Staff Recruitment
Greetings! This is a post regarding staff recruitment for Concept: “Mobius”, as you probably surmised. Vertekins and I always looking to add to the ranks and make the site as detailed, informative, and cool as it can be. If you’re interested in joining, great! Let’s find you a spot! Incidentally, you may be able to fill multiple roles, but first things first. You need to run before you can Spin Attack, after all.
Concept: “Mobius” is a Sonic the Hedgehog site dedicated to information about the games within the franchise and the worlds, characters, and events within. While there are multiple wikis and whatnot that serve this purpose, we’re trying to do things differently. We want to enrich the world of the Blue Blur and hopefully make it more cohesive, less muddled, and more fun. Obviously, this is too big a job for a few people, hence the slow trickle of updates over the years.
So, we need a team to tackle this endeavor, and we have many branches for all skill sets. You'll also be asked to help out here, as well, but more on that at another time.
Writers
Arguably one of the most important roles. Writers will be contributing the bulk of the site’s content, from articles and reviews to think pieces and news blurbs. You’ll be expected to be able to spell, know your grammar, and write coherently. If the most writing you’ve done is on Twitter, you may find yourself at a loss here, especially since you’ll probably have to be your own editor, unless you ask your teammates for help (which you can, to be clear).
Artists
Another absolutely crucial role. You’ll be responsible for how the site looks: graphics, character art, zone landscapes, etc. It’ll be a big task, but you’ll always be credited for your work, with links going to whatever platform you choose.
Programmers/Modders
Your job will be to modify the games. Why? Two reasons.
We’ll be using various games for clips and showcases, and we need them to be accurate as possible. Many of them are either missing content, have various inaccuracies between one another, or just don’t look/sound/play right for our purposes. We can’t very well show Sonic’s world if it’s lackluster, can we?
We want to show what even the worst of the franchise could look/sound/play like if given the TLC they deserve.
I know this doesn’t sound necessary or worthwhile, but I assure you, it will make sense in the future.
Theorists
You’ll be helping with various theories and doing your best to plug up various plotholes in the Sonic universe. Unlike certain other game theorists, however, you’ll be expected to show restraint when speculating and not go off on tangents or grasping at whatever straws you see.
Cartographers
Your job is a doozy: making a single, DEFINITIVE map of Sonic’s Earth. You see, there have been many in the games, and they’ve been different every time, depending on the game or the area it's based in. And each one has been inconsistent. Heck, people don't even know where Green Hill Zone definitively is, despite its number of uses.
THIS.
WILL.
NOT.
DO.
If anyone is going to take Sonic lore seriously (and few people do), we need one map that can be used for every game. That way, there is more consistency in the narrative and people have a more defined view of the world.
Modelers
Your role will be to make various character renders to be used for the cast in the Character Database. You’ll be working with the artists to make the most “true to life” representations of Sonic and the others as you can. You might also find yourself recreating certain areas or scenes from the games, demonstrating various abilities, or just letting the cast style on each other.
News Reporters
You’ll be reporting on everything Sonic-related that is newsworthy, whether it be a game announcement or a funny pic from Sega. Just try not to post any memes.
That'll do for now, although, we're welcoming anyone with a notable skill set. If you think you have something to contribute to Concept: "Mobius" that is or isn't listed here, let us know. Just be aware that we can't afford to pay anyone for their work.
Thank you very much in advance!

How can Google's decisions for Chrome get any WORSE? What on earth is this?!
The gist: Google wants to implement a "feature" for website owners/developers to be selective on who can see their website. These devs (or their malicious higher-ups) could block out or limit Firefox users, Safari users, open source or indie browsers, etc. from their website; and worst of all, they could block or limit as far as the device you use.
Major concerns:
How can people even WANT this other than corrupt companies trying to force competing users to tediously go through the needed hoops to access the website? There's already the web design standard of optimizing load times to be welcoming for visitors. This ain't going to encourage anyone to have interest in your website (or its company by extension). It really will be a test of consumer trust.
Worryingly, lazy or more apathetic web developers might use this to dance around compatibility challenges in their websites. I've seen my fair share of these types of devs in the community who take the frustration of browser compatibilities too far. They're a minority (thankfully, seen in the video is the Chrome repository getting completely flooded with criticisms). But, yeah, pro-tip to web developers: Learn to prioritize the layout and order of your content in plain HTML first before you jump into design. And then build the CSS from there in a "ranking" of completely compatible with all browsers, to less compatibilities. So you can manage and keep track of how your site will look on anything out there.
The sheer fear and worry for accessibility in web design that I'm feeling from this, man. Again, it's not just browsers... Malicious entities making decisions for websites could block out or further limit accessibility devices (if they're counted) because of the extra work that comes with ensuring a website is accessible to a wide range of disabled or impaired users. I can't fully tell if screen reader software could somehow get affected, but who knows how far Google will want to go in this nightmare of a proposal.
Read more on this situation:
"It is also interesting to note that the first use case listed is about ensuring that interactions with ads are genuine. While this is not problematic on the surface, it certainly hints at the idea that Google is willing to use any means of bolstering its advertising platform, regardless of the potential harm to the users of the web."
Vivaldi Article
||
"The proposal threatens the free and open internet in a number of ways, but one of the biggest revolves around the fact that should there be a central server that attests to whether a browser can be trusted or not, it means that anything non-standard will not be trusted. In other words, new browsers would not be trusted, and legacy software would no longer be able to access much of the internet after a certain length of time. Given that it verifies the integrity of the browser, it could also technically block certain extensions (such as Adblock) if Google were to go down that route."
XDA Developers
||
"What makes the fingerprinting process somewhat insidious is that, unlike web cookies, no residue is left on a user’s computer – everything can be stored in the cloud. The fingerprint data can be collected even if users run private or incognito browsing sessions. Worse yet, each user’s fingerprint can be shared across websites without the user’s knowledge."

Solutions for web designers out there
( All animations and movement on a page should be considered for photo-sensitivity including motion sickness and vertigo. )
For animated .GIF image files:
Create a .JPG or .PNG still image version of the animations from their most important or appealing frame. That should be loaded into the HTML first instead of the .GIF.
And before we go into the optimal JavaScript interaction, let’s stick with the HTML a little more...
If you have images that are not already hyperlinked, you can instead make them link to their animated GIF version to open in a new tab (target=“_blank”). Be sure to have appropriate warnings about those links leading to the animated version of that image, right before/above the image itself for those who may be going through the page in order with some accessibility devices. (Thus, they read the warning before they interact with the link.)
Then, from there, we do the script side for this. You can store the different image file paths into your JavaScript and use mouseover/mouseout events to change the file path inside your src=“” attribute. (Here’s how you can dynamically and efficiently do this for many images and give them their own Event Listener: My JSFiddle Example.)
EDIT: I've updated the example to have a 1-second delay for the images to change into animations in case someone accidentally has their mouse over the image after the page loads in. It'll be best to also make hover/active animations optional, which will tie into the JavaScript needed to achieve the hover/active functions to begin with.
Also added a few more in-code comments for extra instruction and clarity.
Tumblr media
Another idea with JavaScript is to have a “toggle” sort of <button> on your page that someone can click/confirm whether or not everything on a page should animate/move or not. If you’re nicely familiar with JavaScript, you can make a more in-depth options menu for this sort of thing too!
Tumblr media
This is also a great solution since there are web users who look at webpages either in a simplified view or blocking all scripts (like JavaScript) from your website. They could be viewing your website like this due to personal needs, or technological limitations. And so, having a still image in your HTML by default is MUCH preferred!
For CSS @ keyframe animations:
In the raw CSS file, the default value for the animation-play-state property should be paused. We have to keep simplified view users and script-blocking users in mind for moving objects and images on our webpages. So, whatever is loaded in by default must maintain this priority.
Thankfully, sticking with the CSS, we can just as easily changed the animation-play-state to running when the element is hovered (for mouse users) or active (for touch-screen users).
For sprite sheet animations:
If you’ve figured out how to make sprite animations on a web doc, then you’re already involved in the JavaScript for it and familiar with the code. Or, you're doing it the pure CSS way (see here). In which you can refer back to the @ keyframe section above.
So, here’s a general guideline that you can follow in JavaScript!
The sprite sheet element in your CSS should focus on your most important frame that you want to be seen by users on the default page appearance. Set its background-position to that frame inside the CSS.
For users who can load JavaScript on the page, set that element to toggle its animation by mouseover/mouseout or clicking.
For users who cannot load the JavaScript, the next best thing is to build the sprite animation from CSS keyframe steps().
And for most absolute safe case scenario in case of browser or device compatibility issues with any of these properties in the CSS, you could make an animated .GIF file of your sprite sheet. Make sure it's under 1Mb for users in this category who are also likely to be viewing your page from slow download speeds. With that, refer back to the section for handling image files without JavaScript.
Hopefully this is of great help, if not a starting point for accessibility ideas and considerations for your websites!
pleeeeeeeease indie web and scenecore and whatever other subcultures.... have fun and be cringe but PLEASE be careful with your blinkies. if your website has flashing lights that are on by default or that can't be turned off, then it is inaccessible to photosensitive people. if your post has flashing lights, it needs to be tagged. PLEASE. i love indie web stuff but the prevalence of unavoidable flashing lights makes me really anxious!! people have migraines and seizures! please use tags like "flashing lights" and "eye strain," NOT "epilepsy" or "epilepsy warning," and please consider making your site accessible by removing flashing lights or making them avoidable. PLEASE. make the web usable for photosensitive people.

Tumblr media
With the rise of mobile phones and mobile phone users, having a mobile-optimized website is more important than ever before.

Keeping your website the old way is not a good exercise. We suggest you put your website for mobile optimization check and there you’ll get to know what lacks when you are losing the traffic to your website. Mobiles are the essential modern need for humans to use as shopping devices, searching devices, playing games, and whatnot.
If are going to check the statistics of how mobile devices became irreplaceable -

The mobile device has 58.21% of global internet traffic.
These numbers are enough to show you how a mobile-friendly website opens a door of opportunity for you.
Here in this blog, we’re going to discuss the importance of mobile optimization which is mandatory to rank in the search engine result pages (SERPs).
Mobile has become the global source of information.
As the number of mobile devices has increased in recent years, more and more people are using mobile phones to access the internet. If a website isn’t optimized for mobile devices, you are missing out on reaching a great number of audiences who will be searching for the products or services you are offering.
Do you have a memory of browsing on your desktop recently? Nope, right? Now, this is the reason your website has to be mobile-optimized.
Google prefers mobile-optimized sites over non-mobile-optimised sites.
Search engine optimization is the reason behind getting your website noticed by people. As the biggest and most famous search engine, Google prioritizes mobile-friendliness over anything. The mobile version of your website is now the primary version Google uses for ranking and indexing.
When you opt for an agency, they get started with the SEO website optimization process by making your website responsive for all the devices every user uses.
Give users the best experience to stay on your website.
People expect to have a smooth website experience when they are searching for something from their mobile device. If your site takes more than 3 seconds to load, people will abandon it. Users expect to have easy access, clear menus, readable content, etc. that will make them want to stay and revisit your website.
A slow website, images take time to load, they need to zoom content to read, etc are the down points for your website. These are the reasons your bounce rate will be high.
Mobile optimization is the first step towards improving your website.
Processing mobile optimization is not rocket science. Other elements make the mobile experience more delightful.
Responsive design — This element ensures your website automatically adjusts to the size of a user's device.
Fast-loading website — No one likes to wait for a website to load, especially on mobile. Minimize the code, optimize big images, and keep things appropriate to load websites fast.
Give priority to content — Give priority to website content and make it to the point and concise for users to read.
In today’s digital ecosystem, SEO mobile optimization is necessary.
Mobile optimization for e-commerce websites is a must.

Exploring Fault Proofs in Optimism: An Overview
Tumblr media
The activation of fault proofs by Optimism marks a significant advancement in Ethereum Layer 2 scaling solutions, completing the first stage of its decentralization plan. This milestone is pivotal for enhancing the network's security and trustlessness, reducing reliance on centralized entities like the Optimism Security Council. Previously, the council monitored transactions and intervened to prevent fraud, but with the new fault proof system, any party can now challenge transactions, moving towards a more decentralized and inclusive network.
Ethereum's high transaction fees have made Layer 2 scaling solutions, such as rollups, essential. Optimism's fault proofs ensure that off-chain transactions are valid by allowing a challenge period where anyone can contest a transaction's validity. If a challenge is raised, a fault proof is provided and verified by the Ethereum mainnet, ensuring that invalid transactions are reverted.
This process significantly enhances the security and integrity of the blockchain. Unlike Arbitrum, which relies on 12 validators, Optimism's fault proof system is designed to be trustless and decentralized, enabling broader participation in transaction verification.
Despite initial challenges with proof generation and verification speeds, Optimism has optimized its fault proof mechanisms to be compatible with Ethereum's Layer 1. This achievement not only improves the security and decentralization of the network but also sets a benchmark for other rollup technologies.
The activation of fault proofs highlights the importance of continuous innovation and rigorous testing in the blockchain space. For more in-depth insights and exclusive research, join our Web3 Sync community on Intelisync and Learn more...
