I sat down to write and then was struck by inspiration for art. So here we are lol

I wanna talk a bit about this but since I'm nowhere near it in the actual fic I'm gonna put it under the cut

So after ba sing se, where zuko betrays iroh and rokei, rokei goes and joins the gaang briefly. She decides that she needs to free iroh from prison, and seeks out the white lotus. She tells them that iroh is in trouble, but that the avatar and his friends have a plan to invade the fire nation, and it would be a perfect time to bust him out. They agree and join up with the rest of the invasion force. Rokei finds where iroh is being held (havent quite decided if she assists in busting him out or if he's in the process of busting himself out when she gets there), but as they turn to leave they hear footsteps. They hide, and rokei sees that its zuko, who is looking for his uncle. Iroh tells her that he thinks zuko may need her and that she should go to him, and before she can argue he disappears through a secret passage. Reluctantly, she emerges from her hiding place. Zuko is ecstatic to see her again, but rokei still doesnt trust him and threatens him with her sword (she got a chance to train while she was travelling with the white lotus)

is the other dad orochimaru?

it’s actually not orochimaru! i do see the appeal to that ship. i think it presents a very interesting dynamic when you look at all of the times kakashi has to face orochimaru in canon, and it becomes even more fraught if you ship kakashi/yamato.

BUT i actually prefer sakumo/jiraiya!

i understand why so many people don’t really like jiraiya (and, therefore, don’t really consider him a viable option in pretty much any ship). he’s burdened with the early-2000s anime trope of being an obnoxious pervert, but i think he has the potential to be such an interesting character when you tone that down to a tolerable level and let his other qualities shine through. i have a ton of headcanons about jiraiya. i won’t bore yall by sharing them all lol but i’ll give you some quick highlights about how i see sakumo/jiraiya working within canon! it’s largely headcanon-based since we have so little info on sakumo and jiraiya’s timeline is also spotty

their relationship isn’t traditional. sakumo’s life is similar to kakashi’s in that he spends more time on missions than he does in the village, and jiraiya spends even less time there (largely because of a long-standing animosity between him and hiruzen).

it was actually tsunade who accidentally brought the two of them together. sakumo is a couple years younger than the sannin, but he happened to develop a strong friendship with tsunade. when they’re both in the village at the same time, they go out and have drinks together/get lunch/etc. jiraiya happened to join them on one of those occasions.

whenever jiraiya drifts back to konoha, he finds his way to the hatake compound (which is mostly empty except for sakumo). their relationship isn’t exactly casual even if it starts out that way. there are feelings. sakumo doesn’t sleep with anyone else, though he doesn’t tell jiraiya that. jiraiya does; he has a high libido, he doesn’t see sakumo often (sometimes they can go 6+ months without seeing one another), and they never decided to be exclusive or anything. but it’s different with sakumo.

jiraiya doesn’t actually know that kakashi is his kid. he missed the entire pregnancy, and when he finds out that sakumo has a kid, it’s right at the beginning of the war. he’s distracted with other things (the emotional fallout of dan’s death, his heightening feud with hiruzen, his responsibilities to the people of konohagakure, etc). he doesn’t put the pieces together. sakumo doesn’t tell him because… he loves jiraiya and doesn’t want to ask jiraiya to take on another responsibility. he also doesn’t want to confront the possibility that jiraiya might refuse to be a father to kakashi.

tsunade is the only one who figures it out in those early years. after she hears about sakumo’s suicide, she tries to find jiraiya to tell him, but he’s fucked off to god knows where. she financially supports kakashi (similarly to how kakashi financially supports naruto pre-canon), but she’s not exactly qualified to offer emotional support/a place for him to live given her gambling addiction.

jiraiya never realizes, though his and kakashi’s paths do cross semi-frequently. through minato, through naruto, through their shared devotion to protecting konoha.

sakumo tells kakashi when they have their fireside tête-à-tête during the pein arc, not realizing that it’s too late for kakashi to have a relationship with jiraiya.

ok i ahve not rlly been focusing on this episode bc ive been half falling asleep but like. did chip just fucking drop ollies book. the book that ollie gave him. the very important very special book that chips fucking kid gave to him. did he just drop it in this. er. beasts stomach ? i think thats where he is now. ive not rlly picked up on a lot this episode. im hoping i can just make informed guesses and depend a bit on grizzlys recap next episode. it shoulddd be fine tho bc its been mostly combat ive missed. i think.

even if you can't fall asleep, laying down with your eyes closed will still rest your body

you don't have to brush your teeth standing up

you don't have to do any chore standing up, from dishes to showering

you don't have to shower with the lights on

if you can't brush your teeth, flossing and a tongue scraper gets rid of plaque and bad breath

if you can't do that, mouthwash kills a lot of bacteria

eating "unhealthy" food is better than eating no food

you can make the same meal everyday for however long you still want it

some pills come in syrups or chewables if you can't swallow them

kids nutritional shakes can be a quick way to get fuel if you can't eat/don't have time

if walking hurts/exhausts you on a regular basis, canes and rollers are for you, no matter how young you are

the man who owns and runs the thai restaurant in my town knows me by name. he is one of the kindest and most thoughtful men i know. i started ordering from his place back in january, which was when i got my fibromyalgia diagnosis. back then i was using a walker, had limited mobility in my entire body but especially my hands, and was very visibly in pain. i always ordered the same thing: yellow curry with no meat, potatoes and carrots only (i have texture and other dietary issues). he always made it a point to make sure i could get out the door and carry the food safely. he had his workers package the food so that it was easier for me to open. as i kept coming back and i told him a little bit about my health status, he would always encourage me to keep going. he told me about how the spices he used were good for inflammation and began to edit the recipe just for me so that spices that were even better for fighting inflammation were used. he’d give me extra portions and despite the fact that i would tip every time, i realized later that he never charged my card for them. as time went on and my condition began to get better, especially with the help of a physical therapist, he would make encouraging remarks and tell me how happy he was for me. the day i came in without my walker, he practically jumped for joy, and despite my insistence, he gave me my meal for free that day. i continue to make progress with my conditions and i continue to go to the thai place. this man who does not know me personally and who i hardly know anything about is one of my favorite people. it’s interactions with humans like these that make loving life easier. and his curry really does help my chronic condition. it’s comfort food taken to the next level.
