squid game season 3 spoiler
Gi-Hun (after the inevitable Frontman reveal): if i had a nickel for every time I played the games and formed a close bond with player 001 only to be devastated when my choices directly lead to them being killed, and then later find out that not only did player 001 fake their death but turn out to be the person in charge of running the games, I would have two nickels, which isn't a lot but it's weird that it happened twice.

i ship inhun in a way that differwnt and more swagful than anyone else btw.
#TBFHHHHH i know i know i knowwww i say a lot. but i dont even ship in in the traditional sense#i dont think it will b canon and i dont rlly WANT it to b canon. its just insane like ZAMNNNNN why r u looking at each other like thatatttt#i dont think that if (IF) inho reveals his identity gihun is gonna magically b like Oh my god… okay well i like u now. more the opposite#and i dont think inho genuinely likes gihun all that much. i think hes obsessed w him in a way that borders on it but. u know#to inho gihun mostly just represents the parts of himself hes locked away. hes like the person inho used to be or cld have been#i think he DOES want whats best for gihun but like. just in his own opinion#to him whats best is to just.. pretend these issues dont exist and move on.#i think being wrapped up in the games is sickening no mattter what side ur on and he knows this. and just wants gihun to forget#i also do think he sees Something special in gihun. but its not like Ahhhh come and rule by my side 😈 LOL#yeah like i said. the recognition of the self. DONT GO DOWN THIS PATH MAN FUCK OFFFFFF#um. also yeah gihun i dont think wld have such a thrn around to like date himmmm oh my god lol#i think its likely hell end up Not killing inho for various reasons and possibly even leaving room for redemption#but yeah i dont think he wld ever trust him even. i dont think he wld let all that slide 😭😭😭#gihun x youngil is bantssss. but not real at all sadly#rhe best fic i read of them was a pre series fic where inho wasnt the front man yet. and he met gihun by chance#and kinda used him to convince himself that what he was doing was right. For The Greater Good etc#i cant remember what it was called but it was sooo good i need to find it sometime#sniff….. living in a sad world where every body mischaracterises them sooooo bad and evil.#THE BEST INHUN CONTENT was the animation of them over the megamind breakup scene. MY GOD#ill be honest. igaf abt their dynamic soooo hard but htemain reaosn i ‘ship’ them is bc theyre both INSANELY FINE. AND I NEED THEM BADLY#and. im obsessed w them separately. so of course they are making out sloppy style in my mind#ill b honest as well i dont think gihun is in the right state of mind for aany of That AT ALLLL rn either.#and as well w inho not being intersted in that way. and also he shot his brother bc it was aconflict of interests. btw.#whatever tho lol the memes and shit r funny as fuckkkkk so idc. keep fucking#anyways sangihun 🔛🔝 for fucking everrrrrer in terms of an actual ship#tho i dont think they wld ever be canon either. well i mean. for obvious reasons#but also bc i dont PERSONALLY think sangwoo wld ever allow himself that. Similarities between Inhun/457 and Hannigram; personal analysis of the attitudes that connect these characters 💭
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Starting with actor Lee Byung Hun's face. I don't even need to go into details...
• Villain disguised as a hero;
Inho/001 x Hannibal Lecter
Both wear a good guy disguise to get close to and mentally and psychologically manipulate their "target" of obsession, taking actions to impress and defend the target that sometimes make us question their villainy towards the good guy.
Both Inho and Hannibal seem to be desperately searching for a trace of understanding and similarity in someone towards themselves. Hannibal became obsessed with Will when he saw this similarity in him (both characters misunderstood by society, mentally broken and with difficulties in expressing and understanding their own emotions), and just like the cannibal, Inho saw something similar in Gihun, therefore, feeling the need to, somehow, get close to him to keep him under his control.
"But Inho and Gihun are completely different", yes, just like Hannibal and Will; that doesn't stop the characters from identifying with each other psychologically.
In my opinion, Inho saw in Gihun an ambition and confidence that piqued his interest. "But Gihun is not ambitious or self-centered" No, he is not, not materially speaking. Gihun's ambition comes from the will he has over the things he sets out to do. He is ambitious about what he wants and this ambition is accompanied by a hyper-empathy bordering on masochism, considering that Gihun returned to the game not only because of his desire to end it, but because of the guilt of having survived when people died, because of the desire to prevent other deaths. This hyper-empathy also shows up in other scenes, and this is where Will comes in.
• The hyper-empathetic good guy;
Will Graham × Seong Gihun
Unlike Will's hyper-empathy, which manifests itself through his ability to put himself in the Assassin's shoes and mentally experience the murders, Gihun's empathy is blatant, making us feel a little angry and uncomfortable with the situations in which 456 puts himself by thinking more about others than about himself. A scene that left me in agony was in season 2, in the first game, where he runs from the safe area to pick up a man who was shot in the leg. The man would have been killed anyway, but he insisted on picking him up with less than 30 seconds to go.
Unlike 456's blatant empathy, which almost makes him seem naive in several scenes (like when he gives his only extra ammunition to Inho to save himself in the future), Will's empathy is more "dark" and firm. Will doesn't trust people easily, much less Hannibal, while 456 trusts Inho/001 right away and from the first contact they are inseparable.
• Jealousy, Control and Possessiveness
I think that after their faces, these are the characteristics that Hannibal and Inho have most in common. Neither of them want their good boys to have anyone other than themselves. We can see Hannibal eliminating the people who get close to Will throughout the series, but with Inho, we follow the stages and moments of this jealousy until it reaches its peak (the final episode that resembles Mizumono). Inho observed Gihun's interactions with Jungbae (Gihun's longtime friend) in silence, just processing each moment and creating a mental bomb that would explode in the future (like when Jungbae made Gihun laugh, at night in the dorms, and the scene cuts to 001 listening under the bed in total DISGUST).
• Mizumono
Both villains analyzed here need to control their targets of obsession, manipulating them and trying to build a home in their heads, and when they realize they have been "betrayed", that's when the bomb explodes.
Hannibal felt betrayed by Will when he learned that he was helping in a plan against him behind his back (but we know that Will was so confused about his feelings and morality that he didn't even know who to go with), and then killed Abgail in front of him after a heartbreaking speech.
Inho felt betrayed by Gihun when, during a shootout in the player vs. soldier attack, Gihun said he would go inside to find the way out. Inho asked: "Shall I go with you?", and Gihun simply said that Jungbae would go with him. Later, Jungbae asks 456 why he chose him and not 001 who is more skilled with weapons, and Gihun answers that he chose him because they are friends. The next scene suggests that Inho, disappointed, listened behind the communicator, but we don't know if the communicators were on or not...
It's worth noting the expression on Inho's face when Gihun said that Jungbae was the one who would...
(POOR GUY 456 APOLOGIZE TO HIM AND TAKE HIM WITH YOU NOW
The Mizumono between 456 and 001 happens thanks to this event, when, later, after putting on his masked Boss costume, Inho goes to Gihun and Jungbae on the stairs. Just like Hannibal, he says heartbroken words (less dramatic and more angry) and eliminates Jungbae in front of Gihun.
Both killed people close and important to their targets out of possessiveness and hurt, out of a sick and incomprehensible feeling of betrayal; feelings that only they understand.
How can little sweet creatures like this be so DESTRUCTIVE.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
There doesn't seem to be a need and mutual dependence in 457 like there is in Hannigram (at least not yet, there's still one season left), the obsession and interest come from Inho, but there is a notable chemistry and tension, smiles and exchanges of OBVIOUS glances.
I know that Hannigram is complex and very intense, I'm not making an extremely serious comparison, but rather recording some points that I observed and since I love both couples, I wanted to do this. The depth of the characters is obviously different, we're just making a fan observation here. ♡

Gihun: Thank you for earlier 🙏🏻
Tumblr media
Inho: You can buy me a soju when we get out 😊
(this bitch was SO jealous that he probably decided to kill jungbae the night jungbae and gihun were discussing their post-game plans AND stole their idea, telling gihun that they should go out for soju as if HE'd come up with it! ah inho...)
(i love his silly face and how he can't take his gaze away from gihun 🤧✋🏻)
(he's smitten with his man. end of discussion!!)

I was wondering how long Junho was in a coma… i thought it was a week or something… but he was in a coma for A YEAR.
Gihun going to the airport in s2 ep 1 already happened in s1 ep 9. And this happened a year after he joined the game.
To remind you of the events of the ending of s1, Gihun found his mother dead when he went home after winning the game. Then he lies down and hugs his dead mother. Then it cuts to “1 year later” and then Ilnam died. There were no time skips anymore when he went to the airport to see his daughter. He dyed his hair red first then left money to Saebyeok’s brother and Sangwoo’s mother.
Season 2 picked up where season 1 ended. Which is 1 year later. And then they show us Junho waking up. No time skips or changes or anything. His mother was frantic “MY SON JUST OPENED HIS EYES”
He was in a coma for a year yall 😭😭😭
Inho better have FELT BAD. Or WORSE. He couldn’t do anything but to WAIT. For ONE WHOLE YEAR. Is his little brother gonna wake up???? Or did he really kill him??? Did he ever visit him at the hospital discretely? And just cried there and said sorry over and over again and also begged for him to wake up even though no one could hear him???

Ghost Sangwoo: you couldn't have gotten on that plane?
Newly Ghost Gihun: You couldn't have let the fucking money go?
------
Ghost Ali: *to Gihun* Hyung! I can't believe you're here with us! I was so upset about what happened! When I saw you joined the games again I was so shocked! you could say I--
Ghost Sangwoo: Please don't Ghost Ali: *glancing at Sangwoo* lost my marbles Ghost Sangwoo: I said I was sorry!
------ Ghost Saebyeok: but still. how did you not get that something was off with that In Ho person? his fake name gave it away Newly Ghost Gihun: ah. but there is one thing you failed to discover about me.
Ghost Saebyeok: and what is that? Newly Ghost Gihun: I am an idiot ---- Ghost Sangwoo: the former cop, the salesman, AND the Frontman. I didn't know you'd turn into a slut after I died. Newly Ghost Gihun: okay. First of all, I was already a slut. Second, I didn't even sleep with any of the men you mentioned. Third, you had many chances to fuck me but instead you decided to fuck me over. Ghost Sangwoo...does the offer still stand? Newly Ghost Gihun: of course the offer still stands! Ghost Saebyeok: First of all, you could have had any conversation in front me. Second, you could have had any conversation in front of me. Third, you could have had any conversation in front of me. ----- Ghost Ali: Hyung? Can I ask you a question? Newly Ghost Gihun: of course! you can ask me anything. Ghost Ali: what was up with the red hair? Newly Ghost Gihun: you can ask me anything I can answer. ---- Newly Ghost Gihun: In the end, I couldn’t convince enough people to stop playing. I failed to end the games, so… I don’t know if it was all worth it. Ghost Ali: Hyung... *stops when he notices someone walking down the street* Isn't...isn't that that the winner of this year's game? SQ Winner: there. This check is for 1 billion won. You can use this to pay off your debts and your mom's hospital bills. Person: thank you so much! I promise I'll pay you back! Once I pay my debts I'll borrow more money-- SQ Winner: no! you don't have to do that. If..if you want to pay me, you can do it on your pace at whenever is truly convinient for you. Or..or you don't have to pay me. At all. Person: this is a lot of money. you're practically giving it away. SQ Winner: no. I'm just..I'm just making you sure you don't go through.. *pauses* any more hardships. Person: thank you! I'll never forget this! SQ Winner: you're welcome! and stay away from hot guys with brief cases! Person: okay...? Ghost Ali: *to the winner who obviously can't hear him* good for you! Ghost Saebyeok: the principle you were fighting for..about how not everyone will succumb to greed and that there's still for humanity..I think we just proved it with this person. Newly Ghost Gihun: but it's just one person Ghost Ali: maybe..maybe the person they helped would pay it forward and those people would do the same! Ghost Saebyeok: And then they might end up helping more and more people. Ghost Sangwoo: and maybe that would be enough. Newly Ghost Gihun: yeah... maybe that would be enough. ----- Inho: Seong Gi hun was just an example of why you shouldn't try to... *continues to talk about Gi hun* Ghost Sangwoo: oh. Stop obssesing over Gi hun, already! You lost. His after life ass is mine. Ghost Ali: I mean no ill will, but the Front Man is kind of better looking than you, Hyung. Ghost Sae byeok: yeah, I think if he died and turned into a ghost he could have a shot with Gihun. Ghost Sangwoo: I hate both of you Ghost Saebyeok: oh what are you going to do? Kill us? Ghost Sangwoo: Ghost Ali: Ghost Saebyeok: Ghost Sangwoo: I said I was sorry!

What are your thoughts on the idea that Inho's obsession with Gihun might do with the fact that Gihun reminds him of his dead wife?
I'm biased because I absolutely eat it up. I never been the same after seeing a post here that compared Gihun's s1 smiling photo with a photo of Inho's wife smiling.
There's also the fact that in s2 ep4, Inho called his wife stubborn, and how theres no point in arguing with her once she set her mind on something (going through her pregnancy despite her being very sick).
It made me think of Gihun's dedication of finding the Recruiter/Salesman, his insistance on being put back in the game...and him not listening to Inho when being told to get on the plane.
With this in mind, Inho's "Just get on the plane. It's for your own good." can be read more that just one man telling another man with who he shares similar trauma, to get the good life he doesn't have (but it's absolutely valid!!)
It could also be Inho (without realizing it) pleading for Gihun (his wife) to listen to him (the doctors), and (this time) survive. But just like with his wife, Gihun isn't budging with his decision. He made up his mind, go argue with a wall.
(Now it doesn't mean that Inho saw his wife in Gihun in an instance. It happens slowly as Inho gets closer to him)
Hi! Thanks for the question. I think I know the post you’re referring to—my shipper brain absolutely devoured that too, not gonna lie. XD
Even beyond the shipping lens, though, everything you’ve said really resonates. It feels like the core of their dynamic, doesn’t it? In-ho is clearly drawn to something about Gi-hun’s refusal to compromise on his principles, his unshakable belief in humanity, and his conviction that things can still turn out for the better. The only other person In-ho has explicitly mentioned as being just as stubborn as Gi-hun is his late wife, which feels like a significant parallel.
Now, of course, this is all speculation, and we won’t know In-ho’s full motivations until Season 3 (hopefully) sheds some light. But I don’t think In-ho has ever truly moved on from his wife’s death. He’s still grieving, still carrying the weight of that loss. He’s angry—angry at himself for not being there when his wife and child died, angry at the world for the circumstances that led to it, and probably angry at the Games themselves for existing. (I’ll die on the hill that In-ho hates the Games, despite being their enforcer.) He’s also angry at humanity at large for failing people in need, for letting the world get to this point.
And I think there’s a part of him that’s angry at his wife, too, (don't kill me, hear me out). She was self-sacrificing to a fault, willing to risk her own life to save their unborn child. That mirrors what we see in Gi-hun, especially at the end of Season 1. In the final game, after Sang-woo is defeated, Gi-hun refuses to abandon his morals to win, even when the easier path is right in front of him. That kind of unyielding determination, that refusal to bend—even at great personal cost—has to strike a nerve with In-ho.
Since In-ho can’t confront his late wife or tell her she was wrong to risk it all, to leave him alone, he directs all that unresolved grief and anger toward Gi-hun instead. Gi-hun becomes a constant, painful reminder of everything In-ho lost—and everything he’s come to resent about the world.
So, what does In-ho do? He sets out to break Gi-hun. To tear apart everything and everyone Gi-hun cares about until all that’s left is despair. Maybe then, In-ho can finally say: “See? There’s no point. None of it means anything. You were wrong—just like she was wrong.”
It’s a cruel and calculated move, but also deeply human. If he can prove that Gi-hun’s ideals and morals are meaningless, it would, in a twisted way, justify the choices In-ho has made and the person he’s become.
In the end, it’s not just about Gi-hun or his late wife. It’s about In-ho’s own pain, his need to make sense of the senseless, and his desperate attempt to validate the path he’s taken—even if it’s at the expense of someone who still believes in the good.

S3 ending
"You bastard!" Gihun spat at the Frontman, his voice dripping with pure hatred and venom. "You say that we're racehorse, but the real horse is you and the rest of your rich friends..Hiding behind your little masks like the cowards you all are"
The Frontman said nothing in return. His gloved hands moving- pulling out his hood and mask in an instant, revealing a familiar face-
Gihun grasped
"...Youngil?.." He said. His voice and face soft, confused for a moment, before it harden again. Pure anger and hatred now written all over it. "You..- how could you? What..what even was the point of doing that..Is Youngil even your real name!?"
"Youngil never existed. My name is Hwang Inho" The Frontman -Inho- said. His voice baring now emotion as if all of this meant nothing to him. Gihun guessed that it didn't.
He wanted to yell, to scream, to lunch at the man that had killed Jungbae-make him regret the decision he'd made- but he found himself unable to move.
"..Why?" He simply asked.
Inhos face frowned "..Why? Well. To prove my point"
Gihun looked at him in the eyes "... Your point..?"
Inho steadied himself "That humanity is trash. That everyone is the same, greedy and selfish" he paused for a moment "I must say..you proved me right"
Gihun felt himself growing even more angry
"You..you put those poor people through those fucked up death games..you have your little dogs kill them..kill eachother..you throw away people's lives..for..for that!?"
"Didn't you do the same?" Inho told him, his voice still stoic but the look in his eyes was different. Gihun couldn't put his finger on what it was, but he could feel that it had changed
He gritted his teeth
"Don't you dare say that -!" But before he could finish his sentence Inho interrupted him
""For the greater good", right?"
And that made Gihun pause.
He thought about it..he had let people in his team die..he didn't warn them about the attack he knew was coming..he had led people in their demise during a rebellion doomed to fail..People who only wanted to go home.. now dead because of his decisions. Because of him.
And he felt his anger be replaced by an overwhelming feeling of regret. Of despair. So bad that it made his heart feel like it had been shattered to a million pieces.
I wanted to save everyone but in the end..I only ended up spilling even more blood.. maybe he's right.. I'm just as bad as everyone else.. He thought
Inho walked closer to him "It's over Gihun, admit your defeat"
But he couldn't reply. As much as he wanted to say something. Whether that might be denial, refusal or a threat he wasn't sure- he just wanted to say something. But he couldn't.
But then...
The door flew open
"Who dared hurt my kitten?"
Both Inho and Gihun looked up
Standing Infront of the door was non other than Player 218 himself.
"Sangwoo!" Gihun said with happiness
"What the fuck didn't you die 3 years ago!?" Inho yelled
Sangwoo walked up to Inho
"It was you wasn't it?"
Inho swallowed nervously. He knew he was fucked.
Sangwoo punched him hard in the face. So hard he went flying out of the room. His back eventually made contact with a wall, breaking his spine. He died.
"Sangwoo! You saved me!" Gihun said as he got up and hugged his friend
"Of course Gihun. No one gets away with hurting my kitten" Sangwoo replied
They got married after and lived a happy life
The end

Although I thoroughly enjoy the 457 ship in a crack-kinda way, of course, canonically I could never see it happening. I do think Inho has a great interest in Gihun, I wouldn't call it romantic in a serious context.
Inho's been hardened by his job. I think he shares a sentiment about the players with the Recruiter. As shown in Bread and Lottery, people in desperate situations tend to be more accepting of risks, instead of choosing an option that provides an instant, tangible, useful item (like the bread).
The Recruiter uses this fact to villify poor and desperate people, twisting it into "Well, now you've chosen this yourself" situation. He thinks of these people as trash, because, in his mind, they refuse to help themselves. I think Inho shares a similar ideal, although the vile acts of the players to gain more money he sees every year mostly contributes to this worldview.
He himself understands most of all the desperation of, firstly, ending up in the games, and secondly, winning them. I don't think Inho was as lucky as to survive the games via what is basically plot armour. I think he probably had to kill people with his bare hands to get to the final prize.
Inho sees humanity itself as flawed, as people will hurt each other and kill and fight the moment things get dire. He knows himself as the best example of this. If he can fall into such depravity, then what is stopping every other person from doing so if placed under the right conditions?
Gihun holds almost a directly opposite view. He is naive, viewing people as automatically good unless proven otherwise. He wants to insist that people have good intentions, and that humanity isn't innately corrupt. Maybe Inho even had a similar mindset to Gihun in the beginning, perhaps a little tainted from his days as a police officer, but more optimistic nonetheless.
Inho wants to see him fail, amused by his naivety, and yet another, small, subconscious part of him probably wants him to be proven correct. Inho allows him to stage a coup, allows him to kill tens of guards, joins in, and watches with great interest how Gihun thinks he'll be the saviour to stop the Games.

Second to last installment of Material Girl:
“Here, let me,” Inho muttered, dusting his fingers off on the edge of his shirt and rising from his seat. He slapped Seok-woo’s hands away from his collar and took over with the windsor knot. “Jagiya, how was this batch?” Gihun called from the kitchen. “Delicious,” Inho informed him, looping one end of Cho Seok-woo’s tie over the other, “best ones so far.” “Really?” Cho Seok-woo murmured between them. “No, the bottom is completely raw, but he somehow burnt the top. And he’s not getting any better,” Inho disclosed in a low monotone. “I’m afraid baking is not one of Seong Gihun’s many talents.” “You ate like three.” “I have a problem,” Inho admitted. “Hyung, I just threw up a little in my mouth from how cute that was.”
Almost at the end of this one! It was super fun to imagine them in this little AU world. Gihun being the dumb milf that he is, and them being so nauseatingly domestic together. Although Dora the Explorer appears to be several degrees dumber...
Also this pic going around as when they were younger is killing me...it would be too cute.

their relationship is secret bc gihun is junho's best friend and he'd kill him if he found out.
inho's office is like a siren's call for them bc no matter how likely they are to get caught, they always end up having sex there.
gihun still lives with his mom obviously and one day inho decided that he wanted to see where gihun lives. cut to them having sex on gihun's childhood bed, trying to be quiet since the walls are thin and the neighbors are noisy! (gihun's mom hears abt him having a good looking man at their house but he lies that it was just someone trying to sell them christianity).

since they handcuffed gihun to the bed, it occurred to me that if there were no guards present to defend him from other players who were enraged by his attempts to end the game, some people, such as player 100, idk, might attempt to kill him, and he'd be unable to defend himself, and it might be too late by the time the others noticed.
just thinking 🙌🏻
(inho wouldn't send him back to the dorm defenseless, would he? bro, c'mon, overcome your anger and take care of your husband!!)
Tumblr media
(he sits in his desolate room, no lights, no music, JUST ANGERRRR!! brooding over what just happened, knowing that gihun will most likely never forgive him and that he fucked up 🙂)

Canonically, like with no ship or fandom glasses, do you think Gihun is gonna try to “fix” or “break” Inho?
Cause on one hand Gihun is absolutely spiteful of him, but i can also see how he’d try to persuade Inho to stop this madness and come home to his brother.
Just wondered what your thoughts were <3
Thanks for the ask, anon!
That’s a very interesting question, and it made me think a lot!
Gi-hun is the type of person who would want to fix In-ho. That’s just who he is. His compassion and empathy define him, and he's the type of person who is ready to see the good in people.
But Gi-hun’s resentment toward In-ho runs deep. In-ho's sin against Gi-hun is just stack upon stack of horrible things. Not only was In-ho working with the people that caused Sang-woo, Sae-byeok, and Ali to die, but In-ho shot Jung-bae in cold blood. And In-ho murdered Young-il too.
So I don’t think Gi-hun would want to fix In-ho, or better yet, he shouldn't want to. In-ho wasn’t a victim of circumstance or someone who lost his way, maybe he started out as that but later on he willingly chose to be part of the system that put Gi-hun and his friends through hell, the system that exploited and discarded countless lives for entertainment. He didn’t just participate in it, he enforced it. That’s not someone Gi-hun should try to save.
But I don't think Gi-hun would mercilessly kill In-ho, I just don't think Gi-hun would pull a Steven Universe on him.
If anything, I think Gi-hun would leave it up to Jun-ho to decide what In-ho's fate shold be because, at the end of the day, Jun-ho has a personal connection to him. Gi-hun might hate In-ho for everything he’s done, but he would recognize that Jun-ho is In-ho’s brother, and that history is something Gi-hun can’t and shouldn’t interfere with. No matter how much Gi-hun resents In-ho, he doesn’t have the same personal stake in their relationship that Jun-ho does.
And maybe, deep down, there’s a part of Gi-hun that wants In-ho to choose good, if only for his brother’s sake. But that doesn’t mean Gi-hun wants to be there to see it happen. After everything, I think he’d want nothing to do with In-ho at all.

hi....another long post sorry but i wanted to talk about inhun.
spoilers for s1 and s2 of squid game if applicable
to begin, i just want to say these men are the bane of my existence (not really) just a lot of things i piece together for them hurt me.
inhun as a whole (inho + gihun) is heavily one sided whether you want it to or not. inho feels everything for gihun, from fury to obession, but gihun doesnt feel shit for inho. gihun feels deep admiration and what you can call love for youngil but he doesn't feel the same for inho. as a concept, this ship is technically one sided (if there's any true love at all).
i believe inho's obsession with gihun started early. like some people say, it could've started with how close gihun and ilnam got, and how gihun treats ilnam. that could've started it but i also believe that it didn't fully start there. im sure inho and ilnam figured that someone will get connected to ilnam, it wasn't a huge surprise that gihun did. no i think it started around dalgona and not for the fanon reasons. i feel like gihun started "being interesting" to the vips during that, some for the way he got that umbrella out (gross) but also for how quickly he controlled the crowd. i think inho started paying more attention to gihun and his group there. he started getting more and more interested as he watched gihun and his empathy go through the game. how he didn't harm anyone purposefully, how he was only killing poeple if totally necessary (i.e. tug of war).
i think inho finally saw him when he screamed about the guy deoksu killed. when he realized that yelling at the guards wasn't enough so he started yelling at the cameras. he finally saw player 456.
he started watching closer after that. the obsession became deepset and hungry when instead of killing his friend and taking the money (winning the game), gihun wanted to end the game and go home with sangwoo. that he was willing to give up 45.6 billion won to save his friend who tried to kill him not even seconds prior. the way inho stared and didn't say a word after the guard said he wanted to end the games there. i think thats when the obsession became something more than fascination.
i think the obsession is why inho himself went in that limousine. i don't think that is a normal thing that they do for winners, i think that overall it was a breach of the rules, to sit there with gihun. to personally talk to him. to tell him ways to make it all easier. even if it was a normal thing, i think the most that would normally happen would be a congrats and thats all. then again there was something deeply intimate about the limousine scene (not directly sexual). The way inho was unmasked and talked to gihun without having any worry. that he gave him ways to ease the pain (i.e. "think of it all as a dream, and for you it was a good one").
though i think that breach of the rules inho did made gihun obsessed with finding him again. i think hearing his voice and reason for things made gihun want to find him. that was a direct cause of him searching for the frontman for three years. then the phone call made him angry, made him spend THREE YEARS looking for him.
then the next limo scene. that one is two sides of the same obsession, want and need vs vengence and revenge, face to face. i think theres something so deeply interesting between the first and second. that somehow gihun is still at a disadvantage. first one he was tied up and blindfolded, now he's alone in this limo (to his knowledge). that he had to talk to this man he's been looking for through a pig. though seeing that inho WAS there was something else. that he personally welcomed gihun back. i dont know every damn scene with these two are deeply intimate.
then the second red light green light. i just keep thinking about inho's reaction to seeing how quick all these people followed what gihun said. i think this is the same reaction he had to how quick people followed gihun in dalgona. i think this, whether its going to happen or not, would be when inho confirms that gihun would be a good frontman alongside him. that this theory comes into play because inho believes that he can genuinely be a good frontman because how fast people follow him. that this is inho realizing how hard it is going to be to keep gihun in check.
part of me thinks inho wasn't meant to go into the games, that seeing how quick people listented to gihun is when he decided to go in.
the vote and inho pressing to stay was a primary backlash to gihun trying to keep them there. i believe he broke the tie this way to fuck with gihun more.
then the personal teasing with dalgona, talking to him like he is a normal person with normal person emotions. how inho creates such a personality.
then how quickly gihun magnets to this personality. like inho talked about his dead wife and "why he was in the games" to get gihun to trust him, but gihun trusted him deeply without that story. gihun is so easy and quick to trust, inho didn't even need to tell that story (i.e. the dalgona nightmare and "youngil" being front and center). gihun connects to this man within HOURS.
he cares deeply and makes sure he's okay. that's why that betrayal hurts me so much. thats why the unmasking is going to rip my heart out. gihun trusted youngil so deeply that when he learns who he really is, it's going to kill him. it's going to make him hurt and grieve. if they do the scene right, it's going to fucking HURT.
then again, inho mightve made sure gihun connected so closely to youngil as a lesson. i read a fic or something with that thought. that inho made such a man, such a personality (who technically is a mix of mostly everyone from s1 he got close to) just to be able to betray him. to hurt gihun and show him how dangerous blind trust is.
i dont know theres something about inhun that is so deep, dark, and desperate. there's something that is so fascinating about them to me and i can go on forever but this is already extremely long.
inhun is a ship that is more obsession than love. both are obsessed for different reasons and the only love that is in it at all is between gihun and inho's fake personality. its a deeply dark and toxic thing and ive never seen a ship like this before. its fascinating to me and i LOVE the dynamic and how much it makes me think.
anyways, any other questions about this or my other gihun post pls send asks. im willing to answer anything..

A corruption arc ending in Gihun becoming a Frontman is a more satisfying end to the story than Inho sees the error of his ways and dies to redeem himself - yes or no?
hii thanks for the ask!
i think no. here is why:
it won’t be a satisfying end for either character.
gi hun has been set up as a compassionate person who wants to end the games since season 1. he is flawed and has been through enough to deeply change the man, yes, but i do not see a satisfying ending in having him become completely corrupted. it just doesn’t make enough sense for his character. maybe they will use something against him and force him into that role, or maybe he pretends/agrees to be the frontman and he uses that to end the games. the actor did hint at his character maybe being the frontman.
i wouldn’t exactly be satisfied with a redemption arc for in-ho either. in ho is a deeply complex character who does feel remorse for some of the things he does. In the past, he was likely a good man. I believe he was probably corrupted/manipulated into the role himself. however, he’s irredeemable now. he has too much blood on his hands and no viewer would change their mind about him after he killed jung-bae.
but i guess if i had to choose an ending, i would be more satisfied with in-ho dying as a means to end the games rather than gi-hun becoming evil.
