RMIT Design Management Sem 1 - 2024

Team 9 - IRD VN Brief 2 & 3

Week 6: Stickers.

What's been going on in week 6? Team's organization chart: Tâm - main idea guy and director, editor; Thao - script storyboard and communicator; Khanh - script storyboard, stickers and presentation slides; Ngan - script storyboard and video editor. Again, everyone pitches ideas for storyboarding, script and video making process. Timeline: just proposed detailed brief, now 4 weeks left. This week will be used to start preparing props for the video as well as making sure the script is good and other preparations stuff. The next 2 weeks will be used for filming and editing and last week will be used for the booklet. Individual contribution: see team organization chart. Peer review: still great so far.

For this week, Tâm went out to meet our client F2F together with team 8 and 10 to propose some stuff to the client. I also teamed up with team 8 and 10 to work on the mascot as well as stickers and together with Thảo and Ngan refine and fix up our chosen script and storyboard.

Our challenges right now is that we're a team consisting of 3 people who mainly do illustrations so it's kinda terrifying knowing that we will be filming videos instead of doing animation or illustration. Like not just knowing how to film well, but also worrying about props, where to film, editing, effects and sound, atc… And also I'm feeling like we're stagnating in terms of progress at the moment. Maybe that's just because I'm doing DM&C only in this semester but I'm finding a lot of "free time". This week's main objective is still preparing props and to meet and discuss more about actually finalizing the script as well as confirming where to shoot our videos and important stuff like that. But because we havent had anytime right after the client meeting to actually meet with each other and talk (due to personal problems or being busy), we are now waiting for 3 whole days without doing anything since we can't meet each other and talk, we can't confirm anything and can't proceed forward. And we don't want to just chat or through facecam meetings because we can't really discuss like that. Maybe we should have found a better way to communicate or use this time that we have right now that we couldn't do anything. We should have had our own meeting right after the client meeting in order to confirm everything and proceed instead of waiting. I'm also about to meet and do the stickers with team 8 and 10. Together with having my script chosen for the video while not knowing anything about filming or editing or where do we even film our videos is stressing me out greatly.

Client and other teams seemed to really like my stickers demo as well as my script especially the chosen one - the trying on different socks. The other two using sock puppets are fine but hard to understand.

After meeting with team 8-10 and our own team 9:

For the mascot, i worked for team 8 a bit and my suggestion is still not to put the little details like PrEP pills, HIVST and condoms into the mascot's front pockets as well as text logos (IRD insisted they want people to KNOW it's from IRD and Eclipse when they first saw it) because it will look very small or distorted when the mascot is in poses. Not only that, all those details will also be blocked by an arm or something, and it could create frustration especially with text logos when it's partially hidden because people couldn't read the full text. Despite it's team 8's design based on IRD's preference, I still really don't like the fact that I have to draw small objects IRD asked on stickers. So I decided to just draw 3 more extra stickers on top of my 6 Pride Month themed ones. These 3 will feature the mascot holding those items in a giant form so people can actually know what those are.

And for our team 9 own meeting, despite we already sent IRD script for our videos, we decided to go offscript. Not by a whole lot, but enough to notice. It's because as time comes we can always think of something new to play with in terms of the vibe or twist that can actually elevate the experience of people watching it. For example, my chosen script for the 30s video having quite a bit funny bits inside the dialogue - a familiar format in Vietnam, we decided to change that into something more artistic and more subtle in terms of the message by experiementing with editing, pacing and maybe even not using dialogues at all. We do all these changes to make sure that the audience actually want to watch the video. Actually, what we doing exactly right now is designing for the clients of IRD and not IRD themselves since we think IRD's personal taste for these videos are quite corporative and predictable and repetitive even. We wanted something new and worth looking at!

After the meeting I dont feel stagnating anymore, at least on my part. I feel like my script still need a lot of thinking to make sure it goes smoothly during the filming process as well as how the editing and pace will go. I even got 3 more extra stickers to do and I ought to finish them before filming so that I can actually help my team.

Happiness of Unchanging

"Take...that!"

"Wo-woah! Geez, I know you hit hard, but this is way harder than before!"

"Heh! Blame Grimesy for gettin' me into the military. Haven't working on the farm made you stronger too, hm?"

In the middle of a small village, in a small, recently ruined hut, there were three girls under the exposed roof. Two of them were pillow-fighting, while one was looking from aside silently, with a small, content smile.

[CW: Mention of (canon) injury (really just a mention), spoilers for Amphibia S2 ending]

"Oh yeah? I've gotten strong too! How else could I have beaten you on the Toad Tower?"

It was clear they were having a sleepover party, with the girls awake after the clock in the pebbles struck midnight, and three futons laid out messily under the starlit night sky.

"Not this time! Try dethroning the Queen of Sleepovers!"

Marcy observed her two best friends Anne and Sasha playing, them still having the energy and motivation. Even after a fight with hornets during a dinner gathering (which was what ruined the hut, thanks to Grime's Vol-cake-no), and an intra-Wartwood Battle of the Bands (also thanks to Grime's beautiful harp performance, literally). They always seemed to have boundless energy, both in Amphibia and on Earth.

And Marcy was grateful to have met them. Although they were different - so different - she was grateful that fate had brought them together. Be it in the kindergarten, in Saint James Middle School or in the second temple, it must have been fate for them to meet at the right time, at the right place, over and over again. Perhaps just a little deviation in their actions, and they could have never even seen each other.

Just being together, and that's all enough for Marcy.

"I bet Mar-Mar has become pretty strong too, being in the royal guard and all. Right, Mar-Mar?"

Marcy was too caught up in her thoughts, she didn't notice the pillow flying straight towards her face. Until impact, that was.

"H-hey!" Marcy removed the pillow with a yell, which was slightly stuck to her face from how hard Sasha had thrown. Upon removal, the embarrassed Marcy saw her friends laughing and chuckling.

"Whatcha thinking, ya nerd? C'mon! We got this house to ourselves just for tonight!" Sasha exclaimed, arms akimbo.

"Yeah..." Anne looked around the ruined, practically inhabitable hut sheepishly. "Don't think the Plantars would still want to live here anyway..."

"So it's gonna be just the three of us!" Sasha pulled her two friends together for a hug, grinning brightly.

"Yay!" Anne cheered in response, while Marcy nodded happily.

Yes. Just being together, and that's more than enough.

After an hour-long pillow fight, with the "warzone" extending to the whole village of Wartwoods, the three girls lay on their intertwined futons, panting in exhaustion but smiling in joy. Just like old times.

Through the hollow roof, on the cloudless night sky, countless stars decorated the dark green velvet cloth, with a red circular ornament at the centre of the scenery.

The three friends stared at the magnificent picture, their eyes reflecting the light of nature's wonder. Then, Anne suddenly pointed out.

"Huh? I thought it was a crescent moon just this evening?" She took her phone out from her pocket, scrolling to the group photo she had taken with everyone after the Battle of the Bands.

"Yeah! It was a crescent moon! Above Frobo!" Anne showed the picture to her friends, who also responded in surprise.

"Whaaaat? We~ird!" Sasha put her chin on her right palm, tilting her head, as if she was visibly pondering.

Meanwhile, Marcy's eyes widened, her focus shifting between the picture and the night sky. Then she fixated her vision on the night sky, and concluded in astonishment.

"Lunar eclipse...It is a full moon after all..."

"Wow..." Sasha and Anne also turned their gazes to the full moon, observing the celestial body in awe.

"Dad always says that a full moon symbolises union. That's why we have family gatherings on Mid-Autumn Festivals, when the moon is the brightest and biggest.

'People experience sadness and happiness, separations and reunions.

Just as the moon is sometimes dim, sometimes bright ; Sometimes round and complete, sometimes missing a piece.

Such phenomenons have hardly been in our favours, ever since ancient times.

But I wish for longevity for all families.

Even though miles apart, we can still observe the same full moon together.'

That's what Dad always tells me."

"Oh right! Lemme send you guys the pic!" Anne shared the group photo with Marcy and Sasha via her phone, the message arriving at the two girls' devices just a few seconds later. "Sent!"

"Wow. This is, like, our first group photo here..." Sasha looked at her phone screen, realising that the band performance was the first casual, friendly activity the friend trio had done, ever since they had arrived to this world.

"Yeah! And it'll make a great souvenir when we're back home! Let's print it out, and put it on a photo frame! Oh! Or make it into stickers, and stick 'em everywhere!" Anne happily suggested, already excited for the journey tomorrow.

And Marcy merely smiled. Looking up at the night sky, avoiding their visions, she asked her friends.

"Hey...wouldn't you wish to go home?"

A seemingly silly question, but not to Marcy.

"Of course I do!" Anne replied, without thinking about the question.

"Yeah, sure." So did Sasha.

Marcy paused after hearing their very much expected answers, before responding to them, eyes still fixated on the full moon above.

"Me too."

Under the wishing stars, the three friends promised.

That they would go home. Together. Hand in hand.

"If, by chance, there is a God...Please...It is already enough. It is alright now. We will figure out a way ourselves. Therefore, please don't give us any more. Please don't take any more away from us.

God, please...

Let us be together, just as we are now."

"I just wanted everything to stay unchanged, but apparently that is the hardest thing to do."

When Marcy looked down at the fiery blade through her chest, she realised everything she had wished for were now broken.

"Andrias is right. I don't want to go back. Ever.

From the moment Dad told me the news, I don't want to go back ever again.

The moment I go back will be the moment of departure.

I didn't want to be alone so bad, I believed in some outlandish magic. The knowledge learnt from a random book dropped by a random librarian. The artefact found in a random shop on a random street.

But I believed it. I truly did.

When I saw the music box, I wished. I closed my eyes, clasped my hands, and wished, from the bottom of my heart...

...that, if there really is magic, please...

...let us be together, forever and ever.

Just together. When...where...how...they don't matter.

As long as we are together, it'll be enough. It'll be alright.

I don't need anything more. I don't need anything less.

Only the unchanging every-day. And I'll be happy.

That's all I wish for."

"...but not even that is allowed."

"Marcy...!"

Marcy stumbled backwards when the blade was retrieved from her body. As her vision started to dim from tears and pain, and the image of Anne and the Plantars fading away, Marcy let out a dry chuckle.

"That's right...This is the price...The price of wishing for an unattainable happiness..."

Marcy took a step towards the open portal. She wouldn't be going through it. No. She promised herself she wouldn't ever want to go back. She had to keep this promise.

Marcy reached for Anne. Her best friend crying for her. The music box in hands. Tears in her own eyes. She couldn't make it far enough to give Anne that cursed artefact, but at least she could give her friend her apology.

"I'm sorry...for everything..."

As she fell forward, Marcy could hear Anne crying out her name one last time. And with that, even for just a bit, Marcy felt she had been redeemed.

"...it's nice knowing you..."

Her body hit the cold hard ground, the music box in her hands dropping onto the metal flooring. A dazzling white light emerged from the instrument, covering the entire palace in a magical gleam.

In that tiny fraction of time, shorter than the blink of an eye, Anne clearly heard Marcy asked. With a small, content smile.

"Hey...wouldn't you wish to go home?"

You dance on clouds. Small wisps float up between your toes. All the words you could've had are eclipsed by the sight before you.

“Baekhyun, what....”

Everything around you is beautiful. A canopy of clouds pool between mountain peaks. The sunrise washes over them like a watercolor painting. You can still see the stars in the western sky, diamond droplets on a velvet background.

Arms wrap around your waist. A chin drops onto your shoulder.

“Happy Valentine's Day,” Baekhyun whispers into your ear. He kisses your cheek. “I love you.”

It all started when you got home. After pulling another long shift, and you had just enough energy left to make two stops before home—one at Baekhyun's favorite local bakery for a cupcake that said 'I'm Sweet on You' and another at a small bookstore to buy a card that said I Love You in all the ways you couldn't.

As soon as you got home, you set your stuff down and went to find Baekhyun. He was where you predicted he'd be, in the small bedroom he had made into his gaming room/office.

You knocked on the door frame and waited. Baekhyun jumped. “Hey!” he said, quickly turning his monitor off and getting up to greet you. “Sorry, I didn't hear you come in.”

“Happy Valentine's Day.” You pulled the card and cupcake out from behind your back.

There was a simple comfort you found in making Baekhyun smile like this. It never changed and you never grew tired of it. It was a mixture of boyish delight tinged with shyness, like he couldn't wait to open it, but wasn't exactly sure what he'd done to earn it in the first place.

He opened the card, read it silently, then closed it and set it, along with the cupcake, down on his desk.

“Thank you,” he said, and kissed you, soft and sincere.

But he pulled away and looked nervous.

“I didn't buy you anything for Valentine's Day.”

“Oh.” You blinked.

It wasn't a big deal. You hadn't really wanted anything for Valentine's Day anyways. So you were a little confused with why it made you so upset. Maybe it was the gesture, the idea behind it; the knowledge that he might think of you in the times you weren't thinking of him. Except this time he hadn't. And that niggling little doubt returned to make you think: 'Ah. He doesn't love me as much as I love him.'

“That's okay,” you said, even though it was not. “You didn't have to get me anything. I'm gonna wash up for bed now, though. I'm really tired.” You smiled because maybe Baekhyun found comfort in smiles the way you did, then you went to the bathroom to shower and cry in peace.

Baekhyun looked up at you as soon as you exited the bathroom. All the furniture had been pushed against the walls and he sat there in the middle of all that empty space looking like a forlorn puppy.

“Sit?” He patted the space next to him.

You hesitated for a moment.

“Baekhyun, I'm really tired--”

“I want to take you flying.”

That stopped you. He was serious. So you listened. You sat.  

“We're on the floor,” you said. “Are you gonna tell me the carpet's enchanted?”

“No.” He reached behind him and pulled out a VR headset. “Can I...?” He motioned as if to put it over your head. You lowered your head and he slipped it over your eyes.

It was black.

“Hold on. I'll be right back, okay? Don't move.”

You heard the soft footfalls of his socked feet move back down the hallway into his game room. The screen began to brighten, and then, life. Suddenly a river far below. Mountains, then trees and sky. Birds. It was like watching the creation of Earth. When you looked up, a ceiling of clouds brushed your head.

It even smelled: of lavender, of rain.

“I'm going to touch you now. Let's take you higher.”

Baekhyun's hands folded over yours. He tugged you gently forward, then with a gasp, you found yourself hurtling through the clouds only to emerge at the pinnacle of the world.

The wind up here.... you felt it. Felt the way your chemise fluttered against your legs, the chill of your wet hair set in. The sound rushed around you, swept you along and made you giddy.

A waltz began playing over the sound of wind, and Baekhyun gathered you close.

You dance on clouds.

“I have one more thing to show you.”

He takes you farther, his hand warm and sweaty in yours.

The moon hangs big and bright in the sky. A swing hangs from the apex of the crescent, ivy snaking down the ropes from which purple flowers bloom. A hand pushes gently down on your shoulder and you trust him enough to fall back onto a cushioned landing.

“Look right,” he tells you.

When you do, you see a comet, tail streaking past for what must be miles. Its glows a luminous pale blue, and as you sit in its wake, iridescent particles float past you.

“It's called Hyun04B. You can make a wish on it.”

A translucent hand tool appears on the screen and selects the comet. A drop down menu appears with the options to 'Catch Hyun04B' or 'Make a Wish on Hyun04B.'

“If you choose Make a Wish, it'll record a message. Just push this button while you talk,” he guides your fingers to the side of the VR headset, “and when you're done, it'll automatically save to the program so I can go back in later and listen to it. It comes around every 40 minutes, so you can make multiple wishes a day.

“I know how stressed you've been over money lately, and so I thought really hard about what I could do or make to help you. And so I thought, maybe I could be your genie if you tell me all your wishes.”

When he takes off the headset, you return to reality and find that it is not wanting. Baekhyun is flushed and apprehensive in front of you. The ceiling fan is still on, stirring the air lazily. In the corner, you spy Baekhyun's bluetooth speaker, and your aromatherapy diffuser is plugged into the wall by the couch.

“How was it,” he asks, to which you can only shake your head in reply and kiss him.

You feel like the human embodiment of Wonder. God may've made the world in seven days, but Byun Baekhyun did it in two months just for you.

“I do have one wish, though,” you tell him.

He raises an eyebrow, no doubt surprised you're asking him already.

You can't look him in the eye.

“Never stop loving me?”

“Baby, no,” he says and pulls you close, cheek pressed to your temple. “I never will.”

(Later, he dances 'Genie' by SNSD because he's clearly been holding it in and finally, finally gets to eat his cupcake.

“Ugh,” he says with his mouth still full. “I love you.”

You wipe crumbs off his t-shirt. “I love you more.”

He sticks the edible 'I'm Sweet on You' sticker to your cheek and kisses it.

“I love you the most,” he says and sticks his tongue out.

You smile and don't argue.)

Like yea sorry buddy, you get your own body that is truly you for the first time, but the star had lasting effects and now you’ll have chronic pain for a long time, if not forever. Yeah there’s not way to change this.

I am literally ALWAYS overjoyed to share what I can about IRD, it's such a passion project of mine you have no idea!!! So here's some KC concept art + my insanity about one of Eclipse's scenes + and actual snippet of (potentially) one of Bloodmoon and Lunar's interactions :3

guys I've been making this tsams au for months now and a crucial part of Eclipse's character development is that he gets rlly attatched to this cat, but I have just been referring to this cat as "the cat" so,

The only notable thing with IRD Eclipse's OS is that he'd have a very well organized system until it just suddenly... stops. empty files. memories sent to default folders. no more notes are left on every date to recall them easier. there's long stretches of time between the occasional note, saying mindless things like "romcons are stupid i hate humans" or "leather is a nice texture when you think about it" to much more self-hating things like "i should have let the star destroy us" or "this is pathetic. i'm being pathetic."

Did u guys know? It Runs Deeper Earth and Eclipse friendship. Did you know? Earth learns tailoring for her and Monty and later uses it to make Eclipse his own clothes that truly reflect him rather than reflecting a Sun and Moon combo. Did you know? He never thought he'd earn this kind of care.

Thinking about Lunar in my own AU ☹️ Like could you imagine wanting to cling to the idea of your brother being a kind, loving person that you rationalize everything wrong he ever did to you because otherwise, you'd never know how to cope with the idea that he was cruel to you for no good reason and it never had to happen. because if he loved the idea of you enough to build you with his own two hands, then surely he didn't mean it when he told you how worthless you were to him. he loved you enough to give you a matching name. he loved you enough to call you his brother. he loved you. (didn't he?)

I'd also like to take this moment tho to say how wholly and utterly amused I am at how different IRD Lunar is from canon Lunar LMAO 😭

Because IRD Eclipse 1) never killed Lunar and 2) disappeared before he could be killed by Moon, Lunar never really got to the point of "I hate Eclipse so bad I want nothing more than to kill him with my own two hands."

Lunar, instead, still has that part of them that's delighted by Eclipse and misses him and they almost don't know how to be angry at Eclipse. The fact that Eclipse just, completely goes MIA for years doesn't help either bc Lunar spends those years building up all these plans for how to find him and restore their relationship and they think that if they can just find him then he will be a totally changed person and everything will be perfect.

So. I think IRD Lunar would be a little very horrified by canon Lunar LOL

i dunno if it will ever actually happen but i entertain the idea of ird Lunar having a human bestie like all the time. i haven't solidified it yet bc all the reaons i have to add them can just as easily be done without them, but i still think its very cute......
