The Survey Corps is trying to raise publicity by doing the ice bucket challenge.

Who gets nominated the most?

Hi Fox! I'd say... Hange.

Listen here, the aot world has no internet so I imagine the ice bucket challenge would take place in the middle of the square, where a veteran would have to empty a bucket of freezing water on themselves.

I have very few knowledge of that challenge but the people nominate the participants, right? I assume the criteria would be whoever of the bunch is more amusing to watch performing the challenge. So the people want Hange, or maybe she comes to a tie with Erwin.

Levi is out of the question because he doesn't react to the challenge, at all. Ice cold water pours down his back and he doesn't bat an eye. It's no fun.

Erwin would get nominated a lot because a lot of people want to make fun of him for all the failures of the Survey Corps, but Erwin will endure anything for the funding and the publicity. He bears it stoically. Not funny. (Same with Mike, same with Nanaba. Stoicism is directly disproportional with fun)

Hange makes faces, shrieks and jolts whenever the bucket empties on her, just like we saw her reacting when she touched Eren's Titan's scorching hand. She's admittedly funny to watch, so the people would want her for her expressive nature.

Imagine now if she's gotten tired of being nominated and she refuses to do it again. She can't catch a cold again for the sake of Erwin's ideas, she's got research to do.

Levi and Mike have to restrain her (Erwin's orders), and we all know how that ends; they all end up wrestling on the floor, drenched to the bone, with humanity's strongest (and that is two people) trapped in a headlock by a squad leader with half of Levi's muscle mass. Spectacular.

I'm sorry, but the new ice bucket challenge is kind of infuriating. People with ALS/Lou Gehrig's Disease are rightfully speaking out criticizing the project for being appropriation of the one tiny shred of publicity people with ALS were able to acquire... and this is being appropriated for what exactly? "Mental health"? What does that even mean? It's beyond nebulous, and I have no clue what it's supposed to mean.

Does this "mental health" challenge include schizophrenics and schizo-spec people? Does it include people with violent and sexual OCD themes? Does it include people with cluster B disorders? People who have significant hygiene trouble due to their mental health? People who struggle with homicidal thoughts? Treatment resistant people who struggle to be compliant in recovery? People who don't work due to their mental illness?

I'd be very slightly less inclined to be mad about this if the project zeroed in on a mental health subject ie. suicide prevention. Regardless, even if this challenge is inclusive of folks with stigmatized mental health struggles- which I doubt it is- people with ALS deserve to have the ice bucket challenge to themselves the same way the pink ribbon exclusively belongs to breast cancer awareness and the semi-colon for suicide prevention and awareness.

Anyways, I cannot stop you from doing the new "mental health" (whatever that means) ice bucket challenge but at the same time at least include a little blurb about ALS when you do it and shout out the original challenge and its purpose. ALS is a terminal and debilitating disease which takes so many innocent lives.

“Ice bucket challenge for mental health awareness” actually shut the fuck up. Shut up.

The ice bucket challenge was created to raise awareness for ALS research!! A disease that still has no cure and is 100% fatal! A disease that was and is severely overlooked in research.

The shock of the ice represents the way ALS sufferers feel upon their diagnosis, and mimics the loss of control they feel over their bodies.

I hate watching this history be erased. Like that’s not what this is for!

Like yes mental health awareness but it is also a form of ableism to come into spaces that are specifically for terminal illnesses and terminal illness awareness and claim it as something else now. Like sorry Im actually really fucking mad about this I watched my aunt die. I watched her die slowly and painfully and saw people stop caring the worse she got because we live in an ableist as hell society.

The ice bucket challenge is about ALS and if you are claiming it’s about mental health you have no idea about the toes you are stepping on right now and the painful history of this space.

Some things sold by corporations are hard to cut out BUT NOT EVERYHING. Make and repair your clothes, buy things from local businesses, replace junk food with homemade treats, take care of your electronics rather than buying the new model every year. At the very least stop spending so much disposable income on Starbucks and Target when it’s actively hurting everyone in your life.

Bug your family to boycott. Stop spending money on candy at 7/11. Do it now. Please.
