I'm on instagram a lot and the one piece fandom there isn't great... It consists of like 70% power scalers and people saying "the strawhats are still so weak! Luffy should be able to defeat an admiral" or "nami/usopp/robin/sanji betrayed luffy!1!!" One piece is surprisingly emotionally intelligent, so I think it's crazy how in a manga/anime that manages to make people cry so often and so easily, the characters constantly get reduced to their physical strength, and I definitely agree with you that the whole "Robin needs to get haki" thing is so annoying to hear; it's like people don't understand her character/can only view development through increase in physical capability. (Also happens A LOT with usopp, and to a slightly lesser degree nami. I could talk for a very long time about them and how a lot of the fandom views them, but I digress). I mean, are we even watching the same anime????? MOST of one piece is about the emotional journey of characters, even when they get power ups, it's almost always the result of an emotional event (all the strawhats in ennies lobby got their new techniques/powers because they wanted to save robin, luffy even outright says that if his friends can't protect themselves, he'll be strong enough to protect them, that's literally the reason behind gear 2 and 3). I feel like I'm going crazy whenever I try to explain this to people who just don't seem to get one piece is a character heavy story.

Anyway, I could talk about this for a very long time lol. Tumblr actually seems a lot better about this, most people here seem to love, or at least understand, the characters for their emotional storytelling more than for power scaling bullshit so I do stay here a lot when it comes to one piece. You say that you stay on twitter for the interactions you can't really get here, and I think you're kinda convincing me to finally get a twitter account lol. But I don't know, do you think people are better there? I have so many thoughts I'd like to discuss with people haha.

I'd say you run into the same issues on Twitter (especially after last week's chapter oh my God) so your best bet is finding communities of people who don't go to the power scaling side of the fandom, which is easier said than done. I prefer my little LGBT+ artist corner and my discord server at this point. Echo chambery? Maybe so, but I'd rather have a discussion with people who are capable of reading comprehension and possess object permanence and realize that one chapter is part of a whole story. Which is somehow rare.

I just prefer Twitter because I can have a conversation in the replies of things. Here it feels like you reply once and the conversation is dead. Or it's stuck behind reblogs which I don't like

I see a totally different thing.

Ray and Fraser are so perfectly in sync that Fraser doesn't even have to chew it all out for Ray because Ray understands Fraser on a much deeper level. Their partnership goes beyond words.

Ray knows Fraser is shaken up (he tells Welsh and Welsh trusts that Ray knows what's going on with Fraser) and that he's working on things on a deeper layer than this case.

Ray hasn't even met Victoria but he knows Scarpa is not to be trusted. She's manipulative and she's playing games with Fraser. He just doesn't know that Fraser sees through it. Even though Fraser keeps telling him.

But Fraser also knows he has this one chance to finally show himself that he is not going to fall for something like this again. Maybe even that he can open up and love.

That he is capable of doing this and not losing himself in the process again. He's learning to bluff.

And he has to do this part alone. Because the other time, it was taken from him by a bullet in the back.

So let me present you the way I see it. Fraser completely trusting Ray to have his back.

Ray being an absolute hero. There was never any doubt in Fraser's mind that Ray would get it, get him.

Maybe i am just uptight but i genuinely think that so many of leclerc's fans (especially the ones on twitter) are too parasocial and feel way too entitled to shit. at first i didn't really mind the comments about the filter on his photos bc i did agree yeah they could look better, but to repeatedly shit on antoine for it (even if jokingly) in spaces where they are known to lurk is a little 😬 i don't know if antoine finds it offensive and i won't be offended for him but the idea of a group of fans being so comfortable with shitting on charles and/or his entourage (yes i am also talking about fans who are vehemently against his facial hair, style, etc) online knowing they probably see it... it's just a massive ick for me. i don't want to claim offense on anyone's behalf bc for all i know they might find it funny and decide to keep doing it just to piss them off but just the entitlement and lack of social courtesy these people have is astounding to me tbh.

because you aren't friends with charles leclerc, not the way he is friends with antoine, joris, or whoever 😭 a lot of fans don't understand this and feel entitled to say whatever they want about charles and his entourage and think it's okay because "it's not that deep"

To your point, I think his filter is fine(I don't mind it, I think it's nice, idk as nice as a filter is. I prefer unfiltered pics but that's just me. But the filter isn't ugly ppl are just too up their pwn butt about it) some people just nitpick things to death. It's the same with his clothes or facial hair etc, people want him to appeal to their taste and sense of style or whatever and that really feels like it's ignoring the fact he's a whole grown man who probably likes all those things.

I don't know if there is a specific term for this but I know there's this phenomenon that fans of a piece of media/musician/celeb are far better at also hating because they are so informed on the topic. Haters from the outside don't really know most details so they just say the basic hater shit about something, the real cutting haterism comes from fans because they actually know more.

Now I would say that getting too up in arms over this would stray into parasocialism too(as you said).

I have a very simple policy that I try to follow. If you like a celeb don't say things about them that you wouldn't say about your friend. Not in a parasocial way, but supposedly you like this celeb, so afford them the same courtesy you would as for anyone else you care about. It's just polite. (I guess just be nice to people you don't know who are just minding their own business)

Would you constantly bully a friend over their choice of insta filter? I sure hope not. Not everyone likes the same aesthetics, that's fine.

I feel like people have become very comfortable just saying whatever online because there's this sheen of anonymity, and this goes beyond like just Charles or even F1 social media spaces, people just seem more comfortable being mean in online spaces. It sucks.

In any case, you don't have to like his choices of aesthetics, but seriously what are you even doing if you don't have something nice to say?
