This scrungly old beast is medically complicated and on what his vet referred to as "his victory lap." He has spent his entire life refusing to eat wet cat food, instead wanting human food, grass, and kibble. This has made the last 4ish years of medical maintenance a challenge, as we have had to switch up various treats that were safe to feed him, could be mixed with his medications, and he would reliably eat.
The latest iteration was pureed chicken, mixed with a weight gain supplement and warm water.
On a whim, I mixed some wet cat food with his chicken goo, and he ate it!
So I did it again the next night, and the next, and he was into it.
Tonight, I left out the pureed chicken and mixed all his meds and supplements into the wet food.
He ate it.
It is finally possible to feed him like a normal freaking cat, and maybe, just maybe, help put on some weight and be more comfortable in his final days/weeks/months/years/decades(???) This cat doesn't act like he knows he's in decline, and as long as he's still having a good time? We're going to let him.

hello, grieving mother.
time and time again, despite your child's warnings to keep the elderly, mind you, cat inside the house, you have denied his requests because of the fear of eviction.
on the other side of this room is your child with a brand new kitten. if you make any remark about his gender, deadname, or talk about how you "can't afford a new kitten, we'll get evicted!" i will personally give your child the word to release the deadly neurotoxin in these chambers.
there is no time limit. just don't be a piece of fucking shit.

cats are not "better adjusted" when they're freeroaming
being outdoors cats decimate local wildlife at unsustainable levels, and drastically reduce your kitty's lifespan (from horrific diseases/injuries that are preventable if your cats stay inside, to cars, to other animals, to awful people who intend to bring harm) any decent shelter will not adopt out to people who will let their cats free roam (catios, leashes, yards are another mater)

Pet ownership
(tw: implied pet death, blood) -*-
It’s been a while since Saitama has felt so awful emotionally, completely wrung out after weeping for so long, but the numbness that he thought was gone since he started his hero work and Genos moved to his apartment threatens to overtake him. He looks at the blood on the floor and Saitama has never been squeamish about blood, but the thought that it might be his pet’s blood makes the smell suddenly very nauseating and vomit-inducing.
The entire place is a complete wreck too, nothing that can't be fixed but he has no heart to care about their apartment right now. He needs to get out and find Genos. Or someone. But he needs to tell Genos too about…about—
He has to stop and breathe hard, because his throat is clogging up and constricting and there's still snot in his nostrils because he didn't remember where he put the tissues and probably couldn't find them anyway. He needs air.
He swiftly walks out and slams the door on its hinges and jumps to the ground floor.
Saitama wanders numbly on the streets and realizes he has no way to call Genos; he had forgotten his cell phone in his house. He's not sure if it’s still intact. The small leash on his hands drags along the pavement and he idly tugs the rope back up, walking past monster guts and demolished apartment housing and an uncharacteristically cold and murderous feeling of vindication rises to the forefront. But that same feeling is gone as soon as he gazes at the destruction left behind by his rage. He marches onward, willing himself to not care about the repercussions.
If this is how it feels like to lose a pet that he owned for mere months, he cannot begin to fathom how it feels like to lose your entire family, your entire town. He suddenly feels like he can understand Genos a lot better now, his motivation and perseverance and everything. Tears prick his eyes again. All these feelings are so much to deal with and he still has to tell Genos.
Speak of the devil or more appropriately, the demon cyborg... Saitama squints and sure enough, Genos is walking leisurely towards him on the sidewalk and carrying a—
He lurches and is upon Genos in an instant, startling him with sudden movement in an exclamation of “Sensei, what-?” and reaches for the pet carrier and the tabby kitten held inside. The tiny cat meows in greeting and paws at the crate flap impatiently.
“How-where-”
Genos looks at him oddly and in mild worry. “We were at the veterinarian for her vaccination appointment I reserved two weeks ago, sensei. Is something wrong?”
“No, nothing’s wrong anymore…” Saitama can't stop the tears from falling anymore, making Genos gawk in distress. He probably looks like a mess. “I’ll tell you about it, let's go home.”
-*- I'm not quite as cruel to kill a pet in writing, but man...the thought would kill me too. I'm cruel enough to implicate it though. Though this is an old writing of mine. Basically Sai got a kitten and monster got into his apartment when he and Genos were away and ate some bloody meat that was taken out to be defrosted or something and wrecked the place.

Just thinking ya know. About life and stuff. How we're afraid of death because we don't know what will happen after. Do we stop existing? All I've ever known is existence, what happens if I don't exist? I won't be able to show others just how much they mean to me and I never will. Will I see you again? And even if I exist, what about others. My beloved pets. Will you be with me? Will I be able to shower you in the affection that you still deserve? And if I leave before you, if I'm never able to visit, to cheer you up and on, to sing my love and praises to you, what then? idk. I just hope that one day, even if you've forgotten what I looked, sounded, felt like, my love can still be felt. My love for others is everything and I sure hope that not even death will stop it

Oh that fee on your euthanasia charge? It's for emotional damages caused to the veterinarians. Seeing an animal die is very traumatic you know...

"Yes." | “Kneel.” | Best of Three | Correspondence | Appraisal | Collapse
Six guys in a row, on their knees, blindfolded and gagged. Major seethes, shifting his weight on throbbing knees. How much goddamn longer does he have to wait for something to happen? He caught a glimpse of the other sorry fucks kneeling beside him, as he was forced down to sit on his heels. He tried to buck up, and only got pistol whipped for it, so. He’ll just fucking wait.
“Are you going to behave?” Says someone vaguely in front of him, off to the left. Talking down at one of the kneeling guys. Major cocks his head to listen as a gag is pulled out of someone’s mouth.
“Fuck you.”
A small, mechanical click. Then something like thunder cracks. Major jerks, trying to throw himself to the floor, heart lodged in his throat. There was a flash of light, he thinks, as a fist cinches in his hair and forces him back upright. A gunshot. It was a gunshot. He doesn’t hear any groaning or screaming, just… that’s a body slumping to the ground. Heavy, dull, lifeless.
A shoe scuffing on the floor, and that voice again. “Are you going to behave?”
A gag is pulled free, and a breathless, nervous voice answers. “Uh - yeah. Yeah, sure.” It’s right beside Major, this voice. He can all but feel the guy shivering beside him, inches away. He smells like sweat and stale clothes. Major chews on the cloth in his mouth, listening hard. A click, metal on metal.
Another deafening crack, and the flash of light is brighter this time. Major’s whole body tries to flee from the noise against his will. It’s only when he’s yanked back again, his scalp burning, that he registers the hot, sticky spray that hit his face a second ago. He doesn’t have to hear the body falling to know that there is now a dead body crumpled beside him.
Fuck. Fuck, fuck, fuck. Someone is pulling the gag out of his mouth. Normally he would be cursing up a storm, demanding answers, calling these creeps every twisted insult he could string together. But for once, Major holds still, and holds his tongue. Hot metal presses to his forehead, the point of pressure small and haunting.
“Are you going to behave?”
All thoughts leave his head. There is no decision to submit. He cannot see, isn’t allowed to move, and the gun to his head makes his response come out as instinctively as a breath. “Yes,” He answers, firm in the knowledge that it is the right answer, and hushed in mortal terror. He’ll behave, whatever that means. There’s no other choice.
The cooling metal disappears. Another footstep, off to his right now. The kneeling guy on that side is barely breathing, taking in tiny gasps that probably starve him of oxygen.
Major feels dizzy himself. He wasn’t planning on caving this fucking early. Planned to be a stubborn asshole, maybe get tortured for a few weeks, or make some daring escape and kill a few fuckers on his way out. But he can tell already, from the tension in the air. From how fast those guys’ mistakes got them wiped out. He’s gotta learn fast, here, or his last thought will be that he should’ve behaved better.

A nonhuman Whumpee with horns getting tied down in a room where Whumper has a massive collection of horns and antlers on their walls, all taken from the Whumpees who failed to please them.
(Bonus if they recognize one of the horn sets as it belonged to someone they loved-)

The short time I lived in California, I once told a coworker that one of our cats had to go live on a farm and the coworker was like "oh honey..." and like, trying to figure out how to let me down gently and I had to explain to her "no I'm from Idaho, the cat is a barn cat now."
Easily one of the funniest miscommunications in my life.

:/ i'm so sad bcuz my neighbors cat is missing and its like. you could have avoided this if you didn't let him roam around outside! I love this cat, too, he's an incredibly sweet boy. and now I have to go through a bit of this heartbreak too over a very avoidable situation that I wasn't even involved in. if you love your cat, keep them inside, please.
