Double birthday for Italy's national broadcaster Rai! 100 years since its birth and 70 years of TV!

Topolino celebrates Rai with a special volume collecting some of the best stories dedicated to tv.

Rai was formed in 1924 under the name Unione Radiofonica Italiana (Italian Radio Union), or URI for short, as a branch of Guglielmo Marconi's Marconi Company to take up the role of national broadcaster after a Royal Decree in 1923 had made wireless broadcasting a state monopoly. In 1944, the name was changed in Rai (Radio Audizioni Italiane).

On 3rd January 1954, following the examples of other national broadcasters around the world, Rai began a regular television service with a report on the inauguration of the new tv headquarters in Turin, Milan and Rome and a following program on... you guess it? football ^^.

Needless to say, Rai's always been a very good friend of Topolino and Disney in general, with tons of parodies and mutual tributes spreaded across the years. Particularly I'd like to mention "Topolino e il collezionista di stelle", tribute story by Francesco Artibani and Alessandro Perina published on Topolino #3082 on the occasion of Rai's 60th birthday.
