@paramythas asked: "If you're hungry, there's ramen in the bottom cupboard next to the fridge." Which is odd, because Io doesn't... eat food. "If you make a mess though, you're cleaning it up."
𝐊𝐔𝐑𝐎 𝐒𝐓𝐈𝐋𝐋 𝐅𝐄𝐋𝐓 𝐀 𝐁𝐈𝐓 𝐓𝐎𝐎 𝐆𝐑𝐎𝐆𝐆𝐘. but he managed well enough; getting to his feet so he could wander to the kitchen. which, is stocked with just enough food that kuro can remain happy when he stays here. it's not lost on him that io doesn't eat the things he does. and it isn't the first time she's done it. she'd even provided him with pots and pans to use for cooking. " ahh thanks-- " upon looking, he realizes she has also gotten him brands he really enjoys. was it an accident? kuro thinks so, but a small part of him would like to think it was intentional.
as he preps his pot, and gets it on the stove... he imagine io going to the store to pick these things out. the vampire really doesn't strike him as someone who shops for things often. a moment later-- his head pokes out of the kitchen, a slight tilt to his head. " i know you have to drink uh... blood. but-- can you eat? like, food food? just to enjoy it if you wanted? " he really hasn't ever seen her eat, aside from. well. which makes plenty of sense. " like uh junk food. " a pause, the question feels dumb.
-- but he may as well " or would that kill you or something... "

thinking about dragon io
big fucking snake. thank you for coming to my ted talk
honestly from shoulders-head looks the most snake-like. long, lithe, and shaped like a viper. the rest of their body takes on a slender, almost lengthened greyhound-esque physique to it. they're still very good at coiling up into a ball and turning over on themself. very lithe and flexible.
shoulder injury is present in all forms. in their dragon form, it's present as a bad limp.
absolutely the most unhinged version of io that exists. they're obsessed with creating fear. they are burning entire villages, towns, etc. just so that everyone knows they're the big bad. they're top dog. they're the bitch you should be quaking in your boots over.
responsible for torching an entire kingdom to ruins - however, it's far away, across a sea. traveling gone wrong for them. they're under the firm opinion that the entire kingdom deserved it. they have the scars to try and justify it.
their venom is both hemotoxic and neurotoxic. it kills very, very quickly. their fangs are so big, however, that this often only ever gets used on large(r) enemies. however, iovita doesn't mind playing with a victim for more... delicate... work... in order to witness the sudden and gruesome effects of their venom first-hand.
after several centuries of having their dragon form, they've become most comfortable in their full-dragon form. both because they've become very used to it, and also because they feel safe the bigger and more dangerous they are.
they are least comfortable in their most human of forms. they feel small, squished, and more vulnerable. however, their dragon-like features can be found here. the orange around their pupil. the sharpness of their canines. the pale scales that do their skin, carefully covered under cloth.
the intermediate between these two is to appear human, but to let more draconic features leak through. even sharper teeth. horns present between locks of white hair. heavy wings draping from their shoulders. more scales coating their extremities. they often only use this form in the privacy of their own home/cave system, as they find it doesn't do well amongst the public.

E quando piove è perché
Si è dispiaciuto per me e per te
Perciò mo/ora sta iniziando a piovere
Siamo due estranei che si incontrano
E stavo pensando a tutte le cose che ho fatto
E tutto quello che perso, non posso fare nient'altro
Io per me, tu per te

the first time seth had worked with iovita, he had tried to swindle them. sure, it had been stupid in hindsight, and poorly planned, at that. but back then, seth hadn’t really had any good ammo to use against them. or any good info at all. the only thing he had on them was alanna, who had more experience working with the magical side of well, illegal activities. however -
“ workin’ with a salvienus, ” alanna had muttered into her whiskey glass, and then laughed long and hard at him. “ dumbass. ”
and then she’d made herself real scarce every time seth met with the witch, and seth didn’t blame her. iovita was terrifying when they let their temper go, and they did that for seemingly innocuous reasons, until seth was laying down bigger numbers than he wanted to just to smooth the sharp edges. he had to admit it was nice to not have to tussle with the idea of overland transport - having whatever he managed to get his hands on to sell go poof! and end up exactly where he wanted it to spoiled him. it was especially nice when he had more eyes on him than he was comfortable with. no one could intervene with teleportation.
but iovita’s attitude took several different places on the cons list.
it’s your damn fault, alanna muttered when he dared to complain. she was right, but it didn’t shake the fact that seth desperately wanted the upper hand over someone so useful.
alanna had been helpful the fourth time seth needed iovita again, however, sliding over a paper with a number written across it in smeared black ink.
“ dunno who the contact is but, ” she shrugged, “ leader of that organization would be real interested in that witch o’yours. don’t get dumb though. a salvienus will cut you open if they’re pissed enough. or, uh - you hear what happened to ethan? he wanted cremated when he died but, ” she laughs here, and seth just stares at her, “ his brother sure didn’t have to bother. ”
seth followed her advice… until a point. and then he slipped up, irreparably so.
“ was twelve thousand too much for you? ” iovita asks, staring up at the walls of the warehouse, then down to the half-dozen filled pallets lining the floor. some of seth’s men mill nearby. occasionally they poke at a box or two, switch them between pallets. they’re not doing a good job of acting like they aren’t invested in the conversation, but seth doesn’t want to take his eyes off iovita long enough to yell at them about it.
“ no, ” seth says, quietly. he tugs at the collar of his shirt. when did it get so hot in here? “ but I’d really rather use it for something else, you know? and - anyway - it’s. it’s not just the money - ”
the heat in the room builds, until even the breeze blowing in through the bay doors feels like it comes from the desert - stinging his skin raw. the witch steps closer, pressing his personal space, looming with the steadfast fury of a volcano. “ I see. tell me again, then, how you’re going to rip me off. ”
seth’s men have given up the pretense of working, instead gathering into a loose group behind him as he stammers without saying anything, snaps his mouth closed with an audible click, swallows, and tries again, “ you - you do it for half of that. o-or we contact the hounds. ”
iovita’s gaze bores into his own.
and then they smile a cold sort of smile. flash of teeth as wicked as the flash in their eyes. “ this isn’t the first time you’ve tried to double-cross me, seth. I appreciate that you didn’t waste time with this one, though. no, no… you laid it right on the table for me. ”
the witch is closer, now, and seth can feel the heat radiating off of them. sweat beads at his temple. he wants to take a step backwards. he wants to put space between the two of them. but some invisible force presses against his back, freezing him where he’s at. “ you’re too risky to work with otherwise, ” he manages to squeak out.
iovita’s brows furrow. “ seth, ” they say, “ that’s not wrong. but it’s also not right. I’m not that bad to work with as long as you don’t piss me off, you pay me reasonably, and - well. can you guess what the third thing is? ”
someone pipes up behind seth, “ don’t double cross you? ”
seth whips a glare over his shoulder. three of his men quickly shove the offender behind them.
iovita, on the other hand, is delighted. “ yes! ” they say, tone bright, and then pin seth under their glare again, that wicked smile still plastered to their face. “ and you don’t double cross me. and you definitely don’t do it twice. ”
“ just kill me already, ” seth whines. “ don’t - don’t play with me. ”
iovita quirks an eyebrow. “ kill you? ” they echo. the words sit in their mouth, roll slow off their tongue. their mouth forms the words again, silent. pondering.
“ hm, ” they say after a moment of silence. “ you have pissed me off. ”
“ and doublecrossed you, ” mutters the same voice as before. there’s the sound of shuffling behind seth, someone hissing will you shut up?
a flicker of amusement passes through iovita’s eyes. “ no, ” they say, and the room, almost impossibly, grows hotter. their hands are on the side of seth’s face, forcing him to meet their eyes - eyes as cold and gray as steel.
“ I’m not going to kill you. no, no, no. but I am going to make sure you’re never happy again. ” there’s an invisible weight pressing onto seth from all sides, now. heat clings to his skin like a living thing, and every breath burns the fragile lining of his lungs. “ or, well. you will be happy. you’ll be happy a lot, seth. but something will take that happiness away from you. right when you smile and think ‘wow, that little curse didn’t stick at all! I can be happy,’ fate will twist her clever little fingers and ruin it. catastrophically. women will say ‘I love you’ and then something will happen to make them hate you, no one will ever work with you long enough to help you succeed, and you, you with your sly words and what you think are spectacular plans? well, you’ll fuck up your own happiness, too. just like you did today. and then. and then finally you’ll die. all alone. with nothing and no one to your name. and your whole life will have been just… so… sad. ” they make a frowny face to emphasis this, shake seth’s head around between their palms. “ does that sound good? ”
seth stares, sweating and trembling.
iovita pats his cheek. “ good boy, ” they croon, and when they walk away, all the heat in the room leaves with them.
