I love how people make up single post fic scenarios for their ship like “character one is working at a coffee shop. His manager yells at him every day until he cries. One day they run out receipt rolls during the morning rush and have to scramble to order more. The delivery gay arrives. It’s character two. He’s in the tightest Twinkie’s Amazon delivery driver outfit you’ve ever seen. They immediately bond over their horrible working conditions”
*character A, continuing to fall in love with character B over time, but not admitting their feelings cause they treasure B’s friendship too much and doesn’t want to ruin that*
*while character B is also developing feeling for A, but refuses to tell them due to all the secrets they hold and unstable power running through their veins. B’s fear of hurting A accidentally outweighing their fears of being left alone*
B, injured, exhausted, and barely able to stand on their own two feet, not meeting A’s eyes: “I’ll hurt you.”
A, standing in front of B and gently holding their hands between them, knowing B is hiding things from them but doesn’t care: “You are worth any pain and heartache.”
saving all those " 'i hate you' is boring, 'insert other statement here' is more effective. it *could* happen." posts to use in arguments against other people on discord
Anyways if you're the kind of person who often bemoan "man I sure do wish there were more art of (my otp/my blorbo/my ocs/insert thing here) but I don't/can't do it myself" this is your gentle reminder that you can, in fact, pay people cash money to do it for you.
What is Kloktober?: An incredibly zazzy event taking place in October where we celebrate all things Metalocalypse. There’s a prompt for every day of the month to interpret as you see fit! Draw, write, paint, cosplay, make memes - all forms of participation are welcome!
How do I participate?: Make your totally brutal creation inspired by the day’s prompt and post it using the tag #kloktober2023 - it’s just that simple! Post it here, post it to Instagram, post it to AO3, post it to Twitter, wherever, go nuts!
Am I allowed to–YUP, ANYTHING GOES! There are no wrong answers during Kloktober! :D Your interpretation of a prompt is VALID. If you only want to do a few days, that’s VALID. Don’t burn yourself out, this is for fun! (Even I won’t be doing all of them, so don’t stress!)
What if I haven't seen the movie yet? No worries! If there's a prompt that doesn't suit you, please feel free to reach back in time and choose a prompt from a previous year's Kloktober (2022, 2021, or 2020). And as always, if you have any questions about anything, hit me up!
*please read the explanations below the poll options before voting*
was thinking about this on my coach home and naturally had to make it into an overcomplicated poll
explanations, disclaimers, etc. under the cut:
until tumblr enables polls with infinite options there is no way for me to account for the entire breadth of human experience here. the categories provided and the examples thereof will not be, and are not intended to be, exhaustive. if you can't find the exact thing you do listed here or you think it falls into more than one category then please use your best judgement to select whatever answer is closest. only choose "something else not covered here" if there is actually nothing even close to what you do listed in the poll (and please elaborate in the tags if this is the case! i'm curious)
i really wanted to include "guy running alongside the moving vehicle you are in" but ran out of options. sorry
if you feel you do two or more of these things in equal measure just pick whatever one answer you want based on vibes
music video: anything you imagine as a standalone, prerecorded visual to accompany the music. this may feature musical performance elements, dance, a narrative, or any combination of the above. if you're imagining your little scene as if it's intended to be viewed on MTV, youtube, etc as the official visual complement to the music, it probably comes under this category
a music video mainly featuring somebody else: this could be you, your blorbos, your self insert OC, another artist you'd like to see cover the song, random actors/celebrities you would cast in the video, etc. whether they are performing the song within the video or not. if the bulk of the "running time" of your daydream is taken up by people who aren't the artist who originally performs the version of the song you're listening to, pick this one
a live performance: this could be in concert (whether a concert version that already exists e.g. imagining taylor swift's eras tour staging when you hear cruel summer, or a version you would like to see), at karaoke, at an open mic night, your acoustic cover that goes viral when you post it on youtube, busking on the street, performing to the other passengers on the bus, etc. could apply to dance as well as singing/music!
a diegetic use in narrative context: imagining the song being performed as a musical number by people in a story that exists beyond the scope of this one song in order to accompany or advance said story. this might be imagining the song being performed as one of many musical numbers in a stage or movie musical, or it could be a performance that takes place in universe (like the performances in glee, or scott pilgrim vs the world)
non diegetic narrative use: imagining the song as the soundtrack to a scene in a story that exists beyond the scope of this one song, but it is not being played/performed/heard by the people within the scene. for example, you imagine a fight scene in a movie taking place to this song, or perhaps it would play in the background during your OTP's first kiss if your favourite fanfiction was adapted into a netflix original tv series.
AMV/edit: a video compilation of existing* scenes from a piece of media, put together by a fan and set to music. (*existing might be taken loosely; e.g. you might be imagining an AMV of scenes from a book with no actual visual media adaptation. the main distinction is that here you are imagining the actual editing process of splicing scenes together as a fan project, as opposed to the music accompanying one continuous scene or sequence of scenes - which would come under "non diegetic narrative use" - or the clips being intended as the official visual accompaniment to a song, which would come under "music video".)
an abstract or lyric based visualiser: 2000s core windows media player visuals, a lyric video, anything that focuses more on objects, scenery, abstract patterns, words moreso than People/Fictional Characters/Animals/etc Doing Things To Music
Are you curious about what South Park ships other people in the fandom know about and how they feel about them?
I've been thinking a lot about how varied the SP fandom's shipping culture is, so I made this! It's a survey containing every single SP ship I've seen in art, or fic, or just heard people talking about (every single ship between the kids, that is). If you have the time, please help me by taking and sharing the survey! I'll be posting results from time to time on this blog.
Additional information below the cut, but feel free to contact this blog if you have any further questions.
Anticipatory FAQs
Is this anonymous?
Yes. There is no place you’re asked to give your name/username, this survey is not collecting emails, and you don’t even have to sign into Google to do it. It’s totally anonymous so please answer as truthfully as you’d like.
What’s this for? / Why are you doing this?
The pursuit of knowledge! South Park is such a huge fandom with so many ships and the fandom's opinion and knowledge have shifted dramatically over the years. I just want to see where it’s at right now. Also I like procrastinating real world responsibilities by making consequenceless projects for myself.
Why are the ships listed in the order that they are?
When writing this all out, I wrote down individual characters and the ships they’re a part of. I started with Stan (arguably the main character of the show) and then went from there. When a character didn’t have a ton of ships by themself, I grouped them with other characters. The ships were inserted into the survey alphabetically but I’ve set the survey to randomize the question order so there’s as little bias as possible.
“OP how dare you not include [insert your OTP I didn’t include here]”
My deepest apologies for forgetting a pairing. I did my best to think up every single ship I’ve ever seen included in fics or depicted in fanart or discussed by people. There is a final question where you may make me aware of one (1) ship you didn’t see. This survey is already a behemoth though, so I don’t think I’ll go back and insert any additional pairings unless a lot of people suggest one particular ship. Same thing for any poly ships and ships between the South Park parents/adults (the latter may get its own poll if I find the inspiration).
Can I post this to [other social media sites/Discord group chats /anywhere]?
Please do! Getting accurate results for a survey like this requires a large crowd. I actively encourage and ask you to please share this with your friends and followers wherever you can. You could even pretend you made the survey for whatever twisted reason. I don’t care, I’ll still get the data I want.
3. Have you ever unfollowed someone over a fandom opinion?
4.Do you have a NoTP in your fandom? Are they a popular OTP?*
Hazbin/Helluva Salty Ask game
(Link to Ask List)
For the first question, sadly yes. It was someone I'd been following for quite some time, since the heyday of Steven Universe. But then they turned out to be really big on the Vivzie/Hazbin/Helluva hate and I promptly unfollowed them.
As far as NoTPs go in the Hellaverse, the big one for me is definitely Charlastor. For me that ship was and is the perfect storm of uncomfortable and insufferable 'wanking the overrated tumblr sexyman'. Like you know that post I did a while back on how 'the biggest lie that Alastor ever pulled was convincing all of Hell and tumblr that he’s NOT actually the biggest petty, insecure goober with an ego comprised of wet-tissue paper, etc. etc.'? Yeah, the 'tumblr' part of that is focus SQUARELY on this ship.
And I am VERY happy to have seen it's popularity dwindle since the release of Season 1. Like I might think RadioApple is overrated, but I consider it FAR preferable over Charlastor.
On the Helluva side of things, I would actually say the INVERSE of the question is the one with the more interesting/spicy answer.
But as far as 'fandom OTP that I consider a NoTP', it's not quite a full-blown fandom OTP, but I'll say 'Moxxie/any-lady-that-isn't-Mille'. Simply because many of them (especially Loona/Moxxie) kind of REEK of that same trend we see with Jaune where the ship is basically 'I want to fantasize about having sex with this pretty girl but am too lazy to come up with my OC so I'll just awkwardly crowbar this character I find 'relatable' into a generic self-insert mold'. Like here's a fun game; find any Moxxie/pretty-girl-that-isn't-Millie fic and check if it ignores his bisexuality.
