my dad is so funny because he literally doesn't understand that other people, including actual toddlers, understand and process information differently than him. like, when my mom called my dad and threatened to kill me and my siblings if he didn't come home from work immediately, he never thought "hmm this must have been traumatising for a literal 4 y/o to hear their mother say and maybe i shouldn't let her be alone with our children", he just came home and attended her needs but never his children who had just heard their own mother describe how she wanted to kill them in graphic ways. i later as an adult asked him why he acted the way he did back then and he said "well, she didn't really mean what she said" bro.... dude.... first of all why take the chance when she's clearly very mentally unstable and alone with the kids and second uhhh a child hearing that their mom wants to kill them is extremely hurtful, even if we somehow were able to know she didn't actually intend on physically harming us. we eventually learned that she probably wouldn't kill us since she kept threatening it, but never acted on it, but still hearing your mom describing how she hates you so much she is imagining violently stabbing you to death with a knife to the stomach is deeply traumatising....... for anyone at any age i'd imagine tbh.... let alone someone who's depending on that parent to stay alive.... but my dad literally can't understand that. i do not doubt that he loves his kids, but he is just very fucking dumb when it comes to how other people work (or how he himself works). i think that if he had met a non-abusive woman instead of my mom, he'd probably be able to be a fine dad and learn to compensate for his shit interpersonal (and intrapersonal) skills, but man.... he made some really fucking dumb choices and thought he did the right thing 💀

I think if I were to pick one episode of any show for the entire (adult) population of the world to watch it would be CSI s6e15: Pirates of the Third Reich.

Of course our favourite feminist Lady Heather is in this episode, but she also so perfectly shows female rage. She's meticulous and logical, keeping the anger inside until she can't take it any more.

Even more important: it shows just how anyone can be taken in by extreme ideology. The killer in this episode was in the US Army, and the son of a Jewish couple. After returning from his time at the army in Berlin, he begins to mimic experiments performed in concentration camps, and killing people who don't have certain features.

On top of this, there's a rhetoric to the killer which isn't all that unlike 'crunchy moms' or antivaxxers - the killer is mimicking experiments and surgeries, and it's not implied he has any medical training. It's possible he learned in the army, and his 'skill' at branding is talked about.

Even in a crime drama, the memorabilia, certain quotes, and the harsh conditions of concentration camps (killer's victims had shaved heads, were starved, and had been branded with numbers), as well as the grossly unethical experiments taking place in the episode are a stark reminder of the recent past - what over 6 million men, women, and children were forced to endure for years. So much longer than the characters in the show had to endure.

It's shocking and confrontational, and just makes me think of how in this day and age there is an entire movement of Holocaust deniers and schools who don't teach this period of history.

There's something about this episode that really makes you connect with the victims and their families, and that's something I think a lot more non-Jewish people like myself need.

Anyways, here's a petition by the World Jewish Congress to make every school in America educate people on the Holocaust. (Check out their website - I promise you there's a lot of things happening to Jewish people that the media isn't reporting on and word needs to get out)

And remember everything we see in this episode happened to real people - and worse.
