therefore, his method of comfort usually comes in the form of soothing words and back rubs in his arms

when you're truly scared scared (like heart pounding, sobs racking ur body, you're def gonna get rlly bad nightmares type of scared scared)

he will probs turn it off bc he thinks that no movie ending is worth this much terror

he cares about you a lot, after all. he thinks its slightly amusing when you're screaming your head off at the obviously fake blood, but he would never want you to be fearful for real

honestly, he's as affected by horror movies at the average guy

he doesn't find them as terrifying as oikawa, but he's definitely not as unaffected as iwaizumi

also he just sometimes focuses on the wall behind the tv and drowns out the voices

he just sits through them and bears them, basically

now, why? why in the world would he do this when he doesn't even enjoy it?

when you leap 30ft out of your seat into the air, he laughs at you

he'll even add onto your fear by like grazing your opposite shoulder when you aren't looking and pretending he didn't do it

but honestly, he partially enjoys it when you spring onto him at the jump scares, no matter how much he denies it

with horror movies, he gets your affection without even asking for it! yay!

like most things in life, bokuto goes between two extremes, and never crosses into the middle

he's either having super insane cut shots that go BOOM

now, if he thinks the movie's not scary at all, he's pretty good to watch with if you're super scared

during the scary parts, he lets you cling onto his beefy arm while he just watches the movie in amusement

like there's a really scary scene where there's a huge jumpscare into the most climatic scene in the movie and you're burying your face into his arm but in the background you just hear:

pearl i think could have been a better movie if thrat had been any character development or really anything period in the first hour… when people enjoy the movie, i get the feeling they’re letting their experiences inform who the character of Pearl is to them and theyre like Wow this character is so good. but tbh shes like kinda empty and a missed opportunity, and not in the intentional way irt the plot, just she had this big moment at the end and i could understand her motivations and saw why it was going how it did, and i think it could have been a much better movie, but it was so lacking in the first hour that it took away some of the meaningfulness of the finale. i understood why she was doing what she did, and i understood why she felt how she did— they definitely communicated that, but it was all kinda meaningless because it was an idea more than a person, and i think basically if anything had happened in the first hour itd maybe be better. bc as is pearl is more of an idea than a character to me… does that make sense. also it was doomed from the start bc ti west, maker of THE SACRAMENT, a found footage horror film about JONESTOWN with jumpscares and references the real audio recordings and it’s extremely disrespectful!

i mean tbh there are plenty of reasons not to like sumi

she's a very "nothing" character--you get pretty bare-bones characterization from her up until third semester making her boring as-is, especially with how any flaws (and foreshadowing to what's actually going on with her) is essentially minimized in favor of just promoting how she's the cute new romance option in this package; that animated cutscene with her dancing comes to mind. she doesn't have much of a personality outside of those glorified cutesy traits to use for promotional material.

and once you do get into third semester and get some insight into her character, even that can be considered bare-bones: you don't really see enough of sumire to really understand who she is, and you basically don't get to see her again at the end of the game because she practically goes back to being kasumi, because god forbid she actually embraces her true appearance and personality after third semester.

i really want to like her, i kinda do, but the more that i think about it the more i hate the way she's handled. she's interesting on paper but holy shit the execution was bad.

apologies for rambling i just. have a couple of thoughts regarding sumi

Denki’s words backfired on him at the first jumpscare. He clung to Shinsou’s arm impulsively, popcorn spilling all over their laps. Shinsou smirked at him lazily. “You good?” Denki let go of him just as quickly as he had grabbed on, almost as if he had (ironically) been electrocuted. “Y-yeah! I’m good! Pfft, that was nothing.” Shinsou shrugged. “Ok.”

Denki: I grabbed onto Shinsou like 10 times during the movie help

Jirou: If he’s still with u rn he was prolly fine with it

Denki bit his lip, feeling self-conscious. Why had Shinsou decided to go on a date with him? Did he even consider it a date? Was it just out of pity? “Hey, there’s a great brunch place nearby. Wanna grab something to eat?” Shinsou asked, breaking his train of thought. Denki smiled at him, putting his phone away. “Sure!”

They arrived at the diner Shinsou was talking about, sitting together in a booth, talking about nothing in particular as they waited to order. Jirou: Why? U didn’t text me for like two hours straight

Jirou: U got this

Jirou: Now I’m gonna leave, I miss Momo

Jirou: Pay for his food too ;)

Denki: Thanks Jirou 😭

Jirou: Anytime u idiot<3 don’t forget to confess

Denki found himself grinning stupidly. “I’m definitely going to confess to Shinsou today,” he thought to himself. He saw Shinsou returning from the bathroom and stood up. “Wanna go get ice cream?” “We need to pay for our food first, though,” Shinsou reminded him. Denki smirked. “The bill has been covered by yours truly.” Shinsou’s eyes widened. “I was gonna split it with you.” “No, no, it’s fine. Now let’s go get ice cream!” Denki smiled, causing Shinsou to grin along with him.

Denki and Shinsou sat on a bench in the park, eating their ice cream in comfortable silence. Shinsou had insisted on paying for Denki’s as well as payment for brunch. Denki had protested, but then found out how stubborn Shinsou was and had given up.

“How’s your ice cream?” Shinsou asked, breaking the silence. “It’s really good,” Denki replied, his mind a mess as he tried to come up with words to tell Shinsou how he felt. He took a deep breath. “Just go for it, you idiot.”

“Hey, Shinsou?”

Shinsou hummed in response. Denki’s palms started sweating. “Um, I just wanted to say…” His voice trailed out as he awkwardly scratched the back of his neck. “I, uh, I had fun today.” “Goddammit.”

Shinsou broke out into a rare grin. “Yeah, me too.” “Really?!” Denki yelled, sounding much more excited than he had planned on. Shinsou chuckled. “Yeah. We should probably start heading back, though.” Denki sighed as he checked the time. “Yeah, you’re right.”

Shinsou insisted on walking Denki back to his dorm, which he secretly enjoyed. They stood in front of the entrance, gazing at each other. Shinsou cleared his throat. “Um, thanks for today,” he said, smiling softly. “I enjoyed it.” Denki was processing the fact that Shinsou was actually smiling before answering him. “O-oh right, me too!” he managed to stutter, causing Shinsou to chuckle. “Alright, then, good night!” Denki said, turning to go in, when a hand on his shoulder prevented him. “Shinsou-?” was all Denki managed to get out before Shinsou silenced him by placing his lips upon his. Denki’s eyes widened in shock, before he sighed with satisfaction, melting into the kiss. Shinsou pulled away reluctantly. “I like you, Denki,” was all he said before running away, leaving Denki dumbstruck. “He... he likes me? Holy shit he kissed me oh my god-” Denki was so excited he nearly short-circuited himself. He walked to his dorm room in a daze, trying to believe what had happened. A ‘ping’ from his phone snapped him out of his dreamlike state.

Shinsou: Sleep well pikachu boi. I’ll see u tomorrow🖤

Denki: You too! I’ll see you<3

Both boys grinned at the other’s message before going to bed, replaying the day’s events over and over in their heads.
