The Ocean Sciences Building at the University of Washington in Seattle is a brightly modern, four-story structure, with large glass windows reflecting the bay across the street.
On the afternoon of July 7, 2016, it was being slowly locked down.
Red lights began flashing at the entrances as students and faculty filed out under overcast skies. Eventually, just a handful of people remained inside, preparing to unleash one of the most destructive forces in the natural world: the crushing weight of about 2½ miles of ocean water.
In the building’s high-pressure testing facility, a black, pill-shaped capsule hung from a hoist on the ceiling. About 3 feet long, it was a scale model of a submersible called Cyclops 2, developed by a local startup called OceanGate. The company’s CEO, Stockton Rush, had cofounded the company in 2009 as a sort of submarine charter service, anticipating a growing need for commercial and research trips to the ocean floor. At first, Rush acquired older, steel-hulled subs for expeditions, but in 2013 OceanGate had begun designing what the company called “a revolutionary new manned submersible.” Among the sub’s innovations were its lightweight hull, which was built from carbon fiber and could accommodate more passengers than the spherical cabins traditionally used in deep-sea diving. By 2016, Rush’s dream was to take paying customers down to the most famous shipwreck of them all: the Titanic, 3,800 meters below the surface of the Atlantic Ocean.
Engineers carefully lowered the Cyclops 2 model into the testing tank nose-first, like a bomb being loaded into a silo, and then screwed on the tank’s 3,600-pound lid. Then they began pumping in water, increasing the pressure to mimic a submersible’s dive. If you’re hanging out at sea level, the weight of the atmosphere above you exerts 14.7 pounds per square inch (psi). The deeper you go, the stronger that pressure; at the Titanic’s depth, the pressure is about 6,500 psi. Soon, the pressure gauge on UW’s test tank read 1,000 psi, and it kept ticking up—2,000 psi, 5,000 psi. At about the 73-minute mark, as the pressure in the tank reached 6,500 psi, there was a sudden roar and the tank shuddered violently.
“I felt it in my body,” an OceanGate employee wrote in an email later that night. “The building rocked, and my ears rang for a long time.”
“Scared the shit out of everyone,” he added.
The model had imploded thousands of meters short of the safety margin OceanGate had designed for.
In the high-stakes, high-cost world of crewed submersibles, most engineering teams would have gone back to the drawing board, or at least ordered more models to test. Rush’s company didn’t do either of those things. Instead, within months, OceanGate began building a full-scale Cyclops 2 based on the imploded model. This submersible design, later renamed Titan, eventually made it down to the Titanic in 2021. It even returned to the site for expeditions the next two years. But nearly one year ago, on June 18, 2023, Titan dove to the infamous wreck and imploded, instantly killing all five people onboard, including Rush himself.
The disaster captivated and horrified the world. Deep-sea experts criticized OceanGate’s choices, from Titan’s carbon-fiber construction to Rush’s public disdain for industry regulations, which he believed stifled innovation. Organizations that had worked with OceanGate, including the University of Washington as well as the Boeing Company, released statements denying that they contributed to Titan.
A trove of tens of thousands of internal OceanGate emails, documents, and photographs provided exclusively to WIRED by anonymous sources sheds new light on Titan’s development, from its initial design and manufacture through its first deep-sea operations. The documents, validated by interviews with two third-party suppliers and several former OceanGate employees with intimate knowledge of Titan, reveal never-before-reported details about the design and testing of the submersible. They show that Boeing and the University of Washington were both involved in the early stages of OceanGate’s carbon-fiber sub project, although their work did not make it into the final Titan design. The trove also reveals a company culture in which employees who questioned their bosses’ high-speed approach and decisions were dismissed as overly cautious or even fired. (The former employees who spoke to WIRED have asked not to be named for fear of being sued by the families of those who died aboard the vessel.) Most of all, the documents show how Rush, blinkered by his own ambition to be the Elon Musk of the deep seas, repeatedly overstated OceanGate’s progress and, on at least one occasion, outright lied about significant problems with Titan’s hull, which has not been previously reported.
A representative for OceanGate, which ceased all operations last summer, declined to comment on WIRED’s findings.

Complete Guide of Digital Water Flow Meter
ATLANTECH is a leading manufacturer and supplier in India. They use digital water flow meters to measure the flow rate of fluids via pipes and tubes during industrial activities, while analog instruments are used to transfer the measurement of a substance onto a calibrated indication.
Digital flow meters operate by using electromagnetic induction, the Coriolis effect, and ultrasonic wave propagation. They are more demanding, complex, and prone to malfunctioning than analog ones, but have more measurement accuracy.
Magnetic flow meters measure the voltage that a liquid produces as it flows through a magnetic field to calculate the fluid flow rates, while Coriolis digital flow meters are precise and can handle specific contaminants in the measured fluid.

Due to the shortage of global water resources and increasing wastewater disposable costs, smart water meters are gaining immense popularity. They help end-users accurately determine the water consumption level, especially during peak season. According to a study, more than 700 million people across 43 countries suffer from water scarcity. As a result, the need for a sustainable water supply in various industries is on a constant rise. Moreover, smart water meters technology aid utilities in addressing the root cause of water concerns, thus saving time and resources. Hence, these factors are driving the growth of the smart water meter market.
On the other hand, smart water meters are embedded with digital components and connectivity systems that help them operate and transmit data. This escalates the cost of smart metering equipment. Also, these smart meters are designed based on customer requirements which further increases their cost, hindering the studied market’s growth.
Geographically, the Asia-Pacific is expected to witness the fastest growth during the forecast period. The growth is attributed to major contributions by China, India, Japan, etc. China is a hot spot for NB IoT-based smart water metering, and most mass-rollout projects are based on it. Similarly, Pilot AMI such as LoRaWan and NB IoT smart water metering projects gained success in Japan, Australia, and New Zealand. Such developments are likely to encourage water utilities to adopt LPWAN communication solutions, which will further augment the growth of the smart water meter market.
The major companies listed in the smart water meter market are Arad Group, Master Meter Inc (Acquired by Arad Ltd), Datamatic Inc, Elster Group GmbH, Neptune Technology Group Inc, Sensus USA Inc (Acquired by Xylem), Badger Meter Inc, Kamstrup AS, Diehl Stiftung & Co KG, Itron Inc, ICSA (India) Limited, Landia GYR AG, Aclara Technologies LLC (Acquired by Hubbell Incorporated), Zenner International GmbH & Co KG, and Mueller Water Products Inc.
The threat of substitutes for smart water meters is substantially high owing to the availability of conventional meters and smart extensions integrated with the existing systems. Additionally, the awareness of the smart water meter is comparatively lower than the conventional meters, thus prompting buyers to choose the latter.

"GNN has reported several times over the last three years about large baleen whales returning to waters in which they haven’t been sighted for decades.
Now again, news from Argentina shows that the benefits of the 1946 International Convention for the Regulation of Whaling are still compounding, with sei whales returning to the South American nation’s coastal waters for the first time in nearly a [century].
Overhunting during the 1920s and 1930s led these massive blue-grey giants to abandon their ancestral waters in Argentina.
“After nearly a century of being hunted to near extinction, sei whale populations are now bouncing back and returning to their former habitats,” said Mariano Coscarella, a biologist and marine ecosystem researcher at Argentina’s CONICET scientific agency, who added that the whales “reproduce every two or three years, so it nearly took 100 years for their population to reach a level where people could notice their presence.”
The third largest whale in the world, the sei can grow up to 64 feet (20 meters) in length and weigh up to 31 tons (28 tonnes). It’s also among the fastest whales in the world, and is certainly the fastest for its size group. It can swim 31 mph over short distances.
Despite being recognized on the IUCN Red List as Endangered, there are estimated to be 50,000 sei whales in a global population that is trending up.
Apart from sei whales and Argentina, a recent survey in the Seychelles sighted 10 groups of at least a few blue whales, the first such observations since 1966.
Back in March, a New England Aquarium aerial survey team sighted a gray whale off the New England coast last week, a species that has been extinct in the Atlantic for more than 200 years.
The largest animal on Earth, the blue whale, is returning to coastal Californian waters in numbers not seen since before the whaling industry, GNN reported in 2023 based on a 2014 survey.
And down in Antarctica, where many different whale species come to feed and breed, recent surveys have found the Southern Ocean is once again becoming a Sarengetti for whales, with an estimated 8,000 Southern fin whales found between 2018 and 2019."

Poe’s Annabel Lee in TLT #1
“Annabel Lee” is the last poem E. A. Poe composed, and arguably one of his most famous ones. It is in many ways, typical of one would consider a Poe poem, featuring thematics such as the death of a beautiful young woman, love, and grief. Thematics and subjects that are ever-present in the tlt book series, and I will do my best to dissect in this post.
With a superficial read of the books, most would garner the rather obvious parallel between John Gaius and Alecto on the one hand, and the hero of the poem and Annabel Lee, on the other. John himself is not particularly mindful or discreet of the analogy he himself creates. And he has no need to, seeing as he is the only one that remembers the world from before. And I think it is terribly beautiful and utterly devastating, in a poetic irony sort of way, that a comparison so obvious as this, a hallmark of American poetry would go completely unnoticed in the new world that John has built in his image, for he is the only one who truly knows, the only one who remembers.
Another more subtle parallel, I feel could be drawn between Gideon and Harrow, and the poem’s heroes. Though, I must admit it is perhaps a bit of a stretch. I might make another post abt that. But for now, let’s dive in the magical world of Annabel Lee, and dissect the poem, bit by bit.
For all our literature geeks out there, I will just point out that the poem is a narrative poem, and it uses a few different rhyme schemes, and meters, with both anapests and iambs being present (Shout out to all the lovely people who are familiar with iambic fifteen-syllable lines and have been haunted by them).
I will now start with a general feeling of the poem before jumping into the details. From the start, Annabel Lee feels like a fairytale, with a hopeful start that alludes to the fairytale opening of Once upon a time… However, as the poem progresses this hopeful emotion slowly devolves to something eerie, ominous, and desperate. Something dark, cynical, and terrifying. And this is where we will draw our first parallel.
The Earth is dying. That much we can garner. There is however a man, that loves her more than anything else. That desperately, with his clumsy, human, imperfect, selfish way wants to save her. And thus, she bestows him with a gift, hoping that he would indeed help. It does make for a nice fairytale start of the story does it not? Unfortunately, however, this is not how it evolves, for John inevitably fails to do what he has been tasked with, despite all his love for her. And he kills her. She is now trapped in a human-like body of John’s design, a body that in its design is proof he could not escape the industrialism he so loathed, and she feels like a monstrosity. And the story only gets worse from then on, with her inevitable banishment in the Tomb for what seems to be an eternal sleep at the behest of John’s Lyctors.
Both takes I feel follow the same pattern of emotional development, regarding both their content of the text and the emotional rollercoaster they inspire in the reader.
It was many and many a year ago
In a kingdom by the sea
That a maiden there lived whom you may know
by the name of Annabel Lee
10.000 years ago, to be precise, in a water-filled planet called Earth. See that fairytale tone? Also, I would like to point out once more, that saltwater references. Salt water, the sea, Θάλασσα as a source of life and energy is a strong thematic that repeats itself multiple times in Muir’s books, and this is no exception. And the fact that Earth is a planet with a lot of saltwater, and in this instance serve both the kingdom and the personification of the maiden is an apt usage of the theme. Moreover, in these introductory lines, we are immediately presented with what will be the central figure of the poem, Annabel Lee, an alleged maiden. A noun that alludes to a young, beautiful woman. (Alecto is arguably in the form that John gives her, also a beautiful woman, despite the Lyctors finding her monstrous. I am of the opinion that what unsettled them was that Alecto was both too bizarre, too other, too immense to be fully understood and contained within so plain a physical vessel, and way too human to be clearly marked as different and other. One look at John’s creation and they would immediately see that alien strange cavalier, and their closest friends in her quirks and mannerisms, all at once.)
And this maiden she lived with no other thought
than to love and be loved by me
I was a child and she was a child
In this Kingdom by the Sea
I need not point out I feel the thematic of an impossibly powerful love that is introduced in these lines, the desperate love that John harbored for his dying home planet, and the equally desperate love Alecto harbors for the man she thought would save her. Even when he betrays her, one of the things she says to John immediately after he confines her in the human form is I love you. (“What else...” “I love you”, “…You said that too.”) And of course, the notion that they were both “children”, inexperienced with little idea of what they were doing in their despair– most certainly not untrue. A line that heavily points to one of Pyrrha’s most iconic lines in Nona the Ninth “We were children - playing in the reflections of stars in a pool of water... Thinking it was space.” And they were children in comparison to what they are now. Inexperienced and stumbling through their first steps in the chaos that love is.
But we loved with a love that was more than love—
I and my Annabel Lee;
With a love that the winged seraphs of heaven
Coveted her and me.
Now these lines tie a bit more loosely to tlt. The love that these children so to speak harbor is not any less real because of their youth and inexperience. On the contrary the aftereffects of Alecto’s and John’s love are very much real and rather disastrous for the solar system. And such love, apparently inspired jealously. In the poem in the usually benign and protective guardians that angels are, and in the books, in the Lyctors. And I think that it is at this point that the thematics might or might not deviate from the books. Because one might say, that the Lyctors, that I feel are in these lines represented by the angelical figures, could not possibly be jealous of Alecto, and her relationship with John, could they? They find her monstrous and wrong, a hindrance, so what could they be jealous about? A lot of things, I believe. For we do see in the books the extends of the affections that John harbors for Alecto, even though his little man not responsible for the consequences of his actions, behavior. In the beginning John explains everything to Alecto through his eyes, takes her everywhere, and does not part with her. He harbors this love and kinship for his strange cavalier, or the soul of the Earth that chose him to save her, that it seems to overshadow even the depth of emotion he feels for his Lyctors. For he cares for and loves Augustine and Mercy and Gideon and Cassiopeia, Ulesses and Titania, but I feel that the love he has for them is but a speck in the ocean of the emotional turmoil that Alecto inspires in him. So they cover them for a love they themselves cannot feel.
And what would you do, how would you feel, if the man you gave everything up for, the man you uprooted your life for, the man you condemned the planet and the billions of lives on it for, barely had eyes for you? If despite all you had done for him and all you did on a daily basis to keep this impossible empire intact, all he ever did was parade his monstrous, weird, wrong, guard dog around? And no matter what you did you could never get rid of her, for she was everywhere, and she was his, and he never could care for you as his friend, as a companion, an advisor, a pillar of the empire, his hand and gesture and manifestation of his will with nearly as much love and devotion he showed her? What if you felt that she was a distraction keeping him from building the empire he was meant to build?
And this was the reason that, long ago,    In this kingdom by the sea,  A wind blew out of a cloud, chilling    My beautiful Annabel Lee;  So that her highborn kinsman came     And bore her away from me,  To shut her up in a sepulchre    In this kingdom by the sea.   The angels, not half so happy in heaven,    Went envying her and me— Yes!—that was the reason (as all men know,   In this kingdom by the sea)  That the wind came out of the cloud by night,    Chilling and killing my Annabel Lee.
Given my ramble above I will not expand anymore on how the Lyctors would see Alecto at least as a hindrance to the empire, and at most would loathe her, for despite never having sacrificed as much as they had – in their eyes at least - she had John’s attention, devotion, respect and -frankly obsessive- love. What follows now, is an abrupt change of tone (gone are the fairytale notions) and an allusion to the Tomb, even though we know that John himself put her in there and not the other Lyctors. But we also know that the other Lyctors were on a surface level, the driving force of that decision. He sealed her away to appease them. And at least in John’s little man mentality he could insist that it was for them and their insistence that he sealed her away. And he feels the loss of Alecto, his Annabel Lee. Furthermore, Annabel Lee has been chilled, and while the interpretation in the poem can be a bit vague, we know that Alecto is held in a freezing ice coffin practically. Frozen in time in the subzero temperatures of the Ninth.
But our love it was stronger by far than the love
Of those who were older than we—
Of many far wiser than we—
And neither the angels in heaven above,
Nor the demons down under the sea,
Can ever dissever my soul from the soul
 Of the beautiful Annabel Lee:
Lyctorhood ala John. Binding your soul to the soul of a planet, to the soul of Earth. It doesn’t get any stronger and up and personal than that. A love and bond that is stronger than all he knows I don’t think there is much of anything anyone can do to sever Alecto’s connection from John. It is presented as one of the big issues in the book. How to kill God when he has bound his life force to a bloody planet, who seems to be rather murderous on the best of days. I quite look forward to seeing how that moves forward. For the hero of our poem, don’t know about John I must admit, seems to be certain nothing can tear their souls apart from each other.
For the moon never beams, without bringing me dreams
 Of the beautiful Annabel Lee;
And the stars never rise, but I feel the bright eyes
Of the beautiful Annabel Lee;
And so, all the night-tide, I lie down by the side
Of my darling—my darling—my life and my bride,
In her sepulchre there by the sea,
In her tomb by the sounding sea.
The first two lines are pretty familiar, aren’t they? They should be because they are featured in the books. And they point that our hero meets Annabel Lee in his dreams. Aka the whole premise of Nona the Ninth, where Nona dreams of Alecto’s memories. As for the second set of lines, it seems to be an allusion to both John’s original bright  golden eyes and the bottomless black pits of Alecto’s in which the stars never rise. As for the next line, my presumptive butt would like to take it as a bit of a foreshadowing. And a symbol. Yes, it does bring to mind John’s ascension in a sense with the lying on the ground theme, but the imagery here is much more serene, peaceful. So, I would like to believe it alludes to the end, where John will finally find peace and will lie besides Alecto for what could be their final rest. I do not remember if he lay beside her every night before, so correct me if I am wrong. But I would find it awfully poetic for them to do that as they set off Resurrection Vol2 or they reverse what they have done. And the last lines again allude to the Tomb and the sea. So, a random crazy idea is that they would both lie together in the Tomb and reset everything. And that the Tomb, their place of final rest or not, will be surrounded by water, so I have this crazy imagery that perhaps the Tomb containing Alecto’s and John’s lifeforce will be the center, the core, of the new planet that would resemble earth. And thus, an ocean shall rise surrounding the two, and they will eternally lay beside each other in the depths of a planet surrounded by saltwater.
All in all, both stories are stories of love in its all-consuming nature, that can be romantic and all encompassing, or take a darker turn and become obsessive and destructive. Of Love that can transcend the mortal realm and alter the laws of the world as we know it, inspiring dark feelings in what should be benevolent characters. And still that love transcends the obstacles that are set, for better or worse. Is it really as beautiful as it appears? The stories also are stories of grief and loss that defines the one that gets left behind, grief that attaches itself to the person and doesn’t let go, overpowering sense and sensibility. That becomes the past present and future of our hero. That has no outlet and suffocates its bearer. (We have seen John’s darker days, where he is drunk and barely functional.)
Okay it is probably way too late, and I am way too tired, but it makes sense in my head. Next part of this one we will be analyzing possible comparisons between this lovely poem and Gideon and Harrow’s relationship.
Take care of yourselves.

Full time barista here I’ve always been envious of the men on stage especially the heavy weights. Don’t want to over work the chronivac but help me become a muscle bull as big as jean pierre fux.
Mate, I understand you only too well…. There are few things hotter than the real heavy beefcakes. I've tried it long enough myself… But I didn't make it either. Jean Pierre is a pretty good role model… But I have an idea…
Friday morning. It's 06:00, you have to hurry, in one hour you have to prepare the first coffee. You don't have time for much more than a few situps and pushups. In the bathroom you have to hurry. You need longer and longer to conceal your receding hairline. You are now 40 years old, slowly you just notice that you are getting older. If you go out tonight to party, it will take you almost the whole Saturday to recover. The cosmetic industry has nothing effective to offer against the wrinkles in the corners of your eyes. And even if you don't need to be ashamed of your body: You won't gain much more muscle in your lifetime.
Shit, at 07:00 o'clock people are already queuing up. You hate it when you can't open the store in peace. But as it looks, it will be 10:00 o'clock, until you have the first moment of rest. In fact, it's even 10:30 when your colleague thinks you can take a break. If you need it, he adds with a wink. You look fantastic today! You take a mineral water and sit down in the warehouse. In fact, you feel pretty damn good right now. You drink the water in one go. You don't have much time for a break. And you have to piss again before the lunch business starts. Your lower jaw drops as you wash your hands. Fuck, what happened to you. There are no more receding hairlines or laugh lines. You look ten years younger than when you got up today. The only difference is that you look as if you'd spent the last ten years doing little else but lifting iron. Your T-shirt is almost blown up by your biceps and pecs. And your jeans look like they're painted on your monstrous legs. How could you not notice that? As you tie the apron back on your way back to the counter, you wonder why you were just amazed. Since your 20th birthday, you've spent every spare minute at the gym, investing every penny you earn in protein and supplements. Hell, if you didn't look the way you do, you would have wasted a hell of a lot of time and money.
The calm in your coffee bar begins to subside again. The lunch business is starting up. There's a beefcake in your line that makes you jealous. Yo, bro! he greets you. It's nice to see that there are real men working here, too. What you can recommend to him. You suggest the protein bomb. A scramble of 10 eggs with 400 grams of chicken breast. He grins and nods. And a liter of still mineral water. The bro shares your taste. While you type everything into the register, he asks you if you're all-natural. Of course you are. With the money for the meal, he slides you a card. In case you want to think about it.
It is 17:00 o'clock, when you tie off your apron. Fuck' according to your watch you have walked 12,000 steps today on the few square meters behind the counter. But it also looks like it's been a pretty good day so far. You're 20 now, and the idea of opening your own café with healthy and, above all, protein-rich food came to you when you were 16. That's when you started getting into high performance bodybuilding. And a place like this was missing at that time. And then you built this place with your mentor and trainer as a straw man. But you can't stand behind the counter for more than ten hours. Even if you are the best advertisement for your products, you have to work out at least four hours every day. Otherwise you don't stand a chance on the big stage.
Tumblr media
You might not be one of the big ones yet… But you are on a really good way to get there. You met Jean Pierre Fux once at a fitness fair in Germany. A great role model for you. And he said that at your age he would have been a linnet compared to you. The prerequisites for a brilliant career are there. Enjoy it and make the best of it!

The skyline of New York is beautiful, especially from the tower. Despite the fact that it’s one of the highest buildings in the city, dozens of skyscrapers still crawl across the landscape like trees on a mountain, the view is one of the reasons Tony had insisted on making most of the walls out of large sheets of glass that he loves to brag, is almost impenetrable. It’s winter, now- the seasons have changed so suddenly it’d almost been possible to miss the way the once orange trees that decorated the grounds have become barren, but, with the dusky sky being no more than a shadowy glaze of purple by no later than 5pm, and with the temperature dropping so rapidly that everyone was complaining about it, it was pretty undeniable.
Y/N rounds the corner into one of the lesser used rooms. The carpets are warm, she can feel them through the woollen socks she’s wearing, and as always, she finds her gaze drifting to the glowing cityscape beyond the cluster of couches.
It’s only when she hears gentle breathes that she turns to look away from the windows. She smiles at what she sees, settled on one of the larger love-seats, is a bundled up Sargent Barnes. The neckline of a thick woven sweater is peaking beyond the edges of a thickly stitched blanket, and his head is lolling back against the arm rest in a way that makes his hair look like shining dark water beneath him.
“So this is where you’ve been hiding” she murmurs to herself, “Steve must’ve searched everywhere else.”
He doesn’t respond, he’s too deeply asleep.
She can’t bring herself to wake him, but, she can’t bring herself to leave him, either.
With a decisive sigh she wonders away from the resting figure, towards the small kitchenette. She makes a coffee, silently, and rummages through the drawers until she finds a tablet that’s been discarded there by someone who’s clearly long forgotten it.
It turns on, screen illuminating with the Stark Industries logo, before scanning her face with a dull hum. It’s fully charged, which is a pleasant surprise. She blows over the steaming mug she’s just prepared, and crosses back over to the chairs.
She arranges herself on a seat across from where the man is still sleeping, pulling her legs up to her chest whilst she settles in, pleased to be cozy, and peaceful as the sun starts to lower even further behind the buildings she loves watching so much.
By the time her coffee is finished, it’s only the light from the object she’s holding illuminating the room. She asks Friday to silently fix that for her, which the AI does, by flicking a few dim spotlights on around the room. It’s dark enough to not disturb anyone, but, it’s just enough for her to be able to make out the face of the person still sleeping a few meters away.
He looks calm she thinks. He looks warm, and like he’s actually managing to rest, all of which are things she knows he doesn’t get enough of. She’s about to shut off her tablet, and leave him a note when he stirs.
His arm lets out a low mechanical growl, that despite being tempered by the layers of fabric he’s draped in, still sounds awfully loud in the otherwise silent room.
Y/N gets to her feet, just as his body tenses beneath his covers, and, with a sudden, anxious intake of breath, he blinks himself awake.
She stills herself, watching as blue, muddled eyes assess their surroundings. When they eventually land on her, she smiles—
“Hey, sweetheart”
His head tilts, his flesh hand creeps out from wherever it’s been hidden, so that he can paw at his jaw. He’s still looking at her, as he pulls out his other one, too, and before she can say anything else, he reaches out, both arms extending up towards where she’s stood, tilting her head.
His fists open and close, and she finds herself crossing the space to stand between them as he grabs at the empty air between them.
The gesture is so innocent, it’s so sweet, and hopeful, that she can’t help but hold onto his hands, as they brush against her hips.
“Doll,” he murmurs, voice horse, “I…I was— I was dreamin’?”
That’s definitely a question, so she nods. He returns the gesture, tugging her a fraction closer towards him.
“Can I have a hug?”
She looks down at him, and sees the way his cheeks are turning red.
One of her hands slips down across one of his arms, she feels the unyielding surface of vibranium beneath the soft covering of fabric, when her palm reaches his neck, he sucks in a breath that sounds strangely needy.
“Sure you can” she says, gesturing for him to budge up, “I would’ve woken you, but I didn’t know when you’d last gotten any sleep”
He hums as she tucks herself into his flank, pressing her body close against his on the now cramped surface.
It’s warm, his body runs hotter than most, due to the serum and the fast metabolism it breeds, and he’s been tangled in sheets and layers for god knows how long, so it’s no wander that the material of the couch is stifling. When she leans in to press a delicate kiss to his temple, she feels sweat dampening his hair, instinct leads her reach up with the arm not draped over his waist, so that she card it back. He visibly shivers at the contact, before letting his head lean more obviously into her fingers.
“What were you dreamin’ about?” she wonders, still stroking his brow, “Do you remember?”
“No”
His voice is almost a whisper against her throat, it hasn’t taken long at all for him to curl up into her chest, relishing in the affection, and the gentleness of the environment. It’s clear to Y/N that he’s still half asleep, it’s plain in the way he’s breathing so slowly, muscles in his back soft and pliant underneath her touch.
“Didn’t know you where home” he croaks, “I’d have come found you…”
“Well I decided to save you the trouble” she replies, kissing his the spot on his brow where her thumb has just been, “Steve said he’d lost you after dinner, ‘m glad you were gettin’ some rest, you don’t sleep nearly enough”
Bucky curls his arms around her waist, and shuffles a fraction, earnestly trying to coax his way between her legs, so that he can take up his favourite position against her front.
“What’re tryin’ to do?” Y/N wonders, “Oh—“ she exhales, helping in his efforts to slip into place, “Come on then”
He nuzzles into her throat like an affectionate pet, almost purring in delight when her thighs close around his hips, boxing him in.
“God, you’re warm” she notes, stroking the heavy mess of hair at the base of his neck, “you feelin’ okay?”
“Better now you’re here, doll”
She laughs at that, shaking her head.
“‘m serious, Buck— “
The man grumbles at that, and she can’t help but chuckle again, picturing the pout and furrowed brow she knows he’s hiding against her neck.
“Sweetheart” she amends, knowing it’d been the term of address he’s objecting too, “Sweet, sweet boy”
Her voice is like honey, it’s thick and indulgent.
He loves it. He loves her.
“‘m alright… I love you…”
She hums softly in response, letting him cuddle up, further cementing his position against her front, locking both arms around her waist, so that nothing, nobody, would stand a chance at prising him away.
“Do you have anywhere to be?” he asks, voice almost slurring.
“No” Y/N chuckles quietly, knowing how hard he’s trying not to drift back off to sleep, “I’m all yours”
He audibly moans at that, at the sheer bliss, that concept drowns him in.
“I… I mean it, darlin’” he murmurs, “I love you so much”
“I know” she says calmly, “I love you too”
His heart throbs happily in his chest, and he realises he can’t stop his eyes from closing. He lets his breathing deepen too, exhaling long and slow, before pressing a gentle kiss to the skin of her throat.
“You’re exhausted” she notes, stroking the nape of his neck, “Go back to sleep, Buck, It’s okay”
She feels his lips again, cool against her neck, and then her jaw.
“What?” he hears her ask, a lilt of humour in her tone, “What’ve I done, huh? Why’re you bein’ so lovely?”
He shakes his head, nose brushing against her chin, his eyes still closed.
She leans down, shifting a little to kiss his brow.
Even in the dimly lit room, she can see the ghost of a smile cross his face.
Despite the evident exhaustion, he’s beautiful, clean shaven and showered, and for once, not fighting the urge to relax.
“I’m not goin’ anywhere” she promises quietly, “I’ll lock us in if you want?”
He considers her offer for a moment, before giving her the slightest nod—
“FRIDAY? Can you shut us in for a while please? Security override from family only”
“Sure thing, boss”
As soon as the placid AI voices it’s agreement, Bucky sags in position, surrendering to his bodies urge to curl back up.
Y/N swallows a chuckle at his quick surrender; Instantly, she loops her arms around his back, stroking the thick material of his sweater as she feels him falling asleep against her chest.
Before long, he’s snoring, and she can’t help but let her own head loll back against the couches arm rest.
Heat is pouring out of him like water, and the blanket he’d been using before is now draped over them both, trapping the warmth, making it impossible for her to stay awake.
Luckily she’d been telling the truth when she’d told him that she had no other plans for the evening, because there’d be no way in hell she’d be making them now.
Hours pass, the skyline outside the windows comes to life with bright, flickering lights against a deep navy sky, and the couple stay peaceful until the sun starts to rise, overtaking the cityscape, bathing it in a gentle, glow of pink.

Salt Lake Burlinskoye is a landmark of the Altai Territory; its most important feature is its pink color, which attracts numerous tourists to it. It is located on the shore of the village of Bursol. However, the lake does not always have this color. It acquires a pink tint only in warm weather. The rest of the time, the water in it is the usual color. Therefore, the best time to visit Lake Burlin is hot summer days. The higher the water temperature and the brighter the sun, the more pink the pond will be. The reason for this phenomenon is a microscopic algae. In the process of its life, it produces a pigment that makes the lake play with all shades of pink - from pale salmon to raspberry.
The area of the closed lake is 32 square kilometers, the average depth is about a meter. Under the silt there is a layer of Glauber's salt, which I mine right on site. Lake Burlin is the center of the salt industry, which originated here more than 200 years ago.
