same anon who sent the ask sending you beams and i just clicked back on your blog and saw that other ask.... yikes! so to change the topic, do you have any fun lil plot ideas for gmnt that you havent had the chance to share? or any details you want to elaborate on? i cant remember if youve mentioned anything about the shredder aspect of things yet or not so if youve got any ideas im listening! :]
OMFG THE WAY I JUMPED /POS OK SO .
1st off, with Casey Junior and Cassandra I have had SO many thoughts about them and their family. their designs and basic storyyy:
Tumblr media
Junior and Casey are cousins in this AU but they were both raised by the foot clan - aka uncle Louie and uncle Brutus to Junior, and Dad and Pops to Casey respectively. Junior is a trans dude and because their parents thought it'd be funny when they were born they named them both "Cassandra." When Junior transitioned Cass let him keep the name Casey under ONE condition, that she would remain the one true Casey and that he had to go by "Junior" anytime she was around. Of course they're pretty much attached at the hip so everyone just calls him Junior anyway.
The reason they were raised together is because Junior's parents died when he was 6 and Junior went to go live with Casey's family. They're related through Louie (foot lieutenant if you couldn't guess) and are Technically half siblings since Louie's sister was the one who carried Casey but they never related to each other that way. To them they're just cousins who are basically siblings.
Junior's parents never swore loyalty to the foot clan and although he was HEAVILY encouraged by his uncles to join and put more effort into the clan he never really Cared that much. CASEY on the other hand eats sleeps and breathes the foot - at least as much as her parents let her. She needs a hobby. (One kid is too obsessed while the other isn't obsessed enough watcha gonna do.)
In terms of their relationship to the turtles Casey first met Raph b4 he knew that the foot clan was a threat. Raph just thought that her family were huge sneakerheads that also just so happened to be extremely into martial arts and it's history. Finding out Raph was bigender is actually what caused Casey to first start questioning her gender identity and she's now a she/him demigirl lesbian. YES they are in gay love ofc.
Casey' age: 16-18 (same as Raph)
Junior's age: 14-16 (same as Mikey)
And in terms of shredder it's probably just gonna be a copy-paste canon shredder of course with some minor adjustments. The foot clan still run the foot shack as a front (Junior works there) they're still trying to bring back the shredder. But I'd imagine that Casey turned on the foot clan much sooner than she did in the snow due to her relationship with Raph. So in terms of the finale instead of being redeemed at the end of the episode she would be fighting right alongside the hamatos. This is also my wish fulfillment au in which every character who WAS gonna have a nice complete redemption arc DOES have a nice complete redemption arc cause I don't have to worry abt time restraints.
OH YEAH ALSO THIS MINI comic with splinter and junior talking because they both lost their parents rlly young:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is actually the comic I was talking abt earlier. I wasn't able to finish it when I first started it so each "page" you see is like .... 3 days a part which is why the style is so fucking inconsistent 😭.
Forgot to mention: They are "younger sibling getting taller than you" solidarity. And Casey not being a higher ranking turned into her parents desperately trying not to produce a nepo baby lol

Luke Patterson College Au
Tumblr media
Summary: Just some Luke college! This is more or less if Luke was in college NOW lol IDK if that makes sense, but just pretend it does
Warnings: Man-whore Luke (I eat it up), mentions of sex, mentions of drug use/alcohol use, I'm in love with Luke I'm so delulu
Note: I am literally just working, and I'm bored so typing this on my work computer :) I hope you guys like this one, I've been wanting to make a Luke college au so so badly ;) Also guys I dropped out of college soooo living vicariously through this rn
𓆩♡𓆪𓆩♡𓆪𓆩♡𓆪𓆩♡𓆪𓆩♡𓆪𓆩♡𓆪𓆩♡𓆪𓆩♡𓆪𓆩♡𓆪𓆩♡𓆪𓆩♡𓆪𓆩♡𓆪𓆩♡𓆪𓆩♡𓆪𓆩♡𓆪𓆩♡𓆪𓆩♡𓆪𓆩
Major: Childhood Education
Minor: Music Composition
Was on the hockey team freshman and sophomore year, but quit once his band started getting booked
Can't y'all just see him as the cutest little elementary school music teacher like showing his students his guitar and talking about when he was in a band awww
Luke and Alex definitely have a shared house off-campus and they like throw parties like it's nobody's business
Definitely tried to join Alex's comic book club, but was quickly kicked out because he spilled soda on Reggie's collector's edition of the original Spiderman comics
"Dude, do you know how expensive this was? Like, for real?"
Luke is definitely known as somewhat of a player around campus and pretty much everyone knows who he is. He can usually be found with his tongue down a random girls throat
But, that's what college is about for him duh
He never wanted to go in the first place, but when his parents put that check in his lap to send him to school what else could he do? Especially when his buddy, Bobby, told him about all the hot chicks running around campus
So how do you meet Mr. Luke? Well, you were couped up in the library preparing for this god awful Bio final that has been stressing you to the point of pulling your hair out when you hear some.... children's laughter???
You look to the main double-door entrance and see a gaggle of children that can't be more than 5 or 6 years old barreling through the doors
And what shocked you most was... Luke Patterson leading this wild pack of children into the building??? I guess you had just never taken interest in what his major is or really anything about him, so you couldn't be too sure what his intentions were
A quiet Luke puts up a finger to his lips and begins counting down from 10, attempting to shush the kids he was directing
"Hey guys, can we quiet down please, we can't be too loud in the library! shhhhh"
And you're like is he soft? and good with kids? Definitely not soft (or so you think right now hehe), but he is great with kids
The kids are shuffling around the library, giggling at the pages in the anatomy books while Luke sits at a nearby table
"Are they bothering you? I knew it was a bad idea to bring them here, but I-I-It's about to rain... had no idea where else to take them..."
And you're just like huh? Because one, why is he talking to you, and two, this is not the same douchebag player you thought you knew. But, you end up telling him that they're fine and you continued studying until your roommate, Julie, asked if you wanted to meet up for dinner
You don't end up seeing Luke for a while after the first meet, and you had long let him disappear from your thoughts
That is until your friend Flynn decides to drag you to a party to "celebrate" finals being over (Even though you'd rather be couped up in your room rewatching Scooby Doo if you were being honest)
The house wasn't anything too crazy, donned with LED lights and some old beer cans strewn across the porch
You had been drinking with Flynn for a while, the fresh smell of marijuana and vomit stinging your nose as you waltzed around the house
Your bladder quickly caught up with you, though, as you excused yourself from Flynn for a second to find a pisser because you know you can't hold your pee while you're drunk
So, you're bobbing around sticking your head into pretty much every single room when you finally come across a door at the end of the hallway
You turn the door handle, astonished to find it unlocked, but you let yourself in and...
There's Luke... hands under a tiny blonde girl's shirt as he kissed up and down her neck
"Oh my god, I can... I am so sorry let me just go!"
You shout almost too eager as you swiftly slam the door and make your way back downstairs, ready to tell Flynn the shit you just walked into
But, alas, your friend is sitting on the couch with Reggie, one of Luke's closest friends, you've come to find out so you averted your attention to the kitchen
It was quiet in here, other than the small bits of banter going on around you in the almost empty kitchen
You stared into your cup of whatever concoction Flynn had made you when you're startled by a sudden presence to your left
"Hey, you're the girl from the library right? Sorry about uhhh... the bathroom sitch.... just doing my civil duty haha"
Luke slurred out as he hoisted himself onto the kitchen counter beside you
You nod your head, not really trying to engage with his "type"
"You wanna dance? Everyone else here is so boring..."
You and Luke head out to the living where masses of people were dancing along to whatever rap song was blaring over the speaker
Luke instinctively holds you by the waist as you sway the entire night, especially when you sway to his bedroom and then to his bed and then.... you get the picture
And Luke took care of you that night, kissing your shoulders, looking into your eyes as he kissed up your stomach bro omg I am getting ahead of myself
But, anyways, you wake up and immediately feel TONED HANDSOME arms around your waist and you're like??? because this is definitely not your bed and who is this man?
Your eyes peak out over the covers and you have the biggest "oh fuck" moment of your life because YOU JUST SLEPT WITH LUKE PATTERSON
So, without thinking you swiftly jump up out of bed and search around his room for your clothes, but not before you're interrupted by a groan and a yawn coming from the bed
"Shit..."
You mutter under your breath as Luke peers at you through hooded lids
When did he become so beautiful and why the hell hadn't you realized until now??
"Good morning to you too... You're leaving already? Didn't enjoy the show?"
He wiggles his eyebrows at you are you're like oh... my... god I gotta get out of here so you scurry off without much of a goodbye, but not before Luke puts his number into your phone
This goes on for a while, you sneaking over to his house, sleeping in his bed, waking up in his arms, and then spending the morning talking and eating breakfast. But, no lovely-dovey shit... ever
It had become somewhat of a routine, but for Luke, this wasn't normal
He'd sleep with a girl a few times, but then ditch her before things could get too serious
But now he's got himself a drawer of your clothes, and your smile embedded in his brain
So you're over this one time and you both had woken up rather sleepy due to the events of the prior night hehehehe
And Luke is just staring at you so lovingly and it was different than any way he had looked at you before
And he just instinctively wraps you in his arms and spoons you
You're like
"Luke, didn't we say that cuddling was off the table if we're awake? We're not like together, remember?"
And he freezes and is like
"We're together. We sleep together, we spend the mornings together, we are quite literally the definition of together..."
Aww he just chews on his thumb and looks up at you through his eyelashes and just kisses you
You and Luke are the couple that literally everyone is digusted with
He constantly needs to be touching you and will literally wait outside your classes so he can flash you that geeky smile and chuckle while holding out some food or coffee
He just wants to take care of you in all ways possible
Finally lets you come to one of his band practices and everyone is like
"Wow you're significant other is so cool, Luke!"
And he just gets antsy and is like yeah I know now leave them alone before I get jealous hehehe
Such a jealous boyfriend and sometimes you have to remind him how much you love him and he can get really insecure but he finds that comfort in you
Practically thinks you are gold and literally nothing in this world could compare to you
𓆩♡𓆪𓆩♡𓆪𓆩♡𓆪𓆩♡𓆪𓆩♡𓆪𓆩♡𓆪𓆩♡𓆪𓆩♡𓆪𓆩♡𓆪𓆩♡𓆪𓆩♡𓆪𓆩♡𓆪𓆩♡𓆪𓆩♡𓆪𓆩♡𓆪𓆩♡𓆪𓆩♡𓆪𓆩
Alrighty y'all that is it for now, but I hope you likeeee

Happy Birthday! Been reading TMK for a while and really enjoying it, have you ever shared what inspired the story?
I'm not sure I have, actually, if only because it's not very interesting lol.
A long time ago, I used to play on a lot of rpg forums (where you would post your roleplay responses to each other) and back then there were a lot to pick from. I joined one that had an original fantasy setting and one of the cultures was inspired by the Vikings, which prompted me to do a bit of research. That board folded before I even played my character--which was actually a precursor to Coal--but I guess I found the Vikings in particular to be interesting enough to do more with.
More background and very early drawings below the cut!
This question prompted me to go looking for some of my earliest TMK drawings! Here's perhaps the first Coal drawings with a girl who would eventually become Hedda. For some reason she has a vaguely Asian outfit and I'm not sure why. Perhaps even then I was looking to emphasize the international reach of the Viking period.
Tumblr media
Here's a page where Hedda starts to look like Hedda:
Tumblr media
Now the very early story for TMK is quite different from how it ended up. Coal was always a kind of undead warrior, but how he died and came back has changed. Initially, Coal died defending a village from two demon-creatures (maybe dragons?), and killed one of the two demons. The surviving demon, who was the killed demon's brother, vowed revenge against Coal and intercepted him on his way to Valhalla/Sessrúmnir (Freyja's hall, looks like I never decided which).
This demon, named Fen, was the one who brought Coal back. He could also turn into a ship and control it and turn into a dragon with it (the oars became legs, the sail became wings, etc.). Coal came back with missing memories and had more of a blank personality.
Here's Fen in his demon form and a human form apparently:
Tumblr media
For some reason that I never wrote down, various god items were included on this boat. It wasn't just items belonging to the big three (Odin, Thor, and Freyr) but also Freyja and Frigg and Tyr, etc. The idea was Coal needed to find their human counterpart owners in Midgard to do...something. I originally wanted to do nine items, because nine is a magic number, but after discussing with a friend (hi, Hannah!), I quickly realized that was too much work. Fen was scrapped but the idea of the living figurehead lives on in Rollo.
So the number of items changed to three four and Loki became the main cause of everything. I think I avoided using Loki before because I didn't want my version of him to be compared to Marvel's or whatever, but you can't really do a story involving the Norse gods without Loki in there somewhere. So I just bit the bullet and not only used him, but made him a main character. I think he's different enough to stand apart from most other depictions of him.
Here's me trying to figure out how TMK's Loki should look:
Tumblr media
I realized early on he shouldn't look too refined, but also not as scruffy as the bottom drawings lol. I think when I realized he's not just "The Trickster" but also a father a lot of things fell into place. Also the feather cloak!
Tumblr media
One of the hard things about working on webcomics is how long they take to make, but that can also be a kind of benefit. When I first started TMK I just wanted to make a fun fantasy adventure comic with a bold art style (it's probably no surprise to say Cartoon Saloon's Secret of Kells and subsequent films have been a huge inspiration to me), but as time has gone on and the world has shifted, it's turned into an exploration of toxic masculinity and its effects on the self and the world.
Anyway here's some other older drawings!
One of the first Ibrahims. His design was settled almost immediately.
Tumblr media
Arne's design also came together pretty easily. I dunno what that old man at the top is for...
Tumblr media
Anyway I hope you've enjoyed this lil jaunt down memory lane. Thank you for your question and birthday wishes and, of course, for reading the comic. <3

Hoo boy, so how long before we get potential discourse on how this comic contradicts the established Crash Bandicoot timeline?
After all, Crash Purple/Spyro Orange had Ripto and Cortex meeting prior to Rumble ever being a spark in Toys for Bob's eyes.
I would say spin-off games in the series are kind of loose in terms of the canonical narrative, but Crash Bandicoot has kind of been an exception to that rule, in that characters first appearing in the forty billion racing spin-offs seem to return (Oxide) with implication that said spin-off happened, or the rest of the games supported extensive cutscenes and an actual plot that it stands to reason that they could all feasibly have happened canonically.
Rumble seem to follow in that; there's no plot to be found within the game, but these comics have served as nice bits of lore for us to chew on. There's not much to hone on, but would I not be a foolish student of Crashology to leave even the shallowest narrative uninterpreted? Unexamined? Left to rot in the sun like that?
I never bought the idea that Crash Bandicoot 4 was meant to be a thorough reboot of the franchise sans the OG Naughty Dog games, because there really wasn't much to contradict that latter games after Crash 4 still couldn't happen. Dingodile joining up with Crash's team (at the least, pragmatically, he seem to be a neutral force here driven by circumstances more than anything) might be the closest cutting off point since he's working for Cortex come Wrath of Cortex (Crash 4 never explains why he quit the ol' mad doctor's group, he just did for some reason), but now that Rumble's out, particularly with this comic, I'm now beginning to wonder if this is the creators' way of essentially wiping the slate as clean as they could and starting the franchise off from scratch.
And I think it needs it.
Oh, for sure, I'd argue it's yet another reworking of the franchise (Crash of the Titans kind of felt like one, even if, as far as I know since I never played it, they don't technically disown the timeline prior to its release) to revitalize and retool the poor series yet again, but this time, there's been a decade long gap - long enough for fans to lament what could have been, what we wished, and eventually, move on from it (well, some of us anyway.)
I was ready to call the franchise dead in the waters by, like, Year 8, wistful that they didn't get the send-off it deserved. Fact of the matter was, the last few games or so have just been a complicated, hot mess. Nobody seem to know what the hell they wanted to do with Crash the moment it fell out of Naughty Dog's hands. Not from lack of trying (and some developers did try), but it lingered around as either a pastiche of the OG game, a wacky-for-the-sake-of-wacky that varied in tolerance with its humor, or a sea of Dreamworkian pop cultural references - it was a mess. It was a HOT. MESS.
THIS comic, however, seem to signify that yes, come Crash 4: It's About Time, the whole ass franchise, after a decade of nothing, whih came after a decade of identity crisis, meant not only is this semi-reboot expected, but is downright necessary.
You could arguably just make A New Crash game that fittingly continues where it left off without acknowledging any of the past games, but with the assumption that it all happened, but ripping off that loaded, blood-chunked bandage for something visibly new, is probably the best this series, at this time, is going to get and ultimately needs.
Cut off the excess and start from where it was at its most simple, then slowly reintroduce the latter Crash elements. It does suck, if you are a fan of the latter-era Crash fans, to essentially be told after CTR that the rest of the games after is potentially no longer canon (Crash 4's announcer during the end credits certainly lampshades it, too.) This comic pretty heavily cements it, but man, it already does it so much better by introducing Ripto back into the Crashverse in just two pages of a comic versus an entire GBA game where he and Cortex... somehow share a universe and just... team up, I guess???
Of course Ripto crashes the party via a portal. Crash and Spyro's worlds are two vastly different places that sharing it together, while not impossible in the right hands, is tonally contradictory. Spyro's world is fantastical whimsy, Crash is sci-fi madness.
And it isn't like latter Crash characters cannot return. Crash 4's ending showed that absolutely CAN be the case.
Tumblr media
Guys. GUYS. Nina's still here. Those two awful chicken announcers are still here.
The OG Crash games never really had the deepest stories, with only literal floating heads occasionally spouting the next motive. Having Crash 4 start from there WITH an elaborate narrative is probably the best starting point. There is no reason why any of the others cannot return in new, interesting roles while paying lip service to their older roles.
Setting aside complicated feelings on reboots notwithstanding, Crash Bandicoot really did needed a reset button, and if it means retooling the established canon in a metaphorical Crisis of Infinite Earths way, then so be it.
So yeah, the comic basically told us Crash Purple/Spyro Orange did not happen. And damn it, I think that's for the best.
Tumblr media
On a final note, love this panel. For sake of gameplay, you're allowed to pick whichever character you want, but Rumble's lore seem to imply that villains stay on their end while, presumably, the heroes stay on their side. I guess Ripto serves as a third wheel who decided to muck things even further.
Also, I think Brio is saying Spyro's Japanese translated name, which is amazing cuz' anyone with basic Spyro trivia knowledge knows Ripto's name came from how the Japanese letters look when spelling out the purple dragon's name.

TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES #150 (FINAL ISSUE)
April 2024
By Sophie Campbell, Kevin Eastman , Vincenzo Federici, Fero Pe, Dan Duncan, Ronda Pattison, Luis Antonio Delgado, and Shawn Lee.
Tumblr media
Donatello... does things. Venus does things. The other Turtles are there somewhere.
Tumblr media
SCORE: 5
It's not an easy issue to discuss without spoilers... so what can I say here?
The book finally solves a plot that started with the first five issues of volume 5 (and specifically, issue 50). But overall, the story is a little too abstract and I'd be surprised if people could look back and explain this saga to me without getting lost (something that happens to me any time I try to remember "Final Crisis")
I got lost many times. And the fact that new characters were introduced in this issue just to make up for the missing turtles, made it all the more puzzling.
This is not the ending that this volume deserved... I think there is something valuable here, but I am afraid it didn't make it to the page intact. This sounds too abstract on the page, and characters are just going with the flow. It's almost like someone cut the number of chapters by half and this was the result.
There are interesting moments, visually. Like a whole sequence that takes place at the beginning of this run (with guest star Dan Duncan). And another beautiful moment by Sophie Campbell. The rest was good. Fero Pe is definitely the highlight for me.
Spoilers after the break...
Tumblr media
Jennika, Mikey, Leo, and Raph are not in this story... did we really need three more turtles? I guess they had the know how necessary to defeat Armaggon, but this felt like the wrong time to introduce new characters. I would have preferred the five (and Venus) Turtles fighting together.
Tumblr media
Still, it was interesting to see this volume's version of making characters permanent (in the Mirage books, ink did the trick).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Things got a bit too abstract at this point. I couldn't understand what was happening to Armaggon anymore.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I am sure Armaggon's story is all a metaphor for humans not leaving things alone, or something similar, and I can recognize the story beats. I am just... a little confused on the how.
Tumblr media
It also seems like Lita is not turning back to Turtle (her QNA was absorbed by Bob from the future... who was left in Feudal Japan, I think...?)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So Venus was in charge of helping the Hamatos reincarnate, and then she joined Yoshi and Shen in the afterlife. Well... she could definitely reincarnate!
I have to make sense if Sophie's run, and knowing how it ends will very likely help me follow the story better. While this Armaggon plot started with this saga, there are several moments before and during Armageddon game that made this story so hard to follow.
There is one question I have left, though... what was the role of the mutagen in all of this?
Something was different about Splinter and the Turtles, and that was why Slash was initially a savage. It wasn't until they added a special component to it that Slash became intelligent. Is that now present in all types of mutagen? Sorry for the tangent.
I think overall, Sophie's run was good. It had an indie feel that reminded me a lot of Volume four. She was only going to do 12 issues and her run extended until the end of the book. Of course, in the middle the Armageddon game happened that took almost an entire year.
I think the Turtles universe became just too big. So big, that the main characters were competing for attention (Casey Jones, anyone?). This is why I think it is a good idea to expand the titles and give more space to the original four turtles. I will be reading Mutant Nation (of course), and I bet it will feel much better knowing that all these characters have now a proper place to grow.
That is, assuming a year from now all the announced books are still going (not an easy feat with comic books).

How I designed a new cover for my webcomic's Book 1 reprint
The cover. It's the first impression anyone has of your comic book, so it's got to make an impact. Which is why I'm really proud of the new cover of Heroes of Thantopolis Book 1.
Tumblr media
Who are these characters? What kinds of fun and colorful adventures do they get up to? That's what I hope people think when they see the book when it debuts at Cartoon Crossroads Columbus.
But the journey to get to this cover was full of trial and error. Today I want to share that journey and what I learned along the way. Let's go!
The original print cover of Book 1
I self-published the original print of HoT Book 1 in 2016. This was before I joined @hiveworks, and I was using an on-demand printer not really known for their comics, so everything - including the InDesign template I placed the pages in - was done from scratch.
Here's what the cover for the original print looked like:
Tumblr media
Helene and Cyrus are front and center amidst tapestries depicting the four chapters of the comic. It's not a bad illustration - not in the slightest! And the comic sold very well at TCAF 2017. But I think you can tell it's an amateur effort. I may have completed four chapters of my comic, but I didn't have comparable experience designing books.
Brainstorming for the reprint
I joined Hiveworks in 2018. Hiveworks has a lot of experience independently publishing webcomics. I planned to re-print Book 1 as well as print the first editions of the rest of the comic under their banner.
I had a good idea of the bonus content I wanted to include in the reprint. I had less of an idea of what I wanted the cover to look like. My first sketches were very movie poster-esque:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
All of the main characters are here, with the villain ominously looming over everyone. It felt like an upgrade from the original cover. But... it felt generic, too. It didn't capture what was unique about my comic.
I put preparations for the reprint to the side for a while, until...
Inspiration
youtube
I love the opening of the Netflix cartoon Hilda. I love the music, the fluid animation and the super cool transitions between her adventures. Hilda goes from riding a dragon to dodging viking warriors, running through the locations and characters she meets during the season. It really captures the vibe of the show!
That's when it occurred to me what was missing from my cover. Readers of Heroes of Thantopolis will know that every chapter has a different color palette, giving them each a unique feel. A unified illustration wouldn't show the diversity of color or feelings. But a cover made of flowing segments, like the Hilda opening...
Tumblr media
Now I felt like I was really getting somewhere!
The final cover
Working with my editor Isa (@secondlina), I continued to refine the design of the comic. I wasn't sure what to put in the top left. Isa suggested creating a special version of the logo that flowed along the border created by the Sag segment.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Isa's sketch in green, on the right)
From there, the final cover began to take shape.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Until we got to the final cover that appears on the actual book!
Tumblr media
(Print colors are never as vibrant at RGB, but it still captures that colorful vibe.)
Conclusion
If there's one lesson in my creative life that I've seen play out over and over again, it's that your first idea may not be the best idea. Iteration and reflection improves the end result. I'm not saying you need to waffle over every decision. But rather, tp let your creative juices marinade your idea, rather than immediately put the concept to the fire.
I also couldn't have done this without help from people more knowledgeable than I on book design. Not every webcomic creator has access to print experts, true, but there are communities of webcomic creators out there that pool resources and share advice. We can always learn from other people. And that's why I made this post! I hope you enjoyed a peek into my creative process.
I look forward to seeing you at CXC on September 30th and October 1st! If you can't make it to the show, you can read all of Heroes of Thantopolis online, FOR FREE, anytime you want. Book 1 will be sold online soon!

It's the end of July, so I hope it's OK asking. a Youtuber I know is doing a series about depictions of Atlantis, and of course, wants to talk about Namor. But he's (and I quote) "struggling to find a definitive comic arch or graphic novel to go with." Do you have any suggestions? (I apologize if you've been asked this before, I'm recovering from a sinus infection and don't have the energy to trawl your blog)
Always alright to ask, it's just been taking me some time to reply to stuff so thank you for being patient, I appreciate it. I hope you have recovered from being sick by now and even if you trawled my blog(s) you wouldn't find all the information you needed because I haven't spoken about every aspect of Marvel's Atlantis in depth and I mainly complain and moan about Marvel being stupid and not world building enough. lol. The wiki gives a linear explanation of Atlantis if you need hard facts and summaries but my view on Marvel's Atlantis is that it's a total mess.
As of my current count there are 8 origins/histories of Atlantis. However I'm sure Marvel will squeeze in a few more that make no sense and totally ignore everything that comes before it in the future. I'll discuss the history and different origins further into this post.
That youtuber is struggling to find a definitive arc on Marvel's Atlantis because there is no definitive arc or series of comics about Atlantis, unlike DC's Atlantis Chronicles (1990) which takes time to set up the history of DC's Atlantis in a concentrated mini series, Marvel's Atlantis is literally an afterthought. Even Nate Moore stated how little worldbuilding there is for Marvel's Atlantis.
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever's Producer; Nate Moore; “But in thinking about from a filming standpoint, what’s interesting about publishing is Atlantis feels very Greco-Roman, vaguely drawn, and Namor’s backstory isn’t as interesting as you want it to be. And this is from somebody who’s read all the Namor books. It was like… it doesn’t have the depth that it could have."
I agree and disagree with Moore, while Atlantis's world building severely lacks depth in the comics, Namor's backstory is very original and very interesting. By backstory I literally mean that, his origin story, his mother and father, grandfather and scheming cousins, going to the surface world, meeting the Human Torch, joining the fight against Nazis, etc., if it wasn't so interesting to see then the character wouldn't have endured all these decades. However Moore speaks about Atlantis in this way to explain why they decided to change Atlantis to Talokan, and as you know I'm very pleased with Mcu!Namor & his world, and welcomed those changes because it finally put the work into building Namor's world. Someday I hope we get to see that 400 page Talokan bible that Hannah Beachler created for Wakanda Forever.
As I mentioned in my "Namor was never white to begin with" meta, Atlantis was introduced in Timely/Atlas/Marvel Comics before Aquaman's Silver Age Retcon. However breaking down the creation of Namor and his people goes a long way into explaining why Atlantis wasn't really focused on in Namor's world and why the change in the movies was necessary to bring Namor back to his original non Atlantean origins.
Bill Everett was a nautical enthusiast, and he had a fascination with Antarctica. In Saga of the Sub-Mariner (1988) Roy Thomas wrote several segments that feature Bill Everett's thoughts, and one important factor is that Everett never intended for Namor to be from Altantis to begin with.
It's interesting, then, that you didn't call your submerged world "Atlantis". Everett: No, I didn't want to, because Atlantis to me was another world, a world that existed and I believe it still does, somewhere. I don't think it's alive, but I think the remnants and relics are there somewhere. I think it was a continent that did exist at one time. But the idea of the submerged continent came from Atlantis.
Subby, Bill, & Me by Roy Thomas (Saga of the Sub-Mariner (1988) #5)
Tumblr media
So much of Namor's creatioin is drawn from inspiration; Tha-Korr's City (Antarctic Submerged Kingdom) is inspired by the myth of Atlantis. Namor's wings are a nod to the statue of Mercury/Hermes. "Namor" is "Roman" spelled backwards. Sub-Mariner comes from "Rime of the Ancient Mariner" by Samuel Taylor-Coleridge. If you want more of Everett's history/interviews then I recommend reading Saga of the Sub-Mariner (1988), and Fire & Water; Bill Everett, The Sub-Mariner, and the Birth of Marvel Comics by Blake Bell.
Saga of the Sub-Mariner (1988) #8
Tumblr media
Namor's underwater world was never meant to be Greco-Roman even though Everett draws inspiration from the idea of it. The Greco-Roman Atlantis of Namor's world was added after Everett left the comics. However it was only truly reinforced and expanded by Jack Kirby and Stan Lee in the Silver Age Fantastic Four comics.
January 1949 - Sub-Mariner Comics (1941) #31 - The first time Namor mentions that he and his people are descendants of Atlantis. In context Namor is telling Betty a Tall Tale about how gravity was invented and makes mention of his ancestors from Atlantis, by the end Betty is left with wondering what was truth or fiction from Namor's story, however this was the only time Namor makes mention of Atlantis in those early years.
Tumblr media
In the Silver Age Namor's world is revamped, the people are no longer green and blue, and whatever colors the printers would decide, now they were a solid blue skinned race of Atlanteans from the lost city of Atlantis that sank during a Great Cataclysm. However if you read the first reappearance of Namor in Fantastic Four (1961) #4 you notice he never says Atlantis, only "My Undersea Kingdom"
Tumblr media
Marvel's many Atlantean Origins:
Fantastic Four (1961) Annual 1 we finally get the first origin. Namor, declares to the Fantastic Four that he is from the Empire of Atlantis, and later while Namor is disguised as a human scientist, he tells the world the origin of Atlantis, about his father and mother, and his own birth.
Origin #1: The Atlanteans were a sub-sea race of homo-mermanus, nomads who were born and lived in the sea, and they developed as surface nations do, they settled, built great cities, their people developed and created sciences and weapons, etc. They were a Myth to the surface world.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
As Namor's stories continue in Tales to Astonish and The Sub-Mariner, you see the cities are built and the Atlanteans are all dressed as an undersea fantasy Greco-Roman style, they worship Neptune as their god, and speak in a very archaic manner.
In the 70's Bill Everett came back to work on Namor comics in The Sub-Mariner series, however he was struggled with his health due to his life long alcohol addiction, he had quit drinking years ago but his health continued to decline until his death in 1973, and because he was working on Namor comics at the time he wasn't able to complete the required number of pages Marvel wanted, so after the main story Marvel had small mini stories of Namor's youth, and a later a segment called "Tales of Atlantis".
The Sub-Mariner (1968) #62-66
Origin #2: Atlantis was a Island Nation that was caught up in a war with Lemuria, the Deviants & Celestials, which leads to their country sinking into the sea, where later a young water breathing warrior stumbles across the lost city of Atlantis. The warrior has a vision of what Atlantis was, and what it will be, and then decides to go back to his people, the homo-mermanus, and make them give up their nomadic ways to settle in the sunken city and create an empire.
Tumblr media
Now this is where things get confusing and never stop being confusing for any fan of Namor's comics. Why? Because Marvel does not have all of the Atlantean History in a neat and tidy comic series like DC does, every instance of Atlantis and its history is split up among several comics series and books, and Marvel confuses things further by including Conan's Era, the Hyborian Age, which is meant to be in very distant past and they have Namor's Atlantis be of that Atlantis and there's Celestials, and Deviants, and Lemurians, and Amazons and on and on. It's a soup of "whatever" thrown in.
This would confuse any reader because so much of the Atlantean history is contradictory. No reader is going to know they need to read Conan to get a backstory on Atlantis before the Fall (The Great Cataclysm). No reader is going to care about the Space War between the Celestials and the Deviants or the Lemurian Deviants, or care about the copy/paste Lemuria which is just Atlantis but in the Pacific Ocean and it sank at the same time as Atlantis did. No reader is going to follow every comic to get the full picture. If we just read Namor comics its confusing enough, let alone adding in more. Not to mention Marvel's additional Marvel Universe books. It's safe to say from now that Atlantis is an afterthought and made up of a patchwork of stories over decades where no one cared about continuity or sense.
After all how is it we went from an evolved sea people to a island continent people who's city fell into the sea and then is found by those same sea people and the warrior is the spirit son of the fallen king and queen. See how confusing that is? But wait, it gets worse.
Saga of the Sub-Mariner (1988) #1
Origin #3: Now it's Deviant Lemuria who challenged the Celestials who punished the Lemurians, and Atlantis is caught up in the crossfire of that war. This origin follows the Tales of Atlantis origin.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This next origin goes more into detail between the Elder Gods, the war between the Celestials & the Deviants, and Lemuria. The important thing to note about this next one is that this is the first major Crossover Event to happen at Marvel comics, by crossover event I mean a comic event that spans several different comic series/characters and this is a very confusing, long winded series, thats is found in the Annuals of different comics, however it does touch on the Atlantean Origin.
Atlantis Attacks/Atlantis Rising (1989-1995)
Origin #4: The War between the Celestials & the Deviants cause Atlantis to fall into the sea. Uncanny X-Men (1963) Annual 13
Tumblr media
During this event Morgan Le Fay raises the sunken Atlantis from the Sea and claims that it's actually Avalon, because in Namor, the Sub-Mariner (1990) #62 one of Namor's ancestors comes to him a vision and tells him that all of Atlantis didn't fall into sea and there still scattered islands left around. Later the island of Atlantis sinks into the sea as well.
So as you can see, the origins are just a tower of unstable blocks, every writer comes along and adds something to it. Now its not just Atlantis, Atlantis is also Avalon. Why. Why does Atlantis need to also be Avalon, why must they be connected at all? I think this got retconned later but I honestly don't care to find out.
Tumblr media
Now this next one is my favorite origin and imo the one that is uniquely Namor's. It's written by J.M Dematteis and drawn by Liam Sharp. Firstly I regard this as the best Atlantean origin because Namor is directly involved, it's an interesting and original take on Atlantis, it brings in so much lore and artifacts in such a short amount of time and it has Cleito who is Neptune's wife as a goddess whom Namor worships as well. Namor's destiny is tied to Atlantis, and this is the first time we actually see him interacting with his destiny as a Son of Atlantis, it's Avenger, it's Protector.
Secondly, anytime Marvel uses Atlantis in the shared Marvel Universe, they twist it to fit whatever comic they are using it in. In Conan comics, in Hercules comics, etc. there are different stories, and while comics are very confusing, its worse when other characters comics are involved. I personally feel that Marvel tried to make Atlantis's history as linear as possible and just cram in all the origins/history but it doesn't work, you can read the wiki for different Atlantean Ages but for me, if it isn't directly tied to Namor then it means nothing. I'm here for Namor. I'm here for Namor's Atlantis. Which is why this Origin is what I consider to be the true origin because Namor is a big factor in it.
Man-Thing (1997) #7-8
Origin #5: Namor has a vision to seek out Man-Thing, who guides Namor to the lost City of the Golden Gate to retrieve & restore the Nexus Fragment. Here we learn that Atlantis was not one country or one Island Nation, but it was an Empire made up of Ten Kingdoms and had Ten Kings of Atlantis. Cleito is the Divine Mother, wife of Neptune/Poseidon (In the comics Neptune/Poseidon are interchangeable, they are they same character who is called by both names, because Atlantis is a Greco-Roman mash up.). Evenor (seahorse looking deity) is the Guardian God. Here we learn that the City of the Golden Gate was the capital of the Altantean Empire. It currently exists both in and out of time.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Namor is then taken into the past, to the capital city in it's prime, sees Atlantis in her Golden Age, and meets with his goddess, Cleito. She tells Namor: "Come forward Namor, and accept the coveted stone that only the Child of Earth and Sea may receive." Namor is given the Nexus Fragment and hears Cleito's words of wisdom, love, and praise.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Then Namor witnesses the Great Cataclysm, the Fall of the Ten Kingdoms of Atlantis, and sees his people drown in the sea.
Tumblr media
All throughout Namor's comics we are told that Namor has a Great Destiny, that he is destined for something, destined to save Atlantis, to save the Seas, to save the Surface World. However in all of the other origins or even in Namor's other comics we do not get any further information of that Great Destiny, except in these two comics we get so much Lore & History; Namor witnesses his Ancestors downfall, and meets his goddess, and for the first time I actually felt that Namor is special. I really love this story and personally I feel this is the best arc for an Atlantean Origin because as I said before Namor is essential to the story, and that's why this story is valuable for his Atlantean Origin. There is more details in the comics, they talk about other artifacts like a Shroud, the past kings/people of Atlantis, etc.
Inhumans (1998)
Origin #6: Triton claims that the Inhumans and the Atlanteans are cousins. Atlantis that was risen by Morgan Le Fay is now home of the Inhumans, Attilan. Inhumans (1998) #9 I don't know or care when the Inhumans and Atlantean cousin origin started and it might have just been mentioned in this series.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And why not, why isn't Atlantis also Avalon and connected to Attilan, at this point I'm just waiting to make sure Atlantis isn't also Asgard as well. /sarcasm. Marvel, we do not need every magical/superhuman place to also be Atlantis. Anyways we aren't done yet.
The Incredible Hercules (2008) #123
Origin #7: The Atlanteans hired Amazons to slay Gorgons for them, instead of paying them their due for their work they killed some of them, and used magic to try and protect themselves from the Amazons retaliation, however the magic was too strong for them so as Atlantis sank into the sea they used their magic to turn their people into water breathers.
Tumblr media
Finally we come to the final Atlantean Origin.
Namor: The Best Defense (2018)
Origin #8: Namor travels through tunnels and is transported to a world of water, where the Vodani live. On Vodan he meets the king and his daughter, the princess, and attempts to get them to rejoin their people with the Atlanteans. The Vodan King sets Namor to a test, kill a giant beast, when Namor and the princess do so the King still refuses to join with Namor and attempts to kill him while informing him that all Atlanteans are descended from Vodan. That Vodan is the true homeworld of the Atlanteans.
Tumblr media
This origin is my most hated because it goes against everything that I believe Atlantis should be set in. 1. It makes Atlanteans space aliens. I hate that. I hate Atlantis being connected with space stuff. 2. It flies in the face of what Everett intended Namor to be, he wanted Namor to be the opposite of Superman, superman came from another planet so he had Namor be from Earth. By making the Atlanteans from Vodan it severs the last tie Namor has to Earth. After all if Vodan is so great and its a entire world made of water where the Vodani are so safe then what's to stop the Atlanteans from simply returning to their home world? In the comics Atlantis is constantly destroyed by events, and enemies, and bombs, and poisons, so why would they rebuild Atlantis over and over and over again? I just really really hate anything Atlantis being "Space Aliens". I also hate the Celestial & Deviant Lemuria war origin, and I hate the Amazon origin, I dislike the Spirit Son origin too, because in the end it over complicates and doesn't add anything to Namor's Lore.
Throughout the years Marvel has handbooks that explain Atlantis.
The Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe Deluxe Edition (1985) #1 - Basically outlines Origins # 2, 3, 4
Tumblr media
History of the Marvel Universe (2019) #1 - This Origin also goes along with the Celestial and The Great Cataclysm origins but once again Atlantis is caught in the crossfire of the Lemuria war, and this time Atlanteans somehow survived and Adapted to become water breathers. This differs from the origins of 2, 3, 4 where it says that a race of water breathers were already there but this is also different than origin 7 where magic was used to change the Atlanteans.
Tumblr media
Now stories about Atlantis that take place in Atlantis are found in Namor's books, mostly the Silver Age gives the most focus with an Atlantean setting. However many of those plots are the same, Attuma attacks Atlantis, Namor and friends save the day. Krang betrays Atlantis, Namor saves the day. Some other threat comes up and Namor- you get it, he saves the day. Even Atlantis Attacks both the first and second series that have that name do not focus on Atlantis itself. You find some comics have short panels or issues that mention Atlantean History (events that happened after the Great Cataclysm) such as Emperor Thallo outlawing all clones/the cloning process (Namor, the Sub-Mariner (1990) #20). Or Namor having a very bad time in hell (Namor: The First Mutant (2010) #6-7) and speaking with dead Atlanteans rulers like Empress Rithea. We get Namor's childhood in Atlantis as he grows up but to wrap up this already long post about Atlantis; There is no definitive origin. There is no definitive arc, except for one that I actually feel is a comic arc worth reading if people want a good Atlantis storyline.
Suma-Ket & Artys-Gran - Namor, the Sub-Mariner (1990) #30-40
The Suma-Ket Arc begins in issue 30, with Namor, having lost his memories (again) is found by Doctor Doom, who also finds a woman who looks like and claims to be Princess Fen, Namor's long dead mother. As the arc proceeds the readers are drawn into a dark high fantasy story about Suma-Ket, the Prophet King of Ancient Atlantis. Before Namor's time, and before the time of his grandfather, and many before that. Suma-Ket came to "save" Atlantis from the Faceless Ones, demons with no faces, and the people welcomed him not knowing he probably sent the Faceless Ones himself so he could have a foothold into Atlantis. Over time he and his wife, Artys-Gran, overthrew their king and took control of Atlantis and its people. Both of them were sorcerers, Suma-Ket was a Necromancer who could command the Unforgiven Dead, and Artys-Gran was a Bodysnatcher, trading her mummified body for the body of whomever she chose. They slaughtered Atlantean children in their blood rituals, and ruled Atlantis through death and fear. They used blood magic to try and open the gates of the Demonic Elder gods, and needed royal Atlantean blood to do so. Both were banished along with all their loyal servants centuries ago but they return in issue 36 to take Atlantis once more. The art is harsh, but very compelling and I really love this story arc. Suma-Ket arrives in issue 36.
Tumblr media
King in Black: Namor (2020) #1-5
This is another series that has a great Atlantean arc, and it's set during Namor's childhood with flashbacks to the present day. I really love this series and can't recommend it enough.
Tumblr media
As you know, I love Namor and his world, but I personally feel that Namor's story is more about his character, navigating through two worlds, whose people are a minority and their homes were taken from them. Which is why I'm very pleased with Namor's Greco-Roman Atlantis being brought back to what it originally was, a isolated sub sea nation that sought to protect themselves from the surface world. That's why the Mesoamerican influence works with Mcu!Namor, and why I really feel that we haven't lost anything due to the changes to Talokan when Marvel Comics themselves never really put in an effort for a clear and concentrated Atlantean Worldbuilding.
Anyways, I hope this very long post helps explain things and if you want to check out my art commission of Namor and who I consider to be his Atlantean gods, enemies, and allies then I will link it, and I also commissioned a Talokan art. ( Atlantis / Talokan )

Hi! This is another Fandom Trumps Hate post for people who are thinking about joining up as a creator but aren't sure. I'm not making this one rebloggable because I'm going to talk a little about my personal experiences with fan events in general and FTH in particular over the years (feel free to link a friend to this post, though, if they're on the fence about participating).
About 10 years ago now, when I was very new to online fandom, I didn't know how to feel about fan charity events. Some of them seemed kind of shady (and some fan-run things are shady, let's be real, but FTH's donations go straight to the charities and the mods never touch it). But some of them seemed legitimate, and as I was spending a lot of my free time making fic and art anyway, I thought: didn't I kind of owe my creative skills to a good cause? When I did decide to refrain from joining these events because I knew that I was too busy, I still felt kind of guilty about it.
Now, a little older and a little wiser, I feel pretty confident saying that if you're really not sure or enthusiastic about participating: don't do it. I am personally handing you a "Get Out Of Jail FTH Guilt-Free" card and telling you it's cool if you're too busy. It's seriously fine.
Here's why:
Fan events, whether we're talking about charity auctions or big bangs just for fun, are often pretty significant commitments. Being "required" to write fic, especially being required to follow someone else's prompt can be a very different experience to writing whatever you want for fun. (Not not fun, just different.)
Some people write fanfiction instead of attempting to publish original fiction to become "real writers" because, as they'll talk about on their own blogs, they want to write as a for-fun hobby. Like painting for fun or baking for fun. Just because someone likes making a fancy cake every once and a while doesn't mean that they want to open a catering business, you know? Things can change when you've made a commitment and when there's money on the line, even if that money has gone to charity. There's an added layer of stress.
If you've never written prompt fic on request before, then it's hard to know how you'll find the experience, if you'll find the stress of it a light burden you barely feel or a heavy burden weighing you down every day. Sometimes, you'll end up writing something you're not 100% into. I've had artistic projects (talking mostly about school and work here, not any fan projects) where the idea was fun and I was proud of the end result, but the work itself was kind of grueling because it wasn't what I personally would have chosen to do.
My FTH bidders over the years have always been incredibly cool people who have proposed fun ideas, which I have really enjoyed writing, and they'll often work with you to find a prompt that you love. I have found my FTH projects rewarding experiences. But I'd be lying if I said that when working on a FTH fic, I've never once occasionally thought, "Man, I kind of wish I was working on something else."
You have to be able to resist the allure of your latest plot bunny and finish the current project. If you're really bad at finishing your WIPs or if you're really bad at finishing your WIPs within a time limit (FTH deadline is Dec 31st of the same year), then maybe creating for a fan event just isn't for you. And that's fine!
There's a reason that FTH recommends in their Signup Tips for First-Time FTH Creators post that new creators start with only one offer and to start small. Write a 5k fic, not a 50k one. Draw a single, cartoony drawing, not a 5-page comic in a realistic style. It's a very responsible thing to do to test the waters of an experience before jumping in the deep end.
Part of the stress of these experiences comes from the fact that if you don't fulfill your promise to create for your bidder, you can get banned from future FTH auctions. Big Bangs and Secret Santa events will also ban you (not because of FTH, FTH doesn't blacklist you to anyone or anything). And you don't want to disappoint your bidder! They seemed really cool and you can feel like you're letting them down just if you make them wait too long.
(I promise you that most bidders are pretty chill people. I personally am happy just donating to the charities and I really don't care when/if my creator gets back to me. Their wellbeing is more important to me than a fic or a piece of art.)
If you feel like you won't be able to fulfill an offer in time or if you don't really want to take a prompt from someone else instead of doing your own thing, then it's fine not to make an offer. (Likewise, if you ever have missed creating something for a fan event because real life stuff came up, then it's fine. You're not a bad person. Life gets in the way sometimes. You thought you could at the time. There are other things to participate in when you know you're ready.)
The thing is that creative skills are much, MUCH more valuable than people are putting them on auction for here. If I was charging a minimum wage of $15/hr for my writing skills for what I've done for FTH over the years, I would have made them THOUSANDS. (I doubt I've made them $1000 total.) I participate in FTH usually when I'm feeling at creative loose ends and want to work on prompt fic. I want the collaborative experience of writing something specific for someone else. It's a project that scratches a particular writing itch for me (the stress of a commitment is there, yes, but it's so easy to carry that I barely notice it), which isn't for everyone, and the fact that this event raises some money for charity is kind of just an added bonus.
If someone is donating $25 dollars to charity so that you'll write them a thank-you gift of a 5,000 word one shot that took you at least 10 hours to write, that is NOT a balanced exchange. If we take the $15/hr wage, that is $150 of labor for $25. This is NOT an efficient way to donate to charity. This is a fan event.
Now, some people require a higher minimum bid for their work than I generally do. (Which is good. They are right to do this. I should probably also do this more seriously.) Some people require $100 dollars for a 1k fic. Some people say they'll write 1k words per every $10. There are ways to bring things back into balance and make things more efficient.
So, if you think that a disparity between the amount donated and your donated labor will piss you off, then put serious minimum bid requirements. Your creative skills are valuable. It is okay to enforce boundaries on your donated time and energy so that you don't end up writing 50k of an idea you don't really like for $25, because that sounds like a recipe for resentment. (I keep mostly to myself, so I have never heard of a situation like this with FTH and am just exaggerating to make a point.)
And if people don't bid on your offer? It doesn't mean that your creative skills aren't valuable. It just means that your offer wasn't what someone was looking for at this particular time. (Honestly, as a side note, it's incredible how much the success of a pitch for a book or show or movie depends on just happening to be made to the right people at the right time. I'm serious. It's a very real thing in the entertainment and publishing industries. I have attended talks by people who say that they've had to pass on great pitches specifically because they're looking for a property to sell to 5yo boys that year and already have a property being sold to 10yo girls.)
If you need to pass on participating because you're busy: look after yourself first! Don't end up disappointing your bidder and yourself because you don't have the time or energy to spare. If you can do it, but it means really stressing yourself out and sacrificing other things to find the time: don't do it. Look after yourself. Don't hurt yourself and your creative muscles over a fan event. Breathe. Take a nap. Play some video games. Participate as a bidder if you have the spare money or just advertise the auction if you don't (if you want to). Or just cheer on creators in AO3 comments or with kudos. FTH allows you to make a donation and add it to their count, even if you don't bid or if you don't want to make a bid.
Would you be happy to know that someone was grinding themselves down trying to please you? Don't do that to your bidder. They're your fellow fans, often fellow creators, who just want to chill and donate to charity, and they'd be really upset to hear that you were making yourself miserable because of their donation.
I have never failed to fulfill a FTH offer. I have only participated in fan events when I know I can do it. I have always enjoyed myself. But I work in a creative industry and I have seen a lot of creative people hurt their own passion for something they love or burn out by trying to force themselves to work on things. (I know this sounds very dramatic. I'm not saying you will burn out. You may be totally fine or maybe only lightly stressed at the end. You'll probably be great, honestly. I bet you're a kickass creator. But it's fine to be wary of burn out until you're in a more confident place.) So, to any creative person, especially younger ones, I wanted to write all this out to tell you that it's fine not to do these things. It's not that serious.
Keep fandom a positive space by giving yourself room to breathe and coming back even stronger when you're ready, as a creator, bidder, or just a supporter. If you've already signed up but you want to pull out of FTH before bidding starts because something came up, email the mods. If this extended rambling about burn out has only strengthened your resolve to kick this fan event's ass, then that's awesome! Good for you! I think it's good to reassess your creative energies every now and again, and I think it's fine to say, "Okay, I think I need a break, I don't want to let anyone down," as much as it is to say, "Yeah, I'm pumped up! I'm good to go! Let's do it!"
EDIT: This whole post sounds kind of negative, so to add more positivity: if you really, really want to do it, then I think you should go ahead and join FTH! Just know your limits. It's okay to start small and to set firm boundaries. FTH can be a lot of fun! You can meet cool people! You can feel like you're making a difference! You may end up writing great and rewarding fics that you never would have written otherwise! Plenty of people have joined FTH for the first time feeling really uncertain and had a great time, no regrets.
Don't do FTH just because you feel weirdly obligated to participate because it's for a good cause. Do FTH because you want to do it.
There will be other events.

hiiii everyone! i'm cherry and present to you my little light, ha danbi. i haven't been in an rp for a couple years now, so it might take me a minute to adjust... but i'm super excited to get the ball rolling again. below the cut is a brief intro to this nervous, former daycare teacher. if anyone prefers messaging on discord just let me know and i'll give it to ya!
i haven't made her pages yet, but plan to power through some tonight. like her stats, a lil bio, and finishing up her pinterest board. i'll have all of that linked on the blog soon!
PRE-APOCALYPSE: growing up in a secure environment with parents who always had the best intentions, danbi wanted for almost nothing. almost. facing the boredom of a mundane life took a toll overtime and she was left second guessing most of her decisions, wondering if any of them were her own at the end of the day. straight out of high school and after a year of certification, becoming a teacher at a small daycare was the most confident she’d ever felt in her choices.
POST-APOCALYPSE: only a year into teaching and she’s stuck in the classroom with confused, crying children. petrified by the chaos and reality of it all danbi can’t even move to comfort any of them as another teacher is moving to take care of the few that remain. a few days after the outbreak she’s found herself alone, and amazed she had even made it to the seoul qz in one piece. over the following weeks she starts biding her time in cramped spaces with the situation seeming more and more bleak as the kdrt strengthens their hold on everyone’s collars.
JOINING THE FIREFLIES: she certainly wasn’t physically strong nor did she have much conviction in what she could offer the fireflies, but anything was better than the kdrt’s iron grip in seoul. was she ever one to make a solid path for herself? no, but with people coming and going, and mostly disappearing, she decided to abandon her life there before getting completely left behind. danbi chalked it up to dumb luck or maybe she was more resourceful than she’d ever get credit for as she stumbled up to the gate of busan qz.
VOLUNTEERING FOR DIVISION FOUR: seeing a change in how people were treated under firefly reign, she started seeking a change in herself. when the request for volunteers on an upcoming mission caught her attention she decided to put her name in the hat. mulling the decision over and over again was all there was left to do until then.
about.
she grew up with a few close friends and didn't have siblings, so besides reading or watching tv she found herself bored most days. she read a lot of comics, manga, and watched a few animes when she had time, pre-apocalypse. specifically shoujo animes molded her into a hopeless romantic of sorts.
she is extremely compassionate and has a quiet care for others that might go unnoticed at times. she's always listening and watching those that surround her, and makes it a goal to put them at as much ease as possible.
a talker. it's not always immediate, but once she gets going it's hard to slow her down. she loves lively conversation and interacting with like-minded people, but isn't opposed to arguing her point and learning from others.
she might not be everyone's cup of tea because of her honest friendliness. being too much and simultaneously not enough is something she definitely struggles with. as much as she tries not to be she is keenly aware of how self-conscious she is.
she was somewhat close with her parents, more so her father, and shaped her goals around their ideas. it wasn't intentional on their part, but she was extremely focused on making them proud growing up. she hoped to be as kind as they were. most major decisions she's made were guided by them, so while they supported her teaching career, they were kind of shocked when that's the path she took after high school.
she adored working at the daycare and couldn't have picked a better job. she devoted her attention to the children in her class everyday. she had only been in it for a year before the outbreak happened which devastated her in a number of ways. the fate of those children weighs heavy on her mind and often wishes she were a different person in those moments of weakness. maybe she could've helped them more at the end.
she's genuinely a threat to no one. she doesn't have the headspace to to harm others, and this becomes an internal struggle when she's in harms way. she doesn't have the fight or flight. she just gets stuck in her head and can't make a decision to save her life when it comes down to it. she thinks she's just extremely lucky.
she likes the scavenger role. it gives her purpose in this everchanging new world and keeps her busy/distracted. a bonus is that she gets to bring home little things she finds that her companions might like. along with that she's very organized and can quickly narrow down and find what she's looking for in and out of the qz.
hiding is another thing she's been good at since before the outbreak. you won't find her unless she wants to be found. she likes her quiet time with her thoughts and seeks out spaces for that often.
if she could get her body to move when she's in danger she'd be okay with a knife, but that's on a good day. like a deer in headlights you'll have to drag her away from chaos most of the time. like i said, no fight or flight. she's not physically strong and lacks the training to be physically fit, so she complains a lot when she's having to run or move around heavy items. she'll always try her best though.
she can be a little bit of a crybaby and isn't afraid to let the waterworks start. she cries a lot. happy? cries. excited? tears up. someone broke a favored item of hers? crying. someone else starts crying? she's choking up.
connections.
we can move these around or combine them however! just some ideas that we can play around with.
someone that doesn't necessarily care for her, but danbi doesn't get the hint and keeps trying to make a connection
a brief romance before the outbreak that fizzled out and it was just one of those timing things, but she never really got over it
someone who takes advantage of her kindness and lets her believe they have only the best of intentions when asking for favors around the qz
someone who helps her get a better grasp for combat and tries to help her get around freezing up. maybe it's one of those things where they'd rather not spend their time on her, but they're like you've gotta stop turning into a rabbit and just standing there. you're gonna get yourself or me killed because it's somehow always me dragging you along
for now that's all i've got, but i'd love to hear from everyone! i'm down for literally anything. like this and i'll come to you for some plotting, or feel free to go ahead and shoot me a message. thanks for reading c:

Glad some people liked the silly comic, i had fun making it!
By the way! Asks are open! Feel free to ask me to doodle anyone you'd like from the jrwi PCs, even Fated! But since as of now I dont have any requests I'll be making another poll! But this time im adding!! [Faint drum roll ] Fated!! Prime force!! Apotheosis!!!! I just mentioned them for a reason, I'm just a doodle account so I of course won't talk about anything drama related to it, just the characters so don't ask me for info or anything, the person who runs this account wasn't there and joined around late/mid 2022,
if you'd like me to absolutely never touch fated I won't, as a group though, since i wont take everything down because of one person, nothing crazy just like 3 to 4 people asking, and I'll totally do that lickity split! I know the risks I took with this poll and I'll take account if it all goes to shit and I have to remake it, a poll like this won't take too long to remake so I'm definitely not going to be mad/srs<3
Back to the poll! Doing trios now, and comics aren't always guaranteed unless it is, of course, an ask, but nothing crazy like a 5 page doodle of Dakota and Garfield eating lasagna and talking about deep mind boggling ideas.

HOW’S MY PORTRAYAL?
TERIOS IS ADORABLE I LOVE HOW YOU PLAY THEM SMSMSM
TINKER IS REALLY GREAT HE'S SO KIND AND HEARTFELT AND OH MY GOSSSHHHHH
i can not say much for the characters i dont know but i CAN say the whole concept of RiFT and this whole multiversal THING where everyone works for the greater whole
it's so AWESOME IT'S SO AWESOOOOOME AAAAAAA
dont even get me started on torque i can just HEAR HIM IN EVERY POST and it's so incredible to hear and see his reactions to everything it's so great
and also huge props to going through so much effort to put torque into this blog, from the art to the story it's all SO GOOOOOOOD
incredible INCREDIBLE i LOVE IT
excited for more and whatever you have cooking i love seeing your blog aaaaaa
(How's My Portrayal?)
Wow... Just... Just wow... That means so much. I'm really glad that not only do you enjoy the portrayal of my muses, but also like the story I made to bring them together.
It's funny how this all started as just a canon divergent Bass.EXE rp blog that grew into a Multimuse. Even back then, I knew I didn't want a new muse to just pop in out of nowhere. There was always a story of how they came to join the team, which is why I usually give them an introduction page for them to explain how they joined in the first place.
I've always been a sucker for crossovers, but it was probably Into the Spiderverse that gave me the idea to make a Multiverse for my blog so I wasn't just limited to Megaman Battle Network muses on my blog. (I think it also makes it appropriate that Peni Parker and SP//dr eventually became muses here)
I also knew that with the Multiverse, I didn't always want to bring in the canon version of a muse. That's why I threw some curveballs here and there, such as a Duo.EXE who valued the good in the world rather than focusing on destroying all the evil in it, even if it meant destroying the good that comes with it. But I'm also a huge fan of redemption arcs, and I love bringing in a muse that was on the evil team, but clearly wasn't evil themselves, such as Storm Eagle and Elise, and give them proper arcs to redeem themselves rather than have them killed off like in canon.
And Mr. Tinker... I really loved the character when he was introduced him, and even though it was inevitable that he would go back to being Dr. Eggman, it still made me sad to see Mr. Tinker leave. That small moment when Eggman considered going back to his life as Mr. Tinker did spark some inspiration, but it was this comic made by SkullxCake and wonderfully dubbed by Swordtee40 and his crew that made me want to explore the idea of Eggman remaining Mr. Tinker after getting his memories back, thus making him a muse here, so I think we have them to thank for that.
Terios is an interesting case. I wanted to have Shadow as a muse, but didn't want Shadow as a muse at the same time, so I thought I'd use a Shadow Android instead. And this would work since I already had Mr. Tinker as a muse at the time. But I didn't want to just make him a cabon copy of Shadow, neither, especially since there were already so many other Shadow RP blogs out there. So I thought it would be best to give this Android a clean slate and have his own personality that's different from Shadow's. So I went with giving him a childlike personality since he was activated not too long ago. In a sense, he's a lot like the early days of Emerl, being a childlike like learning robot. Also kind of fitting that he sees Emerl as a brother. And to further solidify the Shadow Android being his own person, I gave him his own name, which comes from what Beta Shadow was originally called; Terios.
And man, was I an instant fan of Freedom Planet when it came out. I loved the gameplay, the story, and the characters, and it was a dream come true to get to interact with Freedom Planet muses like your Carol and @lilmissheropants Lilac and Milla. I was a little surprised that I didn't have a Freedom Planet character sooner, but I also knew it was because I didn't know at the time how to make it work with the Multiverse story at the time... But then I remembered one of my favorite characters that didn't appear in Freedom Planet 2 was perfect for the story. I've yet to see a single RP blog who had Torque as a muse, and wanted to change that. And since we don't know much of what Torque's been up to in Freedom Planet 2, I wanted to explore that. I'm glad I'm doing well portraying him because I enjoy writing him. The same can be said for my other muses like Terios and Mr. Tinker.
Again, thank you for the encouraging words. I want to become a professional author someday, and I feel role-playing is a way to improve. It's such an honor and a privilege to be able to write alongside talented role-players such as yourself. I sent it in already, but I'll say it again; Your portrayal of Carol is amazing and is a joy to see on my dash. She's just as cool and funny as I remember her in the games, but also made cooler and funnier with what you add to her. I can't wait to see more. And even though they aren't official yet, I also love the small bits of Neera and Cory you've done as well. Stay awesome and keep up the great work!

it has been a while since I've dropped random au snippet first drafts
emerald wingfic but like. .. a fire emblem au for reasons i cannot succinctly explain
The tent was nearly silent. There was the ticking of a pocketwatch (the time was near midnight), the occasional crackle of the lantern (there was one between them, currently tucked beside Technoblade's pillow), the flipping of pages (he had the foresight to bring a book).
It was a good idea. Phil brought nothing to distract himself with. Techno had offered some of his reading material, but they didn't quite entertain him for long.
He sat up in his bed, looking to his companion. "Techno, could I ask—," Phil began slowly, but before he could, Techno cut him off with a hum in agreement. He slid the lantern across the canvas floor, across to Phil.
Phil laughed quietly, twisting the dial until it was as dim as could be before the flame would be snuffed out. Techno raised his head, blinking as he waited for his eyes to adjust to the darkness.
"A favour," Phil finished. Techno watched as Phil glanced away, silently refusing to meet his eyes.
"Yeah," Techno replied cautiously.
Phil stood, walking carefully to the tent's flap, fastening it closed. He took the lantern once again, now fully snuffing out the flame.
"Are you just gonna be cryptic about it?" Techno asked, watching from where he lay.
Clearly, he would. Techno scrambled to sit up as Phil approached his sleeping bag, sitting down to join him.
He only understood as Phil, still unspeaking, unbuttoned his shirt. [EDIT NOTE and underneath he wore. uhh. words. something 2 compress. reverse corset. backwards binder.]
And Techno knew what he was looking at. He opened his mouth, but Phil watched him from the corner of his eye.
"The tents are thin," he warned, though Techno knew it was more of a plea.
He didn't understand it, really. But it wasn't his call to make. Phil was... guarded, he supposed. And maybe he had reason to be. They never really talked about it. They never really talked about anything, really, not anymore, not like that. They knew what they needed to know, and did what they needed to do. It was as simple as that.
It wasn't simple.
Phil carefully undid the lacing, gritting his teeth. [Wing. he got wing. They do not look particularly good.]
Techno did not stare. He didn't say anything, either, in fact. Anything he could say seemed comically inappropriate — regularly he would be fine with that, but he didn't want to put his foot too far into his mouth regarding his friends' insecurity, he supposed it was. A reasonably founded one, nonetheless, but still.
"So," Techno began, as casually as he could.
"Could you give me a hand?"
"Uh, sure." Techno nodded, shuffling closer. "Actually, how does, like... how do they work."
"What do you mean?"
"Like, you got oil glands, or what?"
As Phil paused and said no, Techno reached for his bag. Rummaging through it, he produced a small metal container.
"S'alright. I got some. For the pegasi," Techno said. "They're, uh, too big, y'know. Their necks don't reach. Gotta make sure they're in good condition."
Techno hadn't been an animal handler for a long time. He was the most experienced man in the church's forces — possibly more experienced than most of L'manburg. He toppled a government when he was just shy of a young adult (it was more complicated than that, he'd argue, but nobody seemed to have any of it). At the side of Phil — and his innate authority over this magical birthright nonsense —, they were the only ones fit to lead the war effort.
He wished he could go back to the simplistic life at the [magical upper-class school]. Or before that. A vagabond, a wayfarer, and a child.
It was no use to think about. He couldn't help it.
He glanced to Phil, idly stretching his wing, inspecting the feathers. Techno looked down to the small pot in his hands. He supposed Phil must have felt the same.
"Picked the right guy for the job," Phil noted with a laugh, breaking the silence.
"I've got experience," Techno agreed. "Took care of Jeff for... a while." [phil's magic pegasus. pegasus archers are a fire emblem class. cc phil names everything dave or jeff pensive so cphil gets jeff the pegasus.]
He hesitated when he thought about. Phil looked aside once more. There were other pegasi in the stable, Techno didn't know why he called out Phil specifically. Well, he did, but he felt a twinge of guilt.
He didn't blame Phil, really, for leaving as long as he did.
Techno moved to behind Phil, sitting down cross-legged behind his companion. With a perhaps not as casual as intended prompt, Phil outstretched his wing, letting Techno see. He'd never really gotten a good look at them before — he'd seen them, briefly, but Phil was very reserved.
He tilted his head, looking closer. They looked, unsurprisingly, like wings. Something, still, seemed wrong about them. Feathers had fallen onto the sleeping bag, with more scattered around the garment Phil had discarded. Though appearing a coherent deep black, upon closer inspection it was littered with grey. Perhaps it was an aesthetic thing, some pattern that Techno was missing. Or maybe that was just how these feathers worked. He didn't know.
He reached out to touch one, taking it gently between his first finger and his thumb.
Phil swore, with a very obvious attempt to stay steady.
"My bad," Techno apologized, unsure of what he had actually done wrong, but sure he had nonetheless.
With a lighter hand, he looked closer, leaning in. Phil's wing jerked harshly, swatting his hand away. Technoblade was quick enough to move his face.
"Mate," Phil pointedly said, "at least warn me, c'mon."
In his hand, Techno held one half of a feather. It broke cleanly off. Upon inspection there were a few drops of blood — it seemed like it was just finishing growing, thankfully. But when holding it in his hand he could feel how brittle it was.
"I'm not entirely sure, but this doesn't seem like a good sign," Techno said.
"You just said you knew what you were doing."
"Well, I thought I did."
They both laughed, Phil not truly upset and Techno only a touch guilty. Then, Phil sighed.
"'s not your fault, mate. Just... hurts."
"Yeah, I bet," Techno agreed, placing the severed feather down. There wasn't any bleeding from the piece still lodged in Phil's wing, so it was probably okay to leave it there.
"Seriously, though, it's not looking great," he said, now taking his hand and brushing it through Phil's wing. He tried to watch him, seeing if it hurt, but his friend stayed unmoving. The feathers were not soft to Techno"s touch.
"You've got a, like... stray cat look. And the individual feathers are kind of rough."
[more editor notes. this was titled "this is a metaphor for emotional vulnerability", as this is a metaphor for emotional vulnerability. the tension is also bc in fire emblem, as this is originally an au around, there is A Timeskip TM TM in which everyone sort of splits up and Then get back together and go to war and during this time Phil disappears and now he's back so it's a bit awkward because Techno in this au just... doesn't get Told Things and Phil is doing his absolute best to keep his Situations to himself. hence the emotional vulnerability metaphor. he's gotta let his badly taken care of feathers be looked at because keeping all your problems inside does not help. and it will hurt but it is a necessity. the end]
[also tchno does not fully understand the ramifications exactly but understands that something about this is important for phil to keep to himself. because techno does not get told things in this universe. the ramifications is religious conflict because fe.]

Fanfic Update (and Ramblings)
So the day has come where I have finally completed my first draft.
I said I would get it done because the story haunted me and because I had learned that I am a writer in my heart and that I love these characters enough to embarrass myself with potentially boring/odd plots and so forth.
And now I can finally say that I have done it. My first draft, from what was originally supposed to be a one-shot has expanded to a 60-page monstrosity. I designed the outline into 15 parts specifically to help me tackle my pacing problem (I tend to rush the endings).
And for every section I wrote, for every part I didn't rush, it grew . . . into something that I wasn't expecting.
I procrastinated the hardships of writing for more than a decade now; I joined the fandom and Fanfiction when I was at the tender age of 12. And like any kids that age, my stories (that are still up and published) I feel lack real substance and the writing patterns aren't to my liking, not to mention they didn't garner much attention. I admit this hurt my pride and as a result, I shied away but now -
Writing this first draft, which is the equivalent of barfing on paper, even with all its flaws of which there are many, I feel more confident and joyful than I did then with any of my more polished works.
I understand now the purpose of writing ugly. I understand the point of writing the dreaded first draft. It's a damn coming unclogged for better ideas to flow. It tests different methods until you find or Frankenstein your own method. I can only imagine how the editing process will go, and I'm equal parts excited to start and fearful.
In my outline and in my mind I had an idea of how the story was going to go, but writing it I trusted my instants to lead me and some courses naturally went astray to someplace better. Others are half-baked, but the ideas are rising nonetheless.
I really expected this story to be no longer than 20 pages, and I still expect that as I edit in my 2nd and 3rd drafts for the pages to shrink. I know now that it will be divided up into a 3 chapter arc. Maybe it will be a stand-alone or maybe the opening chapters for my Drabble Sweettooth Series ( oh yes I have a list of stories for these dorks to come).
God, I have barely said anything about the actual fic.
Well, the fic is now currently in what I call its resting period. I have read over other fics I attempted to write in the past and looking back I see the flaws and potential of them all and I doubt I would have, had I not stepped away. So, right now it's gonna rest for a few weeks before I tackle the 2nd draft, where I will attempt to connect the dots and make the story more clever than it actually is.
But, never fear, I will spend this time improving my understanding of quality writing and, most feverishly, practicing my art. It's been far too long since I really sat down and learned how to draw again, and I miss it. I really, really do, about as much as I miss the decade I wasted not writing.
Because there is much fanart I would like to draw of them too, and many other OTPs of mine (tianaxnaveeen from Princess and the Frog to name one, they are criminally underrated) and I will not have anything but the best for my lovelies.
I plan to draw some character designs to support this fic of mine, and as I improve move on to concept art and even comics. They need more art of them as well! Besides, it about time I learned how to draw men and animals.
I'm excited YAY. Months of writing and my heart is light in knowing that I'm doing what writers do - bleeding at the type writer.
Thank you all for following, liking, reblogging, and for everything. I believe these rambling posts/updates help me stay focused too.

10:27 PM 🖇️ wakasa imaushi x reader
— themes. cliché, fluff
— dedicated to @kallikrein and @uuden !! <3 tysm for giving me ideas last night lmfao
Tumblr media
the amount of love comics you've read about high school romance wasn't able to prepare you from the disaster that came in your life in the form of wakasa imaushi.
he is, undeniably, the prettiest guy out of everyone in your class—with his hair dyed rebelliously into two different colors of the spectrum and his eyes that held mystery far more than pandora's box ever contained—wakasa imaushi is definetly a prince straight from a fairy tale.
"stop pulling at my hair."
four weeks into classes and you already wanted to quit. the beauty that sits behind you was nothing more but a demon disguised as an angel sent by god to torment you and make your high school life a living hell. while his handsomely-sculpted face is definetly one handcrafted by god himself, his personality is rather far from an angel you originally compared him to.
"but i'm bored," he claims as if it justifies his annoying actions towards you. he tugs three more times before sighing when he saw you turn around to glare at him with so much intensity that he finally backed off. wakasa slumps on his chair, face buried on his arms that were folded on top of his desk. the urge to play with your hair once more washes over him but he clenched his fists to keep them in place.
he doesn't want to anger you far more than he already have today.
he has time to do that later.
"then listen to the lesson." you replied shortly, returning back to the lecture at hand, listening as your teacher talked about a bunch of numbers you couldn't quite comprehend.
"that's boring."
wakasa takes a peek on the wall clock hanged on the top of the doorframe and it takes every logical braincells in his mind to stop himself from groaning or else their math teacher will notice that one of his students weren't listening at all to his ten-paged long speech about how math is 3.14159265359 percent better than any other subjects.
that's a pi, but he keeps his mouth shut for the entirety of math class for the sake of tasting a wink of sleep.
lunch time rolled in, but when he finally wakes up from his short slumber, he finds your seat empty and he assumes you must have gone to the cafeteria to buy some food like your normally do. hastily wiping his drool, the boy pushed his chair back and slowly made his way to the school canteen. some of his friends from the other class, namely a peculiarly hyper girl and her rather cool brother, waved at him as they made their way to a table—beckoning him to join them while they feast, but he ignores them with a sole objective in mind and that was to find you.
amongst the sea of hungry hormonal teenagers, wakasa is able to find you easily. in the middle of the crowd with a crestfallen look that he thinks does not fit you at all, wakasa sighs for umpteenth time today, muttering "what am i going to do with you?" before he approached you with calculative steps that he made sure won't make it seem like he's eager to get to you.
in the center of the rowdy, smelly, and disgusting bunch of teenangers, stood you, who's lips were tugged down. wakasa thinks you're cuter when your eyebrows are furrowed and a snarl on your kissable lips; most especially if the reason behind your irritation is caused by his antics.
"i like you," wakasa's heart skips and it felt like it was about to jump right off of his chest, but if he was the least bit flustered about what he had just said, he doesn't show it.
you jumped, eyes blown wide as if you had seen a ghost and he wished he had his phone with him so he could take a picture. you really have some interesting reactions, which is one of the reasons why he's interested in you the moment you entered the room and became his seatmate.
"what?" you asked, and you leaned in to get a better hearing. you probably don't believe him—he doesn't blame you for that at all, but it still amuses him how you refused to accept that he really does genuinely like you.
"i said i like you," he repeats. warmth snakes up your neck and it blossoms on your cheeks.
"but you pulled on my here everytime?"
"i don't do that to any other person."
you deadpanned as he shrugs. "you tease me everyday."
"yeah, because i like you."
wakasa repeats for the first time and you realized that he wasn't lying at all. you, despite having read similar confessions scenes in your novel collections, still have no idea how to respond and you settled with closing your mouth—praying that this all must have been a joke.
but the prince-like wakasa doesn't wait. holding your hand with his, he leads you away from the hoarde of students and stopped when you were both right outside the door of the cafeteria. he takes note of how hungry you looked, assuming you weren't able to buy anything with the ridiculous amount of students in line, so he shoves his hand in his pocket to pull out a bread he was saving for later.
"here," he says and offers you the sandwich that was carefully wrapped in plastic. "consider this as a peace offering."
you blinked but accepted it nonetheless. while you still harboured a grudge against the boy infront of you, you still accepted his apology gift because the food is free—and you never turn down free food.
hesitantly taking the bread from his hands, you eyed him quizzically, the apples of your cheeks becoming warmer when you remembered the event that had just occured a few seconds ago.
"did.. did you mean it?"
"mean what?"
this demon. his smart ass should know what you were talking about but still asked just to see you embarassed. you sighed, opening the plastic wrapper of the bread and taking a bite of it harshly, "you know what. t-the... the.. you know!"
wakasa leans in to take a bite on the bread that you were holding, making you seize every movement you've been doing because you suddenly can't breathe at the closeness of his face from yours. he chews the bread agonizingly slow, staring at you through his half-lidded eyes, and you gulped the piece of bread in your mouth. "i meant it."
at this exact moment, you finally experienced the time-stopping moment you've always seen in movies. hoe the world felt like it had stopped spinning, the distant chatters of the people falling quiet, and he's suddenly all you can see.
fuck.
you have no feelings for him, don't you?
then why the hell is your heart beating so fast?
"uhhh thebreadtastesgreatthanksforthebreadgoodbye!" you shoved wakasa away before running to the opposite direction, stumbling a little bit on your feet and he only watched in amusement.
"ah... i just confessed without meaning to." he puts a hand under his chin in thought and shrugged. "i'll deal with it later."

why did Tim need Zatanna to awaken his memory of YJ but not Cassie?
ALRIGHT so this is one I was also honestly pretty stumped by and had been for a while (similarly also about how Cissie remembered) but I think I've connected the dots after re-looking at some pictures I'd taken of stuff from The DC Comics Encyclopedia New Edition (which was originally printed in July 2021, so it's pretty up-to-date).
The reason Tim needed magic to awaken his memories is because he was investigating this stuff before actually coming into contact with either Bart or Conner (who are both from the previous timeline). He had the little bit of information (Conner's name thus knowing he did exist) from his future self plus the things Ulysses had shown Steph + Cass (themselves from the previous timeline) as evidence that something had changed, and was looking into things based on that. Since Tim had not had contact with them though, his memories were still completely locked away in his brain until Zatanna got involved.
But Cassie seeing Bart when she did, right during Young Justice (2019) #1, is what made her remember.
Tumblr media
(Young Justice (2019) #1)
It's a bit from Cassie's page in The DC Comics Encyclopedia New Edition + a bit from Conner's (which the same logic from Conner's would apply to Bart, but Bart only gets a half page in the book rather than a full one like the rest of the core four so I think they just wouldn't bother repeating it) that makes me say this:
Tumblr media
"That quest brought her to Metropolis for college, where she chanced into a fight alongside Tim Drake. She soon rediscovered her long-lost friends from the pre-Flashpoint reality: Impulse and Superboy (Kon-El). Wonder Girl's memories were unlocked as she joined the team Young Justice, and she began to remember serving on the previous incarnation of this team. What she will do with these memories or her Olympian powers remains to be seen." (The DC Comics Encyclopedia New Edition)
Tumblr media
"The world had changed, but Superboy still remained the same. And somehow, when he made contact with his loved ones, they remembered not just him, but the world he was from." (The DC Comics Encyclopedia New Edition)
And this idea is supported by it being after she's seen both Bart and Conner that she says she remembers everything about Young Justice
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Young Justice (2019) #6)
It's a little clunky because the way things are phrased in the above scene makes it kinda seem like she just inherently already remembered, but I think to reconcile this with what the encyclopedia says we can look at it like... since her remembering things when she saw Bart & then Kon wasn't made into a big deal of 'oh shit you are Now Going To Remember' it didn't seem like something unnatural to her, she just... remembered it unquestioningly like 'oh yeah, duh' the way you'd normally feel when you remember something you'd maybe forgotten. So when Tim talks about it as having been this thing taken from his mind, she doesn't at this point think she shares that experience, because she wasn't consciously aware of the memories ever having been taken from her like he was.
This idea of 'Bart or Kon coming into contact with people who knew them before typically will give them back memories of them/the previous timeline' would then make Cissie remembering make sense, as Bart's the one to come get her (tho frankly what she says here does make it almost feel like he'd already approached her like maybe during his little mad dash in The Flash (2016) Annual #2 trying to find his friends and jogged her memory then LMAO):
Tumblr media
(Young Justice (2019) #14)
This same sort of thing is also shown with Bart and Iris, and also with Kon and Ma & Pa:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(The Flash (2016) #759)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Action Comics (2016) #1022)
What Ma says there when asked how it feels, "Like when people say things come rushing back to you." is especially what I meant with Cassie- seeing Bart would have jogged her memory not in a way that felt like some magical force restoring stolen memories, but just like 'oh yeah!' when you normally remember something kinda suddenly.
But anyways, while there's some exceptions sure (like Clark not remembering Conner) in general that seems to be what the deal is. Kon + Bart come in contact with people who were close to them, and they'll start to remember things.
So like, basically if Bart had run into Tim before Zatanna checked in his brain, he probably would have been able to remember stuff just from that interaction. It's just the timing of things that caused the circumstances to be different, because Tim knew something was up ahead of time and that impacted things.
