Every now and then I see a post that reminds me that most non-kin have an idea of the otherkin community that's defined more by people who made fun of us than by our community itself

If you heard about otherkin through general tumblr osmosis but never made an effort to actually understand us, your mental image of otherkin is mostly likely informed by people who pretended to be otherkin to start drama with the express intent to get people to hate us. It was really common a while back for anti-kin to create blogs posing as otherkin and post absurd, ridiculous, and inflammatory things like "I'm plantkin and keeping houseplants is slavery" or "I'm dragonkin and I ate my mom's jewelry". If you actually knew anything about the community it was fairly easy to figure out that these blogs were trolls, but most of the people on tumblr at the time either didn't know enough to be able to tell, or didn't even consider that they might be fake

And the most upsetting part? It fucking worked. So many people still seem to think that those posts were genuine reflections of what being otherkin means and how we act or talk about our kin identities

of course <3. i've already done 3 posts about them as parents (seperately) so if you want to go read those, you can scroll through my master list (pinned in my intro post) until you find them (there's jameson as a girl/boy dad and avery as a boy mom i think). two other people made these (maybe more idk) so i apologize if any of these are similar. hope you enjoy.

they definitely would not be strict parents. they trust their kids to be responsible and stuff so they don't really have any rules.

although they have a ton of money, jameson and avery make sure that their kids don't take everything they have for granted. they involve them in the foundation where they donate to charity, talk to them about societal issues, and could even make them do some community service.

they stay at hawthorne house most of the time, but they do also own another house (or maybe a condo) that they go to whenever hawthorne house is unsafe/they want to get away for a while.

their kids were homeschooled for around a year while they travelled the world together. they both love travelling and wanted their kids to see the world just like they did.

idk if someone else said this, but jameson would definitely be the type of dad who tried to learn their kids' generation's slang. unlike other parents, he would succeed (and he somehow doesn't make in cringe)

they didnt post any pictures of their kids on their socials until they were old enough to decide whether or not they wanted to be on their parents socials knowing the risks.

their kids each have their own wing in hawthorne house (literally all of jameson's brothers' kids do)

i don't really see the kids having a favorite parent. they both prefer one of their parents for different reasons. avery is the one to go to if you need advice/comfort and jameson is their go to when they need a laugh or something fun to do

jameson and avery are so affectionate with one another that their kids don't find it weird. they're so used to it that this is what's normal to them.

they'd have a girl and a boy (maybe a third kid but i think they'd keep it at two. i can see them either being twins or them being 2 years apart or smth).

although they want their kid to do well in school, they're not strict with grades. they don't want their kids to not give a shit about school, they want them to try their best, but avery and jameson make it known to their kids that their grades do not affect their worth.

they're not the type of parents who care about what their kids want to do in the future. they don't need them to have some huge paying job. if their kid wants to become a hairdresser, that's fine by them.

jameson and avery would sort of become their kids' best friends. not in some weird way, but they're very close and tell each other everything. even their kids get along and rarely fight.

this one is a bit sadder but they'd definitely have a discussion about consent very early on bc they know that growing up in the spotlight can be dangerous and people might try to hurt them. they would obviously explain it in a kid friendly way at first.

they'd definitely get a pet. i can imagine the pet being all of the hawthorne's pet (like the four brothers, their wives/gfs (i hc max and xander don't get married but stay together), and their kids)

no matter what alisa and avery's other lawyers said, her kids never did interviews until they were old enough to do one and to decide they wanted to do one. they aren't required to attend events and stuff unless they want to. alisa and avery had a few fights over this until alisa backed off and realized that they were just kids.

they wouldn't have kids until their late 20s. they'd want a few years to themselves, travelling the world, before they have kids (i can also imagine them not having kids at all but eh)

they hate excluding their kids when they make important decisions. they make sure their kids know their opinion is important to them. for example, earlier i said they'd get another house or a condo to get away from hawthorne house sometimes, well they'd ask for their kids' opinion on which place they should buy and stuff.

when their kids don't get along (very rare cause i imagine their kids to be best friends), they put them in a room together (they're in the room next to them or right outside) and don't let them get out until they apologize (they're also very strict (?) with apologies. they want their kids to properly apologize if they did smth wrong like 'im sorry for .... i did it bc... but ik its wrong and ill never do it again. next time i feel like this ill...' or smth like that)

they have movie nights every week. each week, a different person gets to choose the movie or the series. they all settle down in the theatre room at hawthorne house with tons of popcorn and candy and binge watch movies (or just one if they're tired).

Once you were done, she’d coo you and help you recover, making sure it doesn’t get infected or smushed, giving you the best tattoo aftercare ever.

Once it was fully healed, she’d use it to tease you, brushing a finger over it, knowing you’re sensitive in that area. She’d tease the living daylight out of you in bed, making you cry out her name to stop the teasing.

Shanks

Shanks would first be confused by what a tramp stamp is, but once he digs into his memory, he remembers what it is and what it means.

He’d 100% want to choose the design or be a part of choosing the design because if he’s going to stare at it all day, he’d want it to be a beautiful sight.

As you’re getting your tattoo, he’s by your side, telling you a bunch of stories about his days on sea, trying to distract you from the needles poking into your skin. 

He ignores your cries and screams and his fingers turning purple simply by raising his voice over your screams.

Once you were done with your tattoo, Shanks immediately turned into a father figure, caring for you and treating your tattoo until it was fully healed.

Once it was fully healed, he’d always make sure to make a comment about it, especially in bed. He’d show it off to his crew and friends, boasting about how his partner got a tramp stamp for him (you did not get a tramp stamp for him).

All in all, Shanks adores the tattoo and loves it on your body, and maybe if you convince him with two bottles of alcohol in his system, he might get one too.

Luffy

100% when you tell Luffy you want to get a tramp stamp he’s gonna get it with you.

Boy doesn’t even know what it is, he just wants to match with you and get the same tramp stamp.

my husband and i were chatting last night while cleaning up dinner; he pitched a fun idea that could be a great topic of discussion in the simblr community. maybe this should be a SQotD submission - IDK but: he asked how i feel about sims 2 expansion packs now compared to when they came out. initially, i said "yeh idk, i guess the same?" and that was that.

i put a more thought towards his question and realized, i do feel a bit differently about some of the EPs now compared to when they came out - all under the cut!

university: i was SO SO excited about it bc i didnt go away to college like my friends did so it was a way to vicariously-ish get the experience and a bonus was zombies! now tho? yea i still enjoy it even tho the dormies eventually start pissing me off bc theyre just so damn dumb lmao

nightlife: same level of excitement. i LOVE cities and i love vampires too. this scratched the "i need to go downtown chicago" itch when i couldnt from lack of transportation and safey being a v smol person afraid of the worst. i played all my sims in "downtown", specifically, 107 Custer Blvd. I made-over that lot dozens of times, it's seen dozens of different families and had a million different lifetimes. Nightlife still stands as my fave TS2 EP and 107 Custer - my all-time favorite lot to play.

freetime: we all have hobbies right? it was all fine and good until the fire nation attacked i was being inundated with a ton of hobby spam, be it notifications, the hobby sims and the lots. it was a lot. its far more manageable now thanks to mods so i dont mind playing into hobbies. i do appreciate the return of the genie tho!

apartment life: ok, look. i thought this was super cool then but now, after living in apartments myself, i despise them and dont put my sims in them anymore either. i do love the witches tho, prob my fave aspect of this pack!

Manuela, Ai and Aspen ARE A MESSSSSS they are known as the Wizards of Stellar Point (the three most powerful magic users in stellar point's) and some DRAMA occurred between them. im p sure i have vague posted about it (maybe before the story changed?) but basically Manuela and Ai where the only wizards, they where dating and it was kinda a cute thing until some random white boy named Jack got magical powers and as an adult ran off into the woods of Stellar Point and made himself a wizard tower using magic, changed his named to Aspen and insisted his was a wizard, for MONTHS he demanded Manuela and Ai take this seriously until Ai, fed up with it, got into an actual argument with him where he tried turning her into a bird, as a response she cursed him to lose his magic and to have horrible visions of the future, this stopped the bird transformation but left her stuck as a bird with a humans face, this led Manuela to break up with Ai but the two stayed on good terms unitl Ai, in an attempt to be human again, stole the humanity of a child. then Manuela stopped talking to her and started taking painting classes taught by Nadia.

his parents tried their best to help him but the therapists they took him too didnt believe him when he told them about Mr Red (or when they did believe him, they only believed him if they were reading lines that weren't there and assuming that Mr Red was a real living guy in the woods and jumping to conclusions about it) so maybe like a month or two after Jane died he just... stopped talking, bc what was the point of speaking if no one was going to listen? and then he stopped talking to anyone ever until half way through his freshman year of highschool when he told Cody to "gargle my cock and balls"

Ive been wondering lately if I really do have bipolar with psychotic features or if I have schizoaffective. Idk why the idea of bipolar though is so offensive to me lol. I think its because I never really feel grandiose and thats just an unfair part of the bargain.

The main difference I found is psychosis symptoms outside of mood episodes. Ive been trying to figure that out, but as my moods are really long, Im not sure. I was thinking maybe that is true because this year I seem to launch into paranoia in a single afternoon instead of over months. But thats associated with a stressed mood, not anything neutral? Idk. My paranoia is generally after Ive become fully stressed, but honestly, it is possible I have delusions constantly. How do you even know? I know I have OCD but I am so fixated on death that it might be more delusional than just OCD - like I do have rituals but its mainly just stressful thoughts that Im being haunted and the proof was a dead bug.

But the past week I noticed I shifted into a different phase. Im suddenly energetic or agitated. Like laughing hysterically, talking a lot, becoming really upset or angry, sad, overwhelmed, and constantly unreasonably scared. Everything is a threat. I seem to be really focused on fires happening for some reason. I am sleeping way more than normal, actually my sleep is suddenly really stressful. I dont go to sleep unless I take meds but thats normal for me, but now I cant get up. Ill wake up and its like Im magnetised to the bed and am stuck for awhile until I actually wake up. I sleep 12-14 hours but when I look at my Fitbit data its somehow only 5-6 hours in that time Im asleep. I know it, too. Its like Im not asleep and am in my room but dreaming in it. I didnt even realize I was so upset about this until I saw a post by someone talking about training their service dog to wake them up properly and asking how to do it and I could cry with the relief if I could figure out something mine could do to help me with it.

I generally always get told Im too self aware to have any psychosis issues and I think Im good at sounding self aware but Im actually not at all. I have no idea what Im thinking or feeling, Im guessing based on any knee jerk things that may have come out. Like last year I was in the psych ward for paranoia, but I hadnt even noticed or was able to communicate, but can see it now, that I was actually in danger of attacking people because I believed they were going to kill me first, and that had been my motivation to go in. And it wasnt even the person I said I was paranoid of.

I cant even figure out if my hand hurts or not. I have no idea what Im thinking or feeling. I know Im jumpy and on level 100 of agitation. I just suddenly start crying, Im overwhelmed with proofs of life and death. If someone tells me a joke I literally cry laughing. My words are mixing up and I feel like I cant say anything. I read things Ive written and even Im like what?? What does that even say. I know I am having PTSD symptoms - thats a given with me. I know for months Ive been hyperfocused on it, its been a source of anger outbursts.

Like for some reason the thought of romance or sex or any relationship sends me into a flying rage. My dog licking my other dog disturbs me so deeply I immediately lose it and have to run outside or throw something. People talking about love and needing people makes me feel so revolted. Ive been half dating someone and they mentioned kissing and Im ready to set myself and everyone else on fire. I cant stand the thought of desire and needing someone and craving them it is disturbing and I want to be sick thinking about it. But Im not normally like this at all. Not at all.

I am asexual and aromantic and my friend keeps making sex jokes and referencing my being asexual and I swear to god Im going to throw up on him or hit him with a wooden spoon. Havent decided yet.

Kon is nonbinary and transfem to me and i do have a more specific way this happens in mind which is he starts questioning his gender after already figuring out hes not straight, and this is a few years down the line post sb 2011, so hes getting comfortable living on the farm and having a group of friends there, being a part of the kent family (hes never had a family before!!) and its because of that new personal comfort and safety that he can think more about himself as a person and not just. An icon with a role.

I read his tt03 era as his big Repression Period (along with cassie) where he figures he has to be a Normal Real Boy so he ditches the 90s superboy charm for a more traditionally masculine look, which maybe works for his secret identity but isnt what he actually enjoys. So later he starts growing out his hair and tiptoes around more flashy costumes which are daunting now, because kon has a lot of hate for his younger self for being foolish and a try hard, and this all reminds him of himself back then.

Its a slow process but he will get there eventually and i think living with ma helps a lot. Being away from the public eye and with someone who wouldn't judge him for not wanting to look as masculine would do kon wonders. Also he hangs out a lot with the yj girls, and i imagine cissie would eventually she starts putting makeup on him for funsies (and bc cassie doesnt let her) which kon has many feelings about. No worries! OK SO long story:

the summer before last (2021) I went to the upper peninsula of michigan for what was basically a paid internship to work in literally the beautific middle of nowhere. there was sparse cell service and no data at all unless you went to a specific spot in town (15 miles from my cabin) and didnt move

I was housed in a detached cabin with no electricity or plumbing so to eat or clean myself I had to trek to the main cabin (with The Bathroom). I had downloaded A LOT of books on my phone and was being weird about using the outhouse (I got over it).

it was very dry and I already have fucked up sinuses so within 24 hours of getting there i was having mild headaches. about noon the next day I had a nosebleed and went "huh" and attributed it to the dryness

day 2 I had a slightly larger nosebleed and upped my liquids intake

day 3 I had a rather profuse nosebleed about 5pm and then again after my shower at around 8pm

day 4 I went to the store and bought a saline nasal spray. I had a nosebleed at noon. I sat down to read a book on my phone and 2 hours later realized I had not turned a page or remembered what I was doing for those 2 hours. I had another nosebleed in the evening.

day 5 I had a migraine upon waking up, which came with some bad nausea. I had to ask out of work. because of my sickness I didnt go to the main cabin until dinner time and had a mild nosebleed later

day 6 my roommate said "maybe its the mold?" and I said "what mold?" in exactly the style of that one comic. but it was there. the mold. the black spots of mold on the bathroom ceiling. I drove into town to access the internet and discovered the symptoms of black mold exposure. no one else was having this problem, I was just particularly sensitive to it

the owner and my sort-of boss used bleach to scrub the ceiling and from then on I stayed tf out of the main cabin. anytime I was there for anything the bathroom door was closed and I took really really fast showers

yo ok so i haven't actually read the manga however. i have seen devilman crybaby and its got Issues imo. i can tend to break down most of my main complaints into 4 or 5 points. it might get a bit long so imma put it beneath the cut :) also because spoilers for specific things perhaps

possesion anime in general is kind of a hit or miss concept to me. imo the only "possession"/gets powers type anime i really care for is parasyte. tokyo ghoul didnt do much for me from what i saw, havent seen csm but it doesnt do much for me either. likewise devilman just... doesnt really do it for me as far as its premise and initial set up goes (side note: does code geass count here? i have so many thoughts on that series it wouldnt fit here but regardless)

i feel bad for saying this but i really do not like devilman crybaby's artstyle. like it just does not look good to me. im okay with different artstyles but this one just looks ugly. sorry

i feel like the story is just. poor. not good. it starts much too slow for how insane the story gets on later. if you take a show it influenced (evangelion), its pretty up front with its premise up front. i know people have made jokes for years about how eva gets weird and its a bait and switch but like.... not really? like at its core it is a mecha show about kids fighting aliens in robots and even with the character study stuff it doesnt veer that far from that initial premise. devilman crybaby has... a nightclub rave where akira gets posssessed so some white boy can play god while akira does good at track? like its not a strong start and it only gets worse from there. again, i know the reason the end of evangelion ends the way it does is BECAUSE of devilman but like. they just did not execute that ending correctly at all the final few episodes feels so constrained and so much happens in such a short period that it feels like the ultimate anticlimax. its hard for me to care about any of what happens because so much happens in so little time. its worthless and makes me feel nothing as a viewer. these bitches gay! good for them. good for them. what's not good for them is the story. cuz it sucks.

this ties in with my general distaste for the story but i also feel the characters are super weak. again, i feel nothing towards them and they all feel like cardboard cut outs with little personality to them at all. it all returns to nothing so i have no reason to care about them when theyre all gonna be killed off screen in the most contrived and terrible battle sequence maybe ever. ryo is the worst offender by far. his character fucking sucks dude. i dont think he even does anything in the story besides ruin akira's life and then sit in his ivory tower and act gay until the narrative decides "actually he was Satan the whole time!!" fuck you. and fuck those rap battle dudes too your bars fucking suck

i think a final point to end this on is that it is just far and away so much worse than everything it influenced. even if i read the manga or watched the original devilman, im pretty sure the story would remain much the same. and as such, there is literally not reason to watch devilman (much less crybaby) in 2023 when literally everything that came after it is better. i realize this is kind of a silly argument given how i listen to music but im standing by it. just watch evangelion. watch parasyte. watch berserk. play shin megami tensei. consume literally anything else that isn't this trite

i think that's all my main points. im sure i had more but i wrote this over the course of my day whenever id think of something else so. if i think of any more criticisms i had and forgot i'll reblog this and amend the post. sorry it's so long i just had way more to say that i originally thought. lol

Der Kronprinz (1989) [The Crown Prince]

This one was really good, I was very pleasantly surprised!

But before I talk about everything that I liked, I need to be negative for a moment. So, Ive been trying to watch all these films in their original language and Ive mostly succeeded so far, but this was a hungarian film that I watched the german dub of because I thought it was a german film and it obviously wasnt. I dont really like watching dubbed live-action media, I actually thought for the longest time that I didnt like watching any live-action media because "seeing humans captured on film felt unnatural to me" like Im from fuckin back when movies were invented, but then I realized that the thing that actually felt unnatural to me was the fact that the words people would say were obviously not actually coming out of the actors' mouths. I know better now, but dubbed media still feels 'off' to me whenever I watch it, and that was the case here as well.

There were also some weird directorial choices that contributed to that off-ness, like whenever a character would make a longer statement, the camera would slowly zoom in on their face until they were done, and the way people would look towards the camera was very weird, its not that they would look straight at the camera/at the audience but they would kinda look past it but it never really seemed like they were looking at other characters who were behind the camera, it felt more like they were looking past 'you' or the audience. Idk, Im not describing it in the best way but it made for kind of a weird viewing experience

But whatever, the plot of this film more than makes up for those minor complaints. This isnt just a straight-forward romantic retelling of the events leading up to Rudolf and Mary's suicide like most of the other films so far, its actually about these two guys, Peters and Lukacz, trying to piece together the truth of Rudolf's death in the immediate aftermath of it. Peters is an american wroter who originally came to austria and met up with Lukacz to write a book about the austrian empire in general, but then they announce Rudolf's death by stroke pretty much as soon as he arrives. They talk about it while theyre on a train to vienna and the conductor overhears them them and tells them that he thinks Rudolf was actually murdered because 30-year-olds dont usually die of strokes so thats suspicious, and he wasnt very well-liked at court so theres a motive there, which piques Peters' interest. Then, when the newspaper says that he died due to heart issues instead, Peters decides that he needs to get to the bottom of this, and then the rest of the film is him and Lukecz going around and asking people who were somehow involved with Rudolf and/or his death, interspersed with relevant scenes from his life.

If youve read my other posts, Im sure youve already guessed that the main reason I like this film so much is that it has a different setup and approach to this story than the others, and that is true, its so unbelievably refreshing seeing a Rudolf-film thats not just two hours of "aww isnt it soooooo tragic that he was soooooo in love with this 17-year-old girl but just couldnt be with her because of his shitty family and wife, they had to both die to be together 😭😭", but I also think it was very well-executed. All these interviews with all these different people who are all biased in different ways do a good job of painting a very complete picture of Rudolf (in my opinion as someone whos not very familiar with him as a historical figure, Im mostly saying that because he comes across as very flat in most of the films, which I dont think is the case in this one). Theres also all these rumors sprinkled in from like random people around Maylering that Peters and Lukecz interview to see if they maybe know anything, or even them themselves being like "you know, I heard this thing...", which I really liked because it added to this being a film about the unreliable narrative(s) and the drama around the mayerling incident. In some ways its about the messy birth of the whole Mayerling Mythology which was very interesting after seeing all these romantic and 'clean' movies that exist because of it.

Another reason why I liked it, that you might have guessed already as well, is that Mary wasnt really in this film all that much. And I know that sounds bad especially coming from someone who would consider herself a feminist, but Im gonna be honest with you, Im at a point where i dont even want male filmmakers to include female characters if they clearly dont care about them. Give me a story with a rounded out cast consisting of only guys instead please, its easier to ignore the fact that you dont see women as people that way. Sorry, Im just so sick of all these boring one-dimensional portrayals of Mary and her relationship with Rudolf that this film gets points for simply not torturing me with it. However, Mary does get one very interesting scene in this one, its the very first scene of the movie before we even meet Peters and Lukecz, and its basically the only part thats presented as 'true' because its not framed by any kind of unreliable narrator; theyre at Mayerling and Rudolf is finishing up his goodbye letters and Mary asks him if he's writing one for Stephanie, he tells her that he already wrote one and shes like "did you tell her that Im with you? I want her to know that Im the last person who saw you alive", the scene goes on for a little longer but I only wanted to talk about that part because, good god, that is such an insane thing to say. But I mean, I like it, I think its interesting that shes spiteful towards Stephanie here both because Mary is usually portrayed as innocence incarnate, and because I feel like these films never really get into what she thinks of her. Well, technically this film doesnt really get into it either, but atleast theres something there

Anyway, thats pretty much all I wanted to say, the only thing would be that I didnt really like any of the performances but I find it hard to tell if its because they were actually bad or if its just that off-ness I talked about at the start.

All in all, it wasnt my favorite viewing experience but I really liked this film, it was very interesting

Oh, and theres one last thing I have to say that didnt fit anywhere else, I feel like I havent had one of these in a while;

To my knowledge, this was the second time Rudolf has been shown as a child in a film since Erzsébet királyné (1940) which is literally insane to me. Youre telling me theyve been making films about this mentally ill freak for 49 years at this point and not only has no one ever attempted to seriously psychoanalyse him or link his mental illness to his childhood, only two of them ever even showed him as a child?
