ok so final thoughts on percy jackson and the chalice of the gods. my opinion hasn’t really changed, i enjoyed it and it wasn’t bad but it wasn’t the same you know?

also the timeline feels so funky now. like the original series feels like 2006-2012 ish but they put tiktok into the percy jackson universe and it’s criminal because as far as i know tiktok didn’t get popular till 2019-2020 so it doesn’t line up anymore. something i really enjoyed about the og series is there aren’t really any pop culture references so it doesn’t date its really based on the vibes and also it makes it more timeless so it makes it more reread friendly. like i just feel really weird that tiktok is in the pjo universe.

these aren’t all in order and are most definitely not all the thoughts i had bc i have the memory storage of a flea and once an experience is over it is GONE FROM MY HEAD so this is the list of thoughts i struggled to put together when i got home lmao

overall thoughts:

it felt very gimmicky. the stage production felt gimmicky too but in a fun way, this was gimmicky in a way that kinda gave me a touch of the ick

it did not feel to me very much like a cohesive movie. it felt like browsing ig or tiktok and just seeing a hodgepodge of scenes stuck together. which is a cool idea but idk how well it worked in practice and i also don’t know if it was intentional.

this is not the word i’m looking for but in terms of personality they absolutely whitewashed all of the characters and i really don’t care for that. the visuals and the casting were so immaculate but in terms of personality they just made them all taste like unsweetened corn flakes.

i’m biased and didn’t care for most of the tweaks they made to the songs individually BUT i think they blended with each other more cohesively than they do in the stage production so that was cool. and i am able to understand why they made them more pop-esque than theatre-y it’s just not my personal vibe

it all felt very emma watson’s beauty and the beast. like. not deserving of much hate but also just not as good. it has its time and place but i still just. the changes they made were too much for me. that being said i am gonna be the #1 viewer whenever it’s released to streaming platforms was not kidding when i said this is a new favorite movie

the whole like. tiktok and iphone camera thing was an interesting??? idea. i really liked it for cautionary tale but the rest. i think it was a better idea than the way they executed it.

i miss do this thing!! i wish they had done like a mashup with it and the stupid with love reprise but i wasn’t mad at the reprise so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

angourie is so cute!!!!!!! she has the perfect look for cady. her costumes were kinda yikes but physically she’s mwah chefs kiss perfection

but again i feel like they took so much from her. in the show she’s this overexcited little bubbly (autistic again but still) thing and she’s naive and then it’s revealed she’s conniving and manipulative and has this serious dark streak in her. in the movie it felt like she was just. awkward and then straight to conniving and manipulative. it was interesting but i miss my little jumping bean i wish they had given her some more spice

this movie has turned me into a cadina shipper of THE HIGHEST ORDER i’m already writing a fic for them and i call diiiiibs nobody else do it i write slow /j

i honestly really liked what ifs. i didn’t enjoy it as much as it roars but i think for the screen and for angourie’s voice it was a better fit. and i think it blended better with the new versions of the songs than it roars would have. not mad at it and the staging of it was really cool

cady being the one with a single parent is so interesting to me!! idk why they did that but i think it’s interesting. makes me wonder what happened to her dad but also go mom!!! women in stem!!!

her relationship with the art freaks was so???? weird??? it seemed like damian was the only one who really wanted all of them to be friends. i love this version of janis and damian together but when they were with cady it was all just so BLAND. it didn’t really feel like she and janis were friends at all which is what’s supposed to make the betrayal sting so much

whatever they were aiming for with someone gets hurt they missed hard bc holy cadina batman that shits gay dude BUT THE STAGING WAS SO COOL with everyone like frozen and then they all kick back in all crazy with the music it was great

i can’t tell how i feel about the new middle school incident. i think it takes so much of the pain out of it for janis which is meant to be her main motivator. she was not supposed to be KICKED OUT she was PULLED OUT but i do kind of like that they clearly made it where regina kissed a girl and liked it and freaked out and that was the catalyst for everything

i do not ship this version of cadnis and that to me is unforgivable. they have sooo little chemistry as friends let alone lovers i just can’t stand it. janis doesn’t ever even seem like she wants cady around. it seems so much like they took away what makes janis janis just to turn her into another catalyst for regina and cady’s stories

apex predator was fun!! i honestly like it being janis and damian singing it better than janis and cady i think it works better as a warning and stuff! and also the band in the tree made me laugh so hard. i’m glad cady had them as her tour guides but again that’s all it felt like they were to each other and i miss them being a little posse

REVENGE PARTYYYYYYUH. i thought the staging was really fucking weird?? like all the pastels and shit didn’t really fit i would’ve much preferred it to start like that and then have blood dripping down the walls or something when they’re talking ABOUT PEOPLES HEADS ON SPIKES. but musically it was my favorite of everything!! i’m so happy they put the original verse back i almost screamed out loud in the theater when i heard it!!!!!

i never thought i would say this but i wish they had not canonically made her a lesbian. i will never forgive tina fey for having her end up with that random girl. no shade to the girl, she’s gorgeous and i’m glad we got some on screen, good, healthy queer rep. but in my eyes that is absolutely just a cop out because they know people wanted her to end up with cady or regina. they’re spitting on us and saying “here have your fucking lesbian and enjoy it this is what you get” and expect us to be happy with it. i get so angry every time i think about it and it honestly kind of ruined the whole thing for me. i would rather she have ended up with kevin g again. or like. honestly damian romantically would’ve made more sense in a twisted fucked up way. i just absolutely hate how they handled that.

Because idk if I’m going crazy but like as a gay person this shit seems borderline homophobic? I'm hearing a couple of things in your question, part of which I'm guessing is just being able vent (glad to provide the space!) but the crux of which is commenting on the irony of homophobia in Kinnporshe / BL fandom. And yeah. You're not imagining it.

CW: Homophobia. I'm serious, this is your only warning. Some of this really upset me today and I'm pretty good at compartmentalizing.

I saw this after I got your ask and already spent some time thinking about how to respond, but these comments were in response to Tong coming out at KPWT Manila on Tiktok. I hate looking at them, but I'll embed them in case the tweet ever gets deleted as a reminder that EQUALITY IS NOT REAL IN THIS WORLD.

I won't lie, this hurt my feelings a lot and it's not even about me. I spent half a second being mad before just being sad about this for hours.

I've been into BL for so long, I am tired of this round-about argument we keep having over women, many of whom are queer or questioning, enjoying queer stories where the characters are male. There are culturally-adept literary and queer studies scholars who do research on this.

That being said, a not-small proportion of the fan base is made people who are genuinely homophobic and use BL as their fantasy. Just like watching lesbian porn doesn't make straight men allies, neither does watching BL make straight women allies. I am too exhausted to explain why they do but it's basically a mix of misogyny in not wanting to see other female actors opposite an actor you like but also using queer men as placeholders for your fantasy. Sometimes in fiction, but other times in reality.

I'm with @mirrorofprinces, we need to attack more homophobes for this. 😒😒😒 no more fighting over gay rights, time for KPTS-inspired gay wrongs and gay violence on the gaygenda.

The "delulu" and "it's just fanservice" comments are...indeed kind of homophobic. I respect people who don't want to comment on or interpret their relationship, like you said, or interpret it differently. And it kind of sucks to be like "well some people will be homophobic and you have to share a space with them" in fandom about a queer story, but how do you confront people, some of whom are happy to be openly homophobic, about homophobia that is more nuanced?

But I think one thing that undermines MileApo's authenticity is that BibleBuild do so much fan service despite also claiming not to. Fan service is a Thai BL industry standard with other actor pairs. And as a reality check to myself, I have looked at some of those pairs interacting and yeah. Definitely brotherly or fan service there.

The other part of the problem is young people, especially after the pandemic, genuinely do not seem to know what normal human interaction looks like, including the difference between what's fake and what's real AND what's platonic vs. what's flirty or romantic affection.

As for what my friends/moots think, here's @mellowroxy and @cookiedoughfiesta's thoughts from August about Mile saying he was in love with Apo about the "delulu" comments. (Though let's be real... sometimes the fandom is also... a bit much 🤣🤣🤣)

When I talked to Yams (@mellowroxy) about this earlier, here's what she had to add on to the point:

Me: fans were freaking out when Tom called Zendaya 'my MJ' on his birthday wish to her, and that's way more subtle than what Mile and Apo are doing

Yams: There wouldn’t be this much push back if it was a guy and girl. Most people would be like “oh another on set romance” and call it a day. On the Zendaya and Tom topic, if this was decades back when interracial couples were taboo as fuck then they wouldn’t come out as well.

A conscious reminder equality has always been hard-fought for.

But trust me, this paradox of people who watch BL who are homophobic have not escaped Mile and Apo's notice either.

hi anon!! firstly you're correct, i am in between 05 & 08, but as someone with basic common sense this rubs me the wrong way so much. back when i was a bigger anime fan, especially from 2020 going forword, i noticed alot of younger kids on apps like tiktok or w@ttp@d not only writing things about adults(like rengoku, toji, gojo, levi) but also minors (bakugo, itadori, megumi) and nobody really said anything? as far as tiktok, i used to see alot of younger anime fans talking about getting railed by thesw characters and so on so forth, and again, most werent talking about it, and if they did they would get attacked. and now, im seeing the same thing happening with younger idols, especially enhypen's maknae line and its so wrong.

number one, there is a difference between sexualizing and sex shaming. alot of the time when these kids get called out there respond is "lets not act like teens dont have sex" and this a response that makes no sense. regardless of whether they do or dont, as a minor you shouldnt be talking about it, especially because it puts you at risks for older people in general to pret on you. this doesnt mean i think we shouldn't educate teens on sex and etc, but talking about railing someone you dont know, older then you or not, is both dehumanizing and just disgusting. there is no way or response to justify sexualizing a minor.

as for your question, i'm sorry if my response isn't what you expected because i rarely read for maknae lines. first of all, the only 4th gen group i read for is enha, so i don't know how bad things are in other fandoms ( and i've heard abt nct blr being nothing but a pit of smuts— no offence to the writers— but i agree ) about niki though, i personally haven't encountered any such comments but some of my friends have reported seeing nsfw accounts for enha maknae lines, which is straight up disgusting because they're minors. probably one of the main reasons why i don't read for maknae line because i legit can't trust minors here, except a few that i have known for a while. the thing about minors ( 13-15 y/o as you said ) writing nsfw / borderline nsfw, whether for minors or adults, is so messed up because that's straight up wrong. i don't care if you were exposed to such topics at the age of 10 or whatever, if i spot you, a minor, writing nsfw i'm going to block you.

It got so much worse in middle school because she had a wider vocabulary and worse things to say. We didn’t talk despite me wanting to and reaching out during 6th and the start of the 7th grade.

Vaped in front of me and talked abt such when I asked her to stop (she knew I had asthma too)

Left me for almost 2 years without contact despite me reaching out and trying to talk to her

The summer before 8th grade hit me like a fucking volleyball in the gut!

I corrected her spelling, not knowing for 7 years that she was dyslexic despite us being “best friends”

We got into our one fight and after me apologizing 6 times it wasn’t enough. She and my ex got on call after I BLOCKED HER! Because one of my ex friends got me into a GC with her and Whoopty, Doo, the next thing I can remember fully is me crying and apologizing on my parents floor.

The school year comes in, I’m in a special ed class because of mental health issues, her. She’s fucking there too. Nothing terrible happens until spring. That’s when shit truly hits the fan.

I was venting to a “neutral party” and I said some nasty things about this girl. Now, I admit I spoke out of turn but I regretted it immediately after. The “neutral party” proceeds to ask if she said any of these things. She denies it then makes a petty TikTok on it, one of her friends tagged me in it.

I block the accounts and proceed to apologize to her in a controlled environment because I was really angry at this point.

The next day school was canceled, I got cyber bullied by another account by the same name, over and over. Mainly on all the TikTok’s with my ex and I in them. Especially when I was emo.

I block the account. Around an hour later I see a very inappropriate text on my phone. (THIS PERSON GOT MY PHONE NUMBER WITHOUT IT BEING FUCKING PUBLIC BY THE FUCKING WAY) And after (admittedly feared) petty banter with this stranger, I block them. Another number sent threats and old interests. Then another started saying my dead name. My full dead name. This happened for a while. I blocked the numbers already. This time I tried to sleep it off, the texts didn’t give up.

I went to the police

It was her

She had two other people help her.

The school says that she’s still is in class with me and I have to sit there and just deal with the fear. They made me stand next to her, sit near her. Someone who harassed me so badly that I went to the fucking police.

Middle school sucked. I figured out that she was so fake. She was someone who I thought I’d be friends with for forever.

I am terrified of her every step I take now. She knows so much about me and it starts making me think that she might have had other secrets and attacks on other people.

I can never fucking escape her.

I’m glad I have a best friend now, a real one. And I’m so thankful that he’s helping me heal and realize that I’m capable of friendship.

Jinx is actually very interested in learning bass, if you try to teach her she definitely would be happy about it

You gained so much confidence and slayed that concert, it’s your favorite concert memory

If you come back angry or overwhelmed from band practice (same) she’ll try to comfort you despite not understanding why you’re mad

Vi has most of your songs in her playlist, the few she left out were just songs she thinks weren’t as good, she still likes them all, she just didn’t wanna flood her playlist

She ended up flooding her playlist anyways but like shush

She has a little bookshelf with a bunch of cds on display, one of the shelves has her radio and a few of your cds on it

She also has a wall that has two of your basses you don’t use too much anymore and a shirt and/or a poster hung up in between them

She’ll work out to your music to motivate her, it reminds her that she‘s working to protect you

At concerts she always gets a front row spot or a spot where you can easily see she’s there, it makes you so happy she attends them when she can

Shes the same as Vi, not wanting to flood her playlist with your music but ends up doing so

She has a wall of vinyls hung up with a little record player on a shelf, there’s a whole section of your vinyls if you have any

Cait has a little bit of your merch but not a lot, it’s usually just not her aesthetic

She didn’t want to learn bass at first because she wanted it to be your thing not hers, but if you want to teach her she’ll let you

She ends up being pretty good, but I think piano is her strong suit

At concerts she usually keeps quiet and just gets any seat she thinks will have a good view so she can record it
