Hey hey! I'm new in this neck of the woods (new to the blog AND just binged all of Demon Slayer that was on Netflix). You said you were looking for ideas sooo... Okay, how about Tanjiro falling for a girl who is a very strong Kitsune-demon (white hair, ears, and a fluffy tail)? Looks to be about his age, but is 300+ (though she still has the mind of a more mature teenager since the brain's development was frozen at her physical age and that doesn't normally finish developing until 25). Her situation is similar to Tamayo and was even altered by her so she can live without having to kill humans. She joined up with Tanjiro's group because she wanted to atone for having killed in the past by saving humans and has already been doing so on her own for the last few centuries (even raised a couple dozen human orphans over that time), but figured this was a more effective way to go about it, especially since it meant having a better shot at being able to take down Muzan once and for all. She is a very kind and nurturing type and accidentally became a big sister type figure for Nezuko before he even started to have feelings for her.
How would he handle the fact that he was a Demon Slayer falling in love with a reformed demon? How would he react to hers and Nezuko's sisterly relationship? If he decided to act on his feelings, what would he do if she confessed that she felt the same, but she doesn't feel like she deserves happiness like that because of what she had done over 200 years ago before Tamayo found her and helped her? What if she said she intended to have a Demon Slayer execute her after she felt she had atoned for her past because she would still deserve to be punished (girl's got a guilt problem)? How fascinated by those fluffy ears and tail would he be? Especially if ear scritches ended up being, like, her favorite thing, AND they were an immediate tell on how she was feeling even when she tried to deny whatever emotions she was feeling (droopy ears when sad, wagging tail when happy, ect). Lord knows I would be! What if Obanai and Sanemi are mean to/hurt her like Sanemi did with Nezuko? Anything else you want to add would be much appreciated; anything you want to remove is understood! Thanks in advance, and take all the time you need if you decide to do this! No rush at all! It's cool if you decide not to, of course! No hard feelings no matter what!
OMGGG I LOVE THIS AND I LOOOOVE YOU <333333 THIS! THIS IS THE AMOUNT OF DETAIL I LOVE! GURL I WILL DO ANYTHING FOR YOUUUU!!!!
Also! Welcome to the blog babes you came at the right time as I'm about to start posting every day so I hope you'll enjoy those fics! In the meanwhile take a look at some others I have already up :)
Also I know that alot of this isn't cannon especially the last bit but like let's just pretend because I really like it 😭🤣

Tanjiro Kamado x Kitsune!Reader
Content : Tanjiro Kamado x Kitsune!Guilt ridden! 200+ year old! Reader
Tanjiro falling in love with a kitsune demon reader who eventually becomes a sister figure to Nezuko and joins Tanjiros group to atone for the killings she did in the past
Proofread? : Yes.
------------------------------
Dragging your feet you forced yourself to catch up to the group, Tanjiro turning around to wait for you as Zentisu and Inosuke waited a little longer away for the both of you Inosuke screaming at you two to hurry up.
Tanjiro grabbed your hand and ran to the pair in front as to get to shelter quickly and not to irritat Inosuke further. Soon enough you were all walking at the same pace listening to Inosuke twirl an elaborate tale about his time in the mountains, suddenly you felt cold air on the palm of your right hand. You swivelled your head and realised that Tanjiro, now bright red had released the grip on your hand.
You both looked away sharpish as your faces turned red, even redder in Tanjiros case, determined not to show your embarrassment though the aggressive swishing of your tail and the twitch of your ears gave you away with not doubt.
------------------------------
Soon enough the group reached shelter for the night and settled down. Tanjiro set the box containing Nezuko down and opened it so she could walk around a little. Nezuko jumped out quickly and looked around her hair whipping her face as she looked around wildly. Finally meeting your eyes, she let out a hum of happiness and dive bombed into your lap.
'NEZUKO!' Tanjiro Screeched, horrified. 'THATS BAD MANNERS VERY VERY BAD MANNERS NEZUKO YOU CANT JUST DO THST TO SOMEO-'
"It's quite alright Tanjiro' you said, your voice quiet as not to disturb Nezuko who was nestled against you.
He muttered for a little while longer about bad manners to Nezuko before falling asleep on his futon. After what seemed like an hour you picked Nezuko up and layed her onto your futon so she could re-energise. Sliding down the wall behind you, you watched Tanjiro as he slept tears gathering to your eyes as thoughts filled your head. Your tail wrapped around you as an almost fluffy peice of comfort, but almost a reminder of what you were, and your ears flattened against your head sadly.
'How could someone ever love someone like me,' you whispered looking over him, tears blurring your vision, 'someone so perfect could never love someone so broken.'
Thoughts continued to invade your head, taunting you, reminding you of what you did all those years ago before you met Lady Tamayo, before she helped you become someone better. You thought back on all the children you raised, how Nezuko reminded you of some of them, and then how they were all dead and no matter what you will be alive to experience that pain forever.
You sighed deeply, wiping off fresh tears and stray strands of white hair away from your face. Before heaving yourself up and going outside.
You sat on the porch looking up at the moon for what seemed hours before you heard the door slide open and footsteps behind you that came to rest beside you.
'Hey' came a whisper
'Hey' you greeted back voice void of all emotion.
'You feeling OK? You don't look well." Tanjiro said as he finally came into view crouching infront of you, swiping your hair back to press his palm to your forehead, 'you do feel a bit warm' He said looking at you in the way that always made you melt.
You grabbed his hands as he began to fuss over you causing him to look up confused, 'I'm OK I swear' you said not being able to hold eye contact with him for more than a couple seconds before turning away so he wouldn't see the heat rising to your face.
Tanjiro set his lips into a tight line and plopped down next to you, knowing you were withholding something from him. You both sat in silence for a little while before you let your head drop down onto his shoulder. At this point you were too tired to care and so was he.
Out of reflex Tanjiro reached up and started gently scratching your ears. Your eyes shot open as your ears dropped down onto your head, an immediate tell on how you were feeling and like Tanjiro said, you weren't well. A bright red blush coated your cheeks but you squeezed your eyes shut and let it happen as this wasn't a normal thing, and definitely not something you were going to say no to.
------------------------------
You were jolted awake the next day by the squawking of a crow just above you. You jumped up looking around at your surroundings and an apparently very confused Tanjiro.
"Hashibira Inosuke, Agatsuma Zenitsu, Kamado Tanjiro and the demons L/N Y/N and Kamado Nezuko are to report to the Masters estate immediately!" It Screeched, "the hashira are waiting"
You and Tanjiro looked at each other, fear clouding your brains.
'I guess we better set off' You whispered, terrified of what is next to come.
'I suppose we should' whispered Tanjiro, equally as fearful.
No more then a half hour later you and Tanjiro bad successfully hustled everyone out the house and has started walking much to Zenitsu's complaint. After what seemed like years of Zenitsu whining you walked over to him and threw him onto your back as you walked. He flopped down and went quiet as everyone continued on the way.
As Tanjiro watched you care for Zenitsu despite being tired and unwell he realised how much harder it was becoming to suppress the feelings he had buried deep deep down in fear of them distracting him from his mission of turning Nezuko back into a human and also because he was scared you would reject him. He continued to watch you for a while as you swapped between carrying Inosuke and Zenitsu, adoration clear in his eyes, something he was glad you couldn't see.
After two hours of walking you finally reached the Masters Estate where you were rushed in by Kakushi and separated. Tanjiro was knocked out and bound, you and Nezuko dragged away and also knocked out and you bound just after Zenitsu and Inosuke were taken to the butterfly estate to check for injuries.
------------------------------
You were awoken by being thrown on the ground, your tail cushioning your fall. You looked up and saw many people dressed in the same uniform as Tanjiro. As yelling from behind you reached your ears you turned around to see Tanjiro still bound like you on the ground and a man with a shock of white hair and an open chested uniform holding the box that contained Nezuko and a sword held right infront if it!
Anger clouded your senses as you realised his intentions were malicious and used your strength to break you out your bounds and leap in the air as your ears pricked up sharply as to detect any movement. You dove towards the white haired crazy man yanking away Nezukos box and kicking him hard to the other side of the estate with your power along with another crazy person who had snakes wrapped around him and also came at you with a sword. He nearly scraped you but you booted him backwards just in time. You ran past a strange man with purple on the top of his face and crouched down in the safety of the shade. You fished Nezuko out and cradled her in your arms, reaching out and grabbing Tanjiro too, breaking his bonds before shoving your foot out and kicking the crazy man once again.
You sheltered them whilst glaring at any of the people who dared look your way apart from a lady with pink and green hair who piqued your interest. You held your hand out to her and she looked at the master who in turn nodded for her to go after being told what was going on. She sat infront of you with her hand outstretched and you lent your head forward and pressed it into her waiting palm, ears twitching. She squealed and rubbed your head, you knew for certain then she was your favourite. She eventually got called back to her post and you learnt her name was 'Mitsuri'.
The moment she was gone you turned back to defending Tanjiro and Nezuko, because no matter what you were not going to let them get harmed. Not whilst you were there to protect them at all costs.
------------------------------
Should i continue it and get them to confess feelings? 🤭

the spiderfly
sammy yinlian is a american chinese pansexual girl born with a flexible body and blue streaks artist and dance student bitten by a radioactive spider while she was painting butterflies and then got the idea of being a spiderfly when she realized that only she can protect everyone.
she used to be an orphan because her parents died in a car accident but her uncle stayed with her along with her Aunt
managed to save her step brothers but then failing to save her step sisters and uncles life in the process when they got crushed by a burning building falling apart making her live with extreme guilt.
has intense attachment and abandonment issues after loosing her the people she loved and making her a victim of a toxic friendship that she struggles to get out of due to the fear of being alone and having no one.
her fighting style is just ballerina like movements for the gracefulness✨✨
her step parents think that she is a gift from heaven because of her dark purple eyes and blue streaks which is why they wanted her to dance and have many goals.
despite being a talented dancer shes often the one leading and carrying the pressure when her friends dont wanna dance
her only two friends that never poured so much pressured then passed away due to a deadly disease they caught when a villain released toxic gas into sam's city some people got sick and some died as well putting more guilt into her. her other friend is alive but went missing
sam almost lost her limbs when she got hit by a saw being thrown at her and pinned to the ground while getting zapped and forced to watch a hallucination of her mistakes
abilities:
while she was at school a lockdown happened and she needed a excuse to get out of her class so she can save them without her identity being revealed but her teachers said no but she rebeled against that anyway.apperentlly a venom variant had broken in her school.it wasnt defeated but half of the people were safe some injured and no one understood why it chose that specific place.
sam got accepted into art school but then 3 years later quited due to art teachers complaining about how her art looks a bit cartoony and being ungreartful
super speed ( almost has a speed of a literal motorcycle but is still working on being careful so she doesnt blast herself against a wall the speed effects her gliding style )
flexibility ( shes born with a very flexible body giving her the advantages as a dancer and a fighter so she can do that one inosuke pose from demon slayer )
butterfly gilder ( she actually painted her glider a butterfly style herself when deciding on what it would look like for her suit. her glider is very strong so its almost impossible for it to be torn apart but she can only fly downwards when gliding or landing she can only go upwards by using her silk webs or just the wind )
silk web ( her webs are strong and a bit stretchy she uses it to swing upwards or try to connect a split building into one. her webs are also has a bit of sparkles but not only that she can also make the webs sharp and able to cut through hard material, she once did that to a villain )
butterflies ( she can make living butterflies with just webs and it will be real.often used as a tracker it has a blaster in the middle of the butterfly )
smoke bombs ( sams smokebombs are both used to blend in with something since she can change its colour or use it to ambush other villains )
has a habit of blowing soap bubbles
really likes cats and is sorta best friends with spidercat
though her personality is being cheerful and childlike in reality shes still suffering with her mistakes and fear of loosing her loved ones and failing to save everything making her feel like her shoulders are gonna break from the weigh she carries around
has a problem with being too kind even in battle with a villain she always says sorry when they get injured feeling pity
really likes siomay springrolls and orange juice
most of the time she paints her uncle and step sister so she wouldnt forget them

I feel like there’s always been a lot of “what-if” questions with KnY, but the biggest one for me is What if Muzan never became a demon? Either by the doctor having successfully curing his illness without demonifying him or if he died early as expected, how would that have changed the course of the character’s history?
HAPPY ENDS FOR EVERYONE BUT KIBUTSUJI MUZAN!!!
--His wives are free from his abuse, the doctor is sad he failed but he goes on to treat many good people, the Ubuyashiki mission-oriented branch of their noble clan doesn't even go on to exist because they just go along their normal merry noble way.
--Tamayo does wind up dying from her illness, but peacefully surrounded by her beloved family. Yushiro later dies, but more pissed off about it.
--Yoriichi and Uta live happily ever after. The Kamados move into an abandoned house down the road and their descendants are fruitful and forever happy neighbors. There was one time when Yoriichi was away looking for a midwife that Uta was almost killed by a wild animal, but a swordsman out there in the quiet of nature practicing his family's flame inspired sword techniques saves her, and he and his family also also become good friends of the Mt. Kumotori simple folk.
--Michikatsu goes on to have an illustrious samurai career and have illustrious descendents. Muichiro and Yuichiro therefore live in the city and go to a fancy private school where they are popular geniuses. It goes to their heads sometimes, though.
--Douma eventually dies an old cult leader without many complaints. Hakuji committed terrible acts, but he was then adopted by a new master, a swordman named Rengoku, who guided him in doing the work to amend his ways. Lots of very angry meditation before Hakuji ever finds enough peace with himself to enjoy gardening and tending koi ponds again.
--Gyutaro and Daki do indeed meet a sad end, but they meet a hypnotist who at least lets them see happy dreams as they die. They get reincarnated into kinder circumstances, albeit Gyutaro always feels a lot of jealousy for people who have things better than him and he'll probably bring about his own downfall again unless Ume steps in and stops him, because she knows he's kinder than that.
--Himejima has a happy family life with his orphans, and remains skin and bones. He eventually had to kick Kaigaku out for causing trouble, though. Himejima cried a lot over having the do that.
--Kaigaku is adopted by an old man who takes him in to train him in... say... electricity. Yes, Jiichan is now the Japanese Nicola Tesla and wants to make Kaigaku into a brilliant scientist. He recruits Zenitsu for the same task and Kaigaku is jealous. Zenitsu gets zapped in the lab.
--Urokodaki was a regular Edo ronin. After the Meiji Restoration, he started an orphanage. Makomo still lives there happily, Sabito has grown up and, uh, joined the military. Because Giyuu is so influenced by his childhood friend he winds up doing the same. Tsutako is happily married.
--Inosuke's out there doing his forest thing but eventually finds himself on the neighboring mountain making friends with the Tsugikuni and Kamado kids. This was after a brief stint being adopted by Himejima, but Himejima was too weak-willed in nicely asking Inosuke to behave, and he was heartbroken with worry when Inosuke wandered off. He saw Inosuke more like a stray cat than a human child.
--The Kochou girls attend a fancy school, Kanae has lots of offers for marriage but Shinobu is disinterested. They came across a girl on a bridge who was getting taken into slavery and brought her home. Aoi, having been sent away from her family home to do domestic work so as to earn money for her family (as was common in the day), works in the Kochou home. Kiyo, Sumi, and Naho happily grow up in their own families and are squeamish at the sight of blood, what with the lack of having to be exposed to it.
--Mitsuri's family takes a vacation out for an island holiday. Mitsuri was hoping for a romantic encounter but finds it odd that there are so many women. While starving herself and she gets dizzy and wanders off and gets hopelessly lost until she encounters a boy with a snake around his shoulders and two different eye colors, in a total separate part of the vacation mansion. He's alarmed that she's so faint and gives her the rich food he didn't have the stomach to touch, she comes back to life and cheerfully thanks him, and then they start chatting, and she's the best thing that's ever come into his sheltered rich boy world, and they have a whirlwind romance which involves her courageously using her strength to beat off his family and free him to join her on the mainland so that they can live happily ever after.
--Uzui and wives become vigilantes. Flamboyant vigilantes. Uzui leans into this personality and the newspaper are always filled with the latest exploits of that mysteriously flamboyant man, taking down corrupt officials and beating up criminals in back alleys. Nezuko is a huge fan and on a long awaited and saved-up for trip to try to meet him, she finds herself in trouble (it's easy to get disoriented in the big city, after all), and Zenitsu comes to her rescue and tazors the perps. It's love at first sight for both of them, and they start a long-distance letter writing relationship. Tanjiro is concerned that this boy Nezuko is writing to might be embellishing things.
--Life's been a lot better for the Shinazugawas since their pops got stabbed. The children have all started earning money once they're old enough, but Sanemi wants them to continue their educations, so he joins the military. He winds up getting in fights with Giyuu and Sabito but eventually they all become friends. Genya eventually tries to join too once the younger kids need less care and looking after, but Sanemi doesn't take kindly to that. Kanae becomes a volunteer nurse in the military and meets them all this way.
--In case it's not clear, the Rengoku family maintains the generations of bonds so Kyojuro and Senjuro and Shinjuro pay regular visit to Mt. Kumotori. Kyojuro teaches Tanjiro kendo.
--One day Tanjiro is strolling around the mountain and he sees mysterious blue spider lilies. "Those are nice," he says, and then no one ever pays a second thought to the flowers ever again.

7for the nonverbal meme :)
It felt forbidden.
Heart wrenching wails of what could only be called despair, white hot rage aimed at the world seemed to mute out everything in the area. One foot slid outward, one step, another, Yuichiro crossed the bridge between himself, one hand held up to keep the other kakushi which trailed behind him. A silent order to them to keep looking after the injured passengers, stay back allow him space to handle this.
Seconds stretch on for eternity. But he was there, stood tall, ethereal teal gaze focused on the broken child before him. Out of the three, the older mist hashira remains focus on the screaming, broken sobs of the boar. A sullen neutral expression finally broke into a visible look of painful sorrowful concern.
“…..dumb wild boar…?” an endearing insult given to Inosuke from simpler yet painful times. Daybreak had come, the battle won, and the flame Hashira sat dead not a few feet away from the trio..
He only gave Kyojuro a grateful nod of reverence, that broken aching in his own chest clawed for tears to come. But tragedy, for yuichiro, was something he had come to be.. comfortable around. Enough to keep his own emotions in check, to focus on the living.
“…..I’m here.”
How long had it been since he’d seen the other? Years. It had been years. Perhaps the boar no longer knew his voice. Or recognized his scent. Hell. For all he knew, maybe inosuke also thought him dead, or didn’t remember him at all, like Muichiro. His hand reach outward, only to hesitate, then fall to his side.
Was it better to walk away? Did he still hold scorn? Would Inosuke still…?
His heart couldn’t take it. The screams were too raw, too painful. Before his thoughts could stop him, the ‘mean twin’ had fallen to insuke’s side, pulled the far more muscular frame into his embrace. Despite his small stature, the older of the two had been buried in his chest, his only remaining arm held him in a tight embrace with his cheek pressed to the top of his hide and just held him there. He didn’t offer him warm words that would only ring hollow in the face of such grief. Only held him. The same way he was held by his father when his mother passed. The same way he held muichiro when they became orphans. The same way he held his dear, precious little brother, the day he woke up from that horrible night which stole Muichiro’s memories.

Short (okay, not very short) yaps on Demon Slayer characters as actors in modern day.
KAMABOKO SQUAD
TANJIRO is a child actor thanks to his father's fame in his role in Hinokami Kagura III who mostly just played cameos until he landed his role in the series Demon Slayer. Same like canon Tanjiro he's quite the sunshine boy, the sort who'd buy Starbucks for everyone on set and donate at least 60% of his income to charity. His social media is usually more of photos with his siblings or friends on set than actual movie advertising. After the series ended of course he chose to take the iconic green and black checkered haori.
NEZUKO too is a child actor alongside her brother but received a few more important roles due to her cuteness factor, like the mob boss's daughter or the orphaned girl. Has joined a few musicals before with her amazingly sweet singing but ultimately decided she preferred just acting. However Demon Slayer was her first major role; Nezuko likes to take off the bamboo muzzle and pretend to snap at the camera in the bloopers. Tabloids have been gossiping about her and Agatsuma after being spotted at a park together.
INOSUKE was originally just a prodigy break dancer at the studio his single mom Kotoha and grandmother worked at, thanks to his extraordinary flexibility. His first roles were just dancers in musicals but never actually spoke or sang - he was a little self conscious about how deep and scratchy his voice sounded and how oddly feminine his face was, until Ubuyashiki Movies scouted him out formerly to be a demon, but after watching his audition decided he was perfect for the role of the Beast Breathing Slayer. Off screen Inosuke is still a messy eater but surprisingly his language is pretty refined and not so blunt and brutish.
ZENITSU first auditioned for the remake of Lightning, the movie his grandfather Jigoro played a side role in, hoping to impress a girl, but unluckily and luckily he shockingly scored the role and lost the girl. Kaigaku, his already famous foster brother, wasn't too happy about it, especially when they ended up Lightning's sequel, Thunder. Later on he joined the Demon Slayer series - Zenitsu was a little put off at having to bleach his hair but after Nezuko said he looked cool he became a little too eager about it. Real life Zenitsu is still obsessed with girls, something the magazines make a headline of every time.
KANAO played minor roles unlike her sisters, due to her shyness and fear she wouldn't be as expressive. When the other two Kocho girls joined Demon Slayer she decided to audition for a background slayer, but when the director Kagaya saw her ability to play the super silent swordswoman to perfection she was cast at once. Not as obsessed with coins as she is on screen, Kanao still did have to have Tanjiro make the first move. The only pictures she has online are usually blurry back ones or with her face scribbled out.
GENYA is no stranger to the screen as he often plays a small role in his elder brother's gangster shows. His first show was Windbreaker and when they needed someone to play Sanemi's left hand man his brother immediately pushed him to sign up; with his deep voice and build he was quickly cast. Genya liked the Mohawk he has to get from that show so much he made it his trademark style, although some directors decided to not fast him after he refused to grow it out. Off screen of Demon Slayer, he apologizes a lot for the yelling and is still really shy around girls.
HASHIRA
RENGOKU is a very renowned actor, his father being a notable name in the movie world, but not really for his movie - more for the numerous bloopers of the directors having to retake a scene because he couldn't stop himself from laughing out loud. He's the sort who would personally respond to fans and boisterously gets along with everyone on set with a slap on the back and yelled encouragement. Just like his character he's very vocal about his thoughts, although after he picked up the habit of yelling 'UMAI!' everybody started sitting a little further away during meals. Was very excited to have the signature red and yellow hair and was slightly disappointed to find out he would be wearing a wig instead. Could not take the fight scene with Akaza seriously at all and to this day Tengen and him still act out his death scene in front of reporters.
GIYUU started learning to act under the famed but retired drama teacher Urokondaki. He is rather quiet compared to the other actors on set but he's definitely surprisingly more sociable and alive; his complete 180 in personality always startles everyone else. Because he usually gets a smaller role compared to Sabito and Makomo, everyone including him was shocked when he landed the role of the Water Pillar. More than once has stolen the director's megaphone to bark orders like "Hit it like you mean it! Call yourself a slayer?!" at the actors. In the water effects of his scenes, you can be sure he and Sabito are running around using the hoses and sprays to squirt at everyone - Shinobu really gets into character when she gets hit.
TENGEN is so famous for so many things it's hard to start: his flamboyance, his good looks and three wives. Not surprisingly he always gets the main roles in movies like Nine Shinobi. However underneath his flashy exterior Tengen has been cut off from his wealthy father's fortune who opted to give it to his younger brother due to their disapproval of him pursuing a career in the silver screens. Tengen being "angry" in the Demon Slayer scenes was honestly just realistic because he was dying from laughter - yelling and turning red is surprisingly easy like that. Sometimes in public Suma, Makio and Hinatsuru will yell "Tengen-sama!" and cling to him in order to embarrass him but to their annoyance he plays along.
MITSURI is definitely a fan favorite amongst all and every gender for her bubbly, exuberant personality and pretty looks. Real life Mitsuri isn't as giggly as the characters in every love drama series she plays, but definitely her pursuit in romance was inspired by those on screen. She's very supportive in her siblings career in acting too, even if they're just playing supporting child roles for now. Mitsuri hasn't found Mr. Right yet though, due to many people simply wanting to date her for her fame or money - although rumours are going around of chemistry between her and one fellow Pillar actor on the set of Demon Slayer.
SHINOBU started acting background roles in Kanae's movies, until Ubuyashiki Movies realized her snarky personality fit the Insect Pillar a little too well - especially with her rather intimidating smile reserved for the press. Off screen Shinobu is more playful than actual cutting, sarcastic remarks, but boy do you not want to get on her bad side - once an obsessive fan started stalking Kanae and Shinobu publicly cussed him out so bad in an interview the whole thing had to be censored. On the set of Demon Slayer she enjoys whacking people who forgot their lines with the flat of her blade.
OBANAI is one of the most mysterious celebrities as off screen literally no one can identify him anywhere, even if his only disguise is wearing a black face mask. He's pretty famous for his roles in crime or mystery films, so Demon Slayer was a surprise for everyone. His makeup is pretty excessive even compared to those like the demons, and often times they had to redo zoom in shots because he's blinking too much. Ironically Obanai was previously mildly afraid of snakes but after acting with Kaburamaru he decided to adopt the lil' fella and take him back home along with the haori. His acting with Mitsuri was not faked: he really is whipped for the actress from the start.
GYOMEI is the most unserious of the lot off screen, and it got worse when he got the blind Pillar's part, frequently walking up to people and saying really bad jokes like "how do I look? I can't see for myself". One of the oldest actors on set, a lot of people look up to Gyomei for acting tips and support due to his long experience in all sorts of genres and movies. People who hadn't seen his previous films and only know him as the blind character will be taken advantage of - he simply stares in the wrong direction and acts like he can't see the nosy reporter attempting to stick the mic up his immense height.
MUICHIRO was actually cast because of how popular he was as a child actor; together with his twin Yuichiro they played all sorts of roles from the identical ghosts in horror movies to the child hero with a power of splitting himself in two. Many fans sent letter after letter or voted on social media that he should play the foggy headed Mist Pillar. It took a while since he had to grow out his hair and dye it, but when he finally made his appearance everyone went feral. Muichiro has photobombed so many scenes and photos blowing raspberries to the point it's everywhere in the bloopers. He actually cried when Yuichiro "died" because no one told him it would be shot that gruesomely - his reaction was a 100% genuinely real.
SANEMI had done a lot of makeup and sacrificed a lot of things for his roles in every mafia movie where he'd always be cast as the mad dog: bleach his hair white, paint on scars, go on a diet and crazy workout plan to get those muscles, but having to shave his eyebrows took the cake. The first video of Demon Slayer wasn't the trailer - it was the video of him recording it. Off screen Sanemi isn't that screamy or hot tempered; that's just for show in interviews or reporters. His social media is spammed with photos of him and Genya or other actors on set. An excellent (albeit pestering) wingman, he even carried Obanai on his shoulders so that he could be tall enough to kabedon Mitsuri in a viral video.
DEMONS
KOKUSHIBO was a star from the start, usually taking the same roles as his twin Yoriichi. But in the end he got tired of being in his brother's shadow and have everyone confuse them for only one Tsugikuni so he joined Samurai of the Moon alone and that was how he made his name on screen. Contrary to his parts Kokushibo is pretty verbal and sarcastic. The few times he appreciates having a twin is when he can let Yoriichi deal with the fans who think there's only one of them and slip away unnoticed with just sunglasses as his disguise. Was very supportive when Muichiro and Yuichiro began acting but secretly worried they would encounter the same problem as him.
DOUMA was famous from the moment he was born because of his actor parents' infamous divorce. He only really rose to fame after his acting in Eternal Paradise, a movie about a cannibal pretending to be a cultist. Douma is pretty flirty even off screen (causing Kibutsuji Productions to threaten to fire him several times if he made another scandal, especially around Shinobu Kocho) but if his lines require him to say anything inappropriate about women on screen he actually is pretty apologetic about it afterwards...in a carefree manner, of course. His favourite part of his costume is the rainbow irises and wears it even in interviews - some people actually believe those ARE his eyes.
AKAZA was just an ordinary martial arts student until Kibutsuji Productions came looking for someone able to act and attack in their mobster movie Three. Many of his photos include him with his signature tattoos, but they're actually fake; only his reddish pink hair is not. Starred alongside Rengoku in a sitcom Donuts about two rival chefs and Basketball Flame about a wannabe player. Both were delighted to work together in Demon Slayer but he hasn't stopped harassing Rengoku about becoming a demon yet. Akaza refuses to do any intimate scenes with other women that aren't his fiancée Koyuki so they had to hire her.
HANTENGU is an actor famous for his role in The Old Tell No Lies and his skill to cry and sob on demand until his untimely end from a concussion at a failed stunt. Thankfully his grandsons the quadruplets and Zohakuten are still continuing his legacy, moving quickly from the greatly watched Clones to the up and coming Demon Slayer. No one's figured out their secret to acting is simply because they're really bickering amongst themselves. Not acting.
GYOKKO is someone not so much famous for his roles than his flashiness in fashion at every year's Kizuki Gala with eye popping makeup and designer clothes. He enjoys pottery in his free time and some of the pieces you see on set are actually his own works. Since he isn't a fish in real life, in Demon Slayer he's mainly voice acting while the body is CGI. He actually gets along pretty well with the Tokito twins, taking them out for meals sometimes but honestly, they couldn't have possibly taken his eyeshadow, right?
GYUTARO in his humble beginnings was just a stunt double in heavy makeup for action movies, because of his skill and complete fearlessness and was too afraid of auditioning independently due to his insecurities about his birthmarks and face. He started as a double for the main character in Poison Sickle, but when Kibutsuji Productions heard his voice and saw his attitude they decided to completely just cast him as the main character, a hardened apocalypse survivor of coarse language attempting to kill all who gets in his way with his sickle. He played it so realistically although Daki encouraged him at first even she was honestly a little freaked.
DAKI was like Nezuko although scoring bigger roles. Her prettiness managed to land her in many movies, although nothing major until her playing in the princess-assassin movie Warabihime secured a role for her in Demon Slayer. Off screen, Daki isn't as insulting or biased on beauty, getting along with the other girls on set pretty well and insisting Gyutaro pay for whatever crazy shopping spree they had gone on. She loves to do her own makeup, so good they don't even need to hire an artist for her. Daki won't join a movie if Gyutaro isn't in it too or acting at the same time.
ENMU isn't as delusional and obsessive as the characters he enjoys playing on screen, but he does often like to mess with others on set by proclaiming he'd love to die by their hand or offering his blood. Newspapers enjoy speculating why he has always refused to take any other method of transportation save trains but the real reason is that he's really filming another movie alongside Demon Slayer, the thriller Subway. Nonetheless Enmu's social media, despite his publicist's frustrations, is spammed with pictures of trains. He's mentioned in an interview he likes his character's haircut in Demon Slayer so much he's considering keeping it.
RUI too is a child actor, but he mostly plays the sickly child in advertisements or hospitals due to his weirdly pale skin. Rui's odd fascination with arachnids (something his fans are crazy over) began after he landed a main role in Spider Family, which was why with his parents' encouragement he auditioned to play of the minor demons on Mt. Natagumo but much to their delight he instead go the lead. He likes to play around with the other actors and more than once anyone caught napping will wake to Rui's makeup scheme plastered on their faces.

Headcanons for Gyu and Ume in Kimetsu Academy AU
kimetsu academy or modern world same thing
okay first of all, douma's gonna their step father, he's the one who save them? then this life he gonna save them by being their parent (let's pretend they're an orphan🤚)
gyutaro would have friends, ofc people mag considering him as ugly due to where they live and many things but in present time he definitely be one of the normal people, at least people gonna treated him as more human being
idk if his work as dept collector is a good or bad thing, but it's legal right? at first he'll live normally like a student, don't have to work for anything, but when he's in college he may find a legal part time job, since he want his history to be clean
I don't think he gonna do drug, he may interest in it at first bc of curiosity but he do smoke ig
ume is pretty and in kimetsu academy many boys send her their confessions, but what about girls
idk but she's not a type of pretty girl who like to hang out with boys, she like to hang out with girls, she's a mean girl (*cough* bc gyu and douma who like to spoiled her *cough*)😭 and gyu won't let a man be near his lovely sis too
many people have crush on ume but don't have confidence to give it to her by themselves so they gave it to gyu instead (how)
this happened too many times BUT there's also have someone who have crush on gyu and give him the love confession too (and that person it's me) but he misunderstood for ume and give it to her (she give it back to him later but gyu take it's as a prank)
gyu would work as delivery guy bc he know how to ride a bike🧍‍♀️ and when he send their parcel/food he don't have to take off his helmet so they can't see his face… 😔
I forgot this one, so douma adopted him and ume and douma remarried with kotoha and inosuke live with them too (this is my hc don't take it too serious)
sometimes tanjiro and zenitsu will come to play in their house, zen really likes ume but he scared of her brother and how mean she is
gyu don't like tanjiro, he always mean to him, but tanjiro never mad at him until gyu started to talk sh!t about nezuko to provoke tan😭🤚
gyu like emo punk/rock, ume and douma like j-pop and girl group, I also hc daki as sm gg stan (which I'll do hc about demons music taste later)
from what I mentioned above, why douma and ume like girl group, douma actually enjoy various genre, I can see him enjoying britney spears and lady gaga songs, or j-pop like gardinelia
for ume, it's kinda weird reasons, she likes pretty girls, gives off sm stan vibe and sapphic vibe… I can even named her bias in each group and yk, I'm sorry to assume but I saw many sone girls come out as sapphic and this really fits ume
a lot of scenarios like to write for ume to be jealous of reader if reader pretty than her, if in original story then ume would eat them but in modern world I don't think she gonna hate them because
1.ume very confident, she knows she's charming and don't have to worry about anything, people still gonna come back to her
2.ume didn't eat them bc she's jealous of pretty people and wanna get rid of them, if that's so, she would do it at first place
3.it's confirmed she hate ugly people, and don't even wanna eat to power up
ume wanna friends with pretty girls and she's kind of protective friend💪 she knows how to fight in verbally and physically (or just call gyu, magic word : onii-chan!!!)
she may have many friends, and her close friend group, but if any of them talk bad about her brother then boom, goodbye you're not my friend now and she don't even hesitate to do so
in original story, ume original hair color is white, gyu is black, but in modern world they both would have black hair but dyed it layer, ume dye it white and gyu dye it green and wears beret hat heheh❤️
this one is canon!! gyu want his sister to have better life, and when they arguing he said about his better life without her, I see it as gyu overprotective to his sister but NOT OBSESSIVE and don't make it to be in any gross or creepy way!
if he has a chance he definitely have a lover and live his life, not following his sister everywhere, but if ume have a lover then he gonna approve them first, she's innocent and nice girl, this is why he scared
Notes: this is all I can think of now, I may write for part 2 in the future or other kimetsu academy/modern au, I'm sorry if there's any grammatical issues, english is not my native language and I know I use to many 'like' 🥲
lmk if you have any opinion about them!!

Favorite Fall Activities
| Masterlist |
Tanjiro:
Both of you love growing things, and so fall is the season for you both to reap what you've down (literally). Tanjiro especially loves the recipes you have for some fall favorites, including pumpkin soup.
Nezuko:
Ever since you were young, you'd had the hobby of pressing especially pretty leaves. Come the fall season, you had a large sample size to choose from. Nezuko usually sits beside you at night while you look through the fiery-golden leaves, helping you choose which ones to press.
Zenitsu:
Zenitsu got you into the habit of raking up leaves from one of the big trees at your home, but it usually devolves into the two of you making a big pile and jumping into it, giggling like children.
Inosuke:
Two words: Fall food. Inosuke loves it when you take him out to the street vendors so that you can both look through and try different fall dishes. His current favorite is the udon with grated yam and slices of roasted chestnuts.
Giyuu:
Giyuu loves sitting with you beside the fire, just reading or basking in each other's company. It's a far cry from the usual bustle of pillar life, and it feels nice to just take time to be with each other on crisp nights.
Kyojuro:
Kyojuro loves it when you hang out with him and his family at his estate. Senjuro is always so excited to see you, and it soon devolves into you helping him with his chores and playing with him (or perhaps sneaking in some meditation or lessons in your Breath style). It just gives him a happy glow to see you getting along with even his crochety old father (Shinjuro would never admit it, but he enjoys your company too).
Muichiro:
Even though it's more of a chore than anything, he appreciates it when you split wood with him. You're so graceful as you wield the axe, he often takes time just to stare at you. If you catch him, he just smiles, making your cheeks heat up.
Shinobu:
She enjoys it when you go with her to find rare herbs and extracts. Sure, you can do this in any season, but the fall is especially beautiful and peaceful; some of your best dates have been while you two walk through the forest, admiring the colors of the leaves and inspecting mushrooms.
Gyomei:
Sitting alone with him on fall nights, talking late into the night and sipping tea is what he enjoys most. The two of you share roasted, spiced apples and just... talk about whatever comes up. The future, about the state of things, even about your pasts. It's a quiet serenity that just feels like him.
Sanemi:
He would never publicly admit it, but he likes going apple picking with you. There's an orchard in the nearby village that he likes to go to that he'll take you to. The two of you make a day of it, picking as much as you want (and allowing him to show off how high he can reach, allowing you to get a glimpse of his skin as his shirt rides up).
Akaza:
On especially cool fall nights, you might sit outside, light a fire in your pit, and wait for Akaza. He almost always shows up, ready to sit at your side and just watch the flickers of ash reach for the sky. Even though he doesn't eat human food to survive, you still offer him roasted meat (you have your own) to eat with you.
Douma:
Sometimes on pretty fall days, you'll bring your orphans in to see Douma. You'll share whatever you've got on you; sometimes it's roasted meat, sometimes it's an extra jug of blood (disguised as red wine so your kids won't be too curious), sometimes it's fragrant pouches of spice to decorate his main room. He doesn't mind your kids, though he loves it when you come to him with presents.
Kokushibo:
He doesn't mind it when you sit with him on rooftops, gazing up at the moon and stars. You'll sit there, running your hands through his hair and talking softly about things. He doesn't mind affection as long as you're alone, and even accepts forehead kisses from you. He'll preen at your praises of how handsome he is, though he'd probably never tell you outright.
Muzan:
Muzan (as a woman) often accompanies you to small night festivals dressed in the most beautiful fall kimonos, lips painted that same cherry red. Sometimes you feel that s(he) outshines you, but he's quick to reassure you that his eyes don't wander; if anything, you should be lucky that he's paying attention at all (his words, not yours). He'll buy you something like a pretty kanzashi to wear in your hair and watch over you, painted hand clasped tightly in yours.
Yoriichi:
He loves taking long walks through the woods with you, hand-in-hand. Sometimes you'll stop in a particularly scenic location and sit together with a snack or two before returning to your home, but he just loves being with you and watching the colors with you.

Questions and answers below the cut.
1: S&TF Inosuke, how did you meet the Kochou sisters? How do you feel about them and other members of your family?
Kanae found me with my boar family. She was on a mission, and picked me up. I was the first of many. Seems like Kanae's nack for picking up orphans became a habit.
Not that I mind. Kiyo, Sumi, and Naho are all great. Shinobu and Kanae taught me how to read and write, and they both remind me of this really pretty lady.
2: S&TF Zenitsu and Kanao, how did you meet and end up adopted by the Kamado family?
Tanjirou's really weird, but like a good weird! We sparred all the time, but I could never sense his attacks like I can everyone else's! Plus his reflexes are insane! He's gonna be a Hashira in no time!
Oh, I think there's been some sort of mix-up. We weren't adopted by the Kamado family, they're just close friends. We met Tanjurou in town when we first got to the village by Mount Kumotori, and he introduced us to his family after we got settled and adopted.
Mhm!
As for how we met, it's a pretty easy story. I ran away from home to get away from my parents. You can only take so many beatings before it's too much. So I ran until I couldn't anymore. That's when Zenitsu found me, and we've been attached at the hip ever since!
3: To the S&TF Uzui family, how do you feel about Nezuko and where did you find her?
Hm hm!
We found her running from the Yoshiwara Entertainment District like a demon was on her tail. Poor girl was terrified because she'd attacked a customer, even if in self defense, and was told another girl got burnt to a crisp for taking out an eye. We took her in after that, and she's lived with us for the last two years. Both to protect her from whatever repercussions she was so scared of, and to get her out of that place. She's a great girl. I couldn't ask for a more flamboyant tsuguko and kid.
Well, if she blew less things up, that'd be great. But other than her... tendencies around fire, she's a good kid. *Under breath* Still can't believe we had to make a list...
We're all so proud of her! Even if we wish she could have stayed behind and had even a slightly normal childhood. You know, do things normal teenage girls do!
4. To S&TF Sanemi and Kanae, how did you run into Upper Moon Two, and how did it go?
I agree. Nezuko is a remarkable girl, and is becoming an excellent Slayer and young woman. We all look forward to seeing where she goes.
Well, I was initially going alone. Several women had been disappearing from the area, so I was supposed to investigate.
I insisted on going with her. I'm glad I did. I don't want to think about what would have happened to her if I didn't. ... All the scars I got from that fight were worth it. My blood served as a pretty damn good distraction, so its hits weren't as hard as they could've been.
I'm just glad you survived. Your injuries were awful, it's a miracle you didn't get an infection before Shinobu and the Kakushi arrived!
All that matters is we both got out alive. And, in a twisted way, those injuries ended up being... not the worst thing. Given it helped me reconnect with someone.
I don't doubt that Genya's grateful, too.

Sanekihiko my beloveds😭😭
i love these two and the way you write them, hoping there's more hcs or drabbles of them to come
i keep thinking abt how Akihiko would've loved Genya, and the Higuchi family meeting Sanemi
my brain with ideas is like spotting a squirrel in a city. not impossible, but sometimes it can be hard to find one. but sanekihiko are so so dear to me and it's a travesty that i never got a chance to explain about them more in fits canon! i love writing them - and also akihiko and ayame interactions.
anyways, this is part of an every sibling lives au that still ends up with the main squad being demon slayers
AKIHIKO LOVES GENYA
- "You have a little brother," Akihiko says, almost accusingly.
Sanemi grunts, eyes still closed. He thought he was going to have a nice nap before Akihiko arrived, but clearly his boyfriend was not going to let that happen.
"Don't know what you're talking about," mutters Sanemi.
If he doesn't look at the problem (Akihiko), then he doesn't have to deal with the problem.
"Shinazugawa Genya! Kanae just told me." A pause. "Does this mean I have a little brother?"
"You have five sisters."
"Don't change the subject!"
The fact that Akihiko even thinks it's a subject change means he's aware of how much he loves to babble about his sisters. Damn it. Who told him?
It was probably Tomioka. Or Murata. Those assholes.
Sanemi shifts from where he's seated at the base of the wisteria tree on the grounds of the Wind Estate. Akihiko takes it for what it is and throws himself into the spot made for him. Even without looking, Sanemi knows Akihiko has his cheeks puffed out in indignation.
He reaches up and squeezes a soft cheek between his fingers. Akihiko yelps, but doesn't pull away.
"I killed my mother," Sanemi says seriously.
"I know that," Akihiko lisps. "What, you think Genya-kun still blames you for it?"
"He should."
"But does he?"
How the hell would Sanemi know? He doesn't want anything to do with his eldest younger brother. It's bad enough that Himejima has to look after the rest of his orphaned younger siblings. Why couldn't Genya have been like the others and just stayed normal? It's the least he could've done for Sanemi's sake.
"I'm going to say hi to him," Akihiko decides.
Sanemi swiftly changes his hold on Akihiko so the younger man is squished against his chest instead. Akihiko makes a faint noise of offense, but doesn't pull away.
"Leave him alone," Sanemi grumbles, finally cracking an eye open. All he can see is Akihiko's unruly hair as he finds the best way to settle against Sanemi's chest. "Just let him do it on his own."
Akihiko's simmering silence is enough for Sanemi to know that he won't leave Genya alone.
Seriously, why did he have to end up dating the one guy with a sibling complex? He's so fucking annoying.
- "Genya!"
Akihiko is determined to make nice with Sanemi's little brother. Sanemi is a crotchety old bastard who always skirts around any topic of his family likenit's a plague that should never be mentioned.
What a hypocrite.
He'll listen to Akihiko and Kanae gush about their younger sisters, and maybe he'll even chime in a thing or two about his own, but he's stubbornly tight-lipped about his brothers. Not just Genya, but also Hiroshi, Koto and Shuuya. It's a miracle they even got their names out of him.
Ayame and Genya both turn towards him.
Akihiko's polite smile widens into a grin.
Would you look at that? Ayame's making friends!
Of course, Ayame has plenty of friends, but she only ever lets him talk to Tanjirou, Zenitsu and Inosuke. She's very secretive about any other friends she might have met, insisting that she doesn't have any.
He knows his eldest younger sister can be taciturn and a bit of a loner, but he doubts she's as solitary as she wants him to believe. Ayame can be very bubbly in the right circumstances.
"Niichan," Ayame sighs with a hint of exasperation. "What do you want with Genya-kun?"
Areh. She uses a suffix with Genya. How cute! She doesn't do that with Tanjirou, Zenitsu or Inosuke.
His sharp eyes pick out the way she angles herself so she's standing between Akihiko and Genya protectively. She even reaches out to pull Genya a little behind her, even if Sanemi's little brother towers over her. Somehow or another, Genya has earned the right to be under her circle of protection. Now that is something special.
Akihiko tempers his grin and addresses Ayame first.
"A guy needs a reason to get to know his fellow Kisatsutai members better?" Akihiko answers evasively. "And how have you been, Aya-hime?"
"Ayame," she snaps, lips twitching to fight off a frown. "I'm not ten years old anymore, Niichan."
Genya lets out a faint questioning sound that he quickly swallows when Akihiko's gaze snaps to him.
"Niichan," Ayame says warningly.
Honestly, Akihiko won't let anyone talk to him that way. He's Giyuu's tsuguko, so he's used to the amount of respect and deference that title is awarded him. It doesn't hurt that his girlfriend and boyfriend are also Hashiras, but he likes to think that's a separate thing entirely.
Akihiko clasps his hands politely behind his back. "Introduce me to your friend, Ayame."
Ayame rolls her eyes. He's pretty sure she learned that from Shinobu-chan, because Rengoku-san would never treat others like that. He isn't even sure if Rengoku-san knows how to make such a disrespectful expression.
"Niichan, Genya. Genya, this is my Oniichan, Higuchi Akihiko."
Genya bows, mumbling a greeting. Akihiko can't help but beam.
He's so polite! Akihiko almost can't believe Sanemi raised him.
Ayame stomps on his foot.
"I should go," Genya says politely, leaning down so he can keep his voice quiet while he speaks to Ayame. "I need to see Kanae-sama."
Ayame blinks, then offers Genya a small smile. "Right. Don't let Niichan keep you. I'll see you around, Genya-kun."
"Mn. See you, Ayame."
Ayame's hand clamped around Akihiko's upper arm is the main reason why Akihiko doesn't go scurrying after Genya. He can't even find out why Genya is seeing Kanae; she's all about doctor-patient confidentiality, and he doubts Genya is seeing her for social reasons.
When he tears his gaze from Genya's retreating back, he's met with Ayame's grumpy frown.
"I can't go three seconds without you barging in on me talking to a friend?" she demands.
Akihiko analyses what he just saw.
Ayame and Genya were talking. Genya's body was utterly relaxed up to the point Akihiko invaded their conversation. There was a faint blush on his cheeks when Ayame stood in front of him. He was very careful to lower himself as much as his large bulk allowed so Ayame didn't feel too small.
Akihiko hums. "Just a friend?"
A scowl blooms on her face. "What's with that tone? I can have friends. You've met them!"
He hums again.
Ayame can have friends. She has the ability to be precocious when she isn't being grumpy. Zenitsu and Inosuke are definitely her friends, and there's been something strange brewing between her and Tanjirou for a while now. Then again, they've known each other for years, so that's something else entirely.
"Stop that," she orders, swatting his hand away when he tries to ruffle her hair. "Whatever it is you have to say, just spit it out."
"I just wonder what Tanjirou has to say about this, that's all."
It seems like Genya has a little crush.
On his sister.
Pink is smattered high on Ayame's cheekbones. "Why are you bringing Tanjirou into this? You're being all weird about him again."
Akihiko gives her a knowing look.
His sister notices everything that goes on. There's no way she misses the fond look in Tanjirou's eyes that he reserves just for her. It's a little beyond friendship, even if they both boldly declare that's all they have.
Akihiko isn't an idiot. He's sure Ayame isn't either.
She harrumphs. "If you must know, Tanjirou's the one who says I should try and talk to Genya-kun. That's all." As an afterthought, she adds, "What I do with my free time is no one else's business."
Especially yours, Niichan.
Ara ara, Ayame is so touchy. This must be a consequence of puberty. But then again, she's always been a little more secretive since she joined the Kisatsutai. Some days, he misses his little sister who used to look at him like he hung the stars in the sky. Now that they're both Demon Slayers, she's more aware of who he is as a person. It might also have something to do with the fact that she's a strong candidate for being Rengoku-san's tsuguko. In a few months, they might share the same title - even if under different Hashiras.
"Alright," Akihiko acquiesces, holding his hands up in surrender. "I'm glad you're expanding your social circle, that's all. A girl your age should have plenty of friends."
Ayame's eyes narrow suspiciously.
She can squint at him all she likes, but he's being genuine. It's clear that Genya needs a friend, and he could do worse than Ayame.
HIGUCHI FAMILY MEETS SANEMI
- Damn it. He should have known. Sanemi should have damn well known.
It wasn't a coincidence that Akihiko looked for him after they completed their missions. They're both further north than usual, and Akihiko has been complaining that he misses his younger sisters. He sees plenty of Ayame, of course, but he has more sisters than just that one brat.
It's just a short detour, Akihiko wheedled.
Sanemi glowers at Akihiko's back as he goes to greet Ayame and Tanjirou with a tight hug.
Ayame's eyes shoot to Sanemi.
"What's he doing here?" she asks grumpily.
Tanjirou laughs nervously, shuffling on his feet. He doesn't meet Sanemi's eyes.
Good. He'd better not try and talk to him familiarly after headbutting him at the Hashira Trial. Kisatsutai members are forbidden to fight, but is one punch really a fight?
Akihiko laughs brightly. "Why else? He's never been to Okutama before!"
Sanemi knows what this is really about.
They met the rest of Sanemi's siblings last month. The kids had taken a shine to Akihiko almost immediately, and even Genya was in good spirits. Thanks to Akihiko's meddling, his relationship was getting better with Genya. Sanemi would still prefer if his eldest little brother followed a more normal and mundane life, but he only has himself to blame. No amount of injury will make Genya quit; his brother is made of stern stuff. He has to be in order to continue being a Demon Slayer despite not being able to master Total Concentration Breathing.
Sanemi still isn't happy, but he'll live with it. So long as Genya still lives.
Ayame's expression is polite, but hostile. If there's one thing Kamado Tanjirou is good at, it's distracting Ayame from how much she dislikes Sanemi. (He still doesn't owe that thick-skulled brat anything. He could take on anything Ayame chooses to throw his way.)
- The Higuchi home is still lively despite the tragedy that occurred years ago. Tanjirou had bowed out quickly, leaving for his home up the mountain to check on his younger siblings. Ayame did manage to eke out a promise that Tanjirou and his siblings would join them tomorrow for dinner before they set off for the Butterfly Estate the day after.
The first thing that greets Sanemi is the noise when the younger sisters of the Higuchi siblings realise their eldest siblings are home.
"Neechan!" two remarkably similar girls scream, diving for Ayame.
Ayame catches them, all tension in her body leaving as she listens to them babble over one another. Akihiko is similarly assaulted - the two youngest immediately swarm demanding, demanding he tell them stories of his adventures.
"Girls," a man calls out, peeking out from the forge. "Let Akihiko and Ayame take off their shoes first."
The man looks very similar to Akihiko and Ayame, although he doesn't have their blue eyes. This must be the uncle that moved back to Okutama to look after the younger siblings.
"Take-ji," Akihiko and Ayame chorus, "tadaima."
"Okaeri, Akihiko, Ayame." Curious violet eyes settle on Sanemi. "And who's this?"
"This," Akihiko tugs Sanemi's awkward figure forward, "is my boyfriend, Take-ji. Shinazugawa Sanemi."
"Ah! I've heard a lot about you! Akihiko writes about you often."
"What about Kanae-nee?" the only caramel-haired little girl demands. "What'd you do to her?"
That last question is aimed at Sanemi.
"She's my girlfriend too," answers Sanemi.
The little girl squints at him, then shrugs. "Okay."
Gods, it's a good thing children are so easy to handle.
"I want Tanjirou-san," the sister hanging off Ayame's arm declares. "That way, Neechan can have her boyfriend here too."
"Boy who's a friend," Ayame says hastily. "He's just a friend!"
More than one person snorts. Even Sanemi closes his eyes at the depths of her obliviousness.
If Tanjirou is just her friend, Sanemi will eat his own zori. No one looks at a mere friend the way those two look at each other. If Sanemi didn't know any better, he'd think Ayame thinks the sun rises just for Tanjirou.
Akihiko and Ayame's other uncle, Osamu-san, ushers them all inside for tea and dinner. It's clear that he's the one who makes sure the household functions properly.
Sanemi had forgotten what a home felt like. With the Shinazugawas, it's clear that the home Himejima-san provided for them is just a house. They're all working to pay back the old monk's kindness.
With the Higuchis, it's a home. There are various crafts littering the walls and floors, with evidence that Takehiko-san and Osamu-san are doing their best to give the younger Higuchi sisters as much normalcy as possible, even with their scars and their lack of parents. Between Akihiko and Ayame, they earn enough to keep things running and comfortable even with the forge currently out of use.
Akihiko's younger sisters - except for Ayame - hang around Sanemi like stray cats. They pester him with questions, wanting to know what life outside of their village is like. It even makes Ayame warm up to him a little, although she's more icy instead of frosty. She puts up an admirable act of civility for her younger sisters, either way.
- "They like you," Akihiko tells him when it's just the two of them.
Ayame and Tanjirou were called out to a mission before them. There were plenty of tears and whining from the four Higuchi sisters, but Tanjirou handled all of them with aplomb. It helped that his own younger siblings were there to distract the Higuchis.
Sanemi nods.
His throat feels tight.
He knows he isn't very likeable. Intimidating is a kind way of describing him.
"Do you think," he says quietly, "that I could visit again?"
He misses the feeling of a home. He thinks it would be nice if he could bring his own siblings to Okutama next time.
Akihiko smiles brilliantly. It takes Sanemi's breath away, like the first bloom of spring.
Akihiko tentatively takes his hand and squeezes. "We'd all like that very much, Sanemi."
Sanemi almost says I love you. The fond look in Akihiko's gaze tells him he already knows.

Okay guys, I'm sorry but there has been a change of plans with the therapy arc in my future hashira au, I realized that it would take forever to write so I'll have to cut it short. I'll give the basic rundown of what happens during each of their therapy sessions.
Tanjiro: ends up getting a motherly hug from Sayaki after pouring his heart out about his responsibilities and worries. He does get embarrassed about his actions later and apologizes profusely to her (Sayaki) later.
Inosuke: Was pretty tame, he tried to explain what he remembers, and Sayaki understands it to an extent, trying her best to console him when he gets incredibly heated at douma's memory. He gets slightly reminded of shinobu when he looks at Sayaki, so he brings her acorns later. Basically, the session wasn't really productive.
Giyuu: Had to be asked to clarify or get into more detail when he spoke, because he was very vague, and made incomplete statements most of the time. She (Sayaki) knew of tomioka's personality beforehand, because shinobu would mention him from time to time in her letters. Sayaki considered tomioka's company quiet lovely and offered to be his friend, which made him smile. After speaking of his life long trauma, he felt a little lighter after being assured that it wasn't his fault. So yay tomioka has a new friend now!
Murata: Since we don't know anything about his backstory, I'll just assume he was orphaned, and then joined the corps for shelter and revenge. He'll just simply talk about his trauma to which Sayaki will comfort him and ask him some questions, all in all it was a nice chat for him and he would give a short and grateful 'thank you', and then leave to go take a nap.
Senjuro: He happened to be around, so he gave the session a try, and came out sobbing, finally just talking to someone that wasn't himself about his problems. He hung on to Sayaki tightly, feeling warm comfort he was craving for. Sayaki was furious that a young child such as himself was so mature and traumatized most of his life, and offered to visit later. (she was going to give shinjiro a talking to, and was taking Tanjiro with her because he wanted in too.)
Tengen refused to get any therapy, he said "I'm too flamboyant for this! Thank you for the offer though."
The girls would also get therapy we don't discriminate.
Mitsuri: She would talk about her trauma and insecurities, wanting some comfort. She cries a few times, and was practically in Sayaki's embrace the whole time. She feels better after talking about her troubles, and letting it all out, so she invites Sayaki to come visit her family with her later. Sayaki agreed of course, and she secretly really wants to see that slow witted scumbag that rejected mitsuri because of her unique and gorgeous beauty. She really wanted to slap him. (She did when she saw him, and felt no remorse. Mitsuri was stifling laugh after seeing the whole thing, and was openly proud of her new friend's actions.
Kanao: It was very tough for kanao to be suddenly asked to open up about her emotionally scarring past, and she slowly, but surely did so. Sayaki's blood was boiling at this point from how horribly people treated the people she gave therapy to so far, and she made sure to hug all of them and treat them to their favorite dishes later. For kanao, since she came from an abusive environment, Sayaki figured she would be sensitive to loud yells and curses, so she touched up on the subject to which kanao stayed completely silent. She also asked her about her relationship with everyone and, and if she still had trouble with socializing with kids her age, to which kanao responded that she was able to make a fair amount of friends, and was glad to have them by her side. All in all, kanao was pleased to be finally able to speak about her past and just get all of it out of her chest. It was a very fulfilling session for her.
Aoi: Aoi spoke of her trauma and fear of demons, she said she passed the final selection because of luck and all of that nonsense. Sayaki was almost angry at aoi for belittling herself so much, but she understood her insecurities and issues, since they were very common, but shouldn't be normalized. Sayaki gives aoi a lecture of how great and emotionally strong she is, and that just because she didn't kill any demons that she was weak. She also told her how full of talent and life aoi was, and that we just need to go on living. Aoi was so grateful, and even though she heard those words from tanjiro already, hearing them again assured her they weren't made up lies and pity words, which moved her to tears. After the therapy session, aoi had a firm resolve and goal in mind now, she would pick up her darn blade and get out there to avenge every single person who died in battle, she told senjuro who had agreed with her and wanted to help her too!
Nezuko: Her memories of her time as a demon were very fuzzy, but she remembers the people she lost, all the blood that was shed, and all the faces that cried. She cried and cried hugging Sayaki, begging for her family and friends back, she is only mentally 12 with the body of a 14 year old after all, she's a literal child. Sayaki ended up singing her to sleep and carrying her back to bed, promising to take care of nezuko as if she were her own.
Did I miss anyone? If so comment and let me know. Anyways, the actual story of the future hashira au starts here! Watch our main characters embark on adventures to avenge all the people who were lost along the way!

The Brothers Grimm - Story board
The Brothers Grimm - Story board
by Just A Kid Icarus (Lightningstrike5757)
“When happiness is destroyed, it is always followed by the scent of blood.”
When two orphan boys stumble upon the Kamado family household, the family take them in without question. As the years go by, the two earn their place in the household. The eldest of the two teaches Tanjirou how to fight with a sword and defend the house from wild animals and Oni. The younger of the two helped with chores and added an extra spark to the house. The two were practically family, and so when the boys went down to town for the first time, Tanjuro introduced the two as such.
“Meet Yoriichi and Muzan, my eldest son and my third son respectively.”

Non-UT! chars - there’s a /bunch/, no kidding - uhh part 1? just the N! AUs we got take up a lot of space...
DEMON SLAYER: mostly SLSTF/LSTF combined ‘whoops a large group of strange people fell into this world‘, with three main variations: ‘replace-Pillars’, ‘join-pillars’, ‘demons/Upper Moons’.  Includes the likes of the “Centipede Pillar”/”Insect Breathing” (an alternate version), “Trap Pillar”/Mist Breathing, “Lotus/Hate Pillar”/”Lotus/Hate Breathing”, “?? Pillar”/“Waterfall Breathing”... Characters: Yasude Denji (LSTF!Alphys “Nori” - Centipede Pillar), Oda Adachi (LSTF!Undyne “Oda” - creator and only user of the WATERFALL Breathing Style), Aoi Akane (LSTF!Sans “Slugger” - HATE/Lotus Hashira), Daisuke Agawa (LSTF!Papyrus “Spike” - Trap Pillar), Shinogu Kikori/"Shōri" (SLSTF!Sans “Knout” - Solitude Pillar/Breathing?)
Naruto: huu boy. P13!Naruto-verse: (name still needed for the story, P13! is a reference to a completely different something else): A story with these major change-ups: Naruto is a year above the Rookie 9/aka Lee’s generation (and consequently doesn’t know/hasn’t really interacted with the rest of Konoha 13). Naruto is not the jinchuurinki-container for the Kyuubi/Kurama - his parents are still restricted information though, but at least he’s seen more of Kakashi and Jiraiya than canon!naruto, even if it’s distant and strained (kakashi is in no way able to step into being more than the emotionally-clearly-not-okay occasional visitor into P13!Naruto’s life). Naruto leaves Konoha (but doesn’t join another village - in actuality, he straight-up leaves through another dimension, but as literally no one knows Naruto is labelled as a missing-nin). Sasuke is the jinchuurinki of the Nine-Tails/Kurama - this changes some things but the Uchiha massacre still happens. Sai is an Uchiha (who lives with his adoptive civilian parents - Sai is not part of the Clan compound and the traditions, but he is of Uchiha blood) and never joined Root. Sakura is much less/not even a fangirl for Sasuke. Team 7 is Kiba, Sakura, and Sasuke - Team 8 is Hinata, Shino, and Sai. Sasuke is friendlier and more open and has actual friends - Shikamaru, Sai, Shino, and eventually the rest of Team 7 as well. Story is focused on Sasuke instead of Naruto. Characters: Naruto (pre-Departure), Sasuke (currently pre-Chunnin Exams), Sai Sumitobu (same age as Sasuke)
Papillion Arbor: story focused on Shinrai Aburame, who is an older Aburame cousin who gradually recovered meta-knowledge memories but fully considers himself to be Shinrai, Aburame in clan and spirit. Probably set a few years earlier than Naruto-era; we’ll have to see because this one’s plot is completely unformed right now. Characters: Shinrai (chunnin-times? 26-going-on-14 years old) (title needed): Asaha Fukushima, an orphaned civilian-born boy who takes care of/adopts another younger civilian boy while trying to keep everything he cares about safe - “titled” the “second coming of the Copy-ninja” because of how quickly he picks up skills - unreally fast learner. Nearly-sensor -like extrasensory touch - a little like Inosuke’s? - plus having some Nara blood from his grandfather - water element. Naruto still in Academy era. Characters: Asaha Fukushima (chunnin-time, currently Kakashi’s apprentice and not immediately tied to a plot arc - 27-going-on-14 years old), Hachi Asahi (Asaha’s ward/adoptive younger brother, Academy-age 11 years old)
(title needed, probably a name that somehow references “spring”): A story focusing on Monshō Kandō, the adopted-but-also-blood child of Rock Lee - set in the “blank period”/after The Last. Slice-of-life theoretical-fic, mostly about friends and friendship. Monshō Kandō, in addition to the other half of their name (Monshō Kandō has a very long name on legal documents), they also are known by Kawasemi, King Catcher, and Utsukushī (literally: beautiful), the name that Lee gave them before he discovered the actual name they were born with. Characters: Kawasemi, who is currently in Suna (Kawasemi is a Title like Shikabane-hime is a Title for Silver Queen’s Shikako Nara - used frequently but not actually their name) - technically should be called Utsukushī Lee. Chunnin-time - 18-going-on-16 years old.
TEAM APOTHEOSIS: Asaha, Kawasemi, and Myōjōsen (the main character Aburame from another story - the main thing to know about her is that she’s pretty feral and has centipedes integrated in her body in ways the Aburame have never seen before and speaks like an Inuzuka) find themselves in the Dead Wastes (yes this is really where Silver Queen’s DoS!Stones of Gelel arc culminates - keeping the location but not actually involving the Stones of Gelel), and decide to ‘might as well’ do whatever while they’re here - Gaara suddenly gets three baffling but affectionate missing-nin-guardian-friends? Characters: Baki (what am I thinking, how can I write him?? Maybe later), Gaara (not refined enough for this yet, but maybe in the future), Kawasemi (jonin-rank) 20 years old, Asaha (jonin-rank) 20 years old,  Myōjōsen (jonin-rank) 21 years old.
(title?): Asaha is reborn (again) this time as Shikimizu Nara, older cousin to Shikamaru, and this time his story revolves around being the bestest friend to/for Shino, original plot outside of the Rookies, and becoming Kakashi’s apprentice - Shikamizu gains the battle name of the “Shallow Balance” - they use ninja-wire to string their environment to run on the taut threads. Characters: Shikamizu Nara (currently Academy-days - 24-going-on-11 years old)
The Amber Firefly - Shino suddenly finds himself in the Senju-Uchiha War and is taken in as an obvious Aburame by the Aburame Clan of the era as a Prophet - that’s all the premise i’ve got for the moment but this un’s a real idea. Shino’s slightly different from canon, but we’ll get to that later. Characters: Shino (神託/Shintaku-sama/Prophet) - The Last when he was actually back where he was supposed to be - 18-going-on-14 years old.
Sunea to Kensei no Sanshō̄o (Snares and Feints of the Salamander): story follows Gekkeiju Hikōkai (English: Hikōkai Gekkeiju) once they meet Naruto while on ANBU jinchuurinki-watching duty - haven’t written a plot yet but it probably focuses on being ANBU/jounin and interactions like that. Characters: Hikōkai (currently ANBU Sanshō̄o - what this means is after they have been taken off Naruto-watching duty in which they were ANBU Kōjaku) - 25-going-on-23 years old
Yorumungando Kōtei no Gekkō Sunea (Snares of the Great Jormungandr's  Moonbeam): Remixed Snares and Feints! -  Hikōkai is now Itachi, but with a twist - Fugaku and Mikoto are moved generations up so they’re in the Minato-Jounin Era.  Hikōkai renames himself/themself as just Kōkai, or Tsukiakari.  Kōkai now adapts and considers himself male, and also is struggling to act as Itachi-like as possible while being scrutinized from all sides. Kōkai‘s best friends are Shisui and Ensui Nara. Luckily tensions haven’t risen so high that Kōkai needs to immediately worry about the Massacre, but that’s still probably in the cards with how the tensions were slowly rising. Characters: Tsukiakari/Kōkai Uchiha (genin-times, ??-sensei need to develop later) - 25-going-on-24-going-on-11 years old (yeah...)
Adiantum Raddianum (the scientific name for the maidenhair fern): First take on the is-Sasuke/Uchiha-after-the-massacre trend: Makano “Mako” Uchiha is a non-native-speaking former recreational wilderness survivor who upon waking up in class as Makano, starts living life like in a dazed dream - Makano doesn’t understand the native language and doesn’t care enough to devote themselves to learning more than a little; Mako ends up learning four phrases/words by the time they meet their genin team. “See" (ウォッチ/U~otchi, used for many things in half negative, sarcastic, and faintly approving manner), "tonbo" (dragonfly, for virtually anything Maka approves of. People haven't quite figured out what this means yet, because Dragonfly is patently unhelpful when describing food or generally anything in particular), Kekkōdesu (no thanks. a pretty helpful thing to learn even when it also gets mistaken for things and causes misunderstandings), and hai, which is one of the earliest and easiest things that Mako learned while listening to people talk. Makano is placed onto Team 3, under Gekkō Hayate. Story mostly focuses on Team 3′s missions and some betweens - Makano is older than Sasuke and also doesn’t bother trying to mingle with the Rookies beyond being around Shino and Shikamaru. Characters: Makano (genin-days) - 22-going-on-9 years old
(title needed): second attempt at is-Sasuke/other Uchiha massacre survivor: Mitorori Uchiha. Mitorori... doesn’t believe that this is real. As in, directly inspired by Julyflame’s Come From the Holy Fire, Mitorori believes this is a dream - in turn, he uses this “dreamspace” to release stress from his work/life - Mitorori is even more aggressive and irreverent than in his real life. Cue aggressive Uchiha punkish boy shoving himself into matters that don’t concern him. Characters: Mitorori (Academy days - 10 years old)
Hanabira Sasuke: Third attempt at is-Sasuke/other Uchiha massacre survivor: “Shikichi” (Threshhold) Sasuke Uchiha started off waking up in Iruka’s classroom as Sasuke. Story currently only has plot for Academy days - Shikamaru and eventually the rest of the Rookies start to pick up that Sasuke’s... acting off, they nonverbally start accommodating and bonding around him - Sasuke Protection Squad! Shikichi calls himself that internally because it’s one of the first words he learned to read in Japanese - of course he’s sort of aware that he can’t actually start calling himself that because he has a “real” name - but eventually this’ll probably get discovered by Shikamaru and he’ll go by both. Characters: Shikamaru (Academy - 7 years old), “Sasuke” (Academy - 20-going-on-7 years old)

KNY AU ideas/headcanons?
so I watched a few "KNY roleswap au reacts" on YouTube and I just had a lightbulb and I'm writing this now so I won't forget later:
what if..
-Tanjiro is still the older brother but instead of him going to the town that day, he got sick and Nezuko went instead?
-They're both taught the Sun God dance by their father so they both know how to use it with a blade(Nezuko is usually the one to do it because Tanjiro is a demon etcetc)
-Instead of Giyuu killing Nezuko, it was Shinobu who was going to kill Tanjiro? I still haven't figured out where she'll refer Nezuko to train to though.. she might train her herself idk
-Zenitsu having more self-confidence and not being the coward that he is? But he still gets struck with lightning and he only knows one form of Thunder Breathing and only uses one sword with chips?
-Zenitsu still simps for Nezuko but he's a tsundere instead of a chaser. Mad catch for you soft tsundere simps out there
-He's respected by people and has actual parents and not orphaned?
-I feel like most characters in KNY are either orphaned or abused so I'll give them nice parents, foster or real(ofc the Kamados will still be dead)
-No shirtless Zenitsu or Inosuke because a b s
-Inosuke being raised by actual humans and not boars? He still uses two swords but he doesn't chip them and he's nice and a bit less cowardly than OG!Zenitsu?
-Gives compliments and still oblivious
-Still can't write or pronounce things because of some disorder
-Nezuko learning Water Breathing or Insect Breathing(that sounds so gross) from either Urokodaki-san or Shinobu herself?
-Kanao is more outgoing and Aoi is nicer
-Michael Jackson- I mean Muzan is less aggressive and Lady Tamayo is more protective of Yushiro and Yushiro is a lot nicer but still a tsundere?
-Might add more if I feel like it

Aoi's Story
Aoi doesn’t draw a lot of attention to herself, though her presence is felt throughout so many other characters’ stories. Anytime something needs to get cooked or cleaned or fixed, she’s there, but she also is a common placeholder in the story, like serving as a more verbose mouthpiece to explain Functional Recovery, or like being someone who needs rescue so as to set Tanjiro off on his next big arc, or like… marrying Inosuke???
Tumblr media
The fact that Aoi doesn’t get much character focus on her own and is instead involved in so many others’ makes her background one of the most difficult to pinpoint, making her one of the most complicated characters to work with. I’ve tried my own interpretation of her history in a couple of fics (an Aoi-centric, Aoi-limited POV one-shot, and the pre-canon Butterfly Mansion one with Shinobu’s Tsuguko serving as outsider perspective), but here’s a collection of my thoughts on her character and what gaps I’ve found have to be filled in.
Tumblr media
First, timeline.
A lot details are fuzzy, and have to be figured out in relation to other characters. I already touched on Aoi a lot in an attempted timeline of Shinobu’s history, and to keep working with Aoi, we need to bring in other Pillar timelines too. While we don’t know how old Kanao was when she was brought into the Butterfly Mansion, we know it had to have been at least four years prior, because Kanae was killed when Shinobu was 14 (Taisho Secret, Chapter 162). Aoi was already there when Kanao was brought home.
As a reminder, this all took place at least four years prior to canon, and Kiyo, Sumi, and Naho all came into the Butterfly Mansion fold by then too, for they are present at Kanae’s grave when Kanao thinks back to “when she died” and how she couldn’t cry. And what might that be that Aoi is wearing? A Corp uniform?
We don’t know how old Aoi is, or at least the fanbooks don’t state this. The Japanese on this Taisho secret (also right before Chapter 162) indicated that Aoi always wanted sisters, but the word used is 姉妹 (shimai), comprised of both ‘older sister’ and ‘younger sister,’ so this doesn’t indicate any seniority between her and Kanao. For simplicity’s sake, let’s assume they’re around the same age, so when Tanjiro meets her this would put Aoi at age 16 (or so—no one knows Kanao’s birthday, after all, they just picked out the day she met the Kochou sisters). So Aoi, orphaned by demons (as stated in the Taisho Secret prior to Chapter 164), had wanted a sister, and was already taken in by the Kochou sisters… but Kanao is grouped in Kanae and Shinobu’s sister, whereas Aoi is not.
…Interesting.
Tumblr media
If this takes place shortly after Kanae’s death (and since Shinobu always worked on to put on a smile for her girls since then, I find it unlikely that this was a later gathering on the anniversary of Kanae’s death), then Aoi would not had been in the Corp yet. She took part in the same Final Selection as Muichiro (as stated in Fanbook #2), and he still would had been out in the woods with Yuichiro at this time, maybe even with his parents.
Ergo, Aoi hasn’t been an official Corp member long either, despite how long she’s been involved at the Butterfly Mansion.
Here is where things get murkier.
We don’t actually know when Muichiro’s Final Selection was.
We do know he was 11 when he was orphaned, (and since he has a summer birthday, if he counted his age change on his birthdate as opposed to New Years, it’s possibly he had just turned 11), and then he “become a Pillar two months after holding a sword [for the first time]” (Uzui, Chapter 87). What we don’t know is how long it took Muichiro to go from severely injured to using a sword for the first time, very likely right before heading off to his Final Selection. While we do see a flashback panel of Muichiro covered in bandages while training with a blade in Chapter 121, we don’t know when this took place. Since his swordsmith could tell from the blade he actively used as a Corp member that he worked that hard to strengthen himself, I’m inclined to say this is not a flashback from when he first recovered from that event that made him lose his memories. After all, he hasn’t been in the Corp that long, certainly not even close to three years. A footnote in Fanbook #2 states his impressions of the other Pillars as animals is not only because of his memory damage, but also because he hasn’t been a Pillar very long.
If we tried to nail it down further, Mitsuri started training at age 17, and if we go by the Rengoku Gaiden, she passed the Final Selection six months later, when Rengoku became a Pillar (so perhaps 18 months-iiiish before meeting Tanjiro?). Rengoku was a Pillar before Muichiro, and by the Fanbook footnote, presumably Mitsuri was too. While it’s implied the Final Selection takes place once a year, that’s hard to stomach by a strict reading of canon and I like to assume it’s at least twice a year for more flexibility, but if it’s indeed only once a year, then that leaves only the year prior to Tanjiro’s participation.
So, that gives us about a year-ish since Aoi joined and quit fighting.
Anyway, she enters, and then quits right afterward, and presumably feels ashamed of it, despite all the good she does in the Butterfly Mansion. If we dive into her manner of speech and how she addresses other people… well, actually, I have. Here’s a snippet of interpretation I put into my list of terms of address used throughout the cast:
Let’s work backwards. Fanbook #2 also tells us that Aoi learned Water Breathing, not something she’d had learned from Kochou sisters. Aoi had her own cultivator, but that leaves all sorts of questions about when and where and how long her training was.
My personal headcanon to make sense of this: she had a Water Cultivator but the cultivator didn’t have a place for a girl to stay (too many boy students around), so the Kochou girls agreed to take her in. Due to the commute, it took Aoi a longer time to accomplish what others could accomplish in a year.
But, it could just as well be that Aoi was merely the first orphan taken in, and after Kanae’s death, she decided to learn Breath Technique, but Shinobu wouldn’t teach her, like how Shinobu wouldn’t teach Kanao either (thus, Kanao watched and learned and snuck out the Final Selection without permission). In Aoi’s case, perhaps it was that Shinobu knew she couldn’t stop her, but introduced her to a Water Breath cultivator, as Aoi might be more suited to that Breath. If she learned in the normal span of a year, then she’d have started training around age 14 (roughly two years after Kanae’s death), and entered the Final Selection about age 15. There’s of course plenty of flexibility in those numbers.
Food for thought: Using “-sama” for Shinobu implies some distance, or at least not the closeness Kanao takes advantage of by using “-neesan,” even though Aoi has been in the Butterfly Mansion longer than Kanao has is an orphan. Likewise, Aoi keeps some formal distance by addressing the Kamaboko boys (whom she lives with for the greater part of a year) in polite language and “-san,” even though she entered the Corp before they did. While it could just be in Aoi’s personality to speak this way, my personal interpretation is that she, having quit as a swordsman, feels she is both imposing on Shinobu’s kindness and that doesn’t have the right to consider herself a colleague to active swordmen, however inexperienced or younger than her they may be.
Some time ago, I also had to wonder about her potentially complicated feelings toward Zenitsu, who makes no secret of his cowardice and whines and screams about going on missions, but unlike Aoi, he actually does.
I want to pause here to wonder a bit more about her other skills, for Gotouge tells us almost as soon as Aoi joins the story how wonderfully talented she is.
Tumblr media
Aoi is probably the sort of person who identifies a problem (i.e., broken box), investigates what needs to be done to fix it (block the holes where light can get through, specifically, where the lacquer coating has been permeated), and then either does it (due to having worked with it or something similar to it before), or figures out how to do it (gathers supplies and learns basic lacquer technique). Also, she’s effective. She doesn’t just save Tanjiro’s ass by letting him in when she’s out of Haganezuka’s line of sight, she follows up with swiftly dispelling Haganezuka’s hours and hours of rage. Aoi!! Stopped!! HAGANEZUKA!!! Inosuke’s right, this girl really is super, super strong!!!! (At least I assume it was Aoi who gave him the dango, Kiyo and the other girls don’t seem brave enough for that.)
What makes me curious from a character perspective is how long she’s been like this. Was this always simply part of her personality, or did she focus her efforts on things like this so as to earn her keep in the Butterfly Mansion, and perhaps distract herself from the shame of having quit the sword? I think it may be a mix. Since we know nothing about her background from before she was orphaned, it’s hard to say when it all started, and what she might had come in already knowing.
That got me thinking, because it was very, very common for poor girls to quit school to go work far away from home in domestic labor or farming to earn money for their families (not quite like getting sold and paying off a debt), then perhaps Aoi had already been doing this very kind of work for many years already… and maybe she was far, far away when her family was killed, so she never actually saw a demon until the Final Selection.
So that gives us a lot to think about with Aoi’s past, but the future leaves just as many questions.
First, like… InoAoi. So much of my InoAoi tag is a matter of me wrapping my head around how this came about, for both of them. As blindsided as I was by this ship, I don’t dislike it, I think it’s really cute that Inosuke likes being treated special by her and wants to treat her special back, and it’s also cute that Inosuke makes her smile. Or at least, Fanbook #2 tells us that, even though that runs contrary to everything in serialized canon and we only saw those smiles in material printed later, perhaps after fans reacted with surprise to Chapters 204 and 205.

(Sure, other people may get acorns, but does anyone else get pine cones?)
...what this means, then, is that Aoi found it easier and easier to smile around someone like Inosuke. I love that Ufotable added her giving Inosuke a little smile when he was being rude but sort of endearing for having made progress in, like, sitting at the table like a reasonable human, using chopsticks (sort of), and only eating off his own plate… nevermind.
Inosuke seems so far from what a straight-laced person like Aoi would want in a partner, but it’s an age-old romantic trope that straight-laced people need someone to loosen them up. I’d like to think that Inosuke showed himself to be more of a dependable man around her, and that he finds her pretty and stuff, you know, couple-y things besides just ‘pair the spares.’ It still baffles me how Aoi could find him attractive, though—unless—well—unless she found his chiseled features on display sexy, I suppose. And that face? Maybe she always had a thing for pretty boys. Maybe these were features she liked enough in the first place that when he started showing interest in her, she thought, “I can fix him. At least enough to make him a proper himbo” and then was pleased with her lot in life?
It does beg the question, though, did she have a flame for Tanjiro? If so, how long did it last? Did it hurt to see him with Kanao? My thought is that, given how she linguistically places herself at a distance from others, she might had made Tanjiro off-limits long before recognizing how Kanao was so much more drastically impacted by him.
--Moving way on, actually. Once all the spares were paired, who got the mansion?
Maybe that stung a bit too, for Aoi had been with Kanao for so many years, but never got to see how much of an impact she had on Kanao. It’s totally there, though, Aoi! Man, I hope Kanao got really good at expressing all her appreciation for her, and I hope Aoi accepted it.
The two of them become the masters of the Butterfly Mansion after that. Since Kanao became a doctor, I have to assume Aoi is the one who taught her how. Also, who even taught Kanao how to read and write?? Was this Aoi?? And perhaps the little girls… oh no, it’s cute, cute thoughts, oh no, oh no, moving on—
This is a legit question. If we go back to how Aoi might had seen Kanao as more fully a sister to Shinobu and Kanae than she was, Aoi might feel it was more Kanao’s right to inherit it (though Kanao would disagree). It’s also easy to assume that it will fall to Aoi (and Inosuke will move in), for Kanao is off to go be the matriarch of the Kamado family home.
………….or is she?
To borrow from this post about post-canon TanKana headcanons:
Kanao worked as a doctor and had reason to feel attached to the Butterfly Mansion.

Tanjiro wasn’t really in good shape to continue making charcoal. Inosuke took to it really well.
At some point later generations of the Kamado clan lost contact with the Hashibira clan, until Aoba and Sumihiko met up and became friends while dealing with being in their respective amounts of big trouble. Aoba seems attached to the mountains. Sumihiko, little parkour boy, lives the middle of a city and presumably has never made charcoal.
While Japan does try to keep family trades going on for generation after generation, it’s not always feasible to go father to son, and there’s always been flexibility, including entrusting some traditions to unrelated craftsman who may or may not be formally adopted into the family. Name changes may or may not happen.
What if Tanjiro entrusted the Kamado family home and charcoal trade to Inosuke?
Aoi, who might had always felt the Butterfly Mansion belonged just a little more to Kanao, might had been fine with this and offered her services to the new community, while Kanao continued running the hospital with equipment that helped her get around her vision impairment, as well as take extra care of Tanjiro’s health.
If we look at it from the Aoi/InoAoi perspective, Aoi might have understood her husband’s need for mountains, as well as Kanao’s need for more equipment. Aoi, who has undergone Breath training, and who is no stranger to grueling labor and lots of chores, wouldn’t have a lot of difficulty adjusting to rural life, even if it wasn’t her personal choice (which we have no idea about, maybe she likes the quiet of it). She might even find a lot of purpose how there in the mountains, knowing that by this time, the girls of the Butterfly Mansion are all fine without her (a huge turning point in Aoi’s life, for sure). While Inosuke would have his own serious understanding of what it means to inherit the Kamado home and charcoal furnace, Aoi would care just as much, and perhaps in some way, this would be like paying Tanjiro back for how he fought in her stead on the battlefield. The more I think on this theory, especially given the potential impact of Tanjiro’s mark, the more I find I like the Kamado->Hashibira property handoff idea, especially since everyone else in their squad would still be over there frequently, it wouldn’t be like totally letting go. But would Tanjiro and Nezuko trust Aoi to value their home? Absolutely, they absolutely would.
I would prefer that Tanjiro stays in his family home, but the more I think about this someone sad alternative, the more I think it could make a lot of sense.
---
Again, that’s just a pet theory, and all we really know is that Inosuke makes her smile. It’s up to our imaginations how she gets to the point of smiling this wide.

Maybe this happily adventurous—as well as strong and talented!!—girl was there all along, before she knew of demons.

finale - muse a wraps themself around muse b to keep them from harm :3
Time stood still, everything moved at a snails pace when he found it. He’d felt it’s presence long before he came face to face with it. Fingers with long, unnatural clawed tips, mere slits within its sea of destruction, maw filled with pointed fangs opened wise as the demon saw that it had been found by prey. Wicked words, condescending laughter at the small orphan before it. How could it not? They had come for the scent of 3 powerful sources and yet? When it finally cornered one, what lay before it was nothing but a small, insignificant child?! When it’s blood had reeked of luminosity, of significance, of power already under, intertwined with the beloved king of darkness.
And yet?
What was before them? Nothing. A waste. One of the weakest types of humans.
A child.
Left alone, destine to die. Though the eyes of this one was captivating, especially tainted and twisted in terror like they were now. Perhaps it already knew, that what was before him was nothing but a befitting death. A pointless one. Another one taken by darkness. Another tale of a fool who ran off into the woods and never returned. Another lost to time, another lost to darkness. Frozen, stuck in terror, the demon rose it’s claws ready to cut this insignificant bug down.
He’s stuck. He can’t move, he can hear his own panic in his ears. It was like his mind could not comprehend what was looming over him. Yuichiro had felt it from their home, that something dangerous was lurking in the darkness. And naturally, just as their parents had shown him, he had grabbed his hatchet and came out to kill it. To take care of it, to eliminate the threat. But he had no idea. No clue. No way of knowing, that what he would encounter was one of the very beings that woman had told them about.
A demon…
I don’t want to die… I don’t want to die- I don’t want to leave- I can’t die- I can’t die on Muichiro- on ino—-
A flash, bright crimson sprays across his face, iron stung at his nose, as far muscular arms wrapped around his frame, long dark blue locks, the white noise which rung in his ears came to an abrupt end. Widen eyes of cerulean finally break away from the demon to look at the body covering him. To grow wide with mind breaking horror at the sight of who had just protected him.
“I…INOSUKE—“ as he screamed, his arms lock around the elder before he could fall now that he’d been broken out of his trance.
“INOSUKE?! INOSUKE-!!!”
