Crys stares at the man in front of her, much taller than her, elegant, with a regal air to him and something that calls to her. "You... I know you." Crys whispers. There are flashes of moments in her mind, he was there but his name... his name...

Her heart beats fast in her chest, her breath catches and her cheeks feel slightly warm.

He chuckles. "I would surely hope so."

He places a hand at her cheek and she feels compelled to nuzzle into his warmth. He smells like... mate. Her mate, safe.

"I heard about your... predicament." His eyes soften. "I'm sorry you had to go through that. You were never in any real danger at least, but if I had noticed sooner..." He sighs. "No matter, all is well now. Welcome home, my dear Crystalfly (Jīngdié)" He murmurs lovingly in Liyuen.

Crys' eyes widen. "Jīngdié... T-That is...!"

It's like everything falls back into place, like her world flips on it's axe and she spins, her head pounds and she shuts her eyes tightly, stumbling back. Strong arms catch her and she gasps, taking a few moments to compose herself back again.

Oh this past week was a nightmare.

She looks up at the handsome man holding her. Her archon, her lord, her beloved, her mate.

Over 400 years and she still blushes like a teenager.

"Zhongliiii..." She whines, her eyes watering. "I was so scared!!" She clings to him, sobbing.

"Oh dear." He pats her softly, rubbing circles on her back to comfort her.

"Thank you SO much Kazuha." She nods at him, immensely grateful. "I don't think I could've kept my cool and found my way back so fast without you."

"No need to worry about that, I'm glad."

"You have my gratitude as well, young man." Zhongli adds. His amber eyes glint in interest, perhaps he catches something special about the ronin.

"Hm, as I said, I'm happy to meet and help a new friend." Kazuha inhales deeply and smiles, maybe catching something particular in the air.

"Oh! Rinrin, what are you and Alhaitham doing here? Are you on vacation?" Crys turns to her friend, now excited to see her again.

"We were worried about you. I tried contacting you multiple times but... nothing worked, we knew something must have happened." She exchanges a look with her husband. "Alhaitham wanted some help with a little project of his on ancient Liyue scriptures or dialects or something of the like hehe."

"I see, sure I can try to help! But right now I'm so tired... I want to sleep for a full day or more." She groans. And cuddles, she definitely wants cuddles. "Hm, I should probably send a letter to Palais Mermonia... Oh, and the Grand Narukami Shrine, I wonder if I can recover whatever belongings I left or lost at Inazuma." She sighs in defeat.

"One thing at a time, dear."

Meirin nods. "Rest is important. Ah, but now I'm wondering... what kind of youkai could do something like that, and how did they even get your name?"

"Actually I think I do know the answer myself." Crys says, she turns to Zhongli. "I recall getting a letter from you shortly before my returning date and you happened to address me as 'my dear crystalfly' as usual didn't you?"

"Oh. That is correct." So it was his fault?

Crys huffs. "Next time I go to Inazuma I will hunt down the youkai who did this." Her eyes narrow, hands at her hips.

"Woah, rare instance of Spring Bringer being violent."

It was good to be back...

hell, i like to think so!! 😳 dan's voice lives rent-free in my head: while writing him, i legitimately imagine actual audio to go along with every word so i can figure out his cadence. his voice is deep and warm, a combination of southern and midwestern charm - i haven't found the perfect match, tbh. i can give you summations?

he's got the baritone depth of a young sam elliott (he's got them big lungs and a deep, cavernous chest this man resonates) but more of the accent of arthur morgan (without the gruff) - then just listen to all of johnny cash's "ghost riders in the sky" and you have an idea of what i hear dkhfkfh

being married, it seems. dfsdhffk dallas is actually quite a free-spirit: they're not interested in relationships beyond them forming naturally. they seek out people who are interesting, who engage with them when they talk, who carry an aura of unapologetic "i'm hot and you know it" kind of energy - they also like sweethearts who blush when they smile their way, or the nervous kinds whose hands shake on their knees while they give them lapdances.

basically, dallas is attracted to people who make them feel powerful, safe, and altogether worshipped~

honestly, fiction has always held a fascination with me. sure, the mundane is beautiful, don't get me wrong; there's a lot of beauty within and surrounding our worlds, but fiction... with fiction you get werewolves, vampires, superheroes, aliens, magic, and on and on. and of course i know why i'm attracted to it; who doesn't use fiction to escape? edelweiss ⇢ how’d you think of your url/username? what’s it associated with to you?

oh! iiii wanted a change and wanted something surrounding the phoenix so i started looking at languages, and fell on faia (fire) and taka (hawk) from japanese. course it would be years later that i would find out that taka also means trash in swahili and that makes me lmao.

i have three i have on repeat ; my 'oh shit this slaps' gave me violet by connor price who i found from ig. and idk that one just feels like a summer-y afternoon. very sunny, very warm and playful. fun. my nostalgic playlist gave me who do you love by george thorogood and the destroyers and this one truly holds a lot of nostalgia for me. it reminds me of long summer nights, listening to music my uncle loved underneath a spanning night sky, just the crickets and connecting the dots of his life and filling in the gaps with nothing but love.

my 'chill tf out' playlist gives me raspberry by saje. and oh, this one feels like a club hired a siren to call patrons in, to make a sea of their own to swim, dance and get lost in. strong, sweet drinks to get them even more lost in the fog, and everything colorful and glittery before the patrons wake up the next morning, trying to figure out just what the fuck happened last night.

The Pale Moon Circus was filled with individuals who loved celebrations, parties, and the sort. They were a lively bunch who would use any excuse to go and have a good time, both on and off the stage. Birthdays were no exception to this, and in fact, they were the type of occasion the circus went all out for. The performers had become like a family at this point, after all.

Today's celebration was to be a very special one indeed, for it was the birthday of the Ringmistress of their circus, the one who worked tirelessly to make sure the show and all its moving parts harmonized. They had decided to put on a little private performance for her, not too dissimilar to what Asaka had put together for the directors birthday all those months ago. Getting this together without her knowledge was quite a feat, and she applauded them for their efforts. However...her mind was elsewhere, even as she sit and watch her comrades perform a show like no other.

'What do you want for your birthday?'

It was a common question she had been asked multiple times by various people, and her response to them was always the same, saying she have no need of a gift from them. That was the truth, for they couldn't give her what she really wanted. Only one person could do it, grant her birthday wish, but...she knows now even that person would grant it. It went against their own wishes, something she is sure the other wouldn't compromise for the sake of her own happiness despite the fact Asaka has done the reverse time and time again.

Yes, what Asaka desired more than anything, more than anything at all, wasn't fame, fortune, expensive gifts, or even revenge on those who wronged her in the past. It was for Ren to give up Kai in every sense of the word. She wanted him to stop this quest to find him and bring him back. She wanted him to stop his obsessiveness over fulfilling that image he had of her and the dragon performing together from all those years ago. She wanted him to stop thinking about him when they were alone together. She wanted him to care.

And yet...

"It's foolish...to even wish for such a thing at this point, even on a day like today."

She speaks to herself as she continues to appear as if she as watching the show her co-stars were putting on in her honor. Asaka knew that Ren's eyes would never turn towards her truly until Kai was back here. He was beyond obsessed with the fire dragon for reasons she, to this day, still doesn't get. Tetsu told her a lot happened after she left to go on her own, and it was something Ren didn't like to talk about, but...

What possibly could have happened to have her most special person go this far for someone when she was only gone for a few months? What could have drove Ren to this obsessive madness? Asaka didn't know and, most likely, never will. Without that vital information, she had only one real option at this point to turn the tide of things in her favor, to get even close to her true wish to be granted. She would just have to capture Kai and make Ren see, with his own eyes, that the dragon was not what he thought, that she was the one who could give him what he needed.

Asaka's focus returns to pay attention to the last bit of the show after her own mind was made up. Her birthday had seemed just like any other day, even though so desperately would wish for it to be more but...that just meant she would have to work even harder to make her dreams a reality. That's how this world of theirs worked, after all. It rewarded the powerful and the influential, and the only way one got to that point other than being born into it was to make those waves and climb that latter, just like she and the rest of the circus had been doing for years now.

And at the top of Asaka's own ladder would be the peak reward, Ren's love and admiration. It was a goal worth fighting for, a destination worth reaching, for Ren meant everything to the Ringmistress of the Pale Moon Circus. Without him, she was nothing. It was only after they met that she had become someone, and she wasn't about to let a ghost of the past stand in her way of reaching that peak.

No matter who stood in her way, be it friend or foe, she was going to come out on top. There were no options left for Asaka but to succeed, because failing would mean losing her beloved director forever, a fate she considered to be worse than death...

With some music based subcultures like scene and emo, what do you consider to be some core features or values of both? Also, would you happen to know of any accurate resources online to learn more about them?

with emo values and features, i had my good friend @iront33th help me phrase this bc they're way better at putting emo To Words:

"honestly unapologetically emotional, it was always about being open when stuff like mental illness, self harm and absent parents was considered taboo. and it talked about things no one wanted to talk about at the time.

obviously sonically there's a certain sound, like not just any song about anxiety or depression could be considered emo. otherwise ppl like logic could be emo LMAO bc musically it stemmed from post hardcore, so that combo of heavy instrumentals with emotionally heavy lyrics i think rly encapsulate what emo was truly all about.

i think in part the newfound openness about this stuff also made people unapologetic in their appearance as well, there was the basics set by the goth and punk and metal movements so ppl found their personal ways of being "different". and obviously when the big bands in the scene had dyed fringe and studded belts and those rubber hot topic bracelets it carried over to their audiences."

for me as well emo is about being unapologetically emotional, and talking about things no one wants to talk about or acknowledge. emo art and poetry play a big role in it too, as much as the fashion does. (emo is always about the music Most and First, fashion n culture was secondary) probably when you read this you're gonna say "but ppl talk about parental issues all the time?" but we didn't in the early 2000s! and that leads into my next point, i mean this very genuinely and not in a gate-keepy way,

you had to be there. there are posts or videos that do a decent job showcasing or talking about aspects of emo culture, and i do believe it still Exists, i mean i'm emo and i know other emo ppl. but it's changed so much and the, Feeling and Experience just doesn't exist the same as it did back then. i was very young then, but my older brother practically Lived in hot topic so i was exposed to a lot of it, even if i couldn't participate in the culture until i was older. (the change is not all for the worse tho, old emo culture had a lot of issues w fatphobia, lgbtphobia, it could be very exclusionary to poc, etc.)

scene does not, in my opinion, have a core value or message. scene was a subculture of emo, it came from crunk and rave culture. it was mostly about the fashion, looking good and having fun would be the only core meanings. don't get me wrong, i Love scene fashion! but it's like...emo for people who weren't as depressed ig lol? it's hard to even pin down scene music in the way u can with emo.

resources like...look up old hair tutorials or lyric videos. listen to the music that was popular then, there's plenty of accounts dedicated to old pics too. but emo is smth that varied a Lot by region and person and year. it's kinda too broad to say "oh just go read X" or whatever
