The Spring of the Soul

On Friday evening, i got ready to go to the ladies milad at my mom's friend's house, followed by the masjid. I had no idea what to wear, so i ended up going with a simple, elegant outfit i bought in Pakistan this year. It initially caught my eye because of the color: a beautiful mix of sage green and pale turquoise. It reminded me of a piece of seaglass you might find along the shore of a sandy beach, and i automatically love anything that reminds me of being in nature :)

Mawlid has been such a spiritually rich, fulfilling breath of time... i wish i could experience it over and over. I attended some beautiful seerah lectures with my Sunni friend last Sunday; the speeches were spiritual, deep, and passionate, like a warm cup of tea for my soul. I also attended some fascinating lectures at our masjid for the past two nights- i loved them both and felt like i learned something new, which is one of my favorite feelings in the world :) I think the biggest surprise was learning about the concept of tafa'ul bil khayr- i've been doing that my entire life and had always secretly felt a little guilty about it; learning that the Prophet (pbuh) did something similar blew my mind. Why didn't anyone tell me?? I might write more on this later, but i'm extremely curious to explore it further.

Though my heart tends to gravitate toward content that leans spiritual and metaphysical, getting to experience the contrast between different styles of lectures this week has really made me appreciate how incredible it is that humankind is made up of so many different kinds of thinkers... there are so many different ways of looking at things, so many unique perspectives and dimensions i wouldn't think to consider if i didn't get a chance to step outside my perceptional box and see through the eyes of people whose minds work so differently from mine. We have so much to teach each other, and so much to learn.

As i write this, i'm thinking about the multi-faceted genius of our Holy Prophet (pbuh)- it almost defies reason that someone so intelligent, wise, insightful, and analytical could also be so kind, gentle, compassionate, and thoughtful, but he was; these qualities are only antithetical in limited beings devoid of depth and balance... Our Prophet was the perfect amalgamation of every conceivable virtue. I know it's strange to say this about someone i've never met, but i miss him so much lately. Every time i think about what my heart is longing for the most, i realize the answer is him and his Ahlulbayt (as); every moment of every day, i crave nothing more than proximity to that kind of pure, unerring goodness. All my heart wants, more than anything, is to remain near those who are spiritually alive and in love with God.

I'm going to try my best to make it to the seerah conference today- it's going to be a trek bc i also need to recite at a milad on the other side of town, but i'm determined to figure it out iA :)

never be sorry about saying hello!!!! 🥺 no matter how many times. i love it. 😌 it makes me feel apart of things. 🥹 but you know, your ask made me kinda sit there and have a think. 🧐 mostly bc—everything i wanted to include in The Widening Sky, i included!!! 🥺 all the little moments they would’ve had would’ve been—just that, little moments. 🥺 Reader’s calves burning against the hot, wet rock she’s perched on, waiting for Bakugou to come back from some random errand. Or maybe… napping under the shade of the trees while he splashes about, annoyed that she’s wasting their time together by sleeping. Or paddling in the sea while Bakugou rolls around in the shallows like a bored seal pup.

one thing, though, that like, the fic didn’t have room for was what exactly Bakugou was getting up to, after Reader treks back through the scrub to Grandma’s house. Because Bakugou is first and foremost a warrior, right? like the whole reason they end up meeting is because he’s like, curled away licking at his wounds and fish-cursing lmao. and i’ve always thought that if he had people out there, in the ocean, that they wouldn’t…. stay in one place. humans are everywhere! we have eyes everywhere!! even in like, the waters around their island—it’s not really theirs. and especially not with whatever is polluting it, during the fic. so i think if there were others like Bakugou out there, they’d eventually inch further and further away, hide away on some abandoned stretch of shore along a island too tiny and too important for humans to have cameras or eyes on it. Leaving Bakugou—essentially the vanguard, out on a mission!!! so what i think Reader doesn’t realise, when she’s kicking off her sandals at Grandma’s door and brushing the sand off and getting dinner ready while the TV blares out behind her is that—Bakugou doesn’t just go back to some nice charming little seacave filled with like, seaglass that reflects watercolour lights on the walls. He doesn’t get to go to sleep on a bed of seaweed when Reader’s curling into her pillow, with the window open behind her. He’s out there in the dark, keeping watch for something in the water that shouldn’t be there. Maybe there’s a handful of others with him, all of them spread out. But the point is that he is very much embroiled in something beyond us, and that those like… golden, in-between hours we have with him are stolen, on both our parts. 🌅🌾

tbh, i haven’t given much thought to a reversal situation. 🧐 have you read @/smashboxgirl26’s hidden in the sand? i was thinking about it, after you sent your ask, and did the following doodle for it but like—i think she pulls off quite well the problem that i struggle with, in regards to making Reader the mermaid? like in Smashie’s fic, Bakugou’s returned to an island where he used to holiday as a kid—but it’s different now. He’s a pro hero for starters, and the summer-hours friend he had (you) is missing—gone. writing it from Bakugou’s POV is such a clever way of getting around the question of like, how do you have a mermaid reader-insert where you don’t have to like, write convincingly about them living in the ocean. because!!! idk about the rest of u but it seems like living in the ocean 24/7 would be very scary. and dark. dark!!! anyways my point is i admire how smashie does it. 😌 so highly recommend.

@enigmaticdrblockhead is the one author that, bar none, always justifiably destroys me while somehow making me love humanity even more.

Mountains Crumble to the Sea, Darkness, and AliveDead were all S8 fics/AUs (AliveDead hits my niche of Skinner or Doggett or Scully finding Mulder returned from his abduction but wandering the streets.)

Ascension spilled my guts to the floor and made me shed actual tears (AU Colonization w/ Will.) The only other fic to do that would be @melforbes's seaglass blue and... one other one I forgot about.

And lastly,

Looking Forward to the Abyss is about a demonic Mulder who wrecked vengeance without regrets for Scully (Maggie's here, too.)

These have my whole heart in ways that other, darker fics struggle to capture (since my preference is not normally angst) and gives me a good "peering into the darkness to heal the soul, not embitter it" reflective reading experience.

Maybe you've already read them; but I had to give the author a shoutout. She has a coveted place in my collection. :DDDDD

She thrifts a lot of her clothes I think and "borrows" half of them from her friends- not that they mind. I feel like she'd look cute in a pink headband as well. Hello my love, welcome to Day One of why you're cute since you don't believe me slash maybe just love letters cause I can. Anyway, today we're going to talk about your eyes. Whenever I catch them, I find myself absolutely captivated. I love how they change depending on what you're wearing or the make up you've done that day. I always thinking of them like seaglass. Not always quite green, not always quite blue. They're the first thing I get to see when you wake up, and it makes my heart stop for a moment every time. If I had any idea how to, I could write a 1800's type lyrical ballads that stretched on and on for pages about your eyes.

I’ve got a gigantic idea for a fic, one that would need many chapters and one i should probably not start because I can’t seem to finish things but if you would like to hear the synopsis please see below the cut ❤️

It would be a Dean/Cas centered fic with an OC (which I know most people don’t like, but the OC would not be in any romantic relationship. At least atm. And if she is it would not be with the main cast)

Alea (my OC) finds out she’s a nephilim. Either from her mother’s death bed or late mother’s letters to her. Haven’t decided yet. Thing is, her mother doesn’t know which angel it is. She did years of research to even find out what Alea was in the first place. 

Her mother tells her to go to the park where there is a gate to heaven. (Is that gate even still active?? Lord there’s so many episodes of spn who can keep track)

Alea spends some time learning herself, her powers that have popped up now and again and tries to control them. It’s hard. She’s powerful. 

So she packs a backpack and somehow gets to heaven. She’s done her research. She’s searching for one person. Someone her mother knew could help, someone her father told her mother on the one night they were together that if she ever needed any help with a weird thing contact the Winchesters. And after research of her own decided he’s the only person who could help search for who her father is. 

Dean Winchester  

She tried praying at first, but that didn’t work, so now she’s in heaven and not sure where to go first. Heaven is very different now of course. 

She figures out to find The Roadhouse. She’s walking along a gravel road when a familiar roar (to our ears) of an engine comes barreling down the road. Lots of where are you going who are you “I’m not an idiot just because it’s heaven doesn’t mean I’m getting into a car with a stranger” 

Anyway she gets in eventually because duh, this car, this guy, it’s gotta he Dean. Oh he’s heading to the roadhouse? Perfect. 

Fast forward, talking, Cas comes in at some point, she’s like help please and dean is like well no? I can’t really? No body. Burned up. Poof. And in a fit of rage she’s like fine I’ll just make you one. 

So she goes out into the fields and BOOM ANGEL NEPHILIM POWER ENSUES and she takes dean soul down to earth where she builds him a new body from the mud, (I have it all planned in my head, seaglass for the eyes, sand for his freckles ect. Lol)

She puts the soul in the body and poof new alive dean. She passes out then cause damn that took awhile. Dean is naked and like wtf. Cas saves the day. How did you know I was here? “Uh, I followed the gigantic beacon of light and power that just happened?” 

So they go to the bunker cause it’s only place they can think of which of course triggers a bunch of alarms to Sam. He eventually shows up with his wife, Eileen, who is pregnant. (Yes let’s say God!Jack saves Eileen let’s gooooo) 

 Normal Brother like reunion happens. What the hells are exchanged. But Dean becomes absolutely exhausted because yo maybe she didn’t make this body so great? Even though he felt like 1000 bucks just moments before. 

Cas takes him to bed…. Tehe. but just so rest and sleep okay.

They decide to help because of course they do and cas helps with the power thing. He tries at least. She has a few break downs. trees are not spared. she feels bad because GLOBAL WARMING CAS. She also still feels absolutely horrible about what she did to Dean. Dean was happy and it was over and she brought him out again. “should I kill him? I mean I can kill him. want me to kill you? im so sorry.” 

Dean’s new body eventually starts to reject itself and he in his Dean way is like im FINE. Cas and Sam know otherwise. Cas as his husband now is like nu huh absolutely not TALK TO ME. So Dean tells him he wonders if it’s because the hand brand Castile had given him so long ago wasn’t there. (He also needed to get a new tattoo for anti possession so theres that too). So anyway in a heated erotic time Cas gives him another one and it helps his soul settle into the new body finally. 

There’s some sexy wing action in this too just saying. 

That’s all I got so far. Don’t wanna spoil who the angel father is just in case I do write this.
