Why Kon now is just Tim's sweet, soft boyfriend, like, now that's Conner's only personality trait in the fandom.
I like timkon, personally I don't ship them because I'm hardly interested in romantic things but, oh I like it.
Now the fandom only asks that in the next comic in which they appear they already declare and marry in the same issue.
As if that was good writing when in reality it would just be cheap complacent writing.
Because--like, well, basically the fandom sanitizes everything to the point they’re deeply defensive and sort of pseudo-ignorant of the personality and actions of their own proclaimed favorite characters.
Rather it’s their favorite doing genuinely bad things, or just their favorite actually having quite a different relationship with somebody else. Some people are aware and just having fun and all that, but others will just flat out deny a bunch of stuff.
Nothing wrong with having fun, and this isn’t just a thing only in this fandom, it’s in every fandom. It’s just an any-fandom type of thing.
People read Teen Titans and liked how close Tim and Conner where and decided to ship them together, because they had the same kind of caring relationship that people like to see in romantic relationships, they seemed like the most important people to each other even from their own romantic relationships. An understandable ship, and if it wasn’t for that series mucking their characters and personalities up I probably would generally-speaking ship them.
(I don’t really ship anything though. I’m not pre-disposed to like romantic stuff. I’m not a romantic, or sexually based person. Plus I read early Tim mainly, so he’s like--thirteen in my head and I just think that’s weird to do then cause it’s so young.)
But on a place like Tumblr where most people don’t read comics, (And for the most part understandably why. It’d get expensive collecting everything and it’s illegal to just pirate them.) and so they’ll see the more tender panels of Tim and Conner and base everything around that, and more or less just that.
Along with that time period, in general, changing Conner from teenage celebrity with a kind but misguided heart, sleazy sense of humor, and mega sized sex drive, to a moody, uh, broody, but still kind and sort of sensitive-ish-but-in-a-good-way farm boy, complete with a total change in fashion even when he’s Superboy and not disguised as a civilian--for--for some reason.
As well as Tim going from a dorky, insecure, empathic, kind-hearted, mildly clumsy (for a crime-fighter I mean), perseverant, situationally temper having, clever, small-fry, boy scout-y, kid into a sort of loner, broody, moody (he was moody and broody before but in a relatable way not a CW way), show off-y mega-genius kid.
So as their aesthetics and general personality change the fandom decided to further flanderize that into Tim being a tiny (which he is, but still), emotional, pretty emo boy that needed his big, strong, compassionate, boyfriend, that’s always there for him.
(Important to say that a lot of fandom changes aren’t like that. And arguably more just leave them as bros that decided to date and stuff like that, but this isn’t really about those kinds of fans.)
Which leaves Conner being awfully super freaking boring, with not a lot of character. Mostly just for the service of Tim, who still has a lot of fans purely from his Red Robin run. Where he was turned into even exaggerated of the Geoff Johns portrayal, where he was even more woobified, and so forth.
And just to say it, people can enjoy what ever they want obviously. That’s how it more or less came to be into this spot.
Conner has just been widdled down into Tim’s compassionate boyfriend who he needs oh-so-much, and doesn’t seem to have much interest of his own, unless he’s also being used to be Jon’s brother, which while barely depicted, people love the idea of because it’s very soft. And a lot of Jon’s popularity came from him being a large-eyed, cute little kid.
Fandom just uses Conner for the services of others, and I feel like I rarely ever see people actually liking Conner for who he is himself.
Which is similar to how Tim is commonly just used at the service of others by being some kind of wacky, mildly deranged coffee addict, for the other person to have a quick one liner about. Or to force him into what ever unfitting trope they want. Or just Stephanie’s girlfriend, which is quite the switch from the comics just using Steph as “Tim’s boyfriend”. Because I guess letting her have her personality back and be able to move on is just too hard for writer’s, when you can have laziness instead.
But for Conner, he gets it even worse than that, because despite Tim’s fandom personality being totally wrong, Conner doesn’t have any personality beyond “fashionable, compassionate, kindly fellow”. Besides for a few posts that might actually try to use his personality.
Which him being used as just “the other guy” saddens me a lot, because even though Conner actually isn’t on my list of favorite characters, I still care about him given that he is in comics I do care about (if not his solos), and know that he deserves better than that.
Now fans only want to see him be used in such spots, with no interest in him having his own unique arc most of the time as far as the more general view is concerned.
Shipping doesn’t by default mean that, but for some fans that’s only what they view Conner for is what I’m basically meaning.

Hey hey hey!  So I have to admit that this one is my favourite one in the @jondami-week so far because I just had sooo much fun with the names of the tales you cannot imagine
Day 6: Royalty AU | Masquerade | different first meeting
And guess what? You can also read it under the tag
A set of firecrackers exploded every time a royal family crossed the door of the Metropolis palace. Jon has counted five families arriving today for the great ball that meant his coming of age. Although it would be great to see some of his dad’s friends again, it was not an event he was waiting for. He understood why it was important that the heir and future king of such a big kingdom like Metropolis should be presented in society at his 18th birthday, but he also knew there were a lot of people with second intentions coming to the party. It was part of the reason he insisted so much on making it a masquerade party.
“Don’t you think that blue and red might be a bit… obvious?” asked Conner watching the mask he had chosen.
“Well, they are the colours of the house of El so…” he shrugged. “And aren’t you going to use a similar one?”
“Yes, but I actually want Tim to recognise me.”
Jon rolled his eyes at the antics of his older brother. It was a pity that Conner could not inherit the kingdom instead of him but being an attempted evil clone of his father created by an evil sorcerer made the council a bit reticent to accept him. If it was not by the intervention of his father Conner would not probably be even there.
“You crushing after one of the Gotham princes is creepy as hell.”
“Oh, is that so? Weren’t you the one excited about meeting ‘the Robin’ for the first time?”
The young prince suppressed the urges of throwing the mask at his head. Not because he was not right, but only to shut him up. Because his brother actually had a point, he had been excited about meeting the youngest prince of Gotham for a while, since his deeds started to arrive in the form of songs and stories. It was not weird for the princes of Gotham to be the protagonist of several adventures, having in consideration that his father was the great Dark Knight. Jon had been a fan of the Gotham royal family for a while, reading The Ballads of Nightwing, The Perils of Batgirl, The Dark Adventures of Red Hood among others every night. His brother favourite was The Hardships of the Red Robin, which encouraged him to join the Young Justice Force after hearing the Red Robin was going to be its commander. Jon was still too young to join any of the battalions of the Justice League Alliance, but after the party he would probably join one. Hopefully the Teen Titans so he could fight along with Damian Wayne. The youngest of the Gotahm princes was a complete mystery, a young knight with excellent capabilities that claimed to be the biological son of Bruce Wayne. No one had ever heard about him before that but it seemed like the Gotham royalty was quite fine with him and soon his adventures turned into The Song of the Robin, Jon’s favourite.
So when in the middle of the dance Jon observed a green masks with red, yellow and black details, he knew it was him. Apart from the fact that Nightwing was beside him of course (and Nightwing did not even need a mask because everyone knew about his particular bottom).
“This is a waste of time,” he heard the young prince whispering. “I don’t understand why Father insisted I have to come.”
“He thinks you and Jon could be good friends,” Jon smiled at the words of Nightwing. “As long as you know who to behave of course.”
“I have excellent manners, Grayson.”
“Then you wouldn’t refuse me this dance,” interrupted Jon offering his hand.
When he felt warm skin against him, he dared to rise only to fine green eyes staring at him. Damian looked slightly annoyed but not angry, which Jon supposed was a good start. They moved slowly to the ballroom, where the Gothamite let him put his hand over his hip so he could lead. The soft music guided them in a strange silence, his brain trying to think of a topic interesting enough to impress him.
“You know who I am,” said Damian. “You came looking for me.”
“Indeed,” Jon did not see the point in trying to hide it. “I might be a big fan of yours.”
“Oh, please,” the young prince tried to get away but Jon skilfully redirected him as if he was making him turn. “Let me go, I’m not in the mood of a fanboy.”
“You’re not even going to give me a chance,” Jon knew he should be enjoying teasing him this much but the way Robin nose wrinkles was just too cute.
“Don’t see why I should,” again his attempts at leaving were being cut short by swift moves of his companion. “Stop.”
“My, my, don’t tell me the great Robin is not able of surpassing a simple boy.”
Damian smiled, finally interested in the challenge the masqueraded boy was proposing. To anyone on the crowd, it looked like the two young boys were following an intricate dance while in fact both were just trying to win their strange competition. Jon used his speed to cut and guide Damian around him every time he tried to sneak away while the older boy calculated his every move making it harder every time. The song stopped with Damian finally kicking his feet. His body was about to crash against the floor when an arm wrapped his hips. Looking up he could see a mischievous spark inside those stunning green eyes.
“Congratulations, farm boy,” the boy smiled. “You entertained me more than I expected.”
“Always a pleasure,” Jon took the liberty of kissing his hand. “Would it be too risky to ask for the next dance?”
“Hmm,” Damian seemed to think for a bit. “Very well, but only one more, I must leave in order to meet the prince of Metropolis. I’m afraid politics demands that I at least attempt to befriend him.”
“Oh, in that case,” he winked at him. “I think we might be able to enjoy more than one dance.”

Third Round of Claims Open!
Tumblr media
Hello! Based on feedback, I’ve decided to open a third round of claims! For the third round, artists/fanworkers are free to claim as many stories as they are reasonably sure they can finish!
The third round of claims is optional. Don’t want to claim another story, or don’t feel like you’ll be able to create something for multiple stories? You don’t need to claim! I would much rather you focus on creating something awesome for one story, rather than being stressed out trying to create something for multiple stories. Know your limits and don’t overburden yourself!
Each story can be claimed an additional two times. That means there is a potential total of 3 artists per story, and a minimum of 1 artist per story. While unlikely, it would be pretty hectic and stressful for an author to have to coordinate with 16 artists on their story! That’s why there is a limit, and to encourage people to spread the art around to other stories. =D
Stories are guaranteed only one artist each. I cannot guarantee that every single story will get a second artist. Please be understanding of this!
The third round of claims will close Sunday, July 19th 23:59 MDT, when all fanworker sign-ups will be closed. (This is a slight extension compared to the schedule.)
How to Make Multiple Claims:
--- Stories are claimed on a first come, first served basis.
--- Fill out this Google Form right here
--- A matching email will go out to both the artist and the author containing each other’s contact information after a claim is successful. You should receive this email no later than 72 hours after I have confirmed the claim. If you don't get this match up email, please get in contact with me ASAP so that artists and authors can get to work quickly!
Every story listed here is not guaranteed a second or third artist/fanworker! I can only guarantee one artist/fanworker per story.

12 Title: The Sorrows Of Healing Word Count: 18k of 20-22k written Genre: Slice Of Life, Drama, Hurt/Comfort, Character-centric Fandom/Universe: Batman - All Media Types, Batman (Comics), AU from Battle of the Cowl Characters/Pairings: Dick Grayson & Tim Drake, Dick Grayson & Damian Wayne, Dick Grayson & Alfred Pennyworth - Alfred Pennyworth, Dick Grayson, Damian Wayne, Tim Drake Warnings: Off-Screen Character Death, Depression, Suicidal Thoughts and Intentions, Racism, Past/Referenced Child Abuse, Hospitals and Therapy Rating: M Summary: It was Dick who had taken up the Cowl after Bruce had died. It was Dick who had become Batman, taking Damian, Tim, and Alfred with him to the penthouse for a fresh start. But things could never be that easy. All of them were haunted by sorrow: Tim not capable of believing that his second father was gone as well, Dick almost breaking under the pressure of standing tall in the face of a crisis, Damian uncomfortable and lost in these unfamiliar waters he was forced to navigate, and Alfred mourning yet another child. In a world in which Bruce actually died, becoming a family again is harder than some might think. In the midst of fights, the racist white Gotham High Society, and Tim, who fled the nest in a last attempt to resurrect something that no longer exists, it is hard to find hope, and yet all of them somehow manage to do so anyways. The story mostly takes place in their Gotham City penthouse, a ballroom, a Baghdad hospital room, and the graveyard. This is a story of healing - but also about the growing pains along the way - so be aware that Tim and Dick deal with depression (Tim with suicidal thoughts and intentions as well), that Damian and Dick face racism, that Damian's childhood will be referenced as the unpretty mess that is was, and that Bruce will not return. His children will have to learn how to fly on their own.

13 Title: since you’ve been gone (I can breathe for the first time) Word Count: 9,134 Genre: whump, hurt/comfort Fandom/Universe: Batfamily comics (mostly preboot canon with occasional elements of New 52 & Reboot canons) Characters/Pairings: Tim Drake, Batfamily, implied one-sided Tim Drake/Ra’s al-Ghul Warnings: Body horror, depression, child abuse, body modification (consensual and non-consensual), terminal illness, child death, substance abuse (harmful self-medication). Rating: Mature Summary: A study of Tim Drake and his experiences with Hanahaki (specifically, familial Hanahaki), mostly following comics canon with a few changes. Starts when Tim is a child (pre-Robin). He befriends the Gotham Sirens after seeking out Poison Ivy to obtain a growth stopper for his Hanahaki, and later befriends Jason-as-Robin. After Jason’s death and Tim’s parents find out about his Hanahaki, Tim seeks out Batman and becomes Robin. Eventually, after he starts spending time with Bruce, his Hanahaki fades. Years later, following the events of Red Robin and Tim’s distancing from the family, it returns with a vengeance. This story is primarily set in Gotham (at Wayne and Drake manors and the Batcave in particular), with scenes in Iceland (including a glacier) and other locations around the world. Being a Hanahaki fic, the story does contain quite a bit of body horror and terminal illness. The depression occurs throughout due to the Hanahaki & events of Red Robin, as does the body modification (in reference to forced surgery and growth-stopping drugs Tim takes (also the substance abuse tag).). Child abuse is neglect on the part of Tim’s parents, and correlates to the non-consensual body modification tag. Child death is Jason Todd’s canon death.

14 Title: Forging Friendship Word Count: 4k Genre: Action/Adventure Fandom/Universe: Young Justice Characters/Pairings: Roy Harper, Kaldur’ahm, Black Manta Warnings: None Rating: PG-13 Summary: Green Arrow takes Speedy on a mission at the Star City Wharf with Aquaman and the new to the surface Aqualad. When the mentors give them a solo task, Speedy is very unsure about working with the new hero and tries to only focus on his mission. However, the mission goes wrong, forcing Speedy to risk his life, and face his fears, to save Aqualad. This story takes place primarily at night at a warehouse near the ocean. However actions scenes take place inside the warehouse with lots of crates that create a maze effect, and at the end of the story they’re all on fire.

15 Title: (Better Things to do than) Chasing White Rabbits Word Count: 4k of what will likely be 6k Genre: Romcom and action/adventure Fandom/Universe: DC, Pacific Rim Characters/Pairings: Slade Wilson/Dick Grayson Warnings: violence, swearing, slurs (Gipsy Danger is the canon name of a jaeger), overprotective parent Bruce Wayne, sexual innuendo, secret identities, Slade's canonical bad parenting (but at least he's trying to work on that), accidental relationship, family drama, frenemies to lovers Rating: Explicit just in case, though I don't think sex will happen until the next installment in the series Summary: Rumor has it that Dick Grayson can drift with anyone. Slade Wilson has the opposite problem, and kids. Killing kaiju may be easier than parenting, and that's with Grayson playing mediator when he inevitably messes up. Dick, meanwhile, is tired of Bruce overstepping boundaries, and Slade just offered him a chance to help a villain redeem himself while also rubbing B's nose in the fact that clinging so tightly is more likely to drive all his kids away than make anyone want to stay. Even Nightwing has a rep for cheerful spite. Stacker Pentecost is too tired for this; he's got a daughter pushing to join the program, said program to run, and the Becket brothers are enough of a headache. That said, if an internationally wanted mercenary is truly willing to join the program, he'll welcome Deathstroke. He just doesn't want to lose Grayson in the process, or the Wayne family funding for the program. Jason, meanwhile, wins Best Brother accolades, and not just for donning Nightwing while Dick pilots giant robots.

16 Title: in reverse, tragedy Word Count: ~12k Genre: Drama, Action Fandom/Universe: Batman, no specific canon Characters/Pairings: No Pairings, Dick Grayson, Jason Todd, Talia al Ghul Warnings: Dehumanization of Talons, Canon-Typical Violence, Decapitation Rating: PG Summary: Around two years after Batman fires Robin and Jason Todd (AKA Batboy) returns from an interstellar mission to find his sort of little brother missing, Talia al Ghul's jet touches down in Gotham. Her objective? Take revenge on the Court of Owls, the secret society hidden under Gotham that ordered Ra's al Ghul's death at the hands of a Talon, one of their personal assassins. During her mission, Talia is once again confronted by the Talon she fought when defending her father. After an intense battle in the Court's underground labyrinth, Talia defeats the Talon. As she unmasks him, she realizes that this Talon is the key to answering a question that has plagued even the Batman: what happened to Dick Grayson? (Sort of a Reverse Robins story, but more accurately a Mix-'Em-Up Robins story.)

17 Title: bury the dead where they're found Word Count: 8K-ish Genre: Action Fandom/Universe: Batman (Comics) Characters/Pairings: Dick/Koriand'r, Jason Todd, Bruce Wayne, Slade Wilson, Gotham Rogues Warnings: Graphic Depictions of Violence, Murder Rating: PG-13 Summary: After returning to Earth and discovering his little brother is dead, Dick Grayson finds himself questioning how heroic Batman's "No Kill" rule truly is. 18 Title: Coffee Shop Love Word Count: 7,494 Genre: Fluff, Romance, Crossover, Alternate Canon Fandom/Universe: DC Comics/MCU Characters/Pairings: Dick Grayson/Tim Drake/James "Bucky" Barnes, Owens/Pru/Z, Conner, Cassie, Bruce/Diana, Bart, Cassie/Cass, Jason/Roy/Kory Warnings: None Rating: PG-13 Summary: Five years ago, Tim Drake saved Bruce and walked away from his so-called family and with Owens, Z, Pru and Bucky Barnes the Winter Solider and started up a small coffee shop with only Conner, Cass, Bart, Cassie and Alfred knowing where he is. Tim was happy until the day the Bats and the Avengers found him. 19 Title: Against His Heart Word Count: 6,566 Genre: Angst, PWP, rape recovery, happy/hopeful ending Fandom/Universe: DCU, no particular canon Characters/Pairings: Dick Grayson/Roy Harper Warnings: Past rape/noncon, slut-shaming, consensual nonconsent Rating: NC-17 Summary: The morning after Dick Grayson learns that Tarantula has died in prison, he gets on a train. Somehow he ends up at Roy's place. Nobody knows about everything that happened with Tarantula; even Dick forgets parts of it. He wishes he could erase everyone who'd ever touched him, even if that would erase Roy, so that Roy could touch him anew. They decide to pretend, and play out a situation where Dick is a virgin. A few awkward hiccups and a whole lot of feelings come out. It makes Dick realize something he wants--something he needs, maybe. He wants to pretend to struggle and say no and for Roy to keep going. They pick a safeword, Dick promises to use it, and so he does. Most of the scenes will take place in Roy's apartment which is somewhere in south New Jersey. It's not an AU (i.e. they are superheros), but they're out of uniform for the story. This is definitely a PWP, with a focus on sexual trauma, beginning to heal from trauma, and hints of a burgeoning DickRoy romance. There are no flashbacks to rape, but there are mentions of it throughout, including Dick's feelings towards his own body and his thoughts during sex with Roy. For a majority of the fic, Roy believes that Dick's relationship with Tarantula was fully consensual, before Dick ends up telling him that it wasn't. Dick is a trans man, and Roy is a cis man.

20 Title: Stay Awake With Me Word Count: 10,738 of 40k Genre: Mystery, Case-fic Fandom/Universe: Court of Owls (comics) Characters/Pairings: Clark Kent/Bruce Wayne Warnings: Major Character Death, Violence Rating: NC-17 Summary: When Dick goes missing, the family works together to try and find him. When Bruce goes missing, the mystery only begins to show itself. In an investigation which will span decades, Clark must work together with the remaining members of the Batfamily to unravel the secrets of Gotham's underbelly, and not only stop the Court of Owls in their bid for power, but to also catch Talon!Bruce and Talon!Dick. The fic will explore two timelines: the 'present' timeline which deals with the court of owls plot and a 'past' timeline that explores Clark's role in the batfamily.

21 Title: The Maiden in the Tower Word Count: 6k complete so far, looking to be around 10-11k total. Genre: Urban Fantasy, Romantic Comedy, light Drama Fandom/Universe: primarily the pre-Flashpoint DC canon, though that’s more of a guideline than a hard rule. Characters/Pairings: Everyone Loves Tim Drake, ultimately Dick/Tim; Klarion the Witch Boy, Bruce, Barbara, Cass, Cassie, Kon and Bart all have prominent roles. Featuring cameos from as much of the DCU as I can fit in before the deadline, primarily Titans and Young Justice. Warnings: Low-key canon-typical violence and a ‘happily ever after’ kiss for two (full-grown) adopted brothers. Swearing. A few people get made the butt of jokes but it’s nothing too mean-spirited. Rating: PG-13 (technically R for swearing but content-wise it’s strictly PG-13) Summary: Klarion’s idea of the perfect birthday present is to trap Tim in the highest room (Bruce’s office) of the tallest tower in Gotham (Wayne Enterprises) and flood the rest of the building with a mix of living vines and fairy tale obstacles that can only be overcome by Tim’s true love. Shenanigans ensue as half the superhero community competes for the hand of the fair maid Red Robin. Pay-off is Dick/Tim but the lion's share of the page time is spent watching people fight fairytale tropes while Tim and Klarion snark with popcorn. Light-hearted comedy in which some characters get made to look the fool, ultimately gets no sexier than a True Love’s Ending Kiss. Set entirely within a vine-infested, magically-warped Wayne Tower with everyone from the Bats to the Titans to Tim’s civilian friends dealing with fairytale nonsense: glass mountains, living office supplies, pixies swarms, catching the cat who has the key to the next floor, etc. Meanwhile Tim hangs out in the penthouse with Klarion and a pint of ice cream watching the event like a reality show and getting dunked on for being an archetypal Disney Princess. Fun times for all with a light sprinkling of angst for flavor.

22 Title: The Antecedents to Reunion Word Count: 13,500 (out of approx. 20k) Genre: Steampunk AU, slice of life, case fic Fandom/Universe: Batman comics, drawing heavily from the Court of Owls storyline and Cass's Batgirl run Characters/Pairings: Cassandra Cain/Stephanie Brown (preslash), Tim Drake, Jason Todd, Damian Wayne, Dick Grayson Warnings: non-canonical limb loss, temporary character death, fake character death, grief/mourning, implied brainwashing, past child abuse, drug use in an interrogation by a minor character Rating: PG-13/Teen Summary: In a verison of Gotham that never existed, a version of Gotham where clockwork and steam bring the city through the night, Dick Grayson is believed to be dead, and Cassandra Wayne has just returned from Hong Kong. But as Cass settles back into the city, she quickly discovers that something-- or someone-- is trying to get her attention, and that the clock is ticking on how much time she has to figure it out. This is very much a "slice-of-life" fic, except it's set in a Steampunk AU. This story is set mostly in Gotham, with there being one flashback scene to Cass’s apartment in Hong Kong. In Gotham, characters go to the manor, a gala, an ice cream parlor, and the Iceberg Lounge. There is also a fight scene in Robinson Park against Poison Ivy, in a villain’s apartment against droids, and a brief chase scene across rooftops. The plot with the Court of Owls is fairly in the background of this fic, as the real focus is Cass, her relationships with the other bats, and the intricacies of mourning. This story has a hopeful ending, in that it ends with Cass discovering that Dick is alive, but the actual reunion is left to the reader’s imagination.

23 Title: With Blood and Rage of Crimson Red Word Count: 6,968 Genre: Angst, Action/Adventure Fandom/Universe: DCU, Batfam, Lantern Corps Characters/Pairings: Jason Todd, Bruce Wayne, Dick Grayson, Hal Jordan, Guy Gardener, John Stewart, Bleez, Rankorr, no pairings (however, I might include hints of Batlantern (HalxBruce) later) Warnings: Canon-Typical Violence, mentions of past underage attempted rape, mentions of past drug use, mentions of past child abuse Rating: PG-13 Summary: Jason was only 11 when his life was irreversibly changed. Now the newest member of the Red Lantern Corps, he is immediately thrust into a dangerous game where losing could mean death. With practically half the villains in the universe after him and the rest of the Lantern Corps, Jason must watch his step at every corner. To overcome this threat and find a way to save himself and the people he cares for, Jason must first overcome his own inner demons and learn to trust himself and the people around him. This story is set on multiple planets throughout the DC Universe. On Earth, we see Gotham City, the Batcave, and the Watchtower, in space, they travel to Ysmault and other planets that I made up for the purpose fo the fic (so you will have mostly free reign with the design of those planets if you choose to draw scenes involving them). This story involves canon-typical violence throughout. At the start, there are mentions of child abuse, and there is camera footage shown of attempted rape of a minor, but nothing explicit. At the start of the story, Catherine Todd is found by Jason post-OD and that is mentioned a few times throughout the story. The abuse and attempted rape are mentioned a little throughout the story, but not much, as it is not the focus, rather a back story for Jason. Other than that, there is no smut, or even pairings (unless I decide to do the Batlantern, but that will be a minor background pairing). There might be some language, but it is kept to a minimum.
~ ~ ~
24 Title: You Have Their Eyes (But You'll Never Have Their Smile) Word Count: 6,679 Genre: Action/Adventure, Mystery, Angst Fandom/Universe: DCU, Justice League Characters/Pairings: Jason Todd, Kyle Rayner, Donna Troy, Chris Kent, Lorena Marquez, Connor Hawke, possibly Jaykyle Warnings: Canon Typical Violence, Mentions of Past Character Death, might have some minor language Rating: PG-13 Summary: Eight years ago, the Justice League vanished into thin air. Since then, their proteges have been left behind to pick up the pieces of a broken world. Struggling to fill shoes that don't quite fit, the next generation of the Justice League is faced with their pasts as an old case makes a reappearance, eight years after the original Justice League closed it. This is set on Earth, in various locations like Wayne Enterprises, the Watchtower, the Whitehouse, Los Angeles, Malaysia, and Atlantis. As stated before, violence is a part of this fic, but nothing more than you would normally see in canon. Past character deaths are mentioned, including Jason's temporary death, and the supposed deaths of the original Justice League. There is cussing, but only like two or three words in the entire fic. There are also mentions of a court stripping away Donna's parental rights to Terry.

25 Title: Heavy the Head Word Count: 4k~ Genre: Greek Gods AU Fandom/Universe: No specific canon Characters/Pairings: Dick Grayson/Slade Wilson, assorted batfamily characters Warnings: No real warnings; there's some smut at one point in the fic Rating: NC-17 (overall it's rather tame, but some smut) Summary: Slade is an old nature god, one rather bored with the politics of Olympus. He is, however, rather fascinated by the reserved god of the dead Richard, remembering how different the boy was back when he truly was just a boy. He's always like oddities and figuring out puzzles, and Richard certainly is one at that. Dick would really prefer that everyone leave him alone to do the job he was assigned a millenia ago. Visiting Olympus brings him no peace, not when he knows he'll have to leave again soon, not to see his family for another century or so. Of course, there's always Slade, who's happy to give more than Dick is usually comfortable accepting. Not that that ends up being a bad thing. This story takes place in Mount Olympus, at a waterfall, and in the Underworld.

26 Title: Hearts Beating Side by Side Word Count: 3,600 Genre: Romance, Drama Fandom/Universe: Young Justice Verse Characters/Pairings: Garth - Tempest/Kaldur'ahm/Dick Grayson Warnings: Threesome, misunderstanding, pining, dirty talk Rating: Summary: On the precipice of changes in their lives, Garth and Kaldur find a momentary reunion and the repressed childhood love that they have both harbored for the other is reignited. But the weekend won't be an easy fall into long awaited love. Nightwing has reappeared after months of silence in the guise of his civilian persona, Dickie Wayne-Grayson. And even though he's playing the part of full-time playboy, Garth can see the spark that Dick lights within Kaldur. And it's not a one-sided feeling. A weekend of diplomacy is consumed by Garth and Dick's competing jealousy; each believing Kaldur has eyes for the other. Garth thinks Dick is leading Kaldur on, and Dick thinks Garth has won Kaldur's heart before the weekend even began. They bicker, and banter, until they Bang It Out. When Kaldur catches them, there's guilt, and confessions and polyamorous negotiations.

27 Title: hold onto the fire even if you have to burn Word Count: ~7k Genre: Angst with a happy ending Fandom/Universe: DCU (specifically Batfam) and post-Underworld Unleashed Characters: Dick Grayson, Jason Todd, Zatanna Zatara, John Constantine, Donna Troy Pairings: Dick Grayson/Jason Todd (endgame), Dick Grayson/John Constantine/Zatanna (temporary) Warnings: Threesome, rape/non-con mentioned, self-harm (through magic), depression, lack of self-worth, explicit content, graphic violence, temporary major character deaths. Rating: NC-17 Summary: Dick Grayson is no Batman. After Bruce Wayne refuses to resurrect the late Jason Todd, Dick takes matters into his own hands. Armed with the knowledge of a deal that didn't go through, Dick allies himself with Zatanna and Constantine in a bid to right the wrong that Bruce ignores -- even though souls come at a cost. Dick knows he's strong enough to take the pain to save Jason. But can he stop at Jason? Can he let his fallen friends and family stay dead? Dick is determined to save everyone he can, even if it means losing his soul. The story takes place in multiple locations, primarily in Gotham and Neron's throne room in Hell, with occasional switches to Bludhaven. Rape/non-con refers to past instances (Dick/Mirage, Dick/Catalina) that are discussed at length. Threesome takes place as part of a magic ritual. Self-harm is heavily implied through self-sacrificial actions and reckless behavior (as well as the literal deals with a devil). Graphic violence will be canon-typical. Deaths are canonical deaths and happen offscreen (with the exception of Donna Troy and Damian Wayne who die in front of Dick and are described vividly). There's an alternative ending that includes Dick Grayson dying, but that's only one of two endings that will both be written.

28 Title: The Deepest Secret Nobody Knows Word Count: ~6500 written (~15000 total) Genre: Romance Fandom/Universe: General DCU, Batman, Green Lantern Characters/Pairings: Bruce Wayne/Hal Jordan Warnings: Unintentional Exhibitionalism, characters/relationship being outed without their consent Rating: Explicit/NC-17 Summary: Hal and Bruce have been fucking for a full year, but have only been in an acknowledged relationship for six months. A jealous co-worker, who will stop at nothing to destroy Bruce Wayne, has a private romantic encounter between Bruce and Hal taped, then releases photos of the encounter to the press. Hal now finds himself thrust into a part of Bruce's life that he'd only had a vague impression of previously. While he believes that his and Bruce's relationship is solid, he's still left wondering if this will prove to be too much trouble to bother with, for himself, for Bruce, and for Bruce's family. Takes place primarily in Gotham (WEI offices, the Batcave, and the manor), with minor placement on the Watchtower, in Hal's apartment in Coast City, and varying Bruce boltholes around Earth. No serious warnings, other than semi-graphic/graphic sex.

29 Title: In the Shadow of the Empire Word Count: About 12 or 13k, just under 9k written Genre: SciFi, Action/Adventure Fandom/Universe: Batman (though no particular canon), Star Wars AU Characters/Pairings: JayDick, JayTim, implied DickTim, pre-DickTimJay, Cass, Steph Warnings: Graphic descriptions of violence, dub con Rating: NC-17 Summary: For most of the galaxy, life under the Empire's thumb was difficult, stressful, and painfully short. Dick and Jason knew this all too well, trying to keep their rustbucket of a ship in one piece while living job to job on the fringes of the Empire's control. It was a hard life, but as an ex-Jedi and a so-called 'troublemaker' wanted in multiple Empire systems, they didn't have much choice. But when a job goes wrong, they and their crew find themselves on the run from the Hand of the Emperor; a masked dark side user who is as feared as his origins are mysterious... and who is much more involved in Dick and Jason's past than either of them could guess. This story exists within a Star Wars setting, roughly around the time of the Original Trilogy. Scenes take place aboard Jason's ship, on a derelict Republic cruiser (i.e. no lights and without atmosphere or gravity), and on a small, heavily forested moon where the showdown happens between the ship's crew (Dick, Jason, Cass, and Steph) and Dark Side!Tim. The graphic violence is to the tune of blaster and lightsaber wounds. The dub-con occurs when Jason drunkenly sleeps with a stranger at a bar, who later is implied to be Dark Side!Tim undercover. This counts as dub-con because Tim is actively concealing his identity to get information out of Jason and because Jason would likely not have slept with him if he knew who he was and what he was doing.

30 Title: There Be Dragons Word Count: 6425 words Genre: Urban Fantasy, Dragons Fandom/Universe: Batman Characters/Pairings: JayDick Warnings: Descriptions of burning buildings, violence, some gore Rating: M Summary: In Gotham, there be dragons. A pureblood dragon, Bruce revolved his vigilante persona around his ancestry, to become, Dragonman. Dick’s dragonhood was a direct result of Bruce’s ingenious DNA bonding–a gift he now refuses to use. For a moment in his life, however, he tolerated it, for Jason. Then Jason died. For six months, as far as Dick and Bludhaven was concerned, there were no goddamn dragons. Then one night, fire licked the sky. No matter how fast Dick ran, swung and flew, it was too damn late. A casino was razed to the ground. Human bodies stacked in piles. The shadow of a red dragon’s wings flapped in a distance. There was no question, however impossible, who did it. Dick couldn’t believe it. Dick wouldn’t believe it. This dragon flew around in Dick’s city on a raging warpath, knowing more than he was letting on. Dick intended to find it, and stop it.

31 Title: When the Winds are Howling Strong Word Count: 3040 Genre: Found family, omegaverse, no capes AU Fandom/Universe: Batfam, Red Hood and the Outlaws Characters/Pairings: Jason Todd, Dick Grayson Warnings: Implied non graphic rape, intersex omegas, severe misogyny against omegas. Dick is a cop but he’s on leave through 90% of the fic Rating: PG-13/Teen. Nothing is graphic, but the topics are heavy Summary: Dick signed up to be a foster alpha, but never expected that he would actually be given an omega. Then Gorden’s men find an gang’s omega in heat and in bad shape. Since most foster alphas are searching for a mate, Dick is given custody over the omega. Jason was pulled off the streets by Joker’s gang when he was fifteen and life’s only gotten worse from there. As a gang omega, Jason served mostly as a form of recreation for the other gang members. After four years in hell, Jason’s given up all hope of escape. He’s got a new alpha who seems decent, but past experience has taught him those are the worst ones. Found family is the core of this fic. Dick helps Jason with his reintroduction into society/introduction to Gotham’s high society and both are forced to confront their internalized prejudices against other castes. It’s set in Gotham and explores both the slums and the glitzier districts. Jason and other male omegas will be depicted as wearing more feminine styles, including dresses and skirts. Key scenes: Dick taking custody of Jason, Dick and Jason growing used to each other, Tim and Damian meeting Jason by accident, Jason dumping out all of Dick’s liquor cabinet, Dick taking Jason shopping, Jason meeting Bruce and Alfred, Dick takes Jason to a gala and they work through a meltdown, Jason shows Dick where he used to live before Penguin and Joker, Dick and Jason fight after finding out everything Jason did in the gangs, Sheila makes an appearance, Jason is induced into an artificial heat, Dick and Bruce find Jason who is already making progress to rescue himself, End by Jason cutting the ribbon to an omega shelter.

32 Title: Midnight Rendezvous Word Count: 4000+ Genre: PWP, Drama Fandom/Universe: Batman, Nightwing/Grayson Characters/Pairings: Midnighter/Dick Grayson, Bruce/Dick Grayson Warnings: Explicit sex, References to violence, Maybe unsafe sex Rating: NC-17 Summary: Dick is tired of the Golden Boy act. Tired of waiting for Bruce’s approval. And he’s beyond tired of not being noticed... So tonight, he’s going to find someone one who will.

33 Title: crowns of violets and roses Word Count: 3009 Genre: Romance, Alternate Universe - Greek Mythology Fandom/Universe: Batman - All Media Types Characters/Pairings: Bruce Wayne/Jason Todd Warnings: Attempted non con, swearing, descriptions of violence Rating: Explicit (NC-17) Summary: Modern Hades & Persephone AU. After Bruce Wayne’s parents die, he becomes lord of the underworld, leaving the seasons and harvest unattended. Replacing him are the two Robins, Dick and Jason, spirits of spring and growth, but neither is able to fully step into the Waynes’ empty mantle. Things are further complicated when Dick wants to move on to a new role and Jason’s propositioned by another god. Bruce pulls Jason into the underworld, offering him sanctuary from the threats above. In the shadows, Jason finds both his strength and love. But without the work of both Robins, the land crumbles, threatening the lives of mortals and the power of the gods. The only solution is for Jason to return, unless Bruce is able to out think their enemies. The setting for this story is largely modern with stylized elements from different periods (gothic, art deco). The Underworld, which is the primary setting, is heavily influenced by Wayne Manor and the Cave from comics and the animated series. Other places can have a more Gotham art deco influence.

34 Title: Bruce Wayne, the Court of… Word Count: 4035 Genre: AU, humor, fluff, angst Fandom/Universe: Batman comics, Nightwing comics, Red Hood and the Outlaws comics, Batman: Under the Red Hood Characters/Pairings: Dick Grayson/Jason Todd, Bruce Wayne Warnings: rape, death, beating, abuse, violence, spoilers for: Forever Evil arc, Court of Owls arc, recent Nightwing comic arc, recent Batman comic arc, Red Hood and the Outlaws #25, Batman and Red Hood #20 Rating: T/Teen And Up Audiences /PG14+ Summary: Bruce had made many mistakes in his life. The most horrifying and disastrous were the ones involving his family. The way he treated them, deceived, hurt and used finally blew in his face and he had to face the consequences. There was no forgiveness for him now, not from any of them. But maybe there was a way to avoid it all. This story is meant as a fix-it to all the mess the canon turned into. While the story focuses on talking about canonical events there are a lot of headcanon/fanon/tropes put into it as well ie. romantic relationship between adopted brothers. And although the topics discussed are serious matters the fic itself is slightly crackish. The story takes place in Gotham during the Batman: Under the Red Hood events. At first the action is placed all over the city: rooftops, docks, parking lot, train station; for it to narrow down to an abandoned hotel room.

35 Title: Do You Love The Summer Like I Do? Word Count: 6116 words Genre: Romance, Action Fandom/Universe: Batman, Red Hood and the Outlaws Characters/Pairings: JayRoy Warnings: Descriptions of physical trauma, healing from injuries, violence, some gore Rating: M Summary: Those hazy nights spent blinking in and out of consciousness, events of Bruce cracking his hood open like an egg replaying like a neverending nightmare. Waking up to a stuffy bed, IV drips and the simmering heat. Roy’s dumb, handsome face hovering worriedly beside him. For those months of grueling physical therapy, Jason could depend on one thing to keep him going--Roy’ love. Jason would have put any grand plans of his to a screeching halt, if Roy asked him to stay on that island forever. But he had therapy to go to. Jason could respect that. Then, Roy died. And Jason missed the funeral. But unlike every other piece of shit who dared to call themselves Roy’s friends, Jason wasn’t about to let him lie. And he had a way of bringing him back.

REGARDING DAMIAN & DICK (and some other related things)
TW: depression, TW: suicidal thoughts
Ok, this is going to be partly canon and partly my own analysis of what I’ve read/seen in the comics.
I’ve read quite a few posts, both here and on other places regarding Tim and his views on the relationship between Damian and Dick. A lot of it, I haven’t agreed with and I thought I’d write a little about my own views and interpretations.
Some claim that Tim’s reaction when Dick announce that he’s taking Damian as his Robin is based on jealousy and rivalry, however, I disagree (even if jealousy is there at times, although imo it’s not the main reason in this case). Tim had lost many people, including his dad, the last year and a half or so when this happened and it’s hinted that he even was suicidal or at the least deeply depressed before Bruce ‘died’. His desperation could also be seen in his attempt to clone Kon.
Tumblr media
(Tim had just stopped this guy from jumping off a building and he asked if things got bad for them, as in heroes, too and you get to see Tim’s ghosts. The issue ends with Tim calling Dick to talk and also showing the number to a suicide prevention line.)
Anyway, having lost so much, his last stable part was being Robin and it was also his last connection to Bruce, presumed dead at the time. Dick had also promised him that everything would be okay and Tim most likely thought that if Dick was to make any changes, he’d talk to Tim first. Instead he just pulled the rug from underneath his feet. He’s not angry because he thinks he deserve the role of Robin more than Damian, he’s not jealous at him being Robin. Tim wouldn’t mind to eventually hand over the mantel to Damian, but he was just not prepared for this. Not after everything that had happened, not when it was his last ‘anchor’. He thought Dick understood that, but apparently he didn’t and to him it felt like betrayal, a kick straight to the chest. To Dick’s defense, he most likely didn’t understand how broken Tim felt at the time and he also wanted to help Damian, which he knew had to be hurting even if he wouldn’t say so. Tim do get Dick’s decision once he calmed down, but that didn’t mean it hurt less. Especially since he thought Dick understood him. And yes, I am aware that Tim pushed Dick to take over the cowl and become Batman. However, in the end, Dick still choose to do that. Tim had no choice in the matter of being or not being Robin.
Now to Damian and Dick being close. Once again I’ve seen people saying that part of Tim’s dislike for Damian is because he’s jealous of him taking Dick away from him. Sure, thoughts of a jealous nature have occurred, though more in the style of ‘of course he’ll focus more on/like Damian better, he’s Wayne by blood’ and so on (which is the only reason Tim can think of to why he had to fight and earn his respect and love while Damian just gets it).
Contrary to what some believe, he’s glad Damian has Dick (even if he wish he had him too). If anyone would be able to tame the demon brat, it’s Dick. In Tim’s eyes, Dick is good for everyone. Yes, Dick hurt him, but he still can’t help but admire him, even though he’s also angry at him. Same with Damian, he and the gremlin has a very tense relationship, but that doesn’t mean Tim wants him any harm. He doesn’t love Damian, yet, but he doesn’t hate him either and he knows how important the boy is to Dick, Bruce and Alfred, so he does his best to be civilized for their sake. Yes, he does get that Damian had a horrible upbringing, but being nearly killed during your first encounter(s) with someone tend to colour things in a certain way (especially since he also assumed he’d hurt Alfred in some way, though it turned out he only locked him inside a room) and I think we can all agree that Damian can be hard to like. Tim is trying (as I know Damian is too, even if Tim is sure Dami wants him dead and gone, at least sometimes).
Unfortunately, he knows the brat can hit on his nerves more easily than anyone else, which is why he tries to avoid him, which unfortunately also means avoiding the rest of the family too. Which make it seem like he pushed them away, making him even lonelier than he was before. Because that’s one of the big things too, loneliness. Tim has a special way of thinking: logical, analytical, but still caring. In many ways, he is similar to Bruce, though he’s not fully as.... emotionally constipated and not as hmm... neat freak-y (there’s ofc other differences too) and he isn’t always very easy to understand and not always as good at sharing his innermost feelings and thoughts, making him feel lonely (even if that might not be the case). Though the fact that no one believed him adds to it too. He isn't one to just jump the fence and although he didn't voice it well, I think they should've had more faith in him. Instead, everyone was pretty much calling him crazy, telling him it was all just grief and in his head instead of properly listening (although some therapy would’ve been good for him).
Okay, I feel like I’m rambling now and that I still can’t really get out everything I want to say. I might add to this post later on (or just write another one more about what's going on during RR), but all in all, Tim is not straight out jealous of Damian, it’s a bit more complicated than that. He doesn’t really like him (yet), but he still wants him well. Now, if Damian could just stop trying to stab him, Tim would be overjoyed. (That’s a joke btw)
As for Dick, he still loves him, even if he's hurt too. Their relationship has a few cracks that needs to be mended, but it's not beyond repair. And although I personally think Dick should've handled things better (and remember that Tim is technically a kid too), I do understand his decision and he was grieving too (and Tim wasn’t easy to be around then either). However, Tim isn't the most open one, but considering how close they were, he should as least have talked to him before taking Robin from Tim and given it to Damian (although Alfred shouldn’t have handed Dami the Robin suit without talking to the others either). And in rambling again. I'll definitely stop now.

So I just read a really great vent/rant from my friend at @fastestboyalive about DC Comics (you can read it here) and how they’ve dropped the ball and how hard they’ve dropped it. In it my friend mentions:
the DC’s continuous reboot scheme
nothing in DC is consistent right now so people are basically unable to follow most of what’s going on
we also don’t get consistent characters, backstories, memories, what is and isn’t canon anymore
it also means you feel like nothing really matters and there’s no stakes and no real relationships
storylines keep getting recycled at the rate that old fans are bored and new fans aren’t always able to pick up on references
major story arcs are started only to be undone or interferred with by cross-title arcs... not the same as arcs that are meant to be crossovers, no, arcs that are INTERRUPTED by cross-overs.
“ ‘too many comics OVERALL saturating the market’ holy shit what kind of garbage Marvel-blaming victimizing publicity, can you GET more childish–”
so after reading this I sat back and tried to work out not only why my friend’s words resonated with me but what feelings I had on the matter. I really love comic books and while I’m not actively reading either DC or Marvel right now, I’d still honestly be more inclined to pick up something from current Marvel over DC. And while I’m excited about the Young Justice cartoon and Doom Patrol TV show and Shazam! movie, all of those properties aren’t drawing from current comics- they’re drawing from the plethora of backlogged stories. In fact, the only title I was invested in in DC, the one I was already planning on buying trades of, got cancelled - Super Sons - and Jon Kent has been aged up, mind wiped, and replaced. In another twist of fate, two of my all time favourite Flash members (Dawn Allen and Jenni Ognats, mother and daughter) got combined for the Flash TV show and renamed. I wasn’t floored by this, they had messed around with many of the Flash characters. But I was still upset. If loving a DC character is hard, so often they get killed off, tortured, mind and character wiped, or just disappear from the comics all together, it’s usually worse to love a female DC character. If it’s not to sell on the girl’s toy market then they are often the first ones dropped in a storyline or adaptation. There’s many female speedsters but they’re not given their own solo books.
But moving on from adaptations, and the Flash family, I guess my biggest point here is that DC simply doesn’t understand their audience or what this audience wants. From everything I’ve heard or seen the new Young Justice title IS something people want, and have been asking for for years now. But the lingering feeling is a) how long will it last and b) will any of it really matter? Bart could die or ‘disappear’ tomorrow, Tim could lose all memories of this event, and everything could be pulled out as ‘not canon’ tomorrow or leave you guessing whether it IS or ISN’T canon. Already Tim is ‘Robin’ again, instead of Red Robin... but Damian is also Robin. Who’s really Robin??? If Bart exists and is the same Bart, then does Bar-Torr still exist? Is that no longer canon? And if Bart is the same then does Jenni exist? Do the Tornado Twins? If Kon is Superboy and Jon is Superboy... they’re both Superboy? That’s not confusing at all.
We can debate whether the original reboot DC had in mind was a good or bad idea. I hated that they did it but I could sort of understand the reasoning- get new people into comics, try and inject new sales, fine. And it had its own rules, own timeline, reset, etc. The problem now is that there ISN’T any rules. NO timeline. NO continuity. NO relationships. And DC has no respect for its own properties, they don’t care about their own characters and it shows. At its core DC Comics had these amazing relationships- family, friendships, romance. You take away that core and there’s just nothing. And any time it starts to get better, it starts to get fixed, we start to feel that soul to these stories again it’s gone. If they want to combat sales they need new writers, people who love and understand these stories, and they need rules and boundaries. Not on creativity but on continuity. They need to build up stories and arcs and relationships again, they need to make it all matter and mean things, and not to blast it away within a few months when the writer gets bored. There needs to be stakes.
And they need to do away with shock factor and let those relationships flow. Many of these stories are about families- whether a family like the Flash family or a family of friends like Teen Titans and Young Justice- and they don’t matter unless people actually know and love each other. And to love takes time when you don’t have those memories and backgrounds.
All in all DC just needs to understand what their base wants, they need to hire writers who both CAN write and CARE about what they’re writing, and it needs to value its own characters and stories.

Word Count : 1804
To read it on AO3
Author’s notes (Under the Cut) :
Happens after Young Justice #46 Especially after this obviously it’s about the Our World at War arc, this moment of YJ #38 play an important part of this.
As the summary says : “If you love them put your pride aside and apologize” is one of the worst advice I’ve ever seen in stories on how to deal with problems. It’s, luckily, something Young Justice never did but they passed over this and it bothered me so here’s a filler, that explains how Tim and Kon’s friendship really started. Because I think this talk with Supergirl helped shape Kon so much and it especially helped in his friendship with Tim.
Kon couldn’t help but feel a little anxious as he stood in front of Robin’s door. Still he steeled his nerves and knocked. Hoping Robin -Tim, he had wanted to know the name of the closes person he had to a best friend for months but wasn’t used to it yet- had somehow disappeared into a parallel universe or, more simply, gone back to Gotham without any of them noticing, so he wouldn’t answer his door. His hope disappeared as the door opened revealing the former/new member of Young Justice in all his Robin glory, including the damn mask. But Kon was just happy to have the boy back and forced the remark back in his mind. It sadly reminded him on the reason for his fidgeting in front of Robin’s -Tim’s- door. Said Robin looked surprised to see Kon -and why wouldn’t he?- but opened his door nonetheless:
“Hey Kon, do you want something?” He paused, seemingly remembering something and asked as he sat himself on his desk chair “Is it urgent ? Because it’s pretty late I was going to go back to Gotham.”
Kon recoiled a little but steeled himself again (he had quite a few jokes about him stealing Steel’s ability to Steel himself).
“I’m not sure, but I really don’t want it to wait another day. I’d rather have it be done and over with.”
Tim -he got it right, finally!- stiffened slightly. “Look if you’re having second thoughts about me coming back-”
“What? No dummy! I just kept moping around without you and Bart. It just didn’t feel right without the two of you.” Kon replied as he waved off Tim’s comment like it was a personal offence. He paused then sighed and dropped on Tim’s bed as looked at his feet -it’s not like he could look the boy in the eyes anyway. “But it is linked to that.” He took a deep breath. “The thing is, I get why you left but dude, you never even said goodbye. I mean you did to the others but I came back to Cassie spouting something about forgetting what she said before and I tried the apology I wanted to make to you on her -not that it was completely false, after all I should have listened to her but she still took it weirdly. You were already gone and I get that you felt like you had to leave but you didn’t even try to talk things through with us.”
Kon was almost breathless -or as breathless as he could be anyway- and everything was silent for a few minutes as Tim seemed to take it in before answering calmly.
“I’m sorry Kon I didn’t know you were going to apologize, it’s just that my Identity is linked to Batman’s and I wasn’t going to betray his trust no matter what. So you would have kept being frustrated and so would I and…I had a lot of stuff to deal with at that point and It just didn’t seem to be worth the struggle. But now that you know my real name it’s a moot point anyway”
“But it’s not!” Kon yelled as he stood up, frowning at Tim. “The point is still there. You just said it yourself we weren’t worth the struggle. I can get the girls, maybe, but Bart and I weren’t worth the struggle. You didn’t even reveal your name we just found out because of the situation. Would you have ever come back without it? Or if you had stayed would you have ever revealed your name without the Bedlam situation? Would you care enough to? Tim my apology was only about my behavior because I do cherish what we had but the truth is that because of this whole secret I.D thing what we had amounted to almost nothing. The only reason you’re my best friend is because, everyone left me, I lost touch with my former team and I live in a lab and am mostly surrounded by adults so that Young Justice is the only place where I have real actual friends and Bart acts like a three years old most of the time, Cissie left, Cassie has a crush on me so she acts weirdly from time to time, Greta mostly has eyes for you but she also behaves like a kid who’s around Bart’s age, Lobo is annoying and Anita is mostly friends with Cassie even if she is great. You’re my best friend by default because of that but from the little I knew about you when you were not being Condescending Leader I knew we could be friends but never really were. I was frustrated because no matter what you never opened up and you were distant and I get that it’s your role as Robin but do you even understand the kind of frustration I, Bart, the rest of the team went through? I wanted to apologize for my behavior but not for my frustration. So no. It’s not a moot point!”
If Kon was breathless before then now he didn’t know what it was. He felt vulnerable in a way he had tried to avoid for months. Tim seemed speechless too and, while he was afraid he’d make Rob-, Tim leave again, he couldn’t stand by and let it fester. He just wasn’t made of that wood. He tried but he wanted to be friends with Tim and he knew they could be but for that they needed to really be on the same page. He hoped Tim understood that. But if he didn’t Kon wouldn’t be able to stand being in the same place and he already had to change his whole life and go live in Hicksville, he didn’t want to have to deal with Tim leaving again or them just ignoring each other. Kon startled when he felt Tim sit beside him. He had almost forgotten they were in the same room. And now they were only a few inches apart which was surprising for Mr. “I’m the mini Night even if I definitely not as bad as my mentor”. Tim took off his mask and looked at Kon while also trying to avoid complete eye contact and started fidgeting too. Holy Awkwardness Batman. Tim’s eyes started looking all around the room as he started talking:
“Kon I’m sorry that’s not what I meant. I just thought it was obvious. I wasn’t here by obligation we created this team simply to have an excuse to hang out. It took me barely two weeks before I started asking Batman to tell you my identity. Showing you my face was almost like Christmas because of how relentless he and Nightwing are about not giving a hint about who we might be. I, I would have left before if I really didn’t care enough to tell you my name. After the Olympics probably, or that thing with Doiby or when we ended up on New Genesis. But then there was… I wasn’t ready to tell my name to Spoiler, I mean we went through some stuff that definitely brings people together but things became too serious too fast and we hadn’t completely connected and, it’s just, it was pretty complicated and then Batman revealed my identity to her simply because he was petty and didn’t want to talk with one of the people I was living with but was worried because I had been trapped for a couple of days and they had no idea of my whereabouts. So I was having trust issues with him myself and then you compared me to him and said you didn’t trust me and it was, just too much to deal with. I’m not…good at this stuff so I needed to remove myself a little from the situation in order to deal with it on my own before being able to face anyone. I’m sorry I’m not used to having so many people to deal with and I got overwhelmed. You’re right we were never really friends and that’s why it wasn’t worth it for me. It wasn’t about you and Bart it was about me having to cut my losses and I just didn’t see any way this would end well and it just seemed simpler to cut ties then than after the tenth time we’d have accidentally killed each other because of our arguments. And I…I knew you wouldn’t take it well and I just. I was a coward and took the easy way out, leaving with Bart when he left.”
They were touching now, right thigh and knee against left thigh and knee, right shoulder to the elbow against left shoulder to the elbow. It was comforting, even if they were both awkward. Neither used to contact that didn’t come from a girl (and what was up with that? Sure he really liked girls but he didn’t actually have an issue with hugging guys, so why did he never do it? Not that it would be the case here. Tim would probably go back into his rabbit hole if he did one more move)
“Ok”
“Ok?” Tim looked up and turned his head back toward Kon. “What’s Okay?”
“Well you know, Okay I get it, you’re forgiven. Wait Am I forgiven?” Kon frowned. He had assumed he was, but maybe it made it worse, maybe-
“Of course, you are. We were both victims of the circumstances and we’re both jerks. And you were right. We needed to talk, I’m glad we cleared that up now.”
Kon couldn’t help but beam at that. And with that simple talk, he and Tim had been more vulnerable to each other than they had been to anybody else in a while. With that they were really starting to build a friendship. And now he understood what Supergirl had told him. Apologizing wasn’t about who was right or wrong, it was simply about opening communication. It’s something he wished was explained on TV instead of simply using the “you love them so put your pride aside and apologize” logic. Because things didn’t work like that. While putting your pride aside was important, ignoring that you considered something wrong or that something hurt you was more detrimental to the relationship (no matter what kind) than anything else. And Kon just wanted to have one relationship to go right in his life and if it was with the clearly emotionally wrecked boy with whom he had a strange connection, well, then so be it1.
So when Tim started to leave for Gotham, Kon went back to the Kent’s farm and even if he had to live there now. He couldn’t help but be happy because this time he could really call Tim his friend, even his best friend and absolutely mean it.
Author’s Note 2 : Hope you enjoyed it :)That advice from YJ #38 is something that matters to me a lot because usually in fiction when someone gives the advice to apologize whether you’re right or wrong it’s to finish an argument. However here Supergirl’s advice while similar, proves to not be when she gives the alternative to Kon. Because it’s not about finishing an argument but opening a dialogue. It’s something that always bothered me in other fictions because the person apologizing (whether the narrative considered they had actually been wronged or not) were hurt. And they’re literally apologizing for being hurt. So this issue back when I first read it was a jewel. Also we’ve seen Conner use a similar technique at least twice on Tim (the only two times Tim did something stupid to him) so I’m pretty sure he took it to heart.

I just want to say that I LOVE your blog, you are always so kind and nice!!! And I just want to ask this to you, I hope this won't start any drama. Have you noticed how Bendis is writing Damian and Jon together but when Its Tim and Kon he is like, he haven't read anything about them together... and this annoys me. I just wanted to see them together more but, YJ is all about some stupid love story and some other characters...
The way he writes Damian and Jon severely bugs me dearly, because Damian and Jon didn’t have a healthy relationship at all. They fought all the time. Even physically quite a bit. I’m not even sure if Damian genuinely looked at Jon as a friend the majority of the time.
Like:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
They did not have a healthy relationship at all. I’ve seen people try to pass it off as Damian being “immature” but causing someone to be put into physical pain, is past immature, and put into sadistic.
The fact Tomasi gave them a few moments to somewhat pass off as normal friends really bugs me, because since Super Sons is a series read primarily by people it panders to, and children. It seems really bad to me, Kids shouldn’t be given the impression this is what friends are like.
Your best friend shouldn’t hit you in the face and let you get beat up one moment, but suddenly act like a completely separate person in another moment. That’s emotionally abusive, manipulative, and straight up physically abusive.
The only time these guys actually got along was when they had Damian act out of character. Which made his character occasionally inconsistent over anything else, because it’s not character development if it doesn’t fit the character, and the character goes back to how they were after anyway.
Giving them two or three out of character moments to seem a little cute doesn’t work for me, because it just makes it poor writing rather than character growth or what ever people will pass it off as.
Making them seem more supportive isn’t good writing, because it’s not within their already established characters and relationship. Nor do I consider it character growth, because it happened out of no where, and isn’t within Damian at the moment given what he’s actually been like.
Personally, I think the best for them is them just accepting Damian was abusive and moving on, because I don’t want kids thinking their abusive relationship is okay just cuz the abusive one acts like they’re friends and isn’t completely horrible some of the time.
So Bendis writing them more together so far on a one on one more personal bases, and more supportive at that is really aggravating when he hasn’t yet done that for Tim and Conner besides one conversation, and he hasn’t made Tim and Conner super supportive at all.
Perhaps maybe Tim saying they’d all go along to S.T.A.R Labs with him can be viewed as supportive, but when they actually acted in the vein Bendis tried to portray Damian and Jon as in the latter half of his Superman Super Sons issue, it gets disheartening to wanna read anymore, because it gets confusing why he bothered doing some of this stuff.
Although I will say this:
I am not upset Conner is going to an alternate universe again. More accurately I’m upset that the second arc of Wonder Comics Young Justice ever happened, because it was a waste of time, and that they haven’t represented Tim and Conner’s close friendship since issue 5 or so. 6 issues ago.
Like, if this was the second arc (ignoring Drake, and how that’s so out of character for Tim), I wouldn’t honestly be that annoyed, because as long as they had stuffed a little more character in their interactions while they were still together. That would be all I need.
I don’t need EXACTLY what I want down to the T. I just keep to my standards of having the story at least not be completely badly told, timed, or what else, and making sure the characters are in-character.
However the fact that Tim and Conner, aren’t really shown interacting much on panel is really ridiculous to me. Tim started his whole journey to Metropolis, because of Conner.
Even during that Earth 3 story. Why did Bendis write Bart to save Tim from getting shot instead of Conner? Just write it a little differently, and id feel more natural, not because Bart hates Tim or something, they’re on best friends lists with each other too, but because it feels like Conner should be more in a rush to be near Tim and vice versa, since that’s what they built up between the two.
Otherwise it just feels disjointed and unnatural from the first arc, where it was a big deal for Tim to find Conner.
They build them up like they’re gonna be attached to the hip, but if they hung out at Naomi’s place it was off screen.
There needed to at least be more of that moment where Tim is more openly supportive of Conner finding out about S.T.A.R Labs. Something to make their best friendship come alive a bit more.
Bendis is a weird writer to me: Because, despite my hatred of “Drake”, and the Earth 3 arc. I actually still quite like him. Believe it or not I still consider him one of my favorite writers. His Legion run has been garbage so far, and a few of his Superman arcs have been super confusing, but overall I actually really like him.
Those first 4 issues of Young Justice are my favorite comics ever, and I hold them dear to me. I have a binder I hold them in, even if that is kind of dorky.
(Even if I think Bendis really needs to work on Damian’s voice when it comes to talking about him in general, because he has him being way too nice with Jon, and he has Damian say things Damian never would.)
Besides some nitpicks, like Bendis not understanding how adorkable Tim can be, and also ignoring the Earth 3 arc, and “Drake”, I’d say Bendis has been Tim’s best writer in about a decade, if not maybe even MORE.
I would go that far with it, ignoring those things of course.
But it seems like when Bendis is bad, he’s really baaad, but I hope he can get better. He is still new with these characters, but he’s already screwed over Tim and made him into a laughing stock.
I’m hoping he gets better before he ruins more characters.
