I think one of the most surprising parts of transition, specifically going on testosterone, is just how... normal it felt to me. When I was watching other people go on testosterone and describe how they felt, I anticipated that I'd feel the huge emotions, the spark, I guess. But I didn't. If anything, I went from being a neurotic mess to being... normal. Almost painfully normal. It's like I've gotten a cloth and dusted off this thing I call my body.

I honestly think it's interesting how natural I feel on testosterone. I never really thought I could feel this normal, but I do. It's like I can stand in a crowd and not feel like eyes are watching me, like ants crawling on a log.

.....OK so my absolute favorite interpretation of a/b/o comes from a wtnv fic but the basics of the dynamics are explained by the author here. This fic and interpretation honestly changed the way I thought about a/b/o fics entirely, I can't go back to the usual alpha/omega stuff because the world building was just *chefs kiss* so good and I'll never get it anywhere else.

All that to say, even though I think my interpretations of the characters falls in line with what people usually think of as their endotypes(a/b/o type) boy howdy I have a very different reasoning behind it. A/B/O thoughts under the cut.

So..... we can start with the easy ones.

Price is an alpha. Bedrock of the 141, he's making sure all of his ducks are in a row. He has a desperate intrinsic need to make sure his pack is well taken care of and settled, he tries not to be overbearing but if threatened even an old dog bears its teeth. Price is an alpha through and through, so he tends to get stressed when his pack is out of sorts but he's also the fastest to take charge in a crisis.

Gaz is a beta, likely on the alpha end of the spectrum but I think he's close to a true beta. He'd unflappable, the person you want in a crisis because he will jump to trying to solve it instead of panicking. I think Gaz has the privilege of being able to sort of peak at both sides of the spectrum, and he's able to charm both alphas and omegas.

König is an alpha, probably the highest spectrum alpha around. The man screams alpha, he's the stereotype. Except that he isn't. He doesn't seem particularly eager to pack bond with anyone, so his protective instincts always ring sort of hollow. He's definitely got the same itch Price does but he's highly selective with it, he doesn't want to waste his care on people that won't stick around and being a mercenary means a revolving door of people and no solid pack. It makes him anxious but he can't tell the rest of KorTac that...

Soap... hm, I want to say Soap is an omega. Emotional regulator of the pack, usually the one keeping the rest in line. I do think he has what would be considered a "typical" omega demeanor but he also could not emotionally regulate his way out of a box. I think he's a high alpha spectrum beta who's from a big family, meaning he's wrapped himself up in omega mannerisms to seem less threatening to pack order. He fits in well in the military because he doesn't want to take over the pack, but still has that alpha proclivity towards protecting his own. He's another bedrock addition to a pack without threatening anyone's position, and his ability to blend in with omegas is absolutely invaluable.

Ghost, oh Ghost... this is where I think I might be insane. I think Ghost has a hormonal issue. I think he presented as an omega and that wasn't going to fly in the Riley household so he forced himself to act like an alpha and wouldn't you know it his hormones flipped after a year or so. Great now he's an alpha! He joins the military, earns his stripes, a year or two go by and oops his hormones have flipped again. Just in time to go home and fix his family because the omega nesting instinct is in full effect. Another hormone flip a few years later and he's an alpha again, he gets back in the service and shit hits the fan, he feels good(with his hormones) feels settled(its been a while since his last switch), he goes home to find his family dead and another hormone flip happens. He joins the 141 with a designation as an alpha and he plays the part well, takes the suppressants, hides his heats, waits for the next flip to happen. Price knows, medical knows, Soap and Gaz can guess, but it's strictly off the record. The best guess is that it's a stress response, but at this point Ghost is just living with it. People assume he's an alpha because of his size and strength(neither of which go away when his hormones flip) so it's easy to hide but it does make him irritable. While he's an omega he's the emotional regulation of the pack, sits on the couch and purrs silently while Gaz and Soap sleep on either side of him. He plucks nervously at the blankets and pillows, nesting around the sleeping sergeants. He usually spends his heats alone because he tends to get... aggressive. He's not looking for sex he's looking for a fight and it's better for him to lock himself away than deal with accidentally killing a recruit. Sometimes someone else in the 141 will sneak in to help Ghost out, and they'll be sore for days.

you waddled your way into shuri’s lab. being 4 months pregnant, you became extra clingy than usual and your hormones were all over the place. you figured spending some time with shuri might calm you down a bit.

you walked in and instantly noticed shuri’s frustrated state. you saw the images displayed on the blue screen in front of her, and remembered that this was the project she’d been stressing on a lot lately. it was a security system for the palace. she wanted to reinforce the building as you’d be welcoming a child soon, and wanted to keep it safe so that no harm would ever come to your child.

her muscles were tensed. you slowly walked up to her and covered her eyes with your palms. “guess who?”

“oh, is that riri?”

you swiftly moved your hands from her eyes to slap her on the arm. she giggled and turned around to give you a hug, mindful of your growing baby belly.

“hello, my love. i missed you. and you.” she said, moving down to kiss your baby bump.

“i saw how worked up you looked. wanna take a break and get some ice cream?”

for some reason, hearing shuri yell at griot triggered something in you. you started crying and walked up to shuri, grabbing the end of the table as you tried to stabilise yourself.

the sight was hilarious. just you and griot sobbing together. shuri figured out that there was a bug in her system so she resolved that to make griot stop sobbing.

at first, she didn’t know how to calm you down. but then she realised what she had to do.

“griot.” she cleared her throat.

“yes, panther?” by now griot stopped sobbing and spoke clearly.

“i apologise for my rude behaviour. even though you’re an ai and have no feelings, i must still speak to you nicely. i hope we can move on from this and still work together?”

you stopped crying after that and wiped your cheeks. you smiled at shuri.

I was wondering about what exactly it means in the Clans to be a tom, molly, neither, etc. And to transition fron one to another. (Regarding your post however long ago about how they don't label things and just say stuff like "she was a tom and now she's a molly") Basically I'm asking what's the concept of gender/gender roles for them if that makes sense? I didnt notice any clear differences between treatment or opportunity for them but I also haven't read it in awhile so what I do remember at all is kinda fuzzy, and generally male and female cats don't look much different so I guess I'm just curious if it's just more of a vibe thing or not /gen

All joking aside, the clans very much do not have gender roles! Transness therefore looks very different to them. While it sometimes comes with bodily dysphoria (for instance, Russetfur does not like any of the tom characteristics she has. When she takes a mate and they have kittens, she opts for a surrogate instead of siring the kittens herself due to that dysphoria) it usually has more to do with identity and, to a point, parenthood.

A lot of the time, a cat becomes because they want to honour or embody a piece of someone else. If Whitestorm had lived, he would have decided to be a molly based on his close relationships with the mollies in his life, especially Bluestar and Frostfur. What that means is different to every cat, about as individualistic as transness in real life.

And then sometimes it has to do with parenthood. Redtail lies more in this category--he related heavily to his father, Thrushpelt, and they were a big influence on why he decided to be a tom. Things went a little awry when he had kittens, because he had trouble reconciling that with his identity, but once he no longer needed to nurse them he felt a lot better about being a parent.

Mossflower is also a good example! Before she had Greystripe, Mossflower identified as a tom. When she had her first litter, though, she decided she wanted to be a mother (has to do with her feelings around Bluestar, who was very distant, and Rosetail, who helped raise her in Bluestar's stead). In Darkest Hour, she'll make the decision to return to tomhood, because she's finished having kittens and isn't as much a mother anymore (to that point, though, her kittens will continue to call her mom!)

The Town cats are a different story, though. They don't have much of a central sort of culture, so gender can range from being very tied to sex to not at all. Brick has no strong feelings about anything to do with their sex OR gender, hence the they/them pronouns. When they eventually got neutered, they weren't too bent out of shape about it--and in fact they found they enjoyed the new hormone-free mindset.

The knob for the hot water makes that annoying, loud, and squeaky noise it always does when you close the tap, ending the very long shower you had just took. You reach outside of the shower and grab the towel on top of the shelf, stepping out of the shower as you begin to start drying your hair. Probably not the safest idea, but you survived.

After getting your hair a bit more dry so it at least isn't dripping ice cold water down your back, you wrap the towel around your waist and make your way towards the sink, which happened to have a very large mirror right above it. Unfortunately, you and mirrors don't get along very well.

You had never been able to handle mirrors, even when you were a kid. Something always felt... off, whenever you looked in a mirror—or any reflective surface—as if the person you were looking at was a complete stranger. Even now, when you finally discovered who you truly were, you sometimes still felt like you're looking at a stranger. And, of course, when you finally look up and lock eyes with yourself in the mirror, the feeling comes back.

Well, you didn't necessarily lock eyes with yourself. You more so stared at the two scars on your chest from the surgery you had gotten about two years ago—the surgery that removed two certain body parts that were preventing you from being who you truly are. It was supposed to help you feel more comfortable and content in your body. But, so far, that hasn't happened. Not once. In fact, it's done the opposite. It's just made you feel like shit. Especially now, as you stare at the scars, reminded of the fact that you had to get surgery in order to get a flat chest instead of being born in the correct body.

An overwhelming amount of thoughts start to flood your head. Why do I have these scars? Why couldn't I have been born a boy? Why do I have to get surgeries and hormone therapy to be who I'm meant to be? Why am I not a real boy? Why do I have to be this way? Why was I born this way? Why do I deserve this? Why did I get the surgeries? Why do there have to be scars?

You couldn't focus on anything except staring at the scars, and the deafening sound of the thoughts in your head. You never noticed when your boyfriend, Changbin, knocked on the bathroom door before walking into the bathroom. He hadn't heard anything from the bathroom for quite a while, and he was concerned that you had gotten hurt or something. He had been knocking for about two minutes before deciding to go in. When he noticed you just standing there, staring into the mirror, he was confused at first.

"Y/N-hyung?" You give no reaction, as if you didn't hear him. "Hyung?" He tries again, this time walking up to stand next to you. "Hyung, are you okay?"

You don't react when he places his hand on your shoulder, just staring blankly at your chest in the mirror. By the way Changbin gently shakes your shoulder, you take a guess he's going to speak again. You cut him off before he opens his mouth. "Scars..." Your voice comes out just barely above a whisper. Changbin can hardly hear it, but even then, he can hear the slight pain in your voice. "Why do there have to be scars...?"

He immediately knows what you're talking about. It isn't the first time you've gone through this; and it most definitely won't be the last. However, although this isn't the first time Changbin has tried to help you, it's still a rather new thing he's not quite used to yet.

You had warned him, when you and him decided to make your relationship official, that things like this happened a lot with you. You had also said that he doesn't have to try and help you through it, you usually were able to handle it on your own, but he insisted he would be there for you whenever you needed him. Whenever Changbin had even a passing thought that you might be feeling bad about yourself, he always reminded you to please, please tell him so he can be there for you. But, of course, you never did. You always felt like a burden whenever you even attempted to reach out for help, it didn't matter to who it was.

"Hyung," Changbin starts, "come on, don't think like that." He looks around for a moment, as if making sure no one else was around. "Here."

Your eyes widen a bit when you notice your boyfriend beginning to take off his shirt. "Changbin, what the hell are you doing?"

Once he has fully taken off his shirt, he turns towards you a serious expression yet a silly grin on his face. "Look, I have boobs!" Changbin exclaims rather excitedly, tossing his shirt aside and spreading his arms so his chest is on full display. "They're huge too! And guess what?"

You can't help the small grin that makes its way to your face, no matter how hard you had tried to hide it. "What?"

Your boyfriend smiles proudly when he hears you laugh rather loudly at his response. When he notices you had calm down just enough so you weren't moving very much, he takes his first opportunity to wrap his arms around your waist and bury his head in your shoulder. You were a bit caught off-guard at first, but soon hugged him back.

"I love you, Y/N, I love you. I'm here for you, whenever you need it, no matter what. Please don't forget it. Please tell me when you feel bad, physically or mentally. I want to help you, no matter what it is. Please let me help you."

It was odd. For the first time in your life, you got the feeling that you could trust him—believe what he said. You've heard the same and similar words said to you by your past boyfriends and past friends, never once have you believed them or trusted them. At least, you never trusted them as quick or as much as you trust Changbin right now, and you never believed them as quickly as you believe him. "Okay... I promise." You can't see it, but you know he's smiling.

After a few more moments of the hugging, you lightly nudge him away. "Alright, could you go back to the bedroom so I can get changed now?"

Changbin smiles. "Of course."

Hearing the alarm going off in the morning at 6.30 is painful enough. But the day has another surprise for me. When I try to sit up in bed, I can feel the pain stabbing my lower stomach. But it doesn’t make sense…my period is not due for another 3 days.

I get up to go to the toilet and can see the confirmation that my period decided to visit me a little early. How nice. I guess it missed me but I can’t reciprocate the feeling.

Fighting the pain, I go to the kitchen to try and eat some food just so I can take some tablets for the pain. There is no way I can go to work if I don’t get some relief for this debilitating pain.

My periods didn’t use to be this bad but a year ago something changed in my body and now I always fear this monthly day of pain.

Rúben: see you tonight! Do you want me to pick you up from work? Xx

Right, I forgot about my date with my boyfriend. And…as much as I would like to have him with me, hugging me with those strong arms, he can’t see me today. We’ve only been dating for two months and I don’t want him to see me like this. Also, my ex was an asshole that instead of supporting me when the periods got worse, just told me not to talk to him about it because it was “gross”.

I hate to be like this but I fear Rúben might do something similar. And I can’t deal with that heartbreak while my hormones are making my moods so weird.

I hate lies so much. But this one is necessary. For now at least.

At exactly 5 pm, I close my laptop and put it on my coffee table. I take a deep breath, which causes the cramps to feel even worse and just lie down on the sofa, closing my eyes and willing the pain to go away.

After a couple of minutes, I get up to grab some water and another tablet but the doorbell interrupts my little trip. Who could it be? A delivery?

“Rúben?”

“Do you want to explain to me why you lied?”

I take another deep breath and now that I’m standing, it causes me to bend down from the horrible pain.

“Hey, what’s going on? Are you ok?”

He kneels down in front of me, trying to see my face for clues of what could be happening but I keep trying to hide.

“Just go. Why are you here? I told you I couldn’t see you”.

But he doesn’t listen. He just picks me up and closes the door before taking me to the sofa so I can lie down there again.

“Hot water bottle, medicine, all your work stuff right here…you could have just told me you were sick. Are you afraid it’s contagious?”

“You definitely can’t catch this”, I say, my voice weak from how much pain I’m in.

“What is it then…”, but then he sees me holding my stomach and gets it. “Yeah, not something I’ll catch”.

His laugh confuses me. Is he making fun of me now? Or is it just me being paranoid because of how my ex acted?

“Yeah, well, now that you know you can leave”.

“I’m not leaving you while you can barely move because of the pain you’re in. What do you need?”

“Water for my medicine”, I don’t even get to finish the sentence before he gets up to go to the kitchen.

I try to sit up before he comes back so I can take the tablet and when he sees me, he runs towards the sofa again.

“Don’t move. I’ll help you”.

“It’s fine, thank you”.

Tablet is taken, now time to wait.

“You can leave. I’ll be fine in a bit”.

“Can you get through that thick skull of yours that I’m not leaving?”

“But it’s just…girl stuff”.

His confused face is quite adorable.

“Doesn’t this gross you out?”

“Why would it?”

“Because I have my period”.

He’s still confused but chuckles slightly.

“I mean, I don’t want you to be in pain but given we’ve only been together for two months, I’m quite happy to know your period keeps visiting you”.

His words make me laugh, which causes more pain from the cramps and the laugh turns into a groan.

“Sorry”, he says, putting my head on his lap. “I’ll stop being so hilarious until you’re no longer in pain”.

I close my eyes when he starts to play with my hair and just let that soothe me while the tablet keeps working its magic and getting rid of the annoying cramps.

“Is there something you want to eat?”

“My stomach doesn’t feel great but I could eat some soup. I’ll make some in a bit”.

“No, you won’t”, he says, moving a bit to get his phone out of the pocket of his jeans. “I’ll order you some from that place you like”.

When I no longer feel pain, I start to get up, causing Rúben to freak out.

“I’m fine”, I laugh, “and I need the toilet. I’ll be right back”.

By the time I’m back in the living room, Rúben has removed all the rubbish I’ve accumulated during the day from the table.

“We can have dinner here”.

“You really don’t have to stay, Rúben”.

“You know? I’m a little hurt”.

Not what I expected him to say right now.

“Why?”

“Remember the week after we met?”

The little smirk on my face tells him I clearly do.

“I had a little injury and you refused to leave my side. Then a couple of weeks ago, I hurt my finger again”.

“Because you aren’t careful lifting those weights that are heavier than me”.

“Whatever. I hurt my finger and you refused to leave my side. And believe me, a little blister wasn’t that big of an issue. It definitely didn’t leave me unable to move from how much pain I was in”.

“I get it”.

“Do you? Why do you get to look after me but I don’t get to do the same?”

Because I’m an idiot.

“Because I was worried you would be a typical man, being weird around me just because I’m bleeding. I didn’t want you to disappoint me, I guess”.

“Well, I’m not…anymore. We grow and we learn”.

I laugh because I get it.

“I’m sorry. Can you look after me now?”

“Not sure you deserve it”.

But I can tell he’s joking because of the tone he’s using.

“Pleaaaase, can you look after your girlfriend that is in so much pain and needs a lot of hugs and kisses?”

“I guess I’ll have to. How am I going to win boyfriend of the month if I don’t?”

“You might even win boyfriend of the year”.

“I’m not winning player of the season with Erling on the team so I need any other award I can get”.

While I’m getting changed in my room, I hear the doorbell again and by the time I go back to the sofa, Rúben has already placed all of our food on the table.

“I’m actually starving”.

“I got you the bread you like too. Soup isn’t enough food”.

“Thank you”, I say, sitting down next to him and hugging his side. I could stay like this all day.

After eating my soup, the bread and some dumplings I stole from Rúben’s plate, I feel ready to nap for 20 hours. More or less.

“Do you want to go to bed?”, asks Rúben and I nod. “Ok, get ready while I tidy up here”.

“Don’t take too long. I need cuddles”.

It’s not even 7.30 but I’m definitely ready for this day to be over. So I get into my warm bed and get comfortable while I wait for Rúben to be back.

It doesn’t take him long and when he gets in bed with me, I immediately feel his arms bringing me closer to him.

“Where does it hurt?”, he says, his breath tickling the back of my neck.

“It doesn’t hurt anymore, really”:

“Where did it hurt?”

So I take his hands to the area where the cramps were stabbing me today. It still feels a little tender from being in pain for so long. But when he starts to draw little circles with his long fingers, I melt.

“That feels nice”.

“Imagine how nice it would have felt when you were in all that pain”.

“There is always next month”.

“Do you really feel this bad every month?”

I turn my head slightly to look at him and his worried face warms my heart.

“Sadly, yes”.

“God, I’m glad it isn’t contagious, then”.

And this time I can properly laugh at his joke without any cramps attacking me, and while I enjoy my boyfriend holding me tight to make me feel safe in this vulnerable moment.

I wanted to throw in my opinion on the Trans MC if you want it! Option 3 would be a lot of extra writing and coding, so I get that it wouldn't be a decision made lightly and it would be added pressure to get it right and it's a sensitive topic for sure. I will say that if you chose to go this route tho, it would make a huge difference and mean a lot to us. I'm a trans athlete, and the lack of representation can be really discouraging. It's time like these where we are receiving so much hate, especially when it comes to sports, that allies could really step up and make a difference. Reading can really open people's minds! It may be difficult and uncomfortable, and take extra work, but that's our everyday tbh. So many stories, TV shows, movies have shaped my experience of being queer and POC, and while some of them have been nice just so I could see someone like myself being represented, the ones that really made an impact are of course the ones where these identities were explored in a sensitive, thoughtful way. (When I watched Saving Face for the first time at 17, about a queer Chinese American doctor, I bawled my eyes out and dont think I've been the same since).

I would absolutely love if CT:OS/my IFs could do this for trans athletes too.

I've seen/heard so many worrying statements about trans athletes (both in real life and in the media)—and it makes me so sad.

Some that really get me really riled up are: The idea that a trans athlete's accomplishments mean nothing because they "have an unfair advantage" (or putting it down to "just hormones" or whatever instead of recognizing the hardwork, skill, and dedication behind EVERY successul athlete, trans or not). Or the idea that trans athletes shouldn't get to choose to be trans if they want to be athletes. Or the idea of policing trans athletes' bodies or forcing them to undergo surgery in order for them to be "valid"...

Well, FUCK THAT. FUCK those people.

If my IF can help celebrate trans athletes, and combat/shut down the really harmful (and ignorant) rhetoric out there? I'd love to do that.

But since I am not trans myself, it feels doubly, triply important that I wade really carefully here. I'd really need to spend time making sure I like and can stand behind what I'm putting out. I don't think it'd be responsible representation, otherwise!

I'm not really a perfectionist about my writing and that's how I make progress on my IFs while working a full time job. I'm more the... "slap shit tgt, get it out there, get feedback and edit if I feel like it" kind of writer. And I don't think I'd be able to finish CT:OS / Merry Crisis any other way. But when it comes to race, gender, and sexual identity? I really. Really. Wanna get things right.

(I rewrote that Rayyan convo about being a POC athlete with Deepal so many times haha and it was already marginally less scary, since I am a POC athlete.)

I guess what I'm trying to say is, I agree it's so goddamn important to have trans stories, and rep, especially in sports, where views are often so toxic and polarized.

But I don't think I know yet whether I see my IF being more a simple "yay, trans rep" kind of space or an actual deeper exploration of what it means to be a trans athlete. I was quite prepared to add the option to be trans (+ any accompanying scenes etc.) when I have the complete CT:OS 1st draft, but I was also toying with the idea of just putting something imperfect into the game earlier.

Faced with indecision, I've opted for: procrastination. I am still waffling, but it was helpful to hear what you guys think. Thank you so much for your message.

The way that Eddie is sitting almost makes it look like a proposal but instead of a ring, he’s holding socks. The thought of Eddie proposing sends a wave of excitement through Buck’s body but they aren’t even officially dating, so he can’t ask him about that; if it would be something that he’d like to do one day.

“You’re growing a human being, cariño. You’re gonna get all the help that I give you because I can’t really do much else” Eddie says, a fond smile plastered across his face as he stands up again, not even realizing that the nickname escaped his mouth.

“What was that?”

Buck, feeling overwhelmed by Eddie’s care and endearing behavior, feels warm tears starting to roll down his cheeks and he sniffles, shaking his head and no words seem to come out of his mouth. At least not in full sentences.

“I’d like that” Buck nods and takes a deep breath, feeling himself calming down. And once he’s calmed down, he finally stands up again, feeling shy as he takes off his shirt in front of Eddie. So making this blog was a spur of the moment decision from clicking onto a blog that seemed very nuanced in the topics that I like reading about and then immediately turned out to have some very vitriolic opinions about butches, transmasculine people, and trans men (All accompanied by a wonderful side of tbros and transandrophobia truthers dni)

So I wanted to talk about that, I guess! The particularly egregious claim that I saw was that trans men/mascs do not experience assault rates anywhere near the levels of trans women/fems people.

I have seen similar claims here and there and seen, in turn, people who point out some possible flaws with it be dogpiled for dismissing trans women/fem's struggles so, instead of taking away from a post centered on trans women/fems, I want to make my own post on the rates of assault on trans men/mascs.

With that out of the way, I'd like to talk about some of the reasons that the rates of assault on trans men/mascs seem lower than trans women/fems (While not discounting their experiences)

When talking to my friends about these rates, I often hear the phrase "I just don't hear about it as often". My initial assumption was that that means that trans men must simply have lower rates, but in that case was I unlucky? My friends? Many, many trans men/mascs I know have, unfortunately, experienced assault in a way that (admittedly anecdotally) did not fit the trend in common reporting.

I came up with three different explanations that probably all contribute in one way or another, and are as follows:

Trans women/fems are more likely to be reported as, well, trans than trans men/mascs

Emasculation of assault survivors

Trans men/mascs being held to gendered expectations.

To elaborate: 1. Trans women/fems are more likely to be reported as, well, trans than trans men/mascs

While trans men/mascs are definitely included in the general transphobic attitudes, it is almost never as men. Trans men/mascs are almost always "confused, indoctrinated girls" who are "mutilating and damaging their bodies with hormones and surgeries". Whenever talked about, I always see trans men/mascs never referred to as men but as hopeless women.

Trans women/fems, on the other hand, are almost always referred to as trans women (or other, far more derogatory terms, but they almost always indicate transness). Unfortunately, trans women/fems are the main punching bag of transphobia right now, and but the attention on them almost always centers around them being, well, trans.

Therefore when reporting on assault, the media will find it far more sensationalist to report trans women/fems as trans for selling points and clicks rather than as just women. Trans men/mascs, though, I find are far more likely to just be referred to as women, even by progressive areas because it fits the "women experience more assault" statistics. (Not to say that's untrue. But we can prove that without fudging the numbers guys c'mon)

2. Emasculation of assault survivors

Regardless of agab, male assault survivors are less likely to speak up about it due to the surrounding culture and general cultivated toxic masculinity in today's culture. Trans men/mascs are not immune to toxic masculinity. I myself am unlearning some very unhealthy attitudes and behaviours that I learned while coming into my identity as a man.

That included stopping burying my own history of having been assaulted beforehand; At the peak of my indoctrination into desperately trying to prove that I was "manly" enough to be considered a man, I was actively trying to act like it never happened.

While again anecdotal, you do not have to search far for similar stories, especially in cisgender men who have survived assault (be it sexual or not)

3. Trans men/mascs being held to gendered expectations

Both tying into point 2 and general transphobia against trans men/mascs, gendered expectations from both men and women often end up applying to trans men/mascs. Many of the double gender standards apply to trans people of any agab or gender, but I think this affects trans men/mascs in a particularly harrowing way.

For example: A trans man has been assaulted. He wants to talk about it, but is currently finding himself belittled by other men if he does. He goes to a queer space to speak up about it and is given support - But it's support aimed at feminine people, because the "afab experience" is supposedly so similar.

To conclude, I don't think this should have to be a debate. It isa good thing to acknowledge that trans people are often assaulted. But I don't think we should play oppression olympics 2, this time the trauma edition! Do not dismiss trans men/masc's struggles because "trans women have it worse". Thanks for reading.

fanworks of basically all kinds are encouraged! there's already a (very small) fangame about melody's cat in the works and i think that rules. considering my own roots as a fanartist and fangame creator i think it would be lame of me to discourage that

that being said, a few simple stipulations:

1) i ask people hold off on any sort of mass-produced merch like t-shirts or pins. custom items, commissioning someone to draw the cast, a small run of prints sold at a con table, etc. are fine by me, but i may end up making merch myself and bee and i need to make a living off of this game. when we're an operation this small, putting up a bunch of slarpg designs on redbubble could be a problem for me

2) please do not use visual assets from slarpg (including edits of my sprites) in a commercial product. using them in a mod or a freeware fangame is fine, though

3) if you do make a fangame or mod or whatever, please make sure it's clearly stated that it's unofficial, and also please don't just publicly distribute the entire game for free (modded or otherwise)

From a story perspective, not a mechanical one: was polyamory ever a consideration for the party members in SLARPG? Can you see any polyamorous relationships working well between main-cast members, even if only for a little while?

i would be lying if i said this was a thing i had never considered, at least a little. it was never a serious plan for the game, but as the story and the character dynamics beyond the main couples evolved there were definitely scenes where i looked at what i'd written and went "oh people are gonna ship this, huh." i definitely see it in my own writing, believe me

the main thing is just that i don't entirely know how i would go about writing poly relationships in a satisfying way. for one i've never been part of a poly relationship, so i can't write from my own experiences there. but also i feel my strongest writing tends to focus on pairs of characters (hence all the one-on-one scenes in slarpg), so it becomes trickier when, for example, a character has two partners. i'd worry about making one more important than the other in terms of narrative focus just because of how i write. i could easily see a version of events where certain characters start dating certain other characters on top of their canon partners, though. i just don't know if it's something that i'd ever really explore myself

I noticed your game seems very deliberate on exactly how it approaches the topic of sex and suggestive content. Obviously it wanted to avoid being "horny furry bait game." But, it also avoided being aggressively chaste as well. It struck a careful balance, where it gives the impression that it's something characters do and think about, but isn't the focus of the story so it stays incidental. Was there ever much consideration on the exact tone in this regard? Or did you just do what felt like a good fit?

this was absolutely something i thought about a LOT. perhaps more than people realize!

i mean for one, yes, the problem of people assuming the game was just furry porn based on the title was always an issue. (not that there's anything wrong with furry porn games, this just isn't one.) the game's origins as a successor to an old fangame also presented an issue, because i was worried that people who knew about the old project but hadn't actually played it might, like, assume that it was extremely horny if i pushed things in slarpg too far? which could, in turn, color peoples' perception of slarpg. they're very distinct projects to me, but i'll never escape the reductive perception of them being Literally The Same Game

at the same time, i started work on the game at age 21 and finished it almost age 29, and in that period my feelings about what i wanted to make and also the attitudes in the wider queer community shifted a lot. there's been pushback against the idea that queer media always needs to be "wholesome" and "pure," with conflicting attitudes about the "wholesome games" marketing label in the indie scene mixing with very valid fears about puritanism growing in the queer community online - stuff like the perpetual "kink at pride" fearmongering. and i didn't want to be seen as being part of some push to erase the sex from sexuality or whatever. even beyond that, i've always kind of rankled at the "cute aesthetic = wholesome" thing. i worried about the idea that the game was "wholesome" and all fluff leading to people getting upset at the more intense parts of the story. and also, just, you know. the characters are all in their 20s. i think it would be weird if they didn't know what sex or alcohol or swear words or whatever were. i think they'd become less relatable and real if it was too sanitized

but of course the flipside is that it's a 16-bit jrpg throwback game and i was absolutely overthinking how much people expected adult themes to be touched upon, queer subject matter or no. i think i struck a good balance in the end where it's lightly acknowledged without disrupting the expected tone of the genre. i'm glad it's speaking to people

Jodie’s theme from when she was gonna be a dog (apparently?) has a very different feel to it. Was her puppysona a very different character than the danger kitten? Or was her intro in the story simply different?

i was still just figuring out jodie as a character at the time - both her design AND her personality - so bee didn't have the most complete information to work off of when trying to write the fourth character theme

i think initially she was going to perhaps be somewhat more brash, being the one Actually Qualified Adventurer on the team who's surprised that her friends made it so far without her, and she would've been exasperated with claire's shenanigans instead of enabling them. she was also intended to be more of a foil to melody, seeming to be (from melody's perspective) the person everyone compares her to. which might be why i thought to make her a canid? this juxtaposition between the two is still an element in the game, but it's more subtle and i rarely draw direct attention to it. and she was intended to be much more bullheaded, with her arc revolving around her running off and picking a fight that really didn't need to be picked off-screen to set up a side quest that was completely cut

obviously a lot of this doesn't sound very much like jodie at all! she was the character i struggled to nail down the most. if she was too brash and critical of claire's decisions then she'd have way too much overlap with allison, so instead she became claire's best friend who's supportive and trusting to a fault, and who's also the most earnest and straightforward member of the team

I'm going to get a little into the politics of omegaverse, and why I structure my au the way I do under the cut.

I totally understand the appeal of afab alphas with phallus' and amab omegas with vaginas. I think my main argument(I guess) against that, is that it has always seemed to me to equate dominance/submission and societal roles with genitalia?

Now, the whole point of omegaverse originally is to have basically a built in dom/sub system in society and also mpreg. I get that, but listen. When I hear that afab alphas a "rare" or "uncommon" I cringe. It just feels very... like you're creating this world where endotype(a/b/o) matters more than gender and you're still saying afab folks are unable to fill the dominant societal role? This you is not you Grizz, it's like a general fandom you, I don't want to sound like I'm attacking you. Again I love an afab alpha with a phallus, best of both worlds in my mind. It's just something I notice.

Betas would still have the hormone just in either a more even mix, or at lower levels. I feel like this also allows people to be trans-endotype, if you can supplement hormones for e/t why not a/o?

Also for ambiguous genitalia at birth, why not give it to betas too? Again it just always seemed weird to me that there were basically 2 species of humans: betas and Alphas/Omegas. Give everyone both parts. I want amab alphas with pussys. I want to destroy those men's cervix.
