What I’d Say If I Could Send One Message to My Soulmate

Please get here. I know I don’t need you, but that’s what makes this great right? I choose to want you, and you choose to want me, we both know we could survive independently in our own worlds, but we don’t want to. 

Right now I’m two months shy of 28. That’s not far from 30. And while I know that isn’t old by any means 28 years is a long time to wait and I think I’m done. Not that I get to decide, that’s up to the universe. But please know, I try my best to manifest you, look for you, find any sign that you’re close every. single. day. I know I’ve said I’ve been in love with people before but that, that was unrequited, romanticized, falsities. Not that I’m not romanticizing you right now. Don’t worry though, I am SO ready for the fights, the lulls, the rough patches along with all of the amazing and beautiful stuff. You’ll fight as hard as I will and we will make it together I just know it. 

I cry for you a lot, especially in my dreams. You take the shape of lots of people, some I know but sometimes they are strangers. No matter what though I know it’s you, well, not actually you, but dream you. I can see us in my dreams, cooking, dancing in the kitchen, sneaking away at parties and gatherings to be alone even if it’s only 5 minutes, always catching your eye across any room, you listening to me ramble about serial killers and other true crime, me listening to you explain your newest favorite game or your favorite conspiracy videos or sports team. And any chance, even the smallest, we get to touch, show, or tell one another ‘I love you’ we do, even when we fight. Oh, and you’ll never get mad about me wearing your clothes especially when I convince you that yours are scientifically softer and comfier haha. 

Sometimes I’ll dislike you and you’ll dislike me, that’s life. But 99% of the time I’m going to love you so hard and so much. And I hope you want the same.

Raised in Sacramento, California, at the age of five Derek discovered his love for playing the bass guitar. At the age of 8 he toured the world with local gospel quartet groups.  Derek played bass guitar in his high school jazz band from 1983 until graduation in 1984. After touring with Lionel Richie for 8 years in the early to mid. 2000’s, Derek decided to retire from touring and commit 100% of his time to writing and producing music.  As a songwriter and producer, Derek was influenced/inspired by great producers including Rick Ruben, Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, and Quincy Jones. With deep admiration for their diversity and wide range, Derek considers that to be musical genius. As a songwriter and producer Derek’s catalogue exemplifies a huge, diverse body of work.  He has gone on to win numerous awards for his music. Derek has become one of the premier producers in the industry today. He is dedicated to his craft and takes time to mentor young hopefuls trying to make it in the music business.
