Hello!!! Welcome to my art blog :)
Call me Raylee. I'm an artist currently working in Texas with the hopes to move up north in the next several years. My pronouns are she/her, but I actually don't care what I go by... and I'm 24 years old.
I mostly do relief printmaking, but sometimes I pull out the gouache paint or other crafty supplies!

About
I've been meaning to make an intro post so here are some facts about myself
I have a computer science degree
I have an obscene amount of mediocre knowledge on various art medias both performance and visual (to name a few: printmaking, stage combat, FX makeup, cosplay, and more!). I do not practice all of them continuously, but I do also write :)
I own at least one cat
Favorite color is black
I am queer, Black Lives Matter, and feminism is for everyone
I am technically an adult
Some games I play: Legend of Zelda (many of them), Hades, and Animal Crossing. Waiting for another Jak and Daxter forever
I don't know what else to put in this post lol I guess I will update it if things become relevant

Had to do some printmaking for an intro class and obviously I made it rdr2 themed
This was all done traditional so I have more color variations, but I don’t want to bombard this post with pics and editing them to look digital or just the way I want takes forever 😭
I had fun drawing the design but the carving was honestly difficult. I think I did okay for my first and I would definitely try this again!

snippet from my new fic for @bookbat1937
If it was possible for a Dom to be a brat, Bucky was one. It started like this. Steve had been minding his own business doing a semester as a TA for an Intro to Drawing class in Brooklyn. Bucky was in his class. In the icebreakers, Steve just walked up to him and offered to shake his hand.
“Hi, I’m the TA,” he had said, “my name’s Steve Rogers.”
Bucky smiled at him, having taken his hand, and then instead of shaking it, he kissed it.
“Hey,” he replied casually, “my name’s Bucky, but you can call me whatever you like. I do prefer Daddy, though.”
Now, Steve should have smacked him on the hand. But he had just had a heat, and sometimes when an Alpha pulls that shit it just works. Also, Bucky had just so happened to guess Steve’s biggest kink. In two seconds. Steve had blushed and opened his mouth, then gotten ahold of himself and went on to the next person.
The flirting did not end there.
The next semester, Steve had started as TA for Intro to Drawing and Intro to Printmaking, and by G-d, he was there again. He grinned all bright and Steve spent the whole class catching him staring. He did get a little flustered. Told himself to ignore it. Did not expect the bouquet of sunflowers and irises Bucky showed up with immediately after that class, like not just the same day, Steve had walked out to his locker after cleaning up the studio as he had a class in fifteen minutes and up behind him came Bucky. Sunflowers, purple irises, and juniper.
“I heard that fella Van Goch thought these were pretty,” he had said. “And the juniper is a fire plant. Yannow, like passion.”
“It’s Van Gogh,” Steve corrected him.
But dammit, he took the flowers.

tuesday!
hello again! another 2-weeker because I was in Washington (Da Capital) for a portion of last week for an academic conference and boy howdy did that sap my will to live/energy to post.
listening: I finished relistening to TANIS! season 5 felt completely unfamiliar so I either never actually listened to it or it was just that forgettable. which tbh, it was. very forgettable. definitely good background white noise but really nothing cooking in there. very clear to me that at the end there terry miles was way more interested in writing a book than an audio drama.
for the sake of completeness I also am relistening to the black tapes. definitely a more cohesive narrative happening there even though I know the "finale" is looming ahead. also has not generally aged super well, and some of the attempts at writing academic experts of things in make me laugh a lot, and the overlap in voice actors for side characters is also amusing. I think this universe of podcasts only work if TANIS is a fictional podcast in TBT and vice-versa but that's not news. also why did they make cuneiform on…parchment…as a plot point in s3…it's cuneiform…wouldn't it be on a slab of clay…anyways a reference to "current political discourse" in a s3 ep made me check the date and I didn't realize that this came out in 2020????? insane. way more recent than I thought (derogatory).
music-wise, saw Mahjong Crib live a few weeks ago at a local bar so I've been letting that run in the background. the bassist was incredibly high (as he should be) and very funny. the last song of the set he put the bass down and started going ham on cowbell. definitely in the family of freeform jazz which isn't normally my thing. still not sure this band is my thing, will probably not be purchasing this album for example.
reading: How Cheerleading Became So Acrobatic, Dangerous and Popular (David Gauvey Herbert): what it says on the tin. didn't realize how much of it came down to monopoly of an industry again. womp womp.
read these both on the plane back from the conference: By Proxy (Lise): mind the tags. really nailed a good dynamic between LWJ and JC imo. Wuxian The Ninth (spockandawe): was linked by the author in a server we're both in. the choice to just do the intro and finale is so incredibly valid. I should do that for my abhorsen/TLT crossover actually because I have the beginning done and definitely have a finale cooking in my head but writing all the bits in the middle seems exhausting and this has made it occur to me that I am allowed to just. skip all the shit in the middle. nothing is stopping me.
watching: fallow
playing: fallow
making: I have been speed knitting a pair of fingerless gloves for my mom! chose this pattern specifically to do them flat style because I was on the go and didn't want to think about using dpns, and I don't have the equipment for knitting in the round comfortably on that small of a scale.

finished carving the block for my holiday cards BUT printing them has proved. challenging. I have what turns out to be kinda shitty water-based ink that is a real pain in the ass to do more than one print at a time with because it dries so fast. it's also applying and printing extremely unevenly and patchy, and while I don't actually mind the texture that adds, the fact that I have to wash off my block & roller every 2-3 prints or so is really stymying my speed. I am abusing my boyfriend's amazon prime to get an oil-based printmaking ink shipped to me so I have put further printing on hold til today when that allegedly arrives. I miss living in closer proximity to a more professional art supply store :-( I've printed about 15 or 20 now and depending on how much nicer the ink looks I may restart lol… either way next year I think I will get thicker paper to mail postcard-style instead of in an envelope to save on postage and work? we'll see. I'm hand delivering around half of my cards over the course of the holidays as it is to make it simpler and cut back on the amount of envelopes and postage I'll need anyways so it's really not TOO bad…
I kind of want to carve a return label stamp as well but obviously the scale/detail of that is more challenging. the easier move is to order return label stickers obviously so maybe I will design some of those, not for this year at this time scale but y'know. I was thinking of putting up my holiday card designs on redbubble or etsy or whatever as well just for funsies.
eating: made deb smittenkitchen's lentil soup with sausage, chard and garlic! really good! my sausages are generic beef from the farmers market so I feel like I lost a little flavor in there by not using some sort of sweet or spicy sausage but it's still tasty and filling. according to comments it freezes very well so I made the full recipe and will be freezing about four servings. I am rich in frozen soups rn.
I was GOING to make her crispy cauliflower and cabbage salad as well but the half a head of cabbage I had in the fridge tragically finally went bad. so instead I did an improvization at her cauliflower with dates and pistachios salad. I did not have dates or pistachios, subbed in craisins and almond slivers, lmfao, but still tasty and has the same structure. I also got some salmon burgers from kroger that have TWENTY FIVE GRAMS of protein each and were very tasty.
misc: feeling very [horror movie scare chord] from networking at that conference. my advisor's previous student who I did not overlap with but am familiar because I have continued his work casually commented that he applied to over Four Hundred Jobs before getting the one he currently has that he. does not even like that much. (I think? unclear. he is kind of a hater at heart in the funniest possible way, bless him.) so I have the fear of god in me a little bit but it's Fine, I'm doing what I'm "supposed" to be doing that a lot of other people are not by doing extensive networking and looking for summer internships for what will hopefully be the last summer of my PhD program.
I gotta start thinking about my yearly roundup too!!! I did a bad job of keeping a spreadsheet this year for this to note everything down in an easy format so maybe I will do that in retrospect as a time-filling activity in the next few weeks…

snips my beloved angel! top 5 ummm cozy activities. top 5 art supplies. top 5 thursday songs
HI MY LOVE SORRY I FORGOT TO REPLY!! ily im excited to answer this ok here goes.
cozy activities in no particular order: -a hot beverage! -eating a nice meal (rn i am having chicken pot pie its very cozy) -anything where a candle is involved. just chilling with a candle. -i want to say baking but i hate baking i always get so scared. so maybe instead of that...when youve already done the scary stuff of baking and its just in the oven and everything smells nice -i feel like sitting somewhere where other people are doing stuff is nice? when im at my parents house i just like to sit downstairs and watch people do people things thats cozy to me.
art supplies: -watercolors i loveeeee -any printmaking materials. <3 -YARN -tombow markers. my friends. -a nice fine line pen? AUGH. loveeeeee
thursday songs: -introduction/streaks in the sky. i dont care that this is "from their worst album" or "technically two songs" and "one of them is instrumental" theyre my favorite thursday song adn i think about them every day of my life. -application for release from the dream. changed the game. genuinely changed my brain. -legally i think i have to say paris in flames bc im moth shadowofmoths. the lyrics go hard. -im gonna say signals over the air bc every time they perform it and geoff does his gay little intro its Everything to me. -ok i think at this velocity is my other top 5. but honorable mention to arc lamps, signal flares, a shower of white (the light) which is ANOTHER instrumental that makes me crazy.

in art school i only did printmaking. i took the required intro courses in drawing, photo, painting, ceramics, and 2&3d design, but my head and my heart were always in the print studio. i so stubbornly believed i had found the only medium that made sense to me because the ~process~ is so central to printmaking. it’s chemistry and materials science, a little wood and metal working, design and iteration, and it’s often stupidly difficult. i bought into this idea that other mediums were about virtuosity and raw talent, rather than all the things i found satisfying about printmaking. of course i was afraid i wasn’t good enough, that’s just being an artist. but i think now that i was maybe just trying to distance myself from making art by making beautiful objects that required a lot of skill and specialized equipment because i don’t think i made any good art until i was cut off from the studio after graduating. i was left with a little paint and so broke i only had trash to work with. that first show after was some of my best work because i was fighting through my newly limited media to get where i wanted to be, instead of hiding from that place inside technique.

M. Connor- Writeblr Intro
Hello everyone, I'm M. Connor (he/they) and I am a romance and fantasy author. I have an interest in both clean and erotic romance novels and short stories. I have been known to dabble in horror short stories and in poetry. I write a variety of queer centered stories with a multitude of different identities and pairings.
My purpose for being on Writeblr is to share my work in a low pressure environment, and to read and support the work of others. I always respond to friendly DMs and I try to reply to asks in a timely manner. I am not currently posting my WIPs online except for excerpts and teasers.
My other interests include art (specifically printmaking and paper making, though I'm getting into digital art), Stardew Valley, Skyrim, MXTX's works, and writing and playing music (I play a lot of instruments and sing). Sometimes these intersect with my writing, and I will post about them from time to time.
Some boundaries: I will block minors on sight. My work is not for those under eighteen, please don't interact unless you are of age. I also do not take unsolicited constructive criticism, especially on matters of taste.
Here are a couple of my WIPs and completed projects:
Lunar Lagoon: An erotic romance set in the modern Mediterranean. Lyria, a mermaid, and Amelia, the transfem captain of an antique sailing vessel, must navigate a budding relationship formed from mutual pleasure as it blossoms into something meaningful and deep, while avoiding the ire of Lyria’s overprotective father. Love should be smooth sailing… right?
Crossroads: An erotic romance set in the US. Hazel Abernathy is a struggling witch fighting a losing battle against her local HOA and the crumbling infrastructure of the house her mother left to her when she passed. She’s ready to get back out there and on Valentines Day, meets the sweet and charming Aleksander, and the bombastic and enigmatic Lillian. The two of them, powerful demons in their own right, have their own struggles with mysterious spiritual attacks on the nightclub they own.
Wear a Coat: A horror short story set in the Appalachian mountains, where I come from. What happens when you don’t follow your mama’s advice and go looking for berries without a coat? Maybe you’ll just get cold or maybe you’ll attract unwanted attention from something dwelling deep within the forest…
Alder: This story follows Finlay, a dryad who has been set adrift after a series of questionable choices. This WIP is pretty nebulous at the moment, but has my whole heart. It’s rife with gender shenanigans and magic
Ochre: What happens if a crow is suddenly given a human form by the Morrigan? Let’s find out! Again, another baby WIP in early stages.
