomiting thoughts onto my blog, especially seeing as I’m autistic and have a habit of going off on long tangents about fandom-related subjects specifically but honestly that’s half the reason why I remade this blog so here we go. More under the cut

Just to be clear I’m not saying we need to stop using pro-ship as a term, or that we need to stop using the 🌈🍖 emoji combo. But I personally feel that these parts of pro-fiction fandom culture grew from something specific to take on new meaning, and it may be time for us to accept that we should have something more all-encompassing.

On the “pro-ship” label

“pro-ship”, as a label, is great; but it gives off the connotation that it’s only about shipping and nothing else, meanwhile 99% of people who refer to themselves as being pro-ship have ideals that fall within the “pro-fiction” label and its connotations. I have yet to see a pro-shipper who thinks there’s certain kinds of fiction unrelated to shipping that needs to be censored.

This kind of thing is why I’ve taken up pro-fiction as my preferred label. It covers shipping, fanfic, fanart, and even original works that people create that aren’t related to an existing fandom. A lot of people who consider themselves “anti-shippers” (now shortened to just “antis”) don’t just hate ships they view as problematic, but also any piece of media that may depict uncomfortable themes if they feel it wasn’t made clear enough that said things are bad. 

So while I’m not opposed to people continuing to use the pro-ship label considering its place in fandom history (the VLD fandom shipping drama), I would actually find it better if we collectively moved on from it, just as fanpol moved on from just ships to all problematic fiction as a whole, and opted to explicitly take the pro-fiction stance. 

Yeah, it is all semantics at the end of the day, but I do feel that we’ve moved past what it was originally used for, and it wouldn’t be a bad thing to make this change and adapt to the changing levels of media literacy around us.

On the  🌈🍖 emojis

Just as “pro-shipper” has its roots in the VLD fandom specifically, the  🌈🍖emojis were originally meant for shippers in the Hannibal fandom, it just simply spread to the entire pro-ship side of the debate due to the similar nature of the discourse and it just sort of...stuck. There was, and still is, nothing inherently wrong with this. To be honest my issue with both the emojis and the pro-ship label itself is something that’s hard to put into words, especially considering I don’t actually have a problem with them being used, it just feels like it’s muddied their meaning. 

I know “dead dove” has its own emoji combo (⚰️🕊️), but the problem with this is that these days, someone referring to themselves as pro-dead dove does not necessarily mean they aren’t a fanpol. Many have co-opted the term and claim that it covers the things they like, but conveniently not the things they don’t like. That being said, dead dove has its own meaning in “dead dove do not eat” and it fills a needed niche. 

That being said I’ve seen a handful of pro-fiction emoji combos, but the two that stick out in my mind are 🎉🖋️ and 🍋 🖋️. I would honestly be in full support of using the former (as opposed to the latter, since the lemon is in reference to fics being tagged as ‘lemon’ if it contained smut, and the pro-fiction outlook is not exclusive to just smut/erotica/r34), I just haven’t seen it made the standard yet. Most pro-fic people I encounter still identify themselves using  🌈🍖.

On “anti” labels

If you read my madman ramblings a lot you’ll notice that I prefer to refer to them as “fanpol”, short for “fandom police”. I generally do this since I feel it’s the most accurate term for them at this point. The term “anti” comes from “anti-shipper”, during the VLD fandom drama, where “pro-shipper” rose up in response. “Anti-shipper” was later shortened down to just “anti”, and that’s what we see used most of the time.

I personally don’t like referring to them as “antis” just on the grounds that it’s technically somewhat vague? Yeah, you can typically use context clues to figure out what kind of “anti” and in what community is being referred to, but I’ve also seen some rather unsavory folk using the term, biggest example being actual real-life zoophiles referring to people who oppose real-life bestiality as “antis”. The meaning of the term changes based on who’s using it and I just don’t jive with that personally.

I have seen a few other terms used for them, including “fanpol” (my current go-to”, “fancops” (pretty much the same thing; “fandom cops”, just intended to be more scathing and aggressive than “fandom police”), and “fantis”. As much as I use “fanpol”, I really don’t think any of these labels do justice to what’s actually going on. I’ve stopped using the whole term “anti-shipper” because it’s extended beyond ships, the same people will become aggressive over problematic content even if no ships are involved. 

“Fanti” and “fancops” and “fanpol” are okay terms, but there’s just one problem with them, in my opinion: having “fan” or “fandom” as part of the portmanteau implies, at least to me, that their behavior is exclusive to fandom, when it isn’t. 

I know this is turning into one hell of a nothing-burger of a rant but that’s just how I feel on it. The way these people engage with fictional media as a whole has warped profoundly over the last several years and I just think it might be time to rethink it. I don’t really have any good ideas for alternatives, but maybe “ficpol” (as in “fiction police”) instead of “fanpol” would be a good start.

Y’all reading this might go “this is all so stupid and all these labels are stupid”, and you’d honestly be totally correct. This IS fucking stupid, it’s all chronically online nonsense (both on my part and on the part of fanpol) but it exists and is painfully pervasive in the main fandoms I’m in right now, so I’ve been thinking about it. It’s stupid because it wasn’t always like this, the pro-fiction standpoint was the default in fandom and in everything else long before any of these terms were made. I do see the problem with us having five billion different terms for the same shit, and that’s sort of why I’d like to have people consider narrowing it down to make it less confusing for people who may be new to fandom (or maybe just haven’t been on social media, and if that’s the case GODS I fucking wish that were me) and have to navigate this kind of stupid bullshit.

Someone help me with something

So it was apparently announced that for the 1 hour special with UtaPri right that we are going to get Reiji ,Ringo ,Ryuya and EIICHI in the special. Alright let's put a pin in that last name because we will come back to this in a second It makes sense when I read the context of what the special is and its timeline (which I read goes "pre and post Maji Love Kingdom") so okay in that case it makes sense... HOWEVER It's very well known and documented that Broccoli is "stuck" on what to do with HEAVENS. Like if you don't know next year is effectively the 10 year anniversary of when HEAVENS debuted as a Trio in the Anime but it was 2015 when they came back as a 7 person unit. This in and of itself causes a mess we'll get to (cos I am gonna stay up to get this wrote damn it) because if you were to create fanart for the 10th Anniversary for HEAVENS...which is the officially recognized year? It should also be noted that ,of all the HEAVENS members, the one that is probably the most despised (or was) is Eiichi (in the Western fandom) and we know why...not brining that up cos trying to explain the actual story of what happened is impossible even if people watched it right in front of them...its why I have at least one episode of that mess blacklisted and refuse to ever watch it again!

That however brings me back to Eiichi Okay look... Knowing the timeframe that the special will cover it actually DOES make sense to do it...that's fine actually ,but then we have to ask this "What's next?" I think its going to be a given that QUARTET NIGHT will get one of these types of deals and if they don't I'll actually be shocked and wonder that the hell Broccoli is on seeing as how ,when it came to Season 4, they basically OWNED the Oricon that year! Like you couldn't remove them from the #1 spot without the Jaws of Life cos damn did they do work there HEAVENS was a surprise though...a rather pleasant one if I do say so While they never took the #1 spot they were consistently in the top 30 and in the top 3 for a good amount of time on their first proper crack at it! It made you wonder if they could pull a QN with their next proper Album but to date that hasn't happened nor has their longevity been matched since the "Immortal Inferno" days. You kind of wonder in the 6 years (almost) since "Legend Star" did the "Inferno" finally die out? Part of me wonders honestly Broccoli has had every opportunity to push HEAVENS and make them a relevant "Third Brand" for the series...they had it and they failed badly! Every time they seem to announce a piece of content for THEM there are like 6-7 more for the other two units...makes sense in a way trust me but its also obvious when Agematsu mentions "Haru-Chan" in his tweets that "she" is obviously very much busy with Shining and could care less about the "Other Unit". Remember what I said about HEAVENS needing their own composer? 6 years later I think I was right! The problem with even having HEAVENS being represented in the special is like no one is gonna watch to see Eiichi...fact and no one can argue that in the Int'l fandom but I get that also because its mainly for STARISH... So why have him there at all? What is the point of having Eiichi there? Really if you try to rationalize it from any kind of story perspective it doesn't make sense but then again (before the Pandemic) it makes no sense to have STARISH perform in the Tokyo Dome before the actual PEOPLE do! You almost lessen the idea now of a big concert in that building because the characters did it FIRST! So what COULD Broccoli be planning with Reiji and Eiichi both appearing in the special? I have a theory... Remember back when we were getting ready for the end of Season 4 where ,in the hallway, Eiichi and Reiji sort of faced off? I had thought that ,had they actually continued the Anime, that we would have gotten a HEAVENS/QN season and the sales of the two CDs at that time honestly told me that it SHOULD have happened! Honestly had it we would have probably seen sales that eclipsed the prior and it would have helped to really flesh out the HEAVENS characters since ,and this is something that still needs to be talked about, Dolce Vita is MIA but that is a completely different post for sure! But again help me... Help me understand the proper purpose of a HEAVENS member being included in something that has primarily Shining Agency. What would you really be doing this for short of setting up Dolce OR The inevitability of a QN/HEAVENS special The bigger issue now is that ,say we get the QN/HEAVENS thing right? What purpose will that serve other than weaken the HEAVENS brand more because we know that Broccoli has little faith in it. 7/7 is the biggest JOKE that they could ever play (and three months late to be honest) and they can't currently field a full squad because oh yeah did we mention YUUMA GOT COVID-19! I'll end this sort of the same way I started it "Someone help me understand what purpose having Eiichi be in the special serves? Seriously I would love to be excited but knowing the baggage he brings its like...how hard is this going to be to enjoy this?"
