he’s so pissed & convinced you’re there to hurt him he doesn’t even register that he’s hurting you. once he tears at your sweatshirt you’re yelping and scrabbling away from him but he’s so determined that he doesn’t even notice the way you’re shrieking “clark, quit it!” as he’s ripping your shirt and bra off easier than you’d tear a napkin. he’s rambling crazily and shaking you around like you’re a badly behaved animal the whole time, handling you real rough by the back of the neck, has you cornered against the wall. you’re on the verge of tears trying to cover yourself while all of your clothes litter the ground around you, and you barely manage to sniffle out “there’s nothing, see!” indignantly as you’re totally bared to him, but he squints at you and insists you could be hiding it elsewhere and for him to trust you he has to do a “more thorough search.” bent over with your palms against the wall, spread open wide so he can check really good type thorough. just to be sure.

Hi all!

I'm Lil. I'm showing up on tumblr under my own name for once because I was one of the writers for Blades of Light & Shadow 2 and 3 as well as being the designated lorekeeper. (I also worked on Cursed Heart 2 (and was the facial reference for the Fae version of Longclaw, hence the icon), as well as Kiss of Death and Murder at Homecoming, and I was the lead writer on Villainous Valentines and the Blades Tabletop Guide.

I was one of the many people who were laid off by Pixelberry when the Cursed Heart team was dissolved over a year ago now. But my final contribution to PB canon, Blades of Light and Shadow 3, officially finishes its wide release today. The layoff was traumatic for a lot of reasons, but it did offer me the strange silver lining of getting to be on both the brainstorm team for Blades 3 and being the person who wrote the initial drafts of the book. I was not the book lead, to be clear, but I'm honored to have gotten to work for Emi and to have been gifted the absolute privilege to act as an archaeologist in the world of Morella and beyond in Blades 2 & 3. I especially loved writing the lore tablets and found objects like Nifara's letter, Kade and Tyril's poetry and songs (and Kade and Bakshi in general, my beautiful bards), the Old Gods, Mal and Tyril's romance routes, and both Mal and Raine's mental health journeys.

Since I wasn't the lead, not everything I wrote made it in, and there's some stuff that even ended up on my own personal cutting room floor for Blades 3 (mostly due to length). I got nostalgic over the weekend, and found a longer version of one of Tyril's poems that I thought y'all might like to see, so I've included it below as thanks for everything y'all have given the Blades team. You are what made the sequels happen, especially Blades 3.

Because I figure you might be looking for more stuff like Blades now that we've come to what I dearly hope is a bittersweet but satisfying end, I did want to shout out the art I was consuming when we were working on Blades 3:

Not Another D&D Podcast - If you're a fan of Dimension 20 (and who isn't?), you know the brilliant work of Emily Axford and Brian Murphy, but Jake Hurwitz's hilarious and heartfelt himbo fighter Hardwon from Campaign One was my direct inspiration for the voice of Nithrax. (Wanda Maximoff was Midys's, if ya couldn't tell. An autistic queen.) But truly pick any of NADDPOD's campaigns (or Dungeon Court), and you'll have a great, hilarious, and surprisingly poignant time.

Transplanar RPG "The Second Stranger" Show and Podcast - Mercer? Lee Mulligan? Iyengar? You know them, you love them, but I guarantee you've never heard someone like Transplanar's Dungeon Master Connie Chang. His work is poetic, visceral, and wickedly funny in a way that is, might I say, otherworldly, and her cast is magnificent. "The Second Stranger" is an all trans, POC led actual play show about a group of misfits who have to save their world's gods before they can save the world. It is also shippy (and gay) as fuck. Truly, if you wanted the Blades gang to be a polycule, this is the show for you.

Baldur's Gate 3 and The Dungeons & Dragons Movie - the new and worthy additions to the canon. If you haven't tried 'em please do.

Anyway. The poetry is below the cut (please be nice. Tyril is a baby writer.) and I'm feeling some kind of way so if you have lore questions (or questions in general), feel free to drop 'em in my inbox and I can try to answer them. They'll be non canon answers and I can't talk about PB's internal processes in detail, obvi, but I did hang around with the fire with Kade a fair time so I know a thing or two. I actually work at Chapters now, and my first book was high fantasy as well (primarily Norse and Celtic mythology). I'm also working on a new indie game with some other Pixelberry layoff casualties including some incredible artists, the head writer of the Cursed Heart, The Crown and the Flame, and It Lives series. (They are the same person can you imagine???), and the writer who gave us that scene at Joaquin's apartment in LoA2. (You know the one.) We hope to be able to tell y'all more about it soon.

[A behind the scenes note, I always told myself that translated Morellan Elven/Elvish tends to lack the full poetry of the original because they have more words for things than the human tongue does. Part of this is just that we were working with only a few references from Book 1 and added as we went, but i also liked the idea that a culture this old (and a culture partially founded by a storyteller) would be difficult to translate to a younger language like Morellan. So if the poetry's bad, I blame the imaginary translation.]

SECRETLY HAS PINTEREST BAHAHAHAHA but just for finding poetry and looking at bonsai trees. Mikey found out (like he doesn't have pinterest too??) and they all ended up making fun of him for it to the point where Leo debated deleting the app but ended up forgetting about it.

very specific but he has this unique type of love language where he'll ask you something and without any further questions he will go get or accomplish whatever he hinted at. for example, y'all will just be hanging out, and he'll go, "are you hungry?" and if you just as much nod your head hesitantly he will run to the kitchen and make you a 3 course meal. or, he'll just ask you if you're cold, and if you say yes he brings you a heater and a blanket. he doesn't ask things like, "can i get you a water?" he'll just ask if you're thirsty and go from there.

has the most gorgeous handwriting on the planet. this beautiful cursive print that is lowkey unreadable but so aesthetically pleasing. at first you were shocked but as you got to know him it made lots of sense, literally probably his biggest hobby is just remembering some random thing and then spending weeks straight perfecting it until it's natural for him. he loves to challenge himself to be perfect at literally anything, and his hand writing is one of those instances.

speaks fluent japanese OF COURSE but his brothers don't know it as well as he does (they all know a little at least) and he'll curse them out quietly in japanese behind their backs.

Leo wouldn't say he had a favorite brother of course but he definitely prefers Don's presense over the others. they always go to each other first when they have a problem or just want to rant, and they have a bunch of inside jokes.

after Donnie, Leo's the biggest insomniac. he gets nightmares a lot unfortunately, and most times when he wakes up he physically can't go back to sleep. literally Mikey will get up for a glass of water at 4:37 in the morning and Leo is up doing flips.

very random, but Leo is AWFUL at math. he meant to learn at some point but the time passed and he missed the boat. ofc math is Don's second language and Mikey and Raph couldn't care less (but somehow Mikey always guesses the right answers without doing the correct work??) but Leo is lowkey embarrassed that he struggles with it so much. he can do basic math and most things that come up in daily life like practical equations, but anything past times tables and division he cannot understand. if you come over and need help on your math homework he will try his HARDEST to help you but ultimately he's completely clueless.

always takes bugs outside. if the creepy crawly is creepy enough or makes you screech, he'll whip it with his katana but normally he'll take the time to scoop it up in his hands (literally no fear) and walk it outside calmly.

literally LOVES doing chores. it's like a form of self care for him. folding laundry, sweeping, mopping, washing the dishes, organizing the dojo, he'll literally put on some music and go to town. when he visits you he will literally just start straightening things up and picking things off of the floor. he hates having nothing to do so he'll just ask for something he can clean while y'all chit chat.

incredibly flexible. he can bend every which way, sit comfortably in a split for hours, can bend over IN HALF and grab the back of his legs--he's literally maxed out on flexibility. but splits training is his private time so unless you sneak you won't catch a glance. but when you do, in between of sliding dojo doors, it is... something. like excuse me sir how tf doesn't that hurt your bAWLLS

smells like lavender. dead serious his signature scent is lavender. it's not like he wears cologne or anything, he just lights a lot of lavender incense and candles to the point where if someone even steps foot in his room they walk out aroma-fied.

everyone in the fandom has their personal opinion of who's the best cook and who's the worst cook of the four, and it is finally time for my hot take of the century. i think Leo is by far the best chef, and Raph is the one who can't even make toast right (BUT he can grill i will admit the man can grill!). a lot of people say Mikey is the chef of the family, which i agree with, he enjoys cooking and baking very much, but this doesn't mean the food he makes is good 💀💀💀 he trusts himself over any recipe and so he just throws in whatever he feels like. Leo can't stand being in the kitchen while Mikey is cooking, his ocd can't stand it. this said, you'd think this would mean the guys prefer Leo's cooking over Mikey's but fact is Leo is such a perfectionist he will spend hours working on a meal it's past 11 by the time he's done. and he doesn't take requests, he only makes what he wants and then on top of that the healthnut version. he makes sushi a lot and goes crazy when you bring him salmon.

IS SUCH A DORK BAHAHAHA if you even so much MENTION a book or a show he likes he will blabber for HOURS about it. he knows every single fact there is to know about star trek it is insane. you amuse him not because you're interested of course but he is just so damn adorable when he's talking about something he enjoys (which he rarely gets the chance to without being made fun of LMAO)

Just because it's Friday and I think it may help with a few reminders in case your inbox starts to get flooded with the same old bs since a movie is releasing today:

R1 was filmed two years ago. It was supposed to be released at the end of last year but got delayed. The movie is now releasing this weekend so of course there will be tons of promotion because I'm sure the Rock and his crew spent a hefty amount on marketing and PR for this film. Chris is second billing so he's going to help with promoting the film and if that includes some other fluff pieces, then so be it. And People magazine loves to write fluff posts.

The movie was filmed TWO years ago. Chris has long moved on from this film, despite whatever reception it may get, and people may want to remember that. He is apparently already back to work on his most recent project, and he's already filmed two other projects this year. Nobody knows when these films plan to release or how they will release, but I expect it'll happen in the next few months or year.

Chris has had some recent misfires and from what I can see, it feels like some decisions were rushed due to the pandemic and also perhaps some business decisions made on the backend (get some bigger paychecks, then cushion your way to doing some smaller indie films). The way his last three projects appear to be much smaller in budget and scale, I think this is a safe bet that's what happened.

If your intention is to go looking for confirmation bias, that's what you're going to get. Searching for bad reviews and justifying it as a reason to be mad or upset, of course you're going to revel in misery loves company.

It looks like Chris did a great job in this otherwise lackluster movie and he has a lot of charm and charisma, but him carrying the film on his back isn't much if he's the only one doing the lifting. JK Simmons actually did lift heavy weights but he got wasted in this film because of his role being the "kidnapped Santa." So I wouldn't harp too much on that.

General audiences and critics are disappointed Chris's post MCU career hasn't been super exciting, but most agree they think he deserves better and wants better for him. Perhaps it's a testament the legacy he left in his most famous role, that has people just rooting for him regardless. Let's see what he does next. I think he's slowly carving a new path as we speak.

Lastly: Remember that in the world of public relations, marketing, and entertainment, agenda is always underlying. That being said, sometimes less famous and less influential people latch onto the more influential and famous in order to get a leg up. This usually happens when someone either doesn't have the ability themselves, or there's a bigger and more strategic story behind everything or there's transactional mutual benefits. Why do actresses like Sydney Sweeney and Florence Pugh seem to be able to go so far on their own, while others like Jordan Hudson (aka Bill Belichick's new gf) or every one of Leo D's gfs of the last decade seem to pop up on scene leveraging their relationships to get attention? Well...think about it. For example, Jordan is a former collegiate cheerleader that is now dating a famous ex head NFL coach. She's getting a lot of press right now due to this relationship and she was papped showing up to cheerleading practice recently in a Porsche. I'll just leave you with that. (And no, I don't think it's just because Bill is suddenly going through his mid-life crisis when he's 70 years old.)

I will say, I’m going in a few hours to watch the movie. Got a snack box made for us, and I’ll see what it has to offer. People who think that a Christmas movie with Dwayne is going to anything more than fun, high octane, and goofy are fooling themselves.

And let’s be honest, most people haven’t checked out a ton of Chris’ movies outside of Knives Out and Marvel anyways. They want him to do more unique roles, and he has, but they don’t watch 🙄 he’s creating the career he wants.

Hi, I'm Molly. In my day job, I work in the children's section of an indie book store, connecting patrons to books they and their young loved ones will love. And I'm offering the same service from the comfort of your own inbox! Unlike online rec lists (which often fall into broad categories or only offer info you could get from the back cover), I will walk you through what makes me think a certain book will appeal to your audience and what content to be aware of going in, and you can ask follow up questions and clarify what does and does not work.

sometimes i feel like the people who are constantly yelling at people to play ttrpgs that aren't d&d are like the vegans of the ttrpg world. it feels like they're on a soapbox sermonizing at me. i am interested in other systems, but it definitely puts a damper on actively looking for people to play with, cause that's really the only type of person i've personally encountered; even in regards to pathfinder.

i don't wanna play with people who feel like they're gonna breath down my neck every time i so much as mention the system i love! yeah, we get it. wotc sucks. they suck. the game is still great. yes it has weaknesses. that's literally fine because nothing is perfect! other ttrpgs aren't perfect either!

I agree! Although I will say, with both vegans and indie gamers, most I've encountered in real life are far more charming and reasonable then their online counterparts.

I've had many a delicious meal prepared for me by vegans, and it's definitely opened my mind and made me more inclined to intentionally reduce the amount of meat I eat.

Similarly, I've had some very lovely people offer to run other TTRPGs for me, and even though I didn't click with all of them, I enjoyed the experience and would be open to more new gaming experiences. Those are the kind of people that make good ambassadors for their hobby/lifestyle.

So Viv posted on her Instagram recently that she feels ‘burned out’ and that she needs to spend more time out with friends, and yet the evidence stands to the contrary. She’s done nothing but hang out with friends. She’s been to her ‘brother’’s wedding (understandable), been on numerous trips to New York to watch shows (trying to make connections with people who don’t really care about her demon shows, only being paid), to Japan (cruel otter cafes and enclosed foxes) and recently Las Vegas (the sphere that plays an environmental video on the inside but uses up a ton of energy via lights).

I’d say staying in one place and actually doing some work to feel personally accomplished and gain back some kind of drawing ability, instead of using other creatives and sticking your name over their efforts, would probably make her feel better. It would also stop being a sick show of overspending her fanbase’s money when many of them have been screwed over waiting for pledges that never came (erhem, playbills, erhem). Maybe also stay away from social media, because the realisation that other creatives are proving the indie scene is more than just ‘Vivziepop’ (TADC and Lackadaisy etc.) must be starting to hurt her ego.

Can't take time off to hang out with friends if you know in your heart of hearts that you don't have any real friends.

A few things regarding askbox ettiquette.

1. Please do not give Tarn children in the ask box. I’ve seen them go around a few times. As I said above, Tarn is a mass murdering sycophant. He should NEVER be given a child. If he receives one in the inbox, he will kill it. THIS IS YOUR ONLY WARNING.

2. Along those same lines, Tarn does not like children. He will not treat them kindly and interactions with sparklings (oc or canon) will be limited to non-existent.

3. Any asks that are not explicitly memes, or ask box games, will be answered as in character as possible. Meaning, if Tarn is not aware of something canonically, your ask may not be answered how you expect. Ex. here and here. That being said, there are some asks that require me to insert personal headcanons about Tarn due to lack of content and backstory on his character. 

4. Ask memes and games will always be labled as Closed or Accepting. If it is labeled as “Closed”, please respect my decision to not accept more of that particular ask by not inundating my inbox with more.

Hey happy WBW! I'm invading your inbox with a music ask! Is there a particular artist or genre or even song that gets you really in the zone for writing/your world/your story?

Omg hi! It's been far too long since I've used Tumblr, esp this page!

Music helps me with writing so much. I'll break down what music helps with what stories :D

Haven: As far as artists go, Radical Face, Daughter, and Midwife usually end up fitting really well and give me a lot of inspiration. I also like listening to a lot of nostalgic pop songs in general, and Youth Lagoon's album The Year of Hibernation. My favorite song off that album for Haven is July since the lyrics fit pretty well.

Prodigal: Chelsea Wolfe, Ethel Cain, and a lot of songs from the Arcane soundtrack! Specifically, the Arcane soundtrack can be really good for getting into fight scenes. I think my favorite individual songs for it, though, are Exile Villify by The National, Anhedonia by Chelsea Wolfe, and Before I Sleep by Marika Hackman. All of those have the benefit of fitting lyrics too.

The Day You Left: Alex G!!! Every Alex G song feels like Skip and Milo. I've also been wanting to get more into Car Seat Headrest and Two Door Cinema Club, too, because a lot of songs by them suit the story. Any sort of indie acoustic guitar stuff or indie rock written in someone's bedroom will probably give off the right vibe. My favorite song for them, though, is HandClap by Fitz and the Tantrums.

Kettle Creek: This is a backburner story, but anything very folky or americana! Fellow in the North by Cold Weather Company became my #2 song in my Spotify Wrapped because both the lyrics and the feeling of the song suited things so perfectly. I listen to Brown Bird, Lord Huron and The Oh Hellos for KC the most.
