This truly is a “something to do for the next few weeks” as I don’t think it’s actually possible with a single Sunkern

I mean, look at these base stats:

I believe they’re the second lowest out of all Pokémon (don’t quote me on that, I’m not fact checking this)

It’s weak to 5 different types

Of which the elite four alone use /all/ of them in their teams

It basically only learns normal and grass type moves so it has a terrible move variety

Like it so bad that hidden power might actually have to be used

So with that analysis I don’t think it would be possible at all to beat platinum with a single Sunkern

A Team of only Sunkern, however? Let’s find out

Which pokes do you see most often in the shelter? Been looking to adopt for a while now and was wondering if there was any that I could safely own while also helping out of the system

for most shelters, the most common pokemon that get brought in are low-level local pokemon and urban pokemon. meowth is probably the most common pokemon found across all regions, but small canine, bird, and rodent pokemon (rattata, rookidee, lillipup, maschiff, and so on) are also very common. aside from those, you're most likely to see nonaggressive grass and water types (think sunkern, marill, and lotad).

most of these pokemon are rated at our lowest-difficulty for care, but definitely talk to your local shelter staff about your specific needs so they can help set you up with the perfect match!

Evolution Line Spotlight: Sunkern & Sunflora (191-192)

Would you look at that, it’s our first evolution line spotlight with consistently good ranks! It’s a little surprising, honestly, given how these two pokémon are so different when it comes to their care. Sunkerns are pretty sedentary: they’re one of those cases where, sure, they’d be easy to keep happy and healthy, but they’re much more of a houseplant than a pet. They’re absurdly easy to care for, since all they need is sunshine and water (like I said, much more of a house plant) and they hardly move around if those things are easy to get to. Sunfloras, on the other hand, are hyper-active so long as they have sunshine. They’re a pokémon that you’re only going to want to adopt if you have plenty of space for them to move around in. That being said, they’re not that much more difficult to take care of!

That being said, I will warn any sunkern owners out there to be aware of this contrast. If or when your little buddy evolves, their lifestyle will go through a pretty significant shift. While a sunkern, for example, could be totally content getting their sunshine on the tiny balcony of an apartment, a sunflora might go a little stir-crazy without a yard. Thankfully, sunkerns only evolve into sunfloras if exposed to a Sun Stone, something that should theoretically be under your control. I will point out, however, that the pokédex describes sunkerns’ sedentary lifestyle as being a part of conserving/building energy and nutrients for evolution: a sunkern may be unhappy if it is prevented from evolving indefinitely. This all really depends on your individual sunkern, but you should really keep it in mind.

In both sunkerns’ and sunfloras’ individual posts [linked at the bottom of this one], I pointed out that neither is exceptionally dangerous to humans. Sunfloras have some moves with pretty high power stats, which affected their score, but the moves themselves are far from lethal. In the sunkern post, I expressed confusion about a sharp contrast between their move set and pokédex entries: they are said to be completely helpless when being picked on by predators, yet, like their evolution, they boast a pretty impressive punch. In the comments, @kitkatkk2 and @athena-is-trans-soda pointed out that there isn’t really a contradiction there at all: sunkerns have pathetically bad stats when it comes to battle. I usually don’t look into stats too much, because I don’t want to overcomplicate my ranking algorithm (thankfully it didn’t turn out to be too much of an issue since sunkern still ended up with an A), but I learned from it to investigate these contradictions by delving deeper into game mechanics.

Personally, I probably wouldn’t adopt a sunkern or a sunflora as a pet. I think sunfloras in particular are really cute, and I think that their relative ease of care is nice. I also bet they smell really nice. But, that all being said, I prefer pets that are more cuddly and social. My read on sunfloras is that they’re mostly focused on seeking out sunshine to survive (the houseplant in them). I like active pets, but I think sunfloras are a bit too much of a one-track mind for my taste.

ASH KETCHUM from POKEMON

Gender identity: agender transfem/agender fem (they/them)

Why would transition save them?: "look i found a picture of ash in a sort of feminine leaning futchy outfit by some artist who's name escapes me, and ash i realized TO ME as an agender person comes across as the kind of person that gender identity wouldn't really...matter to them? like. let me explain, using how i feel being agender masc. so, how i feel being agender masc is like, i'm not a boy, and i'm not internally "masculine" because i don't really feel a sense of gender, but i still get a sort of euphoria from being perceived, transitioning towards, and presenting that way. ash, in my opinion, is the agender transfem/agender fem equivalent of that. in my opinion, ash has no internal sense of gender identity. they don't necessarily perceive themself as ANY gender, but rather as a person and where their gender is is either a blank space or a hole (mainly how i experience being agender). but when it comes to presentation, they get euphoria from futchy to feminine things, and they lean feminine, and they desire to be perceived as, transition towards, and present as feminine. so basically, in that sense, ash in agender transfem in the sense they don't have an internal sense of gender, but they want to present as a girl and don't mind being seen as a girl because they know internally they don't really have much of a care what they're seen as. plus, it would be an interesting parallel to the very binary trans girl coded even in the anime misty, because honestly a trans girl reading of misty is SO easy to come across and a nonbinary transfem contrasting a binary transfem experience is so interesting and needs to be explored in fanfic. namely by someone who has more pokeani knowledge than i."-mod @sunkern-plus

Bon and Bonnie + bonus of Bonnie and Fox in their casual clothes

Ok so I'll admit it, the whole Fox thing is bc of Bonnie (if I do something know I'll always find a way to make it about Bonnie lol)

I made Bonnie a dragon gym trainer for two reasons: the first one, bc I liked the idea of Bonnie being a dragon type trainer (more on that later)*, and the second, bc the uniform fits the color scheme I gave him (know that the pkmn designs are leaning more towards my hc versions of the characters), so from that I made a whole story where Bonnie is a galarian trainer who wants to be very best (or at least the best dragon type trainer).

* the reason I think Bonnie as a dragon type is bc it's like a translation of him being a guitarist in the series, as guitarists are generally considered "cool" and the equivalent in the pkmn universe would be being a dragon type trainer.

Some other things about Bonnie would be that he and Fox are friends bc they traveled together when they did the gym challenge, and stayed friends since that. They are both terrible losers but have to hide it in "official" context, that's why there's another set of reaction in the last drawing :v. Also of them both, Bonnie is the only one who can dynamax his pokemon.

Now to Bon (yay). He's an aspiring musician from Paldea, and as such, he doesn't give much interest in pkmn battles. He's a jolly silly guy who wanders around the world looking for inspiration for his art. He gets lost very frequently and very badly, though he never learns his lesson and says it's "a part of the experience".

Pokemon explanation:

Bon: mainly a plant type

Kricketune: bug that plays music what can I even add. (This one comes from a scrapped idea I had of Bon playing the violin instead of the guitar ¯⁠\⁠_⁠(⁠ツ⁠)⁠_⁠/⁠¯)

Maractus: bc the image of Bon playing the guitar and the maractus dancing along around him at the beat is really cute.

Sunflora: biased bc i like sunkern a lot, and it's a very silly critter that fits Bon vibe imo.

Applin: idk. Some rando gave it to him in one of his trips with no explanation, and he decided to keep it.

Bonnie: dragon type

Fraxure: midway Evo of a big dragon, one of those grinder pseudo legendary. Of course he would want one to show off his skills as a trainer.

Vibrava: midway Evo of flygon. I think flygon is a really great aesthetic match with Bonnie. I even kinda wanted to give the glasses some goggles shape, but the idea is better translated in a picture ig.

Noivern: dragon that fits the aesthetic :p

Goomy: some rando asked him to take care of the lil critter, who then got attached to Bonnie. Bonnie doesn't like that he has to be more careful with goomy than his other pokemon.

DAN HIBIKI from STREET FIGHTER

JUSTIFICATION:

"Although I personally headcanon them as nondysphoric genderfree (as in lacking gender in a fluid, free, whimsical way) I can see so many cases for Dan to be a trans woman or transfeminine nonbinary it's not even funny. To start off, although their appearance is heavily based off the very masculine Ryo Sakazaki and Robert Garcia (albeit chubbier than the two), their personality is based off the very much a tomboyish with a girly streak girl Yuri Sakazaki. In addition, starting from IV onward, they say lines that very much imply they lean in a transfeminine direction, albeit without changing their pronouns like an onee character (those characters are typically transfeminine or transfeminine coded) would. For instance, in one of their winquotes to C. Viper, at least in English, they say "you're a businesswoman? That's what I do too!" Implying they at least partially see themselves as a woman. Street Fighter V takes this even further with lines in the shop quotes (they run the in game shop) implying they have worn schoolgirl skirts, implying they want to wear a bikini, and even saying "You know who would look hot as a woman? If you guessed me, give yourself ten points!" in reference to the Demitri costume Ed has as DLC. The Japanese version of this quote takes it a step further with them calling themself a "number one bijin" in reference to the costume, with bijin being a gender neutral leaning feminine term for beautiful person. Swinub Sunkirn Fusion

I love Swinub, and now sunkern is a cute pokemon who knew their fusion would be so adorable?! I also learned there is like a database that shows more updated fusions also it seems there are variations of some fusions...so I might look into that for future pokemon fusion art, because maybe there is a combo I like more than the "official" combo. Inktober 52 2024 - Week 31 - 'Bean'

Just a few little drawing this week! Beans are great. So how about Pokémon based on a cocoa bean? Chocolate calf to emulate a chocolate miltank, and a chocolate bunny version.

Pokemon I hope get Regional Forms and/or Evolutions in Pokemon Legends: Z-A

*Wow, this dry spell is...something, huh?*

I'm bored, restless and have no life! So let's do this!

1. Ducklett/Swanna

Swanna is already so lovely, it'd be hard to make a new form that can show it up. But...Kalos was known for introducing a lot of new features for our characters and I admittedly would like some more world building. If we should find ourselves in an City from long ago, I'd enjoy seeing a Swanna geared more towards performing for crowds of people instead of just it's own kind. Maybe Water/Fairy or Water Psychic, using tricks to make a stage for it's dances?

2. Minccino/Cinccino

I mean, look at it! It's a Chinchilla wearing a fur coat! The Reference writes itself! I honestly like Pokemon who look like they're wearing clothing without being TOO on the nose. This Pokemon is a Fashion Icon, imagine if you had to give someone who wants to make a clothing store this Pokemon and seeing bask in the attention on onlookers. A Fairy typing would be quite obvious, but I suggest a Dark Typing instead to reflect the vain fashion designer. Or maybe even rock type to make it sparkle like jewels!

3. Miltank

Tauros got not 1, not 2, but 3 new forms in Scarlet and Violet! I've personally never used Miltank and it feels like it's been a while since it got to flex it's muscles! I'd suggest a full fairy type; one that has milk that is well suited towards cheese! Maybe color it white instead of pink to match some of the French cattle. You could also make it Ice-Type to help keep the cheese fresh!

4. Vullaby/Mandibuzz

Just like with Miltank and Tauros, Mandibuzz has been shown up by Braviary time and time again as of late. (And they technically aren't even related!) Mandibuzz has been sitting in the dust for long enough and it's time for our girl to get her day in the spotlight! There's too many Fairy Types in here, so I suggest a Pure flying type. A Mandibuzz that migrates to Kalos and has it's dark typing purified by the Fairy Aura that covers the region! Maybe make it resemble the Bearded Vulture.

5. Sunkern/Sunflora

Okay...pretty much any flower based Pokemon could fit this slot, but Sunflora's been waiting for a chance for a long time. Look how happy they are! Paris has many gardens full of many beautiful flowers; it feels like a waste to not have a beautiful flower Pokemon. (Floette already got her post) Imagine a large flower that was so tall and had a smile so bright, that it was said that it called the Sun to rise each morning; not Grass/Fairy, not Grass/Psychic but Grass/Fire! Beneath that smile lies a truly warm heart!
