[bea's niece! love her! here u go]
//
you’re thrilled that your parents have decided to spend a few days away in ojai at some winery aunt bea recommended, because as much as you love them, unlimited and mostly unsupervised time with your aunts is pretty much the best thing in the world.
they’d planned to take you to a cool, nice dinner at this trendy place asaad had seen on tiktok, which honestly sounded fun. plus, it’s mexican food, which is basically your favorite other than your nani’s lamb biryani. and it had seemed exciting and fun but then you had looked through your entire suitcase and didn’t love any of the tops you packed, and you want to do your makeup but you’re not that good at it yet, and usually your mama helps you, and —
you sniffle and take a calming breath, wipe the tears from under your eyes. it’s okay, you tell yourself. you can ask for help. your aunts love you, and your big brother loves you, and sometimes, of course, he teases you but not about this. never about this. if you felt bad enough you didn’t want to go out, no one would be mad at you.
you take another big breath and then put on one of aunt bea’s old t-shirts she’d accidentally left in london last year and then had laughed and told you to keep it. you walk down the stairs to your aunts’ bedroom. asaad and aunt bea are tending to the herb garden outside, and you’re not surprised to see aunt ava seemingly emptying a quarter of their closet onto their big bed. you linger in the doorway, your heart caught a little in your throat, but then aunt ava looks up and stills, then offers you a smile that always feels warm, and calm, and you don’t ever wonder why aunt bea fell in love with them.
‘what’s up, kiddo?’
you take a second to compose yourself because you really don’t want to cry; you’ve spent enough time around the both of them that you know aunt ava understands how to be patient and let you arrive at what you need to say in your own time. ‘my mama usually helps with my makeup.’
‘ah,’ aunt ava says, already excited. ‘what’s the vibe your feeling? also, what are you wearing? i can’t decide.’ she gestures to the bed with her cane. ‘as you can see.’
it gets you to laugh, a knot in your chest loosening. ‘um, maybe i can borrow one of your crops? my camo cargo pants, i think, and my new cdg converse.’
‘ooh,’ ava says, ‘love. and yes, of course you can borrow anything you want. i’m still mad you’re big enough they fit you, but i’ll forgive you. growing up is better than the alternative.’
you frown at that but aunt ava doesn’t seem bothered, or sad or upset.
‘hmm. morbid. my bad.’
‘you good?’
‘i’m awesome.’ she smiles and gestures for you to actually come into the room. her hair falls in easy waves past her shoulders, longer than when you’d last seen her for eid, and it’s easy to hug her tightly, to settle into her gentle embrace, to smell the detergent that reminds you of aunt bea, and aunt ava’s subtle light perfume, and the lavender lotion you get to use every time you’re here. you know he understands, in a different way than aunt bea but in a way that matters too, that flows like water and makes you feel like you’re lifting your face to the sun, what it feels like to be bigger than what the world expects of you and your body.
your parents are the best; they’d gotten you hormone blockers immediately when you asked, and your mama and auntie had taken you shopping for pretty bras in the fanciest shops in london last month, and your dad practices your drag routines with you after football practice.
but still: people who feel it, people who know — your family, in the deepest way. you pray five times a day, in thanks, usually. blessings, you know, even now.
‘the vibe is, like, i don’t know. subtle but glitter?’
aunt ava squeezes you. ‘incredible. i’m obsessed already. maybe a glitter eyeliner?’
you relax: aunt ava loves you.
‘do you have your makeup here? i have, like, enough fun shit — uh, stuff — to cover us for any look you want, but obviously not foundation or concealer for you. but if you don’t have any, we can send your aunt and brother.’ she laughs. ‘asaad can be your skin tone match.’
'i have some makeup.' you let yourself take a deep breath, because aunt ava is happy; she wants to do makeup with you, and let you borrow clothes, and go out to a cool restaurant. it's not a duty, or because you're family — when your aunts get to help you be yourself, it makes them happy. 'but it's mostly boring.'
'the basics are very important, though.' she smiles. 'well, go grab any of yours that you want to use, then come meet me back down here. you can look through mine and use any you want. and i'm the prettiest person i know, so i can help.'
'number one?'
'way too like beatrice,' she says, 'mean. for no reason! but i'll humor you.' ava bites their bottom lip in contemplation. 'well, i met janelle monae last year. and shangela comes into my bar often.'
'you live a wild life,' you say, and aunt ava laughs. 'so, third?'
'yeah,' she confirms. 'well, fourth, maybe.'
'who's third on the list, then?'
'you, of course.'
it makes you blush, but you turn quickly so aunt ava can't really see. you know she knows, but, like, it's fine. whatever. maybe she's the prettiest person you've ever seen and she's kind and funny and smart and owns her own bar, but she's also your aunt, who you've watched throw up in a bush after she drank too much champagne at brunch one time, and she always falls asleep on aunt bea's shoulder when you go to a movie. there's no reason to be embarrassed, and there's also no reason, you remind yourself, to not want to feel pretty.
you get your setting spray and foundation and concealer and their respective brushes, and then aunt ava shows you through a lot of makeup. you don't think you'll ever want to own this much makeup in your entire life, and it's kind of funny because aunt ava doesn't really wear much most days, but she just — she loves it. she loves sharing with you, and explaining why she got stuff that doesn't really make sense, and eventually you pick out a gold eyeliner to use. aunt ava makes sure not to cover your freckles completely when she helps with your foundation, and then, when you try to do the eyeliner yourself and mess it up, she hands you a makeup wipe without any judgement or impatience.
you finish with some mascara, and you sit and talk and listen to music in the background while aunt ava does her own makeup. she lets you pick out any crop you want, and she decides, after a fair amount of deliberation, on a sundress that you know is aunt bea's favorite on her. gay, you think, and then say aloud because you're sure aunt ava will appreciate it. and she does: she laughs, and aunt bea kisses her after she knocks on the doorframe and then smiles softly when she sees the two of you.
'you both look amazing,' she says. 'asaad has already freshened up, so i just need to change, and then we can go. i'm confident it we leave in ten minutes, we'll make our reservation time.'
'what if we left in twelve minutes?' aunt ava asks.
aunt bea just ignores her and walks to their closet and lightly closes the door, which seems to delight aunt ava. she snorts.
'love her.'
'you guys are weird.'
'just wait until you have a partner or partners. if you're doing it right, which i'm sure you eventually will, because you're the best, it's all just the best kind of weird.'
they're right, you know. you get to be surrounded by all kinds of love and you've always gotten to see it every day. but still, when aunt bea walks out in tailored slacks and loafers and a loose linen button up with intricate stitching, a little mascara on her face, her hair with a few strands of silver in it now, less than your dad's but mostly the same — you can breathe in another way. you have the careful way your mama helps you wash your hair every week when you told her you wanted to grow it out, and how she always takes you with her to get your threading done together; you have your dad's genuine joy whenever he takes you to women's football matches, and the way he cries at shows with queer storylines that end happily; you have your brother and the way he always, always, makes sure his group of friends never misgenders you — ever since you came out, none of them have treated you any differently at all; you have aunt ava, whose identities are as big and open and exuberant as she is.
and you have your aunt beatrice, you smiles sincerely and, of course, notices your eyeliner. she taught you how to shave your legs when you were too nervous to ask your mama, for whatever reason that seemed confusing at the time in your head. she plays tennis with you and she's never mean but she also never lets you win; if you ever beat her one day, it will be on your own merit. you're pretty sure she could literally kill someone twice her size with one hand, but she has never been anything but gentle toward you, your entire life.
she tucks a pair of sunglasses in the V of her shirt and puts on one of her fancy watches with a thick band. she smiles at you. 'ready to go?'
'mhm. i'm hungry.'
she kisses aunt ava's temple and then puts a gentle hand to the small of your back, ushers you out of their room and to the foyer where asaad is waiting on the couch. it's still warm and sunny and gorgeous. aunt bea makes sure the front door is locked and then takes one last look in the mirror. this smile is all for herself, one you've had so many times, one that, on her, lights you up from the inside. she fluffs her hair and then nods, and you get it, unspoken: she must like who she sees looking back at her.
when she sits on your bed later that night, after you've all eaten more than your fair share and aunt ava had done a lot of moaning over some shishito peppers, after she'd driven everyone home and you had all changed into pajamas and watched half of a movie while she and aunt ava had a glass of wine — you curl into her hip and put your head on her lap.
you want to thank her — for being who she is, for being part of your family, for loving you — and everyone she cares for — in this quiet, stoic, unrelentingly gentle way. but you're sleepy, and you don't want to cry. she runs a gentle hand up and down your spine.
'did you have a good day?'
'yeah, aunt bea.' you think of the beach and aunt ava's laugh and your brother's gentle insistence that he hold every door open for the three of you; how good the food was and how you'd seen bella ramsey at a table and asaad had blushed so hard you had laughed. you think of the quiet way aunt bea had gotten aunt ava her medications in the morning at breakfast, a kiss to the top of her head. a long, long life together. a home, with you included, in any way you want. 'i had the best day.'

🩻🤍💉 Brownham Medwhump May 💉🤍🩻
8. Going into shock
“Place your arm through the bars, Mr. Graham, this will only take a minute.” Chilton inspected the needle which contained .50 mg of scopolamine.
Weeks of talk therapy had gotten Chilton nowhere with Will. He had received many requests for book deals for being the sole psychiatrist to the infamous Chesapeake Ripper but there was nothing to write. He scowled at the handsome man sitting in the cramped, metal cage. This should loosen those pretty lips of his.
Will rolled up his navy blue sleeve, and did as Chilton instructed. He agreed to do any form of “treatment” as long as Hannibal Lecter was not allowed anywhere near him. It was the closest thing to a restraining order he could manage within the walls of the BSHCI.
Chilton hobbled over to the cage, and hit his cane against the iron bars, eliciting a loud bang to get Will’s full attention. “Let’s begin.” He wiped Will’s veiny skin with an alcohol swab, and injected the scopolamine, or as it’s colloquially known, Devil’s Breath.
Will was standing knee-deep in the emerald stream, casting his hook out into the raging waters. He turned his head, and waved at Abigail, she smiled in return. “Catch anything?” She said, her voice echoed like they were inside a prison rather than the tranquil forest he was seeing. Will shook his head, Abigail looked down in disappointment. “But you said…” She looked down at the blood on her hands. “You said…” Her eyes turned a glowing white.
“Ỵ̛̖͋͢o̯̱̊͊͢ư̡͕̭̇’ḑ̴̞͛̒ ḳ̯͍̑ͦỉ͔͖̜͌l̙͖̑̾ͣl̙͖̑̾ͣ ḣ̖̻͛̓ỉ͔͖̜͌ḿ̬̏ͤͅ.”
Abigail let out a pained gasp as the antlers impaled her. The large black figure shook her frail, limp body until she lay motionless on top its head. With a crown of flesh, the Ravenstag snorted at Will.
“Will?” Chilton said nervously, leering at the caged man who appeared to be in a catatonic state. Will’s pupils were completely dilated, his skin was pale, almost gray.
Hannibal stood in front of him now, on the other side of the cage he was trapped in. Always trapped, always by Hannibal. “What do you want with me?!” He yelled, scrunching up his face as tears started rolling down his cheeks.
“Brown! Come here!” The frightened hospital administrator called out to the only other man in the room with them. Matthew ran over to Chilton who was now stepping backwards, away from Will Graham. “I’ve never seen this type of reaction to scopolamine before. What’s wrong with him?!” Chilton leapt behind Brown to shield himself from his own patient. “He looks possessed.”
Will was looking in Matthew’s direction but was seeing through him, his eyes fixed in an eerie thousand-yard stare. Will’s skin was clammy, his breathing was rapid and shallow. Matthew gently checked his pulse, Will didn’t seem to notice he was being touched. “He’s exhibiting symptoms of shock.”
Chilton cursed under his breath, another wasted session with Graham. “Then we have no choice but to wait it out. Brown, stay here and watch the inmate, I have other work that needs my attention.”
“But he could be like this for hours, shouldn’t we bring him to see a doctor?” Matthew replied, not taking his green eyes off Will.
Chilton rolled his eyes, and groaned, “I am a doctor, just stay here until he’s conscious again, understood?” Matthew nodded. Chilton turned around, and with each step, the cane hit the tiled floor, sending echoes through the spacious room.
Will was seeing melting clocks, each ticking around him, blasting his ears with their incessant noise.
“ꀸꋪꍏꅏ ꂵꍟ ꍏ ꉓ꒒ꂦꉓꀘ, ꅏꀤ꒒꒒.” The Stag Man spoke without moving his mouth. Will crouched on the floor, bringing his knees to his chest. Matthew slowly sat beside the cage, silently watching Will go through a waking nightmare but unable to help him.
The sun was starting to set as a beautiful golden light colored the room in amber hues. The tiny dust particles danced in the sunbeams like little fairies. Will had been rocking back and forth for half an hour, mumbling to himself about clocks and teacups. If Chilton was here he probably would have used it as some wild theory about The Ripper being an avid tea drinker but Matthew could tell that it was all symbolic. Will was stuck in a loop of themes and motifs that haunted him.
Matthew recalled the first night Will spent in his cell, he could hear him screaming in his sleep about a giant, black stag with feathers instead of fur. The ramblings of a madman, according to the head psychiatrist. Matthew tilted his head, thinking about Will’s words. Really trying to understand them instead of twisting them to suit his own agenda. The stag represented another male in his life. That was something Matthew could easily deduce.
Darkness creeped in as the last bit of sunlight disappeared beyond the horizon. Will stopped rocking and stared across the room. The full moon peeked through the window, and the shadows from the empty cages spread along the floor like long tendrils. The small hairs on the back of Matthew’s neck stood up. It was as if they were both trapped in a spider’s web.
“SEE? SEE? SEE?” Will frantically shouted, reaching his hand through the bars and pointing right behind Matthew. He looked so convinced there was someone else there that Matthew glanced behind his shoulder, and for a split second he could see him — A tall, black, inhuman creature with antlers and glowing white eyes. Matthew blinked and he was gone.
Will slumped back in his chair, and let out a long, deep breath, as if something was finally released from his body.
“Where am I?” Will was shaking, his eyes darted around the room until they landed on Matthew.
“At the Baltimore State Hospital for the Criminally Insane.” Matthew answered, unlocking the door to the small cage.
Will cautiously stepped out like an injured animal that was getting released back into the wild, unable to fully leap into the arms of freedom. He rubbed his temples, “Did you see it too?”
Matthew thought for a moment about which answer would give Will a greater peace of mind. The older man looked into Matthew’s eyes in quiet desperation, waiting with bated breath for the young orderly’s reply.
“Folie à deux,” Matthew said, twisting his mouth into a feline smile at the trembling inmate. Will didn’t say anything. He put both arms behind his back, and let Matthew handcuff him. Neither of them said a word as Matthew escorted Will through the empty corridors back to his cell.
“Don’t tell Chilton.” Will whispered, grabbing Matthew’s wrist as the young man was about to walk away. “Hannibal… His name is Hannibal Lecter.”
Matthew’s eyes widened, and he felt like his heart was being squeezed by an invisible chain. Him.
Will released his grasp on the orderly, and sunk back into the darkness of his cell. Finally, someone believed him.

“i know your sick but… maybe we can cuddle? watch a movie?” said by Donnacha to Henry?
Word Count: 2,094
Dialogue Prompt List
CW: emeto (the actual emeto part is very briefly mentioned, I'm sorry), stomach noises, belly rubs, food, platonic cuddling, stressed caretaker.
___
Henry shoved back the top half of the duvet, since it was obscuring his view of who was standing in his room. He also didn’t have his glasses on. But he was fairly sure that only one of his flatmates would burst in while his room smelled faintly of vomit.
“Oh, shit,” someone whispered. “Were you sleeping?”
“Donnacha?” The hard k scraped at the back of Henry’s throat and his lungs pinched. It felt like his oesophagus had been wrung out and twisted to within an inch of its existence.
“Yeah. You okay?”
Henry’s hand flailed lazily, in search of his glasses. He lifted his head a little bit so he could put them on, and the effort of it all left him feeling like a puddle of jelly. Donnacha stood, backlit by the hallway light, in tracksuit bottoms and a hoodie.
“I’m still sick,” Henry croaked as a warning. He eyed Donnacha with no small amount of envy. “I don’t have a farm boy’s immune system like someone I know.”
“I know you’re sick, but… do you want to cuddle?” Donnacha folded his arms, unfolded them again, and shoved them in the pockets of his tracksuit, like he didn’t know what to do with them. “Maybe we could watch one of your Gibbly-Jibbly movies?”
Henry squinted up at him from his pillow. He nudged his glasses into place with his forefinger. “My whatty-what movies?”
Donnacha shrugged. “You’re always telling me I’ve gotten the name wrong, so I’ve decided to just say both from now on.”
“Right.” Henry stifled a yawn. It suddenly occurred to him that he was topless, but somehow, that didn’t really matter. “It’s Ghibli, by the way.”
“See?” Donnacha flicked one hand like he was batting away a fly. “Even when you’re sick, you’re correcting me.”
“Oh, relax,” Henry grumbled, sitting upright. He rolled his eyes as Donnacha started retreating towards the hall. “Donnacha, come back.”
Donnacha eyed him sidelong from the doorway. “Why? You’re just gonna keep bullying me.”
“I’m not bullying you. Stop complaining,” Henry grumbled, easing himself up onto his side and trying not to audibly groan as his joints protested. “I’m the sick one.”
“You’re getting up?”
Attempting to. “Mmm.”
Donnacha followed Henry’s gaze towards the floor, where his cane had tipped over at some point since he’d last used it. Donnacha hurried to pick it up and hand it to him, and then instantly looked embarrassed.
“Sorry,” he said. “It’s not that I thought you couldn’t do it yourself, I was just –”
“Donnacha, it’s fine. Thank you,” Henry frowned, leaning on the cane while still seated. He nodded towards his cluttered desk chair as his body adjusted to being upright. “Can you grab a t-shirt and a jumper for me?”
“Yeah?” Donnacha replied tentatively.
He scratched the side of his head as he turned towards the pile of clothing that Henry had never bothered to fold and put away. One of the upsides about being sick in bed is that the rest of the furniture could easily be used as wardrobe space while it wasn’t in use.
“Um –”
Henry cracked a private half-smile at Donnacha’s reluctance. After spending so many years as Autumn’s boyfriend, he was probably nervous about making the wrong choice when it came to clothes.
“Anything’s fine,” Henry said.
Donnacha tossed him a grey t-shirt and a green cable knit jumper. Henry let his cane rest against the bedside locker and pulled the t-shirt on over his head.
A loud, swirling rumble came from the pit of his stomach while his face was still entangled in the fabric. Henry froze for a second, feeling it churn around nothing but air and whatever bile hadn’t already made it up his throat. He’d been curled up in bed for so long, it must have been a shock for his organs and muscles when he suddenly stretched both arms upwards.
He sheepishly pulled the t-shirt down over his pale belly. He half-glanced over at Donnacha, who didn’t react beyond a tight smile.
Henry managed to get his jumper on without agitating his stomach again.
He took a few deep breaths before committing to a standing motion. He hobbled forward on his cane and Donnacha stepped backwards, palms outstretched by his sides as though waiting for Henry to pitch forward and need catching.
Henry thought about protesting that he was okay, but there was something nice about having someone fuss about him. Besides, he was dizzy, and a little weak after losing so much of his stomach lining and lying in bed for so long.
“Has Lu been home?” he grunted as they reached the hallway.
“Nope.” Donnacha’s hand brushed Henry’s elbow. “She’s been hiding out since I caught the bug, and she hasn’t been back since.”
“Hiding out where? With whom?”
“No idea. She have a girlfriend right now?”
“Lucy doesn’t have girlfriends.” Henry made the mistake of glancing down the hallway and catching glimpse of himself in the bathroom mirror. The door was wide open. He looked absolutely ashen, and his beige-coloured cotton top made him look like a ghost that could have met his end over a century ago.
“What, never?” Donnacha asked.
“Unless she does and… never tells me.”
“Well, that’s not likely,” Donnacha assured him.
Insecurity still prodded at him, though. He and Lucy had been best friends since they were kids, and he liked to think of himself as unjudgmental in most – okay, some… okay, a few – areas. She wouldn’t have any reason to hide anything from him, at least not one that he could immediately think of.
Henry was panting slightly, fighting dizziness, by the time he reached the sofa. The cushions were just springy enough for his weight to sink into, letting him know he wouldn’t be rising again quickly anytime soon. It wasn’t just the stiffness in his joints; his body felt sapped. “Would you mind getting me a glass of water?”
“Yeah, no bother.” Donnacha made an incredulous face, as though he was appalled that Henry had asked politely instead of snapping his fingers and making a demand. He talked over his shoulder as he went towards the kitchen. “I know it’s late, but do you want something to eat as well? I didn’t see you come out of your room all day, so you must be starving.”
Remembering that hollow, acidic growl in his stomach, Henry placed a contemplative hand on in as he laid back against the sofa cushions. He felt horribly deflated after puking his insides out for two days, and he hadn’t had any waves of nausea in a few hours now.
“Maybe,” he mumbled.
“Hmm?” Donnacha called out from the kitchen.
“I said ‘maybe’.”
With no more follow-up questions to answer, Henry focused on stilling the swirling, pounding sensation in his head. He heard Donnacha opening and closing a few cupboards, humming something indistinguishable on the other side of the partition. The kettle bubbled and seemed to hum along with him.
Henry shook his head gently at himself. He wasn't one to romanticise the mundane, so he was going to blame this on the sickness and dehydration.
Donnacha came back through to him, carrying a glass in one hand and a mug in the other.
He started to put both down on the coffee table, but Henry sat forward and reached for the glass of water. He started drinking and couldn’t stop, even when it felt like his stomach was starting to knot up under the stress of so much liquid at once. He smacked his lips – which somehow felt even drier than before – as he finished, and looked up at Donnacha.
Donnacha raised his eyebrows.
“Um,” Henry smiled. “Could you –?”
“Yes, my lord.”
“Thank you.”
As Donnacha went to refill the glass, Henry sat a little further forward to pick up the mug. He took it by the handle and supported the opposite side with a fingertip against the rim. The chicken scent was laced with preservatives, but it still made Henry’s cheeks water so hard they stung.
Donnacha placed the water on the table and eyed the mug in Henry’s hand. “Wish I could offer you something more interesting than a hot cup.”
“Yes,” Henry muttered. “I was truly hoping you were whipping up some foie gras back there.”
“Well, obviously, since the first thing they teach you in flight school is how to make foie gras.”
“Exactly.”
As Henry blew on the thin, steamy soup, Donnacha crouched on the living room floor and browsed Henry’s DVD collection for titles he hadn’t seen yet. They were all lined up – alphabetically by title, of course – in the lower half of the TV stand.
“How’s it going, by the way?” Henry asked softly. He knew he was bad at keeping track of what Donnacha had going on, and the past few days had meant he was even more out of the loop. “School.”
“It’s grand. Stressful, but exciting.” Donnacha paused. “Hey, is this one any good?”
Henry rocked his mug slightly, trying to divert a floating, formerly freeze-dried pea away from where he planned on taking his next sip. His glasses had started to steam up. “Yes.”
“You didn’t even look.”
“They’re all good, Donnacha. Otherwise, they wouldn’t be in my collection.”
“I’ll stick it on, so.”
Once the DVD was set up, Donnacha plopped himself to Henry’s left, legs outstretched and crossed at the ankles. He lifted an arm so that Henry could lean into him, and then wrapped the arm around Henry’s shoulders.
As he allowed himself to sink into the embrace, Henry found himself wishing he had a blanket to drape over himself; Donnacha’s warmth against his left side was so nice that his right side left cold by comparison. He didn’t want to make Donnacha get up again, so he just hoped the soup would warm him all the way up.
His appetite surfaced as he began to sip more eagerly. Some of the wobbly weakness in his arms and legs, plus the dizzying weight in his head, faded a little. His stomach began to shift a little as it filled up, but only to the point where Henry barely noticed it.
“Finished with that?” Donnacha asked.
Henry looked down at his mug, which was empty now, besides a few freeze-dried veggies that he’d strategically dodged. It barely held any warmth anymore, either. “Yeah.”
Donnacha put a hand out to take the mug. Henry caught glimpse of the display on Donnacha’s smart watch, and it made him frown.
“Is it not Saturday?”
Donnacha tilted his head as he leaned forward to prop the mug on the coffee table. “Yeah, it is.”
“Do you not have training in the morning?”
Donnacha’s expression became clouded as he settled back against the cushions. “Yeah, I do.”
“It’s –” Henry pointed towards the TV. “This film’s not going to be over until –”
“It’s grand, Hen.” Donnacha rubbed the side of Henry’s arm. “Do you want anything else?”
“No, I’m good.”
Donnacha smiled. “Cool.”
Henry swallowed against a nagging sensation in the pit of his belly. Concern, maybe; or perhaps he just needed to burp. “Any particular reason you’re so clingy tonight? I’m not complaining, I just…”
Donnacha shrugged. He brushed the tip of his nose against Henry’s hair. “Sometimes it’s just nice to hold someone.”
“It is…” Henry agreed in earnest, but still couldn’t help wondering if something was wrong.
Before he could even decide whether or not to keep questioning his friend, Henry’s stomach gurgled. He almost reacted as he would have if he’d been curled up alongside a date he’d snagged on an app – by coughing and trying to cover up the sound. But since even a fake cough would probably destroy his tender throat and oesophagus, he just sat still in his embarrassment.
Donnacha glanced away from the TV for all of 0.01 of a second, as though scouting out the exact position of Henry’s stomach so he could plant his hand on top of it. He absently rubbed it, back and forth, as he went back to watching the movie.
“The soup settling in okay?”
“Mmm,” Henry grunted. “Sorry.”
“Don’t be.”
As the movie continued, Henry’s stomach started to ache. Horribly. Not to the same extent as it had during the very worst of the bug, but certainly as badly as it had at the very beginning.
Donnacha was still alternating between rubbing it gently, then letting his hand come to a stop for a while as though he’d temporarily forgotten what he had been doing, before starting up again. Henry wasn’t entirely sure that the pressure wasn’t making him feel worse, but did he really have the heart to tell him to stop?
Guilt mingled with the squelching mess of soup and acid in his belly.
He couldn’t even focus on the movie, or make himself care about whether or not Donnacha was enjoying it. Usually, he couldn’t help stealing glances at Donnacha’s expressions, but right now, it was taking everything just to sit still; and he was failing at that, too.
“Are you okay?” Donnacha asked.
Henry shifted his weight for the dozenth time in the past ten minutes.
“I’m just –” A dense weight pressed on Henry’s stomach, and he could now say for certain that it had nothing to do with Donnacha’s hand. He hoisted himself forward, hands on his knees to keep himself from slumping against the coffee table. “I-I might –”
His stomach lurched to shut him up. Shoulders trembling, Henry put out a hand to grab Donnacha’s. Relief washed over him when Donnacha jumped to his feet to help him up.
He had belched chicken hot cup down the front of his clothes before he’d even made it to the hallway.

“You think they’re okay?” You itched the front of your throat anxiously. “It’s been days and we haven’t heard from them.”
“Stop that,” Shigaraki snapped and paused the round of MarioKart, eyeing the blood welling up under your skin. “You always get on my ass about it, you don’t get to do it either.”
“Picked it up from you, dick,” you grumbled under your breath, but dropped your hand anyways. “But do you? Think they’re okay?”
“Whatever. They’re fine. Overhaul has probably limited their communication since we’re technically wanted criminals. Can we get back to the game now?” He huffed, scowling.
“I thought you didn’t like MarioKart and were only playing because I wanted to. I’d think you would be happy to take a break.” You shrugged.
“We’re not only playing it because you wanted to—” Shigaraki narrowed his eyes when you grinned at his arguing. “—and anyways, it’s better than listening to you yap about. I think Dabi’s even gotten tired of listening to your anxious rambling, which is probably why he hasn’t been putting up a fuss over us playing games.”
“Actually, I think that’s because I threatened to chop his dick off,” you snickered.
“You… threatened to chop his dick off,” Shigaraki deadpanned. “Why on earth did you do that.”
“I called you by Tomura in front of him and he got all pissy. I explained you’re my best friend and gave me permission to call you Tomura, and told him no dick measuring contests—otherwise he’d find he has no dick to measure.”
“And I thought you were less insane than the rest of them, but it’s pretty fucking crazy to threaten a man’s dick. Especially Dabi’s. ”
You barked out a laugh. “Insane or not, pretty boy wouldn’t actually do anything to hurt me. One time he accidentally burnt me and apologised for days afterwards. And he never apologises.”
“Tch.” He shook his head. “If you’re not gonna play, go bother someone else. I’m getting tired of MarioKart anyways.”
“Yeah, yeah, grumpypants.” You grabbed your cane and heaved yourself off the floor, sticking your tongue out at him. You made your way down the hall and into your room, waving to Dabi.
He looked up from his spot on the bed as you walked in, raising his eyebrows. “He kick you out?”
“Ehh, pretty much.” You stopped to scratch Boo behind the ears and give Nugget a quick pet, then plopped down next to him with a groan. “That, and I think his pride can only take so many beatings. Apparently, he’s absolute dogshit at MarioKart. Fighting games and MMOs are more his style.”
He snorted, “Why doesn’t that surprise me. He seems like the type of person to enjoy murdery games over anything else.”
“Oh, definitely.” You grinned. “I think it’s worth noting I’m awful at MarioKart. So the fact I was winning means he was really awful. ”
“I know, doll. I beat you twenty times before you gave up.”
“Don’t remind me of that!” You whined, throwing your hands into the air. “I’ve never had my ass kicked so terribly.”
“You forget I played a lot of games with Natsu. I got real damn good at shit like that.” Dabi shrugged, mischief in his eyes.
“Still sucked.” You pouted, crossing your arms. “You could’ve gone easy on me after the first ten times! You didn’t have to keep kicking my ass!”
“Ya think I’d go easy on you, doll? We both know I’ve never been the one to go easy.” A smirk pulled at his staples. “Especially on you.”
“Oh, shut it,” you grumbled, swatting at him. “You’re so annoying.”
“And yet you still put up with me.”
“I literally couldn’t get rid of you if I tried. Not that I want to, anyways. You’re stuck with me just as much as I’m stuck with you, pretty boy.” You looked away from him when Shigaraki poked his head through the door. “What’s up, Shig?”
“Toga called. Time to go.”
You grinned, a gleam in your eyes. “Oh hell yeah.”
“Spinner, you are horrible at driving!” You yelped, hanging onto Compress’s free arm for dear life as Dabi pushed the truck doors open.
“In shogi, the point is to get the king, right?” Shigaraki spoke from atop the truck, his fingers interlocked.
“How the fuck have you not fallen off, dude?!” Your voice was sharp with anxiety.
“It’s not that simple,” Dabi drawled in response as he looked up at your leader.
“Yeah, they’re here, just like you said! To get from the Hassaikai to the nearest villain hospital, it’s fastest to use this highway. Thanks for letting us know! Toga, you’re so efficient. I’m much obliged,” Compress hummed gratefully.
“Good job Toga! Put her on speaker, Compress!” You leaned close to Compress’s phone, speaking loudly. He snorted and gently pushed you away, but put Toga on speaker nonetheless.
“Jin-kun’s the one who told me to call—”
“—fight!”
“—I was too busy watching Izuku!”
“Run away!”
“In fact, I’m sorry to make you get your hands dirty.”
“I only have one hand, though,” Compress mused playfully. Toga’s laugh chimed through the phone.
“We couldn’t get the girl who’s the crux of their plan, but we think the finished products are where you are. We watched the police’s movements for a while, so there’s a high probability. Even if they aren’t there…”
“—kill them—”
“...we want to say hi, right?”
Compress hummed as Toga hung up. “Sounds like Twice is having a rough go of it.”
“Yeah... they did good, though. I’m proud of both of them,” you said with a smile.
“Hey, lizard! Stop weaving!” Dabi snapped over his shoulder. “I get motion sick!”
“Don’t call me “lizard”! I’m Spinner!”
“What are you getting mad for? Shut up!” Dabi huffed, then gave you a look as you giggled. “Stop your laughing. It’s not funny.”
“You get motion sick?” You grinned at him, ignoring the glare you got in response.
“Is attacking the police really following the will of Stain, who wanted a true hero society? I’m not sure about that!”
“It’s a necessary sacrifice, Spinner. I’m counting on you to drive,” Shigaraki sighed, moving into a crouching position.
“And don’t fling us out of the back, please!” You added. “I don’t want to die just yet!”
Dabi rolled his eyes, then ignited his palm. “Now…” He grinned, and sent out a tunnel of flames. His grin faded when something stopped the fire from hitting the police cars. “What’s with him?”
“A hero! Of course there’d be one. Ugh!” Shigaraki’s voice was almost a whine. You had to suppress a teasing remark at that. “Spinner, slow down!” As the truck slowed enough to get closer to the police car, Shigaraki jumped down—then was hit in the face with a bunch of sand. The hero began to ramble on about Shigaraki's decay.
“He’s famous, huh?” Dabi sighed, putting his hands in his pockets. You patted him on the shoulder.
“Don’t worry, pretty boy. You’re just as scary as him.”
“Shigaraki is the misdirection; in other words, the decoy. Let’s go.” Compress flicked out a marble, which decompressed into a large piece of rubble. “Police car gently levitating! No trickery or devices involved.”
You snickered, then clambered onto Dabi’s back before he and Compress jumped out of the back of the truck. You hopped off and watched Dabi approach the hero that had pulled the policeman out of the transport vehicle Shigaraki caused to crash. He ignited his forearms as he loomed over the hero, a menacing smile on his face.
“That’s right. Heroes end up prioritising lives.”
“Recently, burnt corpses have been turning up one after another in various places.” The hero lowered the policeman onto the ground.
“Oh, are people talking about me? That makes me happy,” Dabi said, voice mocking.
“Told you, pretty boy! Just as scary!” You called. Compress nudged you, shaking his head in amusement. Your playfulness turned into a scowl when you heard what the hero said next, your grip on your cane tightening.
“Have you ever thought about the feelings of those they left behind?!”
You have no idea, hero. You have no idea.
While Compress and Dabi dealt with the hero, you walked over to Shigaraki, who was standing by Overhaul’s gurney. He nodded in acknowledgement, then turned his attention back to the former yakuza.
“Who’s going to be the next leader again?” Shigaraki tilted his head, hands in his pockets.
“Did you come to kill me?” Overhaul ignored his question. His voice was resigned, devoid of emotion.
“No. I thought of what you’d hate the most. I hate you.” Shigaraki took Father off his face as Compress approached. “You’re too full of yourself.”
“Me too.” Compress removed his mask, smirking. He used a marble to take one of Overhaul’s arms.
“Oh, nice.” You grinned, nudging Compress. “I didn’t think of that.”
“There are two boxes here. Which is the finished product?” Shigaraki opened the box as he spoke. “Oh, well.”
Overhaul’s eyes widened in panic as his face twisted up in a sour expression. “Give it back.”
“You know what, Overhaul? A person who erases people’s Quirks shouldn’t depend on their own Quirk, right?” Shigaraki leaned down and gripped Overhaul’s remaining arm. You watched as the Decay began to spread upwards, your eyes lighting up in twisted satisfaction. “If I don’t cut it off, your whole body will turn to dust.” Shigaraki lifted up a knife, then paused and turned to you, raising his eyebrows in an unspoken question.
Your grin grew wider, and you took the knife. “Don’t mind if I do.” You swung the knife down, severing his forearm from his elbow.
“All right, now you’re a powerless, helpless, Quirkless man,” Shigaraki leered, a manic look on his face. “And the fruits of all that effort you spent are now mine! Now you won’t even have a finger to put in your mouth as you look on enviously at the rest of us! Let’s do our best!”
You giggled as hives spread across Overhaul’s skin, “What a pity! You shouldn’t have killed our friend and taken Compress’s arm.”
Spinner honked the horn of the truck. “Pursuers are coming! Hurry up and get in!” He shouted out the window.
Shigaraki straightened, placed Father back onto his face, and walked back to Spinner. “Next, it’s our turn.”
You trailed after him with a pleased hum. “Revenge feels nice.” Your joy and satisfaction grew exponentially as Overhaul screamed behind you. “It feels real fuckin’ nice.”

Who Makes You See Color (A CaptainCroc Soulmates AU Fic): Chapter 9
Hey, honeys, it’s Martian again! *hands you a cloche* *reveals what’s inside* *it’s Chapter 9 of my CaptainCroc fic!* It might look like I'm going for long-game angst, but hang in there. I think technically this chapter is on the shorter side, comparatively, but it’s still plenty to read. Tags: @wastingstarsss Enjoy!
Gold took his time getting dressed. He had an odd feeling of anticipation in his stomach, one that reminded him of the last few times Rumplestiltskin had gone to meet Killian on the Jolly Roger.
He had a tie he’d never liked, with a pattern of ship’s wheels on it. He’d considered getting rid of it many times, but had never gotten around to it. Gold doubted it would mean anything to…what was Killian’s name in this land? (Whatever it was, he wouldn’t care; probably wouldn’t even notice.)
The point was, Gold cared. And because he had kept up his end of the deal, nobody, not even Regina, had ever known that he and Killian were soulmates, so he wasn’t putting either of them at risk by wearing it. He wasn’t even hinting that he was awake.
Despite his slow picking out of his clothes, and the extra attention he paid to his hair, he still arrived at his shop precisely on time. He unlocked it and turned the sign in the door to “Open.”
Killian, on the other hand, was late. Forty-five minutes after business hours began, he finally appeared, his clothes wrinkled and his eyes bloodshot. He didn’t look well.
“Couldn’t sleep?” Gold asked dryly.
“Something like that,” Killian answered.
Oh, right. “I don’t think you ever told me your name,” Gold said.
Killian’s immediate response was peculiar. His forehead creased, and he glanced down at the floor. “I don’t know my real name,” he said sullenly. Gold handed him a broom, and he started sweeping slowly. “I’ve been on the streets since I was a child, and I picked up a fake name to keep myself off the official radar. Over time, I guess I sort of...forgot my real name.”
“I have to call you something. Just give me the name you have now.”
“Roger.”
He was named after his ship? Oh, that was just—that was ludicrous. Gold shook his head, sitting down behind the counter. “When you’ve finished sweeping the floor, go ahead and dust the lamps. Be careful with them, they’re breakable.”
The day passed without any arguments. It wasn’t like it should’ve been; Roger didn’t look at Gold with a mixture of confusion and hopefulness, like Killian had looked at Rumple, and Gold couldn’t think of anything to say. At least, he supposed, they weren’t fighting. That left room for being friends.
At eight o’clock, Gold closed his record book. “Roger, you can go home now,” he said, picking up his cane from the floor. “Try to be on time tomorrow.”
“Why are you being nice to me?” Roger asked, setting down his dusting cloth. “You’re a holy terror to everyone else, but this deal doesn’t seem so bad. What’s the catch?”
Gold held his breath. “You owe me now,” he said. “I picked you up out of the gutter and I gave you a paying job. Something to do other than fail at stealing and sit in a jail cell all day. I like having that kind of influence over people.”
Roger nodded. “That, I believe. Goodnight, Gold.”
It was true, Rumple thought as he walked home. Having influence, having control, was what he craved. But not when it came to Killian. He wanted Killian to wake up and remember who he was. He desired the match of wits, the synchronicity of their hearts, and he wasn’t sure he could live without it.
Who was he kidding—he didn’t just respect Killian, he loved him. He was tired of pretending that he didn’t.
Swan had better hurry up and break that curse soon.

“Only a doctor can label you as disabled.” I’m aware of that being a statement so many people tell me.
My doctor didn’t do anything for me besides make the pain worse. I need a cane with me constantly to help me walk, I struggle with standing, walking, doing anything that requires my leg. This is mainly my right leg, from my hip all the way down.
It’s affecting my left leg as well. I consider myself physically disabled. As I cannot do anything for myself without immense struggles when the flare ups are bad.
There’s times where I do not need the cane to walk, there are times I can’t even move.
My main issue is that my doctor will never consider me disabled because I can still move even if I need help. It “isn’t bad enough” even when I’m doubled over and screaming in pain so I won’t be disabled by a medical professional. Not until I either can’t use my legs at all or until I get a better doctor.
That also doesn’t include my mental disabilities. Things that also cause me issues in my daily life like my leg does.
This is the same doctor that took one look at me and left me waiting in pain for six hours before coming in the room without looking at my tests and saying “it’s bursitis” and then pushing my hip, while I’m already in immense pain, while I have to bite my tongue from screaming. The same doctor who told me I’ll just be taking away a disability aid because I “don’t need it.” I do. Otherwise I’d be starving in bed a majority of my days.
I don’t trust doctors. Not with how they treat me. I’m not taken seriously for how I look, my chronic pain is treated like a joke. I don’t trust doctors. This isn’t the first time I’ve been treated poorly. This also doesn’t account for the sexual assault I’ve gotten from doctors, verbal harassment, things like that. I don’t trust doctors at all for how often I’m mistreated.

Hi, can u do one Kaz Brekker X Reader where he likes the reader's skin, but he is afraid to touch she because of his traumas and hers traumas too, because he noticed how she reacts to other people's touch, but one day he just touches her because he wanted to feel her.
Sorry if got confused, english is not my first language.
thank you for a request, I hope you'll be satisfied with what I came up with! enjoy xx
kaz brekker x fem!reader
He was confused. He didn’t know why he was feeling the way he was. His fingers were itchy, palms getting sweaty every time he saw you. Especially when you showed some skin.
He had this weird urge to touch your hand, to kiss the place where he could feel your heart race, to feel your soft skin pressed to him. He didn’t want to do that in a sexual way, he just wanted to feel every scar and every stretch mark you had. But he knew better than that.
With his phobia and your reaction triggered by even the slightest touch, he knew he shouldn’t have had even a thought in his stupid mind. He was distracted when you were wearing a dress, his eyes were looking you up and down every occasion he had, thinking no one had ever noticed. How of a fool he’d been that whole time.
“I think you should ask her out,” Inej had once said, making him snap out of his thinking. “She’s not that bad, you know.”
“Inej, I appreciate your tries to warm up my heart, but I would have to have one first.” He’d replied, looking down at the money on his desk. He shouldn’t have been surprised, of course the Wraith had seen, she always did.
“What would bad happen if you opened up for someone?” she’d sat on the chair on the opposite of his, her hair braided as always, a little smirk playing on her lips. “You’ve known each other since forever. Also, I think only with her you show some human emotions.”
“I have no idea what you’re talking about,” he’d frowned, money in his gloved hands. “Now get out, I need to plan a job.” Inej had only sighed at his words, what a fool he was.
After that conversation, Kaz had been thinking how to avoid you. If you were in the club, he was somewhere in Ketterdam, walking around despite his leg pain. With work it was harder, you all had to work together in order to win over the city, exactly how you and Kaz had planned.
“I think we should kill Pekka Rollins first,” you had said, making an eye contact with Kaz. It was almost two years ago, your hair was shorter, your eyes glowed with sparkles he hadn’t seen ever since. “He’s been a pain in the ass, since I’ve been working in the White Rose.”
“Did he hurt you?” he’d asked, a foolish move, showing how he cared about you. “Touched you in the way he shouldn’t?”
“Kaz, every person who goes there does that.”
He’d sighed, his palms clenching harder on the cane. “I should’ve bought you out the first time I saw you there.”
“Kaz,” you said, touching his hand gently, he hadn’t flinched nor moved. “You bought Inej and both of us know she’s a better help to you than me.”
“You’re right.”
“Of course, I am, darling,” you’d squeezed his palm, letting go after a few seconds. “Now, I shall go. Boss will be angry if I don’t come back on time.”
“Be careful.” He’d pleaded, his voice barely detectable.
“Always am.”
He hadn’t got any idea why you were making him soft, you two had met after he came to Ketterdam. He remembered how beautiful you’d seemed that day, your hair loose, arms high above your head, and you were laughing. That sound he hadn’t forgotten. The pure laughter that had gotten out of you was a thing he still repeated in his head, years after he heard that last time. You never laughed again. Never got this spark in your eyes. Your smile never reached them as well.
“Kaz?” you knocked on the door leading to his room. “I need to talk to you.”
“Come in,” he replied, looking up at you. You had dark circles under your eyes, they were tired. You barely walked. “What is it?”
You took out a pouch, Kaz heard coins jingling in it. “I need you to buy me out.”
Shock made its way to Kaz’s face, you had never asked this question before. Even though he was prepared, he had a wad of money in his safe, just in case. He wanted to ask you so many questions but when you looked at him, pressing your hand to your stomach, rage started burning in him. “What did they do to you?”
“Kaz, please, I have money. Just do it.” You tried so hard to keep tears in your eyes, to not show anything.
“I don’t want your money,” he snapped, regretting it seconds after, he sounded too harsh. He got up and opened up his safe, taking out the money. “I am prepared.”
“Thank you,” you said, sitting on his bed. “Can I stay? I kind of don’t have any place to go.”
“Of course, I’ll be back as soon as I can.” With those words, he left, leaving you on your own.
After some time, that you just laid on his bed, trying to not paying attention to the pain you felt in your lower stomach, Kaz came back. His cane was clicking and he opened the door with a short sigh. The owner of the White Rose hadn’t wanted to sell your contract, saying you were his property. Kaz saw red, he’d hit Onkle Felix with the cane and had just taken the paper, leaving less money that it had been needed.
When he entered the room, you were laying on your right side, your back facing the door, you hadn’t changed. Your eyes were closed, but the breath was uneven. Kaz placed his walking stick beside his bed and climbed up on the soft mattress. He wanted so bad to touch you, to remove those hairs which gotten out of your updo, to caress your cheek. He took off his gloves, eyeing his slim, pale fingers. He laid down on his bed, he had your body next to him, he could’ve touched you so easily if he had wanted to.
Without the second thought, he touched your cheek slightly, tucking a strand of your hair behind your ear. Tracing your jaw line with his finger tip, seeing how calm you looked, how relaxed your body seemed. He removed his finger, testing his boundaries, yours also. He didn’t want to scare you off both by his trauma and yours.
“Don’t stop.” You whispered, gently opening your eyes, your voice raspy.
“Are you okay with that?”
“Kind of, just don’t stop.”
He wanted to pull you closer to him, to hug you properly, but instead, he took your hand in his and just traced small patterns on your palm. You smiled a little, falling asleep, while Kaz was just looking at you, remembering every detail on your face.

Of Jealousy and Friendship - Pt. 1
Topic number 2 won in the vote to be written next! So without further-a-do, let’s get going!...This ended up being a two part thing. Oh Well. Here’s part one. - B GN! MC Summary: MC makes a lower demon friend who may secretly be hoping for something more than friendship. The Demon Bros are not about to let this happen. Part Two: Here, Epilogue: Here It all started in magical potions. When you first arrived, the course wasn’t so bad since you took it with Beelzebub. The two of you always partnered up; the hour would consist of you jokingly scolding Beel for trying to eat ingredients and making light hearted jokes with one another whenever the teacher turned their back.  But once the second semester started, Beel was moved out of the course as it had gotten too expensive to keep him in a class where most of the subject matter was edible.  Which left you alone and bored in the classroom as the teacher went on and on about Mandrake roots and what they can be used for. You let out a heavy sigh and plopped your forehead onto the desk.  A soft snort came from beside you. You glanced over to see a demon with his feet propped up on his desk staring right back at you out of the corner of his dark green eyes. He smiled at you with a tilt of his head.  “The lectures are a total snooze fest right? I joined this class cause I thought we’d be making potions and causing stuff to explode. Not sitting here twisting our thumbs all day.”
You bit back a laugh as you worried glanced over at the professor, who was none-the-wiser to the little conversation the two of you were sharing. You looked back over to the demon. His dark skin caused those hauntingly green eyes of his pop out at all who met his gaze, with carefully trimmed and styled black curls sitting stylishly on the top of his head.  There was a playful and mischievous energy to him that reminded you of Belphie, Asmo and Mammon.  “Unfortunately suffering through this section of class is mandatory to be allowed to mess around with the fun stuff.”  The demon groaned and threw his head back. “Urgh, that’s so unfair. What’s the worst that can happen? The potion explodes and kills us? Newsflash teach, we’re already dead.”  You couldn’t help the laugh that slipped out at that one.  “Well actually the worse that could happen, for you at least as I am a very mortal human, is that you’d suffer the consequences from one of the potions. Anything from shrinking to de-aging to charms, all kinds of things. I’ve seen the effects of a potion gone wrong a number of times during my time down here. Trust me; you don’t want to be on the receiving end.”  He looked over at you with an analytical eye as the corners of his lips tilted upwards. “So you’re the human that everyone’s talking about.” He trailed off, and glanced over at the teacher to make sure they weren’t looking before stretching out his hand towards you. “I’m Cane. You know despite being the talk of RAD, I don’t think I’ve ever heard anyone mention your name?”  You took his hand into your own and lightly shook it. “I’m MC.”
Cane leaned back into his chair, “It’s a pleasure to finally put a name and face to that glowing reputation of yours, MC. I see your pretty good at this potions thing, and I hear that you’re a lot of fun. How about you meet me downtown for supper later and we can study and get to know each other a little better?”  Your initial instinct was to agree, but then you paused as you thought of the brothers. “I don’t know. I don’t think that Lucifer or the others would like it much if I went out on my own.”  The demon huffed and light heartedly rolled his eyes. “You won’t be alone, you’ll be with me. I may not be as powerful as them, but I’m still a pretty good fighter.” He teasingly placed a gentle punch onto your shoulder, “Besides, it’s not like they’re boss of you. Are you really going to let a bunch of snobby Lords keep you from making the best of your time in the Devildom?”  That last remark hit a nerve. If there was one thing that had spread quite quickly about you around RAD, it was that you were known for being a little reckless, prideful, and never being able to back down from a challenge, and boy did that statement have you itching to prove him wrong.  You smiled, a sharp dangerous smile, at Cane. “I’ll go. And we’re going to do so much more than just go to a lame restaurant and study. You want to have fun and take risks? We’ll have fun and take risks. Whatever you want to do...to a degree,” you added in quickly remembering that you were talking to a demon and if you didn’t implement any boundaries there was no telling what you’d get yourself into, “I’m in.”  Cane’s eyes sparkled as his smile widened. “Damn. I guess it’s true that you’re a bit of dare devil. Alright, you’re on. Meet me at Hell’s Kitchen a 4pm. We’ll study and hit the books as promised, but afterwards...Get ready for the night of your life.”  ***
The brothers were concerned. You had rushed into the House of Lamentation after school and sprinted to your room, changed out of your uniform and promptly shouted that you were “going out” before taking off before any of them could complain.  Mammon had tried to argue that someone should follow you, and while that wasn’t a terrible idea, Lucifer wanted to give you the question of the doubt. Worst case scenario, you come back home a little scratched up and learn your lesson about taking off into the dangers of the Devildom.  At least that’s what he had thought when you had initially left.  It was now bordering midnight, and you had yet to return home.  So yeah, the brothers were very concerned.  Mammon was pacing and ranting about how this all could’ve been avoided if they had only listened to him for once.  Leviathan was trying to distract himself with his game, but everyone could see the worried glances he kept throwing to the entrance and clock as the minutes ticked by.  Satan sat near where Mammon and would occasionally scold or correct him, and sometimes even throw in his own ideas on what could be done while he thumbed through a book on location spells.  Asmodeus was strangely quiet, sitting near the fire by himself with arms wrapped around his torso as he stared into the flames. He would occasionally move a hand to wipe at his face before it went right back to hugging himself.  Beelzebub had lost his appetite. He sat next to Belphie, taking comfort in his twin’s presence, while Belphegor pretended to be unbothered and asleep, even though his mind was racing with the many stupid situations you could’ve gotten yourself into.  And Lucifer...He just sat in a door near the entryway, his eyes fixed on the entrance as he silently waited.  Finally, just as the clock stroke midnight, they could hear your recognizable laugh from behind the door.  “Oh my god! That was incredible! I don’t think I’ve ever had so much fun in life!” Leviathan stiffened at the statement, his hands gripping tighter onto his game.  “What did I tell you? I promised you the night of your life, and I sure as Diavolo always make sure to deliver,” everyone froze at the sound of the teasing male voice. “Though I didn’t expect the Seven Lords’ precious human to be a complete bad ass. You were amazing out there.”  Leviathan mumbled something before getting up and leaving the room. Mammon growled lowly and looked at the others, “Anyone know who the hell that is?”  Asmo finally stood, wiping at his face as he did, and began to stride towards the door, “Why don’t we find out?”  Without waiting for a response, Asmodeus swung the door open and pulled on a bright smile as he reached out and wrapped an arm around you. “MC, darling, you didn’t tell me you were bringing over guests! Don’t tell me you’re trying to have fun without me?”  You blinked up at the Asmo before smiling softly at his tactics. “Oh, hey Asmo! I didn’t expect you to be up. Cane here was just dropping me off.”  The demon in question didn’t even so much as stiffen as Asmodeus’s dangerous stare shifted over to him. Instead Cane stood there, relaxed, with a shit-eating grin on his face. Asmodeus raised an eyebrow at him and allowed a bit of his demonic aura to exude around him. “Oh really? At this time of night? Makes a demon wonder what kind of mischief the two of you had gotten up to,” while maintaining eye contact with Cane, Asmo rested his chin against your shoulder. “You know dear, if you wanted “fun” that badly all you had to do was ask. I assure you I could’ve shown you a much better time.” He purred and softly kissed your shoulder.  You shivered, missing the way Asmo stiffened as he noticed something, and swatted at the Avatar of Lust as you moved away from him. “Down Asmo. It’s nothing like that. Cane’s in my magical potions class. We went out to study together and decided to hit a couple clubs while we were out. No biggy.”  “If it’s ‘no biggy’ then why were you out all night without giving us any kind of warning of where you were going or how long you’d be out?” Everyone whirled around as Lucifer stood in the doorway with a frown etched on his face and his arms crossed. He took a step closer to you before freezing mid-step, his nose twitching. His eyes flared red as they fell onto Cane. The lower demon tensed and curled his hands into fists, but seemed to be refusing to back down. Lucifer snarled, “What exactly was it that you said the two of you were up to tonight?”  You frowned and stepped between Lucifer and your new friend. “Hey! Stop it! He didn’t do anything, if that’s what you’re implying. And I wasn’t aware that I needed permission for every single thing that I do!” You snapped poking his chest as you moved into his space. “So excuse me for wanting to go out and enjoy myself for once!”  Whatever fear Cane had been showing, quickly slipped away at seeing you stand your ground against the mighty first born. “Yeah. What they said.”  Lucifer growled and caught your hand into his own, pulling you close and leaning in, “You’d be wise to remember that you are in the Devildom and surrounded by beings that have no where near as good intentions as you’d assume. Being so reckless and naïve down here could get you killed again, I thought you had learned that.” His tone was cold and unapologetic as he practically spat the words in your face.  You glared at Lucifer as you yanked your hand out of his grasp. There was so many things you wanted to say to him, but none of them would be right to say in front of an audience. You huffed and turned to face Cane. “I am so sorry about those two. Thanks again for tonight and bringing me home. I’ll see you tomorrow in class, okay?”  Cane gave you a side smile as he scratched the back of his neck. “It’s nothing. I had a great time hanging out with you. Hopefully we can do again...under better circumstances. Goodnight MC.” He took a step towards you and pulled you into a hug.  You smiled, wondering how Lucifer and Asmo could be stirring up such a fuss about a guy who had been nothing but kind to you, and gently hugged him back.  What you couldn’t see, was Cane making direct eye contact with the two other demons, as one of his wrists gently brushed up and down you back and he very lightly nuzzled, so lightly that you could just barely feel it, his face against your neck.  “Hey, what’s takin’ everyone so- WHAT THE ABSOLUTE FUCK?!” Mammon stormed forward and yanked you out of the demon’s embrace, already changing into his demon form. “Who the hell do you think you are scenting our human, huh?!” He lifted Cane off the ground by the collar of his shirt, causing the lower demon growl as he scratched at Mammon’s hands.  You yanked on Mammon’s jacket and arms and tried to get him to back off. “Woah! Mammon, relax! It was just a hug!”  “No it wasn’t,” Satan grumbled as he and the rest of the brothers (excluding Leviathan who was now sulking in his room) stood in the door way. “The fact that you don’t know that makes this even worst. But this isn’t a conversation we should be having out here.” Beel stared down at the demon with a fierce glare. “You should leave while you’re still able. And if you know what’s best for you, you’ll stay away from MC.”  “Wha- Beel! Cut that out!”  Cane took a step backwards, fear beginning to spill into his expression as he finally realizes just how out-powered and out-numbered he is. Still, he was stubborn pain in the ass; it was part of the reason he had been so drawn to you in the first place as he related to your reckless habits. He held Beelzebub’s glare and returned it with one of his own. “I think that MC can choose for themself who they do and do not hang out with, thanks. They already said they wanted to see me tomorrow so they will. We’re friends after all. And classmates,” his grin sharpened as he continued. “I do have to thank you, Lord Beelzebub, for that opening in magical potions by the way. Never would’ve got in if you hadn’t been kicked out.”  Before he could say anymore, he was met with a punch in the face. Belphegore lazily shook out his hand and his looked at Cane with an unbothered expression. “I believe we told you to leave. Now get. The. Fuck. Out.”  Cane scoffed and turned to you once more. “I guess I’ll see you tomorrow, Dare Devil.”  You would’ve snorted at the nickname, but you were to distracted from the brother’s behavior. “Yeah. I’ll see you tomorrow. Get home safe, Cane.” With another nod, the demon left; leaving you alone with six of the seven brothers bubbling with jealousy, anger, and concern.

Family Matters, Greg House
Tumblr media
Word count: 1.7k~
In the time I’ve worked at Princeton-Plainsboro teaching hospital, some might say I'm the bubbly doctor in our group. Although I don’t know how true this might be, I do know everyone can agree I'm definitely more bubbly than doctor Gregory House, but that's for another day to discuss. I'm usually the one people send in to try and cheer up patients. Because of this, I mostly work in the pediatrics ward where young, sick children are. Sometimes, I have an easy time talking to the kids and making them happier, and sometimes, I don't; usually, when I'm upset, I have a hard time.
Right now, I'm having a very difficult time.
A young New Jersey girl at the age of 11 had developed mastoiditis, an infection that affects the mastoid bone above the ear and is typically caused by a middle ear infection. Usually, this all clears up, but sadly, this infection had grown to be so bad that the girl ended up with only twenty-three percent of her hearing left in the one ear. Although this is the case, I'm not having a hard time because of the girl's loss of hearing, no.
I have my own problems at the moment.
Since I'm working in the children's ward, I don't get to see Wilson or Greg as much as I want to. Despite Greg's tendency to be an asshole, he's still my best friend and not to mention that Wilson is the kind of guy anyone can talk to about anything. However, our schedules are all different, so, as I said: we don't get to see each other that often.
At least they're still in my life though. For my family, I can’t say the same. Recently, I've just lost the closest person to me in my family; although it wasn’t through death, but through immaturity and childishness. Because of this, all of my other family members have closed me out as well, causing me to be alone. With all of my friends busy and my family shutting me out, I have no one to talk to or enjoy time with... no one. I can't even get a boyfriend for Christ's sake, and it's not like the guy I have my eyes on actually likes me back. Greg is the type of guy you can easily fall in love with, yet at the same, you really shouldn't.
"Doctor (y/n)," the young girl by the name of Jessie states. Putting all my focus back on her, I remind myself not become distracted anymore today. This isn’t the first time, unfortunately. "Will my hearing ever return?"
I smile sadly at her and shake my head. "I'm sorry, Jessie," I tell her. "Your hearing in that ear won't return, but it's not a bad thing!" I assure her. She smiles in relief. "We can always get you a hearing aid, and that will help get your hearing back to normal again, but the wait might be a little long," I explain. "Is that okay with you?"
She nods her head at my question. "I'm okay with that, doctor (Y/n)," Jessie tells me, "I'll have my family help me until then," she smiles brightly. "You can always look up to your family, right?" She states, confident in her words.
Tears slowly rising to my eyes at the thought, I nod and quickly blink them away. "That's right," I tell her, still smiling. "And don't you ever forget it," looking toward her parents, I nod my head. "The discharge nurse will be here in a few moments with the papers. If you'll excuse me..."
Without another word, I quickly leave the room and walk as fast as I can to the nearest empty room. I prefer going to James’ office instead, but it's two floors away, and I don't want any awkward elevator trips. So, before I have a mental breakdown in the middle of the hallway, I find an unlocked janitorial closet before walking in and closing the door behind me, ultimately sliding down the hardwood door once it's shut.
Sitting on the cold, tile floor, I begin sobbing as quiet as I can, my hand covering my mouth. I already had my family drama on my mind all day, but for that girl to unintentionally throw it back in my face? That was the frosting on top of the already leaning, three-layer cake.
Tears stream down my cheeks like raindrops as I cry my heart out. I can tell my cheeks are red by the sensation of heat I currently feel on them; my hands feel it too. I'm crying so hard my chest begins to heave up and down as if I were having a panic attack. Oh God, I can't have a panic attack. Not here, not now.
Behind me, I feel two knocks on the door, causing me to halt. The only problem is: the knock wasn't above me, it was where my back is against the door. Remind you, I'm currently sitting on the floor. The only way someone can knock that low is if there is a midget behind the door there or someone used something like a cane... it's Greg.
Slowly moving up a little, I shakily open the door and let the grey haired man in, watching as he looks at me with pity. I've never seen the confident doctor House look like this with anyone. It's like a... a totally different Greg.
Sitting down beside me against the door, Greg drops his cane beside him as he sighs and wraps his arm around me before gently tugging my body close to his. Shocked, I tense up, tears no longer pouring out of my eyes. Greg never comforts anyone like this. He always makes fun of them or says something that many people take offense to, but he never... he never cares. He always brushes it off his shoulder, yet for some reason, he seems like he actually cares this time.
"What's wrong?" He asks, his voice deep as usual with no emotion.
I wait a few seconds before lying. "Nothing important," I tell him, my voice wavering from my scattered emotions.
Pulling me back to face him, Greg looks me in the eye before sighing again. "I know you've been crying by the wet tears on your cheeks, slight puffiness, and redness to your eyes, and fast-paced breathing - and I don’t even have to be a doctor to notice that," he breaks down my current state, lifting an eyebrow. "Now, are you going to begrudgingly tell me what's wrong or do I need to stay in here with you until you finally give in to all my unrelenting sexiness."
His comment makes me laugh, causing a grimace of a smile to fall on House's lips. Out of all of us, I've been the only one to do that. I've been the only one to break Greg's stone exterior and interior. Plus, It doesn't help that I like Greg romantically. I like the fact that he's confident and witty; he's not afraid to be himself. Although, he can still be quite an ass to others, but to me, he’s always been nothing but kind. Even when I first started working here, he was still patient and sweet - a rare sight to everyone else. It used to hurt me to think he’ll never feel the same way as me, but I’ve gotten so used to that fact that it doesn’t even bother me anymore.
"It's just... my family," I explain, Greg pushing my head back onto his shoulder as he holds me. At this point, I'm not shocked by anything he does. The infamous doctor could be high for all I know. He probably took a few Vicodin tablets before coming down here now that I think of it.
"They've completely... shut me out," I explain, shrugging as I rest my hand on his shoulder. "They never talk to me anymore, they've blocked me in any way of even trying to talk to them. My cousin just sent me an email last night telling me that I didn't need to contact them anymore as they no longer wanted me in their lives," I close my eyes, tears rolling down my cheeks. "Plus, I wish I could work with you guys again," I take a breath before saying the next thing. "I miss you."
A few seconds of silence pass before Greg leans down to my face level. Opening my eyes, I'm greeted by his own sapphire orbs, watching as he continually inches forward until his lips plant themselves on mine. Our eyes close at the same time in response to the touch of our lips, and they stay that way too. With my heart beating fast and a different fire in my cheeks, I instantly respond to his kiss while placing my hands on the sides of his face, feeling his hands attach themselves to my hips as I do so. We kiss until we have to breathe, both of us pulling apart simultaneously.
"They don't deserve you," Greg tells me, a little out of breath. "You are wonderful; a decent and kind human being, inside and out," he takes a small pause, flashing his blue eyes down to mine. "I never thought I’d say this, but… because of you, I think maybe not everyone is a horrible person and that maybe I can be a bit nicer a time or two," he then smiles at me, kissing me once more. "You have made me feel love believe it or not."
Smiling, I lean up to kiss his forehead before sitting back down and resting my head against his chest, my eyes cast upon him as he looks down at me. "You've also made me feel love," I confess to him, my voice shy. "I've grown to love you as well. You and your sarcastic comments and witty comebacks and your insults to apparent stupid people," for once, he laughs, making me grin. "I can't help but love it all."
After a few moments, Greg speaks up. "I know I can't be your entire family," he murmurs, holding me close. "But I can try to be your... your..." He draws on, clearly trying to come up with an appointed title for himself. After a few seconds, I giggle and cut him off.
"Boyfriend?" I ask, making him roll his eyes.
"I was going to say significant other," he argues, looking over to me. "The term boyfriend is so, well, childish," he complains, making me giggle.
Leaning closer, I peck his lips. "Good thing you have a childish mind," I tease him, pressing my lips to his one more time before he responds to my comment with something horrible or completely inappropriate. It is Doctor House we’re talking about, after all.

So this is about as far as I’ve gotten so updates will slow down but I’ll do my best to post as much as possible.
Shadows and Scars
Chapter 10
Tumblr media
The majority of what Heartrenders do has beneficial side effects. We can soothe tempers, calm heart rates, slow breathing to keep someone unconscious, and many other abilities that I had unknowingly mastered in my time as a healer. The offensive moves were another thing entirely.
I felt sweat trickle down my brow as I tried to stop the blood flow to a volunteering palace guard. My hands shook as I felt the blood to his head slow and his eyes started to flutter. I struggled to keep them in place after doing moves and exerting my power for the past few hours.
The slight tremor they had was enough to break the guard out of his state and his blood flowed as it normally did.
I let out an exasperated groan and dropped my hands.
“Perhaps that’s enough for today.” Feydor said, opening the training room door for the guard who promptly left.
“I’m sorry.” I said sadly. I clenched my fists together tightly. “I was so close!”
“It’s all right y/n.” Feydor put a calming hand on my shoulder and I craned my neck up to look at the taller man. “These techniques are difficult and you weren’t expected to know them. It’s why you’re here.”
I sighed at his easy smile.
“And since you already were almost there, then you’ll understand it in no time!” He led me out of the room and stopped in the doorway. “You have the rest of the day to do as you please. We’ll continue combat training and these techniques again tomorrow.”
I nodded silently.
“Get some rest!” He said, releasing me from his hand and walking away.
I bit my lip nervously. But what if I never did get it? What if they change their minds and send me through the… I can’t do it again.
More than anything I wanted to take a bath or crawl into my bed and sleep, but I had some time before we met for dinner and Ivan had mentioned that the General had wanted to see me.
I leaned heavily on my cane, unused to all of the physical exercises that I did today and in need of endurance. Since his halls were on the way to mine, I slowly headed in that direction.
The halls of the Little Palace were quiet and I relished in the unusual peace. The others must still be training or doing their assignments.
I tried not to think about how much more qualified they were to be in my position than I was, but of course the thoughts swarmed me.
You lost.
You failed.
You can’t do it.
I shook my head to clear my thoughts and arrived at Aleksander’s door. The dark material stood out against the otherwise white marble walls of the palace and my hand hovered over the door before I knocked loudly.
I didn’t hear anything on the other side of the room, but when the door opened I was met with an angry general. “What?” He snapped before noticing it was me. Once he did, his shoulders slumped forward and the anger on his face disappeared.
“I’m sorry Miss y/l/n. It’s been a long day.” He rubbed his hands over his eyes tiredly.
“It’s ok, I can always come back another time if you’re busy- you seem busy so I’ll-“ I stepped back and started to leave when he gently grabbed my wrist.
“No please, it’s fine.” I stared at the sudden contact before letting him pull me into his war room.
It was just as I remembered it, although now it was more cluttered with paper and maps.
“I heard about your training from Feydor and Ivan.” Aleksander said, waving over a servant who was stationed in the hall. “Tea.”
He closed the doors behind us and gave me a tired smile. “You’re even farther along than I’d thought.”
“How did Feydor already tell you what happened, we just finished training?” I asked, walking over to the table and looking at the fold. Anya was there. Saints I hope she was alright. I pulled out a letter I had written for her and fiddled with it in my hands.
“He rushed over here first and told me everything. I had asked to be kept informed on your progress.” A soft knock at the door revealed the servant who shakily gave the General the tea pot and cups on a silver platter. He closed the door after taking it without a thank you or acknowledging her presence.
In a few strides, he walked over to me and gently placed the tray on the table before pouring it into two cups.
I watched the hot liquid create streams of steam that swirled into the air before responding. “Oh.” Very eloquent I know.
“I always keep watch on my future guards.” He said, handing me a cup. The China was heated from the warm tea and I took it with a small thank you.
“Out of those, how many do you have tea with?” I said jokingly. I took a long sip from the cup and leaned against the table.
“Only the ones who know my true name.” Aleksander responded with a smile. He slid closer to me. “I do have to ask you to keep that quiet.”
I watched him sip from his cup and nodded.
“Of course. I haven’t told anyone.” I felt my heart beating as he looked at me and put his cup down. “I do have a quick question though.”
“Ask away.” He said with a smile as he snaked his arm around my waist.
“Could you get this letter to my friend?” I asked, handing him my letter to Anya. “She’s stationed in Kribirsk where you found the sun summoner.”
“I recall.” Aleksander’s long fingers slid the letter from my hand and set it down next to him. “Consider it done.”
“Thank you.” I said, taking a sip of tea.
“Of course. May I ask you something?” He smirked as he stepped in front of me, his arms wrapped around my waist. I was suddenly aware how close we were when he grabbed my cup and put it on the desk.
“Um- of course.” I stuttered.
He leaned in closer and our noses touched. He smiled again when he saw me blushing. “I quite like it when you blush.” He said, his voice rough. “Care for me to make you blush more?”
At that my face did get redder and he chuckled. I stood there not knowing what to do when he closed the distance between us and our lips touched.
His lips were warm and gentle and I found myself kissing him back. He had one hand firmly around my waist but raised the other to my hair. I cradled his head in my hands as we kissed passionately.
I was disappointed when he broke away, but by my heavy breaths I could tell that we both needed air.
“Should we be doing this?” I breathed out.
“Probably not but I don’t give a damn.” He said before he started to place kisses on my neck. My eyes fluttered shut as he continued.
“Wait!” I shouted and shoved him off. “What just happened?”
“I was about to-“
“We can’t do this.” I said running my hands on my face. “You’re my superior and I’m… well…” I motioned to my leg sadly.
“Breathtaking.” He said, gently gripping my chin and raising my eyes to meet his. “You are absolutely breathtaking.”
“No I’m not.” I protested as tears leaked out of my eyes. “I’m- I’m not some beautiful grisha. I can barely walk without this!” I picked up my cane and waved it in his face. “I don’t know what you wanted when you brought me here, but maybe I can’t do it.”
His eyes grew soft as he leaned in and gave me a hug. I stiffened at first before relaxing into his embrace. “You’re right.”
I flinched, but he continued. He ran his fingers through my hair. “You’re better. You’re different.” He pulled away and wiped my tears.
“I won’t do anything you don’t want to, but I would be honored if you’d join me for dinner and for the night.” I wearily glanced at his bed. “Just sleeping, I promise. Unless you feel like doing something else.”
I nodded numbly before I thought about it. “Ok. That sounds nice.”
His face brightened at that. “Good, I have some books in here if you want to read while I finish up my work for tonight.” He led me over to a bookshelf and handed me a battered copy of a book.
“This one is a favorite of mine.”
“I can tell.” I said admiring the cover. It was so worn that I couldn’t see the title, but anything read that many times must be good.
“There’s a chair over there if you’d like.” He pointed to a comfortable looking chair covered in books. “You can move these out of the way.” He waved at them dismissively before striding over to his desk.
I walked over to the chair, moved the books, and had just settled in when Aleksander spoke up. “And y/n?”
“Yes?”
“You and I are going to change the world.”

End of all things [1] | Chat Noir x witch!reader
Fandom: Miraculous Ladybug (Adrien Agreste/Chat Noir)
Summary: Y/N had been Chat Noir’s friend and moral support for a long time now. Even though she had magical powers too, she never liked getting involved with akuma attacks, but now, as Hawkmoth’s gotten control of the miraculous of creation, she couldn’t stay indiferent anymore. She had to save her friend and Paris!
Genre: Mostly angst? A little fluff
Warnings: canon typical violence, mentions of death/dying
A/N: This was requested, but as I was writting it, it got very long and I’ve decided to post it in 2 parts. I’m not gonna post the request just now, so as to not spoil the rest of the story but Part 2 will be coming out on friday!!!
Part 2
~~~
Chat was pacing around the room, waiting for you to be done with your potion. You had heard from your parents that there had been a new akuma attack today, but as the news reported, the two parisian heros took care of the problem in no time. For this reason, Chat’s presence at your house felt unusual. Normally he would stop by when he needed to rant, when he was in need of comfort and reassurance but the fight today went well, so what could possibly be bothering him?
“Ok, I’m done” you said, screwing the cap on the little bottle and placing it on your shelf “Wanna talk?” you asked, to which Chat gave you a shy smile
“Yeah, a little”
You made your way to your bed, motioning for him to follow you. You got under your covers and passed him his favorite plushie, a cat to no one’s surprise
“So what’s up? Is it about the fight today?”
“Well no it’s more like a...personal problem?”
“Oh…”
“Claws out” in a rush of light and electricity, the infamous hero vanished before you, transforming into Adrien Agrest
“Well, what is it?”
Adrien revealed his identity to you months ago. You first met him as Chat, but when you really got to know each other, he decided you needed to know all of him. Well, he needed you to know all of him.
You listened to him rant until way past midnight. Until you were both too tired to stand up straight, so you laid down in your bed, covers up to your necks, muffled stories told in between yawns. You listened carefully, giving him your full attention. He fidgeted with the collar of the stuffed toy and you used your magic to make 2 hot chocolates. Eventually, everything that needed to be said, was said. You offered Adrien to watch a movie, since that always cheered him up, but he refused
“It’s late and I have a photoshoot early in the morning. My makeup team will be angry with my dark circles anyways, better not make it worse” he joked
Adrien transformed back into Chat and you cast a safety spell on him, which you did every time he left your house late at night. He always teased you about being ‘too protective’, but deep down he found it sweet how much you cared and wanted to know that he would get home in one piece.
“Night Chat” you said, wrapping your arms around the hero
“Good night Y/N!”
The next few days went by quietly. You hadn’t run into Adrien at all, but you texted a bit back and forth. Sunday evening however, things took a toll for the worst. You turned on your tv, ready to catch up with your show when you heard Nadja Chamack’s voice doing the news report
“It seems as though Rena Rouge and Chat Noir are struggling to stay on their feet! They have taken shelter under a fallen bus, leaving Ladybug alone to defeat Hawkmoth'' your pulse skyrocketed. As you watched the screen you could see Chat and Rena off to the side, struggling to catch their breath. Rena seemed to be in pain while Chat was trying to help. Ladybug was using her yoyo the best she could in order to protect herself from the supervillain, who was wielding his cane like a sword over her head. The fight was clearly going in Hawkmoth's favour! You grabbed your jacket and ran out the front door and onto the empty streets of Paris, towards the Eiffel Tower, where the fight was taking place.
People screamed at you from their balconies to go home, warning you about the fight and the danger you were putting your life in but you didn’t care. All you could think about was how they needed you. Chat needed you! Every late night talk and every inside joke shared between you two replaid in your head like a broken record. Behind Chat’s tough mask, his alter ego of hero and protector, was the fragile figure of Adrien Agreste. The young blonde boy who cried during romantic comedies, who liked to have his hair braided and forgot how to speak when someone complimented him. If you didn’t help, the heros would loose and he would most likely die! Alongside Ladybug and Rena who, even though you didn’t know their real identities, were still young girls. As you ran down the street, you heard kids crying inside one of the homes. You ran past but at the last second you heard Nadia’s voice coming from their tv
“Ladybug was akumatized”
You approached the Eiffel tower from the side, where you could see everything going on. In front of the tower, right next to Hawkmoth, stood Marinette Dupain-Cheng, dressed in a tight, dark red suit, darker than Ladybug’s. Black butterflies replaced the dots of the heroine's suit and the purple butterfly mask of Hawkmoth’s control was shining over her face. Marinette was Ladybug! She did, in fact, get akumatized. On the other side, you saw Rena and Chat, struggling to stay up right. They were obviously in a lot of pain and extremely tired, but Hawkmoth was merely mocking them.
“After all this time” Chat spoke up, but his breaths were shallow and rapid “I thought you’d know one thing about us! We don’t give up without a fight. Never will. Especially not against you” and with that, the two ran at each other.
“It doesn’t have to end like this, you know?” he said “We don’t have to fight to death. I wouldn’t want to have that on my conscience. All you have to do is give me your miraculouses willingly. The town will be safe, you will be safe! It’s the most heroic option you’ve got. You won’t be any good to Paris if you are dead”
You knew this was not just another fight between them. This was it. Either the heros won or everything they’ve worked for would be lost. Hawkmoth would win and get his hands on both miraculous and god knows what kind of destruction that would bring not only upon Paris, but the world. You focused all your energy in one spot in the air, right between where Chat and Hawkmoth were supposed to clash but before they could reach each other, you sent a wave of energy that blew both of them apart, like a bomb. Hawkmoth flew back into the Eiffel tower while Chat hit the pavement with a thud. Confused and certainly disturbed, both of them began looking around for an answer as to what happened when, finally, Hawkmoth’s eyes landed on yours.
“Aha, miss Y/L/N. What a spectacular honor to finally meet you!” you didn’t reply, instead you stood tall, maintaining eye contact
“I know a lot about you. Seen a lot. Felt a lot of your emotions. None of them can compare to the powers I’ll have with the two miraculouses. With Ladybug’s earrings and the guardian under my control, I’d say my mission here is almost over’’
“Y/N get back!’’ Chat screamed but you were too involved now to run. This was your fight too.
“It is time you give up Hawkmoth. Paris is not yours, neither are the miraculouses. We will destroy you, no matter what it takes!”
“Listen to yourself, kid! <<Destroy me>>? The most you can do is pull a rabbit out of your hat…” before he could finish his sentence, you snapped your fingers in his direction and instantly, the ground around beneath Hawkmoth and akumatized Marinette, fractured. From within the cracks, many tangled plants came out, encapsulating the 2 villains. You sprinted towards Chat and Rena, ignoring the signs of struggle coming from the prison of weeds.
 Alongside the two superheros, you hid inside a corner coffee shop, which was now empty.
“Y/N, you need to leave!! You are putting yourself in too much danger!” Rena told you, as she collapsed to the ground from exhaustion
“Stop with that already! I am here and I’m not going anywhere!”
“Yes you are!” Chat looked at you. His voice was calm and yet, his eyes were filled with disappointment “You are not a superhero. This is our job!”
“You need help”
“No we don’t!” Chat had never, in all your years of friendship, raised his voice at you, let alone yell “ You need to stay safe! You could die! Hawkmoth doesn’t care about anything if it helps him get what he wants! I am ready to take that risk. Rena is too” you both turned to the red headed hero, only to see her slowly nod “But I can’t allow you to take it”
“You can’t tell me what to do”
“I don’t want you to die!” he screamed again “I love you and I will never forgive myself if you don’t come out of this alive!”
Before you could say anything, you saw Hawkmoth and his minion, through the cafe window, cutting through the last of the plants and escaping your trap. You grabbed Chat’s arm and pulled him to the floor, from where you could not be seen
“We’re in this together now” you said in a stern voice, looking the blonde kid right in his eyes “Whether you like it or not '' this time, he simply nodded.
You stuffed your hands into the pocket of your jacket and pulled out 3 little bottles, containing a mate, green liquid. You had prepared one for each of the heros, now you’d only need two.
“Here, drink this!” You handed each of them one “Regeneration potion. Should put you back on your feet.” as soon as they finished drinking the brew, you could see color coming back to their faces
“Where’s Marinette’s akuma??”
“Her necklace” replied Rena “It’s a gift from her kwami”
“Got it. You deal with Hawkmoth. I’ll bring Marinette back!”
Chat and Rena exited through the front door, grabbing Hawkmoth’s attention. He called out to Marinette to attack, but before she could take a single step in your direction, you had snuck up behind her. Using a simple invisibility spell, you managed to exit unnoticed behind the two heros. It finally felt like the fight had truly begun. From the corner of your eye you could see Chat and Rena doging Hawkmoth’s attacks while you, were doing your best to get your hands on the stupid necklace! Even though she couldn’t see you, Marinette seemed to almost always know what your next move was. She would expertly block all your attack and would keep you an arm’s length away at all times. Finally, you had enough and in one swift motion, you pinned her back to your chest, ripping the necklace away. A wave of black and purple took over the both of you and when it vanished, all you were left with was a half unconscious Marinette in your arms. You dropped her to the ground slowly as she was coming back to her senses. You wanted to talk to her but your thoughts were driven away as you heard Chat scream bloody murder.
On the opposite side of the platza, you saw Hawkmoth rip Chat’s ring off his finger, forcing him to detransform. The exhausted figure of Adrien Agreste fell to the ground with a thud. Hawkmoth had, indeed, gotten his hand on both the miraculouses.
(not my gif)
Tumblr media
Freddie was closing in but not as fast as she wanted to. She found that Florence had a gorgeous array of suits that she could get and was happy enough to help herself. She knew though that that was not the reason she was there. She was there to find Hannibal before Jack did. It wasn’t an easy task but it was one she was doing, slowly but surely.
If she could just narrow down which of these many buildings housed a murderer, that would be enough.
===
Alana needed to keep her family safe. Staying at her house was going to drive her mad. Sitting on the couch, waiting for something to go wrong. Margot could tell that her wife was growing more antsy by the moment. Something Margot would catch Alana staring out the window defensively, like something was going to jump through the glass and shatter the life she had built for herself.
That’s why Margot suggested they go.
Alana put her cane on the ground as she walked into the clear white room. She would have thought Chilton would have gotten out of the hospital by now but he was far too burned to do that.
“I’m surprised you aren’t dead,” Alana commented as she walked into the room, hair up in a bun, red suit on. Margot walked beside her. It had taken some convincing to get Alana this far away from their son but eventually she caved. She needed to take some of the power back for herself, and have some sort of leverage for when Hannibal eventually showed up.
Chilton looked up at her.
“Oh yes, I’ve been informed that you can’t speak very well,” Alana said, looking down at him. She was pleased to be standing above him. He had always been the slimy kind. She had taken his job after all, they had never been friends.
His skin was still charred. He didn’t even look like himself. She wouldn't be able to recognize him like this from far away.
“Why are you here?” he asked, teeth grinding as he spoke, the words just barely able to escape his thin lips.
“We’ve come to ask you about Will and Y/N Graham. Ask what you knew about where they might be,” Margot said. Chilton’s eyes, veiny white, darted around the room.
“I don’t know,” he told them after some effort. “You had Hannibal,” he said, referring to when Alana had Hannibal under her care.
“And you had Will. Hannibal is slightly predictable but there are other variables at work here that we should take into account.”
“The only person,” Chilton said and it seemed to be taking him a lot of effort to speak. His chest rose and fell a couple of times before he was able to speak again. “That is allowed to hurt them.” Another long pause. “Is Hannibal himself.”
Margot let that mull over in the air for a moment.
“Possessions,” Chilton said.
“They’re his possessions,” Margot breathed and nodded. Like he didn’t quite love them, further than Hannibal could love. They were things he could play with until he got bored of them.
The barbaric idea struck Margot but it did not strike Alana as she held her cane tight in her hand.
===
Will Graham was not an avid lover of the arts. Hannibal knew this when he decided the three of you had to live together. You could grow to love the things he adored, though it may take some time. But Will would always be the fisherman that liked to use 2 in one shampoo and conditioner. Hannibal didn’t think he minded this very often. Just that it was odd, considering his tastes.
But Will had his own beauty.
He was especially beautiful now, with his hand in stabbing someone's last breath out of them. Blood splattered onto his face, his clean curls frazzled.
“Why did you do that?” Hannibal asked, looking down at the awfully rude dinner guest. It was the fourth death at this house and would surely not be the last. It was however, the first death Will did of his own volition.
“Because he was talking too much,” Will spat.
“I really should get rid of these knives,” you muttered, looking down. If Will didn’t know better he would think you were being held hostage here. You were always just slightly too monotone, just a bit uninterested. “You all keep using them to kill people.”
“You do as well,” Hannibal argued.
“On the contrary,” you muttered. “Will killed this one. You killed the first one and the second one. Bedelia was killed by none of us.” Hannibal mulled that over.
“I’ve been taking all the fun, I apologize,” he said. You shook your head. Will thought the expression on your face looked far too much like Bedelia’s. Angry, helpless. “It’s quite alright.” You picked up the napkin that was on your lap. “I want to go and lay down.”
===
Will and you were in bed while Hannibal stayed up just a little bit longer in the gentle glow of the lamp light. His fingers drummed the phone. He didn’t like to use it, considering where he was at.
But he was now contemplating his happy little family.
Things were coming together. Soon, he imagined, you would come back around. You would be rough around the edges and more ruthless but you would be back. Will was already right where Hannibal figured he would be.
He didn’t want this to be ruined by Jack Crawford again.
This solution was temporary, he knew that.
But it was all he could think to do right now. It would buy him the necessary time to move the chess pieces around the board as he saw fit.
He picked up the phone and dialed.
It rang only twice and then Freddie Lounds picked up.
“Hello, Freddie Lounds here.” She sounded just as she had the last time he laid eyes on her. Pestering, quick, squeaky.
“Hello Freddie.”
Her breath caught in her throat.
Freddie was standing in a wine shop, eyes wide. She walked outside briskly and leaned against the store window. She very quickly went to record the call on her phone.
“Hannibal. Are you aware you’re the talk of the town back in America?”
“I had a hunch.”
“Why are you calling me?” she questioned. He looked through the door at the bedroom. He could see only the blanket indents of yours and Will’s feet but they fueled him with confidence.
“I need a favor.”
“Oh? And what do I get in return?”
“You get the scoop of a lifetime Miss Lounds. But only if you lead our friend Jack astray. Do you have a pen?”
===
Alana swished her wine, looking at her wide. She was skittish, though she was acting like she wasn’t. She was trying and failing to stay grounded.
“I could have ended this so long ago,” she mused. Margot was pleased she was talking about it.
“How would you know it would end up here?”
“I should have known,” Alana muttered, more to herself than Margot. “I knew Hannibal. Will and Y/N were my friends. I should have done something the second Jack wanted Will to work for him.”
“You were clearly otherwise indisposed.”
“You promised not to speak about that,” Alana said but she was laughing. Margot shrugged.
“We’ve all made mistakes.” “My mistake was a murderer,” Alana breathed. “And then he kept making mistakes. Mistake after mistake.”
“By that logic it’s also my fault. I knew Hannibal and Will and Y/N. Why should you be the only one at fault?”
“I know what Y/N would say,” Alana said fondly. “She would blame only one person. One man.”
===
When Will’s breath was even you slipped out of bed. Your bare feet padded on the ground to the bathroom. Hannibal had gone to sleep forty five minutes ago and he too was now under. You watched the two of them as they breathed, trying to feel something for them.
You knew you loved both of them. In your mind you knew that.
But the only thing you could feel was hatred for Jack Crawford. Spite. Vengeance.
You put on one of the suits Hannibal had given you and slipped on your boots. You grabbed the kitchen knife and walked down the stairs to the street level. The knife was cool against your side, where you had kept it so you wouldn’t alarm anyone.
You had checked to see what the last FBI plane had arrived and where they were staying.
You hailed a cab and asked it to take you to the hotel. Fancy. Something Bella would have chosen for Jack when she was alive.
The drive was unbearably long, a good thirty minutes. You told the cab driver not to wait and then you were there, so close to Jack Crawford’s final death. You wondered if he would have the scar you gave him. You thought about reopening it, cutting him where he should be cut, where Abigail had been cut twice.
It would be poetic.
It would be deserved.
You walked up to the front desk.
“I’m sorry,” you said, pulling up your old receptionist voice. “My dear Jack Crawford is staying here but didn’t tell me the number. Could you help me?”
“I can’t give you that information ma’am.”
“Oh I know but it’s a date and I want to surprise him.” You leaned over the desk. “Just lookup Crawford for me. Please.”
The receptionist stared at you and your suit. He was clearly too tired to fight with you. He put some words into the computer and shook his head.
“There’s no Jack Crawford here. There’s a Miram Crawford.” He narrowed his eyes on you. You leaned back, straightening your posture.
“Oh. His wife. Awful timing. Can you give me that number?”
“361.”
“You’re a dear.” You slid a sizable amount of cash to him and walked to the elevator. You rode it up to the third floor. You knocked on room 361, standing at the side so that Miriam couldn’t see you through the peephole.
She opened the door slowly and you quickly moved so you were in front of her, pushing her inside the room. She gasped. You knocked her gun out of her hand and held the knife to her stomach, drawing blood through her white t-shirt.
“Miriam, Miriam, Miriam,” you whispered. “What are you doing here? Jack too scared to face me in person?”
She didn’t say anything. You were too impatient to be nice. You jabbed the knife edge a little further. Her eyes went wide.
“I won’t say anything.”
“I know Jack Crawford is here,” you whispered. “Where is he?”
“He’s not here.”
“Where Miriam?” “He isn’t here!” You rolled your eyes and took a step back.
“That was rude of me.” You brushed off your shirt and leaned down, picking up her gun. He leaned against the window, her back to the glass. She was petrified. She had met you before, or maybe she hadn’t, maybe she had just heard of you. What had they called you in the papers when Will was in jail? The Bloody Valentines. “Miriam, where is Jack?”
“I don’t know,” she said, trying to even her breathing but failing. “He doesn’t even know that I’m here. I-I came here to help him but he didn’t want me in the field already.” “I can see why,” you mused. “You aren’t ready to face Hannibal.”
“I could arrest you right now,” she said, voice stiff.
“Without this?” You waved the gun around. “I doubt it.”
“He’s gonna get you,” she promised. “Jack is gonna get you and Will and Hannibal. You’re all bad people.”
“Are you trying to convince yourself or me?”
“You should just turn yourself in. Tell me where Hannibal is.”
“I should. It’s not like you can take him.” You cleared your throat and put the gun down on the table that was between the two of you. “Miriam you’re in way over your head.” “You and Will didn’t start like this. Will was nice.”
“Will killed a man at dinner yesterday,” you told her and her eyes fell. The idea of Will in her head was so heroic and helpful, albeit slightly jittery. Why would he do this? Why would you?
“Jack’s in Florence he just isn’t with you. That’s fine.” You held the knife in your hand and walked up to her. Her breathing got more erratic as you raised the knife. The edge hit the wall just beside her head. She jumped. “Tell him I’m ready for him to face his fears.”
She went to grab the knife to fight you back but you had already left the room. She scrambled for the gun, rushing forward to the door but at the end of the hall the elevator doors were closing with you behind them.
====
“Are you sure Freddie said Hannibal was staying here?” Theadore asked. He looked up at the warehouse. Jack couldn’t shake the feeling that it was eerily similar to the one he had found Miraim in after he thought she was dead.
“Yes,” Jack said, voice monotone. He took out his gun and walked to the front door. He knocked only once. When there was no answer he kicked the door open, Theadore walking behind him inside.
It was a large empty warehouse that smelled vaguely of decomposing corpses. There was a body in the middle of the room against a pillar. Flowers pooling around the floor, a dead blue face with flowers coming out of the severed neck. Several limbs were missing.
Theadore gasped, gagging.
“Bedelia?”
My Little Physician Empress ~ Yin Zhen x Reader
Just a story in which reader, a regular girl, was allowed since very young to aid her father in being a Royal Physician, and helped the princes through the years without asking for anything in return.
Tumblr media
Since ancient times, views on physician women have been distorted times and times again - Sometimes they are shamans, other times they are witches, and oftentimes, they simply don't deserve to live, no matter how many lives they save, or how capable they are.
Even now, in Qing dynasty, there is stigma, and all the physicians in the palace are men.
But that will soon change when, one day, a Physician from outside the palace is able to come up with a proper cure for the plague that was rampaging the people and somehow, found its way inside the palace too, and he was rewarded handsomely - He was awarded a wish granted - Any wish he wanted.
And that was to have his daughter allowed to aid him in his work inside the palace. He explained how his daughter played around with concoctions one day, and somehow gave him the brilliant idea for a revolutionary cure, and with this story, the Emperor indulged the old man and got them both in the palace.
They didn't earn a lot of money, but it was enough for them to dress appropriately with living in the palace. The girl never got any kind of accessory, so she mainly held her hand in a simply braid, occasionally put some flowers in it, and was ready to go on with the day in aiding her father.
But she was always a curious little girl, and very often, she went outside to play and discover every nook and cranny around the palace - Which is when she met the fourth prince - Not that she knew, though.
She held some struggling and splashing in the water one night, and saw a eunuch running away. Upon investigating, she saw a child who wasn't trashing around anymore, and he was about her age. She jumped in the lotus pond, getting him to the surface and, after opening his jacket, she pressed on his chest between his lungs and leaned in to give him the kiss of life.
As expected, the boy then jolted in a sitting position and started coughing, before falling into her arms once again, exhausted.
"How are you feeling?" she asked in a gentle voice, her hand on his cheek to get his attention. "Fine...I'm better now...Whoever pushed me is going to get killed, I'll make sure of that." the boy was angry, and rightfully so. He tried to get up, but was still wobbly, so the girl helped him go back to his room, letting him lean on her side. "It was an Eunuch. I saw him running away from the pond after you got underneath the water." she told him what she saw. "Now that I think about it...Who are you? I've never seen you around the palace, have I?" he asked suspiciously. "Don't be suspicious of the person who saved your life. I am Y/N, daughter of the Royal Physician who came up with the cure for the plague." she explained in a gentle manner. "Figures. Then, that means you know who I am, don't you?" he scoffed lightly. "Uh...No, not really. Should I?" she tilted her head a little to the side. "You don't? They why did you save me?" he asked, even more confused now. "...Because you were dying?! Did you notice that? Was I supposed to let you die there? Tell me, I can quite literally drag you back to the pond and throw you back if you want? I will ask for you name first and only then rescue you." she scolded him in disbelief at his ungratefulness. "No. No, you're right. Anyway, thanks for saving me. How did you save me? I know I blacked out as some point, right?" he said, and with all the nonchalance in the world, she answered. "I gave you the kiss of life." this answer made the boy stop in his tracks, yelling at her. "YOU DID WHAT?! That’s... That’s improper! I will have you flogged and caned for that! You’re a woman, and I’m a man, and we are both unmarried, it’s... It’s...!" he gaped at her in horror. "You do realise you stopped breathing, don't you? And if I didn't get you breathing again, your heart would have stopped. If your heart stopped pumping, blood wouldn't have gone everywhere in your body, to all your organs, therefor you would have gotten a total system failure in less than 10 to 15 minutes. That means, for idiots like you who don't value life, that you would have died if I didn't do that." she rolled her eyes at him, dragging him inside the pavilion, where lots of eunuchs and maids fussed over him. "Su Peisheng! Reward this maid handsomely, she saved my life." the little boy said - He must be one of the princes, the girl thought, amused. "No thanks. I saved your life, that's all. You yelled enough at me, I don't want anything from you anymore. Next time I try to save your life, remind me to ask you your name first and only then ask consent to save your life." the girl rolled her eyes at him, thinking him hypocritical, and turned around to go home, only to have the boy catch her wrist immediately. "Then, ask for anything, and I'll give it to you." he said, very seriously. "Fine. I'm not a maid, I'm a Female Physician, therefor you must address me properly from now on. Physician Y/N. Got it?" her voice was authoritarian, but she didn't inspire malice or evil, and it quite amused the young prince. "Very well. Until we meet again, Physician Y/N." and thus, making her smile softly, she left the place with a nod of Goodnight. "Su Peisheng." the boy called out his eunuch one again. "What do Physician girls like?" he asked, almost innocently. "Forgive me, Your Highness, this one does not know, for there have not been female physicians in the palace before. However, girls usually like feminine things like clothes and accessories. Miss Y/N wasn't wearing any, as far as I saw." the eunuch provided the young prince with the information. "I see...Very well. Tomorrow, you will send some red agate earrings to her. Make sure you give them to her directly." the boy ordered his slave, who nodded in agreement.
However, the next day, the eunuch returned as he left - With the gift box in his hands and endless apologies. "Miss Y/N wanted me to inform you never to gift her...To quote her...Useless things. Pardon my rudeness, Your Highness, I am merely telling you her words. She said that expensive earrings won't help her save lives. I tried to convince her, but she threatened to throw them in the pigstry." the eunuch kowtowed to the ground in front of the young prince, only for him to raise him up and chuckle in amusement. "Don't worry, it's fine. I'll just bring them to mother and ask her for advice. This is no ordinary girl I'm dealing with."
And this way, his mother advised him to find rare healing-related books, even more so, from the West, and gift them to her. She immediately accepted them, and Yin Zhen often found the mysterious girl reading by the wisteria tree, unbothered by anything and anyone.
The 4th prince often looked at her and got reminded of his annoying 3rd prince brother, but at least she wasn't so obsolete and dissolute like him.
He would find her occasionally swinging in the Apricot garden, where it was mostly quiet and very few people visited, and even so, he would often hear her practicing flute-playing.
The next Prince she met was, to Yin Zhen’s entertainment and slight jealousy, was the 3rd Prince, Yin Zhi, as she was delivering medicine to one of the Imperial Concubines, the foreign melodious tune of an instrument she has never heard of before, and as expected, her curiosity led her directly to this Prince who seemed just a bit older than her, standing under a tree and practicing said instrument.
The girl could only stay there in awe, the wonderful melody taking over her senses and imagination, only for a sudden screech to destroy everything, making her yelp in shock. The jerk of a Prince made the bow unceremoniously scratch the violin’s strings, making a God Forsaken ear-bleeding noise.
“Hope you enjoyed that as well, stalker.” the prince sneered at her, but to his surprise, she merely chuckled. “Wonderful how such an elegant instrument can create hellish sounds in the wrong hands. Only someone hardworking, dedicated and with grace can play this instrument. You are a Prince, aren’t you?” she leaned on the tree, a knowing smirk on her face. “If you figured that out, then why aren’t you bowing to the ground right now?” the aggressiveness displayed in his voice and words seemed to contradict his actions as he sat down at the table, where neatly drawn blueprints and parts to be engineered with. “I can accept the consequences of my mistake and I even won’t protest, should you want to take my head off, should you be so kind as to explain to me the process of building this wonderful instrument. It is a Western one, is it not?” she sat down next to him, analysing the papers carefully. “What would some lowly maid like you know of Western technology? Why should I waste my time on you?” he scoffed, looking down at her. “Do you not find sharing such groundbreaking information with someone genuinely interested to be rather... Enlightening? From my short stay here, in the Palace, I have found out that the 2nd Prince is rather dissolute and promiscuous, but at the same time, a very intelligent and lonely person who cannot interact with others. From the looks of it, you simply have completely different aspirations and interests, while your brothers are solely interested in this Game of Thrones, and you cannot possibly have a proper, intellectual conversation with them. Correct me if I’m wrong, however, and I will leave you alone.” that vixen-like smile on her face made the Prince want to strangle her and wipe that stupid smirk off her face for daring to figure him out so well. At the same time, however, he hasn’t felt so challenged in his life and frankly, this little maid could prove to be more interesting than expected. “I’ll have you thrown to the Office of Punishments should you dare bore me at any time after the cheeky, daring stunt you pulled. Now, you better be paying attention to every word I am about to tell you, I hate repeating myself for dumb airheads, understood?” his voice was serious and mature, especially for someone his age, but that only meant that Y/N had what to learn from him, and for that, she was grateful. “I swear to do my best and keep up with your intellectual explanations, so please, do be patient with me for I am very grateful for the time you are taking out of your schedule to teach me.” she bowed her head to him, and thus, with a soft huff, the Prince began explaining the to the girl about the peculiar instrument in his hands. “This is called a Violin, and this is called a Bow. As you guessed, this instrument was created in the West, from a country called “Italy”, in an unknown date from the 16th century. Although paintings from back then show the Violin had 3 strings, now, as you can see, it has four...” and so, he continued by showing her the component parts of the violin both on the instrument, and on the blueprints, only for him to, in the end, gift her the ink drawing he made of the original blueprint, as a way for her to promise to continue studying on her own too.
There were many other Royal Princes and Princesses, but many weren’t as interesting as the 3rd and 4th Prince who, quite frankly, were a force to be reckoned with. While Yin Zhi would teach her how to build a clock, or show her interesting literature, Yin Zhen would be adamant in taking her horse-riding and, surprisingly, he was rather interested in her healing knowledge, thus why, he would always acquire the rarest books from all over the world and, instead of giving them for the Physicians to learn, he would gift them to this lovely maid whose company he loved so much.
Time passed quickly, they got older, both Y/N and her father rapidly advanced in their ranks thanks to their revolutionary treatments that cured every illness, and the princes all grew into fine men - Which meant that the true Game of Thrones began for everyone in the palace, not just them.
The first to go down was the Crown Prince who, as Y/N discovered, had ricing powder put in his food. “It is quite simple, and unfortunately, incredibly deadly, even in small doses. All you need is the beans from a castor oil plant, you make them into powder and... You’ve got one of the deadliest poisons there are. My only guess is, it would have to have been someone from the Imperial Kitchens who could do such a feat because, if the powder was put on the dishes after being prepared, it would still be mildly visible, whereas if it was put in a big pot, it would get homogenized and thus, leave no visible or taste trace.” Y/N explained in front of the Emperor, standing poised and ignoring all the other many eyes staring at her. “I have heard many times of ricin, but none was ever brave enough to dare bring it into the Palace, especially after I have forbidden any dish to be made with Castor oil! For the poison to act, one administration was enough?” Emperor Kangxi asked, rage and sorrow evident on his face. “No, Your Majesty. I imagine that the culprit played it smart and only added small doses of ricin powder in His Highness’s food, but regularly. I have read the Medical Files from the Bureau of Imperial Physicians and I have noticed that His Highness was complaining of an upset stomach, difficulty in breathing, occasional coughs that turned bloody over time and spiking fevers - Again, all over a rather long period of time. If the culprit were to use a large dose of powder, the Princes wouldn’t have been able to finish all the food from the plate and, therefor, the Ricin would have been tenfold easier to detect. In this situation, however, small doses meant nobody would believe His Highness got sick because of the food, because of his healthy appetite, hence why he was treated symptomatically for unrelated, yet very possible diseases.” the Female Physician went on further with the deduction, which angered the Emperor even further. “These jackals won’t even allow my sons to eat anymore! From now on, every meal will have to be tested before any person from the Royal Family eats it. Find the culprit immediately!” the Emperor thundered, his voice echoing throughout the Hall of Mental Cultivation. “Your Majesty, if I may... Ricin cannot be detected with silver, and if it is put in hot meals, it wouldn’t be traceable anymore. There is no way to detect it. While ingesting the poison is admittedly the least toxic pathway into the human body... Even with a small dose, it starts to cause internal damage in as little as 6 hours after ingesting. In regular doses, death can occur in a maximum of 3 days, which means, to my understanding, that His Highness may have started being poisoned a week ago at most.” the girl spoke confidently, but also with a tint of reticence. “Are you trying to tell me there is no way of detecting the culprit?!” the man rose up from his throne, pointing his finger at her. “On the contrary. With the grace and cooperation of His Highness, the 4th Prince, a small pouch of herbs mixed with ricin powder was found in the pockets of one of the eunuchs helping at the Imperial Kitchens. That is to say... If the truth comes out that this eunuch was the one who put the powder in the food... We need a testimony and evidence that would point towards the mastermind behind this operation of regicide. His Highness was the Crown Prince and a mere eunuch wouldn’t be affected in any way by the future Emperor, however that may be, but someone who could benefit in having another candidate on the throne would get actively involved in working from the shadows...” she didn’t dare move her sight from the furious Eye of Heaven, no matter how much she wanted to avert her eyes and look at the Prince, begging to be taken away from there because the tension was crushing. “Yin Zhen!” calling out his son’s name, he stepped next to Y/N, bowed and knelt next to her. “The two of you did good in solving this crime. From now on, the two of you shall continue unmasking the truth of this mystery and bring justice to my son, the Crown Prince, got it? No matter who it is, I will have them punished!” the Emperor’s last command was abided by the two of them bowing to the ground and calling out their responses - “Yes, Your Majesty!”
And thus, the Hall of Mental Cultivation was cleared and the two people in cause walked away, looking at each other and letting out sighs of relief.
“Let’s not do that again.” the girl managed to mutter, putting the back of her hand to her forehead, exhausted from the trial. “You’re tired just from this? I was expecting a lot worse.” the Prince smirked at her, seeing her roll her eyes. “Yes, well, the Royal Family business isn’t for me. I’m fine just healing people and studying. It’s actually relaxing, you should try that once in a while.” she nudged him softly, only for him to stop in his tracks. “What if I tell you I want you to join the Royal Family.” he crossed his arms, looking at her with a playful expression. “I’d tell you... You’ve lost your mind... And that nobody would agree to something like this. I suppose I should remind you that... I am a commoner and you are, and I hope it doesn’t come as a shock to you, not only the Prince but... A very strong candidate at being the next Crown Prince.” she shook her head in amusement. “Father wants to promote you to Noble Lady Shuyu.” he refuted immediately. “Having ‘Noble’ in a title does not make you of noble birth. Don’t make it difficult for either of us, Yin Zhen. Not to mention, you would be doing me a great disservice by marrying me.” she explained, cautiously looking around for any prying eyes. “How is giving you a life of unlimited luxuries means I’m doing you a disservice?” he stepped closer to her, holding her hands to his chest. “I am jealous, first of all. Even if I am to be your main wife, which, by the way, is impossible, you would still need to have a huge amount of concubines because that is the life of a Duke and/or the Emperor, should you actually get the title. That doesn’t exactly sit amazingly well with me to begin with... And that also means I’m not exactly the most Virtuous, Selfless and King Empress that everyone would want the woman holding this title to be. That and... If I marry into the Royal Family, I won’t be able to continue my Physician work, and I will only have to stay inside a stupid, but nicely furnished palace, with tons of servants to do whatever the hell I want and many more other women who will be jealous of me and will plot to kill me. Ah, yes and the unfortunate case of you getting bored of me for a younger girl, when we get older, but that’s just that.” she got her hands back, and smiled at him sarcastically. “You’re an impossible woman, you know that, right? If you do, you should also know that, for you, I would give up the title of Crown Prince. If I am a duke, then it shouldn’t matter if I marry one woman alone, and whether or not she continues her hobby of healing people in a palace far away from the Forbidden City, where there would be no envious eye that would wish you harm. How does that sound.” his words were soft and gentle, and with every sweet word, he could see the girl’s defenses lowering down, bit by bit. “You would be an idiot to turn down the title you worked so hard for, especially after this perfect opportunity has just knocked on our doors. Don’t be stupid, Yin Zhen. I can still love you even if we are not legally married. Listen, we both know the 2nd Prince is the culprit, right? Him and his lousy mother of his, who wants to become the next Empress. I have a plan to take both of them down, and if we succeed, your place on the throne is automatically... But we have to be very smart about it. Very, very smart. Are you in?” she turned to look at him, as he stepped very close to her, cupping her face and kissing her forehead. “Since when have you become so scheming?” he asked, proud and amused. “Since I have a reason to win.” she winked at him, putting her hand on his face so he could lean down and hear the plot.
Months passed, and Y/N has been as busy as ever taking care of the women of the Harem since Imperial Concubine Yu was pregnant and the Empress, the late 1st Prince’s mother, protectively took her under her wing, while the sole Female Physician was to take care of her.
Thankfully, every plan was set in motion and time flew so fast, it was unexpected that 9 months already passed and the Concubine was ready to give birth already. Unfortunately for her, the Empress, along with the Empress Dowager, were away to pray for Buddha, and thus, the Noble Consort was now the most powerful woman in the Harem, and able to take decisions in place of the Empress.
As Y/N helped the Concubine give birth, to her shock, she realised the baby was very much yellow - But not only the little prince’s body, but his eyes as well. It caused a lot of shock and stir ups... But the unfortunate timing of arrival of the Noble Consort was enough to grab the baby from the midwife’s hands and toss is carelessly to the eunuchs who was digging a hole in the backyard of the Empress’s palace, to bury the infant alive, while the poor Concubine mother was frantically trying to escape the grasp of the eunuch keeping her away so she could rescue her baby.
But it was in vain, and no matter how much the mother begged, the Consort was absolutely ruthless. She was digging into the dirt, trying to rescue her child, but all of the Empress’s maids were uselessly staring, frightened and very much afraid for their lives.
Smartly, Y/N went inside the Empress’s palace and took her seal - As she ran back to the scene of the crime and yelled at the Consort to end this mess.
“The golden seal of the Empress is here! Enough of this mess! Yes, the infant has golden eyes, but the truth is, this might just be a medical problem, and we cannot know for sure if it is not investigated! Under such context, we must wait for Her Highness the Empress to make the decision! Noble Consort, I have begged you again and again to cease your actions, but I have no other way of stopping you. Seeing this golden seal is like seeing Her Highness the Empress herself, whether the 17th Prince is indeed sick, and how Noble Lady Yu should be dealt with, we must all wait for the decree of Her Highness the Empress. Any other person isn’t allowed to take any arbitrary action!” as Y/N glared angrily at the Noble Consort, showing off the Imperial Box that was hiding the Empress’s seal, the well known voice of the Eunuch announcing his Majesty’s arrival resounded through the place. “What happened?” the Emperor asked, followed by the 2nd, 3rd and 4th  Princes. “Greeting His Majesty. Your Majesty, the little prince was born with golden pupils. His whole body is yellow. The Empress isn’t in the palace. I’m enforcing the palace law on her behalf. I was just about to punish the mother and child, but who knew that the servants of Changchun Palace would publicly stop me.” the Consort threw a shady look at the Physician. “Your Majesty, I dare not hinder Noble Consort in implementing the law. It’s just that Her Highness the Empress repeatedly instructed that we all must protect Noble Lady Yu. Before the Empress returns, no one is allowed to make punishments without permission. Moreover, whether the little prince is indeed sick or not, as a Physician, I must advise everyone not to make conclusions based solely on what we see. There was no time for me, or any of my colleagues to check the health of the little prince, therefor, this may all just be an unfortunate misunderstanding, not a bad omen. The action of Her Highness the Noble Consort is too hasty.” Y/N confidently explained the problem for the Emperor. “You wench, how dare you speak ill of my mother?!” the new Crown Prince, the 2nd Prince, rushed forward to slap the girl’s face angrily. “Father, there is nothing impossible in this vast world. I, who has been studying various Western practices would know that what we may consider impossible or strange, other would deem normal, and vice versa. It may just be as the Female Physician says - That the 17th Prince’s golden pupils are just because of some strange illness that, if treated, will disappear.” the 3rd Prince stuck up to the girl. “Your Majesty, my child surely has some weird illness! I beg you, Your Majesty, I beg you to immediately have him treated.” the mother’s pleas melted the Emperor’s heart. “Li Yu.” the Emperor called out his head eunuch. “Call the Imperial Medical College for a consult. And find out if Physician Y/N’s father returned from his trip abroad.” and thus, the Emperor called everyone in cause once again to the Hall of Mental Cultivation to hear the testimonies and make a decision.
Two elder doctors came inside the Palace and reported their explanations to the Emperor, while the poor, desperate mother was thrown out of the room so she could calm down and stop shrieking.
“I’ve seen a lot of babies with yellowish faces, but I’ve never seen a case where the pupils are also golden yellow.” one of them explained. “Is there no way to cure him?” Yin Zhen asked the Physicians. “This is not an illness, so there is no way to cure it. There is no such thing as a child with golden pupils in this world.” Physician Zhang answered adamant. “I know Your Majesty is unwilling to do it, but if we don’t resolve it today, if the sun rises tomorrow, the news that a Noble Lady of the Forbidden Palace has given birth to a child with golden pupils will spread to the empire as if it has wings. I fear that people will be in panic and it will be hard to handle the consequences. Hence, I hardened my heart, all for Your Majesty’s sake, for the Qing Empire. Even if everyone will blame me for it, I won’t mind. Your Majesty, why are you still  hesitating?” the dead silence that followed was, as if on cue, disturbed by the baby’s cries. With a hurried smile, Y/N hurried to take the baby in her arms and kneel in front of the Emperor. “Your Majesty, look! Although the little prince is yellowish all over, his cry is very strong! Your Majesty, he is a live person and he is connected with Your Majesty by blood! How could you kill him so easily?!” Y/N spoke quickly, hoping to appeal to the Emperor’s soft heart strings. “Isn’t the Empress to kind? Indulging a mere physician to act like this? When your masters are talking, how could you interfere?!” the Noble Consort harshly reprimanded the girl. “I recognize my mistakes, however, as a Physician myself, while it is true that I do not know everything in this world, I can also say that I had my fair share of travelling, albeit, not as much as my father. The yellowing of the body may as well be jaundice, especially if we take into account the severity of the colour. In some texts that I have read, it is said that, on rare occasions, if the jaundice is severe, it may even affect the colour of the eyes. Your Majesty, I have no reason to work against anyone. My work is to heal people, which is why I am fighting so hard to save this child - Not only because he is Your Majesty’s child, but because all lives must be treasured and treated with great importance. If this child is sick and I can cure him, than I have done my purpose in life.” the girl gritted her teeth, trying to control herself. “Father, can’t you see you’ve been indulging this wench for far too long? You give a common wench a helping hand, and now look how unruly and disruptive she is! Speaking back to her superiors! Shameless!” the Crown Prince growled at the girl who was incriminating his mother. “Father, if I may - As Physician Y/N said, all of our Imperial Physicians have been working only inside the palace for so long. If a strange illness occurs, they may have no knowledge of that, perhaps even outside of the usual textbooks. If I understood correctly, Y/N father has returned to the palace just yesterday, perhaps his opinion will be of use, should this simply be a case of misdiagnosis.” the 4th Prince quickly defended her. “Nonesense! Could a distinguished Imperial Physician of the Imperial Medical College have less knowledge and experience than a common maid like you with no proper training or education?” Physician Zhang scoffed at her. “Your Majesty, although I’m well-versed in children’s illnesses, there is nothing truly impossible in this vast world. Maybe there are still a lot of strange illnesses that I’ve never had a chance to be in contact with. Many Physicians tried to get rid of the plague, but only Physician Liyue was able to do it, a common man from outside the Palace with no former education. Just because we haven’t seen it, doesn’t mean it can’t exist.” Physician Yang spoke modestly. “Physician Yang, are you old and muddled?! A matter that you yourself isn’t sure of, you dare report it to His Majesty?! If a problem indeed occurs, a natural calamity or a human-made disaster, can you bare the crime? No. Your Majesty, this concerns the fortune of the Qing Empire. You mustn’t be soft-hearted.” the Noble Consort quickly responded as harsh as ever.
However, just as she said that, Y/N’s father clumsily stepped inside the room and knelt next to his daughter, greeting the Emperor who, in haste, told him to check the child.
In doing so, he merely smiled and said the same diagnosis as his daughter did.
Jaundice.
“Can’t be. Not like I haven’t seen jaundice in children before.” Physician Zhang refuted immediately. “That’s because you are lacking in knowledge. Your Majesty, this jaundice, even if it’s not treated, the little prince would recover within 7 days. This illness is pathological and related to the bile of the expectant mother. It is usually connected with the pregnant mother having too much accumulation of bile.” the father explained. “Your daughter gave the same diagnosis.” the Emperor muttered. “Can it be cured?” “Your Majesty, don’t worry. If I prescribe a formula to reduce the jaundice, in less than 2 weeks, the 17th prince’s jaundice will subside.” and thus, the Emperor ordered to have the child be treated with care...And the Consort changed sides as much as her face changed instantly.
And thus, the Emperor forgave the Consort and had this matter be banned from being talked of...Until the 4th Prince spoke up.
“Father, before we leave, I had urgent news to speak to you about, and they concern the Noble Consort.” the Prince left his father’s side and stepped in front of him, next to Y/N. “Is this about your brother’s death?” the Emperor’s face became grim as soon as he saw the nod of the prince’s head. “Very well, speak.” “Su Peisheng, have the body brought in.” the Prince ordered. “Noble Consort, you are not afraid when you kill a man, so why are you afraid when you see a corpse?” the Prince asked, simply, as he took off the sheet to show off the man’s face. “Do you not recognise him? Or perhaps, your son does?” the Prince interrogated the indignant woman. “What are your implications, Yin Zhen?!” the Crown Prince stomped in front of his brother. “Your Mayesty, this is the Mongolian chef from the Imperial Kitchen. While he is also the one who cooked food for Noble Lady Yu, he is also the one who prepared the daily Mongolian treat that the 1st Prince enjoyed so much.” Yin Zhen spoke up confidently. “That’s right... Your Majesty, I have taken care of Noble Lady Yu since the beginning of her pregnancy, and pretty early on, Noble Lady Yu was gifted Mongolian scones from her hometown. She loved them so much, I imagine she ate quite a lot. She said she had no idea there was a Mongolian chef in the Palace and she was incredibly happy to see that she could eat her home food after so long. She would eat three pieces every day - At least that’s what I saw, if she ate more when I wasn’t supervising her, I cannot know.” the Physician girl explained as she stood up, tall and ready for action. “Your Majesty, I had these scones be brought here as well.” the 4th Prince spoke and a scone was given to Y/N’s father. “Do you know what they are made of?” her father asked as he took a bite. “I believe milk was added to the dough, or ghee to the skin. She also ate assorted confectionary to replace staple food.” Y/N told her father. “Yes, I understand. Your Majesty, the child contracted jaundice mostly because the mother’s body is moist and hot, so the bile gets accumulated. I usually advise pregnant women to watch their food intake and not to eat too much sweet, hot and unpleasant smelling food, to prevent damage to the spleen and stomach.” Physician Liyue explained. “Ah, I understand. I didn’t give it much thought because Mongolian women are used to eating these things, but since she’s been away from home for so long, her body adjusted to our food, so naturally, getting a large intake of food from home again made her body react as ours would.” Y/N nodded in understanding. “Very well, so we have found out the truth behind the Prince’s illness. Now, Yin Zhen, tell me about the body. Who killed him.” the Emperor urged his son to speak. “We just have to look at who wanted the 17th Prince buried alive the most and we will know. And on who benefits the most in having our 1st Prince brother killed.” Yin Zhen explained. “That man is dead, brother. On what bases are you accusing me and my mother?” the Crown Prince sneered at his younger brother. “Your Majesty, the 17th Prince was just born, he is just an innocent child. Why would anyone want him dead? Unless... Someone didn’t want him to be born safely to begin with. Carefully thinking about it, since Noble Lady Yu got pregnant, Her Highness the Noble Consort has repeatedly made things difficult for her. First, using her dog to cause her trauma at the Imperial Gardens, and then repeating the same feat at the Lychee banquet organized by Her Highness the Empress. When Noble Lady Yu gave birth, the first person to charge in Changchun Palace was also Her Highness the Noble Consort. She insisted on having the 17th Prince buried alive. To say that this matter has nothing to do with her, it’s really hard for anyone to believe that.” Y/N accused the Consort, only to be, once again, slapped by her son. “Father, this is a conspiracy, don’t listen to the lies of this servant! It is a plot made to frame me and my Royal Mother!” the Crown Prince desperately tried to defend himself. “Father, if this is a conspiracy, why then everyone else asked for a Physician to be brought and inspect the 17th Prince’s condition, while only the Noble Consort alone was so adamant in killing the child?” Yin Zhen struck again. “Not to mention, even when Noble Lady Yu went up to her to stop her, she didn’t spare her. Instead, she ordered her to be killed along with the child. If she truly had no intention to kill, why was she so hasty and resolute?” Y/N chimed in quickly. “Your Majesty, you cannot sentence myself or the Crown Prince merely just based on a corpse and some speculations! This person is dead, who knew if someone else forced him to kill himself as to frame me and my son?” the Noble Consort shrieked desperately. “Father, when I sent my men to the Imperial Kitchen, they discovered one letter written in blood and 20 taels of gold. It shows that this person had sensed that something bad would happen to him. Father, look for yourself at the evidence left behind.” and thus, the eunuch brought forth a messy letter and the Prince showed it to the Emperor -” 'The person who will silence me will surely be the Crown Prince’ - And with this, father, we found a small pouch of Ricin laying on top of it. It means that the culprits behind these two crimes that we thought unrelated are, in fact, mother and son.” the 4th prince explained, picking up the pouch as well. “Wh-What?! What is this madness? I would ever use such a stupid servant to kill my brother!” the Crown Prince yelled out, but it was in vain. “Not only that, testimonies from the Office of Punishments came out. The men from the Imperial Kitchens that were involved in either of these crimes, all ratted out their mastermind and all point out towards either Noble Consort or the 2nd Prince.” the Prince continued, and the atmosphere in the place was harder and harder to bear. “Your Majesty! Your Majesty, it really wasn’t like this! I really didn’t know! I’m being framed! Framed! Me... My son...! We’re being framed!” the Consort tried to beg, plea and weep, but nothing worked. “ENOUGH! I don’t want to hear any more explanations from you. You killed my beloved son out of greed, just for you to become the next Crown Prince. I have overlooked so many of your mistakes and evidence of a possible coup... You were already the Crown Prince, what more did you want?! Shameless, both of you! Men, take them away! Both of them shall be thrown into the Cold Palace until further notice!” the Emperor’s rage seethed fear into everyone, as they bid his order, uncaring of the two’s desperate pleas. “Yin Zhen, you did well. Although a tragic truth, I was expecting this. As the matter of a new Crown Prince has to be instilled, I will make the final Imperial Edict tomorrow... However, you must know that you are the chosen one. I only wish that you do not act as carelessly and shamelessly as your brother did.” the Emperor sighed, feeling older than ever. “Father...I...! Your Majesty, you are magnanimous, I do not know how to thank you.” the Prince kowotowed to the ground, only to hear a weak chuckle from his father. “Rise, no need for that. Physician Y/N, you and your father once again saved us with your vast knowledge and expertise. I shall grant you both the title of Noble Officials of the Third Rank and shall enjoy all the benefits and luxuries that come with it. You have served me well and I am sure you will continue to do so in the future as well. You are all dismissed.” the Emperor said as everyone bowed to greet him off. “That worked better than expected.” the Prince smirked, looking down at the stunned girl. “Am I a genius or what?” she spoke breathlessly before starting to laugh in glee. “Dear, I have no idea what silly thing you plotted while I was away, but... I have to say, you pulled quite the stunt.” her father patted her hair lovingly. “I suppose once in a while I do like to have some dangerous fun, huh? Good thing I have two Royal Helping Hands to take me out of the water should I suddenly forget to swim.” she grinned carelessly, only for her father to shake her head, smiling. “Just be careful. Although... I am sure you will be protected. I will take my leave now.” and with a small bow, the left the three alone. “Was any of that true?” the 3rd Prince eyed the two carefully. “Well... She really did want to kill the baby by burying it alive. The rest was... Induced or fabricated. But nobody has to know, right? It’s all our dirty little secret.” the girl winked at him and, taking the 4th Prince’s hand, pulled him outside. “How does it feel being a Noble Lady?” the Prince chuckled, pulling her close to his chest and smiling warmly. “None the wiser.” she snorted in amusement. “Honestly, Yin Zhen, it’s just a title. It’s not like anyone is going to care in any way. I am still going to be just a common girl with no right to stay anywhere close to you. Besides, you know as well as I do that, in the very small chance that the Emperor does accidentally impregnate a common maid and he wives her, she is still going to be treated poorly and will be bound to the Back Palace alone. You know as well as I do that nobody is allowed to enter the Back Palace so freely. I don’t want any of that.” she spoke, cautiously. “If I am going to be the Emperor, that mean the whole China is going to be mine. It doesn’t matter which woman is my Empress, as long as all the other concubines are there for political reasons. All they care about is wealth, fame and luxuries for their families, but none care for me the way you do. You saved me from drowning when you had no idea who I was, and you rejected any gift I gave you that wasn’t useful for your education. I know you don’t want to be pretentious or have me think that you love me solely for luxuries but that does not mean I should be forbidden from pampering you whenever I feel like it. Just accept it. I do not want any other woman to stay in the Empress’s throne besides me other than you. Don’t deny me that, Y/N.” he cupped her face, making her look up at him, his eyes tender and filled with love. “I can’t do it, Yin Zhen. I can’t. I can’t let you damage your image. You will be the best Emperor China’s ever had, you cannot have a common peasant woman be the Mother of the Nation. You will found a woman to genuinely love you and care for you as much as I do, and she will be worthy of you, and of noble blood... And you will forget about me, and I will no longer inconvenience you. You will be just fine without me, Yin Zhen.” her eyes gleaming, close to tears, as she spoke those painful words, but the prince had none of that. “I will have none of that modesty and selflessness of yours. Keep that to yourself. I am going to be the Emperor. The Eye of Heaven. If I cannot even choose the woman I love to be my Empress, than what’s the point in being diligent in everything else? No matter how hard working you are, at the end of the day, you need to have clarify and peace from your confidante, and for me, that is you. I will hear no more of your excuses, I will solve all of them. In fact, I know just how you can get the ultimate approval from my father, as if everything you’ve done so far over the years hasn’t been enough. In a month, the palace will hold a banquet for the Princess of Western Liang and her Diplomatic Corp. I trust you and you alone to accompany me to this. I know it’s not something you are used to, but I will prepare people to teach you the basic according skills needed. This is all you’re going to need to do, and it will impress Father without a doubt. Please, Y/N. Do it for me. Do it for us. I want to marry you and love you. I want to see you dressed in the most gorgeous Empress dress, to have you by my side at the coronation, to see you smile as I put accessories in your hair. I want to see you happy, and I want to see you by my side every day and every night. Screw the rules, the Emperor can do as he pleases in his private time.” the fire inside Yin Zhen’s heart seemed to reach the girl for she merely smiled and, with an unexpected turn of events, she threw her hands around his neck and pulled him down into a deep kiss. “You better abide your own words, otherwise this Empress is going to drive her new hair pin into your jugular vein and have you assassinated in your sleep.” she muttered with a teasing smirk. “That’s the Y/N I love.” and with that, he pulled her into another, and yet another kiss, with as much fire, love and passion as the previous ones.
For the whole month, the girl, getting used to servants and new luxuries in her home, trained in all the skills Yin Zhen’s servants thought necessary, as to become a proper Noble Lady and, as he would always say, His Empress.
As she was practicing her walking on heels through the palace, her maid, Shi Lian, seemed to be in quite the mood for chatting, telling her that the Western Liang delegation came by just earlier that day and that they are carrying this beautiful, exotic precious unique hairpin. However, unexpectedly, a huge crowd started gathering all around the two and the people started pulling and pushing around aimlessly, creating a huge commotion, making her fall on the street. Thankfully, just as she was about to get crashed by an incoming carriage horse, she felt lifted up.
“Are you injured?” the sweet voice of the man who so heroically rescued her called out, brushing a strand of hair from her face as he protectively held her waist. “Thanks to you, I am. Are you my guardian angel or what? I can’t believe how perfectly you arrived to save me.” she put her hand to her chest, trying to calm down. “I had orders to greet the corp. You silly... It’s great fate that I’m here. I’ll bring you back and send for an Imperial Physician to look after you.” he spoke strictly, only for the curtains of the carriage to be harshly drawn away and a glaring woman to stick her head out of the window. “4th Prince, are you going to leave me and the envoys of Western Liang behind?” she scolded in an evil way. “...Yin Zhen, I am alright, I promise. Shi Lian is with me. You said it yourself, this banquet is important, you cannot leave. Go attend your business. I insist.” the girl looked him deep into his eyes, knowing that they always understood each other from their looks. “Fine. But I will leave a guard behind to escort you home. Take care, Y/N.” and thus, with one last look, he left, as Y/N could only smile at how caring and attentive her hero is.
The silly man, however, as expected, dotted so much on her that he called her own father to care for her.
“Miss, looks like 4th Prince really cares about you! Ah, before I forget, the Matron has a massage for you. This afternoon, the Princess of Western Liang will be visiting the Imperial Palace and you are designated as her retinue.” Shi Lian’s sweet and innocent smile quickly disappeared. “Oh... Great. I have to take care of a bitch. May the Heaven watch over me.” Y/N muttered as she leaned her head on her father’s shoulder. “I heard she is pretty aggressive. She’d bully maidens without excuses. She’s fearsome... Miss, you have to be more careful.” the maid held her master’s hands, looking worried at her. “Don’t worry, I can do it. If this is the last step towards success, not even all the torture Wu Zetian went through can stop me.” Y/N’s voice was low, dark and dangerous. She was like a fearsome lioness ready to strike and maul anyone approaching her cub.
The next afternoon, after dressing is soft and demure looking clothes, Y/N went to show the Princess around the Imperial Palace. The load of exotic jewelry would blow away anyone’s mind, but she wasn’t interested in anything except for the fine craftmanship and the great detail put into everything.
“Ah, it’s you who was saved by 4th Prince yesterday morning outside the palace! To think 4th Prince would ignore me because of a slave girl!” the Princess stared at her condescendingly. “I am but a humble Palace maid. Surely 4th Prince would pay his undivided attention to you, Princess.” the girl bowed respectfully in front of the Princess. “I’d love to see what you’ve got! I heard the Tea ceremony of the Great Qing is extraordinary. Blow away my mind!” the Princess ordered immediately.
Thanking Yin Zhen for having all his servants meticulously teach her every art needed, Y/N proceeded in preparing the Tea Ceremony in such an elegant and graceful manner that the Princess was greatly jealous.
“She’s just a slave girl! In what position is she compared with me? Somebody drive her away, I don’t like her!” however, just as she was throwing her tantrum, Yin Zhen’s eunuch came by to invite Y/N to the banquet.
With a smile on her face, she went back to her home to change in the outfit prepared by the 4th Prince himself, and at dusk, when the glowing sunset brought out Yin Zhen’s most handsome features, she saw him. Tiredness was painted on his face.
“Yin Zhen... You look exhausted. Will you be alright?” she asked softly, cautiously raising her hand to caress his face. “I will be, yes. I am merely worried about you... But seeing you like this lifted all my worries. You are the most beautiful woman in the world.” saying so, he caressed her hand, kissing it.  “I have to look my best when standing besides the most handsome man in the world, correct?” she winked cheekily at him, and thus, they went together inside the palace where the banquet was taking place.
There were songs, and dances, and just about anything you could expect - And there, on display, the precious hairpin of Western Liang, the jewel inlaid to it glistening mesmerisingly.
Seeing her confused look, he explained that the envoys are willing to part with the hairpin as a tribute only if they pass several tests. As it was a matter o Great Qing’s reputation, His Majesty couldn’t possibly refuse.
“Three tests and the hairpin is ours? How arrogant. No matter, I’m sure we can beat them.” the girl scoffed, standing besides Yin Zhen’s seat.
The first test, as expected, was Music. Western Liang sends out an envoy adept in music. The test is rather prompt to the palace and no one is prepared for that, so no one responds. Truly, perhaps she was a master at playing Pipa, and she was beautiful too, but that was not to say some intimidation wouldn’t work on the arrogant and prideful Western Liang.
“How do you like this song, Your Highness?” the girl asked, a proud smile on her face. “Very well. Your pipa is superbly crafted.” the Emperor spoke, making the girl frown, indignant. “You only complimented the pipa. Does that mean you don’t like the song?” the girl asked, offended. “That is an understatement. Though I am not an expert, I can tell the song you played was ingenious. However, and pardon me for being blunt, your skill is quite ordinary.” the 4th Prince commented, making Y/N bite her lip to stop herself from chuckling. “This is the Number 1 ancient tune from Western Liang. Few people in Qara-Hoja can play it. The way I play it is considered sound from Heaven.” the girl was angrily gripping her pipa. “Sound from Heaven? That’s an overstatement! I might as well tell you, a song like that, any Palace maid in the Qing Empire can play.” and thus, Y/N walked forward, holding the beautiful wine pot, as if to serve the pipa player. “Any? Any maid at all? Fine, can YOU play it?” the girl asked, volcanic-like. “No really... But the song you played... I’ve been practicing it since childhood.” and thus, Y/N sat down in place of the Western Liang pipa player and played her own tune with perfect dexterity. “If a Palace Maid can play it, why am I here?” and thus, the first win was awared to the Qing Empire.
With a modest bow, Y/N went back by Yin Zhen’s side, and to the trained eye, it was obvious the both of them were radiating with pride for one another.
The second test is about Poetry. Western Liang’s envoy is rather accomplished in literature, however, no one can defeat Yin Zhen’s outstanding talent.
“Y/N, you write for me. You have beautiful calligraphy and can write fast enough. I trust you.” and thus, the two of you sit down at a table in the middle of the banquet - Yin Zhen pours out elegant line after line, as Y/N carefully writes down the love poem that, no doubt was dedicated to her. An hour elapses and neither admits defeat. No one dares to even breathe heavily, fearing they might disturb the two poets.
Despite everyone’s concentration, the ink maid’s hand trembles just enough to pour ink all over Y/N’s paper and clothes.  “What’s your problem?!” Y/N gasped from shock at being covered by the black liquid. “Pardon me, I didn’t mean it!” the maid nonchalantly says as she bows to the groud. “I saw it perfectly. That maid didn’t mean it... But the maid that writes has got such a temper!” unable to say anything, Y/N looked at the Prince who allowed her to quickly go change into another outfit, just as beautiful and chosen by him, and return. That Princess was going to be roasted pork very soon. “Careless as that maid is, this one is only too stupid. They both should be punished, or that’s unfair for 4th Prince.” the evil Princess sneered. “Western Liang is nowhere near the sea, but I have a feeling the Princess of Western Liang lives by the sea.” Yin Zhen retorted immediately. “What does that mean?” the Princess asked, confused, only for Y/N to smirk at her beloved’s silver, witty tongue. To think that this Bitchy Princess would trouble herself with a sea of trivials, despite her affections for him. “Your Highness, I am willing to make up for my mistake and write down what 4th Prince just composed, not missing a single word.” and so she did, shocking the Princess with her fantastic memory and even more, her elegant calligraphy. And thus, Yin Zhen gets easily the 2nd win.
The two then needed a break and went outside, to look at the beautiful moon and feel the chilly breeze of Spring. Y/N, without a care, leaned on Yin Zhen’s, sighing content.
“I know I’m amazing, but to think some bitchy Princess would get jealous of me... That’s something else.” Y/N muttered, clinging lazily on his sleeve. “I know she has ill-intentions towards you. That maid, my men have been tracing her. She is working for the Princess to frame you.” the Prince spoke, aggravated. “Well, good for her. She couldn’t beat us. We are the true perfect match of Heaven and Earth. Nothing can keep us apart.” Y/N scoffed at the lame princess’s intentions, making the Prince chuckle.  “Fearless as always. You are incredible.” he commented, simple, but effective. “Oh, you should see yourself, my darling. Do you know what the 3rd test is about?” she asked, only to see him shake his head. “Not sure yet, no. But whatever it is, I fear the Princess would want to be the one to compete against you. She’s just that petty.” the Prince explained, only for a servant to call the two inside.
Apparently, the Princess decided that the last test would be, lo’ and behold, Dancing. It was perfect. She knew just what to do.
“I am just a maid. Never have I thought I’d have the privilege to compete against Her Highness, the Princess of Western Liang.” Y/N bowed in front of the Princess gracefully, only for the Princess to sneer arrogantly. “You don’t deserve it! However... You played a part in the two previous tests. I’d like to see if you really have what it takes, or you are just borrowing help from the 4th Prince. So? You dare not?!” the Princess raised her voice aggressively. “I do have nothing that’s worth mentioning... However, I do believe that dancing should be one of my strengths. Allow me to change into the appropriate outfit for dancing and I shall show you, Your Highness.” and thus, Y/N quickly left the banquet to change into a beautiful Tang dynasty pink outfit the flowed like water around her, highlighting her featured delicately. Her hair, she had the top part in a bun, with beautiful golden hair pins decorated with agate and pearls, and wore agate earrings as well. On her face, despite the gorgeous make up, she had a half mask, outstandingly embellished with different precious gems that would sparkle brighter than the whole Western Liang.
Y/N watched the Princess dancing first - A rather basic dance, beautiful, yet, but of no fantastic feat. Despite all this, all envoys seem to think very little the little Physician girl, and even His Majesty and his Ministers seem to show little faith in her. Understandable, she thought, considering that all her life she strayed away from luxuries and feminine arts and studies.
“Do you see? Looks like you are just a slave girl to everyone! You don’t deserve the competition against me!” the Princess laughed, taunting the girl, who merely smiled. “Then, Your Highness might want to be careful... Because losing to me... It’s really mortifying.” and thus, hearing the Prince reassuring his father that she will win without a doubt, Y/N proceeded in dancing the most beautiful dance.
Lanling Prince in Battle.
Throughout the month, she has been perfecting this dance in front of Yin Zhen, and it was his favourite. Such a tragic love story, of two lovers, their hearts and souls united in life and in death, no matter what. A love story of a woman loving a man so much that she would even march to war to bring him back. A love story of a man so tormented by his wife’s death that he goes insane and destroys everything in his path.
The half mask, symbolizing the beautiful features of the man, and the beautiful face of the woman, a dance that symbolizes their feelings, their love, themselves, the fate, their life - A single dance, a single person, symbolizing two soulmates.
It was the perfect dance, and it was to no wonder that this was their favourite dance... To dance together. Although it was a dance for one person alone, Yin Zhen could never resist embracing her and dancing with her. He couldn’t resist touching her and holding her up in his graces as if she was a Goddess.
It took every ounce of strength the Prince had not to join her in the dance, but as she finished, everyone was so in awe that they forgot to breathe, only to then burst into cheerful and loud applause.
“I... Lost? No... No way... How...?” the Princess was shocked as if by lightning. Absolutely horrified that a slave girl was infinitely better than her. “Do tell me how the Prince helped me here.” Y/N smirked condescendingly at the Princess who started growling. “Y-You...! How dare you?! A stupid slave girl, speaking back to me?! You deserve to be punished!” the Princess started wagging her finger accusatory at her. “Like you wanted to punish the maid who deliberately threw ink on the poem paper, realizing that Western Liang cannot, in this world, beat the Princes genius? Is this what Western Liang has to do to win? Cheat and frame? How ridiculous and disappointing.” Y/N shrugged simply, walking by the 4th Prince’s side. “Your Majesty! She wants me to call white black and even sow discord between the two nations! Justice be served, Your Majesty!” the maid shrieked, pointing at Y/N, as the girl sighed, taking off the mask. “I’m the bad guy now, huh?” she muttered, rolling her eyes. “I got my people, and you don’t have the right to an opinion here. You are from Western Liang.” the Prince, having made a secret investigation earlier, seemed to have enough evidence to get those two into trouble, but now enough to actually create a war. “As virtue rises one foot, vice rises ten. Prince, you are incredible. The maid was going to make you trip. If you had, no matter how beautiful you danced, there was no way you would have won. Still, you were as beautiful as ever. Congratulations, you are the reason behind Qing’s wins. I told you I know why I have faith in you completely.” he praised as he poured her a cup of wine, making her seat next to him and celebrate their win, as the Princess is taken out of the palace to receive punishment when she returns home.
And thus, Western Liang not only lose all 3 tests, but they are also completely humiliated by their Princess’s cheating, and present the hairpin, shamefully.
“Son, you earned this hairpin, I will confer it upon you!” the Emperor handed the hairpin to his son, who bowed his head as a thanks. “I thank you, Royal Father. However, may I ask for another grace? To give it to someone else?” he asked, as the Emperor laughed. “Now that I’ve given it to you, it’s totally up to you.” and thus, as Yin Zhen opens the delicately embellished box, he takes out the hair pin, walking in front of Y/N. “Come here. I promised I will be the one to put accessories in your hair. You earned this, my love.” he said as he put his hand on her waist, kissing her forehead. “U-Uh... Yin Zhen... Everyone is looking at us.” Y/N muttered bashfully, unable to look at him. “Good. I want them to know that you are my wife, and my future Empress, and that if anyone even dares to think of laying a finger on you, they are going to be brutally disposed of.” he smiled sweetly, lifting her chin up with his finger. “Very bold, doing that in front of even your Father. Very good. What a wonderful husband I have.” she chuckled lightly as she was guided outside, to watch the fireworks show. “I already told him I want to marry you. Wasn’t much he could say after today’s wonderful wins. I have to say, you are really good at making people do what you want.” Yin Zhen chuckled lightly, bringing the girl to his chest. “You know what I think? That you talk too much and that you should kiss your wife more often. How’s that sound, My Darling Emperor?” Y/N smirked like a vixen. “I love the sound of that... My Little Physician Empress.”
Cataegis (n.) Latin word meaning tempestuous storm
Part I Part II
Power.
That’s what he felt.
There was no denying the waves of it that rolled off of you. It…confused him if he was being honest. He tried to make sense of it all, but there were so many factors to consider that it sent him reeling.
He sighed and rubbed his temple, sitting back on his heels. He hadn’t felt that much power from anyone aside from Anakin. The thought made him frown. During his time training Skywalker, he could sense the turbulent emotions within him. It was like a raging storm that held no end in sight. His Padawan allowed his emotions to guide him. Looking back, he realized that he should have seen the signs and snuffed them out sooner. But, he digresses.
There was no use in dwelling on things stuck in the past.
But you were right there. In front of him, and in the present.
He couldn’t figure out what the point was in the Force binding the two of you together. It was a puzzle that he didn’t have all the pieces to. And it frustrated him to no end.
She’s not a sentinel, that’s for sure, he thought to himself. So why does she conduct herself as one?
From what he knew about the training of temple Sentinels, you had gone through no such thing. In fact, it was incredibly rare for one of them to take a Padawan learner. The Sentinel duty seemed to be ingrained in a youngling from the day they discovered the Force. But there was something different about you.
“Master,”
He opened his eyes, turning to look at his former Padawan. “Anakin,” he greeted. He inclined his head, his golden eyes seeming to pierce the soul of the Lord approaching him. “What is it?”
“I sense a disturbance.” Anakin said with a frown. His long hair framed his face and blew in the gentle breeze. “And it’s powerful.”
Cataegis hummed in response, nodding quietly. “She is,” he muttered quietly.
Anakin arched his eyebrow, part of it marred by the scar that adorned the side of his face. “She?”
Cataegis let out a chuckle. “Yes, she.” He was loathe to the fact that he didn’t have a name to put to your infuriatingly beautiful face. “She’s becoming a rather annoying thorn in my side.”
Anakin snorted and crossed his arms. “What do you plan on doing about it.”
The blond Sith pursed his lips as he thought. Truth be told, he didn’t know. There were too many unknown factors for him to run headlong into this without a plan. He knew Anakin was usually the one to do so, but spending so much time with his former apprentice seemed to be rubbing off on him. “I…don’t know.” he admitted.
“Let me hunt her-“
“No!” Cataegis snarled at Anakin and threw him backwards, his hold tight on the other man’s throat with the Force.
Anakin grunted as his back hit the wall and he clawed at his throat momentarily before realizing his Master had full control of his body.
“You will not,” he hissed.
“Seems like you’ve found a new pet,” Anakin choked, trying to struggle against the hold Cataegis had on him.
He growled, the sound reverberating through his chest and his eyes narrowing in a primal rage. “Touch her, and you’ll have one less hand to worry about,” he snarled. “She’s not a bantha for you to hunt for sport. She’s someone more powerful than either you or me. And Force help you if I find out you’ve disobeyed me.” He let Anakin go with another growl, and the former Jedi fell to his hands and knees as he tried to suck in large breaths.
“You’ve gotten rather attached,” Anakin said as he pulled himself to his feet.
Cataegis scowled at his former apprentice. “Have care how you speak, Vader. You never know when you’re going to push me too far.”
Anakin rolled his eyes, but the threat gave him pause. Cataegis only used his Sith title when he was extremely upset with him, which wasn’t often. There must have been something awfully special about this woman for him to be so on edge. “Very well,” he said, inclining his head and acknowledging Cataegis. “But is this going to be a problem?
The former Jedi let out a huff of annoyance. “I don’t know.” he said. “There seems to be a lot about this woman that I don’t know. And I don’t like it.”
“All the more reason we need to find out who she is.”
A low rumble came from Cataegis’ chest, a hum of agreement. “True. But I don’t want you doing anything to scare her off. She’s already on edge enough as it is.”
Anakin raised an eyebrow. “Since when have you been concerned about whether someone is scared?” he asked.
Cataegis gave him another warning look. “Since the Padawan I’ve connected with is barely more than sixteen,” he snapped. “Her mind is still malleable, and there’s still a chance I can undo everything that the Jedi have taught her. But if you go scaring her off like that, there’s no telling how she’ll react. We have a difficult enough time as it is. The last thing I need is for you to tear down any work I manage to accomplish with this youngling.”
“Do you really think you’ll be able to turn her?”
He paused for a moment, thinking it over. He could sense the turmoil and fear within you. There was confusion, doubt, and surprisingly, anger. At what, he couldn’t be sure. But it surprised him nonetheless. He could sense the disturbance in your mind. If he really tried, he didn’t think it would take much for him to sway you. “I believe so,” he said, rubbing his beard as he continued to think. “I’m going to Coruscant.”
“What?!”
“Are you questioning my decision?”
“Of course I am!” Anakin defended. “You’ve absolutely lost your mind! Yoda will know as soon as you step foot on that planet. There’s know way you’ll be able to get past all of them without getting arrested. Or killed.”
Cataegis sighed and shook his head. “Such little faith, Anakin.”
~*~*~*~
After what happened with Windu, you’d been avoiding your master like the plague. He understood that you would need your space, and he left you to your own devices. For the most part, anyway.
At least he did until Yoda came looking for you.
He found you in one of the many training rooms within the temple. You’d been going at a program of Darth Maul for several hours, at least. The hologram was giving you quite the workout, you had to admit. And you could land blows and slice it to pieces without actually hurting any of your fellow padawans in a sparring session. You knew the emotions raging within you would cause a disturbance, but at that point, you didn’t care.
You didn’t understand what was happening, much less why it was happening to you of all people.
Cataegis’ golden Sith eyes stared at you every time you closed your eyes. You could feel his presence looming over you. It was as if he were right beside you the entire time.
And it unsettled you.
“Hmm…sense your anger, I do.”
You jumped at the sound of the voice that interrupted your training session. You turned on your heel and thrust out your hand. A wave of powerful force energy flew from your palm and rushed towards Yoda. Your eyes widened when you realized who it was. “Master Yoda!” you exclaimed. He saw your reaction coming before you even acted. He quickly jumped out of the way, somersaulting in the air and landing behind you in the training area.
“Mean to scare you, I did not. Sorry, I am, Padawan.” He tilted his head to the side and watched you visibly deflate. The lightsabers in your hand retreated back to their durasteel handles and you quietly hung them on your belt.
“It’s alright, Master.” you replied. “I didn’t mean to attack you.”
He let out the quiet chuckle you knew so well and shook his head. “Conflicted, you are. Resolve your issues, you must.”
You felt like throwing your hands in the air. “How do I do that, Master?” you asked. “I don’t understand what’s happening to me.”
Master Yoda hummed quietly and observed as you took up a meditation position before him. “Explain what is happening, you will.” You arched an eyebrow. You’d figured that Windu had told the Council everything that was happening with you. It would make sense for him to do so. After all, from what he said, it was highly unusual for something like this to happen. Sensing your hesitation, Yoda shook his head. “Tell the Council the details, Master Windu did not. However, like to help you, I would.”
You closed your eyes and took a deep breath. You couldn’t help the flinch that took over your shoulders when you saw his eyes staring back at you.
There’s no need to be scared, little one. His deep voice soothed. I’ll soon be with you.
You let out a gasp and opened your eyes. Yoda almost recoiled when he saw the red and gold brimming your normally bright irises.
A chuckle that wasn’t your own echoed through your head and his voice spoke once again, this time a fading whisper. Have no fear, my young apprentice. I won’t hurt you. Yet.
“Hear his voice again, you have?”
You swallowed the fear that lumped in your throat and nodded. “Yes,” you admitted.
He hummed in thought and readjusted his hold on the cane before settling himself in front of you. “Get to the bottom of this, we will. First, discover what this bond is, we must.”
The lights of the training room began to fade away as you closed your eyes and began a light meditation. You’d done something similar with Mace in the past, and you assumed Yoda would want to see exactly what it was that you saw. You were willing to show him, but that didn’t mean you had to like the invasion it would bring into your mind.
But you pushed those feelings aside and opened your mind to him. Everything came rushing forward and you let it.
Everything you were feeling pushed itself towards Yoda. And you didn’t try to stop it. All of your emotions bubbled over the surface and came spewing out like a volcano.
The waves crashed against the edges of your mental shielding, and you didn’t want to hold them back anymore.
What’s happening little one? I can feel your pain from here!
There was a note of concern that you hadn’t heard before. You almost snorted at the thought. You and you let it with a sigh of resignation.
There was no use denying it.
The Dark Side had a hold on you.
And it didn’t appear to be letting go any time soon. didn’t want to hear his voice anymore.
When you opened your eyes again, you were no longer sitting in the training room with Yoda. Instead, you found yourself on a landing platform. The night was cold and dark, and the wind ripped around and billowed your Jedi robes around you. Standing across from you…was him.
Black encompasses him like the shadows of the night, trying to swallow him whole. But the closer you looked, you realized that he was controlling the shadows. The rain pounded on the both of you, soaking you to the bone. Lightning struck the platform to your right, lighting up the area around you. His eyes flashed with the lightning, gold and beautiful.
“You!” you snarled, baring your teeth and glaring at the man.
He held up his hands in what he probably thought to be a placating gesture, but you took it as a threat. You threw your hand forward, and a powerful blast of energy flew from your fingers. Cataegis grunted and crossed his arms to block your blow.
“Get out of my head,” you snarled.
Letting out a scream, you let yourself feel the force around you. The energy flowed through you, became your blood. Everything around you became a part of you. And when you attacked him again, you attacked him with everything.
Yoda watched you with awe. His eyes were wide as a bubble of pure force energy surrounded you. He could see the waves rolling off of you, creating the field. Blue, red, and purple flowed through it like veins in a body. The sphere itself had a golden glow that pulsated with your heartbeat.
His eyes widened and he jumped from his seat as he saw you open yours.
“Get out of my head!”
An intense gold seeped into the color of your irises, intensifying the color. Energy exploded out of your body, throwing Yoda away from you and across the room.
Honesty - Kaz Brekker x reader
Request: oh hell yea "I saw we could send in requests which you don’t need to tell me twice bc I have some things in mind if that’s okay? I had an idea for a Kaz x female reader where he’s had feelings for you for the longest time but has never acted upon those feelings due to his trauma. Until one day something doesn’t go as planned during a Dregs job because his thoughts are with you and he lost his focus for just a moment. This is the moment he realises he has to talk to you about his crush on you but when he looks for you he notices you somewhere secluded in the arms of Jesper making out. How would he react to the fact that the girl he has had feelings for has been secretly dating his right hand? Lots of angst if that’s okay? 😬" Pairing: Kaz Brekker x reader (plus some slight Jesper x reader) Summary: When Kaz finally figures out his feelings for you, and wants to tell you about it, he finds something he wasn't prepared to see Warnings:  angst oh god so. much. angst. let's see what else uhh mentions of violence, bruises, language, kaz being a lil jealous jerk Word count: 2.6K A/N: this is the one yall I got this request and HA I was so ready to write some heartbreaking angst, get ready for this one (also I wasnt sure if I had to tag this as kaz x reader of jesper x reader, but as you can see I went with kaz) TAG LIST (grishaverse): @ayushmitadutta @mrs-brekker15 @dancingwith-sunflowers @thegirlwiththeimpala @parker-natasha @story-scribbler @romanoffstarkovs @daliareads @meiitanoia @itsnotquimey @sanktaesperanza @whymyparentscheckmyphone @aleksanderwh0r3 @ilovemarvelanne1 @marlenaisnthappy TAG LIST (Kaz Brekker): @mufnasa @Janesofia7 @stairscortana add yourself to my tag lists here
Because it was a one-person kind of job and it involved picking quite a few locks, Kaz told the crows to take the night off, while he took care of it.
Given that it was very rare for Kaz to tell you all that you could have the night off, neither of you was stupid enough to question it. Instead, you all wished him good luck and took off to do all those things you normally missed out on when you were away on a job.
Everyone trusted Kaz to be able to handle a simple job on his own. You'd spend enough time with him to know he'd be alright.
And he was.
It was indeed a simple job, all Kaz had to do was sneak into a merchant's home, pick the lock of the safe in the office, steal an important contract between two merchants, and get out.
Part of him liked the solitude of wandering around a big house in the dark. But another part of him wished you'd be there with him. Kaz had shook his head to get you out of his mind, and continued to do the thing he needed to do.
After successfully completing the job and getting the contract he needed, Kaz is standing in front of a closed door, listening for any sounds in the hallway on the other side of the door.
His minds wanders off to you again.
You'd wished him good luck before he walked out the door, and you'd given him one of you signature smiles. Saints, he loved your smile.
He was sure you could fix anything, all you had to do was smile at him. You comforted him in so many ways, and you probably had no idea. Though you could figure it out if you sensed something was going on.
The clues were all right there, all you had to do was find out all the times he asked for you help were all just excuses to be able to spend more time with you.
It was stupid, really. He would invite you up to his office to go over plans for a job, even though he had figured it all out already. He'd pair the two of you on jobs. He did anything to be able to spend time with you.
A cloud slowly moves through the night sky, allowing the moon to illuminate the room. The sudden light abruptly brings Kaz back to reality.
He'd been standing in front of the door for way too long, just thinking about you. He curses himself for losing his focus. For allowing himself to get so lost in his thoughts on you.
Kaz really needs to do something about it. It's almost embarrassing how starstruck he is by you. And he really can't have you distract him on a job like that again, even if you're not in the room with him.
After listening again for sounds in the hallway, Kaz slowly pushes the door open. Upon discovering the hallway is empty, he steps out of the office and makes his way to the front door of the house.
All the way back to the Slat, he's thinking of ways on how to tell you. He's never been really good at talking about his feelings. And he wants to make sure he tells you the right thing. The last thing he wants is to stutter to try and find the words to say to you.
Eventually, he settles on just getting you alone first. He'll figure out what to say after that.
The walk to the Slat takes a while, given that the Barrel is on the other side of Ketterdam. His leg starts to ache but he ignores it, he'd endured worse.
When he finally sees the Slat in the distance, he notices there are still some lights burning. The window of your room is dark. Kaz hopes you're just sitting downstairs.
But when he enters the kitchen, it's nearly empty. Except for Nina, who is sitting there having a cup of tea before bed.
'Hey!' she says. 'How'd it go?'
In response, Kaz shows her the folded piece of paper.
Nina grins. 'Told you it would be an easy job for you.' she says.
'It was.' says Kaz. 'Have you seen Y/N?'
To his surprise, Nina starts smirking.
'Oh yeah, I've seen Y/N.' says Nina. 'She went out back a while ago.'
Kaz moves to walk to the back door but Nina speaks up again.
'Kaz, I wouldn't do that if I were you.' says Nina. 'I don't think she wants anyone to see her.'
He gives her a confused look, not noticing the playful look in Nina's eyes. He then starts to worry about you. Did something happen to you? Why didn't you want anyone to see you?
Kaz quickly walks to the door and opens it, ignoring Nina who yells at him not to do so. He abruptly freezes in the doorway.
You're indeed there, but you're not alone. A tall figure, who Kaz quickly identifies as Jesper, has you pinned to the wall of the alley.
Aside from the street lamp, it's completely dark. It's hard to tell which limps belong to you and which ones belong to Jesper.
Kaz just stands there, rooted to the spot. He can't move. He just stands there, watching the girl he fell in love with kiss another man. And it's not just any other man, it's Jesper.
The cheerful sharpshooter who had been his right hand for so long. He'd been by Kaz' side for years, joining the Dregs just shortly after you had. Jesper had managed to save Kaz a number of times with his quick shooting. And now he's standing there, kissing you.
Kaz feels sick, like he's going to throw up. Like the air got knocked out of his lungs all at once. The world is spinning. This must be some bad dream, he was asleep and this is a nightmare, it isn't real.
But then you finally seem to notice something is going on.
You pull away from Jesper and look past his arm, to see Kaz standing there with a bewildered look on his face.
'Kaz?' you say, not letting go of Jesper. 'Are you alright? Did something happen on the job?'
Jesper turns around as well now, curiously looking at Kaz.
Instead of looking at you and answering you, Kaz turns his attention to Jesper. The sick feeling in his stomach fades away and gets replaced by anger. Jesper had the guts to kiss you, his girl.
Rage takes over, the same kind of rage that had gotten him the name Dirtyhands. It flashes like a red light in front of his eyes. Without wasting another second, Kaz raises his cane and jabs one of Jesper's legs, sending him to the ground.
'What the fuck, Kaz!' you yell at him.
You rush over to Jesper's side, but Kaz roughly shoves you away with his cane, kneeling next to the taller boy. He angrily looks at him, gritting his teeth.
'You don't get to kiss her just because I can't.' says Kaz in a low voice.
Both you and Jesper look confused, having no clue wat Kaz is talking about.
'Saints, what on earth are you talking about?' says Jesper, rubbing the sore spot on his leg.
'She belongs with me, and you can't kiss her because I can't- because I won't- I forbid you from it.' says Kaz.
You look at Kaz, not believing what you're hearing. You'd never seen him like this, so angry, so full of rage. And you'd never seen him use his cane to hurt his crows before.
'I don't know what the fuck you are talking about.' says Jesper. 'But I'd appreciate it if next time, you'd say something instead of using that damned cane of yours. Now if you could excuse us, we went out back to have some privacy.'
Kaz' eyes widen in anger and you watch in horror as he raises a fist and swings it down, hitting Jesper's cheek hard. Before he can strike again, you catch a hold of Kaz' arm and drag him away from Jesper.
You drag him all the way back through the door and into the kitchen. Nina looks up, probably having heard something was going on. It takes one look from you for her to hurry up the stairs, leaving you alone.
You take Kaz over to one of the tables and roughly push him into a chair.
'Stay here.' you say as you glare at him.
Kaz, a feeling of numbness washing over him, doesn't protest.
You walk out the door again and he can hear you softly talking to Jesper. A while later, you and Jesper walk into the kitchen. Kaz sees a bruise is already forming on Jesper's cheek, right where he hit him.
Jesper looks at Kaz with a mixed expression of pain and confusion on his face.
You find some ice and put it on Jesper's cheek.
'Keep that on there.' you tell him. 'Go upstairs, I'll come to your room in a second. I have to talk to Kaz first.'
Jesper nods and as soon as he's out the door, you furiously turn to Kaz.
'You're going to tell me what the fuck that was about right now. No lies, no excuses, you're going to tell me the truth. Now.' you say, dragging out a chair and sitting down in front of Kaz.
'You don't get to kiss her because I can't?' you say, repeating the words he said earlier. 'What the hell was all that about?'
Normally, Kaz knows exactly what to say. All the time. He's always got an answer ready. But whenever it's just the two of you, it's like he forgets how to talk.
'Well?' you press on. 'Say something, for Saints sake!'
When he still doesn't say something, you slam your hand down on the table, and Kaz flinches slightly. You never got this angry.
'I don't want to see Jesper kissing you because I want to do that. That should have been me.' says Kaz.
'Well you can't even take your damn gloves off, did you really think you'd be able to kiss me?' you say in a cold voice.
'With time, maybe.' says Kaz.
You sigh and softly shake your head. You've been part of the Dregs for years. You care a lot about Kaz. But the bond you have with him is just not a romantic one. Apparently, Kaz didn't think so.
'You fucking hit Jesper.' you say, your voice less loud. 'He's going to have a bruise on his cheek.'
'I was angry.' is all Kaz says.
'Clearly.' you say. 'You need to apologise to him.'
Kaz looks at you. 'Yes, Kaz, you have to say you're sorry.' you say.
When Kaz gets up, you stop him.
'Not now.' you say. 'He doesn't want to see you.'
Kaz sits back down again and starts to avoid your gaze. After sitting in silence for a while, you sigh.
'Why'd you have to do it?' you wonder out loud.
'I don't know.' says Kaz. 'Just- seeing someone else kiss you like that, it made me so angry. Like something snapped inside of me.'
'If your really feel the way you say you feel about me, why didn't you say something sooner?' you say.
'I was scared.' admits Kaz. 'That you wouldn't have me because I wouldn't be able to kiss you, to touch you.'
'Physical affection isn't the only thing in a relationship.' you say.
'I know, I know, I just-' 'Kaz.'
He finally looks at you and you can see he's hurt. But you'd rather tell him the truth than lie to protect his feelings.
'Even if you would be able to touch me, a relationship would have never worked. Not for me, at least. I'm sorry, Kaz, I'm not going to sugarcoat it.' you say. 'I love you and I care about you, but not like that. I'm in love with Jesper. We didn't tell you or the other crows because if word gets out, people will see it as one of our weaknesses. I don't want to know what they'd do to get to me, or to get to Jesper.'
You look at Kaz, scanning his face for a reaction. He's letting your words sink in, thinking about them.
'Look, Kaz, I'm sorry. I'd rather tell you the truth than lie to make you feel better. I love Jesper, and right now, I have no intention at all of breaking up with him. You're going to have to find a way to deal with that.' you say and you get up.
'Apologise to him tomorrow, I'll talk to him.' you say. 'And next time, use your words. Not your cane or your fists.'
Kaz watches as you walk toward the stairs, to get to Jesper's room. He watches you as you disappear out of his line of sight. Regret starts to set in. He shouldn't have hit Jesper. He just felt so angry when he saw you with someone else.
You love Jesper, and there's nothing he can do about it. Right now, all he could do was sit in silence, getting lost in his thoughts wondering about what could have been if he had only talked to you sooner.
Meanwhile, you have reached Jesper's room. You knock and open the door, finding Jesper sitting on the bed. He's still got the ice pressed against his cheek.
'Hey.' you say as you walk up to him. Jesper briefly smiles at you but winches immediately at the movement. You sit down next to him and carefully take his hand in yours so you could remove the ice and take a look at his cheek.
Indeed, the skin of his cheek is red, a bruise forming. You lean in to softly press a kiss to his cheek before putting the ice back in place.
'What did Kaz have to say?' says Jesper.
'Um, that he has feelings for me. And that seeing you kiss me just made him angry. That's why he hit you.' you say.
'Should've used his words instead.' mumbles Jesper.
'That's what I told him.' you say. 'But I also told him to find a way to deal with it, because I am not going to break up with you.'
At your words, Jesper smiles. 'Thanks for kissing my war injury better.' he says, making you chuckle. 'I love you.'
'Love you too, Jes.' you say. You smile and get up to go and get ready for bed.
Little did you know that Kaz was standing right outside the door. He'd stopped there on his way to his room on the top floor. The three words you spoke to Jesper stung in his chest.
He'd give anything to hear you say those words to him. But you had made it clear that wasn't going to happen. Eventually, Kaz would have to find a way to deal with it.
After all, both you and Jesper are two of his most valuable and skilled crows. He couldn't just dismiss you because you love each other.
He'd find a way to deal with it. But not tonight. For tonight, he settles for going to his room and opening a bottle of kvas instead.
