what are your top 5 choni scenes and why

was cleaning out my inbox and found this from 6 years ago lmao back when this would have been a lot easier to answer because they had a LOT less scenes. i really tried to sit and narrow it down to just 5 scenes, even if i couldn’t rank them, but it was really hard without setting some limits, so i’m going to make myself only pick one scene per season and list them in chronological order.

season 2: first kiss. just iconic, perfectly set up and executed. best first kiss on the show, hands down, was never topped. cinematic. honorable mentions to the scene at the bijou and their almost kiss.

season 3: their reunion in the finale. it’s a short scene, but so sweet. toni gathering the cavalry to save cheryl, the ‘baby?!’, the running hug and kiss, the sheer relief and emotion in toni’s voice, so good. honorable mentions to the 3.12 bed scene purely for how cozy it is and cheryl sacrificing herself to save toni at the farm, also so cinematic.

season 4: the couch cuddling scene post thanksgiving dinner. so comfy and sweet. i love a good cuddling moment, but add in a cute i love you exchange and a kiss? i’m happy. honorable mentions to the 4.08 pops scene and cheryl telling toni about nick, so much better than the garbage suicide attempt convo from s3 that was all about archie.

season 5: the pops convo from 5.05, nobody could ever make me hate that scene, the emotion and history and understanding and love there, just so good. forever mourning the excellent angst of those first two time jump episodes. what could have been if the rest of the season kept that tone. honorable mentions to the whole flashback sequence in 5.04 and the convo in 5.18. i do like their break up scene too but i’ll always be bitter about how much better it could have and should have been. deserved a last kiss or cuddle at the very least.

season 7: the music room convo in 7.10 is just so perfect, absolutely no notes. really sweet and mature and well written as a stand alone resolution to the plot in that episode, but even more satisfying and meaningful from a larger stand point, showing their growth from s3 and how they’re doing things right this time, etc. honorable mentions to the scene outside the school in 7.08 for some reason and the photoshoot, i think, but there’s so many i really love.

(no scene selection for s6 since i had to cut a season to narrow it down to 5 and most of the choni content in s6 is thabigail, but the bed scene from the finale is very excellent and bittersweet, even if i retroactively wish they had given us more since it ended up being the last interaction in the og timeline and there was a lot of opportunity for more closure there than what we got. and i think if they’d known they weren’t going back to the og timeline back then, we would have gotten more, but alas.)

Okay I wanna say sth so in the new episode …SPOILER:

So Betty actually wins the pageant according to the judges but Alice reads and crowns Ethel winner instead because she thinks the opportunities will help someone like Ethel. So I was thinking about the potential endgame ships in relation, now a lot of people aren’t understanding Beronica but I think in RAS’ mindset giving endgames for example to ships like Beronica and jarchie or Reggie and Archie would help queer representation in different ways than Choni and Kevin etc. As they’re the core 4 of the main characters - usually they would not be queer in any other show leading from friendship to romance. Usually in shows ships like these would never be endgame. Or even have a chance. But Beronica happening has changed this. I made a joking post before about how in most shows barchie would be endgame but in riverdale anything is possible. But I think there’s more meta to this after this pageant episode. Idk just musing..

Thinking this is inspired how Archie comics wouldn’t let him make Archie gay in his musical and how that influence the comics plot about censorship and then talking about the enemy is us not the red scare/communism etc the enemy is within wholesome, conforming America critique. Yes this is the milkman but it’s what riverdale is. It’s poking about this All American Archie mindset. It always has been. They’re pulling the curtain and telling you what riverdale is this season and that’s how it ties to the rest of the series. This then means they used the main ships to critique their tropes and what they mean. This concept of Alice giving Ethel the pageant win made me think how RAS might view th queer ships like jarchie or rarchie and Beronica. How normally they wouldn’t have a chance but then giving them a chance to be endgame is not something queer community is used to. For me it’s something different than the representation found in choni and the ships with Kevin. Which choni is amazing! Watch for them because they’re one of the best ships out there btw!! But Beronica and jarchie - these characters are the main icons of Archie comics and to end that classic love triangle in the queer way would be unique.

OT 2023 - GALA 1

We're back aaaaaa !!!! Anyways, just as I did with OT 2020, I will be talking about my top 3 favourite performances every week, as well as some honourable mentions. These posts will work a bit different than the OT 2020 ones tho, cause now the show is exclusively streamed in Prime Video, which means they do not upload the full performances to youtube, only 40 second clips. So, what I will do is link those clips in the honorable mentions and in the titles of my top 3, but I will include the full videos for the pases de micros. For the uninitiated, there are two pases de micros during the weeks; these are performances in the academy in front of the teachers that measure how they are doing and what things they should improve and stuff. Normally I will be posting the second one, cause those are usually best.

Anyways, let's start with some honorable mentions <3

Libertad - OT 2020: The first group song! I would say it was a perfect choice, this song really is perfect as a group song, and they sounded pretty good I think (except Suzette who didn't say her lines

Save your tears - Cris and Ruslana: They were good enough I would say! I thought they sounded good, and I really liked the scenography and such. Good performance 👍.

3. EL ENCUENTRO - PAUL & CHIARA

When I tell you I gasped when they gave them this song... El Encuentro is one of those songs that make me go feral, it's incredible and a bop and I've experienced it live (with both Amaia AND Alizzz !!!) and it's soooo good I love the feeling it expresses and the way it expresses it and yeah.... I'm so happy they got to sing it. I would say Chiara and Paul were perfect for it, they sounded so freaking good and I loved the acting (which becomes even better now that we know Paul has a crush on Chiara sjdsjdj). Also Paul !!! he was the favourite of the gala (SO DESERVED) and he's one of my faves so yeah :) loved this :)

2. PARA NO VERTE MÁS - ÁLVARO & NAIARA

Álvaro and Naiara, my favourite twink and choni duo... They're so iconic... Anyways, they had imo the hardest song to defend (not the most difficult but the most 'nominable' one) and they took a glance at that and said 'no thank you <3'. They were great, ate and left no crumbs, made it so so fun !!! They're the best, also Naiara has such a beautiful voice, possibly my favourite this edition.

1. A TU VERA - SALMA & JUANJO

THIS SONG. OF COURSE THIS WAS GOING TO BE NUMBER ONE. They were the best ones in the gala by far, and they deserved to shine so much, they worked so hard and had such a lovely connection and friendship, they're everything to me <3 Salma and Juanjo are rapidly becoming my favourites and I want to see them in other styles cause they're both folklore singers (Salma with flamenco and Juanjo with jotas) so this song was made for them. Even then, again, this performance was perfect, no notes.

And that was all! Overall, an average gala? I mean, it was the first one, my expectations weren't too high lol. Let's see what next week brings us, with two trios and both an Ana Mena AND a La La Love You song !!!! The nominees are Suzette and Lucas, and I'm not really rooting for any of them in particular, so I have no idea how it'll be go. Nevertheless, I am back hooked to OT, it was so quick lmao.

something something riverdale and the great gatsby as texts both about being trapped as queer people in the time you came from, riverdale by literally transporting them to the 1950s where they have to lose their queer expression eventually to live because its the 50s and the very symbol of their inversion of the American dream (archie) ends up knocked off his pedestal and forced into heterosexual marriage even though his dream and his heaven is with his polycule because he doesn't get to have his happy ending as he's beholden to the myth of americana and the 50s and that's his undoing while in the great gatsby the main characters all just want to be able to live the American dream but who they are and who that dream needs them to be are inherently at odds and lead to their own downfall until they're trapped by conventions of americana heteronormativitiy via death or traditional heterosexual marriage or forced institutionalization for deviance

jarchie being doomed by the narrative because it was always going to end with archie living out the american boyhood he's always represented even if it takes everything he loves from him because the narrative deems it so the same way gatsby is doomed by the narrative because for him to live his dream the bootstraps mentality of america would have to be true and a poor conman would have to be able to become rich and happy so he has to die and miss out on his heaven the same way archie has to settle with some unnamed nobody away from everyone he's loved and missed out on his heaven. in both cases the left in a lurch/abandoned other has taken the mythology of the tragic american hero upon themselves and have become the narrator, jughead is the narrator of riverdale and nick is the narrator of the great gatsby and in both they're searching for meaning in the failures and downfall of the man who was forced to lose everything because of the endless grind of the American dream

they are all victims to americas self mythology!!! to live truly and happily they would have to not be themselves as symbols and instead be themselves as people but the idealism is endless and to lose out on hope for the dream would be impossible!!!! and all that's left behind is their nonsymbolic mirror, left to tell their story and ensure their place as an icon of americana because otherwise it was all for nothing!!!!!!

Riverdale ships

I’m sorry but it must be said. At the end of the day, I think the endgames are clear. While BH was iconic and beautiful for the time they had not only would it be unrealistic for them to get back together but also the fact that their relationship ended due to Betty cheating on Jughead which not only broke his heart but also drove him into darkness and ended up an alcoholic. For them to get back together It would be a red flag. The same goes for VA whose relationship seemed like a carousel, fun but not lasting. Both ship a young love we all want to experience; however, I believe Both Jughead and Veronica deserve better than going back to relationships that ended in such heartbreak and pain as we have seen in season 6 both have now moved on Jughead with Tabitha and Veronica who wants to focus on herself and be the she-wolf of wall-street which I hope she does become. The only original ship that I think should and probably will return is Choni whose relationship is beautiful and ended due to family issues, but I have faith they will rise in season 7. Now if we look at the current ships of the show such as Barchie and Jabitha whose relationships are so grown up and so beautiful. Both ships are so supportive of one another. Their love is deep and pure which is shown constantly throughout both seasons 5 and 6. We see Archie is always there for Betty and comforts her in her times of need and we also see Betty support Archie and we see how much love they have for each other. With Jabitha we see Tabitha care for Jughead so much, helping him with his struggles and bringing him out of the dark. They are not toxic in any way and were slowly burned so beautifully. In the final episode of season 6, we see how far both ships have come. We see Betty moving towards the light with Archie and even asks him to marry her to which he says yes and was so beautiful and I know the writers can’t ignore it. As for Jabitha I truly believe they had one of the most beautiful moments on tv ever. Living out their lives together having two kids and growing old honestly brought tears to our eyes. I could say so much more about this but I think I have made my point that Barchie, Jabitha and Choni are endgame.

and the reason i hate CHONI is well. there are many. they are victims of riverdales soulmates/endgame problem where it’s like. they broke up for good reason and are better off for it but ohhhh even their ancestors were in love and they have to put their spirits in a jar so their ancestors can fuck in their bodies and have a Moment about it even though they were both doing great with their new partners. toni and fangs were both still bisexual and proud members of the lgbtqia+ community!!!!

and then also i just grew very very tired of the way toni was treated like i LIKED THEM when they got together i really really did. the conversion therapy plot was iconic. but after so many episodes of them just kind of Being Together it got boring. for me!! and on top of that it was the WAY them Being Together really meant. toni is cheryl’s sidekick who loves her soooo much for some reason and is there for whatever she’s doing. and cheryl was pretty shitty to her over time in a way that was partly the writers sidelining toni and treating her as an accessory but ALSO when there was the plot about the blossoms being colonizers and cheryl being like well i don’t know what to do about this toni……. and then locking herself in a house because she was so overcome with guilt….. it was all just handled very uncomfortably and poorly and would’ve been a perfectly good reason for toni to break up with her for good but noooooo. they were already getting so old by that point and yet they stillll had to get back together. and in the 50s they were just boring from the jump bc cheryl wasn’t even mean.
