AAHH youre so cool and swag for identifyiing the guns/vehicles/AIRCRAFT??/etc like thats so much stuff to just Recognize offhand ur incredible..
WTFF tysm you're so sweet <3 some i do recognize, but internet movie databases are a huge help! the internet movie car database is especially thorough for lupin content- it's freaking awesome: https://www.imcdb.org/movies.php?title=lupin+iii ! for firearms and aircraft though, while databases exist and there's some lupin content listed, it's not nearly enough, and THOSE i have to really dig for. i'm so glad you like that i id that stuff though, cuz i enjoy doing it :D
#the internet movie firearm database is so skimpy in relation to lupin it's actually so devastating#i'd really like to one day try and edit it myself once i know more but i'm still learning ^_^#anonymous

Not sure we've ever seen it from the front like that, but I'm pretty sure it's his normal Trump Gun (for reference: shots from Fist of the Blue Sapphire)

GIRL IS THAT A REAL GUN!?!?!
#the internet movie firearms database hasn't been updated for the trailer#(I spent too much time on there digging to figure out which weapons akam wield through the course of their history xD)#but I'm like 99 % certain that's it. this gun in particular is so distinctive#haven't figured out why it's asymmetrical like that#so. sorry to disappoint?#m27#dcmk

What did I do while suffering from an ear infection all last week?
I argued with a Trump supporting boomer @mtnman451.
Why?
My ear discomfort was so ever-present that I couldn't concentrate on anything for more than a minute or two. I was hopelessly bored. So I decided to see how long this guy would continue responding due to always needing to have the last word.
I almost gave up at one point.
He nearly tired me out.
But then he pulled me back in.
We started arguing about the kind of gun used in my dad's favorite movie, Quigley Down Under.
Just to be clear, I am posting this for one person. I am using my large platform to publicly show that someone on the internet was wrong. It will not make the world a better place. It is probably not great for my mental health. But sometimes you just gotta embrace the petty.
If you have no interest in a stupid internet argument, feel free to ignore this. But I really really needed to be correct about this. And I am letting my pettiness take the wheel and digging in to vent my frustrations about people who cannot ever be wrong on the internet.
Here is a little of the argument...
mtnman451 You know it's funny. You think you're so smart and are all happy about you're supposed "Gotcha Moment. Have you ever seen the movie "Quigley Down Under?" The lead character only uses a Sharp's rifle during the movie and the major antagonist gives him crap because Quigley doesn't seem to know how to use a Colt Revolver. I believe the exact thing Quigley says to the antagonist when asked about it is "Well Sir, I never had much use for one." At the end of the movie when Quigley takes out 3 men in a fair gunfight including the antagonist, Quigley walks up to him as he's on the ground, dying and looking shocked that he had just gotten shot and says "I said I never had much use for one. I never said I didn't know how to use it."
sirfrogsworth Quigley was actually my dad's favorite movie. I enjoyed it very much as well. But I'm afraid you are not shooting with the Shiloh Sharps or the Colt 1860 Army.
You are firing a toy cap gun, friend. All noise and no bullets.
You are angry, incoherent, and neither your arguments nor your insults make any sense.
mtnman451 you need to take another look at that movie because the Australians in "Quigley" weren't armed with 1860 Colt Army Revolvers. 1860 Colt Army Revolvers were .44 caliber and the revolvers used by The Australians were of a smaller caliber. If you knew your guns, you'd know that.
sirfrogsworth Elliot Marston (played by Alan Rickman) carried a .44 caliber Colt 1860 Army. He even refers to it as the "Army revolver" invented by "Col. Colt." He then places his identical "backup revolver" in Quigley's belt before the final duel.
I actually have an interest in antique guns and have always wanted to collect non-working replicas but never had the money. So I'm pretty sure I know the guns in my dad's favorite movie.
You are free to check the Internet Movie Firearms Database to verify.
mtnman451 Go back and watch the movie. He's not packing a .44. you want to see what a .44 looks like? Here you go.

sirfrogsworth Do you enjoy people making you look stupid?
Here is the photo you just shared overlaid on a still of Rickman's gun in the movie. It's the same fucking gun, dude.

mtnman451 Yes, it's exactly like this one. A .36 Caliber Colt.

sirfrogsworth The 1860 Army uses the same frame as the .36 caliber Navy model. In the movie he clearly says, "Are you familiar with the Army revolver, Mr. Quigley?" The film takes place around 1860 and he says it is a "recent invention of Colonel Colt."
mtnman451 hm. Same frame you say? No Shit sirfroggysgoneacourting. It's a wonder why those who don't know what they're talking about mistake the two, isn't it? Do you or your Dad own any black powder weapons? I do. Ever held the two in your hands? Seen them side by side? I have. Ever fired any black powder weapons? I have. I've fired more guns of every type from muzzle loading rifles, single action percussion cap pistols to semi automatic pistols and Class 3 Federally regulated firearms. Have you? It's possible but I highly doubt it.
sirfrogsworth So… you can't be wrong, can you? Like it is physically impossible. You just double and triple down and quadruple down?
If you can show any kind of evidence aside from "I know guns" then I'd be happy to reconsider. But it has to be actual evidence and not "I WAS PLAYING WITH GUNS BEFORE YOU WERE IN DiAPERS!"
I know you are super good at shooting things but I am super good at research. Either play in my sandbox and PROVE your claim or fuck off.
mtnman451 Oh I could be wrong but I'm not. Now while Tom Selleck served in The US Military and throughout his Film and TV career handled many different and powerful weapons like a .44 colt, if you recall he used The Remington Army .44 in "The Shadow Riders" where he played a Union Cavalry Officer to "Magnum P.I. where he used an ACP, that's the .45 Automatic Colt Pistol, btw. I don't think a bunch of British and Australian Actors such as the ones in "Quigley Down Under would have had as much experience handling pistols of that size as they pack a pretty Damn Big Kick. a .36 Caliber Colt would be much more manageable in the hands of a neophyte.
sirfrogsworth So, none of that is evidence. That is pure speculation. Your entire argument is that Alan Rickman wasn't man enough to fire a blank firing prop gun? That's silly. And does not prove anything at all.
Do you not understand what evidence is?
My evidence is the character said it was an Army. And online sources have verified it as the Army.
You just have vibes.
Even the Internet Movie Firearms Database thinks you are wrong. And they do solid research.
mtnman451 If you were so good at research, why didn't you just go here in the first place?
sirfrogsworth I TOLD YOU TO CHECK THAT SITE. That's where I learned about the gun years ago. In my very first reply I said, "You are free to check the Internet Movie Firearms Database to verify."
mtnman451 And yet the guy that's "Super Good" at research never posted it.
And now, some "Super Good" research...
I found the definitive difference between the .44 Colt Army and .36 Colt Navy revolvers.
Here is the cylinder of the .36 caliber Colt 1861 Navy that Mr. Mountain Man claimed was used in the movie.

Here is the cylinder of the .44 caliber Colt 1860 Army that I claimed was in the movie.

Please draw your attention to that seam in the cylinder. This was to account for the larger bullets.
Here is a scene from the movie where Alan Rickman's character is firing the revolver.

I've always wanted to do this...

I think of all the times I was correct, this is the most correct I have ever been.
Also, while the show's canon claimed Magnum P.I. used a .45 ACP Colt 1911, they had trouble finding blanks for it, so the prop gun was a 9mm.

I guess Tom Selleck didn't have to handle that really big kick after all.
Will Mr. Mountain Man 451 finally admit he was wrong and apologize for his overconfident firearms claims?
I eagerly await him changing the subject and never admitting his error.
Because it is the Trump way.
If you are wrong about something... no you aren't.
Just be louder and wronger until everyone gives up.

hello! i am a creative who is trying to learn more about guns so i can write them in an informed way, but a lot of the sources i'm finding are like. kinda uncomfortable, in the sense that they're very conservative and kind of reactionary about defending from "Invaders" or whatever. i was wondering if you happen to know of like, youtube channels or blogs (other than this one ofc) that are informative about firearms but also, not, like. sponsored by US military recruitment agencies? sorry for the trouble
Hiya! I totally understand the discomfort. I do have a couple of recommendations to give, but I do also want to share my experiences, too.
Looking back, I'd estimate that about 70% of my arms research has always been with the caveat of having to navigate those kinds of conservative elements, unfortunately. (And another 20% was on sources that weren't very open about it, but I can't recommend for one reason or another after hearing about them from other places) I know it's really unfair, and I wish I had better sources to recommend for deeper knowledge, but to get the best understanding, it may be required to navigate those waters oneself, and focus on separating the educational elements from the ideological bullshit.
And from experience, if you're gonna look at IMFDB (Internet Movie Firearms Database, an extremely well-documented and exhaustive wiki on gun identification with regards to the media they show up in, including video games and anime), I would recommend running Firefox with the latest version of AdBlocker to get rid of the more problematic ads.
Outside of that, I've got a handful of decent recommendations for you to check out still.
Ahoy has some great videos that cover a number of historic firearms, though there is a slight focus on their relation to video games.
Though not a standard educational channel per se, Anton Hand is the creator of Hot Dogs, Horseshoes, and Hand Grenades, a VR game that's a sandbox with advanced firearms simulations, where the only organic creatures are cartoonishly nonhuman sausage creatures, which is an intentional design choice to avoid the game being an Active Shooter Simulator. While his channel is primarily dedicated to updates to the game, whenever he goes about adding in new weapons, historical firearms, attachments, functionalities, etc., he does go into the history of those features fairly often.
I asked a friend of mine, and he recommended InRangeTV, who is a leftist gun blogger, so there's a fitting recommendation, I suppose! I haven't seen this guy before but I already like his vibes quite a bit.

Boyd: You gonna shoot to stop me? Raylan: Maybe. Boyd: I'm pretty sure you empty. Raylan: You gonna bet your life on that? Boyd: No, Raylan, I'm gonna bet my life on you being the only friend I have left in this world.
According to the Internet Movie Firearms Database, Raylan carries a Glock 17, which has a standard capacity of seventeen bullets. We see Raylan reload just before he leaves the cabin; he then fires, to the best of my hearing, fifteen shots at Pilar and the retreating car. That means Boyd is wrong, and that he does in fact have two bullets left. Which Raylan knows, because he checks--but not until Boyd is out of range.
#gnaws my arm off about them#also sorry about the lq caps i haven't pulled my dvds out again#(yet.)#justified#justified fx#whatever tag we're using these days#NO RAYLAN I'M GONNA BET MY LIFE ON YOU BEING THE ONLY FRIEND I HAVE LEFT IN THIS WORLD!!!

I feel like I should probably share this little gem I came across while doing research for my fic. Honestly, such a great resource for any weapons in media.
I think my toughest choice was choosing which guns to reference honestly. There were so many great options. :D
I’m not at all on any government watchlist now, nope

welcome!
i'm a bit of a nerd when it comes to guns, and thought randomly at some point that it'd be fun to start this gimmick blog and try to identify guns in various posts. however I do still kind of consider myself to be in the dunning-kruger valley, and gun identification is a bit more complex than car identification due to just how many variants of individual gun patterns there are, and how much easier it is to do modifications of them...
(ask / submission rules and other guidelines are further down in this post)
I'll try to at least identify the general pattern of the gun or any recognizable parts and cross reference with images and articles to make a decision. If your post or submission is from a particular piece of media, it's extremely likely for it to already be documented on the Internet Movie Firearms Database wiki website, so some answers will probably be pulled straight from there.
For example, the wiki clearly outlines that, in the above blog header, which is from the anime/manga Lycoris Recoil (IMFDB link here), Chisato (left) canonically uses a Detonics CombatMaster (variant of Colt 1911 pattern, chambered in .45 ACP), specifically one that incorporates elements of the Tokyo Marui Strike Warrior Airsoft replica (notable in the strike face compensator and modified rear sight). Takina (right) meanwhile uses a somewhat generic Smith and Wesson M&P9 PRO, chambered in 9x19mm, with the extended 5" barrel.
To make up for how garbage I am at getting specifics right, I may also offer some bits of trivia about the gun(s) in question and/or their implementation. For example, although Chisato's gun seems based off of the Tokyo Marui design, it notably has three port holes at the top of the compensator as compared to the single port in the original; it might be a bit more effective as a real compensator than the very-Airsoft cosmetic fixing of the TM replica. It also lacks the accessory rail in the anime. Additionally, Takina's signature sidearm, the M&P9, is extremely common in modern law enforcement (you might even recognize the handle of it in the "(A) Steal Officer's Service Weapon" meme), so it's a bit of a "cop gun" in a sense; which possibly matches how Takina essentially serves as the by-the-numbers half of the pseudo-buddycop pairing formed by her and Chisato. Interestingly enough, all other Lycoris agents are seen wielding Glock 17s instead...
asks
I'm always open to asks if you want to ask me anything, but if you want me to identify something, you should probably make it a submission!
submissions/tags
Only submit requests for identification of guns OR fictional gun reviews (more on that in another section)! Preferably memes and posts. You can also submit things from media like video games and anime, but you could probably get a faster answer through IMFDB than me >~>
If your submission or tag is for a "cursed gun" then some special rules apply. If it's a real life picture of some effed up monstrosity, I will do my best to identify it with a real, pre-built gun; otherwise, I'll try to identify parts that may have been used for it. If it's clearly an edited picture or some other form of drawing, concept, or very clearly fictional gun, this will be treated as a "Fictional Gun Review" instead.
Generally speaking I'm looking at "small arms" guns; I'm not super well-versed on artillery pieces and aircraft weapons and the like. I know a handful of rocket launchers and might be able to pick out a couple but those are also pretty hard for me.
Fictional Gun Reviews
I'm also a bit of a hobbyist game designer and like creating weapon designs myself! I can take a look at strictly fictional weapon designs and give some cursory criticism on whether or not the gun would actually function in the configuration it's in (checking things like barrel/bolt/magazine alignment, etc.), what parts of it I recognize from real guns, and an overall subjective rating.
about me
i'm a 21+ trans woman (she/her) and pansexual/biromantic disaster married to a hot butch wife. i'm also an independent game developer and secretly a streamer on another alias of mine. i like guns! i like the history of guns and the engineering of guns. personal favorites are sniper rifles, particularly the L96A1, the first military-specification sniper rifle made by Accuracy International, which served as the prototype of the Arctic Warfare line of rifles, popularized by Counter Strike's AWP (though the classification of "AWP" is incorrect for the particular weapon featured in the series, it's actually an AWM .338). favorite pistol is probably the Beretta 93R, a 3 round burst fire pistol with a similar pattern to the iconic M9 pistol. i also like the MP7 PDW (obvious half life 2 fan is obvious), the MAC10 (by far the coolest machine pistol to fire in akimbo lol), and the G36C (one of the first guns I ever decided to look up more information about many years ago after picking it up in Garry's Mod of all places).
