“Invisible” Chapter 2: Stand in the Light
A year has passed since that night when your life changed forever.  You fled the city of your birth and never looked back.  You now lead a quiet life as a healer’s apprentice in a town far from your home.  The prince of this region is a bit… odd, but his people were more or less happy and Prince Average had never met you so there was no chance he’d recognize you if you were to see him in the streets.
You lived in the attic above the shop that your teacher, Mistress Grey, ran.  She hadn’t asked too many questions when you’d answered her help wanted sign.  Your knowledge of herbs and slaves had been more than enough for her to take you on as an apprentice and the work suited you.  You’d been getting on well enough that she largely left the general business of making remedies to you these days.  Her daughter ran the shop below and was kind to you, even if she had no healing gift herself.  She knew the stock and that was all that she really needed.
You step out onto the rooftop terrace where your herb garden thrives.  Your assortment of healing herbs and flowers was probably half the reason your teacher had taken you on so easily.  You smile as you trail your fingertips over the leaves and petals around you, each plant seeming to twine briefly around your hand as you pass over it.  Pulses of joy and contentment at the morning sun’s rays filtered through their touch and into your mind.   Good, you could enjoy your day off to its fullest.
Today was the last day of the local festival and your teacher had given you leave to enjoy the celebration.  She was to depart the next morning to buy some of the rarer materials needed in the practice’s medicines, so you needed to enjoy the time off while you had it.  She’d offered to bring you with her, but this particular trip would go a bit too close to your hometown for comfort.
Even in the short time you’d been with Mistress Grey you’d been able to travel all over the continent.  She’d even taken you to the ocean!  That had been a fun trip and she’d taught you all sorts of medicinal uses for various seaweeds.  You’d miss her while she was gone this time.  Her daughter, Marina, was your age though and was excellent company.
You left the terrace, closing the doors behind you before going to examine yourself in the mirror.  Your hair was done up in a braided crown, silk flowers woven into it in hues of pink and white.  Your green dress was well suited to the spring festivities and beautiful weather.
Taking your light cloak off of the hook by the door you make your way downstairs.  Marina is packing jars of salves and pouches of dried herbs into a large basket, probably to bring out to the stall set up in front of the shop for the festival.  She looks up and smiles at you as you peer into the basket.
“Are you sure you have enough for today?” you ask as you notice certain cures are looking a bit low, namely the hangover teas.  Not surprising given the parties that went on during festivals.
Marina playfully rolls her eyes at you, “Yes of course!  Mother is already working on packaging up what you two made yesterday.  Go enjoy yourself.  I saw the baker putting out some of those croissants you love so much.  If you hurry you’ll catch them while they’re still warm.”
“Fine fine.  But you will let me know if you need me, yes?” you pull a necklace out from the front of your dress.  It’s a simple leather cord with what looks to be a plain white adder stone hanging from it.  There was magic in the rock.  If Marina or her mother activated their own stones it would let you know to return to the shop post haste.  They’d been a pricey bit of magic, but completely necessary when emergency patients came through the door.
“You know I will,” Marina made a shooing gesture with her free hand, “Now leave before I tell mother that you need a whole WEEK off.”
You gasp in mock horror before giving her a quick hug and heading out the front door.
It was still a bit early and most of the stalls were only just finishing their set-ups, but the baker was already quite busy.   Even so, he spotted you and waved you past the crowd, “I set one aside special for you my dear.  You really helped me out of a bind with those herbs.  I really thought we’d ordered enough but that boy must have counted our stock wrong.”
“Don’t be too harsh on him, he is your grandson after all,” you smile as you gratefully accept the offered croissant swirled with pink strawberry jelly, “He’ll get the hang of it.”
The baker sniffs but it’s obvious he isn’t actually mad about the situation.  Just putting on a face, “Well, either way, keep me in mind if you ever have a surplus in the future.  I don’t know how you grow such flavorful stock but you truly have a gift.” “I will!  Thank you for the breakfast!”  You wave and duck out of the way of the hungry crowd.
You munch on the pastry as you wander through the stalls, stopping here and there to browse and occasionally purchase items to be delivered to the shop later on.  There are dancers, musicians, and other artists displaying their talents for everyone to witness and you stop here and there to watch and listen, your body swaying gently to the music.
As the day goes on the town square begins getting set up for the evening musical performances and the dance that will likely last until the wee hours of the morning.  Multicolor paper lanterns are strung from cords above the square and lit with care.  Vendors sell the springbell flowers that are the icon of this particular festival.  It’s tradition to buy one to give to those you hold great affection for.  A symbol of the hope that your bond will grow in the year to come.  The flower is one that can sprout roots from its stem when tended with care, and it’s considered good luck if the flower you’re gifted with thrives under your care.
You stop at one of the carts, “Two please,” you reach into your belt pouch and pull out the required coins, handing them to the seller as she hands you back three of the blooms, “Oh, you gave me an extra one…” The woman shakes her head, “It’s the same price for three as it is for two.  We had a good harvest this year.  Thanks for that fertilizer by the way.  It worked like magic!” “I’m glad!  Let me know if you need more.” you carefully tuck the blooms away in a hardshell leather pouch, making sure the stems are properly wrapped before closing them up safely inside.
As you turn back towards the town square you hear shouting coming from one of the alleyways.  Out of curiosity you make your way towards the sound.  Whomever is making the noise is clearly moving away from the main street but you can still make out some words.  ‘Hand it over’ stands out in particular.  You hurry after the retreating sounds, reaching out with your inner magic to feel for the roots under the paving stones and the vines crawling up walls.
The alleyway makes a sharp turn behind a shop that’s closed for the festival, which would explain how no one else had noticed this happening in what was a mostly safe town.  You press yourself against the wall before peeking around the corner.  You see two men, clearly not locals, standing over something, or rather… someone.  You can’t see whomever they’re harassing, but it clearly isn’t a friendly encounter.
“I can tell by your clothes that you’ve got money dwarf, so hand it over and we’ll let you go without TOO much damage.” the man’s companion chuckles darkly as he flips a knife in the air.
“Ah yes well, you see there’s the problem,” the responding voice is heavily accented, but speaks with a distinctly calm air.  You aren’t sure if it’s confidence or stupidity, but either way  you can’t stand idly by.
“Hey!” you shout as you step out from behind the corner.  You can feel the magic in the earth below you responding to your anger.  How dare these thugs try to ruin someone’s day like this!  Your attention is locked on the two who whirl to face you, so you don’t really see who they were threatening before said person seems to blink out of existence.  A fellow magic user?  Well that would explain why he hadn’t seemed concerned.  Of course that left you with two very tall, very buff thieves to deal with on your own.
They both narrow their eyes, then sly gins split their faces as they realize they’re dealing with a single, if a bit angry looking, girl.
“Well well, what do we have here?” the knife flipper takes a step towards you.
“You lost us our payday girlie…” the other growls, “You should have just kept going.” “Maybe so,” You can feel the roots under their feet pushing at the flagstones, “But maybe you two just picked the wrong town.”
You’re about to call the roots up to tangle their legs when a barrel lid comes flying out of nowhere, braining the knife guy upside the head.  The other turns, confused, just in time for an invisible something to come crashing into his nose, causing blood to spray as it breaks.  He sears as he looks around in a panic.  His eyes land on you, “W-witch!”
You probably look just as confused as he does, “That wasn’t me...”  You gather yourself and smile at the guy, “Looks like you’ve ticked off the town’s guardian spirit.”  The lie rolls smoothly off of your tongue, you father was a master merchant after all.  You knew your fair share of fast talking.
“G-guardian spirit?  You’re lying!” he tries to help his dazed companion back to his feet with one arm while his other hand covers his bleeding nose.
“Well, I could be.  But then, if I’m lying then you’re right and I’m a witch that you just pissed off,” you shrug, “Either way, I’d say you’re screwed.”
The man’s eyes widen, “You’ll regret this!” he drags his friend along with him as he flees into the surrounding woods.
“Doubtful,” you mutter as he disappears from sight.  You send energy down the connected lifeforce of the woods, urging the very forest itself to trip up and otherwise hinder the thugs, lending credence to the claim of a ‘guardian spirit’.  When you’re sure that they aren’t coming back you scan the alleyway, “Hello…?”
Silence greets you for a long while, then that accented voice answers you, “Merci mademoiselle, for the rescue.”  ------------------------------------------------------ Fanfic “Invisible” is available to read on Wattpad https://www.wattpad.com/story/259956086-invisible-jack-x-reader

Romance MD: Always on Call Munechika Takado Review (if you can really call it that)
Honestly I wasn’t expecting to write a review on this, because; 1. I wasn’t the slightest bit interested in the newest release. 2. And secondly…well I don’t write reviews.
But I haven’t seen that much noise about this title yet; whether that’s due to the lack of interest, the lengthy time it takes to read this whole story, the frustrating amount of hearts (A.K.A your hard earned dollar) you have to spend to achieve a SHE, or perhaps all of the above.
When I saw advertisements for Love 365’s latest release, I honestly didn’t give a damn. Oh joy, another Love Choice title (which by the way everyone asked for…not), the same old character types (I felt like Voltage should’ve changed their name to ‘Oresama’s R Us’) and I didn’t take a liking to any of the character’s physical looks either (except Kasumi, what a babe.)
So when Romance MD was finally released I wasn’t rushing to read it. Lately I’ve been more preoccupied reading another otome (Mr Love Queen’s Choice, if anyone is interested) rather than any releases on Love 365 as it just isn’t giving me that enticing story that I’d throw away life’s commitments in an instant to read. After reading Takado’s story, I only wish that I’d stop judging a book by it’s cover (although I know I definitely won’t).
I found myself reading through the story mostly because it was free (we already know the debate on that one, in the end I think I spent £14) and because I was bored. However, it wasn’t long before I found myself being sucked into the story and just thoroughly enjoying the interactions between the characters.
The MC
I could describe the MC as a breath of fresh air, I could describe her as a complete car crash but I feel as though a more accurate description is Marmite. For those of you who don’t know (probably anyone outside of the UK), Marmite is a food spread that people have on toast/sandwiches etc. The debate is that there are thousands of people who love Marmite more than their firstborn child but on the other hand there’s equally as many people who think Marmite is the work of Satan himself, and would find their dog’s faeces more appetising. So I can’t help but feel like you’ll love her for being new, exciting and different…or you’ll hate her because she’s extremely arrogant, a know-it-all and just plain annoying.
Reasons to love the MC:
She’s clever, like really clever. I have no idea what half those words mean that come out of her mouth but this girl knows her shit.
She’s determined and persistent. I mean, I guess all MC’s are when I think about it but it’s generally a good trait to have. The MC doesn’t let Takado out of her sight for a second, even using her skills of being on the track team in highschool to sprint after him when he tries to run away which is highly hilarious. Although can you imagine an MC who isn’t persistent? We’d have no story. Kind of funny thinking about that actually, an MC who just says “Right! I’ve had enough of you abusing me, I’m off home to eat ice cream and watch Netflix. You continue cutting people’s legs off willy nilly like they can grow back.”
She’s relatable. I can’t stress this one enough. Yeah maybe not the medical textbook mumbo jumbo but the social awkwardness and the constant daydreams of Sekai (her otome boyfriend) is something many of us can understand.
Tumblr media
She’s not a sheep. This girl has a mind of her own. I take my hat off to her for going up against her superior’s when she thinks something is wrong, I don’t have that kind of backbone.
Reasons to hate the MC:
She can be plain rude. Like I can praise the girl for sticking up for herself but sometimes she’s a little too tart-tongued for my liking. I did cringe a bit, wishing she’d dial things back from time to time.
Missing some classic MC traits, comes across as arrogant. I mean, I guess this one is personal preference. I do like the more outgoing MC who isn’t afraid to speak her mind, but surely it’s natural to not be so arrogant in front of doctors who have years of experience on you? Like the MC is 26, I’m pretty sure all of the guys are 30+ (pretty sure Takado is 35) and have been doctors for a longer time than the MC has even been training to be a doctor. I did find myself missing the humble, kind hearted MC a bit. You really don’t have to be arrogant to be a strong willed woman, my favourite MC is the MC from Our Private Homeroom, I felt like she had a good mix of all the traits.
Can be annoying. Like there’s a time and place to be talking about the topic you’re currently spouting on about MC, and now definitely isn’t the correct time/place.
Tumblr media
I was honestly saying the same thing to myself Tak
Takado
Takado himself is not necessarily anything we haven’t seen before. He’s not hiding anything you probably haven’t already guessed. Him and the MC have frequent domestics (which 9 times out of 10 end in her being hit over the head with a file) in places they should definitely not be having domestics, which in itself provides a series of highly entertaining scenes, for not only us but also the rest of the ICU doctors. He doesn’t baby the MC, he tells her when she’s done messed up but does also show signs of kindness behind his stoney façade, especially more towards the end of the story. I also appreciated that his backstory was more than meets the eye, there’s nothing I find more boring than a predictable plot line. Generally, I found him likeable. In fact, more often than not I felt sorry for him for having to put up with the absolute garbage that drops out of the MC’s mouth. I dunno how the hell he ended up falling in love with her too, I’d run a mile if that was me. But then again I did pay £14 for him, so if he didn’t I’d be god damn pissed.
Tumblr media
He is equally (actually even more so) as intelligent as the MC, without bragging about how much he knows which was rather refreshing. I mean he does call the MC a thousand different variants of the word stupid, but every single time was justified in my eyes.
Although one thing I must say...
Tumblr media
God damn son.
Stuff to Note
One thing I need to comment is holy smokes, how long is this story? When I saw the looming 30 chapters I figured that they were probably going to be over faster than my money leaves my account on payday, but boy how wrong I was. Now this almost certainly is a money grab in order to get you to spend more hearts to get the “good choices” but despite that, I was really impressed with just how long the story took me to read. Maybe I’m just getting old, but usually on any main story I can bash it out in under 2 hours. With this, I actually had to stop myself from reading and go the hell to sleep because it was 4 in the morning. When I checked the next day to what chapter I was on, I thought I was tripping when I realised I’d only just made it halfway through the story. Voltage kudos to you. The story was the perfect length to have good plot pacing, decent character development and satisfying romance at the end.
Now granted if you’re looking for a lovey-dovey romance throughout the whole story this isn’t the route for you. The romance doesn’t really kick start until at least 3/4 of the way through this route, and even then it’s nothing that exciting. The MC struggles to understand what love even is herself, having her only boyfriends being fictional otome men (the relatability is real), she finds herself unable to register what those feelings are. It’s not until a playful bullying from the other ICU doctors and a dictionary search that she realises she’s in love.
But in general, I found Takado’s route an enjoyable read with well placed comedic timing and good focus on the the more serious side of things when it was important. So if you find yourself bored like me, maybe just give it a read. Just don’t come at me with torches and pitchforks when you’re $15 poorer.
Moments I Particularly Enjoyed
The reminder that you are in fact reading the correct story
Tumblr media
The scientific breakdown of kabedon
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The obvious sarcastic remarks, that the socially inept MC doesn’t understand
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The casual discussion of banging in the workplace
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Pros and Cons
Pros
Character Development. I feel like both the MC and Takado showed character development. The MC when she finally figured out she has to stop being so damn arrogant and realise the consequences of when she opens her mouth. And Takado, that he can’t just tell people they’re having their leg cut off and just walk off.
Length. Need I say more.
Good pacing. Story progresses, MC progresses, Romance progresses. Good job guys.
Well written. Actually laughed out loud a fair few times whilst reading this story, which I definitely wasn’t expecting. Also whoever came up with the idea of the character sprites holding up a board for comic effect is a god damn genius.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Good group dynamics. I mean it’s not KBTBB, but I enjoyed reading the interactions between all the ICU doctors. Hopefully with more releases we’ll be able to see more of their relationship with each other.
Cons
Love Choice. I mean you can read this story completely free…just you won’t know any of the back story, you won’t get any of the romantic moments and you’ll get the shit ending. But if you’re happy spending $15 for a main story then this is a pro I suppose.
Lacking in romance. Now I’m not saying there isn’t any, I personally don’t have an issue with how things progressed (I much prefer the romance to come in following stories like epilogues and sequels) but I have a feeling if you’re after something with a lot of romance running throughout it, this story won’t be for you.
Too many legs were harmed in the making of this route. People be getting their legs cut off more times than I’ve had hot dinners. Everyone thinks Takado goes around cutting people’s legs off for fun…and honestly you can’t blame them for thinking that.
Not many CGs. Remember the days when we had 6 CGs for a main story? I know I’m being picky but having 1 CG in episode 1 and the last CG in the SHE, that only leaves 2 other CGs for 28 episodes. If you’re gonna have a main story that long, surely you can spare another CG or two Voltage?
I’ve put the character sprites and the CGs below a read more button so people can avoid spoilers. So if you’re interested in what I’ve officially renamed the characters keep reading :) VVVVVVVV

Pairings: Analogical and Royality (not yet implemented)
Word count: 6000+
“So, explain to me why you wanted to go to a small town in the middle of nowhere in full peasant costume”, Joan asked the outlaw as he entered the small bar and looked up at the barkeep.
“Well, let’s just say…I have blackmail”, Virgil grunted as he slid into his seat at the bar and Joan sent a drink his way. Joan smirked and raised an eyebrow.
“Should I be asking for who or where you got it from”, the bartender asked, eyeing Virgil up before leaning back onto the empty cabinets behind them. The wood creaked under their weight, not used to having someone on them after so many years of use.
“Neither, but I’ll give you a clue if you give me back my gear”, Virgil said with a smirk, downing his drink and standing.
“Fine. That’s the best I’ll get out of you, isn’t it”, Joan asked and Virgil sent a wicked smirk their way.
“Yep. Now, clothes”, Virgil said, standing and walking to the end of the bar with a sly smile.
“Outback, you know where they are”, Joan said with a smile, stepping forward to take the glass Virgil had left, cleaning it to the best of their ability and setting it under the bar for later use.
Virgil ducked his head as he walked through the doorway to the back of the bar, smirk present as he took in his usual outfit laid out in a neat pile. His hat laid atop the bundle, sitting there so innocently you’d never expect it to belong to an outlaw, a criminal, but it did. Dark brown leather with scratch marks adorning the sun-scorched material. His prized possession he held close to his heart. A gift from a friend long gone, probably dead by now if they were lucky. Most people were lucky if they were dead…or rich. Dead or rich were the best places to be right now, but dead was definitely better than rich.
Virgil stripped of the common clothing sighing as a cool breeze blew through under the door. He shivered lightly and pulled on his shirt and pants, dropping his boots on the ground and pulling them on. He twirled his guns and slid them into the holsters, he tied his bandanna around his neck and smirked. He grabbed his hat and coat as he walked out of the door, the wood closing this a small bang making people look up in surprise. Virgil smirked and pulled on his coat with a flourish, hat sitting proudly on his head as he nodded once at Joan and walked out of the establishment. He needed money and if he wasn’t going to hit Akers town, he’d need Di to be at her best for the trek to the next closest outlaw bar.
Di neighed softly as he came out, bandana raising slightly as a hot wind blew dust and sand across the arid, smooth plains.  The sun beat down with a vengeance and Virgil chuckled lightly as Di raised her head, making small excited movements as he neared. He ran a hand over her mane and flank, keeping close to her side before he pulled her reins free and pulled himself up. Di stood and waited, steadying a little as Virgil’s weight settled onto her back. Virgil felt his smirk grow, the leather of the reins heavy in his hands.
“We’re heading for Johnsville”, Virgil said firmly, kicking the horse into a trot and moving her around with the reins. He knew his way to the small township. The path was a little worse for wear, but he’d made the journey many times and the only outlaw bar from there to Joan’s was Talyn’s, and Talyn had some mean whiskey for a reasonable price. Talyn was one of those people that would give you a drink for less than it was actually worth, but end up with more money in their pockets because of it. They were smart like that and Virgil respected Talyn’s ability and talent with their business.
Di snorted and Virgil let a frown grow on his face as the wind began to grow. If it got too bad he’d have to travel back to Joan’s and they’d be a little more hesitant to let Virgil stay due to the fact the outlaw had very little money left. He could make Di canter the entire way, but that’d wear her out quickly and Virgil didn’t need a sick or tired horse to take care of, even if it was Di. Not that he didn’t love his only true companion it was just that he didn’t want the extra anxiety and nervousness that came with having an ill companion.
So, he closed his eyes and listened to the wind blow across the flat, sun-scorched area. He listened and waited and then he kicked Di’s sides, breathed in and let the horse gallop. He didn’t want to, but he needed to get to Talyn’s and he could always take care of Di. His companion would be on the top of his list and he knew the barkeep wouldn’t keep him from tending to the tired animal.
Sand beat up behind them, wind whipping it around in small, dense clouds as Di cantered towards the bar. It was only a few miles away and that was better than traveling east to the other closest bar. Talyn’s would be much better anyway, Virgil reasoned as he and Di sped towards the small bar. He could see the hill shaped like a skull and internally smiled, knowing that he was only a hill and a trot away from the bar. Virgil tensed as Di slowed to a walk, breathing heavily as she kept on track to Talyn’s bar.
He shouldn’t have worried though. The bar came into sight quickly and Virgil hopped off Di, pulling her along so she didn’t have to carry him. The horse seemed a little grateful to be carrying less weight. They stopped at the bar and Virgil tied the horse to the porch railing, sighing lightly as she took a deep drink from the bathtub filled halfway with clear water. Virgil shook the dust off his coat, brushing the heavy leather off along with his boots before he entered the relatively quiet bar.
It reminded him of Patton’s back in Akers town with its high roof, light atmosphere and fairly clean tables. The bar was barely full, a couple of people here and there but other than that it was empty. Talyn smirked from the bar, giving the outlaw a nod as they poured him a drink.
“Didn’t think I’d see you again for another month or so. What happened?”, Talyn asked, setting the glass down as Virgil took his hat off, pushing is coat away as he took a seat. He pulled down his bandanna and grasped the glass around the rim, raising it slightly and swishing the clear, orange liquid around inside. He took a sniff of the drink and sighed a little as the smell burnt his throat. He took a drink and sat back on the stool lazily swishing the remainder of the whiskey around in its glass.
“Didn’t think I’d be back here so soon either. But I need a payday and this place is closest to Johnsville”, Virgil said with a small growl, smirking a little as his body moved forward, elbows coming to rest on the wood of the bar, shoulders slumping in relaxation. He didn’t mind this place. It never got rowdy since it was so far away. The drinks were good, service too, and Talyn was always willing to put up with his stupid stunts.
“Johnsville’s in a bit of a slump right now. I’d suggest Rockwell, there’s a surge in salt and Rockwell had a huge monopoly on the market”, Talyn said, lips twitching up into a slightly mocking smirk. They sighed contentedly and looked out of the window. “Looks like Di took a beating out there. Want to borrow James?”, Virgil gave Talyn a gracious nod, thankful for the offer.
“I’ll pay you when I get back. Shouldn’t be more than an hour or two”, Virgil said, groaning as he went to stand.
“Stay. You can pay me tomorrow. I’ll let you use a room upstairs for free, looks like you need it”, Talyn said, eyebrow-raising slightly they eyed the larger than normal bags under Virgil’s eyes.
“I’m fine, Tal. I’ll be back before you know it”, Virgil growled, standing a little before Talyn gave him a glare, making him sit down and cower a little under their gaze.
“You’re staying the night. No questions. Now, head upstairs and get some rest before I drug you”, Talyn warned and Virgil nodded, heading up the stairs quickly. He pushed the door open to the rooms upstairs and almost sighed at the welcoming sight.
Oak doors lined the hallway, a red and green carpet following the wood-panelled walls down to the end. Virgil grimaced as the wood underneath creaked, but kept on course to his usual room. He stopped in front of the oak door and twisted the brass handle, smirking lightly when the door opened and he was greeted by a dark room.
His room was the usual room. Four poster oak bed decked with white sheets, a red duvet, and a mattress. Pillows lay at the head; white and red mixing together in some cases as his vision blurred a little. He closed the door and took in the rest of the room. Window covered in red curtains, an oak cabinet on the opposite wall to the bed, empty oak bookcase on the wall beside the door and a small oak desk, with a chair, sitting innocently next to the cabinet. The room wasn’t large, but it was more lavish than sleeping in Thomas’ office in a chair.
Virgil pulled his coat off and dropped his hat onto the desk, coat falling heavily to the floor at the feet of the chair. With a sigh Virgil sat on the bed, pulled his boots off and dropped them to the floor, wincing as something below banged loudly. He flopped down onto the bed and grinned in the darkness. He’d wake up tomorrow, grab a drink and head off with Talyn’s horse. Hold up Rockwell and make some money.
His morning didn’t exactly go as planned. He woke up close to sunset and decided he’d just do the job tomorrow or the next day. So, instead of getting out and going to make some money, Virgil took the decidedly better road and pulled on his clothes, making sure his pistols were with him before he took a step outside the door and into the cold embrace of the chilled air outside his room. It wasn’t exactly what he had been expecting; sure, at night the temperatures got fairly low, but not to this standard. It was a little refreshing, but he ultimately decided he despised the sudden coldness of the long corridor.
He walked briskly to the door at the very end, making sure to steer clear of a few stray paintings and busted pieces of wood. Something must have happened last night, probably a brawl. Virgil snorted at the idea, not finding the fact he hadn’t been woken by whatever had happened, appealing in the least. It was a little more than unnerving as he usually was quite the light sleeper, having had to use that particular trick on his travels, not all outlaws took too kindly to his being around.
Virgil pulled his bandanna up a little, fiddling with the fabric as he opened the door, moving onto the platform and closing it softly behind him. He pushed a hand into one of his coat pockets and let his shoulders slump, posture drooping a little as he walked down the bar’s stairs. His boots made a little ruckus on the way down, but he was used to the loud sounds they made and didn’t make any attempt to quieten them. He jumped off the stairs as he neared the last two, casting a smirk at the floor before looking up at the barkeep. Talyn gave him an exasperated look, before shaking their head and rolling their eyes at Virgil’s entrance.
“I could have come down guns blazing, you know”, Virgil muttered as he slipped into his usual seat and grabbed the glass the barkeep had handed him.
“And you could have come down like a normal person”, Talyn said, admonishing the outlaw lightly with a small hit landing square on his bicep.
“Oh please, I’m anything but normal”, Virgil said and Talyn just rolled their eyes making their way down the bar to another waiting customer.
“Oh, I entirely agree with that”, the customer said and Virgil looked over at the brown, leather-clad figure.
“And what would you know about it?”, Virgil sneered, taking a sip of his alcohol and swishing the rest around in his glass.
“Well, since we’ve met I’ve really only thought of you as normal, but now…now I can see you’re anything but normal”, the customer said and Virgil felt an uneasy sensation creep through his bones. He knew that voice, that smirk that glowed in the dark bar like the moon in the night sky. It sent a chill down his spine, made his hair stand on end and caused his grip to loosen on the glass of whiskey, sending it bumping into the bar and spilling a little of the liquid. “I think you’ve spilled your drink”, the stranger said, standing and dropping a few coins onto the bar as he made a swift retreat out into the desert. Virgil stayed in his place still a little shell-shocked as his mind tried to find anyone he’d only met once or twice that made his body react the way it did just then.
The voice didn’t ring any bells so, in a moment of stupidity, Virgil jumped from his seat and ran to the doors, flinging them open as Talyn yelled small insults in the background. He stopped as a horse neighed and dust blew around him, he shielded his face. The outlaw growled softly and grit his teeth, forcing his eyes to part a little only to catch a glimpse of shining glass, onyx rims and a smirk with a radiance to rival the suns. Then the figure was gone and with him Virgil’s hopes for figuring out who he was. But honestly, when did Virgil ever give up…don’t answer that.
He ran inside, grabbed his hat and coat, said a quick farewell to a distressed and cross-looking Talyn and was out the door again in record time. Virgil grinned as he slipped into Talyn’s personal barn, grabbing the barkeep’s horse and causing the steed to bray as he saddled the horse. James seemed a little uneasy, but Virgil would soon fix that as he pulled the reins and jumped to position, smirking a little as the horse reared up. Virgil kicked James into a gallop and tried his best to find tracks as he stopped the steed in front of the bar. He ignored Talyn’s yells for him to return James to them as he finally found what he was looking for. Horse tracks led away from the bar, hasty and slowly being whisked away by the wind. Virgil kicked James into gear and sped off, following the tracks away from the bar in into the wilderness.
Logan chuckled a little as he dropped his hat onto Patton’s bar, his face brighter after his trip out of town. He loved home but feeling the wind in his hair, the sand landing hard against his bandanna, the sun beating down on his weary body. It was the closest thing he had in his life to freedom and he’d die before he gave it up. He patted his coat down and looked over at Patton, pulling down his bandanna and taking his hat off, dropping it onto the bar with his bandanna and a few coins.
“You look happy. What happened kiddo?”, Patton asked as he set a glass of water down by Logan’s hands, the man taking the glass and draining it of liquid quickly, smile on his face as he swished the glass to and fro, rim clutched softly in his fingertips.
“Had a good ride to Rockwell, that’s all”, Logan said, secretive smile on his face as he waited for Patton to ask more. All he got was Patton leaning in closer, putting his hands on his face and elbows resting on bar as he listened to Logan with baited breath.
“Tell me everything”, Patton said in a light, high voice, poorly mimicking one of the female groups that crowded the bar close to the night, talking of spouses and love interests and such.
“Well…you remember that man, the one who came here out of nowhere”, Logan asked and Patton gave him a small nod. Logan continued with a small smile. “He’s an outlaw. Virgil Hunterson, to be precise.” Patton’s smile waned a little, but he pushed his glasses up and nodded a little. “You knew, didn’t you?”
“I…well…I guess I may have…observed a little and picked up on some things, but don’t worry he’s not out to hurt the town. He was here on business and he probably won’t come back if he’s all the way out at Rockwell”, Patton said, trying to defend himself as Logan’s small smile turned into a frown.
“How could I not have noticed? I had an outlaw right in front of me and I didn’t realize”, Logan muttered softly, running a hand through his hair and messing with the dark strands. Patton looked around as Logan let his head drop to the bar with a soft thud.
“Hey, buddy. Come on. Stop that. I just…you didn’t know and…yeah you should have been more guarded and all of that, but he’s not that bad, really”, Patton insisted and Logan raised his head a little to give Patton a piercing, unbelieving gaze. “Not what you wanted to hear?”
“No, but thank you for the honesty. I just can’t believe I didn’t recognize him. I…I see his face in my sleep every night along with all the other outlaws I have to hunt down and yet…he evaded me, made me believe he was just another common traveler. What else did I miss? Who…who else could be part of this-this circle, this cage, this entrapping lie that I fell into like a fly in honey”, Logan said softly, breaking off as he tried hard not to let his emotions overwhelm him. He was definitely disappointed in himself, angry and self-loathing to be sure, but he didn’t want to take it out on the poor barkeeper.
“Lo, kiddo, you didn’t know and…and as for other liars…we’ll help you. Roman and I will help you with whatever you need”, Patton said softly reaching out and grasping one of Logan’s feverish hands. Logan seemed to calm at the contact, becoming a little more stable as Patton rubbed soothing circles into the flesh of his palm. “It’ll be alright, buddy. You and Ro can always count on me.”
“Good to know, Patton. Good to know”, Logan said hoarsely as he let his head drop to the bar again, breathing returning to normal as he began to reciprocate the attention his hand was receiving.
“And what might this be?”, a loud voice asked and Logan slumped down further. He hoped to anyone that was listening that Roman of all people hadn’t figured out that the Virge that had visited them was the same as Virgil Hunterson.  He didn’t feel like beating himself up even more if Roman had figured it out before he had. Patton had been bad enough, but now…now he wished and prayed and hoped that his partner was less intuitive than he let on.
“Good afternoon to you Roman”, Patton said cheerfully, a light pink dusting his cheeks as the man gave him a wink and took a seat next to his partner.
“You’re looking well Patton. May I ask…how did you get so fine?”, Roman asked, attempting to flirt and failing miserably when Patton simply laughed at the line and walked off to get Roman a glass of water. Roman sighed heavily and looked over at Logan, head still attached to the bar with self-loathing. Roman looked his partner up and down before kicking the bespectacled man lightly, boot meeting black clothed shin. Logan grunted softly and Roman raised an eyebrow as the unresponsive behavior. “And what’s with you? If you keep up like this you’ll have a permeant wood imprint in your skin.”
“No, I won’t because that is scientifically unsound”, Logan muttered and Roman smirked a little. At least Logan was able to come back with some sort of reply, even if it wasn’t the one he was looking for. He stretched and sighed softly as his joints popped, body relaxing even though his nerves were still tingling. Logan was never this out of it, so something was definitely wrong. He wanted to ask what, but he worried that Logan would clam up again like he had previous times when similar situations arose. But Roman was going to be a good friend, even if Logan killed him for it afterward.
“So…what’s bothering you?”, Roman asked, voice hesitant. He waited for a reply, face turning so he could look at Logan out of his peripheral vision. The other was asleep, cheek pressed against the bar, small snores escaping parted lips while his back rose and fell with the intake of breath. Roman chuckled at how peaceful his partner was; like an ocean finally rid of a storm. An ocean on which Roman was a fisherman in his boat, waiting it out with bated breath until the storm stopped and the sea finally calmed to a peaceful standstill.
“He’s so cute like this”, a voice whispered and Roman almost jumped, head spinning around to look at Patton, who stood, smiling, back against the wall, watching the two in silent admiration.
“Yes…yes, I suppose he is”, Roman said with a smile of his own, feeling a little hurt that Patton thought of Logan as ‘cute’.
“But…I think I prefer my spouse to be a little livelier, a little more my pace”, Patton whispered and Roman felt his lips pull from a smile into a smirk.
“Someone like…me, then?”, Roman asked sitting back on the stool so his back was against the bar, hand coming up to cup his chin as he turned his face back to give Patton a playful wink.
“Exactly”, Patton said, laughing a little as a blush dusted his cheeks in rose tones. Roman seemed to sputter a little and Patton leaned back into the cabinets as they fell into silence, Logan’s breathing the only noise between them.
“Would you…would you like to maybe…I don’t know…go up the hill for a picnic sometime?”, Roman asked and Patton nodded softly moving forward with quiet steps. Roman turned his body around and the two chuckled quietly, faces inches away. Patton pulled a stool out from under the bar on his side and sat down, smiling at Roman’s stupidly wide grin. “My place, four…no, five o’clock. That should give you enough time to close down the bar for a bit or find a replacement.”
“You’ve really thought this all out, haven’t you”, Patton whispered and Roman gave him a breathtaking smile when the smile dimmed Patton flashed one at Roman that had the other gasping for breath as he forgot for a second how to breathe.
“I…you deserve the best”, Roman breathed and Patton giggled lightly making the hunter’s stomach flip.
“Well…you do too”, Patton said and Roman moved a little closer as the words came out in a soft whisper.
“Not more than you do”, Roman said and the two locked eyes. Brown met brown and the world was lost to them. Roman’s eyes shifted from Patton’s eyes to his lips for a second as they began to close the distance between them. They were breathing each other’s exhalations in seconds and Patton could practically taste the water he had just served Roman. Patton’s eyes closed softly as Roman’s did and Roman’s hand gripped one of Patton’s softly. They’d been waiting for this moment since they first met and now it was coming into fruition.
“Roman”, a voice said and Roman jolted from his daydream, sighing softly as his fingers grazed his cold, dry lips. It felt so real and yet…yet he’d never get there.
“Yes?”, Roman asked as he turned to face Patton once more.
“Sorry, you just drifted and…sorry”, Patton apologized and Roman waved a hand.
“It wasn’t your fault. It was mine for going back to the clouds again.”
“What was it about this time?”, Patton asked and Roman blushed, face turning away from Patton so his whole body was facing the rest of the bar.
“Nothing important”, Roman said with a sad sigh, rubbing his chin with one hand and making a face as Patton’s hand hit his arm.
“It’s important if you think it is. Want to talk about it?”, Patton asked and Roman bit the inside of his cheek. If he feigned ignorance now he’d surely be doomed, but he could always lie. He hated lying to Patton, but lying was better than rejection in his opinion.
“Clouds. Clouds and flying. I had wings and I was soaring above the clouds. Beautiful, white, fluffy clouds and brown feathery wings as long as my arm. I felt so light, Patton. I would reach a hand down and touch the clouds. They were like smoke, but cold smoke that retained its shape. It was…amazing”, Roman said, breathing a small sigh as Patton’s face turned wistful. He knew Patton loved the idea of flying, heck if Roman could trade his gun and right arm for wings for the bartender he would, but the world didn’t work like that, so he had to put up with this. With telling the man lies and stories.
He had always had a knack for storytelling and it was often his weapon of choice against the nightmares that he conjured up for himself. That was the drawback though, an over creative mind could come up with good and bad, and sometimes the bad outweighed the good.
Someone came in through the door and took a seat on Logan’s side near the end of the bar. Black clothing adorning their form as they waited for Patton. They seemed content to just sit there until the bartender came around and for that Roman was thankful.
“I have a customer waiting. When I get back could you tell me more?”, Patton asked the customer yelled for the bartender to grab them a drink. Patton gabbed a glass, called out he was coming and set off, giving Roman an apologetic smile as the hunter turned around. Roman lifted his lips into a fake smile, giving Patton’s back a little salute as the man rushed away down to the other customer.
“And I thought my love life was bad”, a voice said, making Roman jump a little before realizing who had spoken. Logan lifted his head and gave Roman a sleepy smile, eyes drooping a little from behind his glasses.
“Shut up”, Roman muttered, with a small smirk, punching Logan’s arm softly as the other’s eyes closed, a small wry smile on his lips. Logan propped his head up with one hand giving Roman a knowing smirk as the other hunter craned his head to look at Patton around Logan. Logan glanced behind him, eyes still lazily opening and closing as he looked from Patton’s serving form to Roman’s lovesick one. He opened his mouth and in the drunkest, sleepy voice Roman had ever heard his friend use said.
“You, my friend, need to get laid.”
Roman sputtered, blushed and looked at Logan with wide eyes. His mouth swung open and he gaped at the sleepy bespectacled hunter with a look of shock and horror. The feelings quickly faded and were replaced with curiosity and a twinge of concern.
“Where did you hear that? Do you even know what that means?”, Roman asked, voice quick and worried as his eyes glanced over his friend, hand coming to rest near the other hunter’s elbow.
“Heard it at an outlaw bar. Don’t know what it means, but it’s supposed to be helpful”, Logan said, face slipping a little off his hand a small, lopsided, tired smile adorning his face. He quickly pushed his face back into his hand and tried hard to look as awake as possible, failing miserably as he let out a small yawn that was undeniably adorable to even Roman.
“Don’t ever say that again”, Roman muttered in the way a mother would over their child saying a swear and not understanding what they had said, which was indeed what had happened.
“What? What’d I say?”, Logan asked and Roman shushed him gently making the man frown before he sighed and put his head on the bar again. “You’re not going to tell me what it means, are you?”
“No, and if anyone ever does I’ll shoot them full of holes”, Roman grunted as he took a casual sip from his glass, tilting his head back, not noticing how Patton looked over and gave the hunter a glance over.
“What’s so bad about getting laid?”, Logan asked and Roman rolled his eyes.
“Stop saying that”, Roman growled.
“Saying what?”
“Stop saying things about getting laid. It’s something you shouldn’t know about…at least not yet.”
“Roman”, Logan began, sitting up straighter and giving the hunter a bored, unimpressed look that only he could muster in such a tired state. “I’m twenty-eight. Whatever it is you’re hiding from me that I will ‘find out eventually’ I probably should have found out a long time ago. You can’t defend me or protect me forever, princey.”
“Oh, on the contrary. I will make sure you never find out what that means…until you’re married of course or dead. I might just wait until you die and then whisper it to your corpse”, Roman said with a chuckle making the hunter at his side pout and frown.
“That’s not fair Roman”, Logan said petulantly as he bit the inside of his cheek.
“I think it’s quite fair”, Roman said, taking another sip as Logan turned his head away from his friend and closed his eyes, from still firmly planted on his face.
“What’s not fair?”, Patton asked, taking a few more steps towards his friends as he cleaned out a glass, sitting it in front of Logan who began to sleepily play with its rim. Patton chuckled a little and sat down on the bar stool on his side, looking between the two hunters as someone came in through the door. The four people in the bar didn’t look up as a man entered, panting, taking a seat on the other side of the three. He took out a small hip flask and draining the thing dry before slouching in his seat.
“Nothing”, Roman replied but groaned as Logan also replied, his words slightly slurred.
“He won’t tell me what getting laid means”, Logan said and the results from the surrounding bar members were immediate. Patton’s eyes widened while Roman quickly tried to scold him, the man at the end chocking a little and the other customer to Logan’s far left letting out a chuckle before their head dropped onto the bar and they fell asleep. Patton looked from Logan to the customer, then to the man, then to Roman before giving Roman a disbelieving look that said, ‘Are you kidding me? He doesn’t know what that means? Have you not even explained to him what that means? Why haven’t you told him?’. To which Roman gave him a look that said, ‘Please don’t tell him. I would die of embarrassment if he knew the meaning. He’d tease me all the way to Sunday if he knew I was squeamish about that topic.’
“Logan, honey”, Patton said gently, putting a hand on Logan’s as the hunter’s head made contact with the bar once more, one hand under his head, the other playing with the glass while Patton’s hand sat on top of it. “We don’t want to…scar you but…”
“For heaven’s sake, Pat. I’m twenty-eight for crying out loud. What does it mean?”, Logan asked and Patton flushed a little at the forcefulness of Logan’s question.
“W-well…uh…you make a good point”, Patton said as his eyes darted to Roman, pleading for an escape.
“Well, you see Logan…uh…when a couple of people love each other very much”, Roman began, cut off by laughing to his right from the man with the hip flask. Roman flushed, embarrassed and angry that the man had interrupted.
“Ro, I know what you’re talking about. What does falling in love have to do with getting laid?”, Logan asked and the man to Roman’s right laughed harder, clasping his stomach as he almost fell back with howls of laughter.
“Do you want to explain it?”, Roman bit out angrily, looking at the man with a glare while the man steadied himself with the bar.
“No…no…keep going”, the man said breathlessly, trying to stifle his laughter from behind his hand.
“Argh, this is getting me nowhere. I’m going back to sleep”, Logan muttered, falling asleep promptly after the soft declaration. Roman sighed heavily and looked up at Patton who also sighed. The two exchanged a look of relief and nodded to one another before Roman stood, pushed his glass to Patton and pulled Logan back, gripping the man gently under his arms as he fell back off the stool and to the floor. Roman caught him and pulled him up, situating himself in front of the other hunter so as to give him a piggy-back up the hill.
“You sure you can carry him all that way?”, Patton asked, gesturing with his head to the hill out the window.
“If I can tame a wild horse, go two days without water, sit for fourteen hours on a horse for five days straight, and shoot a bullet a bullseye in target fifteen feet away on zero hours sleep after riding for two days straight, I can carry Logan back to his house and bed no problem”, Roman said, seemingly happier after listing off his accomplishments.
“Okay, if you say so Mr. Hotshot”, Patton said jokingly, a small smile on his face. There was silence in the bar apart from everyone’s breathing and the occasional hoot from an owl outside.
“I’ll stay safe”, Roman said to the unspoken question giving Patton a small, reassuring smile as he adjusted his grip on Logan’s thighs and turned to walk out of the bar.
“Okay”, Patton said, voice barely above a whisper as he looked down at the bar, picking at it with his nails. The man at the end of the bar stood and walked out after Roman, keeping the hunter within sight as he hopped on his horse and started after the two at a walking pace.
Roman could hear the horse following him and he reached for his gun around Logan’s leg, mentally cursing the fact he’d never risk dropping Logan to shoot someone. He narrowed his eyes and turned around, gun drawn and trigger finger ready. His coat fluttered, settling as his gaze landed on the man on horseback. The man put his hands up a ghost of a smile on his face.
“Easy. I just thought you’d be better off delivering your princess on horseback. It’d be easier if he were up here with me”, the man said and Roman kept his eyes narrowed, but he lowered his gun and gave the man a look over. Brown, leather gear covered him from head to toe apart from his shirt and pants. There were to gun holsters on him along with the shining flask. The bandanna around his neck screamed outlaw, but who was Roman to judge. With a sigh, Roman lowered his firearm and walked to the horse and rider.
“Alright”, Roman said, conceding defeat and allowing the man to take hold of Logan, pulling the hunter’s unconscious body onto his horse. “But if you try anything I won’t even think of shooting you”, Roman spat out, firearm once again drawn as he cracked his neck, feeling a little freer now he no longer had an adult male pressing down on his back. The other male nodded, gently kicking his horse into a walk while Roman watched him, walking alongside the horse and towards the Lilac property.
The walk was silent save for the chirping of crickets and the hoots of owls from the desert. The horse’s steps almost silent, the large creature moving slowly and softly as if it knew it had a slumbering passenger that its rider wanted to keep asleep. They reached the Lilac property and Roman helped the man lift Logan down from the horse. Roman muttered a thank you as he walked through the gate, spending minutes in the house before he came back out, shutting both door and gate behind him. He looked up at the other male, eyes drifting from Logan’s house to Thomas’.
“Something wrong?”, Roman asked, giving the man a wary look. The man shook his head, turning his horse around and giving Roman a smirk.
“Nothing you should be concerned about.”
“Thank you”, Roman said as the man began to move away, stopping his horse and looking back with a little surprise.
“Sorry?”, the man asked.
“I said, thank you. You…you really helped us out back there and I appreciate your generosity”, Roman said, tripping over his words. The rider opened his mouth a little sighing as he moved his tongue from his top left molars to his top right molars. Closing his eyes and letting his face drop to look at the saddle before looking back up, eyes still tightly shut.
“Thank you…for trusting me”, the man said and Roman nodded curtly before beginning the trek back to his own house. The other man scratched his chin softly with one gloved hand before setting off into the night. Who knows if they’d ever meet again.

(We open with camera pulling back to the HOLLYWOOD sign encumbered buy the night sky and bathed in light. In the background, we hear CRY TOUGH by Poison as we see the aspects of Los Angeles, California. People walking the streets of Sunset Blvd, Walk of Fame. In the crowd, Kali wades through the plethora of people. She saunders down the streets, contemplating her life after losing her friends to Special Agent Ivan Perdovski and the armed forces of Mother Russia. In her melancholy, she bumps into a passing yuppie on his portable phone.)
YUPPIE: Hey, watch where you’re walking, ya little brat.
KALI: Twat.
(As she continues to walk, she makes her way down Sunset Blvd when one of a bunch of rocker kids snatch a purse from one of the hookers down the way.)
(ROCKERS WHOOPING)
HOOKER 1: HEY, ASSHOLE!! MY MONEY’S IN THERE!!!
HOOKER 2: MOTHERFUCKER!!!
(As the purse snatcher makes his way toward Kali, she focuses on him. He looks back for a second, but as he turns back forward, a decrepit leper pops up in front of him. He screams and falls back, throwing up the purse. The purse falls into the waiting hand of Kali. The rocker kid recovers and sees Kali with his “payday”, he gets up and pursues her.)
ROCKER KID: Hey, bitch. That’s my payday you’re walking away with. Hey, I’m fuckin’ talkin’ to you, you fuckin’ bitch!!
(The rocker kid grabs Kali’s right shoulder. She turns to him with a face like that of a twisted corpse; rotting flesh, glazed over eyes, blood and pus oozing out of every orifice and a discounted jaw with jagged teeth. The rocker kid screams at the top of his lungs and falls back down. Kali turns away with her normal face. She then tosses the purse to the hooker.)
HOOKER 1: Thanks, honey.
(Kali tosses her a wink then goes about her business. She continue her wayward walk, then finds herself down the alleys of Little Tokyo, scavenging for food. She then smells the aroma of Japanese cooking emanating from a nearby restaurant. She peers through an open window and sees rice, vegetables, fish and chicken cooked up all together. She waits for the cooks to leave the kitchen, then enters through the window. She looks around, wondering where to start. She grabs a nearby bowl, scoops up a cup of rice, bits of broccoli and chicken, spreads it with soy sauce, and scarfs it down. Suddenly, a young Japanese man bursts into the kitchen.)
Y.J.M.: (Japanese) Thief!! What do you think you’re doing?
(The Japanese man makes for Kali, but Kali quickly evades. He then proceeds to attack her, but with her premonition abilities, she manages to evade his attacks and they both exchange blow for blow. Even when he came close at times, she even grabs some food to spit at him with such a retaliatory force. At the end, he gets her in an armbar. But with her abilities, Kali makes him see a King Cobra slither from her sleeve to his arm. He leaps back in fear, screaming at the sight of Kali’s illusion. Until…)
VOICE: (Japanese) Enough!!
(Kali, her assailant and the kitchen crew are stopped by the maitre’d. He is a middle-aged gentleman, short black hair slicked back, solemn eyes, wearing a traditional black and white suit.)
Y.J.M.: (Japanese) Father, I found this interloper in the kitchen, eating our food.
MAITRE’D: (English) English, Kyoji. Let us at least show some manners to this girl. She’s obviously hungry.
KYOJI: (English): Father, be reasonable. She is a cur, an invalid of the streets, like the rest of the trash out there.
KALI: You do realize I’m right here, right?
MAITRE’D: Clearly, she does not fight like one. Do you have a name, girl?
KALI: Kali, sir.
MAITRE’D: I am Koji Yashida, and this is my restaurant THE GOLDEN KOI. Where are you from, Kali-san?
KALI: Born in a lab, raised in all over, Pittsburgh, Chicago. Last known address, Milwaukee.
KOJI: Ah, so you are an outcast. Then nobody will care if you die here.
(Kitchen staff roll up their sleeves, revealing Yakuza tattoos. They grab kitchen knives, guns and ninja weapons.)
Unless, you give me a very good reason why I should let you live.
(Kali assesses the situation around her, then proceeds to make the Yakuza see them holding bloody human organs. They drop their “organs” in digest and fear. Koji and Kyoji, however, see a tall, female Ju-on wearing a plain, white dress drenched in blood. They embrace each other in bone-chilling fear, then proceed to close their eyes in fear as the Ju-on closes in, making a droning croaking sound. Then, silence. They slowly open their eyes, and see Kali standing over them, wiping the blood dripping from her left nostril. The Yakuza stand back in silence and fear.)
KALI: Now that I have your attention. I’m the last of my crew, running from enemies, struggling to survive one day after another, trying to find my purpose. In a nutshell,…
(Sniffles)
I have no where else to go.
(Koji and Kyoji later meet up in the upstairs office to decide Kali’s fate.)
KYOJI: (Japanese) Father, you’re not seriously considering taking her in.
KOJI: (Japanese) I am beginning to, yes. You’ve seen what she can do. She can make us see things, things that we fear most, what our enemies fear most.
KYOJI: (Japanese) So, you mean to recruit her into the Yakuza.
KOJI: (Japanese) Yes. We will send her to Yuki and her ninja crew to be initiated and trained.
(Outside the office, Kali is enjoying herself an assortment of sushi. Suddenly, the office door opens with Koji approaching her.)
KOJI: (English) We shall let you stay. In the morning, my associate will meet with you and take you to our ninja camp.
(Kali’s eyes widen with interest.)
There, your training shall proceed.
(The next morning, Kali awakes from her make-shift bed in one of the cubicles in the restaurant. She is then met a 18 year old Japanese girl standing before her. She’s wearing a Duran Duran RIO t-shirt with black leather pants and red Converse sneakers draped over a black business coat with a glass pink lotus pin on her right lapel. Her hair sports a Bob style with Auburn highlights.)
KALI: (yawning) So, you must be the associate.
GIRL: You are correct, Kali-san, is it?
(Kali nods in affirmation)
Good, I am Yuki, my father owns this restaurant.
KALI: Daughter?
YUKI: Correct again, I bring breakfast, eat up then you come with me.
(After breakfast, Yuki boards Kali into her red Ferrari down the Little Tokyo strip. They reach their destination, A 2 story gentlemen’s club by the name of THE PINK LOTUS.)
KALI: This, is the ninja camp?
YUKI: Well, are you coming?
(Kali proceeds to follow Yuki inside the club. Inside the pink atmosphere, spotlights shine on a black runway lined up with chairs, with a boxed end with a gold stripper pole, the stage is decorated with a giant pink lotus flower. There are two bars, one on each side of the runway; one for alcoholic consumption, and the other is the DJ booth. The strippers consist of not just Japanese women, but women of black, white, and Spanish minorities; all toned and in shape, sporting sweats and gymwear.)
So, what do you think?
KALI: I think there is some kind of mistake. Your dad told me I’d be taken to some ninja camp,…
(The strippers around her giggle at her assumption.)
…and from what I see is a bloody strip joint. Not that I have against what a woman does to get attention, but I was serious when I told your father about wanting…
(As Kali was making her statement, Yuki unexpectedly threw a hidden shuriken at her. Fortunately for Kali, her precognitive senses saw it coming and she ducked the shuriken, having it land on a painting of Kabuki woman, right at the neck. Yuki was surprised at her reflex, but Kali wasn’t gonna let that fly.)
…purpose.
(Kali then proceeded to conjure an illusion of the walls bleeding blood, causing the bartender, and the strippers to huddle up on the runway. Yuki, on the other hand, remains perfectly calm and still as the blood formed around her feet. Kali notices that Yuki expected her using her abilities.)
YUKI: Hmm, father told me about your “gifts”. I believe you’ll make an excellent addition to our clan. Follow me upstairs, please.
(Kali follows Yuki to the second floor, which appears to be living quarters comprised of footons and assorted wardrobe.)
The club is a front for our splinter faction of my father’s Yakuza clan, the Pink Lotus Ninja clan. Our group consists of not only my fellow countrywomen, but women of other nationalities to spread our influence across the planet.
KALI: Interesting.
(The other girls gather around Kali and Yuki. The girls stick their right hands showcasing a lotus brand in their palms. Yuki takes a Japanese Rising Sun Zippo Lighter and takes it to her lotus ring on her right middle finger.)
YUKI: The lotus brand is an eternal symbol of respect and loyalty, two aspects that are sacred in our organization. To receive this is to be a part of something greater than yourself.
(Yuki then extends her right hand, showcasing her brand in her palm. She gestures her fingers to Kali, asking for her right hand. Kali begins to jet it out.)
Know this, once you take this step, there is no turning back from this. You will be a part of this crew forever until the day you leave this world. Do you understand?
KALI: I do.
(Yuki takes Kali’s right hand and drives the scalding lotus ring into Kali’s palm. As the brand seers into her skin, Kali slightly winces as Yuki is somewhat surprised that Kali is no stranger to pain. Yuki then removes the ring from Kali’s hand, Kali looks down at the lotus brand seered into her hand, then looks up to Yuki.)
YUKI: Welcome to the Pink Lotus Ninja clan, sister.
(As THE WARRIOR by Scandal plays in the background, we cut to a vacant warehouse outside Los Angeles. The inside consists of ninja recruits navigating an archaic obstacle course, training in several combat circles and a weapons rack which consists of shurikens, kunais, bows and quiver of arrows, nunchakus, sais and of course katana swords. Throughout the fall and winter, Yuki puts Kali through a rigorous training regiment of common practices and traditions, physical training, stealth training, target practice, meditation cycles, theatricality and deception tutorial, hand-to-hand combat and swordplay. As Kali starts off slow, she spends her spare time getting a tribute tattoo from one of the girls, which consists of the 6 masks worn by herself, her friends and Eleven/Jane. As the Eleven/Jane’s mask is being drawn, she volunteers in dancing in the club, with Koji, Kyoji and Yuki watching in fascination. As Dottie’s mask is drawn, she learns Japanese from Yuki. As Mickie’s mask is drawn, she decides to teach herself the Russian language with a Russian Translation Book, just in case. As Axel’s mask is drawn, she’s seen eating and gossiping with the rest of the girls. As Funshine’s mask is drawn, her ninjutsu skills steadily improve which concludes with a sword duel between her and Yuki. Both blades clash, swear starts pouring; in the end, Kali ends up getting the upper hand, which ends with a deflection and a blade at the neck. The girls witness in awe as Kali and Yuki bow to each other, up top the balconies, Koji looks on with pride. With that, Kali’s mask is drawn on. April 1985, we cut to a local bathhouse in Little Tokyo, Kali is in a wide hot bath all alone with her bathrobe beside her on the edge of the bath. She looks at her tribute tattoo along her right forearm, she draws her left index finger down from her mask near her elbow joint to El/Jane’s mask near her wrist. She tilts her head in melancholy, stroking it gently, projecting a rainbow winged butterfly in her right hand. Her eyes suddenly move to the left, her arms lower underwater, she suddenly jerks to the left, shuriken in her left hand, ready for anything. Instead, Yuki standing in a bathrobe of her own, surprised and impressed by Kali’s reaction.)
YUKI: (Japanese) Your skill is progressing faster than anticipated, Kali-san.
(Yuki walks toward her bath.)
Are shurikens the only weapons you brought with you to your bath?
KALI: (Japanese) My mind is the ultimate weapon I carry.
YUKI: (Japanese) That it is, Kali-san. Do you mind if I join you?
KALI: (Japanese) By all means, headmistress.
YUKI: (Japanese, looks down than to her) Do you mind?
(Kali then proceeds to close her eyes, as Yuki disrobes. Every bit of her naked, slim body slips into the hot bath, wetting her hair in the process, and letting off a relieving sigh.)
Open.
(Kali opens her eyes.)
I see Emiko has done excellent work on your tattoo. If you don’t mind my asking, may I inquire what it represents to you?
KALI: (Japanese) Each mask represents me and my former crew.
(Kali runs her finger from her mask to El/Jane’s mask.)
There’s me. Funshine. Axel. Mickie. Dottie. And this… this is Jane. My… (sniffle) my sister. All of them dead, except her.
(Yuki swims over to Kali to comfort her.)
YUKI: (Japanese) What was she like?
KALI: (Japanese) We were born and grew up in the same government lab together. Whereas I project visions, Jane could move things with her mind. When she came looking for me in Chicago, I was so grateful. I felt complete again. I started training to better use her powers through anger. Then I took her with me on my crusade of vengeance against the people who made us.
YUKI: What happened to her?
KALI: The police bum-rushed our hideout.
(We shown of a flashback of Kali and El/Jane’s last moment together.)
Instead of running away with us, Jane took it upon herself to leave, she said that her friends were in danger. I thought because we were the same, she’d understand what I wanted for us a family. But wherever her friends and her policeman protector were, she wanted to be there.
YUKI: (Japanese) I’m sure she had her reasons. You’ve obviously found yours.
KALI: (Japanese) Before Funshine died to give me time to escape here, he told me that one day, Jane and I would one day need each other. Now, after all this, I’m not sure I wanna go to her.
YUKI: (Japanese) Only you can decide when to go to her. It doesn’t have to be now, but someday.
(The girls share a hug.)
KALI: (Japanese) You didn’t come all the way down for a bath and a conversation?
YUKI: (Japanese, chuckles) Indeed, you are perceptive, Kali-san. We are called on a mission in the following months, apparently Father and Kyoji have set up a business meeting with a foreign party at the restaurant. Consider this your initiation, we certainly hope you are ready.
KALI: (Japanese) You can count on me, headmistress.
YUKI: (Japanese) Good.
(Yuki leaps out of the bath, puts on her robe, and leaves the bathhouse.)
KALI: (Japanese) This foreign party, where are they from?
YUKI: (Japanese) Russia.
(A look of great concern befalls Kali’s face as Yuki leaves, could Ivan Perdovski and the Russians have found her after all this time? June 28, 1985. The Pink Lotus Ninja clan hide in the night upon rooftops, surrounding the THE GOLDEN KOI as they wait for the meeting to go down. Each of the ninjas are clad in black, armed with a katana along with an assortment of ninja weapons. They wear black long sleeve gi tops with pink linings and a black hood. Their faces covered with a sock masks, their eyes surrounded in black smudge. Black fingerless gloves encumbers their hands. Their legs covered with nylon leggings with garderbelts carrying either shurikens and kunais. Their feet bear black socks and black sneakers, but for Kali, she preferred purple Converses.)
YUKI: (Japanese) Tonight is your night, Kali-san.
KALI: (Japanese) I understand.
(Yuki looks down to Kali’s footwear.)
YUKI: (Japanese) Purples Converses? A ninja is known for discretion.
KALI: (Japanese)Being I’m the special case here, my powers make me discreet.
YUKI: (Japanese) For your sake, Kali-san, I hope so.
(Kali then spots a black Mercedes-Benz pulling up to the restaurant.)
KALI: (Japanese, points to car) Black Benzo pulling up.
(Yuki grabs a near CB communicator to call his father.)
YUKI: (Japanese) Father, they’re here.
KOJI: (Japanese) Understood. Hold your positions until further notice. I’ll keep the channel open.
YUKI: (Japanese) Understood, be careful.
(Yuki signals her group to hold their positions. A figure steps out of the backseat of the car, it is Special Agent Ivan Perdovski. He’s been on the search for Kali since the events of Milwaukee, now he sports a big burn scar along the left side of his face from Funshine’s claymore surprise. A look of dread overtakes Kali’s face.)
YUKI: (Japanese) You alright, Kali-san?
KALI: (Japanese) Fine, Yuki, just fine.
(Perdovski walks into the restaurant, ride up to the receptionist.)
IVAN: Perdovski, party for three.
(Receptionist motions them to the office upstairs. Perdovski walks up the stairs to the Koji’s office, where Koji and Kyoji await him.)
KOJI: Perdovski-sama, on behalf of my family, I bid you welcome.
IVAN: Spasibo, comrade Yashida, thank you.
KOJI: Drink?
IVAN: Stolichnaya, if you can manage.
(Koji preps two glasses with ice. Fills one with Suntory whiskey, the other with Stolichnaya vodka. Koji hands him his drink.)
Spasibo, or in your case, arigato.
KOJI: (chuckles) Of course. So, to what do I own the honor of this visit?
IVAN: Perhaps you can help with this problem I have. I’ve been looking for a certain individual for the past 6 months. A 15 year old girl, British Hindu descent , with violent tendencies and the ability to project visions with her mind.
(Yuki looks to Kali with content, while Kali focuses on the conversation in the restaurant.)
KOJI: (sips his drink) This is the first I’ve heard of this.
IVAN: (sips his drink) I’ve been following her trail since Pittsburgh, to Chicago then to Milwaukee. She has caused the deaths of several of my fellow comrades. Ever since then, I’ve been combing the entire country for her. After speaking to several eyewitnesses in Los Angeles, I was hoping you be the latter.
(Yuki sees an army truck, a platoon of Spetnaz commandos disembark and surround the restaurant. Then draws her blade to Kali’s throat, demanding answers.)
YUKI: (Japanese) If you have something to say, Kali-san, say it right now.
KALI: (Japanese) They’re not after you, they’re after me. They killed my friends, all just so they can use me for my gifts. If you want to save your family, I’m your only hope.
KOJI: (sips his drink) I don’t know what you plan to gain from this meeting, but I can assure there has been no sign of this girl here or in Little Tokyo for that matter. You can ask everyone that works for me, even in my own family, they practically keeps to themselves.
IVAN: (chuckles, sips his drink) That’s funny, because your son told me that she is working for you a week before the meeting was established.
(Koji turns to Kyoji with a stern look on his face.)
KOJI: (Japanese) Kyoji, what have you done? WHAT HAVE YOU DONE!?!
KYOJI: (Japanese) I told you it was a mistake keeping her here. He overheard me talking to the guys a week ago. He swore that he would spare us, as long as we give him the girl.
KOJI: (Japanese) You have put us all in danger, Kyoji-san!!
KYOJI: (Japanese) You’re the one who damned us all by bringing this psycho bitch…
(Irritated by this family squabble, Ivan pulls out his Marakov pistol and puts a round into Kyoji’s head.)
KOJI: (Japanese) KYOJI!!!!!
(Yuki is shaken with devastation at the lost of her brother, Kali is lit up with focused anger. Inside the restaurant, the patrons vacate their tables in panic and leave. Ivan notices the commotion downstairs, then grabs his walkie-talkie.)
IVAN: (Russian) Let the civilians go.
(Ivan then downs his drink, as Koji looks in distraught at the headshot corpse of his dead son.)
(English) My sincere apologies, comrade. But your son has served his purpose for Mother Russia. Unless you wish to join him, tell me where the girl is.
KOJI: You will die for this dishonor.
IVAN: Spare me your bullshit. I have a squad of Spetnaz commandos surrounding your establishment. I will get my answers, even if I have to squeeze it out of your comrades.
(Ivan grabs his walkie-talkie.)
(Russian) Spetnaz, move in and incarcerate.
(Ivan van hears screams, gunshots and metal slicing.)
Spetnaz, report. Respond.
(Kali picks up a walkie-talkie off one of the commandos.)
ANSWER ME!!!
KALI: (Russian) Your boys are dead, asshole, and you’re next.
IVAN: (Russian) WHO ARE YOU?
KALI: (Russian) The Goddess of Death.
(Ivan looks to the walkie-talkie in fear.)
KOJI: You afraid, comrade? You should be.
(Ivan points his gun to Koji.)
IVAN: WHERE IN THE FUCK IS SHE!?!
(The lights flicker then go out, the lights become black lights. Ivan looks around the office, Koji looks at him calmly, knowing Kali’s wonders are in action. Ivan, on the other hand, begins to see a figure emerge from behind Koji’s chair. The figure appears to be Funshine, his body half-burned and his mask his half-melted. Ivan looks in horror, not believing what he’s seeing. He bursts out of the office, and runs into Axel with his mask on, but has an entry and exit wound on opposite sides of his head, blood pour from the wounds. Ivan proceeds downstairs to find the front door boarded up. He turns around to find two undead girls by the stairs. One of them is Dottie with her mask on, with her throat slit open, blood pouring from her wound. The other is Mickie, also with her mask on, with a bullet wound wide in the middle of the forehead, also with blood dripping from the wound. Ivan panics looking everywhere, Axel and Funshine join in as the specters close in, Ivan readies his gun eager to shoot.)
IVAN: (Russian) You’re dead. I FUCKING KILLED ALL OF YOU!! YOU’RE ALL FUCKING DEAD!!!
KALI: (Russian, behind his back) So are you, comrade.
(Ivan’s eyes look to the left. Suddenly, both of his Achilles tendons are sliced off, Ivan gasps in pain as he falls to his knees. He tries to raise his gun while steadying himself with his left hand. Until, his gun hand gets lopped off, flying a few feet away from him, again he gasps in pain. He crawls slowly toward his gun, as soon as he nears it, his left hand is stabbed to the floor with a katana, cutting edge towards him so he cut his way out. Ivan lets out a painful scream that can be heard throughout the restaurant. He looks up to see a masked Kali standing before him. She kneels down for eye-to-eye level.)
(Russian) So tell me, how does it feel to be on the other side of the spectrum,…
(She then removes her mask, revealing her face, along with a bloody nose, pass her lips.)
…Ivan.
(She wipes the blood off under the nose with her left thumb, licking the rest of it off with her tongue. As she sucks the excess blood off her thumb, Ivan lets off a weak chuckle.)
IVAN: (chuckles, Russian) Ah, the Goddess of Death herself. I see you’ve been busy these past 6 months. You hide within the bowels of the Yakuza, learn their ways, you even learn my native tongue in the process. Needless to say, I can’t help but be proud of you.
(As Ivan continues to chuckle. Koji hands her the bottle of vodka, then Kali pours the vodka down the blade of the katana, making the wound burn. Ivan screams as the wound burns, Kali then takes the bottle and takes a swig of vodka, she lets out a heavy sigh.)
KALI: (Russian) Whoo. It’s better with ice, don’t you agree?
IVAN: Da!!
(Kali then throws the bottle aside, shattering on impact.)
KALI: (English) Now, as much as I love to continue this coffee session here, there are some questions that I never got to ask you back in Milwaukee. For instance, why are you after me, specifically? Are you like those Yank government fuckers who want to use me as a weapon?
(Ivan spits at Kali’s feet in defiance.)
IVAN: (Russian) Like we ever wanted you to begin with. Besides, you kids today can never see the bigger picture. In short…
(Ivan leans forward.)
(English) FUCK… YOU!!
(Kali proceeds to laughing her head off at Ivan’s petty courage.)
KALI: You know, I was praying you’d say that, because I got something special planned for you.
(Japanese) Yuki-san, can you bring me a Ginzu knife, please?
(Yuki walks to the kitchen to grab a Ginzu knife.)
And do make sure it’s sharpened.
(Ivan looks toward Yuki, then look back to Kali.)
Are you aware of the Yakuza method of Yubitsume, or “finger shortening” to the layman. Interesting, this practice. The way it goes, should a member commit an offense against his clan, he is subjected to lop off a section of his finger then present to your leader, starting with your pinkie finger on your left land. Anymore offenses from there on in, said individual proceeds to lop off the rest of the finger, then proceed to the next finger to the right.
(Yuki walks to Kali, sharpening the Ginzu knife with a sharpening rod.)
But in your case, I’m going to lop off a whole finger for each of my mates you’ve slain in Milwaukee. You a patriot, Ivan?
(Ivan nods in affirmation.)
As am I. But since you’re from Russia, and I’m British, I thought we can sing an American classic, in light of the upcoming 4th of July. America The Beautiful, you know that one, right?
(Ivan again nods in affirmation.)
Let’s sing together, shall we?
(Kali readies the knife on Ivan’s left pinkie finger, as she prepares to sing.)
Oh beautiful for spacious skies…
(Kali lops off the pinkie, Ivan grunts in pain, a flashback of Mickie’s death is shown.)
For amber waves of grain…
(Kali lops off the ringer, Ivan’s painful grunt intensifies, a flashback of Dottie’s death is shown.)
Come along, Ivan. I know you know the words, now SING!
IVAN: (quivering) For purple mountain majesty…
(Kali proceeds to sever off the middle finger, Ivan yelps in pain, a flashback of Axel’s death is shown.)
KALI: Come on.
IVAN: Above the fruited plain…
(Ivan’s index finger is then lopped off, Ivan then screams, a flashback of Funshine’s death is shown. Ivan then begins to cry uncontrollably, snot dripping from his nose, knowing he’s about to die a grisly death.)
Alright, ALRIGHT!!
(Kali then takes the knife to Ivan’s chin, letting him know she means business.)
KALI: I’m all ears.
IVAN: (deep sigh) Two years ago, we’ve learn that the Americans have found a new way to gather intelligence on us. Psychic Warfare, they called it. In the late 60s, they used mind-expanding drugs on women to endow them with psychic powers, so that their children will inherit those powers, to become the new weapons of the Cold War.
(Kali remembers the early memories of herself and El/Jane.)
They reveled in their early success, that is until, they’ve made an unknown discovery. A parallel dimension, a shadowy reflection of our world, populated by monsters.
(Flashbacks of the Demogorgon, Demo-Dogs and the Mind Flayer.)
It unfortunately became their downfall. A year later, we tried to open that very same door on our native soil. But instead of using psychically endowed children, we used the miracle of technology of Mother Russia to tear open a door into that dimension. But alas, there were setbacks.
(Flashbacks of the first attempt to open the door to the Upside Down.)
The dimensional wall on our side of the planet was too strong to penetrate. Fortunately for us, the dimensional wall on the American side of the planet was still weak, still healing from the wound it sustained from the Americans’ folly. So, we moved our resources to America, established our secret headquarters, hid it in plain sight in the guise of a bazaar, or as you say it, a “mall”.
KALI: Right. So where in this country is this secret headquarters?
IVAN: (laughs weakly) It doesn’t matter, child. Things are set in motion in which you cannot stop.
(Kali leans forward with the sword, coming to an inch or two to Ivan’s face.)
KALI: Where… in America… is your secret… headquarters?
IVAN: (sigh) If I tell you, you will make it quick?
KALI: (smiles) You have my word.
IVAN: H-Hawkins. Hawkins, Indiana. That is truth, I swear.
(Kali takes the knife off Ivan’s chin. She then continues to sing, increasing in volume.)
America, America, God shed his grace of THEE…
(Ivan breathes steadily, as her volume increases.)
AND CROWN THY GOOD WITH BROTHERHOOD TO SEA TO SHINY SEA!!!!
(Kali then removes her sword from the ground, spins with a horizontal stroke that takes Ivan’s head right off. Sending it flying into the air, flipping backwards. As it descends, Kali flicks the residual blood off her sword, sheathes it, spins back around to catch the head. She then stands, turns 180°, walks to Koji, lowers to her knees and presents Ivan’s severed head to his feet as she bows her head. Koji extends his hand, touching thee top of her head in gratitude.)
KOJI: (Japanese) Well done, my child. Men, dispose of the bodies
(Later that night, a trail of clothes and weapons lead to Kali laying in a well-deserved hot bath in the dark with nothing but the moon and the stars to be her light. Her ears completely submerged in the water to drown out the noise. Her eyes close only for a moment, wondering what El/Jane is doing at this very moment. Her eyes open suddenly to darkness. She found herself into The Void, she jolts up, grabbing the edge of her pool. The camera looks to her back as her naked body leaps out of the bath. She starts to hear I CAN’T FIGHT THIS FEELING ANYMORE by REO Speedwagon, then picks up a nearby bathrobe she conjured out of nothing, donning it and tying the sash. She walks to the music, fixing her hair as she does. As the guitar solo kicks in, a turquoise wooden door appears before her, beside it she sees El/Jane’s policeman protector, Chief Jim Hopper.)
HOPPER: (knocks on post of door) Hey.
EL: Yes?
HOPPER: Can I talk you guys a minute?
(El telekinetically opens the door for Hopper to enter, he sees El sitting on the bed with Mike Wheeler.)
Hi.
EL & MIKE: Hi.
(Hopper makes his way into El’s room with Kali following in with him, about to observe what’s going on. Hopper pulls up a chair, and turns off the radio to give a pep-talk to the young couple. Kali sits by the dresser drawer, watching Hopper struggling to give the pep-talk that Joyce Byers was prepping him to deliver. Kali watches with a hint of warmth, while Mike quietly berates him in front of El, which she laughs at, causing Kali rolls her eyes at him.)
KALI: What a prick.
HOPPER: You know what? Your mom called.
MIKE: What?
HOPPER: Yeah. She needs you home right away.
MIKE: Is everything okay?
HOPPER: No, I don’t think so. It’s your Grandma.
(Mike and Hopper race to the Police Truck, with Kali readying to follow them. But first, she looks to her sister.)
KALI: Pardon me, Jane. I actually want to see this.
(Kali follows the guys to the truck with Mike asking Hopper anxiously what’s wrong with “Nana”, until…)
HOPPER: NOTHING!! THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH NANA!!!
MIKE: What?
