somehow, I don't know how, but somehow sewing machines always know when you're nearly done with a project and pick that exact moment to throw a hissy fit

#sewing #sewing machines #I am so close to finishing this dumb swimsuit that I started in 2020 for a vacation that ended up not happening #and which I stuffed into a shoebox and into the back of my sewing stash when I realized I wouldn't get to wear it in 2020 #then pulled it back out to finish for this family gathering coming up in a few days here #it's a one-piece suit and I hate one-piece swimsuits #and no one-piece has fit me off the rack since puberty so I'm stuck sewing it for myself #but I'm very happy with the design and relatively happy with the finished look #the idea is just to have something that is supportive and modest enough to wear around family #and in particular to wear to something like a waterpark with my nephews #something that won't ride up or fall down or come untied or anything like that #so it has a low-cut leg hole and a high-cut neck #and an entire invisible superstructure in the lining underneath to actually provide support and enclosure and all #it's plain black but it fits and supports and won't fly apart at the seams #but this very last step. oh this last step.#I had to drape the exterior bust area directly on me bc I can't account for curves and stretch and such if it's flat on the table #and then I had to wiggle out of it carefully with a ton of pins in the underarm and neckline area #I'm using a double-needle to top stitch the edges as a finish across the whole suit. it did one underarm and the neckline just fine!#but the turn from where the neckline meets the strap and down into the other underarm it just. won't do it.#it has thrown a fit and created a tangle of thread multiple times now. there are only 4" left to sew! just sew it!#it's not hard! we just did the exact same thing on the other side and it worked fine! but no! gotta throw a hissy fit!#ugh. anyway. I have removed all the thread and needles from the machine and turned it off and basically sent it to timeout lol #wrote this rant and gonna make myself some food and I'll fucking finish those last 4 inches later tonight or tomorrow #and then I have one tiny repair to something else I want to take on this trip. hopefully my sewing machine won't throw a fit over that too #istg the only projects this doesn't happen with are the ones that end with a bunch of handsewing #that's the way to trick my sewing machine I guess. but I'm not handsewing a swimsuit lol #at least I'm not so pressed for time that I can't just walk away from it for a bit. getting close to time to pack but not quite yet #my sewing #2024 mood #tagtalking

Seeing the same people who perpetuated or sent vicious misogynistic hate to Hannah Schmitz, as well as disgusting racist abuse towards Yuki and Alex because of FUCKING CONSPIRACY THEORIES and those who just straight up ignored it, now up in arms regarding whatever the fuck is going on between the FIA and the wolffs is beginning to piss me off. Because now that it's not someone red bull affiliated involved, it's somehow now unacceptable.

thank god i finally fucking did a tension swatch cause this sweater would've ended up wayyyy too small

#i think it would have still fit but i'd probably have run out of yarn #i got one of those caron pounds and bigger needles i'll do another swatch today see if that'll work #and depending on how much this pattern uses i'd like to make a second out of a big cake i have #maybe cropped???#i think i'll need close to 400g for the size i want and the cake is 300g and the one i got with the needles is 500 something g so test run #patterns are so fucking expensive but i'm not at a place in knitting where i can just go for it like i can in crochet #anyway the cake is what i used for the tension swatch i'm interested to try it again but i rlly wanna just get started so i'll just swatch #the new yarn & needles today #and then go from there #it's gonna be like a loose open knit pull over situation #cause i loveeee the way they look i've been wanting to make one for awhile #but it's so intimidating cause my last sweater i made some pretty significant mistakes lmso #and i'm actually gonna have to frog that one and start over #but that's very much a dead of winter sweater #i want a summer sweater rn #anyway #oh yeah and i finished the stuffie hammock!!!!!!#ended up crocheting the ties #gonna get it spouse's help to hang it up later i hope it works #it turned out sooooo cute #i love the fabric + yarn combo #kinda worked out that i ran out of ribbon

Thinking about going back through my 'fic bits' tag and moving some of them onto AO3, and there's a part of me that wants to do a full sweep just for archival purposes (because, listen, Tumblr is going to go away someday and we all know it), but while some need only minimal editing and some just need expansion, some of them are... not at all in the shape of what I would consider a 'story,' or would need so much context to get there that I might as well just write the longfic I was deliberately doing a short on Tumblr to avoid writing out. XD;; Not to mention the ones that have just been made so totally not-canon-compliant by new canon released since that I'd feel weird putting them up on AO3 now!

I've been viewing your Red Dwarf Pokemon AU and I love it. I just have a question: In that Universe, are Simulants and GELFs the same as in the original universe, or is it like Cyborg Pokemon and GELFs which are genetically engineered Pokemon (a bit like Mewtwo)?

Omg this is like my second ever ask!!! 😊

Simulants and GELFs are the same as they are in the original universe, but they all have thematically appropriate Pokémon too!

That way there can be Pokémon battles beyond Lister's Snorlax absolutely trouncing Rimmer's Snivy for the 100th time (after Rimmer demands a battle for the 100th time).

In some episodes, they run into Pokémon that are companions to other sentient life forms, and sometimes they run into planets full of wild Pokemon they've never seen before!

Other times, Pokémon on the ship start causing problems:

Lister leaving trash everywhere has resulted in way more Grimer than the ship can sustain and they need to find a trash planet for them to live happily in.

Magnemite have gotten into the ship's engine and are causing increasingly bizarre malfunctions.

A Ditto with sunglasses is out to cause problems by impersonating the ship's crew! Stuff like that!

Every once in a while, they can run into a legendary Pokémon. Which would be hilarious because the boys (with the exception of Kryten) are completely incapable of speaking to a majestic elder god with anything approaching the proper amount of respect!

They do probably run into a Mewtwo (or Mewtwo-like situation) at some point and then they have to deal with an angry super-intelligent, super-powerful, genetically engineered, malevolent Pokémon with major emotional issues.

It'd make for a great multi-part episode or movie special, and I picture it happening shortly before Rimmer goes off to be Ace (whereupon he will achieve the character growth we all deserved to see in canon)!

Early in the special, Lister's kindness is what first plants seeds of doubt about the value of cruelty in the Mewtwo creature's mind.

As the plot progresses, it seems more and more like a heartfelt speech from Lister might solve the whole thing.

But then, Lister is knocked out or temporarily turned into stone during the climax, and it is suddenly up to RIMMER of all people to make a last-ditch appeal to Mewtwo's sense of love and kindness!

("Well! We're doomed!" chirps the Cat, from whatever psychic prison he is stuck in. Kryten, who at this point has been reduced to his eyeballs by a psychic blast, somehow manages to nod in agreement. (But what they don't know is that I, Jack! am the one writing this special! And I am a very specific kind of writer.))

Rimmer looks at the possibly-dead Lister... looks at himself... and then looks at the furious psychic being killing them all...

And he ends up making an impassioned speech about how Lister doesn't deserve this. ("Maybe I do. Maybe even the Cat and Kryten. but not Lister.") About how Lister keeps seeing bits of good in everyone, even Rimmer. Lister even saw good in Mewtwo!

("Please... he's... he's a good man. Yes, he's a disgusting, childish idiot with less brain cells than dead liver cells, but he's a good person. Look into his brain. You have to see that. That has to count for something.")

This is the first time in the series we've seen Rimmer say something nice about Lister. The Cat and Kryten are dumbfounded.

And no one is more surprised than Rimmer that it actually works.
