Spoilers for my fave part of Skybound Transformers #18 under the cut

With me being a MegaSound enjoyer, I GOTTA talk about their moment in #18.

Also, before we get into that — honorable mention to me in December where I said:

I actually had made this comment specifically because I noticed that in Skybound Transformers the Transformers were notably very friendly/touchy with each other, as inspired by the G1 cartoon, and that Soundwave appeared a Megatron loyalist.

...NONETHELESS I'M STILL SO SURPRISED IT ACTUALLY HAPPENED.

One thing that surprised me is that Megatron is very level-headed and calm — instead of immediately angrily dealing with Starscream, he opts to repair Ravage.

Looking back, this Megatron seems to have some quirky abilities in general... such as in the Energon Universe Special 2024 where he just reconnects his arm. I wonder if we'll get an explanation for his special abilities in #19?

Anyways, onto the pages/panels that have been etched into my brain:

I'M SO UNWELL ABOUT THEM. I LOVE THIS SO MUCH.

As someone who knows a thing or two about them... their relationship has never been portrayed quite like this before, and I'm so happy for this!!!

One thing I have absolutely yearned to see in their relationship is this explicit recognition of one another — it never made sense to me why it was something that always remained largely unspoken between them when oftentimes a large part of Soundwave's character is being a Megatron loyalist. I'm so glad to see his loyalty being affirmed and responded to in such a meaningful way.

Here we see Megatron value Ravage as well as recognize what he is to Soundwave. I'm quite glad they all have a cohesive dynamic between each other like this.

i can't get over soundwave kneeling and saying "my master" omfg. I CAN'T GET OVER IT....

Back in #7 we saw the Decepticons kneeling for Soundwave after he assumed Decepticon leadership and they chanted his name. Soundwave kneeling, but also holding onto Megatron's extended hand/finger feels far more personal and even reverent — especially with the "faithful servant" and "my master" lines.

I could talk about what this contributes to what the Decepticons are being built up as, but I'll save a Skybound Decepticon analysis post for when #19 is out xD.

^ It's very interesting how "master" is used instead of the more typical "lord".

I'm super loving Skybound Megatron so far, he's so intriguing and such a cool interpretation of Megatron. I also love looking back and seeing Megatron's ideological influence on Soundwave's ideals/leadership.

Megatron having serious damage but still maintaining every ounce of his evil threat and danger is something I looove.

Prior to Skybound, IDW Transformers vs. G.I. Joe (2014) explicitly referred to Soundwave as the cassettes' father. I didn't actually read this comic, save for issue #10's prose story at the back "Black Cybertron" and I was quite surprised... it's definitely meant to be read in context with the all prior issues LOL.

It is curious how it appears that Frenzy/Rumble aren't included in said family in Skybound?

Megatron calling Ravage "small thing" reminded me of him calling the father he spared in the Energon Universe Special 2024 the same thing xD.

...I forgot to explain yesterday I recommended reading the Void Rivals comic because of the Transformers #19 cover xD — in Void Rivals the Transformers' enslavement by the Quintessons origin (the "Age of Wrath") is detailed. Megatron alluded to this origin in — you guessed it — the Energon Universe Special 2024.

next TF vol (4) is called "Conquer and Control" which I'm excited for xD im hoping so hard for continued good moments between megatron and soundwave

OK IM GONNA TALK ABOUT ASPIDIMORPHA MILIARIS BECAUSE OH MY GOD THEYRE SO PRETTY

They have that artsy look like the Dynastes tityus beetle but while the Dynastes tityus has a more older artsy look, the Aspidimorpha miliaris reminds me of modern abstract art

And also the bright warm yellow color underneath this sick ass COMPLETELY CLEAR ELYTRON WITH BLACK SPOTS LIKE COMMON

Its so fascinating how one type of beetle can look beautiful like old porcelain and another beetle can look like an abstract painting

The Aspidimorpha miliaris, also called a spotted tortoise beetle, is a type of Asian lady beetle that def deserves more recognition, ive been noticing how much hate Asian lady beetles have been getting lately and it’s driving me crazy, like I get it’s mostly people who aren’t really into insects thinking that they found a lady bug and when they find out it’s an Asian lady beetle they go “oh…🫤🫤” like I get it but jeez 😭

Like it might just be an entomologist thing or a me thing but whenever I find an insect I don’t care what type or species it is I’m just happy as shit that I found a bug of any kind in the first place

Like I’ve sat for hours staring at a single ant I found on the ground 😭 like beetles might be my favorite species of insect but I really have a passion for all insects and I love every single one of them even the aggressive and smelly Asian lady beetles

ahh finally finished season 2! i gotta say this season was definitely fun. the different calls were really cool and it was nice seeing hen, chimney & bobby’s backgrounds!

i wasn’t surprised eddies wife died, but i didn’t like seeing eddie so sad, but i loved how fast he went to bobby for comfort.

was nice seeing maddie get the recognition she deserves and stay being on call cause she helps so much and does her job justice!! need more workers like her irl

im so weirdly stuck on killua asking morel for help in tracking down illumi. i've been thinking on and off a little bit lately about how killua's understanding of/outlook on the hunter association might change as he gets older, and i've been leaning towards the idea that he starts to see its atrocities for what they are and ceases to have any use for the association, and while watching him leverage the power he does currently have in that institution for what's essentially personal gain i had to make myself stop and interrogate that impulse, and ask whether that was something i decided on just because it makes him more sympathetic to me personally, or if it's something i really think is believable about his character.

it's like. a mutual pointed out in its own post recently that killua has this very strong in-group/out-group kind of view of the world, likely because of how he was raised as part of the zoldyck clan, and so his idea of standing up for what's right is very much centered around the people he personally cares about, and having empathy for like. People In General as a group deserving of respect and compassion is something he's had to learn after the fact, and has been picking up fairly slowly - arguably the only time we see this informing his actions even marginally is when he tries to disrupt the ants' regime in east gorteau because most of the rest of the time he is just so dead focused on gon's well-being, and even in that one case it does have some benefit to him beyond just the virtue of performing a greater moral good in the world. killua does seem very aware of his own place in the world, what his assets and disadvantages are, and what systemic power he has and how he can leverage it; they discussed on mcp today how the line "we really are father and son" is kind of a recognition, and a challenge to silva, that killua is capable of acting on a level that can directly threaten his family, and we also see how killua is aware of the political factions competing in the hunter election, and how his own actions could sway those platforms, and by using that insight to benefit alluka, he's just playing back into that in-group/out-group way of thinking - he doesn't actually seem all that concerned for the well-being of the needlemen themselves outside of a broad recognition that the way illumi uses his nen is "wrong." but we've also seen killua undergoing this immense change throughout hxh, and that in-group has been slowly expanding as his capacity for empathy grows - and while i do think killua is ultimately always going to be a little cliquey in the way he makes connections and chooses who he wants to be close to, i also believe this journey he's been on is one that will ultimately lead him to have a more open heart and mind for the strangers around him. and so while there's a part of me that despairs at watching killua use his own political power like this, i still think my initial impulse is at least pointed in the right direction; a killua who's aware of the power he has and continues to use it for his own gain regardless of the effect his actions have on the population at large is, to put it simply, if reductively, an "evil" killua, and a killua i think we've already left behind - i do believe that the trajectory of his development has been moving him away from this space, and i also think it's important to the continuation of that development that he's choosing to stay with alluka, who wouldn't want him acting like that either and who he respects enough to listen to when she protests; even beyond that, his own family acknowledges that he wouldn't be happy to heal gon if it was at the expense of tens of thousands of lives (even if only out of consideration for gon's feelings on the matter). so like. yes it does feel shitty to watch killua using his own systemic sway for the sole benefit of his in-group, but also he's thirteen, and weird about intimacy and who "counts" as a person, and at the same time has also visibly been walking down a path that will likely end up leading him away from that way of thinking, so i have faith that he'll figure it out lol

Okie! So! As someone who hasn't finished the game yet, I thought it would be cool to list off a few predictions here and see if they end up being right! I'll do 12, one for each month of the year. Sorta in the new year spirit yknow?

So, there are definitely gonna be spoilers in this post so the rest will be below the cut! I've managed to stay away from a good deal of big in game spoilers, so I shouldn't be too tainted in my guesses, lol.

Important note: I tend to have weird pattern recognition with media, so I'm usually either pretty accurate or pretty off base, no in the middle. I think I'm fairly accurate on most of these, but I guess I'll have to see! In no particular order, here we go!

1. Starting off obvious . The weird Wraith thing, gloom howler(??) in Davrin's quests, has something to do the Last Flight. I dunno what yet, I wouldn't be surprised if it's something caused by Isseya's bood magic?? But ofc they are gonna tie in Last flight somehow, it's the origin of our current gryphons!

2. This one I have no evidence to back up at all, but someone's gonna die by the end. I feel it in my bones? This game is light and fun in some ways but I feel an air of tragedy, and I would put money on it specifically being related to one of our companions. And probably it's gonna be one of those scenarios where WE have to decide too, uhg. Hate those

3. Something is up with varric. Like a BIG something? Ill be quite upset if im right. At first I thought that maybe he'd betray us or something, because this game also has an air of betrayal, but I've been really sitting on it yknow. I've noticed, he's never mentioned by the others, he very rarely shows up in cutscenes he should probably be in, and he's shown no getting better. Another thing that's bothering me, is when harding touched the dagger, there was an entire awakening, but the dagger went INSIDE of varric, literally interacted with his blood, and nothing? Nothing at all? It just isn't adding up. I'm starting to think that this might be that one trope, where we see a charcater the whole time but it turns out it was just in the mc's head?? If I'm right I'm gonna be SO upset. He just feels so weird.

4. There is probably gonna be a problem with Taash's mom? I've no evidence, but parents don't tend to last very well in this series? And Taash has a parent who while a little iffy, would probably still do almost anything to protect them I feel like. Within the series we tend to get this history of charcaters who love and would do anything for someone, sacrificing themselves. So. Yknow. I guess I'll see? As someone who relates to their relationship I want it to all turn out well but idk.

5. Rook is prolly gonna have a say in if Emmerich becomes a lich? I say this mostly because in the games, the Mc ALWAYS ends up making final choices for charcaters so, I already have a decent idea of some of the choices I'm gonna have to make based on the early quests

6. In the same air, rook will probably have a say in what goes on with Bellara's brother? That's what I think it's gonna be in her quest at least. Bellara and Emmerich are the only two I can rlly guess about right now, maybe Lucanis too? But the others I haven't fully figured out what their Big decisions are, albeit I have some ideas, just nothing concrete.

7. The inquistor will not fare well. I dunno what exactly but I get the idea that bioware is gonna try to ruin us with them. Maybe they die in the end? Or maybe they just can't protect thedas like they are trying. I have a Lavellan who romanced solas, and I just know that's gotta end up tragic right? No way are they gonna give us a good happy endinggg.

8. This one's purely optimistic: the Grey Wardens will be better. I want a world where they don't hide as much. So I'm gonna say, that they get their act together and stop some of the secrets.

9. To counteract the previous one: the Grey Wardens are over. Forever. From what I can tell the current stuff in game is the blight to end all blights. And maybe people will just decide they don't need the Grey Wardens any more ):

10. Neve and lucanis are gonna be a thing? Hasn't happened yet in my game, but MAN do they have banter. It's gotta be like Bull and Dorian ya? They r totally a thing. Low key ship others more, butttt Neve and Lucanis is still pretty cute, they could match very well.

11. Ghilan'nain is probably gonna be secondary to Elgar'nan when It comes to defeating them? As in she will probably die first, and he will be the finale. I say this because he seems like the type to toss her to the side if it'll get him what he wants. But what I want to happen, is her betraying him and going to the "good" side. Lol. I just like her so much, i hope we get to see a softer side to her, even if we have to end up killing her or something.

12. The titans, or more likely the dwarves, will gain a new connection? I wanna say they will reconnect the titans to the fade in some way, but it just seems too complicated for them to go for in the game I think. And I believe most of the titans are dead, if not all of them? So I dunno. But it would be suuuuper cool to see the dwarves regain a connection to something yknow, to see more of them become like harding. And I think it would be healing for them.

2024 review

2024 was the year I really got into writing for ateez. I've been writing fanfics since middle school and used to be in a lot of different fandoms. I used to post on wattpad, but was never consistent or managed to finish any of my stories. Ateez is the first group/fandom that I've really kept writing for a long period of time and not lost interest in, plus I've also managed to write complete oneshots and am almost even done with my first series (ever)!!!

One of the very first things I saw of Tetro were your comics. I hope I have most of them saved, because they were all incredible. I love your artstyle so much. It’s so soft and cozy, and I adore the way you draw Hasemura. As I was getting into Tetro, recognizing your art always made me super happy.

Your spider lily Kamimura art, your I Won’t Say I’m In Love animatic, your full color drawings, along with all the other things, made me so happy. The art you did for Kamimura’s birthday genuinely made me tear up a little bit. Seeing all of the various Kamimuras you’d drawn...

So much of your art I sent to my friends with all caps, so many of your comics I cursed myself for not thinking of, so many posts from you that made me giggle or cry or sometimes both.

synopsis; your confusing newfound relationship with Arthur has now started to progress further..

Trapped in his embrace, you began to increasingly panic. Maybe if you just pretended to fall asleep for awhile? Or do you just pull out of his grip?

You took the riskier option, having to pull with every muscle and get out of his strong arms. He stirred slightly, the gentle sunlight gracing his relaxed face as he dozed off.

You changed back into your now dry jeans, keeping his shirt on as you spray some deodorant and perfume on that you had in your bag. Slipping down the stairs and into the kitchen you made some breakfast, humming a tune from a shitty song, mixing the eggs in the pan.

"Something smells good." A deep voice announces, accompanied by the steps that it was taking towards you.

Slightly jumping, forgetting it wasn't just you in this incredible house.

"Oh yeah sorry, thought I'd just make us something." You cringed at the thought of this, you 24 hours ago wouldn't of have believed the situation.

He sat opposite on the kitchen island, rubbing his eyes groggily.

"I don't wanna bring this up, but like, sleeping together? What do we make of that?" Stirring the scrambled eggs before stopping, looking up and being met with Arthur's raised eyebrows.

Little did you know, that egg shell was about to start war.

Turning around with a smirk plastered on your face, thinking you'd finally won against him. Getting the pancake mix ready, you felt something wet and gooey fall on your head, running down the back of your neck.

Splatters everywhere. Ketchup in places it shouldn't be. Equally soaked in milk and runny yolk dripping.

Sat down on the wet floor opposite each other, absolutely beat by your childish activities. Trying to pretend like Arthur didn't pick you up by the waist, screaming when dropped you in a concoction of blueberries, smashed avocado and strawberry jam. Or closing you into the corner of the kitchen, his hot and heavy breath millimetres away from your plump lips, moment ruined by yoghurt falling and saturating your hair.

As you went to shower, for the second time, in Arthur Leclerc's shower, he posted something on his story.

Agreeing to a peace treaty, you headed to work in Arthur's car again, wearing another one of his tops and a pair of his joggers since he insisted.

Walking through the double doors to the academy together, huge smiles plastered on your faces was truly a sight that had to be seen with your own eyes.

I’ve been in the jkk space for the past 7 years and one creative aspect of the fandom that I love and cherish is the fanfic aspect of it!

I’ve been an avid reader of jkk fanfics and witnessed eras and waves of popular authors come and go. I feel like recently, fanfic isn’t given enough love and (idk maybe it’s just my perspective) but I feel like the jkk writing community has diminished over the years. This is most definitely because of the amount of hate and harassment authors receive. The amount of authors I follow on Twitter who have completely stopped writing for jkk or even left the fandom breaks my heart.

So, thank you for sharing these stories so we’re exposed to all these wonderful creators! Accounts like yours are so important for maintaining creative spaces within fandoms!

I completely agree with you. There are so many authors and stories that do not get the recognition and the love they deserve. I am grateful for the writers, for always comforting us with their stories. I had to leave twitter too because of the toxic environment pertaining to fanfiction and so many authors who were my friends and some still were harassed. A lot of fan fic rec accounts were harassed too when i left twitter in 2022. I have writer friends who have left twitter because of the constant bullying and similar experiences, and it hurts me that they will never feel safe on that app anymore. So many authors have deleted their stories because of the harassement, and it is so disheartening. I somehow managed to gain courage to open a twitter account but deep down I am still afraid. This is the main reason I don't post on my Twitter account. I was so afraid to begin this account, but jikookficsdiarry has become my safe place🤍🥹

I really wanted a platform where I could still express my love for writers and fanfiction and jikook without being afraid. I am so greatful to have finally found it. We all know anime awards have started nominations and everyone is arguing everywhere but I wanted to weigh in too

SPOILERS INCOMING BELOW THE LINE, READ AT UR OWN RISK

Im specifically gonna talk about Anime of the Year nominees:

Firstly im going to explain y I absolutely would not personally be happy if Solo Leveling wins Anime of the Year as a long time reader and watcher of the series.

While I love Solo Leveling and I absolutely adore Sung Jin-Woo it doesn't deserve Anime of the Year for multiple reasons. While I cannot agree it's copy and paste slop like many say I can say it doesn't come close enough to hit the mark. It's unique in the way it portrays isekai, the fantasy world coming to us instead of us going to it, and the systems and mechanics can be very interesting and vast depending on the section of the story. Not especially extravagant but provides a slightly different perspective that I personally find compelling. The characters are vast in personalities and aesthetics while still being informative, there isn't a single character that is filler, most if not all show up multiple times with backgrounds and aspirations. The Anime is simply an aura farming speed run, I won't deny that, but its enjoyable in it's own way. Still, it doesn't have much new or innovative to it and should not be Anime of the Year.

Next we explore DAN DA DAN.

I love the idea of DAN DA DAN but I wish it wasn't just gooner bair covered up by miscellaneous ghosts and aliens. Takakura and Momo are great examples of real high school kids when in normal settings, Momo is reserved and being a teenager has farfetched goals and aspirations as well as attitude problems that come from a need for rebellion. Takakura is meek and nervous and much like most teenage boys does his best to make a good impression even if nobody likes him. If there was less nudity, more fighting and more romance it would be a good Anime. The mangaka put lots of effort into researching real teenager relationships to make authentic and real feeling relationships. Unfortunately there's nudity and rape every two or three episodes and that completely ruins it for most viewers including myself who is desensitized to those things in ADULT media. Nudity and rape are things that shouldn't be tiptoed around as they're real and do happen everyday, but they shouldn't be romanticized or used for plot relevance just because.

Now we get to Kaiju No.8.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE this series. I have been following it from the beginning with heart shaped eyes like a dog and can say I haven't changed my mind that it's good. Kafka is a good main character, a middle aged man with realistic aspirations and goals. When realizing he isn't fit for something he doesn't mope, he does something else that is just as important to everyone's well being. Even after getting turned into a rank 9.8 kaiju he doesn't stop being Kafka or get on an ego trip now that he's stronger or more capable. He understands that more importantly than being a danger to himself he is a danger to other people and wants to keep everyone safe. The diverse relationships he makes simply by being him, being encouraging and helpful to others who r more capable in his squad. When worst comes to worst he's willing to risk his life for the life of many others, not because he wants the recognition or because he wants to believe he's superior but because the lives of many people are more important than his own. Other characters in the series r personable and likable, going through their character developments both together and on their own throughout the series. It's able to explain it's mechanics and tech without being confusing and the story is both compelling and easy to follow. Kaijus rnt super common in anime and I love that as well, the designs r equally disgusting and intricate.

For the fourth section we go to Frieren.

Frieren is one of the best animes I've watched in my entire 18 years of life. While both beautiful and smooth, it has good continuity, wonderful characters, unique themes and motifs and more! Frieren spends the series looking back on her past relationships over the past 1000 years with her master, friends and apprentices. Once happy to just ignore other people as they will sooner go away than she will she slowly realizes she wishes she knew more about the people she cared about in the past. While juggling her continuous journey to find odd and unique spells with her new friends and apprentice she slowly comes to terms with everything that's happened in her life. Realizing she will lose everyone eventually thanks to her long lifespan, it's more important for her to have good, vivid memories of those she cares about and to make the best of everything. She learns certain quirks she has is because she cared about past companions and is her way of making sure their memories rnt lost to the past even as the #1 adventurers of the time. It pulls at the heart strings with real emotions, shows how difficult it can be to lose the ones u love, shows how to overcome those difficulties, and make amends.

Second to last, Apothecary Diaries.

Me and my mom love this Anime as well, I've also read the manhua and light novel. Maomao, a young, apothecary in China in an era where women weren't allowed to hold jobs of high positions and were disregarded unless providing for a man, makes her way to the rear palace, the place that hold the emperors concubines. While solving mysteries and crimes of the palace she learns more about her trade and the people around her that she cares about. Her immunity to poison makes her a perfect food taster and helps her solve the issues in the palace. This series shows the complexities of women in that time. I personally have never ever watched this but have heard much about it so here I don't have much standing. Though the concept of instead of adventuring for riches or fame i have an understanding that this is a mix of a fighting and cooking Anime. This is unique and certainly very interesting compared to many other cooking animes that have come out.
