A week passes in a tense slog. Barrett continues his pandering penance and you wallow in irritation. You want to put it behind you. You want to get past it but every time you do, it just happens again.
If this was the first time, it would be easy but you’ve lost count of all the times you’ve had this fight.
Your menial office work does little to distract. It only allows you to think about all the bullshit. The way Barrett dismisses everything you do and has to list of everything you don’t. The way he can’t see his own flaws or how you’ve never once rubbed his nose in them like a dog.
Is it passive or weak or just acceptance? You can’t say. You just always put up with it.  It’s just easier not to make an issue of every little thing. Problem is, now it’s a big thing.
When you come home, you’re worn out but you still have work to do. Dishes, tidying, cooking. Even your weekends don’t allow you must rest. You need to sort through the bills and go get groceries. All along the way, he’s in the way. You’re not sure he’s trying to help, more so trying to force his way to forgiveness.
You grab a bundle of reusable shopping bags from the cupboard overflowing with them. It only took about a hundred of the things to start remembering to take them with you.
As you shut the cupboard, Barrett’s on the other side of the oven. Watching and waiting. He’d be a lot more help if you didn’t have to tell him what to do. You forgot a mug and to him, that’s high crime, but he can’t remember to pay the power bill without six texts on the due date.
“So... what’s going on today?” He smiles.
It used to be that that smile made you melt. It would make all your troubles flutter away like butterflies. Now it’s just another irk.
“Groceries.” You wave the fistful of bags.
“Oh, cool, want me to come?”
You nearly scoff. Every weekend you ask and every weekend he’s too busy. His pals want him to jam in their garage band or go fishing down at some dirty river. Another tick on the wrong side of the Pros-Cons list.
“Sure,” you shrug. It’s easier to just let him come along. You don’t need another argument and you could use the extra hands.
You shove the bags into the folded shopping cart and put your shoes on. He toddles behind like a lost child. You’re repress a glare as you grab your keys and purse. You’re going to have to talk this out sooner than later our you’re really going to hate him.
He follows you out to the bus stop and you wait in silence. You had a car but it broke down last year. Ever since, he gets a ride off his coworkers or friends and you flash your bus pass. It’s cheaper than leasing a car, even a used one.
You don’t know what stresses you out more; thinking about all the stuff he does or just thinking about your life. You get on the bus and sit near the back. He reaches over to grab your hand. You wince but don’t pull away.
“Nice day,” he says.
“Mhmm,” you grumble.
His attempt at small talk doesn’t go much further. You get off at your stop and walk the block to the grocery store. You unfold your shopping cart and pull out your list. Barrett grabs a bag of gummy bears and dumps them in the cart.
“Those aren’t on the list,” you say.
“I know but it’ll be a nice treat for later. We’ll have some tonight after dinner.”
“Oh, alright.”
You factor in the extra cost and mentally cross off the avocado from the list. You can go without. You roll through the produce section and work your way down the list. Barrett trails behind you.
You stop in the cereal aisle to grab a bag of oatmeal. As you stand, you flinch and cry out at a surprise peck on your cheek. Barrett puts his arm around your shoulder as he presses his lips against you.
“What are you doing?” You ask.
“Baby, giving you a kiss.” You look at him and he grins, “I miss you. I love you. I’m tryna be better, honey.”
“In the grocery store?” You challenge.
“It’s cute.”
“Mm, it’s... let’s wait ‘til we get outta here. It’s starting to get busy.” You glance around at the other customers, hoping none of them noticed his little act. “How about you go grab some drumsticks? Flyer says they’re on sale.”
“Oh, I can do that. Be right back!” He proclaims.
He shuffles off and you shake your head and turn back to the shelves. The store brand on discount is all out. You hiss in disappointment. You search the rest of the selection. That’s the cheapest on the shelf and you really can’t stretch the extra dollar.
You look up at the overstock along the top. It’s right up there but you’re just too short to reach. You give a poor attempt then stand flat on your feet. You peer up and down the aisle. You could find an employee.
“Need some help?”
You turn to face the stranger and give a start. They aren’t so strange after all. You know him. Well, not know-know him. Everyone in the city knows Steve Rogers, the Captain America.
“Uhhh...”
“What’s your brand?” He asks. “They don’t run restock until before closing. I usually come then, less busy but I got... ha, sorry, I’m rambling. What can I grab for you?”
You lick your dry lips and glance at the shelf. You appreciate the help but telling Captain America that you need the cheapest bag on the shelf isn’t exactly dignified. You point to the price tag on the shelf and he reaches on his toes to grab the edge of the box on the top. He wiggles out a bag and stands flat.
“Here,” he offers it with a handsome smile. “You know, it’s made at the same factory as the regular brand.” He taps the back of the bag, “exact same address. I wouldn’t be surprised if they’re from the same lot.”
“Oh, well, er... thanks,” you take the oats and put them in your cart.
“No problem. Sometimes being a hero isn’t very glorious. Sometimes it’s just reaching the top shelf.”
You force a chuckle. You’re sure the Cap’s life is all sunshine and rainbows. Must be a real ego boost to help the little people.
“Well, I appreciate it, Captain.”
“Steve,” he smirks and stares. Your lower your brows and look behind you. Is he looking at someone else?
“Oh, of course. I should go find my husband.” You roll around him and try to shake off the awkward encounter. You look down at your list as you stop at the end of the aisle.
“Hope he’s not lost...” Steve calls after you. He says your name and you crane to look at him. You meet his gaze and blanch. He turns and struts off without another word.
You turn back to your path and slowly leave the aisle. How did he know your name? You replay the interaction and try to recall giving it but you can’t. Well, you’re not exactly thinking straight right now. It’s nothing. You’re just stressed.

Dirty Metal Summer
a Dirty Dancing au
Part 1: Big Girls Don't Cry
Eddie x fem!Reader
MASTERLIST PLAYLIST
It's 1987, the same year the movie Dirty Dancing was originally released. 21-year-old reader is spending the summer with her dad and aunt at an all-inclusive resort in Indiana while she figures out what she wants to do with her life. After that summer, nothing will never be the same. Eddie is in his late 20’s and works as maintenance staff, he is also the frontman for the house band, begrudgingly delivering top 40 hits for the guests, and a secret third thing. When work is over, there is a completely different scene happening at a place the employees call The Hideout. Wayne is the head maintenance man, Chrissy is a metalhead, and a few other surprises. Bonus: Steve as a sexy, tattooed musician because I can't help myself.
my blog is always 18+only, MDNI please. The only warnings for the first chapter have to do with mention of a death of a parent, mention of grief, allusions to depression, a tiny bit of aggression, and alcohol consumption. But please read chapter warnings as the story progresses, because there will be angst, hurt/comfort, violence (fighting), and smut. Reader is called Bird as a nickname.
A/N: this is a rewrite of an OC fic I wrote over a year ago, and damn, I really needed to change a lot because my writing has evolved so much. I know I posted a snippet last week, but it's all been changed. Thank you to those who have been excited about this, I know Dirty Dancing is a cherished film, so I am treating this retelling with reverence, while adding some creative spins, and I truly hope you enjoy. The ST characters in this fic do not know each other in the same way they did in the show. For instance, Eddie, Steve, and Chrissy all grew up together, but I do my best to stick with their original character traits. This first part lines up very close with the film, but after that, it diverges and becomes a bit different. Same story line, but also not.
Part 1: Big Girls Don't Cry
word count: 6.3k
The soft murmur of a talk radio station hummed in the cement gray Mercedes-Benz 560, with your dad behind the wheel and his sister, your aunt Kim, in the passenger seat.  From the backseat, you stared out the window with your headphones on, wishing for rain.  The scenery was what you would expect from a place on earth that everyone considered idyllic, but you’d been exposed to so much lush greenery with that bright blue, theater backdrop of a sky for the last hour that you were starting to get a headache.
You pushed your wayfarer sunglasses up to rub the bridge of  your nose, and then flipped the tape over in your Walkman before clicking it shut to press play.  You were listening to a mixtape you’d made especially for the trip, the spine even said “road trip from hell”, but the first one on side b was Everywhere by Fleetwood Mac, and you closed your eyes for the next several songs.  You were doing your best not to think about how you’d be trapped in BFE Indiana for a whole month.
You were also doing your best not to think about how your mother would not be home when you got back, or worse yet, the fact that you would never see her again.  Never feel her generous hugs in those Laura Ashley dresses, smelling of Shalimar; never hear her voice at the other end of the line reminding you to eat something.
Your aunt said your name and your eyes snapped open.  It was perfect timing because tears were beginning to form at your lash line. She had turned around in her seat and was trying to get your attention.
You pulled your headphones down around your neck.  “Sorry?”
“The lake,” the expression on her face harbored more excitement than you’d ever felt in your entire life.  “Isn’t it gorgeous? We’re going to get pedicures at the spa tomorrow, I already booked it.”
You glanced at your father’s stoic profile and then back to Kim. You felt bad for your aunt, getting stuck on a trip with two sad, mopey fucks who were too depressed to get excited about the things that thrilled normal people.  You were the walking wounded.
“Pedicures, great,” your smile did not reach your eyes, but she didn’t seem to notice, as her enthusiasm doggedly refused to wane.
It had been almost four months since you lost her, and the world was still too…bright.  Everyone was so talkative and alive and you couldn’t relate.
You looked out over the smooth expanse of lake that was nestled perfectly in the trees like you were in some type of miniature scale model rebuild of a town.  Your aunt asked your dad, Owen, if he was still listening to the news, and when he shook his head, she changed the radio station to a golden oldies station and was satisfied with the tune Big Girls Don’t Cry by Frankie Vallie.
“You’ll love this cabin, Bird,” your dad said to you as the Mercedes crested the hill and began to maneuver down to your destination on a narrow, two-lane highway flanked with towering trees.  A big green and white sign welcomed them to Hawkins Landing.  “There’s a whole top floor where you can set up for your lessons.”
You turned away, back to the window, hiding the way your nose wrinkled.  You thought maybe a perk of this getaway would be to have a break from practicing the cello you’d been tied to for over a decade, but no luck.  He’d been forced to give up his dream of being a musician, and now you were expected to carry the torch for him.
You tried to come up with one thing you did in life that was not to please someone else, or boost some idea they had about you, and couldn’t come up with squat.
Besides reading.  And taking long walks with music to clear your head.  Those two were yours, and they could only be taken from your cold, dead, hands.
From the Hawkins Landing brochure your aunt had given you, it was clear that the property was enormous.  Some 30 or 40 guest cabins scattered around, a main house that functioned as a hotel but also housed two different restaurants.  A golf course, boat rentals, tennis courts, an outdoor theater, and a third restaurant situated on the water.  Along with the full service spa, there were indoor and outdoor swimming pools, plus any class you could imagine wanting to take, from salsa dancing and water skiing, to chess and crochet.
Hawkins Landing was like a camp for adults who enjoyed alcoholic beverages.
There was a security checkpoint at the main entrance with two guards inside.  The taller one with the neatly trimmed red beard recognized your father from the jacket cover on one of his many books.  Thrillers mostly, horror if you squint.  He nervously asked for an autograph, but Owen was very polite, adjusting his tortoise shell glass as he took the black marker that the guard was offering him.
After the checkpoint, it wasn’t long before the road opened into an expansive rose garden with a large fountain dead center, and the big main house with its wrap-around porch just to the right.  You pushed your sunglasses up to get a look at the people mingling around, getting the idea that the median age there was 45, and it was mostly families.
The guards had given your dad a foldout map of the property and told him to check in at the main house to get the keys to the cabin they were staying in. The car moved at a crawl at the roundabout, and then came to park where a sign announced new guest check-ins.
Your dad told you to sit tight while he went in to grab the keys, and your attention trailed off to a black golf cart with a white awning that wheeled in like a racecar and took position in front of the Mercedes.  It sat there close to the curb, idling.  You could see there was a woman behind the wheel, and she was looking straight ahead, giving you her profile.  Chin length, dark gold hair, just long enough for a ponytail, and the words “Hawkins Landing Staff” written in yellow cursive on the back of her navy blue jacket.  Where her sleeve was pushed up at her elbow, you noticed some type of tattooed lettering there, and her fingernails were painted black.
Up ahead, you caught sight of someone strolling down the sidewalk toward the car with a hand in his pocket. It was a guy with honey tipped chocolate hair styled in a pompadour with a curl that bounced at his forehead, wearing tan chinos and a maroon, button down short sleeve with the square bulge of a pack of smokes in his front pocket. A tattoo peeked out from the V of his shirt, and there was another design on his bicep. He wore a pinky ring on one hand and rolled a toothpick around in his mouth as he sidled up to the golf cart to say something to the woman driving it.  They bumped knuckles and talked for a bit like they were very familiar, him with one foot up on the running board of the cart.
“Steve, there you are,” from the open window, your attention bounced to a short, dark haired woman who’d just come out of the building and stood alongside your dad on the sidewalk.  A closer look told you that her name tag said Joyce.
The guy with the toothpick in his mouth straightened, smoothing the front of his shirt with his hand.  “Hey Joyce, I was just—”
Apparently uninterested in what he was about to say, she took him by the crook of the arm.  She introduced you all by your family name, and let him know that you were “her special guests”, and you assumed that had to do with your dad being a famous author, or maybe she said that about every new family.  While you chose to not do much else than offer a small wave from the back seat like you had no autonomy, Kim got out to greet them properly.
“This is Steve,” Joyce gestured to him with a Vanna White hand. “If you ever want to take guitar lessons this summer, he’s one of our best.”
“Or, if you just want to have some fun,” Steve’s eyes seemed to be searching Kim’s face, and then he shrugged. “I mean, I run the boats on the dock too, so if you want to ski or—”
Kim got flustered and tried to find her words, fussing with the lapel of her corduroy jacket in a way you’d never witnessed before. “I’m…I mean, sure, who wouldn’t want to be on the lake at a place like this?”
Kim hated boats and got seasick very easily, so you found her new interest amusing.
Joyce politely waved Steve off and he went, albeit reluctantly, backing up with slow steps to wave farewell.  The smile stretching across his face grew wider the longer Kim couldn’t take her eyes off of him. When he was finally jogging up the sidewalk to get to where he needed to be, Joyce continued to try and sell Kim and your dad on the resort, even though you were already booked for the month.
“Sunday night is Bingo night. There’s karaoke in The Antler Room on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and you need to check out our house band if you can.  They’re playing tonight on the back patio, and the rhythm guitar is sensational.  She used to perform with Vixen and Lita Ford,” she handed over the necessary keys and pointed the way to get to the cabin on the map.
“Just follow us,” Joyce said, hopping into the golf cart next to the girl with the forearm tattoo.
They led the way down a long, winding stretch with lush lawn and manicured hedges on either side, littered with people coming up from the pool in their bathing suits.  There appeared to be a Tai Chi lesson happening on the lawn near the rose garden, and some type of painting class going on just above them on a balcony.
Made you wonder why summer people always had to stay so busy.
The cabin you’d be staying in was down a side road, tucked at the end of a private driveway with a view of the lake. It had five bedrooms, which was more than enough, but one of them would immediately turn into Owen’s writing room so that he could work on his latest novel.
You were careful to tuck your Walkman into your bag as the Mercedes coasted into its parking spot.  Squinting up at the place, you were somewhat distracted by how much you liked the creepy, old feel of the whitewashed cabin, and you underestimated how far from the curb you were when you stepped out, stumbling to the side.
The girl with the forearm tattoo caught you in both arms, preventing you from putting all of your weight on your twisted ankle.
“Whoa,” she moved her supportive grip from your waist to your elbow as you righted yourself.  “You okay?”
Your heart shot into your throat, and then you coughed a laugh, covering your face. “What a way to start the summer.”
She said her name was Robin, and there was a polite handshake exchange. She tripped over her words a bit.  “It’s not every day that someone falls for me.”
“Well, I’m pretty clumsy, you might need to stay close,” and the two of you shared a self-conscious laugh as you led the way to the trunk full of baggage.
When you reached in to grab your suitcase, Robin teased, “hey, that’s my job,” before leaning further in to take the oddly shaped black hard case, the satin of her jacket skimming your arm. She struggled with it at first, but then held it up by the handle and gave you a sideways look.
“This yours?” She asked, cocking one eyebrow up. “You’re a musician?”
“No, well, yes I am but no I, I play the cello,” you stammered, not sure why it was hard to get the words out. “But here, I can carry that. It’s big and heavy and—”
Robin winked.  “I got it,” and then she snatched another suitcase with the other hand and shuffled by you to make her way up to the porch.
Once you were all settled inside and Joyce had explained all of the amenities, you and Kim pushed back the curtains and watched the two go from the living room window. Just before they took off in the cart, Robin sent you a wave.
“She looks like a nice girl,” Kim had her arms folded over her chest. “Maybe the two of you could—”
“I know you’re worried about me, okay, but I don’t need to make any friends this summer,” you were holding the case for your cello in front of you with both hands, using it as a metaphorical barrier. “I like being alone.”
By the time you put your stuff away in the bedroom you’d be staying in, your dad was already typing away in his writing room, you could hear the keys of his Selectric click-clacking.
“I’ll be back in a bit,” you called across the rustic but spacious cabin living room.  “I’m going to look around the main house.”
Kim barely caught your words as she was struggling with her glasses to read an ingredient label as she put some dry goods away in the kitchen.  “Mhmm sounds good, have fun. Be back in time for dinner, we have reservations at…whatever that place is called. Your dad knows.”
You tapped the Swatch on your wrist and gave an absent wave over your shoulder.
With your headphones on, you made your way down to the main sidewalk that split off in two directions, bordering either side of the swimming pool and tennis courts.  You found the bike path that wound down along the lake to the boat dock, and then up into a lush pocket of dense forest.  Two teenage girls on rollerblades almost crashed into you as they bolted around the bend, giggling.  Trying to decide if you wanted to go toward the water or into the woods, you watched a staff member veer off onto an uneven stone pathway and your curiosity was piqued.
Creeping along in their wake, you marched up a hill for what felt like forever, with Bring on the Dancing Horses by Echo and the Bunnymen playing in your ears, until you realized with a start that you’d already arrived at the main building.  It loomed up ahead like a mansion from some old gothic romance novel.
You continued to plod your way along the trunks of trees, until you spotted a group having a chat on the wide porch, and took a few steps back.
They were all leaning against the railing in a semicircle, facing each other,  so that you could see the Hawkins Landing Staff on the back of a few of their navy jackets.
One of them was Steve from earlier, next to him was a girl with a blonde ponytail, and then two others.
“I met that author guy today,” Steve took a drag and then blew the smoke up in the air, away from everyone’s face.  “The one who wrote Darkness on the Hill, that one they made into a movie.”
You realized that it was your dad he was talking about.
Not looking where you were stepping, you caught your toe on a tree root and your arms windmilled before you were able to find your balance, floundering to duck behind another tree.  Your mouth opened in a silent scream, trying not to gasp at the pain in your foot.  Grimacing, you turned the volume down on the headphones that were around your neck to better hear what they were saying.
“That actor from that one show about law and order is staying in cabin 8,” the girl with the ponytail said.  “Housekeeping says he finishes a bottle of whiskey a night.”
But then, there was another voice. “Now that sounds like a great fucking vacation to me,” followed by the heavy footfalls of boots on wood as a new person approached the group.
The sight of the new arrival made you feel like your brain was wiped clean—-the whole world came to a screeching halt.
Swallowing hard, all of your attention tunneled on him; his long dark hair with bangs that crowded his eyes, a thin but muscular build, tattoos scattered over his exposed arms, and a leather jacket hooked over his shoulder with one finger. He combed a hand through his hair as he walked, chunky metal rings catching the light, and headed over to the blonde girl.  You took note of every movement as she passed him her half-smoked cig and he gave her a quick kiss on the temple.
Was that his girlfriend?
He stepped back to introduce the younger guy he had with him.  “This Jamie, my new maintenance trainee,” he used the hand holding his smoke to point to each one on the balcony individually.  You really didn’t pay attention until he got to the blonde one.  “...that one there is the lovely Chrissy, and the moody one with the hairy chest is Steve.  They’re the other musicians I told you about.”
Jamie had short black, curly hair and a hoop piercing in one ear.  He lit his own smoke while the metalhead started in with a story about a pump exploding at the pool house, complete with wild hand gestures.
“Hey, there the fuck you are.  I’ve been looking everywhere for you losers.”
Another voice, another person making their way down the long stretch of squeaky wood planks from the front of the building.  You stepped closer, snapping a twig under your foot, eliciting a worried lip bite.
Everyone stayed right where they were, but for Eddie who moved in front of Jamie in a protective way.  The guy approaching at a stroll had very nondescript good looks with his wheat blonde hair in a tight cut that looked freshly trimmed.  While the others were dressed more casually, this one wore a white dress shirt and tie with black trousers, as if he had some fancy place to be.
“You talking to me?” The metalhead flicked his cigarette ash and stepped forward to meet the new guy before he could come any closer to the group. “Cause, if so, you might want to change your tone, precious.”
“Eddie, don’t,” Chrissy said, and then she stood up, addressing the guy in the suit.  “Jason, what the fuck do you want?”
Eddie, you moved your lips, whispering the name to yourself.  His name was Eddie.
Jason put his hands up in mock surrender.  “Why so hostile?” He turned to Eddie. “Joyce has been trying to find you for an hour.  There’s a toilet backed up in one of the cabins, and trash that needs to go to the dump. Sounds to me like you’re having a hard time doing your job, Munson.”
You scuttled like a crab, moving to a spot where you could see their faces instead of the backs of their heads.
So that you could see Eddie’s face.
Steve checked his watch and pushed off of the railing to snub his cig out on the bottom of his shoe.  “I gotta run.  See you bastards at the show tonight,” he said in passing, shoving both hands into his trouser pockets.  He walked right into Jason, shoulder checking him, before casually going on his way.  Jason shot him an evil look.
“Well,” Eddie took a deep breath. “Tell Joyce I got the message,” and then he motioned for Jamie to follow him.
“Too bad we can’t take you out with the rest of the trash, freak,” Jason mumbled, loud enough for you to hear every word, and a tension crackled in the air.
The metalhead stopped dead in his tracks and drew his shoulders back.
When he finally turned on his heel, he wore a satisfied smirk, inclining his head, as if he’d been waiting for Jason to say something all along.
Chrissy moved as if she were about to go over and break up whatever was about to happen, but one of the others put a handout and stopped her.
“Just keep sending your laundry home to mommy, baby boy, and leave the real work to me,” Eddie said, and then he flicked the butt of his cigarette at Jason’s face.
Jason moved his head just in time so that the hot cherry missed his cheek by a hair and bounced off the wall behind him, spraying sparks.  Chrissy and the others snickered at how beet red Jason’s face got, but he didn’t say another word, he just waited for Eddie and Jamie to be far enough away before he went back around to the front entrance.
When the coast was clear, you stood and made your way to the path again.  With a curse you realized you were going to be late for that dinner reservation, and picked up speed to a slow, sad jog.
You found yourself thinking that maybe being trapped at Hawkins Landing for the summer wouldn’t be so bad after all.
—----
Your aunt Kim gave you an exasperated look when you all finally sat down for dinner, being that you’d made everyone 20 minutes late for the reservation.  There didn’t appear to be a single open table when you arrived, but Joyce had made sure to keep the one by the window facing the gardens open for your party.  She came around to introduce the guy who was to be your waiter, and you sat up a little straighter in your seat when you realized it was Jason from earlier.  The way he’d been dressed out on the porch made sense now, as his uniform was the same as all of the other waitstaff.
Near the end of the meal, Joyce returned to the table in her black pencil skirt and fitted jacket, but this time, she was with a guy who you could tell wanted to look like Don Johnson in Miami Vice, but it came off more as Gary from Weird Science.
“I'd like you to meet Troy, he’s the son of Mr. Brenner, the owner of the resort,” there was a reluctance about her, as if she’d been forced at gunpoint to introduce him.
Troy stared at you with an uncomfortable intensity, making your attention fall to your plate.
“I’m in charge when my father isn’t around,” Troy said with a smug grin, putting his hands in his white trouser pockets, and you spotted some type of metal retainer on his teeth.
Joyce cleared her throat, annoyed that his statement was far from true.  But she recognized that it was part of her job to indulge the little shit.
“I just graduated with a business degree from Georgetown,” he gloated, giving you a wink.  “This place will all be mine one day.”
Your father exchanged a look with your aunt over his chocolate mousse.
“Well, it’s nice to know someone else your age here, isn’t it, Bird? Maybe you two kids should go have some fun tonight,” Kim chirped.
If your aunt wasn’t so far away, you would’ve kicked her under the table.
Troy bent at the waist so that his face wasn’t far from yours.  “I’d love to show you around after dinner, if you’re interested in a tour?”
Before you could issue a vague excuse like, “sorry I can’t, I have a headache,” Kim spoke for you again.
“I think that’s a great idea,” she even clapped her hands, applauding it.
In the end, you went with him to make Kim happy, to get her off your back, hopefully for the rest of the trip.
An hour or two with a pretentious prick wouldn’t hurt you.
—-------
Troy wasn’t bad company, but he was quite full of himself.  He had interesting stories about his extensive travels, but then he also told awkward stories that were possibly fibs about how many models he’d dated, and expanded on how he wanted to be married with two kids by the time he was 30.
You, on the other hand, couldn’t imagine thinking that far ahead, and he wouldn’t let you get a word in edgewise.
You followed close behind through the huge, busy kitchen of the restaurant you’d just dined in, and he tried to hold your hand when he introduced you to the head chef, but you were sly, and pulled it away to cross your arms over your chest.  He gave you a tour of the ballroom and took a stroll through the other restaurant on the opposite end of the building that had a much more relaxed feel, low lighting, red carpet, and a bar at the center.
You went down to the boat docks and walked along the pier. The stars were breathtaking, but Troy didn’t notice, he was too busy trying to convince you to go out on his boat with him.  You declined, taking a page from Kim’s book to mention a freshly born curse of violent seasickness.
You had your elbows on the railing at the pier, enjoying the velvet reflection of the crescent moon in the lake, and you could feel your jaw grow tense under the weight of Troy’s stare.
On the verge of telling him you were ready to head back to your cabin, the sound of music drifted down from somewhere on the property.
Yes, no mistaking, it was Take Me Home Tonight by Eddie Money, but it was being executed with someone else’s voice, and whoever that person was had some serious pipes.
And then there was the distinct sound of a feminine voice chiming in with the parts from the song Be My Baby Now by the Ronettes in the chorus.
"Is that a live band?" You turned away from him to try and find the source of the music.  It wasn’t coming from the restaurant on the water or any of the cabins to your right.
"There's a cover band every Friday out behind the main house. You want to check it out?" He held the crook of his arm out to you and hesitated before you took it.  His ego sufficiently stroked now that you wanted to spend more time with him.
Around the side of the building, overlooking the golf course, was a huge, fenced in back patio garden area with a private hot tub and pool for hotel guests.  Troy led you through a white arbor wound with ivy to find that there were plenty of people mingling, drinking, and dancing.  The area was mostly manicured lawn, with stone pathways meandering around from a concrete floor that was right in front of the small riser that was meant to be a stage. You imagined that a million weddings had taken place there.
At the door was a bar, and Troy got you a flute of champagne, which you downed with abandon and asked for another.  While he was getting your second glass, you made your way along under several boughs of white string lights to get a view of the stage and who was performing the top tier Eddie Money cover.
Just as you stepped into the crowd of people shuffling to the beat, you stopped dead in your tracks.
There he was at the mic: Eddie the metalhead.
Guitar slug low at his hips, wearing a tuxedo with light blue cummerbund and bow tie, his hair neatly combed back and fixed into a knot at the back of his head so that you could really see the curves of his face. If you didn’t know any better, you’d think he was performing the song against his will.
The rest of the band were dressed similarly, and you instantly knew the one strumming the bass guitar as Steve, and the woman on backup vocals rocking on the rhythm was Chrissy, who wore a conservative skirt and flats. There was also a keyboardist and a drummer, both of whom you did not recognize.
“What’s your major?” Troy asked, breaking your reverie to pass you the glass of champagne. “In college?”
You were confused for a second but then, “oh, I took the year off to…figure some things out.” The full truth of it was that you had dropped out completely and had no intention of going back.
“I spent a summer in Greece my freshman year,” he offered, unprovoked. “The women there are, wow, so smoking hot.”
The song finished and Eddie took his tuxedo jacket off, rolling up his shirt sleeves to his elbows, exposing the scattered tattoos you’d noticed earlier.  He leaned over to whisper something to Chrissy, motioned at the drummer, and then stepped back into place, brushing a loose wisp of hair off his cheek.
“Find someone special for this next one,” he told the crowd, and was answered with a rush of murmurs.
The first notes to In Your Eyes by Peter Gabriel, a slow song, lit up the space, and your stomach tightened, fearing that Troy would ask you to dance. As he escorted you to the floor, you tried to keep your head down and stay to the back of the crowd, but Troy kept maneuvering you closer to the stage.
I get so lost, sometimes
Days pass and this emptiness fills my heart
When I want to run away
I drive off in my car
But whichever way I go
I come back to the place you are
You watched the performance from over Troy’s shoulder and followed his lead, shifting from foot to foot.  You were mesmerized by the muscles in Eddie’s hands as he played each note, and the way Chrissy came in like an angel on the chorus.
He’d captured the attention of everyone in the garden at that moment, and there was a group of women watching him from the sidelines, whispering to each other, possibly about how they wanted to eat him alive.
They were all thinking the same thing you were: Eddie was magic.
He liked to close his eyes when he sang, so you weren’t expecting him to be staring right at you when he opened them again.
All my instincts, they return
And the grand facade, so soon will burn
Without a noise, without my pride
I reach out from the inside
He wouldn’t break eye contact, so you eventually had to; the intensity of it was giving you butterflies.
Troy stepped back and tried to get your attention.  “Did you hear anything I just said?”
You nodded, but your gaze only drifted back to Eddie.  Troy followed your line of sight and then dropped both of his hands with a frustrated cluck of his tongue.
"What the hell is he doing up there?" He hissed to himself when it dawned on him that Eddie had been behind the mic that whole time. "That's our goddamn maintenance guy. He shouldn't be up there."
In a huff, Troy pushed through the crowd and headed over to one of the other staff members against the fence. Bird could see him shouting and pointing over at the stage. Whatever the staff guy said did not seem to cheer him up a bit, and he came back to your side, shrugging his shoulders.
"I guess our normal front man Drew has the flu," he reported back. "It's just so hard to find reliable help these days."
Eddie was making the song his own, and that was what you liked about it.
“Let’s get out of here,” Troy put his hand on your lower back to escort you out. “The music sucks.”
—--
It was 9:30 when you made it back to the main foyer, standing in the middle of the lobby next to an obnoxious floral arrangement, when Troy tried to get you to go back to his cabin and watch a movie, only to get respectfully declined.
“Don’t worry about your parents,” Troy said, brushing his finger over your chin. “They know you’re with me, so they’re probably the happiest parents at Hawkins Landing.”
The guy had quite an ego on him, you had to give him that. It was unsurpassed by most.
In the end, you got away, and as soon as your Mary Jane’s hit the cobblestones outside the front door, you could feel yourself trotting at a quicker pace, eager to put some distance between you and Troy and everyone else, for that matter.  You didn’t stop until you were far enough away from the main hotel to be able to check over your shoulder and not see it through the trees.
It was then that you realized that you had a free chunk of time, and you could do with it whatever you wished.  Your dad would think you were still with Troy, and as long as you made it back to the cabin before midnight, they wouldn’t worry.
As much as it was the dead of summer, Indiana by the water had very cool nights, and you buttoned up the jean jacket you were wearing just as you noticed a yellow sign on a lamppost to the right that said: Staff Quarters, No Guests Allowed Beyond This Point
And that made you want to venture in even more.
You checked around to make sure there was no one there to notice that you blatantly ignored the sign, and just kept going.  The path at your feet changed from stone to a well-worn dirt path through the grass, and it wasn’t long before you could hear the sound of music erupting in the distance.
You passed by staff quarters, a few weathered red cabins with white trim, lined close together, and there were some people hanging out on their porches who gave you curious looks, but didn’t seem too concerned with your presence.
Following the source of the music, you descended down into unknown, poorly lit territory that no longer looked like it was part of the Hawkins Landing property.
(song playing in the distance is Dangerous Meeting by Mercyful Fate)
It was then that you noticed a pale yellow light coming from the windows of a building up ahead.  Just as the dirt path turned to gravel, you identified the music you were hearing as heavy metal, and it was bolstered by distinct shouts and cheers, even a high-pitched scream or two.
“Hey,” a voice startled you from out of the dark and you jumped. “What are you going out here?”
Heart racing, you spun around to find out it was Robin.
She was struggling to carry several things in her arms as she walked and you rushed over to her.
“Where did you come from?” You asked, grinning ear to ear at how glad you were to see someone familiar.
“My cabin is right over there,” she bucked her chin in a direction behind you.
She had a crossbody bag over her shoulder, an amp in one hand, and she was juggling two guitar cases, one of which she fumbled, and you managed to catch it before it hit the ground.  You wrapped your arms around the hard case with the Scorpions sticker on it, silently offering to carry it the rest of the way.
“You don’t have to—” Robin started, adjusting the bag over her shoulder.
“I want to,” you looked back up at the house where the music was coming from, assuming that was where she was headed.  “I carry that big cello around all the time, remember? I’m used to it.”
Robin moved her jaw from side to side and she looked conflicted.  “You’re not supposed to be here.”
Your eyes were still locked on the house hidden in the trees.  “What is that place?”
“Listen,” she gave you an imploring look. “I will get in so much trouble if they find out you came out here. Your dad won’t want you here, trust me.”
Her warning did nothing to squelch your curiosity. “I’m a big girl, I go wherever I want. Plus, I won’t tell anyone.”
“Besides,” she gave you a knowing look, raising her eyebrow. “If your boyfriend Troy finds out you were here, Brenner will fire all of us.”
“He’s not my boyfriend,” you snapped.  But then, softer, you added, “I barely just met him tonight.”
Robin wasn’t in the mood to try and rip the guitar out of your hands, and so, with a heavy sigh, she caved.
“Fine,” she sighed. “But stay close to me, okay? You’re not at the resort anymore, sweetheart.”
You nodded, waiting for her to lead the way.
She took a step forward and then stopped and turned on her heel to point at the instrument in your arms.
“Be extra careful with that, it’s Eddie’s baby. He’ll grow horns if anything happens to it.”

Hi! If you are familiar with the movie Dirty Dancing, you have an idea about what scene is coming up next. I've really enjoyed lining up certain events with the movie, but things will obviously be different in this because I want it to have some surprises in store for you.
Every chapter from here on out will start with a list of the songs, ones that will give hints for what to expect. I wanted to make music a big part of this fic, because it was a huge deal in the movie, and the original soundtrack is still dear to me.
as always, thank you so much for reading and interacting with this story! Comments and reblogs are deeply appreciated. or send me an ask and let me know what you think ❤️

Never Letting You Go

“Fuck baby,” he said, grinding against your ass with a little bit more force. “Do you feel that?  See, that’s what you fucking do to me woman.” Javi was now rocking harder into you, giving you slow deep thrusts. You could feel his hard outline in his pants as he was seated firmly against you. “This is what you’ve always done to me. I don’t hate you, fuck baby, I like you. I want you. So if you’ll shut up long enough, then maybe you’ll hear me say it.”
Tumblr media
Today was Valentine's Day, and usually this was something that didn’t concern Javier Peña. He was a DEA agent that was in the middle of trying to bring down drug dealers and drug lords, he didn’t have time to be concerned about feelings or emotions on a specific day on the calendar.  But yet here he was, in the files room pacing back and forth, trying to calm his nerves.  Javier was never nervous when it came to the opposite sex. He usually was always so calm, cool, and collected when handling them.  Well, except for today that is, and especially when dealing with you. Somehow you had gotten under his skin just enough that now he was pacing back and forth, mind racing of what to do if you didn't like the gift that he just left you on your desk. He was so lost in his own head that he didn’t hear the door open and Steve Murphy step in.
“Javi, what the hell are you-” Steve said, stopping dead in his tracks when he saw Javi pacing back and forth, running his hand down his face.
“She ain’t gonna like the gift. Why did you say it was from you and not a secret admirer? Jesus. Soy un idiota (I’m such an idiot).” Javi mumbled to himself.
“You got a lady a Valentine’s gift there Peña?” Murphy said, slamming the files on the desk and causing Javi to jump.  Javi just stood there, not answering his friend and fellow DEA agent’s question.  Steve, seeing how nervous Javi was, continued to tease him slightly. “Who’s the lucky girl, Peña?”
Before he could answer, they both heard you marching down the hall, yelling, “Peña, I’m gonna fuckin’ kill you, you arrogant bastard.”
Tumblr media
About a year ago you were transferred to Columbia in an attempt to assist in the capture of Pablo Escobar. At first, you were excited about serving your country and bringing the bad guys to justice. That was before meeting your two male DEA partner’s, however.  The first time you met Steve Murphy and Javier Peña it was love at first insult. You were the head female DEA agent hired to work alongside them in helping bring down the Medellín Cartel, and subsequently Pablo Escobar.  However, your transfer to Columbia somehow pissed both of them off.
Since you had arrived, all those two idiots did was piss you off one way or another.  They were the biggest source of your headaches and irritations to date, and one of the biggest reasons why you hated your current job. They wouldn’t listen to you, and they continuously left you out of the loop on information. To make matters worse, when they got bored you were the target of their practical jokes, like today.
Today was Valentine’s Day, and one day on the calendar that you wished you could just completely remove. You hated Valentine’s Day with a passion, ever since you found your ex-fiance balls deep in your sister on Valentine’s Day one year ago.  It was after that you found out that the man who you thought loved you had always cheated on you with your sister, from Moment. Fucking. One.  You were together five years with him, and apparently all those five years he was also fucking your sister every chance he got. You were happy to hear that her husband caught them in bed and had filed for a divorce.  You thought it was poetic how she lost a man who made a shit ton of money for an asshole who could hardly pay rent for his shitty apartment.  So when you took the job transfer to Columbia you felt okay with the situation that had happened, as shitty as it sounded.
But then last night your sister called you and informed you that she was getting married, and that she was pregnant too. She advised you that it would be best if you didn’t attend the wedding because of hard feelings the two of you had. When you asked who the soon-to-be husband and dad was, she had informed you that it was your ex-fiance and that they both were happy they found someone that loved them deeply. As soon as you heard that, you told her to ‘go to fucking hell,’ and then slammed the phone down. Out of anger and rage you grabbed the bottle of alcohol that was on the counter, and downed most of it in one go. Yeah, you weren’t going to that fucking wedding.
When you woke up and realized it was Valentine’s Day, you seriously contemplated calling in work sick.  But you remembered that you had a morning meeting with your bosses and you knew that Javi and Steve wouldn’t show up.  So you begrudgingly got up and showered, swearing underneath your breath of how life wasn’t fair.  You hated today, Valentine’s Day, with a passion.  Six years ago you met your ex on Valentine’s Day because he was stood up on a date, a date with your sister you found out much later.  Then last year, on Valentine’s Day, you caught him cheating with your sister.  How did life get so fucked up?
To add to your already sour mood, when you got into work early you noticed that all the rest of the females in the office had big bouquet of flowers on their desks from Javi and Steve. Each of them had a note saying that they really appreciated all the hard work that they have done, and that they were special angels for helping them out.  When you got to your desk you didn’t see any flowers or note telling you that you were special.  The only note that you saw was from Steve saying “don’t fuck up this meeting” and asked if you took your “anti-bitch pill today yet.” Yeah you hated this fucking day.
The meeting that was only supposed to be an hour went on for three long hours, and you were berated for two out of the three hours in the meeting. You had to once again mop up the mess that both Steve and Javi had created, promising to get results instead of excuses. Recently, all the leads that your department was getting in capturing Escobar were cold, no one had seen him or heard of him in almost a month.  Even when you went in and shook the crime tree, nothing fell out of place which made everyone uneasy, especially your superiors.
Finally when the meeting was over with you were able to return to your desk to try to let your heart and blood pressure return to normal.  When you approached your desk, you saw a little basket there with a pretty red ribbon with sparkles in it.  You looked around quickly to see if anyone noticed or was standing there, you also glanced quickly under your desk to make sure Steve or Javi wasn’t sitting there waiting for you to relax so they could scare you.  When you noticed nothing was out of the ordinary you felt your heart flutter in your chest, especially when the tag read “to the most special DEA female agent” in Javier’s handwriting.
At first your heart fluttered, thinking that finally someone, Javi, took the time to give a shit.  If you were being honest with yourself, you did like Javier Peña.  He was very sexy and attractive. When he wasn’t being an asshole, he was truly sensitive and understood the female sex with their emotions. You thought that he didn’t care anymore about you, but the longer you looked at the name tag on your gift, the more you thought that maybe you were wrong at your assessment. Your heart raced and you felt the heat creep up your neck at the thought that maybe Javi did see you as something more than just an individual who worked with him each day. But when you opened the basket and saw the gift that was laying there for you, your wonder turned into embarrassment as your face fell. Then when you read the note inside you saw red with anger. That bastard took it one step too far this time.
Tumblr media
Once Javi heard your voice he suddenly froze, slowly listening to where you were coming from.  When he realized that you were getting closer, he glanced over at Murphy with wide, scared eyes. He mouthed “shh, shut the fuck up,” when Steve went to open his mouth to ask Javi something.
As Steve stood there he was trying to understand what the hell his partner had done to anger you so much. He mouthed to Javi ‘what the fuck did you do man?’  Javi just shook his head and placed his finger to his lips to silence Steve’s further questioning.  He wasn’t trying to be a coward, but with how angry you were right now, he didn’t want to come face to face with you.  Yes, Javi had a knack for pissing you off so much that you’d threaten to kill him. But from how angry you sounded, he figured that if he was standing in front of you right now, that you would in fact shoot him dead.
Javi and Steve continued to stand in silence together for a few minutes. Javi was hoping that you would just continue down the hallway and not stop outside of this door.  For a moment it sounded like you had moved on, so much so that Javi felt himself visibly relax and let out a sigh.  But that moment was short lived.  When Javi heard the door knob turn he quickly said, “shit Murph, lie,” and then he ducked behind one of the filing cabinets against the wall.
“What the-” Steve said, looking confused, but for only a minute as you quickly came bursting through the door seething with anger.
“Murphy, where is he?” you said, steam practically coming out of your ears at how mad and pissed off you were at Javier Peña.
“I don’t-”
“Don’t give me that I don’t know shit. You two are practically glued together at the hip, so where the hell is he?” You bit back, standing right in front of Steve’s face.
“Woah, now wait just a second there princess, don’t be biting my head off. I don’t know where he is, or what he’s done, but you can just curb that attitude of yours and-”
“Don’t act like you don’t know what he’s done. This smells like both Peña and Murphy antics to me,” you said, crossing your arms over your chest.
“Well sorry cariño, I don’t know where he is or what he’s done.”
Huffing, you let out another long sigh, balling your fists up and slamming them tight against your side.  “This is what he’s done,” you said, shoving the box you were holding with the card in his face.  “And if you happen to see him, you can tell him that I’m looking for him.”
You went to leave, but Murphy blocked your exit saying, “wait a second here princess, don’t go and give me something like this and then take off. Let’s see what’s gotten your panties in a twist.”
“I knew it, it was your idea. I don’t get why you both have to always be so-”  But before you could finish Steve had opened the box and saw what was inside it.  Steve pulled out a pair of black lace panties that had a vibrator attached to them, and as he did he noticed the note at the bottom of the box.  The note was written in Javi’s handwriting and said, “for all those lonely nights baby, when you’re so wound up and don’t have a man that can be inside you. Enjoy.” Signed, Javier Peña.
Murphy was shocked at what he saw and couldn’t help but laugh out loud.  He knew Javi loved to rile you up, and he had to hand it to his partner, he definitely got you going. It was the perfect gift to get even for all those irritating moments the three of you had. But when he looked up at you he immediately froze, his laugh dying out in his throat. Your eyes were red and puffy now as frustrated tears streamed down your face. Steve could tell that the jokes maybe went a little too far this time.
“Sweetheart, we’re-”
“Don’t, just don’t Steve,” you said, grabbing the box and throwing everything back inside, not wanting to look up at him.  “I get it, it’s a joke. A really fucking mean joke, ya know. You all can have any woman that you want. And here I am, in Columbia, and I can’t even get sleazy drug lords to choose me when I’m undercover. Shit, I couldn’t even keep my ex-fiance faithful on this day. You guys will find this hilarious, last year I found my ex fucking my sister. Apparently he never wanted me, wanted her cause now they’re getting married and having a baby and I’m not welcome around my family any more, cause I guess I can’t keep anyone happy.  So nice of you to give the other girls flowers, and tell them how great they are when they don’t even fucking do anything for you.  Meanwhile I have five bullet wounds and several cracked ribs for covering your asses.  By the way, you guys are getting a raise in pay and I’m getting a 5 dollar reduction in pay.  Apparently the superiors feel that it’ll give you guys motivation or something. So yeah, you’re right, perfect joke.  Happy fucking Valentine’s Day to me.” And with that you left, slamming the door.
This was a joke that Peña and Murphy started with you about six months ago when you were placed undercover to go and try to extract information of the whereabouts of Pablo Escobar.  They placed you at a brothel, knowing that some of Pablo’s higher up men were going to come to choose women to give them sexual favors for the night.  With the help of a few informants, they had dressed you up and gave you pointers on how women acted in these places in Colombia.  Javi had made a joke at you that you were the highest paid prostitute on the street, but when it came time for Pablo’s men to take you, you were the only one left behind.  You weren’t ugly, you actually were quite beautiful, but that night Javi and Murphy had a hay day with you, as you were the only one that was not chosen.  To make matters worse, you had gone out with them that night and couldn’t even get a guy to buy you a drink at the bar, let alone talk with you.  And now the joke, you thought, had gone too far.  Humiliated and embarrassed, you went and gathered your things and left to go home for the day, not wanting to see anyone again.
After you stormed out, and Murphy knew you were gone, he walked over to where Javi was, facing the back wall. “You got her vibrating panties?” Steve said, shaking his head and laughing.
“At the time, I thought it was a good idea. But something got lost in translation I suppose,” he said, still not wanting to leave his hiding spot.
“Peña, let me give you some advice.  If you like a girl, don’t get her vibrating panties and then give her a card that says ‘for all those lonely nights when you don’t have a man.’  It just makes you look like an even bigger dick than what you already are.”
“Yeah, I realize that now,” he said, still not coming out of his hiding spot.
“Did ya know any of that other shit she was talking about?” Steve said, pulling a cigarette out and lighting it. Javi shook his head no as he came out of where he was hiding.
“Kinda fucked up if you ask me. Fucking her own sister and then marrying her.  Talk about a cold hearted son of a bitch.”
“Yeah, I never knew. Fuck Murph, what do I do?”
“You already know what you gotta do man. Or do I need to call her back in here so she can spell it out for you?”
“Fuck you,” Javi said, walking out the door to go find you.  He felt like the biggest dick right now.  The gift and note wasn’t a joke from him, and he hated to think that you felt like it was.
Tumblr media
Javi eventually learned that you had decided to go home for the day, leaving your work here. “She’s taking a sick day,” is what Maria, the secretary in the front office, had told him.  Javi had attempted to get some paperwork done, but he kept thinking about you and how hurt you sounded when talking with Murphy.  He didn’t mean for it to come off as a joke, in fact Javi wanted you to have the panties for a good reason, he wanted you to wear them for him.
Javi had been the biggest pain in your ass from the start.  He was always coming over to your desk, forcing you to work through his work, making you work in the field with him, etc.  To you it felt like he was punishing you for being good at your job. But in reality, he secretly liked you and wanted to be with you.  Javi didn’t know why he couldn’t communicate his feelings to you, why he always had to make fun of you or rile you up.  “I’m taking a sick day,” Javi told Murphy as he walked towards the door.
Murphy, who was still at his desk, said “Connie said she’s at home now.”  Connie was one of your best friends here in Colombia.  Being in a foreign country was hard, and making friends was even harder, especially what you did for a job. Your friends back at home disagreed with your career choice of being sent to Colombia, so your entire support structure was no longer there.  Connie was one of the nicest women you had met or seen in the longest time.  She understood your career choice, and didn’t hold it against you when your plans would change.
Javi had stopped and bought a dozen flowers from a street vendor before he got to your house.  When he knocked on the door he softly said, “querida, I’m so sorry. Please open up, I didn’t mean to make you cry, I-”
“Who the fuck said you made me cry Peña?” you said, opening up the door suddenly, looking up at him with bloodshot eyes, tears at your lash line.
“No one I, Jesus woman, c’mere,” he said, stepping inside and placing the flowers on the end table by the door when he saw your face.  He then reached for you, pulled you tight into his chest, holding you as the dam opened up again and the tears fell. “I’m so sorry baby, so sorry. I didn’t mean how it came out, fuck-”
“What did I do for you to hate me?” you said, voice muffled in his chest.
“Nothin’ baby, I don’t hate you, I-” he said, rubbing his hand up and down your back, trying to soothe you.  This was not going the way that he had hoped.
“I mean, I pull extra duty, and am one of the strongest hitters on the team.  Fuck Javi, I even have brought in more leads than Murphy and yet you publicly humiliate me.”  You said, as a sob broke free from your mouth.  You didn’t know why you were opening up, allowing Javi to attempt to soothe you.  You just didn’t have it in you to fight right now, too emotionally worked up to even care.
“No, no, baby. It ain’t like that, look at me,” Javi said, pulling you away from his chest and gently cupping your face with his hands.  “Querida, I got them for you and for me, for you to think about me.”
Shaking your head you stepped back and said, “what? Peña, what the fuck are you talking about for you and me? I’m not-”
“Shit, this ain’t coming out the way I wanted it to,” Javi said, pacing back and forth in your living room.  Javi was mumbling to himself, unsure of how to deal with the situation and correct it.  Not knowing how to place it into words, his feelings, he thought that he could show you. He immediately reached for you and kissed you hard on the lips.  Javi, once again, was hoping the kiss would show you that he cared, but all you read was he was being condescending once again. You immediately pulled back and found your strength and slapped Javi hard across his face.
“Javi, what the fuck do you think you’re doing?  Just because I’m crying, trying to understand why the guy I have a crush on hates me, doesn’t give you the right to-”
“I like you,” he said, rubbing the sting site he felt across his cheek.  Damn that woman could hit hard, he thought to himself.  You continued to talk overtop of him, not realizing what he just said. You kept saying how much of an asshole he’s been to you and how much you hate men as you’ve always been taken advantage of.  Javi shook his head at you, hearing words such as dickhead, asshole along with other words such as, pendejo and cabrón. You kept telling him off, not listening to anything that he had just told you.
With a sarcastic laugh, he said, “I can’t fucking believe you, you don’t listen baby.” He was now getting just as frustrated at you for not listening to him. She says I don’t listen, hell, she doesn’t listen.
All you heard was ‘I can’t fucking believe you’ and nothing else. Once again, you marched over to smack Javi hard across the face. But this time, he caught your hand mid-air saying, “I don’t think so cariño. You only get one free hit, and you already used it up for today.”
The sadness that you felt earlier had now turned into blinding anger and rage. You started fighting back.  You were done with men treating you like assholes, for cheating on you with your sister, for not listening to you or even attempt at paying attention.  You started hitting Javi’s chest, yelling at him and saying, “you’re an asshole,” over and over again.  You were throwing a temper tantrum, frustrated about the last few days, and Javi was your outlet.  However, Javi didn’t see your attitude nor behavior as enduring or even cute.  Him, having about enough of you using him as a physical punching bag, decided to take matters into his own hands to calm you down.  He grabbed your hand and threw it behind your back, slamming you to the ground while yelling, “Enough.”
You kept trying to kick him, to hurt him more.  You weren’t part of this planet anymore, you just saw red at reliving every shitty moment for the last six years.  Of taking the smacks to the face your boyfriend gave you when he was drunk and you questioned why he had red lipstick stains on his shirt and around his cock as you undressed him from a night out with his friends. What you didn’t know is that it was your sister’s lips that were around him, and not some other woman.  It didn’t make those moments easier, but you always thought that maybe it was just a one night stand, not a five year long relationship behind your back.
You kept kicking Javi, yelling that you were done with people hurting you, clearly not seeing him anymore. To help calm you down, Javi maneuvered his body so he was sitting on your ass, with your arm behind your back.  Your chest was laying flat on the floor, his chest then tight on your back as he snarled in your ear, “you’re gonna stop this shit, right now, stop trying to hit me.”
“Fuck you David-” you said, not realizing that you called him your ex.
“I’m not him baby. I never was, nor will I ever be him. So stop calling me David, my name isn’t fucking David.” Javi growled in your ear, leaning harder into you to get you to calm down.
You finally relaxed at hearing Javi speak to you, reminding yourself that he wasn’t your ex. As soon as you relaxed Javi released your arm, but stayed firm against you, hands on both sides of your head as he breathed hard and fast at the fight that you gave him.  It was then that you remembered everything that Javi and you were, everything that you were alone.
Sometimes at night when you couldn’t sleep you’d go back into work and find Javi working alone at his desk.  He’d always come over and ask you why you were showing up at work around midnight on a day where you just placed in 12 hours. Alone the two of you would always find moments where you could be soft with each other.  He’d order you both greasy pizza to eat at night and he’d tease you of picking off all the pepperoni. Nights where you were scared to be home alone, he’d take you back to his house and you’d sleep in his bed when he slept on the couch.  When you got shot several times, after you were discharged home, he’d stay with you in your apartment. He even slept next to you on your bed a few times.
He also bathed you when you got sick with a fever from the infection of the bullet wounds, and nursed you back to health for several weeks.  If you were being honest, Javi was your best friend when the two of you were alone.  But at work, he was the biggest dickhead.  You were jealous when he started flirting with the new secretary that came in, Phillis, and hated when you saw him at the brothel down the street.  Javi never attempted sex with you, and honestly, it upset you. You wanted him, but apparently he never wanted you.  So at work you took out your frustration the only way you knew how, you became a pain in his ass like he was a pain in yours.
But when Javi didn’t move, continuing to breathe hard in and out, you knew that something had changed.  You went to move your ass and immediately he hissed “don’t” as his hips stayed tight against yours, not moving nor letting you up.  After a moment of submitting to him you heard him ask in a strained voice “are you calm enough for me to move or do we have to keep you like this for a little longer?”
You didn’t know why you felt like saying it out loud, but you didn’t want to play this game of not being honest with him anymore. “I’ve calmed down, but Javi, I’d like it if you stay like this for a little while, hell you can even push deeper into me if you want.” You gave Javi a little wiggle of your ass at his statement.
The air around the two of you changed, thickening with sexual tension. “Shit baby, ya can’t say that to me,'' he said, slightly leaning forward and pushing his crotch tighter to your ass.  You felt him slightly rock back and forth, groaning at the feel of you beneath him.
You slightly arched your back, pushing up so he could kiss your neck.  When you changed the position both of you moaned loud in unison, feeling his hips slowly grind harder into you. You never remembered feeling this good by just letting a man grind into you, but fuck, Javi was slowly making you feel feral.
“Javi, I don’t-” you said slowly.
“No,” He growled, not wanting you to tell him to stop.  He couldn’t take it anymore, couldn’t hold back. He wanted so desperately to be deep inside of your warm cunt that he was struggling right now to keep his composure. “Fuck hermosa, feel what you do to me.”
But you were, you felt how much Javi wanted you and you knew how much you wanted him.  You laid there and let him slowly grind his hips into you again until something snapped inside.
“Javi, fuck me,” you said, pushing your ass harded back into him.
Javi immediately stilled his hips at your statement, looking down at you, trying to determine if what you were asking was what he thought.  When he didn’t respond again, you said with a little more bite, “Javi, you gave me a vibrator for all those lonely nights when I don’t have a man’s dick inside of me.  Please, I don’t want to use the vibrator tonight. For once on Valentine’s Day I want a man inside me that fucking cares. If you really care, please give me that.”
You felt Javi get off from you and walk away, towards the door, rustling around with something.  You laid face down in the middle of your living room, tears welling up in your eyes at being rejected once again.  You hated this fucking holiday, but when you let out a little sniffle you felt his hand cup your chin, turning you to the side. With the softest eyes possible he said, “come on now, no more crying. Now up you go,” as he helped you stand.  Once you were standing he smiled down at you and then gave you a slow tender kiss on the lips.  When he pulled back he held out the black lace panties in front of your face.
“Here, I bought these for you. Now, go and put them on, and let me see them on you.  Then I’m gonna fuck you like you deserve, like a man that’s wanted to be with you from the moment he laid eyes on you. Fuck what you stupid ex did to you last year-”
“And every year before,” you said softly.
Javi’s eyes got impossibly dark, anger and lust mixing with them.  He hated your ex, the man that broke you.  If Javi had to spend the rest of his life showing you that you deserved more, then he would do it.  Fuck his superiors, or anyone else that thought he and you shouldn’t be together.
“The fact that you say that makes me angry that any man would ever-”
“Forget it Javi, it’s-”
“No. Now pay attention sweetheart, cause I’m only gonna say it once. No man should ever make you feel like this, ever, you hear me? Now, go put them on baby, and let me see you in them. Then, I’m gonna take you to bed and show you how a man is supposed to treat the woman he cares about.”
“Oh, and how’s that Peña, what are you gonna do that makes me forget all the stupid shit other men have done?” You said, playfully nudging Javi and his cockiness that you have found you love.
Javi grabbed you by the hair and tilted your head back while whispering above you, “I’m gonna fuck you so good that you’re gonna forget every man before me, baby.  Then I’m gonna show you how a real man treats the woman he’s crazy over. It’s just you and me, and I’ll remind you of that every night before we go to sleep. There’s no one’s pussy I’d rather be buried in than yours. I only want to be balls deep in you, and not anyone else.”  Javi then slammed his lips onto yours and gave you a kiss like you deserved.
Maybe you had to have David be in your life and screw you over, because without him, you’d never have met Javier Peña. Javi was a real man that made good on his promises, of being the man that you needed.  Before the night was over, and after you came down from your intense rough sex with him, you found yourself looking into his eyes and seeing the potential for a future once again.  As Javi slowly rocked into you, making slow love at the end, he whispered, “you’re mine cariño, and I’m never letting you go.”  And that was the thing that tipped you both over the edge, moaning each other’s names and kissing each other like you both had just found your future soulmate.
Javi did make good on his promises, he never let you go.

and for dessert?
Tumblr media
pairing: javi x reader
cw's/tags: smut, oral sex, spanish? (i don't speak spanish), unrealistic scenarios, steve voiceover dialogue at the beginning to explain the strange plot
summary: reader is a shy hotel housekeeper of sorts (probably a CIA spy), and brings javi his room service with a special treat
a/n: 'there's a reason magical fake-ism was born in liz's mind..."
this is for @undercoverpena's birthday bash! my color for the color palette was ganache brown, and somehow, ganache is what got us here.
wc: 2k
Tumblr media
[Steve Voiceover]: And if I told you that the CIA gave us an all expenses paid vacation at a 5 star hotel with women dressed like French maids providing around the clock service, including "special favors", would you believe me? No? Good. Because that didn't happen. Even if it did, they'd be expecting something in return -- to talk about one thing or to shut up about another. Peña and I aren't liars, but if we were on trial, and the CIA had any stake, this is how they could've won us over. At least, this is Javi's version of the story.
Sitting in a California king size bed, wearing nothing but a robe embroidered with hotel's logo, Javi sifts through his own guilt to find some self-pity that'll allow him to enjoy this period of respite amidst the general chaos that comes with his career. He and Murphy are given separate rooms -- must be a real special case, considering how much the DEA does to cut corners, thereby cutting costs, and god only knows how much this room would cost him for a week. Escobar levels of cash.
He gets room service, fresh towels, and a cute girl who delivers them daily. When the CIA wants to influence your testimony, they've got to butter you up first. Actually, they don't. They could torture Javi, threaten his family, even disappear him. Maybe there's poison in his breakfast -- which he eats in bed while watching pay-per-view movies.
The steak you bring him for dinner is good, but the uniform you wear is great. He knows he's being sedated, and he takes it willingly. His dick takes it eagerly -- that specific part of him is the opposite of sedated.
For the first time in his life, Javi gets tired of jerking off.
"Goddamnit. Really?"
He must be going stir-crazy, talking to his dick like that.
It'd be more convenient for him to stay naked, but he keeps his himself covered out of respect for you. He figures you probably don't get paid enough to wait on nude men, though he doubts it'd be the first time you'd walked into a hotel room to find a man in his birthday suit. Men are gross. Javi can be nasty, but he understands that timing is key. Keep it classy until she asks for it not to be.
Javi's not stupid enough to think the CIA can't hear his phone calls. He doesn't know why they even leave the phone in the room. Maybe for the typical American illusion of freedom or maybe they're just too lazy to come and unplug it.
He could call the concierge, he might even be able to call you. But for some fucking reason, he's on the phone with Steve, who's right down the hall.
Just to fuck with him, Javi asks, "What are you wearing right now?"
"Uh, A T-shirt and boxers… why?"
"I was joking. Never had phone sex?" He figures the CIA doesn't pay whoever's listening to these calls enough, so he'll give them a little tease as a treat.
"'Course I have." Steve's not the stud that Javi is but his wife's on a different continent, so he'd believe it. "Are you trying to have phone sex with me?"
"I'm not that desperate yet."
"Haven't gone through all the porn on TV yet?"
"Not yet. Still making my way through the stepmom shit. Not really my thing."
There's a lull before Steve suggests something so out of character that Javi would think he was joking in any other circumstance.
"Is your, uh, housekeeper… nice?"
"By nice you mean hot?"
"Yeah."
"Very."
"Wonder if we have the same one."
Javi describes your appearance in detail to Steve - he'd do great as an eye witness if he only had to remember gorgeous women. Steve's description of his housekeeper is more brief but enough to confirm that they are attended to by separate women.
"Guess attractiveness is part of the qualifications," Steve remarks.
"Well, better hope you still have a job after all this 'cause you're sure not getting one here."
"Fuck off. Just 'cause you fuck around doesn't mean you're the hot one in this partnership. In case you've forgotten, I'm the one with the beautiful wife."
"Yeah, and she's way outta your league. Still don't know how you pulled her."
Steve ignores Javi's comment, and continues to brag, "plus, Little Miss Housekeeper said I'm very attractive."
"Oh yeah? How much did you pay her?"
"Nada. Did yours call you 'hermoso'? Did she offer you any extra favors?"
"Extra favors?"
Javi can hear Steve's smug grin on the other end. "She told me 'we do anything to ensure our guests have a pleasurable experience'."
"You think that's real or she was just coming onto you?"
"Dunno. You should try asking your girl- speak of the motherfuckin' devil." And Steve hangs up the phone.
In less than a minute, there's a knock on Javi's door.
"Agent Peña?" He hears your sweet voice say from outside the door, and while the fantasies fly through his head, he forgets a crucial mistake he's made which is not bothering to put on clothes after he'd taken a shower, leaving him in only in a towel when you open the door.
And he's rock-fucking-hard.
You walk in with room service. Fuck. He forgot he'd ordered dessert. Typical display, silver platter atop white tablecloth plus utensils and other expected accoutrements. You're focused on pushing the cart so at first you don't notice but when you do, you apologize profusely.
"Oh my god, Agent Peña. I am so sorry, sir." You turn away from him, fidgeting awkwardly as you stand facing the wall.
"No, it's my fault. I'm sorry. I forgot that I ordered dessert. I'll get my pants on so you don't have to see anything."
"Oh. I don't mind--I mean, that's not my concern. I just want to respect your privacy."
"My privacy? If I could walk around naked all the time I would."
"You would?" You take a glance over your shoulder and he's managed to put on his boxers, and is now reaching for a pair of jeans. "You don't mind people seeing you?"
"No," he says, stopping with one leg halfway in his pants, unsure of what you want.
"Well, you are an attractive man, so--I hope you don't mind me saying that."
"I don't. I just hope they pay you well to dish out compliments."
"The compliments are not required by my contract. I was just thinking out loud…" You trail off, shyly looking to the side.
"In that case, I hope you don't mind me saying that you're a very attractive woman."
"Thank you, sir."
God, it goes straight to his dick. There's not much he can do to hide it since he's given up on the jeans idea. (And, let's face it, those jeans leave nothing to the imagination).
"So, I brought dessert," you transition.
Usually, you're incredibly professional and prepared, like you've practiced every word in the mirror, but now, you look flustered. It's adorable when you struggle to find the words to describe the dessert. It's almost like you've forgotten what it is until you pull the lid off the tray to reveal it.
"Wow," he says, genuinely in awe of the decadence presented before him.
"It's a chocolate cake with chocolate ganache and strawberries on top… as you can see."
"It's probably poisoned, but I'll risk it anyway. This looks really fuckin' good."
You smile hesitantly and nod, periodically glancing towards the door like you're trying to figure out how to exit the conversation.
"Well, I'll leave you to it," you say, turning to leave the room.
But before your hand reaches the doorknob, Javi says, "Stay."
"Huh?"
"If you can -- If you want to."
"I can, yeah." You walk back towards him, slowly, stopping at the edge of the bed like you're unsure where to go from here.
"Need help getting up here?" he teases.
"No, I can do it," you say, though it does look taxing to climb up onto the tall mattress in those heels.
You sit so prim and proper like a little doll, perfectly posed, which makes Javi feel particularly ill-mannered as he's already devoured almost an entire slice of cake.
"Want some?" he asks, sucking icing off his finger just to see your reaction. And it's even more delicious than the cake itself.
"O-okay." You nod.
He grabs a bite of cake on his fork and brings it towards your mouth like you're newlyweds at your reception. You let him feed you, maintaining eye contact while eat and lick your lips clean. You're playing his game. You must be.
"So, your job here- is it mostly delivering food and towels or is there other stuff you do?"
"We do whatever the guests want… within reason."
"Give me an example."
You not-so-subtly glance at his boxer-clad cock, and then back at his face. "As long as it's legal, we can do whatever we want for the most part."
"And what do you want?"
When you look down, away from his eyes, getting all nervous again, he lifts your chin. "Dime lo que quieres," he says, much softer.
"I want you. I want to make you feel good."
You get closer to him, he thinks you're going for his lips but you're not, your hand brushes his bare stomach and slides down, but you stop at his waistband.
"May I?"
"Fuck yes."
For a shy girl, you sure know what you're doing. You get him riled up with playful licks around the tip, a flick of the tongue up the slit that makes him gasp, and you press sloppy kisses down his length, leaving lipstick marks all along his shaft.
It's not long before he feels his orgasm start to build, so he swiftly pulls you up, so that you're on your knees. You look almost dazed, especially so with your makeup all messy. He coaxes your hips up further until your core hovers over his face.
Javi has a one track mind when it comes to these kinds of things. Pussy makes him stupid. Earlier that day he fantasized about what color panties you might be wearing under your skirt. He had to force himself to look away when you bent down to grab something you'd dropped, he'd feel like a creep knowing he'd get off to a mishap like that. But he imagined you in pink, red, white, lace, satin, and everything in between.
He's surprised to find that you're not wearing any of those, you're not wearing anything at all.
He quirks an eyebrow up at you. "Brought me dessert, huh, hermosa?"
You nod. Yes, of course you did. Warm and glazed with your arousal.
"Quiero saborearte," he whispers, dragging you towards his eager mouth.
You're perfectly pliant for him. His grip on your hips, your ass, your thighs is steady but gentle. He tries to take his time. A woman is a delicacy. He should savor you. He gets lost in the sweetness, buries his face between your thighs and allows his restrained dedication to become messy and reverent.
You call him by his first name for the first time. Javier. It's all he recognizes in your jumbled sentences.
He hums an affirmation. Mm-hmm. You're okay. Mm-hmm. I know. Mm-hmm. Please, give it to me. Let go.
Your climax hits so hard you lurch forward and grab the headboard while Javi guides you through it. With how loud you're being, he's certain Murphy will be calling him to congratulate him on his good work.
But before that, he realizes the mistake he's made -- a cardinal sin if making love is a religion (and the way Javi views it, it should be) -- he hasn't kissed you.
"Dame un beso," he says.
When you kiss him, he finds that your lips are just as sweet as the other pair between your thighs.

Hey I just got my wisdom teeth removed so I’m wondering if you can write a fic where Sebastian Stan’s and Chris Evans’s characters takes care of reader after they got their wisdom teeth removed please 😊
Hey, I hope you are doing well, please take care. Also thank you for this ask, I had lots of fun writing this.
Tumblr media
Warnings- only fluff. ___________________
Sebastian Stan.
Bucky Barnes-
Bucky loves you and he was trying for you. It made him sad to see you this way, curled up on his couch, your eyes squeezed shut as you whine every now and then.
Bucky will panic and be worried at the same time. He would hold a cold compress on your face, help you to stay hydrated.
Every now and then he would ask, “Uh… do you want cold water?” “How about a cold juice?”, “ice cream is good, I brought your favorite flavor.” He’ll make sure to follow the instructions given by the dentist, to ease your pain.
Even in pain and swollen face, he thinks you're absolutely adorable.
You want his cool metal palm on you? It is all yours.
Oh, you are hungry? Even though he can’t cook, he will try his best, to make a soup for you. Bucky will go to the kitchen, a bit panicked and not sure what to do. He had never taken care of someone before, so this was all new to him. But you are not just someone, you are his doll.
He’ll do anything for you.
Nick Fowler-
Let’s say before the procedure even begin, Nick had warned the dentist, to go easy on you, to make it as painless as possible.
The dentist had told you; you did feel “little” pain. Nick was okay with that; you can deal with “little” pain. So why the hell are there tears in your eyes, because of the pain? Yup the dentist can kiss goodbye to their life job for lying.
Nick will not let you leave the bed. You will just relax and chill in the air-conditioned room. Everything will be at your service. From cold water to cold juices and ice creams.
There’s a min freezer in the room, full of cold- compression just for you.
You have a project to complete? Nope, not happening. You are just going to rest. The project can wait. Or the person who want’s the project done, can wait or say good bye to life it.
Lee Bodecker-
Lee just can’t stand, to see you in pain. He may not be good in taking care, but that does not mean, he won’t try.
He won’t eat sweets. If you can’t have them, he won’t have them either. You can only have soup? He’ll have soup too.
Before going out to work, he will remind you, to rest and take the pain killers, if absolute necessary.
But let’s face it. Looking after the town and the upcoming elections, he is tired. He has needs. The stress is making him crave something sweet.
So, he’ll come up with the best solution. He’ll go down on you. It’s a win-win situation for you two. He gets his dose of sweet, from eating you and you get the best distraction from the pain.
Chris Evans.
Steve Rogers-
Steve will instantly become the mother hen. Concern face on. Every fifteen minutes, he’ll ask “Hey, how are you feeling?”
He will gently examine your face, his fingers probing the swollen areas with a tender touch. “You're going to be okay, I'm here for you.” he says reassuringly.
He proceeds to pamper you with ice cream, painkillers, and a constant supply of cold compresses, even singing a soft rendition of ‘Star-Spangled Man with a Plan’ to distract you, from the discomfort. Even though he hates it. But for you, he’ll do anything. (Even take a break from avenging.)
Lloyd Hansen-
Let’s just say the dentist was bit hesitant, to treat you. Lloyd was sitting in the room, with pilers, just to make sure, you are having a painless treatment.
Back at the fortress of solitude, he has given everyone a strict order, to be quiet. No noise. Noise is ban. His sugar had a painful treatment and he’ll make sure you get to rest, without any disturbance.
He will lie down on the bed, next to you, letting you rest your head on his firm chest. Making you feel comfortable and safe. He gently caresses your hair, proud of himself, to see you are sleeping peacefully.
But someone makes a noise, waking you up. You whimper, because of the pain. He quickly gives you painkillers, kissing your forehead. He will find out who made the noise.
Lloyd removes that person’s tooth and makes the person wear headphones. Heavy metal playing in them. Let’s see how that person likes, getting disturb.
Lloyd, has filled the bedroom with magazines and books you like. Netflix ready to play. He has called in the best chefs, to make different types of delicious soups and ice-cream for you.
He will even let you play with his moustache.
Andy Barber-
As a district attorney, Andy is used to dealing with tough cases, but seeing you in pain, brings out his protective instincts. He proceeds to pamper you with ice cream, painkillers, cold compresses, music and even offering to make you a warm bath to relax.
As you two spend the day together, Andy tells you, stories of his courtroom victories and the latest town gossip, making you laugh despite your discomfort. He's determined to take your mind off the pain and make you feel loved and cared for.
Andy will keep on whispering, “You're doing great, love. Just remember, no strenuous activities for a while, okay?”
In the process of distracting you, he’ll end up distracting himself and you won’t even realize, when he started to do…..ahem

Jonathan’s line about Steve in vol 2 was so…. I don’t know. I mean yeah it straight up confirms that Nancy and Jonathan make fun of Steve behind his back, and like I get that I have never been in Nancy’s situation so obviously it seems more mortifying to me, but I would have felt so guilty in her place. I can’t imagine not shutting Jonathan up if he started shit talking about Steve. Like Steve would have been straight up unmentionable if I was Nancy. Idk.
I get that Duffers don’t treat their characters emotional lives seriously, but like. That’s why Robin being kind to Nancy in s5 despite Nancy’s uh.. well frankly appalling attitude towards Robin, makes zero sense to me. I really wanted Nancy to struggle being in Steve’s group. Not in the “she deserves it bhahaha” way, but like… Steve dumped his friends for her (which was good for him), and her expecting to get the same treatment and meeting Robin instead? Who actively dislikes her and for a good reason? Who is smart and cool and kind? That’s way more interesting than people kissing Nancy’s ass the whole season, while she is actively putting Max’s life in danger. Like, yeah in high school she is the chief editor of the newspaper, and at home she is the eldest sister, and with Jon she makes fun of Steve, and now none of these people are here, but Steve is here and so is his bestie. And Steve is as kind as always, but Robin dislikes her, and it is not just prejudice
Nancy Wheeler you wild girl! She has no guilt lmao She's like yeah steve was dumb and annoying and didn't enable my investigation, and jon goes yep, what an idiot. All while Steve is just like. bumpin around making friends with little nerds haha. Minding his own business blaming himself for the end of their relationship. You're right, it's kinda bonkers because even if we take the stance that Nancy didn't cheat (which I believe she did) like. she still had him as her second choice and as soon as he pushed back a bit and didn't give her the kind of support she wasn't telling him she needed (until talking about exposing the lab in the library where anyone could hear) she jumped ship and ran to Jonathan. Why would she want to talk about Steve? Why wouldn't she want to try to forget he ever existed as anything other than Mike's friend Dustin's older friend? Is that not weird for her?
(i think you might mean s4? but i can work with s5 too haha) It's so much more compelling to me to have Nancy and Robin at odds with each other because Robin is like a little guard chihuahua holding a grudge for Steve. She holds grudges so well let her do it more!! like jesus give him someone in his corner! And also for herself! She got so nervous and tried to explain and defend herself, and Nancy only really started to listen once they got into the hospital. Nancy has a not great plan that puts one of the kids in danger, one of the kids Steve is close to. (Max wrote him a letter!!) I think Robin would really see Steve's people as her people, even if she wasn't personally close to them she'd still feel comfortable around the younger teens because Steve is? Let robin be critical of this plan. Let her call it out or something. Give Nancy someone to push against, it's no fun if there's no resistance! I want Nancy to be the one wanting friendship with Robin, and Robin not being receptive to it. Nancy not having a relationship handed to her would be refreshing and I want to see how she'd try to win Robin's friendship.
Let Robin not want to work with Nancy because she's heard the rumours about how her and Steve ended, even though he only mentioned that he wasn't a good boyfriend ans wasn't what she needed so it didn't work out. Robin saw that one week Steve and Nancy had a fight, and a day later she was ditching with Jonathan? yeah something is fishy there to even the most socially oblivious person. Let Robin know Steve well enough that she knew he at least thought he was telling the truth but that there must have been more. Let Robin decide she was going to do the most cliche best friend thing and not be very nice to the ex that broke her bestie's heart.
ooooh anon what you're saying is so interesting because, yeah. Steve dumped Tommy and Carol for Nancy, and that was good for him, and then Nancy got with Jonathan who doesn't really have any friends in Hawkins. So she's always been her boyfriend's main person of similar age they're close to. But now Steve's got Robin. Who is funny and kind and weird and loyal and smart and sarcastic. Who is obsessed with Steve and who Steve is also obsessed with. And that, from a s5 stancy pov, is so interesting because now Nancy is now competing (in her mind) for her boyfriend/potential bf's attention with his best friend. Like Jonathan was focused on his family, obviously (and this caused strain for them too) but it's not the same socially as a best friend taking priority. Steve would still hold those relationships, because they're good for him and good for the others, and there's zero reason for him to abandon them this time.
I think Nancy would hate it. Like Steve would obviously give her tonnes of attention, but with him having actual close friendships not just with Robin but Dustin and Max (at least) too, she'd still feel like she was bartering for time with him. That is suuuuch a fun potential dynamic between nancy and steve and also nancy and steve's friends.

Past Fights and Bloodlines

Pairing: Danny Williams x McGarrett!reader, Steve McGarrett x McGarrett!reader (Cousins)
Characters: McGarrett!reader (Cousin), Steve McGarrett, Danny Williams, Chin Ho Kelly, Kono Kalakaua
Warnings: Fluff, hehe I love this so much, Danny and reader met once years ago, I am hinting at the one wresting movie Scott Caan did in the early 2000′s, why was this so much fun to write?, this is purely Hawaii Five-0 crack, Steve acting more like an older brother than he does a cousin, reader wants Danny for herself and Steve can’t stop you, ignore Chin’s one semi cringey comment (no regrets)
Word Count: 1,382
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"There's a fight in town," Steve brings up out of nowhere as you mess with the items on his desk.
"And?"
He watches you, wondering why you’re not as enthused as him. "And? I'm asking if my favorite cousin wants to go."
You glance up at him with furrowed brows. "Steve, I'm you're only cousin."
He rolls his eyes. "So, you wanna go or not?"
"I never said no. Let's go." You push yourself out of your chair.
"It's not for another three hours."
You spin around to stare at him, holding the back of the chair. "Yeah, I know. You're treating me to dinner before we go."
"Oh, am I?"
"You dragged me here for a case, the least you can do is take me to dinner."
"I like her," Danny smiles, standing in the doorway of Steve's office.
"Shut up, Danno."
You take a step away from the chair and smile at your cousin's partner. "Thank you, Daniel."
"Danny," he corrects you.
"Daniel sounds better, I'll use Danny for when you're in trouble. Don't cross me."
He nods and looks away from you. "Don't cross you, got it."
"Now if you'll excuse us. Steven and I are going to dinner and then go to the fight."
"Ooh, where you guys going?"
"Don't know," you shrug. "You wanna come. He's paying."
Steve stands up, trying to chime in. "He doesn't-"
"I'd love to. Thank you for inviting me."
"We have much to talk about."
"Yes, yes we do." He holds his arm out, gesturing for you to go out first.
"Thank you."
"Of course, I'm not an animal."
"No, you are not. You're more polite than some people."
Danny smirks as you two walk by Chin and Kono.
Steve exits his office and mutters to himself. "I'm going to regret this, aren't I?"
"Not at all, boss," Kono pats his shoulder.
"It's going to be an entertaining night for you," Chin adds.
"I don't like you two right now."
"That's okay. We still love you, big Kuhuna."
Steve shakes his head and jogs out of the room, needing to catch up to you two before more bonding happens.
-
"I'll be back, do either of you want a beer or something?" You ask.
Steve nods, giving you, his order.
"No thank you. I'd like to be able to get through story time without any issues."
You nod. "I'll be back."
It takes you a few minutes before you make it to the seats. "Oh sorry. Excuse me. Coming through." You managed to get on the opposite side from where the others were and sigh, walking back towards them.
"Sorry, excuse me." You start walking down the aisle. "Excuse me."
You're three people away from your crew.
"I finally made- woah."
Danny places his hands on your waist, preventing you from bumping into him and him into you.
You smile at him, "thank you, Daniel."
"No problem."
"Steve, your drink."
Once you get situated, you begin to relax.
You scream and shout for the wrestler you want to win, which makes Danny raise a brow. Not entirely expecting you to be so into it.
You enjoy yourself until someone bumps into you, spilling your food. "Hey, jerkwad."
The guy turns around and shrugs you off.
"You spill my food; you pay for another."
"You're the one that was in my way."
"Are you serious?"
"Go bug someone else lady."
"Oh, you-"
Danny grabs you and pulls you back before you can attack the rude guy as Steve steps forward, taking care of the situation. "Let's not hurt the guy, no matter how rude he was and sit back down."
"I don't even care that he bumped into me, and I spilled my food. It's the price. I paid for Steve's beer and my small snack which is now on the floor-"
"I know. How about this, after the match. I take you out to get something to make up for his jerky behavior."
You spin around in his arms, staring at him for a few seconds. "I think we can arrange that, and I promise I won't keep you for long since you have story time tonight."
"I appreciate that."
"Then it's a date."
"A- a date?"
You think he doesn't want to go on a date with you, making you rethink your question. "Not a date?"
"No, no. I never said that."
"Good, I think we'll have a good time."
-
"Why're you so happy?" Steve asks you as you step inside.
"No reason. I'm going to bed. Night."
"No, no. Get back here and tell me why Danny just pulled out of my driveway."
"I was on a date."
"You are not allowed to date coworkers."
"I can date whoever I want. It's not like any of you have ever followed that rule."
"This is different-"
"Why? Because I'm your family and you don't want William’s blood to taint the McGarrett bloodline if we ever get that far."
"Oh, gross!"
"Grow up, Steven. He's going to be coming around a lot more, whether you like it or not."
-
Danny texted you saying he's here.
You walk down the stairs with a pep in your step as you stand in front of the door, fixing your hair (Danny does the same). "Hi, Daniel."
"How many times am I going to tell you to call me Danny."
"Every day, if you'd like."
"Oh, is that right?" He smirks.
"Come on in. I'm about to make coffee. You want some?"
"I would, thank you." He barely takes his eyes off you as you close the door.
“You’re really into the fight, when- uh- when that’d happen?”
You shrug, “I’ve always been into wrestling.”
“You reminded me of this one time; I went when I was a teenager, and I took this guy I knew years ago. We sat next to this girl who was basically like you were yesterday and then my friend came back and bumped into her, spilling everything she got all over the lap.”
“The same thing happened to me. My family and I just moved to this one town and my dad was working while mom was doing her thing in the navy. I was having a bad day and I- wrestling was my only out. I never participated in it but watching it was my escape. Anyway, this dumbass came around and bumped into me. His friend pulled him away before I could, well, do anything.”
“Oh, really?” He asks with interest. “The girl my friend ran into reached over me and socked him. I think-”
That reminds you of the scar on your hand. “Yeah, and I ripped my knuckle on his braces.”
“- She ripped her knuckle on his braces.”
Your eyes widen. “Holy.”
“Wow.”
You clap your hands together. "How about breakfast?"
"Are you cooking?"
"Steve's not back from his run yet, so it'll be me cooking."
"I'll accept."
You push him away, letting him settle on top of the counter on the side of the stove. "How about you make the coffee and I work on breakfast?"
"Deal."
"Do you know how the coffee machine works?"
"I think I can figure it out."
"Great, you get started on the coffee and I'll do my thing."
Steve locks the door behind him and opens his mouth to call out for you, only to hear laughter coming from the kitchen. He rolls his eyes and wanders to the kitchen. "I don't like this."
"Too bad. He's hot and I like him."
"Please don't ever say that again."
"No, please say it again. I'm what?" Danny smiles at you.
"You're hot and I like you."
"Thank you. You, yourself look phenomenal."
"You're such a charmer."
"I'm going to the office before I need to bleach my eyes."
"Okay, just hope we don't need to bleach the kitchen."
Danny's eyes widen and his jaw drops.
You cover his mouth and quietly shush him. "Go along with it," you whisper.
"If I smell even a drop of-"
"Go away, Steve." He shakes his head and walks out of his house, trying to erase any kind of traumatic vision you put in his mind.
"Did you figure out the coffee machine?"
"I think I broke it."
"I'll buy him a new one later."

Best friends part 2
Part 1
Not proofread
Tumblr media
Y/N was up all night, her brain couldn't shut off.
She went from being with no one, to now having two boys after her. It made no sense.
A part of her was happy to hear about Eddie possibly liking her in a more than friendly way. But her head wanted to remind her of his actions. He hurt her and he kept hurting her. Would he have even apologized if Steve never went over there?
Steve, now her brain ran to Steve. He technically did nothing wrong. He was sweet and such a gentleman. It was obvious he was into her and he has been. She never once had to question his intentions.
But Eddie? It felt so random and a change of character.
It hurts to admit but she really thinks Eddie just enjoyed how she felt about him. That made him feel special and good. It's normal to feel that way when someone tells you that they love you. But did he ever feel anything before she told him?
She really doesn't think so.
~~
The next few days were awkward. Every time she looked at Eddie her head hurt. And every time she saw Steve she felt like running to him and crying.
~~
She made sure to take time to think about this. Someone was going to end up hurt. That's what happens when you find yourself in a love triangle.
She had to think with her head because her heart betrayed her too many times.
Her heart wants Eddie, and it wants Eddie so bad.
But her brain keeps reminding her Steve was the right choice. Steve was someone her heart could learn to love. Someone her heart could learn to want.
~~
Standing outside Eddie's trailer had her feeling sick. She never once has been so scared to see her best friend.
Every second she waited for him to open the door was another second of her wanting to run, make an escape.
But she had to do this.
So when he opened the door with a small smile, she took a deep breath.
Here goes nothing.
~~
"Eddie I know I still love you. And I think I will for a long time. And I can't lie, when you said you feel strong feelings for me too I was excited. I was happy. But I don't think your feelings came from your heart. I think you got caught up with the idea of someone loving you. And it's being taken away and you are jumping into action. Doing what you can to make that feeling stay. But I can't Eddie. Steve has done nothing wrong. He hasn't hurt me like you have."
She hated that his eyes filled tears. She could see the guilt and regret meeting each other in his eyes
"maybe if we went about this differently. Maybe if you didn't turn on me because I wanted to move on from you."
He nodded along. Everything she said was right. He was an asshole and he had to face the consequences of it.
"Eddie, you are my best friend. And I want to stay in your life and I want you in mine. But you had your chance with me. You had years to find out your feelings for me. You had your chance for a long time. But now-"
He cut her off. It felt like he was choking on the words, trying to breathe through the cracks.
"But now is Steve's chance." He smiled at her sadly. He had a feeling where this conversation was going to go.
"um yes. That's exactly what I was going to say." She slightly laughed. Eddie always knew how to finish her sentences. She smiled at the moment.
Eddie sat closer to her and wrapped his arm around her shoulder.
"you're right. He deserves a fair chance. And I'm not going to ruin that. I should never have been an asshole about anything of this. Steve is actually a good guy. And I know he's going to treat you well."
Her heart warmed at his confession. She kissed his cheek softly and mumbled out a soft "thank you"
Eddie laughed to break the silence. Wiping his tears and hers. He clapped his hands on her shoulder.
"now let's go get your man!" He exclaimed as he grabbed his keys. She laughed as she followed him out the door.
Now that is her Eddie.
~~
"what if he changed his mind?" Y/N was terrified. Maybe she was too much drama for Steve.
Steve graduated, he's probably done with high school drama.
Eddie sighed as he neared Steve's street.
"don't be ridiculous. He definitely did not change his mind." He encouraged her. She tried to let it help but inside she was still filled with doubt.
Once Eddie pulled into his driveway, she took a deep breath.
"Hey, he's going to pick you too." Eddie said as he patted her thigh.
She smiled at him softly and unbuckled her seatbelt.
She gave herself a pep talk as she knocked on Steve's door.
~~
Steve was surprised to see Y/N standing at this front door. His eyes caught sight of Eddie and his van. He was even more confused.
"um what's going on?" Steve asked, nerves clear on in his voice. He secretly prayed that this wasn't her breaking up with him. She'll leave him and go kiss Eddie and drive away.
"I have something I wanted to tell you." She smiled at him brightly. That eased his nerves slightly.
"I wanted to say first that it was very sweet of you to step aside for Eddie. You definitely did not need to do that at all."
He nodded. He was trying not to freak out. Not sure which way this conversation was going.
"and second I want you Steve. I understand if there is too much drama for you. And this whole love triangle turned you off in a way. I totally get it and I wouldn't blame you for sending me back to the car. But you made me feel all the things I've been wanting to feel for years. I don't even know if I can make you feel half as special as you make me. But if you still want me, I would love to be your girlfriend still."
Steve couldn't wipe the smile off of his face. His heart is practically running.
She wanted him
She was picking him
For once, Steve was the first choice.
"YO HARRINGTON. THIS IS THE PART WHERE YOU KISS HER!" Eddie yelled from the van.
Y/N laughed into her hands, blushing painfully hard.
She shyly looked back at Steve, who was blushing too.
"you can if you want to." She whispered softly.
Steve didn't waste a second. He cupped her face and smashed his lips onto hers.
As cheesy as it was, fireworks exploded in his chest.
They smiled into each other's lips so hard they weren't even kissing much anymore.
Steve got the girl.

(me after making a promise to myself i would shut up about the last season of TUA bc i need to calm down) AND ANOTHER 11 THINGS:
1) have the show runners forgotten all about their characters trauma?? klaus being buried ALIVE would’ve been a great callback to the mausoleum. the gunshots?? VIETNAM?? also i loooove how we forgot all about dave, who cares am i right!!
2) the fact that the show is basically telling these characters that have suffered years upon years of unrelenting abuse ‘hey ur dick of a father was actually right to treat u like trash. u ARE literally the reason the world is shit! u need to erase urself from existence bc u being born is a crime teehee <3’ NOT THE MOVE STEVE
3) five surviving 40+ years in the apocalypse and doing everything in his power to try to save his family + never giving up on trying to find a way home, even willing to rip the timeline into pieces so they can be SAFE, only to? what? let them sacrifice themselves to save the world when he would have rather doomed it to keep them alive? not only that but ur telling me he was ready to abandon his family to stay with lila after getting stuck in a subway for 6-7 years? how can u misread a character SO BAD
4) luther was smart enough to be an astronaut but… strip him of his powers and he’s nothing? same with diego?? diego knows how to fight y'know, his powers have no reflection on that at all? don't they only affect the trajectory thingie? also all the ‘chubby diego’ comments... STAY AWAY
5) so ur telling me, ME, that the subject of ben’s death never once came up? let us remember he was with klaus 24/7 in ghost form. ur telling me, especially when they were still living under reggie’s roof or when they went back home for their dad's funeral, that ben’s DEATH, that he was ruthlessly killed by their own father, never came up? really? never? ‘oh maybe ben didn’t realise it was his father that shot him’ ok so he would’ve asked klaus???? like what are u saying!!
6) why did the marigold give them different/upgraded powers? which btw, isn’t luther’s power superhuman strength? why did they put him back in the monkey suit? did they fucking forget about his OG power 😭
7) what about the other kids? weren’t there like 43 kids that were born on august 8th, including the hargreeves? don’t they also have the marigold inside their bodies?
8) reginald’s redemption arc… sick and twisted
9) why was jennifer in a squid lol. why was jennifer in this at all, her character was never explained! also sparrow ben… didn’t he have his own version of the jennifer incident back home? y'know, that one woman he drew almost obsessively? haha :) did they forget about that? 🥰
10) what the fuck is up with the timeline underground. it’s never explained? it’s just there? also if allison + lila erase themselves from existence, doesn't that mean their kids... would cease to exist?
11) steve blackman when i catch u it’s on sight

hi zainab!!!! 2, 3, 6, and 29 for the fic writer ask???
Hi Mak! Thank you for sending these in!
2. Do you read/reread your own fics?
Yes, because I am absolutely my own biggest fan!
On a much more practical note, sometimes I reread because it's part of a series and I'm checking a canonical detail (although if it's in the Bake Off AU I'm better off just asking @sesamestreep, who is the official lorekeeper and knows that universe's canon better than I do.) Other times, there's a fic where I just really like what I did with a character's voice or the general tone of a scene and I'll go back just to get a feel for what I did the last time.
3. What’s your favorite fic that you’ve written?
I mean, the Bake Off AU has my whole heart and there's so much of me in it that it will always be special to me BUT!!! I really love the Thunderbolts-era epistolary fic counted days, counted miles because I think it's an exercise in me managing to show writerly restraint, which is a skill I'm still working on. (And also I got to come up with so many fun spy tricks for hiding letters; it was great.)
6. Are there any fics from others you reread all the time?
How fortuitous that you picked this question when I have reread wish that i could wind (like a spiral stair through time) FIVE TIMES in the past month. That fic is a work of art. I am also never far from rereading and never ever watch the ten o'clock news, which is Emma's phenomenal Psych AU of Rogue One which is just so wonderful and funny and it continues to hold up. Oh also! There's don't read the last page, which is a Brooklyn Nine-Nine fic that is short and sweet and just so warm and cozy and I go back to that one a lot just for the mood of it.
29. Share a bit from a fic you’ll never post OR from a scene that was cut from an already posted fic.
Okay so this question reminded me that there's a 1200 word scene from the Formula 1 AU that was originally going to be the epilogue but got canned which SUBSEQUENTLY reminded me that there's a whole scene that I wrote for the Bake Off AU that got cut from Chapter 6 because things ended up going another way!
The beginning will looks familiar if you remember anything from that chapter, but then there's a sharp left turn that involves the lost plot point of Becca Barnes creeping on Joaquín's thirst trap and restaurant review filled Instagram in order to figure out where Bucky could go for dinner. I was sad to lose it tbh but the restaurant still made it into the fic as the place where Sam and Bucky go out on their definitely-not-a-date in Chapter 10.
A peek at the alternate timeline under the cut!
Bucky is starfished on his bed, trying to muster the energy to get up when his phone rings. His eyes are squeezed shut, but he opens one to peer at the screen. He only answers because it’s Becca, but he’s too tired to do more than grunt into the phone when he picks up.
“Good day, huh?” she asks, laughing when he just groans in response.
“Hope yours was better than mine,” Bucky says, when he finally manages to talk. “How’s day shift treating you?”
“I’m discovering that there’s this thing in the sky called the sun, and it provides light? And makes people happy? Do you think other people know about it? Should I be telling them?”
He laughs tiredly. “You can use all this newfound energy to make a TikTok about it.”
“I’ll get on that,” Becca says. “What about you? You okay?”
“Yeah,” says Bucky, bringing his hand up to his face. “I just need to lie down for a while.”
Not that lying down for the past half hour has helped, but he’s got high hopes for that sixty minute mark.
“No, what you need to do is eat something,” Becca says, sounding remarkably like their mother. “Tell me your head isn’t hurting right now.”
Bucky freezes, his fingers still pressed into his temples. “It’s creepy when you do that, you know.”
She laughs. “I know. Hey, why don’t you go to that place that you and Steve went to all the time, the one with the waffles?”
The last time Bucky had been there, four years ago, he’d spent the entire evening bickering companionably with Sam while Steve dealt with a work emergency. It had felt remarkably like flirting, and he’d even thought about asking Sam to get a drink sometime—and then Bucky had been eliminated after the next day’s Showstopper, and that put an end to that.
He shakes his head to clear it. “I’m tired, Bec, and they pick us up at like, six AM. I think I might just grab something from the convenience store.”
“Buck, I spend half my time listening to newborn babies cry and that is still the most pitiful thing I’ve heard this week. You are not eating yogurt for dinner alone in your hotel room.”
Bucky huffs. “Well, I’d grab a random stranger off the street to join me, but I’m not looking to get murdered today, Rebecca.”
He can hear the sound of Becca typing, doing the thing where she studiously ignores his asshole behavior until he comes around and starts acting a more like a person. It’s annoying how well it works.
After a minute or two of typing and what he assumes is scrolling, she lets out a, “Huh.”
When he waits for her to elaborate and she doesn’t, Bucky sighs. “What is it?”
“Do you know a Joaquín Torres?”
It’s far from the question he was expecting but Bucky answers in the affirmative. “He’s a baking consultant on the show.”
More typing. “Does he have good taste?”
There’s a tiny, childish part of Bucky that wants to say no, because Torres is chirpy and bright-eyed and his unfailing enthusiasm is exhausting at times, but that would be a lie. “Yeah, he knows his stuff. Why?”
“He lives in Atlanta; he posts about a lot of local hidden gems. There’s a Tunisian restaurant a couple blocks from your hotel, apparently? Kind of looks like a hole in the wall but he says the food is amazing.”
“I don’t know, Bec. It’s late and eating out alone is depressing.” His limbs feel heavy, and his shoulder is starting to hurt from having the prosthetic on for so long, and he knows that food would make his headache go away, but he just can’t drag himself off the bed.
Like Becca knows what track his mind is on—and honestly, she probably does—, she chooses this moment to go for the knockout. “Come on, Buck; it’s my job to look out for you, and you’re too far away for me to drag you out to dinner and make sure you eat. Throw a girl a bone here.”
She’s too powerful for her own good.
Bucky drags a hand down his face, sighing again. “You know, I hear some people don’t let their baby sisters tell them what to do all the time.”
“Poor them,” says Becca.
“Poor them,” echoes Bucky, and asks her to text him the address.
When she does, he looks it up and realizes that it really is only two blocks away: completely walkable, even in Atlanta’s late spring heat, and only a little further than the convenience store where he’d planned to grab his apparently pathetic dinner.
It’s only when he gets to the door of the restaurant that he remembers it’s a Saturday night and he probably should have thought to make a reservation. The place only has a handful of tables to begin with, and they’ve all got people at them. The host already has an apologetic look on his face as Bucky walks in, but they both turn in surprise when they hear someone inside the restaurant call out to him.
“Bucky!” says Joaquín, as brightly as ever. “Come sit with us.”
Because the universe has a sense of humor, ‘us’ is of course Joaquín and Sam, who are having dinner together. Alone. On a Saturday night.
It can’t be a date, Bucky reasons. No one would invite a random acquaintance to third-wheel their date, right?
He realizes that he still hasn’t responded when the host assures him that of course they’ll be able to add another place setting to the table, and before he knows it, Bucky is being whisked over to their table.
Whatever mood had settled over Sam after the signature today seems to have dissipated, and he turns to Bucky with a grin on his face. “I hope you trust Torres over here, because he ordered way too much food for us and didn’t let me see the menu.”
Joaquín shrugs. “I come here a lot,” he says. “Not enough people know about it, but it’s amazing.”
“Which is why he’s on a mission to be their one-man marketing team,” says Sam. “We got here half an hour ago and he’s already posted on Instagram like, ten times.”
Bucky thinks of the sound of Becca on her computer as she’d talked to him earlier, how she’d pivoted from suggesting the diner he’d probably have ended up at to this specific restaurant, and suddenly, this coincidence feels markedly less like a coincidence.
He’d probably feel more annoyed about it if he didn’t spend the meal close enough to Sam for their shoulders to constantly be brushing. Torres is right; the food is great, but if anyone asks, Bucky’s pretty sure the only thing he’d be able to recount is how many times Sam touched his arm to ask him to pass things, or dished some more food onto his plate, or gently nudged him while telling Joaquín stories of their time filming season two.
When the check comes, Bucky insists on paying, to make up for crashing Sam and Joaquín’s dinner, and as they stand on the sidewalk outside the restaurant, Joaquín offers to drop them off at the hotel on his way home. He’s about to accept when Sam waves it off.
“I think we’ll just walk back,” says Sam. “It’s so nice out, and the hotel’s probably closer than your car is.”
There’s a moment where all three of them silently commiserate over the trials of city parking, and then Joaquín says he’ll see them tomorrow and heads off.
Bucky glances sidelong at Sam, whose eyebrows are knitted together as he looks down the street towards their hotel. He can see the entrance from where they’re standing, but Sam gently touches his elbow and nods down the street to their left—the long way, Bucky realizes, a moment too late.

♡ hair care - s.h ♡
requested by 🐍<3
steve harrington x fem!wavy/curly hair!reader, fluff
steve is determined to make sure you're treating your hair well
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
there were many polaroids of steve stuck all over your room, some charming and stunning, others ridiculous and brilliant.
your favourite by far had to be the one of steve washing your hair. your head was thrown back in laughter, eyes scrunched shut, while steve ran his fingers full of curl cream through your waves.
the day he discovered you had no strict hair care routine, and consistently fried it with straightners, he'd sprung into action, pulling up countless sources to tell you why you should be more careful.
it was a baby photo, spotted when you both visited your parents for dinner one night. on the mantle piece rested a small you in a frame, curls and waves and wisps immortalised in images until you hit the age of thirteen.
steve insisted for you try to salvage your hair, for good.
you'd shrugged, said "that sounds like a lot of effort", and expected him to drop it.
really, you should've known better.
"steve, what on earth are you carrying?"
your first question to him the next day when he knocked on your door instead of just using his key. upon letting him in, you could see why, with multiple boxes piled atop each other.
how he didn't fall over from the car to your house, you'd never know. maybe he had, and you just didn't see.
"what've you got there then, love?"
steve smiled proudly at you, splaying the boxes across your bed and finding a small notebook he'd stuffed between them, his scrawling print across the page.
he cleared his throat, "i've written down a couple of different potential hair routines for you, i thought we could try them out and stuff."
you wanted to protest about the time and effort, but the way your boyfriend looked at you, like this was the most enjoyable thing he could do with his saturday, had you caving instantly.
"sure, let's give them a try."
it took a few weeks, some apologies, a lot of frazzle, but steve did it. he found the perfect hair care steps for you. he learnt how to dry your hair properly, he learnt all the tricks. he went above and beyond to secure your confidence in your curls.
the routine became something you looked forward to all the time. sitting in the bathroom with steve, him on the edge of the bath and you on the counter, both working through individual hair care, the time and effort you'd been concerned with became incredibly fun.
one night, steve slept over, as he did many nights, and you realised lots of his product had migrated into your bathroom. it was a nice feeling of domesticity, doing your hair together.
you appreciated the sentiment even more when you were in the midst of an argument, and still did the hair plans together. helping each other wash out the bits they couldn't reach, with significantly less chatter than usual.
it was nice. that was the only word for it.
sometimes, steve would bring you a drink while you two inhabited the bathroom for at least an hour. tea in winter, cherry cola in spring onwards.
many polaroids joined your wall, with one of your favourites pinned right by where you laid your head every night.
you and steve, giddy and grinning, holding up to the camera all the creams and masks and shampoos and conditioners and sprays you'd bought.
it was nice to have someone care enough to do what steve did with you.
steve was nice, even lovely, and you told him that all the time as he would smooth the tighter curls from your face.
if someone had ever told you hair would be the thing to bring you and steve harrington even closer, you'd have scoffed at them. not because you wouldn't believe them, it was common knowledge steve loved his hair. you'd scoff because the idea of steve harrington in the same room as your shower was laughable. but you were wrong, in the end.
steve harrington is a nice guy.

PART FOUR:
You wake up from a knock at your door but not your front door but from your bedroom door. You were so confused and barely awake but at this point if it’s a killer you ain’t awake enough to fight them off so you just thought “welp I lived a good short life” so you then said "Umm..Hello?”“Babe, can I come in?” Your face hit the pillow in disappointment. You were honestly hoping for someone else…in this moment anyone else would be better. *Mumbling into the pillow I think I'll take the killer instead.” You then sit back up and answer. “Yeah Sure.” Then the door opens and Steve comes in and sits at the end of your bed. “Hey babe.” You sharply reply “Hi.” “Ouch. Why so hash with me? I didn’t mean to wake you up..” You just blankly look at him and let out a laugh before answering “You’re kidding me right Steve? Like this a joke right? Because if you are being serious then you’re unbelievable.” “No I'm not kidding, what did I do?” Being full of hate and anger you left no room for true thought and just blurted out. “Get. OUT!” You hated acting or feeling this way but what did he expect after how he’s been treating you. “Excuse me?” Steve was both shocked and confused. You never acted like this. If you did it was rare and for a reason. Yet he can’t understand what that reason is. But you didn’t let him get a word in. “Did I stutter Harington?! GET OUT! Of my room, of my house, and I don’t know maybe use that damn brain. Because I'm sick and tired of everyone, even strangers, being able to tell what’s wrong or what’s going on but you!”“Babe le-” You cut him off “Save it. Leave or I'm calling Hopper.” Unable to reason with you or even see how he was in the wrong, he decides to go “Fine geez.” You then hear the door shut and you're quick to go lock it behind him. You yet again sink into the sofa. “What a morning, an awful shitty morning.” You were so upset but you had one thing to look forward to. Seeing Eddie, seeing Eddie always made things better. You almost thought about asking to ditch the party and go somewhere else but the last thing you need is to be accused of anything awful. But a party was the last thing you wanted to go to. You only wanted to go to spend time with Eddie. So with that being said you watched time fly and it was finally an appropriate time to get ready. So you went in to take a shower and do just that. You told Eddie beforehand if he was early to just use the spare key come in and wait. There was no need to sit in the van and waste gas. So of course the boy came early why wouldn’t he and he did just as he was told. He didn’t snoop either, he just sat on the sofa listening to the music you were playing. At that moment Talking In Your Sleep by The Romantics started to play and you were finished getting ready but had no idea you were no longer alone. When alone you jam out with no shame and this song was a new favorite. You hate that you haven’t had it in your life sooner and you jam out to it so much. So naturally before even checking if you had a guest or someone may be outside you were in your own little world about to jam your little heart out. You end up bumping into the wall mid song? At least you thought….“Hi Star.” You just freeze and turn around with red cheeks. Then speak Nervously. “Eddsss Hi. Soooo.”“Don’t worry I didn’t see a thing *winks and I won't tell a soul.”“Don’t do that.”“Do what? Tell? There is nothing to tell?”“No, wink.”“Ohhh *winks again.”“Stop that.”‘Why?” You now avoid the whole thing and just pull him out the door. “Ok let’s go.” *Eddie laughs “Okay Star.” As you guys are on the way to the party Eddie turns the music down for a moment. “Hey Star?””Yes Eddie?” This time his cheeks were turning red, “You look beautiful tonight.” *long pause “Not that you never do just that we are going to a party and you got kinda dressed up an-” You cut him off “Thank you Edds and you look very handsome. I’d say always butttt” Just as Eddie turned his head to go and defend himself he caught you smiling like some dummy and it was all because of him so he decided to say something else instead…

In addition to that ask about Robin and Nancy in s4 and having Robin in Steve's corner and have it be Nancy vying for Robin's attention, instead of the other way:
In s4, like I get the whole "portraying Robin as babbling and nervous and rambling uncontrollably" but even with all that, I just found their scenes in s4 kind of weird?? Like yeah Robin was nervous and rambling, but I just can't see why Robin would keep trying to connect with Nancy when she was very obviously annoyed with her and Robin kept ramming up against the "annoyed wall" Nancy had put up between them.
In the library, as soon as the scene starts, Nancy acts annoyed and fed up with Robin. It's like she's already decided and barely gives her a chance before she's just annoyed with her. It's like she puts all of her annoyance up like a wall between them and doesn't want to give Robin the time of day. They barely know each other (and Robin should definitely have her misconceptions about Nancy, if not from Steve then from rumours and deciding to put herself in Steve's corner, even though he never asked her to) but Nancy has still decided to be fed up and annoyed with Robin as soon as she opens her mouth and does so very obviously. Like, Nancy is so incredibly annoyed and irritated and does not care about Robin knowing that. It is so blatantly obvious from just looking at her in those scenes.
I don't understand why Robin is unaffected by that. Even if she sometimes has problems understanding social cues and body language, Robin absolutely catches on to Nancy's annoyance and her totally ignoring her. She literally says, "you seem annoyed" so she absolutely catches Nancys annoyance. And with experience she already has from being a nerd and social outcast, she'd take that more to heart. She says it herself, "believe me, my mom reminds me daily". So it would be a sore spot. And any time other moments or people get into that sore spot and fucks it up again, that's gonna hurt! So I just don't understand why robin would be totally unaffected by that and keep chasing Nancy's acceptance and friendship. She should clam up the second Nancy puts her into "annoying girl who just yabs away with nothing important to say" box. Nancy hates when men treat her badly and are sexist around her, so why the fuck is she treating Robin the same way, just with a different kind of brush?? And expect Robin to not take it to heart?
I don't get it. And I don't get why Robin is still chasing Nancy after Nancy very blatantly ignored her, was incredibly annoyed with her for talking and rambling in a high stress and scary situation (which would make rambling nervously understandable!), and put up a wall between them, to try and shut her out. All with an annoyed, irritated air about her.
I just. Like the other ask said, Robin should have been in Steve's corner from the start and not want Nancy's friendship, so it had been Nancy chasing after Robin's friendship. And we'd get a chance to see Nancy struggle with forming a connection to another girl for the first time since she lost Barb and how she would go about that with that inner conflict. While also getting someone putting Steve first and prioritising him above others.
I absolutely wish we had gotten the Nancy & Robin dynamic that the anon suggested. That feels so much more compelling (and true to Robin's character) than having her desire Nancy's attention and friendship, because it's Nancy and we should all love and see her as the ultimate morality character who can do no wrong
This is the ask I think you're talking about?
First things first, I have to defend Nancy a bit in that library scene. From her pov, she just found out her friend died while she took him to a crime scene prior. Then this girl she doesn't know, who is best friends with her ex who she has complicated feelings about just talks to her non-stop. Robin also questions her idea and doesn't really believe in what Nancy says, so of course, she is annoyed. It's a normal reaction. I would have been annoyed as well. However, my issue is that Nancy never apologized for it, and it's brushed aside in the show. There could have been a scene when Robin found the Creel story where Nancy was like hey sorry for earlier are we good now? But nope, instead, the show made Robin kinda pathetic for continuing to want to impress Nancy even when she recognized that Nancy treated her rather badly.
For example, if Steve had behaved that way towards Robin, she would let him know that it wasn't okay the way he treated her. It's also telling that Steve apologizes as soon as he hurts someone. Like when he insulted Dustin in s4 and Dustin was like dude stop, Steve immediately checked his behavior. So why can't Nancy do the same? In general, I feel like she has a hard time apologizing, or the show just lets her off the hook than other characters.
You're right, imo Robin had no reason to be so desperate for Nancy's friendship. Like this is her best friend's ex who broke his heart, and she heard rumours about their messy breakup that included cheating. S3 Robin would at least be cautious about her. I don't even mind her rambling in s4 because that shows she's more comfortable around people, especially Steve. But she would still be masking around Nancy because she's not comfortable around her based on the information she had on her prior
And then, when Nancy makes her so uncomfortable that Robin has to explain herself to her and even tells her about her mom and how she thinks her personality is faulty, it just makes me so upset for Robin. Like Nancy totally sees that Robin is upset, she could have told her she needs a moment to process. That's all I needed, like some sort of confirmation that Nancy cares and wants to befriend Robin. Nancy only started to tolerate her after Robin proved herself multiple times that she was useful to her. And even when Nancy asked Robin if they were friends in the woods, she never said sorry for her past behavior. It just made Robin look so stupid, and I don't want that for her. Personally, after the library, I feel like Robin should have let Nancy know that she was hurt and distance herself a bit. Nancy then would have had the chance to reflect, and idk it would make platonic ronance so much better. S4 Robin felt ooc because in s3 she took no bullshit from Steve, why is Nancy different for her?
(Sidenote: People being annoyed with Vickie because she also rambles just don't get it. Like omg Robin sees this and is instantly put at ease. Vickie reassured her that her rambling isn't weird or faulty, Robin instantly feels drawn to her. She doesn't have to explain herself or even apologize for being herself like she has to with Nancy. Robin deserves someone who gets her.)
In general, letting Nancy be the driving force would do so much for her as a character, I can't state this enough. To me, Nancy never gets a chance to grow, which makes me sad. She still feels like s2 Nancy because she never gets to reflect on her behavior. She hurts people, but it gets brushed off so easily. She is capable of feeling hurt when it's inflicted on her, but when she treats others badly, she doesn't seem to understand that she is in the wrong. Like the show needs to let her feel the consequences, just because she isn't perfect doesn't mean it would make her a terrible character. It's the opposite, actually, characters being not Nancy's biggest fan, and her questioning her behavior is way more interesting than everyone liking her instantly or still liking her despite being hurt by her actions.
I also want someone being in Steve's corner for once. As a best friend, it's your duty to have your bff's' best interests at heart. Kinda side-eying their ex and not meddling to get them back together is like the bare minimum. Plus, after being not treated very well by said ex, Robin should definitely side with Steve more.
But again, I feel like because we have limited time, there is no room for much personal drama. It's easier to have everyone go along than let them fight. However, I think this season could have benefited from them fighting because the show needed the plan to go wrong. So, if the people were not on the same page, the plan being stupid would have been more believable. They were destined to fail because of inner personal problems.

this poem reminded me of bucky barnes (i just got into marvel comics like a few months ago lmao). particularly wrt nat. and of course the dog coding of both of them is very interesting to me also. dog as in a tool dog as in a loyal servant dog as in devoid of identity except for their place as a cog in the machine. what do you think?
ohhhhh i love u for this. hm yes obviously this is more bucky than nat but sidebar it has echos of younger nat in the red room/when she first starts out as black widow. i dont think she is as pathetically beaten down as ws bucky bc she’s never had her autonomy & personhood completely stripped away like him so she is not a tool like he is. like yes she’s had her memories altered and tampered with but essentially she could always think for herself and so she could always pick up and go. but when she was younger not really she just wanted to be a good little spy, ergo the dog, until she escapes the kgb and becomes the fugitive dog never to be chained again. however
the winter soldier is literally a nameless dog on a leash. they kick him when he whines. he sits and waits and speaks when he is spoken to and rolls over when he is told to. and it is all insanely brutal and violent but it is all he knows so he thinks ah well this is how the world works!!!! i am either going to be thoroughly violated or completely ignored!!! and so i must be Good and Obedient. good cog in machine. good soldier. and again its literally all he knows. and when i say knows i mean … idk how to explain it but essentially he’s cognitively impaired as the soldier: brainwashing + drugs + cryostasis have obviously done a number on him! and when he’s only let out for hours at a time before being shut back in—which means he can barely begin to comprehend his surroundings let alone figure out a way to approach them—he behaves very mechanically. very doglike in that he obeys cues (ie sit shake roll etc). so over time he is conditioned to only behave in the ways his superiors like (follow this man. kill this woman. mission report. stand over there and don’t speak. or actually no come here us have fun with the good little soldier) bc it gets him the desired reaction: no reaction! to him no reaction = he’s been good and loyal. so bucky is chained. no control whatsoever. and it's learned behavior. when nat happens he's very ill-equipped to deal with her bc she wants him to speak and she doesn't give a shit about his being good and loyal. which is ironic because she is the only time bucky ever WANTS to be good and loyal to another person!! so here he needs to learn different behavioral patterns to earn the 'no reaction' which in nat's case IS reaction. sorry i feel like im explaining this wrong + ive veered off the dog topic. going back to that - the last part of the poem about the dog learning to love is VERY bucky during and after his time as the winter soldier. because he is essentially learning love from nat he thinks love is like. a smile. and he has no idea how to get it so he whatever he tries that works is the thing he relies on - and he does it again again again in the hopes that it will earn him love. he's like when you feed a stray once bc you felt bad and he keeps coming back even though you try to kick him away. so with the black widow he's like. when a dog brings you a dead bird and expects to be praised for it bc he knows no better. and anyway character thesis for the winter soldier is that he's treated more like an animal than a person. he is an attack god foaming at the mouth. someones sharpened his teeth for him but all the biting and snapping is his own. no one gives a shit about his identity or his wellbeing beyond serving his purpose which is to be a good loyal soldier. ergo dog. during recovery bucky becomes soooo pathetic about wanting to be good and loyal. essentially he curls up at the foot of nat/steves bed and waits for one of them to pet him. but also he pretends he doesn't want to be pet so that neither of them can see the extent to which he is desperate for it.
ALSO obviously there is love as biting. like digging into the flesh is an act of affection. where the black widow and the winter soldier think that love is like. hey i killed someone for u! here's the severed head :) circling back to the dog with the bird in its maw. circling back to trying to learn kindness and coming back for the hope of it even after they've been let down (by one another or the red room/hydra or wtv). they get one (1) mildly affectionate gesture and it drives them crazy forever.
anyway in conclusion bucky and nat are specifically dog coded in different ways. nat is more rabid. she is the kind of dog who bites first and back. she bites for fun! (otherwise she risks being bit and she is much too wary to let that happen.) bucky only bites back and that is out of fear. they are both always scared & poised to attack. bucky only knows to wait for scraps. nat digs in the trash for her own. bucky and the winter soldier are also dog coded in different ways. bucky is more of the pathetic one sitting in the foyer while the ws is the one who barks and bites and gives u rabies until one good kick turns him into a curled up whiny puppy. hope this helps!

No you're so right about Nancy. She could be such an interesting, cool character if her flaws were portrayed as such in the show. It's like me as a viewer sees okay there she was unnecessary mean to another character but that character doesn't act like Nancy's actions were hurtful (other than Steve in one scene). I know many hated her after s1 for her treatment of Steve, but I was already annoyed with her in s1. Before Barb went missing she was so fucking awful to Mike her 12 year old brother whose best friend was just went missing. There it showed me the true character of Nancy. You don't need to have a good relationship with your siblings to show some empathy, especially in such a severe case. And then on the night when Barb went missing, the way she treated her supposed best friend, forcing her to drink and putting her in the spotlight to humiliate her, just to show she's cool for Steve's friends. Even Steve was less of an ass to Barb in that scene. After Barb was gone she's now the victim, everyone had to listen to her only and if not they were bullshit. Funny how she only cared when it directly affected her, no ounce of empathy for Mike.
And then, after that, her behavior just got amplified by her trauma. I don't mind her being a cruel, calculated person who only cares about stuff when it affects her if those traits were properly explored in the show. They are just played off as her being a girlboss who doesn't take shit, it's really annoying how so many eat it up. Like yeah give her guns, which are useless, she's so badass, such a feminist.
She doesn't care about stuff, only how it benefits her. Justice for Barb was really about her, not even caring how she could potentially endanger others. Steve was made out as the villain for stopping her even though it was logical and he was in the right. So she dumped him for Jonathan, who always goes along to what she says because of his home situation, and he's afraid to lose her if he says no. I saw one take that says Jancy is superior because Jonathan indulges Nancy's ideas where Steve tries to stop her, like in s4 when he's the first to dismiss her plan to go back in the UD (after being maimed by monsters). They say it shows that Steve doesn't care and isn't listening when I think Nancy needs someone who says stop to her from time to time. Not shipping Stancy because they were awful, but this is such a ridiculous claim.
Yes. All of this. Exactly. You get it anon.
Also I've always hated the idea that Steve doesn't doesn't care about Nancy's feelings/opinions and doesn't listen to her. He's been in the right about all three of the moments (that I can remember off the top of my head).
The first was Nancy coming to him about the monster she saw behind his house (side note: the monster made a sound behind her and the cinematography didn't make it seem like she got a good look at it, so I wouldn't have believed her either), and that's not something anyone would believe at first. Jonathan didn't believe Joyce until Nancy was able to give a similar description of the monster. If Nancy had gone back to Steve with the picture of Barb and Jonathan's testimony, I really do think Steve would have joined the monster hunting squad earlier, if only because he wouldn't want Nancy going alone with Jonathan.
Steve was completely in the right about how Nancy's plan to whistleblow about the lab was stupid. In a show with actual consequences for the main characters, that plotline would have backfired and Nancy would never have been able to get the lab shut down. She's so lucky that she didn't get the Hollands killed for that phone call. Like, Benny Hammond was shot and killed just for knowing El was alive.
And, yeah, in S4 Steve was also in the right about suggesting they not jump into anything. He was the one who was just injured fairly severely, of course he should have reservations about going back when he was just strangled and had chunks of flesh ripped out of his torso.
Nancy's writing just has this weird dichotomy between her being the smart girl while also trying to make her the action girl, and they just don't work. Nancy is supposed to be smart. Let her be a strategist instead of giving her a gun and having her make the most rash and senseless decisions.
I'll be addressing a lot of my issues with Nancy in my ST rewrite series (assuming I ever get around to working on it lmao).

top 5 mbs characters, bc im predictable, and then top 5 persona ...ships? if you don't do a lot of shipping than characters works.
unfortunately i don't actually follow persona all of my knowledge of it is just me voting for whatever you say to in the various polls you reblog (i gotchu homie).
and then just for the sprinkles on top, top 5 favorite birds. they can be specific birds (ie steve the magpie, a local magpie in your area, or big bird) or bird breeds (parrots, a titmouse, lilac breasted roller, etc) up to you. 🎉
or only do one, or two, or all of these! no offense will be taken. im giving OPTIONS
aaaaa thank you!!! for the ask, for the options, and also for supporting my little blorbos in those silly polls 😭
Top 5 MBS Characters:
Kate Wetherall. I. Was. OBSESSED with Kate as a kid. I do prefer her in the books but I love her show incarnation as well!! The weird girl energy, the autism, the ADHD, it's all off the charts. Fav line from book Kate is still "Well of course it's not funny, but what do you want me to do? Cry?" List of sentences that changed my brain chemistry as a child.
Not to be a basic bitch, but Nicholas Benedict. Oh my god, I loved him in the books already -- we love to see a "wise, all-knowing mentor" character with actual personality and limitations -- but the direction the show took his character in was truly inspired. His discussion with Reynie about the white knight in the books is PEAK.
Reynie Muldoon. Understandably, since he's the POV character, he was the one I actually related to most as a kid. I love the "always trying to stay calm" thing he has going on, and how the narrative never punishes him for trying to be kind and genuine and earnest even though so many books and shows nowadays feel the need to equate niceness with naivete.
My funky little Milligan. Yet another character who I loved in the books already and adored seeing more of in the show. I especially love how much more autistic they made this man. "Geez, how 'bout a hello?" "........Hello." / "I'll be back." [vanishes] [reappears] ".......I'm back." King shit. And no matter what incarnation it is, his reunion with Kate will always reduce me to tears. The memory that was so deeply ingrained into his brain that even Curtain couldn't take it from him... was just that memory of his little girl asking him to go to the mill again... AUGH.... 😭
Constance Contraire. Like Kate, I prefer Book!Constance, but I adore the way the show portrayed her as well. First of all, she's hilarious. Second of all, while she's often being irrational, she also can be a voice of reason in some ways, and we love that. Funky little psychic child. And I just ADORE how kindly the book treats her. Even when she's getting on the other characters' nerves in a big way, the book never suggests that she's a detriment to them, that she needs to sit down and shut up, that they would be better off if they ditched her, or any number of other things that a less understanding narrative would be claiming.
Top 5 Persona Ships
Hamugis. Ohhh my god. MFW the overwhelming guilt I feel for having potentially ruined someone's life by sealing Death inside of her as a child slowly transforms into admiration as I meet her again and begin to see her as a strong leader and then love as I begin to discover my own humanity through her. MFW "I don't want you to love someone else... I don't want that, even if that's what would make you happy!!" MFW I touch my robot GF's literal heart and leave an indelible mark on her very being. Also uhh that one post. "I do not understand hookup culture!!! Die in my arms!!!" yeah. Aigis and Kotone for number one love story of all time.
Akimina. Much less canon interaction to go off of with these two but stay with me here. T4T autism4autism. I love Akihiko's earnestness and Minato's bluntness and how they combine to make a relationship that lacks miscommunication while also leaving a lot unsaid because neither is much one for conversation. I like the idea of Akihiko's intense desire to be strong to protect someone playing off of Minato's much more reserved, almost lackadaisical attitude, despite Minato's strength, and I think it would be so interesting to watch them move in opposite directions -- Akihiko learning to cut himself some slack and trust others rather than thinking he has to protect everyone alone, while Minato learns to break out of his shell and actually care about those around him and want to protect them -- while they also, at the same time, are learning almost identical lessons about relying on other people.
Ulamaya. The two girlies of all time. I adore how Ulala's combined jealousy and affection for Maya play off each other and how Ulala is one of the only characters in the game who feels like she's fully seeing Maya as she is -- a human like any other, even if she presents herself as eternally optimistic and strong so that others can lean on her. Their relationship feels so... equal. If that makes sense. Which, as much as I appreciate KatsuMaya, can feel a little lacking in other Maya ships imo, bc it always feels like other characters (ESPECIALLY the masked circle) tend to idolize Maya. And Maya's forgiveness of Ulala's betrayal... what's that one Hozier line... "I'd be the immediate forgiveness in Eurydice." Yeah.
Pegoryu. God I just love how ride-or-die Ryuji is right off the bat. You meet him, have a near-death experience with him, and ten minutes later he's shoveling more food onto your plate insisting that you need to eat more. Even before then, it may be Akira who saves Ryuji from Kamoshida, but it's Ryuji who tackles him away, yells at him to run and save himself, who gives Akira the faith in humanity that the rest of the world had eroded away at that point.
Tie between Saoriham and Kannao. Saori's social link is one of the best parts of Persona 3 straight up, and Kanji and Naoto are just so goddamn cute together.
Honorable mentions: TatsuJun ("I... have nothing to give you in return..."), YukiChie ("Yes, Chie is my prince..."), ShinjiMina ("If the burden of command gets to be too much, just let me know."), KatsuBao ("Idiot... What were you going to do if I pulled the trigger?" "I knew you wouldn't.")
Top 5 Favorite Birds
Orioles!!! I have such fond memories of helping my grandma skewer orange halves and fill jars with grape jelly as a kid to attract the orioles (though I thought they were called oreos for the longest time, lmao)
Robins. We get a ton of them around here and I love seeing them hop around on the sidewalk.
Magpies. Haven't seen one meself but they're such cool birds. If I could have wings I'd want them to be magpie-style.
Crows. Another bird we get a lot of around here, their calls are so Autumncore.
Falcons. They're just cool and I like them. (insert Madge joke here)
