Ever since Sirius had ventured into a muggle office supply store, he was fueled by the desire to use his sticky notes. The thrill helped him to endure the unending stress his parents brought him because soon he would be back at school.

With the wards on Grimmauld Place magical surveillance that would have consequences for underaged magic was blocked, so he had the chance to perfect charming his sticky notes to have fun effects like being extra sticky… and having an inclination to reappear after being destroyed… to Kreacher and Regulus’ misfortune.

Finally and joyfully he clamped his hand onto Severus’ back to press a ‘LOSER’ note into place. “Have a good summer, Snivellus?”

For a single, precious heartbeat, Severus Snape allowed himself the fantasy of breaking every single one of Sirius Black's fingers. Slowly. Methodically. Possibly in alphabetical order.

His summer hadn't been quite the carefree and sun-kissed idyll most typical teenagers dream of, but nothing could beat the dread of going back to ... this.

The slap on his back - and the insult so infantile he momentarily wondered if Black had sustained some severe head injury over the holidays - made Severus tense with a suppressed violence that could have curdled cream at twenty paces. He wanted to bark at him not to touch him ever again; instead, he drew in a sharp, calming breath, mastering the surge of hatred as though wrestling down a particularly obstinate doxy, by imagining slicing Black into fine potions ingredients.

Slowly, with the kind of cold precision typically reserved for measuring volatile potions ingredients, Severus plucked the offensive charmed sticky note from his robes with some difficulty. He eyed it, contempt curving at the corners of his sneering lips as he recognised the mundane item from his life outside Hogwarts, usually littering fridges and corkboards.

"Black." he hissed the name like an insult, voice positively venomous, "good to see you've discovered literacy over the summer. Now we can move you onto something truly challenging - like counting beyond ten without taking off your shoes.”

He crumpled the note deliberately, the sound oddly soothing, as if crushing Sirius Black himself into a tight little ball ... and then it reappeared. Of course it did.

This was going to be a long year.

In D&D, tricks are like traps only weirder and less lethal. They're placed on objects by dungeon inhabitants and ambient magic. A tricked object is triggered when creatures interact with it. Roll d100 on this table for a random Trick Effect (text table under the cut).

Explanation: Why does this galaxy look like a curly vegetable? The Fiddlehead spiral galaxy likely gets its distorted spiral appearance from a gravitational interaction with its close-by elliptical companion NGC 770, seen just below. Cataloged as NGC 772 and Arp 78, the Fiddlehead spans over 200,000 light years, is a nearby 100 million light years beyond the stars of our Milky Way galaxy, and is visible toward the constellation of the Ram (Aries). But in the featured image, the Fiddlehead appears to have another companion -- one with a long and fuzzy tail: Comet 43P/Wolf-Harrington. Though the comet appears to be aimed straight at the massive galaxy, it is actually much closer to us, residing only light minutes away -- well within our Solar System. The comet will never reach the distant spiral galaxy, nor is it physically related to it. By a fortunate trick of perspective, though, these two cosmic wonders briefly share the same frame taken late last year from Calern, France.
