hot take. it's so infuriating to see the writers on here properly tag and give warnings for the content that they write/post and to see someone purposefully ignore the very obvious warnings just to turn around and shit on the writer.

They did what they were supposed to, hell, most times they go above and beyond and put exactly what triggers, cut the post off so you have to click into it to read, etc- just for someone who was properly warned to get their panties in a twist.

like she's been gone for a while but i fucking miss Kazooli's work, there's been so many dark writers who have left or are thinking of leaving/posting less because people decide to consume content that they don't like.

you're allowed to write about dark things- I eat that shit up and lots of others do as well and if you personally don't like it you can scroll away, block that creator and stop interacting with it so it stops showing up on your feed.

It's a matter of expectations and consent, the difference of where the line is drawn is similar to how someone reacts to being seen in their underwear vs being seen in a bathing suit.

Sure it's a part of the Danganronpa brand to have gore, but people playing the game are going in expecting the gore and have time to prepare for the worst of it. On the other hand people are just scrolling and reading through a tumblr feed, everything they see is at random so that more explicit stuff can come without warning. Plus not everyone that can come across the post is familiar with Danganronpa so to them their just seeing a random boy getting his legs crushed.

(I'm doing my best to be neutral, it's just that trigger warnings on the internet are generally good practice since quite literally anyone can see it and it's not a random persons fault that their algorithm showed them something that they wouldn't actually be able to handle)

True, you have a point, but my point remains that if you follow a danganronpa blog, the expectation that violence or gore can end up on your dash should be bundled into the experience of following a danganronpa blog so finding a line between canon typical violence, which can get pretty extreme just look at komaedas death, and something that should be tagged due to being exceptionally violent is near impossible.

Along with the fact that if someone finds the post who isnt familiar to danganronpa, there isn't really much difference between seeing some random anime character getting crushed by a hydraulic press and seeing that same random anime character getting their legs crushed. The correct choice to someone stumbling upon a blog they do not follow that disturbs them because tumblr decided to show them the blog is to block them.

I will admit I am also somewhat desensitized to this kind of content, which makes the lines even blurrier for me. So that's why I keep asking where the line is, where does canon typical levels of violence stop and torture begin in a series famous for its torturous deaths? It feels like a fools errand because what im being asked to tag, feels less extreme then what happens at some points in canon.

hello!! I've just found your blog here and I've been really wanting to try and write for wilbur like you do!! though I'm new to writing, could you give me some tips on when you're new to writing? :DD

hi!!!! im so sorry it took me so long to answer this i was trying to gather up as many tips as i could ^_^ im sooo honored that youre asking for my help it makes me so happy!! here's a ton that ive learned just based off my experience, im no like professional and this is all just tips ive accumulated to my style over time 

–one, and i think this is the most crucial in a fanfic setting, but CAPTIVATE YOUR READERS!!! 

when i write, i try to replicate books as best as i can (more on that later), but this is the one thing that a book author could get away with that a fanfic writer cant. 

because your piece is only something that people will find through scrolling and its (more than likely) not a fully fledged book, people are more inclined to click off if you dont IMMEDIATELY captivate them. 

i often see people begin a fic with a couple paragraphs of context (and again this is absolutely no hate to anyone who does this, its just what ive found to work best) which can be interesting if done right, but chances are that readers wont enjoy it if you hand everything to them on a silver platter. they stay engaged when you keep them guessing or predicting. 

and i get thats difficult to do with just a tiny little blurb!! but when i write- no matter if its 100 words or 10k words, i ALWAYS start off with dialogue. quotation marks are the first thing that people are drawn to and i find it catches people's attention more when there's immediate action. 

the exception i have is with the gr!wilbur fic; i tried to set the scene a little bit without giving too much information, and then i started it with one of my favorite starters:

"he stomped away from her on the rooftop as she followed after him."

i remember researching "how to start a book" cuz i was so unmotivated with a blank space, and then i found a video that talked about a book (i cant find the video nor the book) that began with an intro along the lines of this. 

it seems so simple but it does so much. it introduces the main characters (gr!wilbur and angel), shows the setting (rooftop), and sets up a conflict that can keep readers engaged (why is he stomping away from her? why is she following?)

it was such an actually life changing thing to find and its just so creative. 

–two, make sure that youre making it clear whos talking!!

this is a bit more difficult if youre someone like me who doesnt like the you/your or even the i pronouns in fics (idk it just seems too personal to me, i like to think of the reader as a character in itself), but it is still equally as important to establish whose speaking in the text. 

THIS ALSO INCLUDES MAKING A NEW PARAGRAPH FOR NEW PIECES OF DIALOGUE!!!!! 

look at the difference between;

"hey- i didn't expect a hello from you, but a thank you would at least be nice!" she yelled as he speed-walked away with his grumpy walk and stone shoulders. "i'm talking to you!"

"and i'm not," he grumbled, fiddling to put his hood back onto his head as a way of closing himself off. 

"just-" she flapped her wings, trying to be alongside him. "just have some gummy worms, please?" 

and 

"hey- i didn't expect a hello from you, but a thank you would at least be nice!" she yelled as he speed-walked away with his grumpy walk and stone shoulders. "i'm talking to you!" "and i'm not," he grumbled, fiddling to put his hood back onto his head as a way of closing himself off. "just-" she flapped her wings, trying to be alongside him. "just have some gummy worms, please?" 

its the same words and the same text and the same dialogue but the second is just SO compressed and confusing to read "especially if you have a character talk like this" "and then another piece of dialogue with nothing in between" 

another thing i like to do to establish this is have alternating dialogue. this was difficult to do since gr wilbur isnt exactly the talkative type, but i wouldnt make angel speak in one paragraph, and then the next speak again. if that makes sense. 

like this;

"i want you to have them right now," she enunciated her words, crossing her arms and trying to copy his expression. she was fighting her usual bright smile under her pursed lips. "in front of me." 

"you look like you haven't been taking care of yourself," as she spoke through a pout, he could feel his face warming up, like tiny little punching bags beneath his skin. "i wanna make sure you're eating." 

its reallyyyy obvious that when there's a conversation, its two people speaking. and from just a reader's standpoint, i began to read the second pragraph as if it was wilbur speaking. which of course didn't make sense. 

so even if character 2 (wilbur in this case) doesnt speak, i try to add either a description (what are they doing? even if character 2 isnt responding, how are they reacting to character 1? whats their body language? facial language?) or a small tinyyyy bit of dialogue. 

–three, sometimes less is more!!! 

a lot of the times when i try to paint a picture, i end up over explaining things and the meaning of the words get lost when i use too many of them. 

you could have the most profound description thatll make readers wanna tug their hearts out, but if its too overused then it kinda loses its meaning. its like the dynamics of a song in the sense that the loud parts are only loud because there are super soft parts. 

heres an example i have from one of my older fics;

"Your teeth bit on the inside of your cheek as you sat down, more closer to the stage this time. Your knee rose and fell quickly as your leg bounced with nerve."

it may not seem like a lot, but chances are that people already understood the fact that the reader was nervous, so showing that she bit her lip AND was bouncing her leg was just counterintuitive. 

there are so many more examples of me doing this in the past but umm i dont wanna unearth those anymore

dont get me wrong; you should still add descriptors, but just dont overdo it. and sometimes i see people who have the opposite, in the sense that they dont have enough descriptors and its equally as confusing. so find a happy medium!! 

example of not enough;

"hi wilbur!" she spoke. 

"hi, angel," he responded. 

"how are you?" she smiled with a giggle. 

he sighed happily at her laughter. "i'm good."

im so guilty of this honestly and im so rusty cuz a huge factor of it is practice!!! 

–four, this kind of links to the last one, but Little Details. 

this might just be a personal preference, but i love little details When theyre done right!! 

one of my favorite people who does this is the infamous writer . u know her . u love her. @harbingerofheartbreak my very good friend 

i first noticed this in her fic, "archangel," soot;

"i know he's a prick. do you think i want him to teleport to me everytime i have a fucking mental breakdown?" you slammed the sponge down and turned to him, pointing a soapy finger.

reading the words "soapy finger" like actually changed my life in a way i didnt know was possible. just the adding of small details that arent just "she shrugged" or "he sighed", but instead adding to the setting and scene and adding special little details Without Overdoing It!!!

it just . ugh . i dont know if its just a writer noticing these small things, but i find it really cool how it adds so much and makes you really feel like the author put work into making those tiny little things. 

also another huge personal preference but i really love alliteration and play on words type stuff. i will always sneak in a little alliteration just to keep my work interesting with a certain flow to it. also (if your reader is anyone like me), putting a little alliteration adds emphasis and attention to certain things. 

its really really nice, but the accumulation of all these little details takes SO much attention and so much practice, so dont be frustrated if its difficult to think of on your first couple tries!! 

–five, dialogue!! 

i spoke about trying to replicate books as best as i can, and dialogue is one of the most important things in that sense. i often see fics who show expression through dialogue, and i used to do it too, but it just looks generally unprofessional (imo!!)

for example;

"WILBUR!!" she screamed. "WILBUR GIVE IT BACK!!!- I'LL KILL YOUUU!!"

wilbur laughed. "i-i dont... know what y-you're talking about..-! haha..."

"wilbur!" she yelped, suffocated through her laughter. her lungs betrayed her as she playfully slapped him. "wilbur give it back- ill kill you!" 

wilbur frantically looked around, his hands behind his back and his eyes wandering. "i dont- i dont know what youre talking about." he spoke, in a sing-song tone.

kinda an exaggeration but ive seen so many fics write dialogue like the first one and idk if its another personal preference, but it just doesnt seem really professional. and usually when you put all the emotion into dialogue like that, it takes away from the emotion you could incorporate into a character's actions or body language or even their thoughts. 

i try to avoid writing dialogue in all caps or with too much punctuation or stuttering, because again, less is more. but also dont do too little;

“see wilbur it wasn’t so difficult was it?” she giggled, and the noise stabbed wilbur a thousand times in the stomach.

“actually it was,” he bit the inside of his cheek, rocking back and forth on his heels with nervousness. “my bed is a literal stone i wish it were made out of feathers."

“see, wilbur? it wasn’t so difficult, was it?” she giggled, and the noise stabbed wilbur a thousand times in the stomach.

“actually, it was,” he bit the inside of his cheek, rocking back and forth on his heels with nervousness. “my bed is a literal stone. i wish it were made out of feathers."

it may seem minuscule, but things like this can ruin the flow of your work. what keeps me engaged as a reader is the plot or the writing style or the characters, not the fact that i have to slow down to remind myself whos talking or where they were supposed to pause when they spoke. that kinda stuff just unmotivates me to read it, if that makes sense. 

–six, FORESHADOWING AND CONNECTING

one of the most powerful things ever is foreshadowing and as above so below has a TON of it. idk if i can share examples cuz a lot of it is foreshadowing for the sequel, but i like to picture foreshadowing as a sort of inside joke. its special cuz it feels like a little secret between you and the author that only you know. it also shows that you have a coherent plan and youre not just writing on the fly. its professional and its personal. 

another huge thing is connecting. wrap the story up the same way you began it or make small nods to it as you go. 

in the beginning;

she had a lot of questions about wilbur. 

not the type of, "what's your favorite color?" or "what's your favorite band?" questions. more like, "on a scale of one to ten, how much does being a murderer really affect your mood?" 

all of these questions would go unanswered. including "what's your favorite band?" no matter what, she just could not crack the code of wilbur soot. 

to say he was intricate would be an understatement, and her ongoing curiosity would surely be the death of her. 

unless he had something to do about it. 

at a turning point;

“so, what’s your favorite color?” she asked in a light tone, licking at her ice cream.

a wave of dismay washed over his face. he couldn’t think. “t-teal?”

“really? i wouldn’t have guessed that,” she swung her legs beneath the bench, clearly unbothered by wilbur’s confusion. “you don’t really dress like a teal-lover. do you think the moon is real?" 

what? 

"no, bad question. hmm. what’s your favorite band?”

his heart fell into the pit of his stomach, thorns poking at his sides creating a terrible sting on his abdomen. he opened his mouth to speak- maybe cry and release his feelings; but nothing came up. not even an answer to her stupid question. it was nauseating. 

she began talking about the sort of music she liked, but none of it struck his brain. he felt sick. he wanted to scream and sob and punch something. but he sat still like he was posing for a renaissance painting.

at the end;

she still had a lot of questions for wilbur. 

not the type of, "what's your favorite color?" or "what's your favorite band?" questions. more like, "wilbur? hello? please help- this hurts- are you still there?" 

and she was starting to lose hope in the fact that those questions might be answered. 

one things for sure; her curiosity will be the death of her. 

unless he's got the courage to do something about it

even just the slight nod to the beginning gives your readers a reminder of everything, and drawing back to your beginning is like wrapping everythint up with a nice little bow ^_^

–seven, characterization and descriptors 

this could also connect to one of the previous tips, but Stop Describing Characters So Much when theyre introduced!! 

if you're introducing a character, dont give an entire paragraph to describing their height, eye color, hair color, clothes, etc. its boring and doesn't engage people and it messes up the flow. 

dont get me wrong, you can mention those things in quick passing so that your reader isnt confused (ie "his brown hair stood up, still clinging to the static electricity from his hat." or "her white dress went along with the patterns of the wind") but having just one big long paragraph like;

"wilbur was tall. very tall compared to everyone else. he had brown eyes and bushy eyebrows that carried his emotions. he wore a gray hood that sometimes covered his face. he wore a bag that slung across his torso. his brown hair was usually uncombed and messy. he had bags under his eyes."

its just generallt not interesting enough!! tell me about his body language; whats his posture look like? does he hold his head up high with confidence? is he slouched over in careless sadness? 

AND ALWAYSSSS OVEREXAGGERATE INTRODUCTIONS I CANNOT STRESS THIS ENOUGHHH 

pick a signature trait for your character and make it THE most noticeable thing when theyre first introduced. 

angel is naive and optimistic? shes gonna sound stuck up and unrealistic to such an extent that its almost annoying. 

wilbur is grumpy? the first thing hes gonna do is be super duper mean and hurt everyones feelings 

quackitys a jokester? first thing he does is tell wilbur to literally take his shirt off 

there's such a power in establishing a character into a certain category and playing with that. think about their characterization; is this category gonna change? will it change positively or negatively? will it change quickly? what makes it change? why? theres SO much to he said about character arcs in itself. 

another huge thing about characterization is just being realistic. it doesnt really apply to au fics like gr!wilbur, but if youre writing a blurb about wilbur at a concert- im so sorry but there is barely a chance that hes gonna go up to one of his Fans and instantly fall in love with them. 

and everyone has a preference of course!! if thats your kind of jam, go ahead im not judging. but as a personal preference, i don't really enjoy it when the characters dont seem realistic or wilbur's dialogue is definitely not something that he would say. 

but again, at the end of the day, everyone has their preferences and by all means tweak your writing to YOUR standards!! write whatever makes you happy!! dont let some writer named zone let you dictate how to write and what you should or shouldnt write. it should all be with your own preference (and also respecting other peoples boundaries ofc) 

one of the biggest mistakes ive made as a writer was robotically writing, or in other words only writing so that i could Produce something and get a couple notes on tumblr and thats it. doing that is what made me fall out of love and with writing. 

aasb was the first fic i finished on my own accord, and of course i had friends like flore and carrie to push me on to continue, but i wrote it because it was an idea i loved. not because i wanted to post it for the people of tumblr. thats one of the beautiful things that flore taught me, whether it was unintentional or not, but its helped me so much. 

and a ton of these tips takes Time and Practice as everything unfortunately does. ive certainly improved my writing game since like 4 years ago from both reading and writing to pick up certain little traits that ive loved from other peoples works and incorporated it into my own style. 

i think the person whose had the most influence on my writing is. in fact. florence harbingerofheartbreak. and im not even saying that cuz shes my friend im genuinely so amazed by her work and her stuff is severely underrated 

and also this is only a fragment of tips, there are a plethora of actual professionals that could give out their tips but again at the end of the day its all what You Do. 

and by all means id loooove to read any of your works (not just this anon, any of your guys' works) so please please please dont be afraid to send em to me!! i hope these tips help ^_^

hello hello~ i just found your blog just now and after some scrolling i can tell i will really enjoy following you.

this actually woke up within me an interesting thought and i thought maybe you wouldnt mind if i shared it? i find myself very inspired by christian/jewish mystics and hermeticists that i know due to the amount of academic,philosophical and mystical knowledge involved in those practices, and i find myself being drawn to traditional magic but (classic story nothing unique) oh gosh the heebie jebies over any mention of „the one god” are strong and not lessening. i know mysticism is all about gaining gnosis over what god means to you but born in poland = religious ickeys. i have slowly started incorporating deities into my work, and im starting to feel pleasure venerating hermes and apollo but those are productive connections with specific purposes so its not what i imagine when i think of worship.

have you known people in this situation who have eventually figured out a way to interact with this sphere of esotericism? of course i understand if my question is sudden and overtly personal for a first message haha. let me know if thats the case, otherwise im curious to hear from you!

I'm glad for the question. I think these sorts of conversations (despite how personal they can be) are incredibly important to have and discuss. I can't offer you a clear answer, but hopefully I can add a little bit to your process.

I talk a little bit about this on an upcoming episode of Luxoccult, so if you're a podcast fan keep an eye on that feed. It might be better to hear me say some of this stuff out loud. In the same breath I apologize if I repeat myself.

I went through a very similar thing. When I started to feel a pull towards the grimoires and the history of western magic I felt an incredible amount of fear. I had done so much to distance myself from that world. I had so much suffering inflicted upon me as a queer man in America by Christians and in the name of Christ. I was also someone who had worked for the church, had done ecclesiastical work. Someone who thought I had done a lot of good through that. I turned to Chaos Magic and, through that to Heathenry, to give myself an escape from that confusion. An escape from the dissonance I felt between my work and the people around me.

What purpose could there be for me, someone who was wildly queer and polyamorous and loving it, to engage with the work of dead guys whose perception of good was fundamentally tied with the virginal?

My salvation was philosophy. The realization that our ontologies are not set in stone, and that we have always found some way to disagree. That in disagreeing, in building my own framework for how this operates, I was contributing more to the tradition of western magic and the future of it than by blindly subscribing to the ontologies of my forbears.

The grimoires are prescriptive. They offer us names and seals and modes to operate. And they work as intended. They should be engaged with on their own terms and using their own methods. As best as we have the capability to. None of that means that we are the same as the people who wrote them, or have the same perspectives.

On one hand it is our obligation to know the traditions we pull from, to respect them. We have to put in the work. On the other, it is not our obligation to remain unchanging. To conservatively rest on the laurels of our predecessors.

Read up on some philosophy. Some *weird* philosophy. Check out some Neoplatonists and some Pythagoreans and some "Gnostics" (quotations for how academically fraught that word is). See their perceptions of God or the Monad and what that actually meant to them. See if the idea of God you come out the other end with is something that evens negates the ideas you had already. Sometimes the problem is semantic more than anything else.

I highly recommend the podcast The Secret History of Western Esotericism as a jumping off point for some of these philosophies. The way Eric condenses some of these ideas it can be a great jumping off point for "oh hey actually I kinda like that".

Most importantly however, break your brain a bit before you start getting hard ideas. I'm recommending starting with the philosophy NOT because I want you to have a hard ontology before diving into western magic. I want you to instead have a broader understanding of the many ways people have done and thought about this stuff. That there's no one mode of thought for approaching it.

Finally, you don't have to do any of this. Yes the story of western magic is wrapped up in the grimoires, and it will in some way inform a ton of what any of us in the west find ourselves doing anyway. And I find it, for that reason and others, important to be well-read in. But you are in no obligation to do fucking anything, for any reason. And you are under no obligation to do magic in any way other than the way you want to do it. If that ends up putting theurgy off the table? Fine, that's great. You'll be better for having tried, and for being willing to expand in the first place.

Fair warning, I went on this journey and found myself a Christian again (of a sort). I'm not upset by that. But to some of my friends who broke hard from the church that change in me was confusing and strange. We run the risk of changing no matter what we choose to engage with. As a magician, that's a risk I'm willing to take.

at this point, i can't guarantee that. i go through ups and downs writing, i have bursts of inspiration sometimes and sometimes i just dont. that's just the nature of being a content creator. and as i don't get payed for this as of current, that's okay.

i had already taken a hiatus before and returned to post 6 more fics in 4 months when i did, because i returned with renewed energy. i returned to writing here because i wanted to. i understand that you are saying it out of a want to help and give advice, but it's quite hurtful an answer to someone who refused to leave even though all her close friends apart from a tiny fraction left, and someone who's been trying to keep a little bit of the spirit in it for new fans. because there's nothing more sad to me than seeing a fandom i love die before my eyes.

now is not the time for a break for me. i don't need a break, what i need is the tiniest bit of effort from all the people who consume content without giving back. i have already made a new blog before too,, and people didn't care to follow me over, so there's no use. i've been building this blog for the last 3 years, and there's no point in throwing away my hard work for something that might not ever get to the level it was at anyway.

but this ask is also overshadowed a little by the sheer negativity being tossed at me, even if it wasn't your intent, or even if you said it politely. it's quite a strange and harsh thing to say to someone who's expressing a grievance,,, don't you think? i have seen it from your pov, many many times. i have not said a thing about it for months, again, because i don't want to hurt people's feelings. i might have said that i have a bunch of unanswered asks before yes, because that's true, but as i also said in that same breath, most of them are requests. even if they don't straight out say "please write -" they can still be requests.

i also think you've already sent me a similar message a few months back when i was expressing frustration, which,,, kind of proves that i don't ignore anyone, and i haven't ignored your asks. i don't pick favorites, i don't only answer certain anons for the fun of it. and i don't know if you have tried to scroll my blog in the last few months, but any time i am able, all i'm doing is answering asks. all of which go ignored.

i have hundreds of answered asks that get no, or maybe one-three notes. i think it's only reasonable then that i started to assume that the majority of people didn't really care about my answers, and that maybe yes i did subconciously get more cautious which asks i answer immediately get upon getting them, because i didn't want to flood people's dashes and annoy them with my answers. i answer the asks first that are short and easy to answer, or that make me laugh or are trying to make me happy.

i answer an enormous amount of asks in between fics. so i'm sorry to say, but i genuinely don't think i've ignored many of your asks as you claim. you don't sign your asks so i wouldn't know if or when you revisited me if i tried,,, but just math wise it doesn't make sense. if you had sent me between 3-5 asks over these last few months, there's a 99% chance that i have at least answered one or two of them.

and if you've sent maybe one, or two asks and i happen not to have answered them, i am sorry for that, truly, because i never mean to exclude anyone from a conversation. but like i said, the majority of people don't care about my responses, and i don't want to dry my blog out more by burying my writing under such a heap of asks that people don't even bother to read anymore. i really don't know what you expect me to do.

people dont read my posts (any post except a full fic), or if they do, even leaving a like is too much to ask. i feel like im talking to a void with 99% of this blog. and though people do read my fics, it is such a rare thing to get a reblog, a nice comment, or an ask going into my fics. talking about a thing they liked, or simply saying they enjoyed the fic. you seem to equate me asking for interaction with 'sending asks', but that's not the case.

anything is interaction. showing you're interested. showing you're here, you're listening. showing you read something. this isn't ao3, i have no way of knowing how many people are actually here. so when writers ask for interaction, they aren't asking you for a book report (though i can guarantee that if you care about a fic and you put i that kind of effort that'll make you so so loved by that writer, and maybe you'll even become friends lmao,, that's how me and rhi, clover, angel, mous, violet, bee... became acquainted after all)

they are just asking for any sign that their hard work is not just,, there. it'd be nice to show you care. even if writers might not respond to you right away, or even at all

hi it's been a while since ive posted some hcs bc uni has been kicking my a$$! luckily i only have a few papers to tidy up and im done. here r some hcs for each obey me character that ive accumulated over the past few months wink wonk

i have a strong feeling that he showers twice a day: in the morning after waking up and at night before going to bed

his cologne is probably the type that will last in an elevator for like a week after he uses it once. i dont think this mf ever smells like anything other than his cologne

has a secret folder on his phone of semi-nudes and other scandalous pics from when he felt sexy at the time omg

aside from demon language/eng/jp he can speak french and knows latin

listens to classical stuff yea but he also listens to diavolos mixtapes (re: diavolo's section)

not a fan of sweets but will eat sweet things when craving

OH EM JAYYY hi anon wth thank u sm ☹️💖 im so glad u think that and that's so nice for u to say!! i'm probably the worst person to ask for tips on making moots but i can most definitely share my personal thoughts? im actually horrible at making moots tbh 😭 i'm not normally one to interact first, so pls keep that in mind when you read this :>

this post is so fucking long im so sorry 😭 here's the tl;dr version bc u totally don't have to read anything below the cut unless ure really really bored: find blogs that are similar to yours, read their carrd/byf/dni, go thru their blog quickly before interacting, interact w their posts, but only interact with people that make posts you genuinely like (i.e. don't make moots for the hell of it), don't spam, vibe check (if they don't seem like they want to be moots, it happens! just back off!), prioritise having higher quality friendships rather than increasing your moot count, put disclaimers in your carrd/about me that say you would like to make moots so people know you're approachable. 

the way i've met most of my moots are through interactions on my/their posts. for example, they would read my story and share their thoughts through an rb/ask. then, i'd respond (by reblogging their reblog or by replying to their ask) and we'd hit it off from there. the reverse is also true — i've read people's stories, shared my thoughts on them, and they've responded from what i've said. personally, i think this is a really organic way of meeting people because most people on tumblr share their content with the intention that it gets interaction — for example, i write bc i really like it, but i also publish it because i love hearing what people think about it. i imagine a lot of other writers/content creators are the same, so again, interacting w people's content is a really great way to start a conversation! 

the thing about interacting with people's content is that i 1000% believe you need to be genuine about it. don't interact with people's posts with the sole purpose of becoming their moot — it should be about finding people that share your interests rather than increasing your friend/moot/follower count. before you interact with someone, think about why you're doing it. do you genuinely like them? or do you just want another follower? hopefully, the reason you'd even want moots in the first place is to find people that are similar to you; ones who share your interests and share content you want to see on your dash. as such, only interact with posts/content that you genuinely enjoy, like, and would love to see more of — that's how you can build really high-quality friendships, rather than superficial ones. i'm not sure that makes much sense? 

as an extension of what i've just said, if you see someone whose content you really like and you think you'd get along with, there are some preemptive things you can do to make sure things don't go weird. firstly, definitely read their carrds/byf/dni/about me posts because it'll tell you a lot about who they are and the kind of people they expect will interact with them. i'd also have a quick scroll through their blog and consider some things like whether or not you'd actually get along — what's their vibe like? do you have similar interests? are your blogs similar? do you stan the same groups? do you share the kind of content they'd actually want to see on their dash? these questions will kinda help you gauge whether or not your friendship will fizzle quickly or if you'll genuinely get along for a really long time !

personally, i'd never approach someone and ask "hey let's be moots!" in the same way i wouldn't walk up to a complete stranger and ask, "hey can we be friends?". it's not that i think there's anything inherently wrong with that (i actually have a few moots whom i met that way), i just think there are some considerations to take into place. before approaching anyone, it's important to consider whether or not you'd get along, which is why i recommend going through their blog and seeing what they're like. it'll save some awkwardness in the future, especially if you soon notice they're not a very interactive person and probably don't want moots in the first place. 

the people i most enjoy interacting with (i.e. my favourite moots) are ones whom i genuinely get along with really well — i actually really do like their content (and uh i hope they feel the same way LKDSJF), we have similar senses of humor, we don't bombard each other with notifs in way that feels super overbearing, and they're actually very very nice people. sometimes, we might get too swept up in this idea of "omg i want moots so bad" that we kind of just approach anyone, or our moot's moots, and that's why our friendships fall flat or the fizzle quickly. you need to find people whose blogs are similar to yours and go from there :) 

if there are other general tips i can add, i'd probably say that there are ways you can try make yourself more approachable. for example, you can put a disclaimer on your navi/about me/carrd that you do want to make moots and that you don't mind if people approach you first (i've done that in my carrd so people know it's totally okay to approach me!), always respond to your asks nicely, don't be problematic or start fights with other people, and don't be afraid to show off your personality in your posts. in terms of maintaining moots, check in with them every now and then (if it's actually been a while since you've interacted) by sending them asks or memes or something :> 

i don't know if this was all too helpful and i'm super sorry if this was quite tangential 😭 let me know if u want clarification on anything!! at the end of the day, treat it the same way you would with a real-life person — make sure you have something to talk about (i.e. you have things in common or you like to talk/post about the same things); make sure they're showing signs that they actually do want to be approached; don't stalk them or be weird by spamming them with things you hope they enjoy; and also just all in all be nice! make sure to vibe check; if you're always the one approaching them and they only give you short replies, they're probably not feeling it and it may be best to back off. btw, that's totally okay and it happens all the time, sometimes two people just don't get along :>> don't be too disheartened if you find it hard to make moots or approach people because the internet is so vast and you will certainly find your kind of people <33

but I have been seeing a trend of “hey what about this aspect of this AU?” turning into “hey what about this idea phrased like a question but is really just a request” so i wanna clear some things up about how I like to run my ask blog before things can get out of hand 💦 

im doing this for fun! I daydream and get too many new ideas which I have to draw and theres a whole bunch of you guys who love my ideas and drawings and keysmash in the tags! its a very positive feedback loop where you guys get content and I consistently practice my art every day! its awesome and i thrive on it!

however it stops being fun when people start to view you as just a content creator (a thing) instead of a hyperfixated community member (a person). the curious asks turn more into demands. you can sorta sense the shift and its a bit scary! I wanna avoid that by saying how I run my personal art blog

1: I get all your asks! I love them! however I don’t regulate myself on which ones I draw for/answer with text/save for later because some ideas that you guys spark are louder than others. please don’t get impatient if you don’t get a response from me. it’s pretty much like spinning a roulette wheel when you send an ask. I have asks from like a year ago i still think are great but haven’t gotten around to actually drawing them yet shhhhh

2: I try not to oversaturate my blog with asks! one pet peeve of mine is finding a great art blog but then having to scroll through pages of untagged asks to find their art. i’m usually very good with tagging (#asks for asks, #myart for art, #G muses for miscellaneous things ) so you guys can navigate easily, but I like to hold back on responding too much.

3: I keep my personal troubles off of here and i’d like the same in return! tumblr is my piece of media escape from the real world and I try to do the same for my followers. no vagueblogging or essay long rants here.

please don’t feel entitled to my art or to getting an answer from me. I jus love some of ya’lls ideas which worm into my head and distract me from my schoolwork until I get them out.

TL;DR: I am one person doing this for fun and I want others to have fun with the stuff I draw! I like to keep my blog neat and wholesome. please don’t take me for granted!

hey! just to be clear this isn't hatemail. i preferred your blog when it was mostly asks and not so much reblogs of fests and chapter excerpts for new fics. those have made it harder for me to search through the asks and fic recs. what people say about a fic/how they remember these are usually how i get interested in them, not via the fancy pics and excerpts. i dont wanna sound ungrateful,i really appreciate what you do, but could you have a tag for just those follower asks/submissions? i remember when you tagged asks and submissions with anonymous. i dont notice that in your posts anymore, so its kinda hard for me to filter stuff. and when i send an ask, its kinda hard to scroll thru everything to find your reply. sometimes i think about resending the ask, but i know you dont like resends. but its really hard to look for them, especially since im not on your blog every day. any tips/assistance/ a new tag for this would be helpful. thanks very much! :D (2/2)

I didn't even realize that we don't tag anonymous anymore! I have the tumblr xkit thing and that used to automatically tag the sender, anonymous or the tumblr user's name, but apparently, it stopped doing that for some reason! Thanks for letting us know. I will now start adding in the names so people can find their asks.

But we do have a search bar on our web page, not the app, but the actual page, so you can look for your previous asks there, like type in some keywords you remember sending in. We also have an unresolved fic search tag, you can find that on our sidebar, so you can also check there for your ask.

As for the reblogs, we just do it so people can see what fics have been updated. I try not to reblog everything, just the ones that have links to the fics, and most authors now add in fanart so their posts are very long. To be honest I may stop doing that because it's the same stories I keep reblogging every day. I think I will only reblog new fics or posts about a fic ending, or posts from authors that update like once a month. Also, it's harder now to go through the Dramione tag because most of the posts are not fic related. And there are still so many anti Dramione posts :(

The best way to keep track of your ask, is to send it via a tumblr account. You get notified when your ask is posted.

so 2022 is going to be a little different

hello hello my lovely followers! this is both a little follower special (because we reached 111 and that’s a wonderful number to make a special for) and just a general post to inform you of some changes. if you don’t give a shit about what i have to say and just want to see why and in what way i’ll open up requests again, scroll down a bit further!

first onto the things i probably would not have to tell you but i’m telling you regardless

until now, i’ve pretty much kept my blog a writing-only zone. and i like that! it wasn’t too hard to navigate even without a masterlist which i always forget to update anyways.  but recently i’ve begun to reblog a bit more and i want to keep that up. the people i’ve found on here are amazing, there are so many talented and underrated writers out there, and me not reblogging their things just because i like to scroll down my blog and see all my oneshots in order seems like a crime.  this doesn’t mean that i’ll be spamming your dashboard with reblogs, but i’ll be sure to share and react to the posts that deserve it!  if that annoys you - which on tumblr, it probably should not - that isn’t my problem and i’ll be alright without you the same way i was before. 

since school has started again for me and i’m working on some bigger projects, i’ll also have much less time to actually write fanfic on here. i certainly will because, hell, i’m a writer! what would i do if not write? but i’ll upload far, far less. thank you so much already for your patience and for sticking with me. all your compliments and your feedback are awesome reassurance and always make me smile!!

now onto a more pleasant change: i’m opening my requests again!!

i’ve wanted to for a while, but as i said before, i’m quite busy and i won’t be less busy until spring break, and who knows how far in the future that is (months, im sure, i just have no time perception in the slightest).

Im serious if your struggling to even scroll through the tag beacuse of how invasive and gross it is, block block block. I almost left the fandom entirely i was so done with that behvaior.

Sure its a lot of time to go through each post to block the blogs, but i never even SEE drama anymorw let alone that gross behavior. It also keeps that stuff from appearing on my dash if a blog i follow happens to reblog something like that for whatever reason.

The only reason i know drama or whatnot is even happneing anymorw is if i go on twitter.

I fully recommend a blocking spree on that tag, it honestly saved me from leaving this fandom getting rid of that toxicity

That's a very good idea! Honestly my biggest reason for not having Twitter is the sheer amount of drama that seems to course through it. (And yes, I was here for 2012 Tumblr, and yes 2021 Twitter is somehow Worse). The only reason I ever find out about Twitter drama is secondhand and I'm going to keep it that way.

And just to add some more points to this about why you should reblog content you like

Reblogs, first and foremost, help spread content around. The tumblr algorithm works through reblogs because users get to follow blogs and see their content as well as reblogs. It helps get a creator discovered through the reblogger, aside from the tags

If you, say, want to see/read the content again, reblog. It's pretty difficult to scroll through likes if you want to find something again, and while the search function on tumblr acts weird when searching on ur own blog you're more likely to find a post more easily by searching it through your reblogs.

Reblogging stuff also lets you get more followers because they'll see that you put posts frequently on your tumblr.

Reblogs are cool but if the creator says do not reblog, dont

And if you ever even think about reposting content onto tumblr i want to say that 1) please dont repost and 2) reblogging is pretty much easier to do

If you're worried about time, you don't have to tag stuff or add onto posts when you reblog, there's a feature on tumblr mobile (long press reblog button+swipe to blog of your choice) and a keyboard shortcut on web (alt key+r) that lets you reblog posts quickly!

There's also a queue feature that automatically spaces and schedules when your reblog gets posted if you're worried about spamming your followers!

I think there used to be a thing on here where people made a separate reblog blog for only reblogging things if your blog is specific about the posts you post, and even until now I see some blogs doing the same thing.

It keeps the content in circulation and doesn't stagnate the content. Ever wonder how the colors of the sky post keeps finding its way through your dash? Or how posts from before 2016 recirculate through your dash as tumblr history? It's because of reblogs! They got reblogged!!! There aren't any secret rules here about "stalking through" someone's content, if the creator wanted them to be hidden they wouldve set the post to private or deleted, so don't worry about breaking unspoken rules of reblogging old content!

Practical Tips on getting your fics out there!

I’ve gotten an influx of these types of questions here recently, and the more i thought about what i was gonna add, it became really long :(  

disclaimer: a lot of the things i bring up are just from personal experience as a writer on this site, what my followers have told me they appreciate, and what i tend to look for when im looking for fics to read! If you don’t like these tips then pls move on :) 

although i’ll mention them, i’m also not going to be focusing on cliche tips like “write for yourself” or “grammar issues” cause those are pretty obvious!

1. accessibility of your blog 

when you’re trying to get your name out there, make sure that you’re creating an inviting experience for any potential followers! this includes:

a memorable url! be creative!

have some fun designing your blog’s aesthetic! (i love cute blogs because it reflects a bit of the writer’s personality), and (i prefer blogs with white backgrounds because it’s easier to look through/read, say, in contrast to a pitch black one where the words need to be white!) 

put your masterlist link in your bio (even better if you can link most recent fic! found this most helpful when i revisit authors that i like and can easily see if they’ve updated or not)

an organized and easy-to-navigate masterlist (personally, i prefer masterlists organized by band, instead of types of fics ie. i hate when i have to choose between drabbles, oneshots, and series masterlists; i really prefer to see them altogether!) --> see section 3 

organized tags (if you’re going to be posting a lot of non-fic-related content like pictures or videos, tag them properly so followers can sort through and find your fics easily!), or (if you’re going to be writing in different mediums like drabbles, or answering asks, make sure to use a unified #mine or #writing or #fics to centralize your content) 

2. get your name out there!

write write write! once you have some fics that show your talent, don’t be shy! 

join writing groups: when i first started out, I joined a bunch of groups that would reblog my fics in the midst of the content of much bigger writers; these blogs developed a following, and as a result of my content mixing in with bigger blogs’ content, so did my own tumblr! there’s been a stigma recently with these groups, but im sure you can find one thats supportive and not clique-y! 

send your fics to rec pages: what’s the harm? the only bad thing that can happen is that they ignore you! who cares! get out there! 

if you can do the above, i really encourage you to ask your fave writers for advice/to read your fic: again, the worst that can happen is that they say no or don’t respond or don’t have enough time, but it’ll be a good opportunity to get some feedback! i for one read (or try to read) every single rec that falls into my inbox. if i like it, i’ll #rec it, and if i don’t, unless the writer asks me for feedback, i move on!! 

utilize your tags!!: i’m not entirely sure if this is still the same or not, but from my memory, it’s the first 3-5 tags that matter the most? so utilize them well; push back the tags that aren’t really relevant (ie. #writing, #fics) and push more the main subject line of what you wrote (ie. jungkook fluff, bts smut, namjoon angst). these will populate your fics into the tags better!

headers!: when i’m scrolling through an infinite page of fics, the headers catch my eye the most; try being creative! you can find a lot of info out there on how to make ur headers super aesthetic, but i can share my tips too! --> see section 3

3. your masterlist 

here are some practical tips! 

organize by band, not type of fic/member/centralize your masterlist: i went onto a blog recently and clicked their bio mlist link to find a page full of 20~ish “JUNGKOOK MASTERLIST”/ “JAEHYUN MASTERLIST” and when i clicked on each one, they only had like 2 or 3 fics per member. i think it would’ve been better if she’d centralized all her fics! that keeps whoever is looking interested and more likely to click on another fic while browsing

add info about the fics!: when scrolling through a masterlist, it’s easy to get lost; try to add some snippets of info (ie. a short sentence you liked from the fic, a quick summary, a description of the au/scenario, or even a header!) this all gives some info about the fics you have tagged! 

headers: this isn’t a requirement, but i personally love a good header on fics i read and i love making them myself as i finish up a fic and get ready to upload it; here are free sources: unsplash for HQ stock pics, crop/edit/filter in VSCO, and then add aesthetic script with fontcandy) 

try to fill it up!: after i visit a blog after reading one good fic, i usually browse through their mlist to see if there are any more that i’d be interested in. if there’s a lot to look forward to, i’ll almost always follow; try to write as much as you can in the first few months to try and fill up your mlist and give blog viewers a reason to visit your blog again, follow, or even reblog your content!) 

4. try not to reproduce cliche fics: 

honestly tumblr’s writing community (and armys) has grown insanely these past few years and, unfortunately, even from my perspective, in the past 3-4 years, all the writers have sort of become blended together in my brain. but, i can say that the ones who consistently stand out are the ones who produce consistent content and think outside of the box! 

i tend to gravitate towards fics that have really interesting plotlines (ex. btssavedmylifeblr’s VOID is always a surprise to read because it’s sO unique! i usually don’t read ot7 fics but this one is legit my fave) 

I know it’s tempting to try and just write typical smut fics to try and gain some traction, but tumblr is already too overloaded by that kind of content; try to write something that’s special and unique! this will set u apart from the thousands of other writers here --> see next section

5. create unique fics: 

this is also personal to my writing style, but i get so bored writing just casual fics about the members, and it affects the fics i choose to read too; i prefer unique fics which you can achieve through: 

circumstance/au: create a fun au!; don’t just create an arranged marriage, create an arranged marriage in joseon dynasty, or between a werewolf and a hunter! (shameless self plug); don’t just give me friends to lovers, but give me spiderman!jungkook friends to lovers! (ie. cupofteaguk’s exchanges)

jobs: give them out-of-the-ordinary jobs; don’t just give me enemies to lovers, but give me rival!anchors who end up loving eachother! (ie. jimlingss The Newscasters)

fun dialogue: create good back-and-forth, (something i’m still working on!)! this will help your characters develop personality, and that way, readers will start to develop that themselves as well (ie. dad!yoongi from insemination wars by prolixitae is such a specific character that i love so much!, or obiwrites’ garden characters were so memorable!)

create memorable personalities: don’t give me a flat character, try to develop 4d personalities in all of your characters! (im still working on this too!) this way you can really make an impression on your followers! a great way to practice/recognize this is: “Ask my Character.” Can your followers ask a specific character a specific question, and would you be able to deliver an answer that is very specific to that character’s tone/voice/personality? If yes, then ur doing well! If not, try to think of ways that you can make tht specific character from a specific story, really unique and separate from your other characters.

6. some practical writing tips

be yourself, write for your own pleasure, blah blah blah; yeah you know already haha but here are a few more practical tips! 

grammar check: if you can, try and hone your grammar! makes for an easier read 

write like you: i personally LOVE this by obiwrites, but even the way she writes exudes her personality and is so specific; try not to be caught up in adding hundreds of synonyms and exquisite language; in fact, simpling it down and being more concise and honest with your writing is better than a superfluous sentence; this will also give ur characters so much more dimension and funk

use those commas/sentence variation: try to use more commas; this will feel like you’re the narrator to your own story; it also makes it more fluid to read in my opinion, over those short. clipped. sentences. (ie. “he came over, sitting down on the corner of your bed with an expression you’d never seen before” over “he walked over. he sat down, looking sad.”) 

half-half dialogue/narration: a fic with too much dialogue can get confusing, and a fic with too much narration can get dry; try to balance them out, and weave in and out of each! 

quality over quantity: don’t feel burdened to write a 30k word fic. in fact, i think some of the shorter fics (ie. any of versigny’s stuff) made a bigger impression on me over the longer fics because they were short, left me wanting more, and were just so high-quality in such small quantities. try out your hand at drabbles and one-shots, and don’t feel too burdened to try and develop a series right off the bat! 

abandon pigeon-holes: i’m guilty of this; i start series and then end up with no vision for the stories and they end up giving me writers block. its okay. just stop or discontinue them or leave them on a hiatus; it’s okay. your priority is yourself, and if abandoning certain works are part of that, then go ahead. it’ll help you progress more.
