The Book of Doors & Keys: A Manifestation Grimoire for 2024

Hey friends! I started working on a big art magic project recently.

I thrifted this children's board book full of fun little flaps awhile ago and my mind instantly knew I was going to do some art witchery with it. (Pictured below is an example page that's been lightly gessoed over.)

After turning over the concept and personal symbolism of doors in my mind for awhile, I hashed out this idea to create a sort of living vision board that I can add to throughout the new year (and continue to open doors when I need them). Btw, I mean living in the sense of the ability to change and build, not like a servitor or spirit vessel.

I know I want to heavily utilize imagery over words for these manifestations, for a few reasons. One, I already have a separate manifestation vessel that harbors written petitions (I call it my wishing well, I'll post about it if anyone is interested!) Two, I've been itching to dive into folkloric and personal symbolism to capture the essence of my desires in a more creative, aesthetic and visually stimulating way. And three, just look at those flap shapes! Does the flap fold up, down, left or right? Rounded or squared or another shape entirely? How big or how small is the flap, and how big or small is the manifestation that should go inside it? They're begging to be interpreted and played upon! Flaps on flaps, baby. Pockets and fold-outs and ephemera, oh my. Can you tell how much this excites me?

Anyway, here's what I came up with for a lovely lively cover. It's not exactly what I imagined when I begun, but I find it fitting nonetheless. The cover has been turned into a giant door, and the magic in opening it via the knob is surprisingly powerful. A door to many more doors, each one eagerly waiting for me to open it.

And here is the unfinished first page I began today.

There's not quite enough pages to dedicate one to each month, so I'll have to play around with the format, but the idea is that every door houses a manifestation, a feeling, a spell, an energy, a goal or result, etc. that I wish to attract and embody and integrate. The act of opening the doors and what lies inside them releases a bit of the spell's energy each time and can be used in conjunction with related spells/rituals. And of course energy can/will be added back into each door in ways that I haven't fully realized quite yet. Am I making sense? Hopefully.

More to come in the future, at least what I'm willing to share at those times. And with it, I'm sure, more rambling that will hopefully eventually flesh out a true understanding of this magic I'm creating.

I feel that depending on a person's personal gnosis surrounding how correspondences *work*, crystals can absolutely hold inherent magical power. They come from the earth like plants and trees and therefore some might believe they have inherent magic or spirit.

Everything else tho? Yeah they don't do that shit.

Things crystals can do: be an object of focus for a meditation, visualisation or ritual ~ be a visual reminder of your goals/intentions ~ have meaning SPECIFIC TO YOU that strengthens over time and with repeated use ~ be a psychological ‘anchor’ ~ look pretty ~ hurt worse than Lego when stepped on

Things crystals cannot do: heal illness ~ stand in for medical treatments or vaccinations ~ purify water ~ heal dogs or children ~ deflect bad vibes ~ have inherent magickal powers ~ replace therapy or psych meds

Witchcraft is about discernment, not believing in everything. Wisdom is a balance of intuition, learning, experience and critical thinking.

Actually I think he'd consume the world news almost exclusively through that format

Because after you've lived for 600 years, you no longer make your head heavy with grave details. You've lived through so much that you've realized how absurd life really is.

And that even though the times change a lot, humans, and life itself, will always be the same. Nothing will change that. You can complain about it, you can be angry at it, but that's all you can do with it. And so you start to at least laugh at it :D

...Also I think the biggest side effect the curse of immortality would have on Vlad would be that

he'd become one of the biggest trolls in history 😆

His name has become engulfed with so many untruthful stereotypes that if he ever revealed his true identity, he'd enjoy every chance he'd got to take his favourite warhammer and smash the expectations the others have of him into tiny little pieces. He'd have much fun with that 😄. He'd live for that face that reporter made above 😁

Okay so I’ve been really into Alien Stage recently and maybe I’m just dumb and this was so obvious to everyone else that they didn’t have to say it out loud but I haven’t seen anyone else mention the fact that it was Io who taught Till how to sing.

Again maybe I’m just slow but when I first read through this I thought the implication was that Till picked up singing on his own from watching the other contestants on Alien Stage and Io just didn’t have the heart to stop him.

But you can see in their hand that Io is holding sheet music and singing along with Till and we see Till with sheet music earlier in the comic and he clearly knows how to read it which implies someone taught him and there really isn’t anyone else it could be besides them.

They look shocked though so maybe they weren’t expecting him to pick it up or at least not so quickly. Still I was just thinking of how crazy it is that they had an active role in teaching him how to sing, despite knowing what would happen to him, especially after they recognised how good he sounded and still didn’t get him to stop.

I feel like they parallel Mizi’s guardian Shine in that regard, where they both represent parents who despite loving and caring for their children still allow them into the idol industry despite knowing how awful it is.

In slay the princess there are so many opinions on the princess that I personally believe really fit with Io (siege smp). I've done this before with a different opinion but I'm doing another

This one is sharp and single-minded. She is cruelty. But she is also joy. She will make for an indomitable heart. Do not mourn her - she is exactly where she needs to be.

This one is sharp and single-minded. Io was able to escape the crypt because they tricked Percy, but they didn't need to try to bite him but in their mind they needed to hurt the council (because they thought Percy was part of the council). This shows both their wit and focused goal of revenge.

She is cruelty. But she is also joy. Io used to be kind, a little abrasive and prideful but still kind, at least according to Vers when talking to Dawn. But they now show themselves to be dangerous to anyone who might try to hurt them.

She will make for an indomitable heart. The coucil would definately try braking down Io mentally throughout the centuries but Io still kept fighting for their freedom and revenge.

Do not mourn her - she is exactly where she needs to be. This sounds like something Vers would probably say to Kahza because Kahza was against Io being imprisoned again. Whereas Vers knows this is what Io needs to truly live again.

I have a lot more quotes from slay the princess that fit Io and I think the reason why is because the princess is imprisoned at the begining and in many routes her 'trust' gets betrayed and so the context is the same but more importantly I think is that the princess changes on your actions and the councils actions have been far from kind. As well as the princess often being considered a metaphor for love which Io's life has been shaped by, their love and trust for Elyas being in their eyes betrayed.

but those are just my thoughts, I might do this again but I should probably work on my Io fic instead.

If we are being realistic here, real vampire!Vlad would heavily change the history of Romania and Balkans in general. That part does not make any sense in the stories of fictional Dracula(s) - as soon as they turn into a vampire, they forget about their most bitter enemy (TURKS) and go live in their own private la la land for the next 500 years. Uhmm??? I can understand, to some degree, why Stoker's Dracula did that, since vampires are weak in the book and it's easy to kill them. But Hellsings Alucard? You really want to tell me this eldritch ball of fury and hatred did not kill every ottoman soldier with his bare hands and burn Constantinopole to the ground when he finally had power to do so??? Did he really just packed his bags and said "my work here is done. adios 🫡" I meaaaan-

And yes, I did think of that.

(actually by a complete coincidence I was just brainstorming a scene where he nearly succumbs to doing exactly what you say 😄, and how that would go - although it happens in the 21st century. I mean I have the kinda same scene planned when he gets cursed in the 15th century, but I don't have it written down yet 😅)

But for now, I can either give you a complex answer or a more simplified answer 😄.

OR I can actually post the part of the story where he goes through that development! 😁 ...and attach to it notes explaining why he's acting the way he is.

Or I can do it the same way I did it with The Beheading (story + later detailed psychoanalysis of the scene)

that floor person ask is so sunny to me because to me io is a ceiling person. io immediately seeks out the highest spot in the room and gets there. no one knows exactly how io got on the top shelf without a stool or without the shelf falling down, but io's there.
