having some feelings about Joe Chill in this Chili's tonight.
I often hate how Joe Chill and the Wayne murders are handled, specifically when it's part of some bigger grand scheme as opposed to just a regular everyday mugging and how that relates to Bruce as a character. I feel like something is lost when Thomas and Martha are killed because of some conspiracy or whatever. I think it takes away from one of the core reasons why Bruce became Batman in the first place.
like it's supposed to be a random act of senseless violence! not some huge conspiracy with a secret group controlling Gotham or because of some mob connection. I don't want Joe Chill to be in the Court of Owl or be a Talon or a hired hit-man or to be a mob boss or or or
I think Joe Chill works best as a character and plot device when he is simply a guy who needed some quick cash and robbed the first wealthy people he saw. (maybe killing them was an accident or maybe he did mean to kill all three but didn't realize that he didn't have enough bullets for Bruce. idk haven't figured that part out yet)
it doesn't have to be any more grand than that!
Bruce became Batman so that he could stop random acts of violence from tearing families apart. so that no one else has to watch their loved ones get murdered right in front of them.
that is the core of what he does and why he does it.
making his parents be the target of the Owls or the mob or whatever kind of takes that away imo.
AND ANOTHER THING
I don't like when stories have Bruce figure out who killed his parents. I like it to be a mystery! I like the irony of Bruce being the World's Greatest Detective but the one case he can't solve is his own.
the irony! the drama! the frustration! the feelings of inadequacy!
he keeps going back to the case. HIS case. trying to find new leads, new evidence, new anything. but there is none! because there was no rhyme or reason to the killings. it was just some guy who needed money. and that could be anyone.
I feel like Bruce never being able to find the guy who killed his parents would actually be better for his character growth than if he ever was able to confront Joe Chill. it would push him harder to want to be a better detective. it would give him more drive! like yeah I do want him to have some closure and some solace but I also have a lot of feelings about his pursuit of finding his parents killer being ultimately fruitless and bleak.
it could also add a layer to his relationship with his kids, specifically the ones who also have murdered parents. but the thing is, all them who have dead parents know who the killers were. there's no mystery to who killed Dick's parents, or Jason's parents, or Tim's parents. Bruce can relate to them all for having murdered parents but he can't relate to actually having that closer of Who Did It.
it's what drives him to help Dick take down Tony Zucco. it's about the guilt he feels knowing his own friend Harvey Dent killed Jason's father. it's about how he couldn't save Sheila Haywood from the Joker along with Jason. it's about how Jack Drake was killed by a villain that Bruce easily would have taken down had he been there. it's about how he couldn't actually save any of his kids bio parents but has solace knowing that at least they won't lie awake at night wondering who it was that killed them like he's done every single damn day since he was eight years old.
does anyone else have as many thoughts and feelings about Joe Chill as I do???
this post was brought to you by my long tags on this post.

I absolutely love when Damian refer to himself as "it" in fanfiction.
Either it's because he is still so used to being dehumanised and it's an habit for him, and I get my good old angst.
Or it's when he's older and confident in himself and his identity and reclaim it. And as someone who also uses it/its pronouns, that's somehow very powerful and liberating!

So what is the consensus thought about the nature of Luthen and Kleya’s relationship? Strictly employer-employee and fellow Rebels? Lovers? Mentor and mentee? Blood relations or found family?

Okay is this meant to be the same shirt because I think it is
Tumblr media Tumblr media
At the end of Kin, it has a little pine tree on it.
Tumblr media
You can kinda see it in Left Behind
Tumblr media Tumblr media
After she goes hunting in episode 8, it's still there.
I feel like it SHOULD be showing here
Tumblr media
And after she wakes up, it's gone
Tumblr media
But I don't think this is meant to be a different sweatshirt??
I keep seeing people in fanfic saying she's in a different shirt, which if you wanna angst I'm not gonna stop you, but I think this might just be a continuity error XD

I would read your dissertation about that scene! Would you be able to say which moments you go back and forth about regarding Ben falling for Callum? Do you do the same for Callum? Because I know when it whacked Callum round the head that he had feelings for Ben- Ben nearly dying in his arms after Hunter shot him- but again, I’m not sure when he actually started falling.
okay so we all agree that callum fully realized and admitted his feelings for ben when he got shot, right?! i believe that his feelings started to develop after pride. i think the softness he got from ben during the cheek kiss scene completely blindsided him and kickstarted this internal slow burn. i mean the way he checked in one ben during the summer ballum drought, perking up whenever ben was mentioned, looking almost longingly at him?? that was him slowly falling for ben. even if he didn't want to acknowledge or admit it.
for ben though it's not so easy for me to pinpoint. i think there was definitely attraction and intrigue there from the start and that directly led to them having sex in the park. because even though he was in his hoe era, i kinda don't think ben would've slept with callum otherwise. especially knowing callum hadn't been with a man before. i could see him slowly starting to fall for callum immediately afterwards. the next day in the vic toilets, protecting callum from his dad and everything at pride definitely screams that he cared for callum at that point. because would 2019!ben really care otherwise? and him telling callum he wasn't worth the hassle was just him protecting his feelings etc. the other point in time i think he might've started like really falling for callum is right before the stag do/wedding. both the scenes in the arches during the stag and when whitney confronted ben really showed just how much ben felt for callum already then. like he was in deep at that point. and although he tried to play it off and pretend that wasn't the case, he was jealous and he was heartbroken (remember the spoiler pics we got that said ben was pining for callum and the scene never aired??). i think both points are possible and like i said i always flip flop which point i think is the one in my head.

I’m not generally a fan of podcasts, but Song vs Song’s most recent episode compares As It Was and Anti-Hero. Also, S-Town, which is an offshoot of the Serial podcast, has a whole season on a letter delivered to city officials in Manchester about an Islamic plot to take over the city schools. I’ve only just started, but it’s been highly rated by some people I respect. I have appreciated your recs and just subscribed to Money 4 Nothing. Your saying it was Ralphcore made me think I’d like it too. Hope you’re having a good weekend!
Anon 2: Bone Valley is a new podcast about a wrongful conviction that may interest you.
********
Thanks anons - I've listened to the Song vs Song episode comparing As it Was and Anti-Hero. And Trojan Horse (the story about the supposed plot to take over schools) has been on my to list. I'm not sure about Bone Valley though - I'm very uninterested in mass-murders, and they seem to be focusing on who did the murders as much as the wrongful conviction.

It's something I've been very curious about, re: the general fandom's point of view, but just going by the movies/immediate canon, do you think the Tusken raid on the Lars's homestead was just random happenstance on a dangerous world? Or do you think Palpatine had some hand in it, in the name of furthering Anakin's fall to the Dark Side?

something I find really fun about Dream is how willing he is to grant wishes and answers in passing. Small things. You want some wine? ok. You showed up uninvited and wanna have dinner at my place? ok. You wanna know what I'm doing here? he'll tell you. You wanna halt our journey and take a nap? mmkay. You have a bunch of questions? He'll be cryptic as fuck but ok. You wanna talk to him on the plane? sure, it's not like he was gonna sleep.
Unless he has a specific reason not to go along he usually does (doesn't necessarily like it but still does) and I like that. It's like a mix of you're too insignificant for it to matter if I answer you or not and genuine care and curiosity about people. Very "this might as well happen" energy

Also I realize that the answer is probably just reading enough period sources but as a linguist I really do need to pick Patrick O'Brian's brain about where in the world he got his different speech patterns from

I know I poke fun at the john constantine pink triangle incident but jokes aside i'm genuinely curious what other people think about it. imo it's a great blaring example of how incapable dc is at writing john's bisexuality into a story that doesn't surround corporate pride or getting together with a man.
I tried talking about it once on tiktok (idk what i was thinking either) and a few people defended it saying things like "how else would you explain a blond hair blue eyed man being sent to a ww2 ghetto?"
didn't the joker send him there? was that not reason enough? 'the joker' was kidnapping girls and ordering soldiers around, we can't suspend our belief that she had the power to send a british soldier caught undercover as a nazi away? the pink triangle and 'bunny that doesn't breed' comment was necessary to the plot?

I'm not including a situation where someone might be injured because in that case I'm thinking the bed goes to them by default or they are nominated for it. anyone who wants to be chatty goes to join the living room floor gang.
What are your thoughts and headcanons? Do you have thoughts on how the boys tend to approach assigning beds in inns? Who do the chain choose to sleep near when camping and why? What are their dynamics like when settling down for the night and getting ready for the day?
In "Mirror Vs Open Closet Door: Fight!" by Gintrinsic (here) Four refers to the chain's decision on how to split up between inn rooms as the "Link-per-room ratio" which I find very funny. He, Sky, and Time also talk about their thought process behind why they do or don't want to sleep in a room with some of the others which I find fun and interesting.
So! If you have thoughts and want to share them! *gestures to the post!*
#linked universe#linkeduniverse#alrighty! now for my answers-#for the ranch question I think it varies which is why I'm asking in a poll. What do you think happens most often though?#each answer is a fun scenario so it's difficult to choose#but I think they'd try to act politely around Malon and Time for the first couple visits with straws or rock paper scissors#or showing generosity by offering the bed to someone else. (I bet Malon saying they're charming is quite the incentive#for more possible compliments. The chain as a whole would want to prove her right xD )#Once they're more comfortable in the house though I can totally see Wind and Legend making a mad dash for it while Wars yells after them xD#Wind probably ends up sharing with Four a lot since they're the littles#or Wind snuggles in with Wars Legend Wild etc#Wild and Twi/Wolfie have claimed the spot on the floor by the fireplace.#For inn rooms / castle rooms / camping - I tend to group them by how they're grouped a lot already#but a lil mixed up#Time - Sky - Wars are the good rest trio. they want a good night's rest please let them get their beauty sleep. often joined by Four#Wars goes between this group and wherever Legend is depending on how chatty he is that night.#Twi - Wild - Hyrule are snuggle/proximity buddies#Legend is attached to Hyrule's hip or sets up near Warriors to gossip and gripe. I can also see him setting up near Wild#in the eye of the storm as it were or just an interesting place to be. Wild and Hyrule can get to chatting about everything and anything#so if Legend wants background noise (Hyrule and Wild podcast omg)-#or a conversation he can be half a part of and jump in and out of while getting ready for the night or in the mornings-#this is a good place to be. add Wind and things get a bit more chaotic.#Wind gravitates to Wars and Legend too when curious and chatty. He gravitates towards Time when he wants something calmer.#Four tends to be near Sky or Twi or to Legend's group for the same reasons#I can see Four and Twi having a little book club going during downtimes where they talk about what they're reading. Sky likes to listen. <3#Wind thinks they're nerds but so is he and he can't resist a good story so he orbits and sometimes settles in and peppers questions.#it's funny that Time Sky and Wars want to sleep the most but Legend follows Wars to chat (and ends up bringing people with him xD )#there could be some conflict there oooo#Twi is by Time#it's almost a circle but with clusters of sleeping bags near on top of each other and filling the gaps
