Book Challenge 2020 (100 books!!) (I did it!!)
After forgetting to track my reading for three years, I started recording my reading on Tumblr last year again, and I’m committed to continuing that this year!
This year is my final year of my Bachelor’s Degrees (I’m finishing English in June) and I’m planning to do a gap year from September on, so now more university after June (at least as far as 2020 is concerned).
I do not really foresee any issues or obstacles to reading this year, except of course finishing my thesis which will probably take quite some time, so I do expect a decline around April until early June. Although I do have a lot more time off in my gap year, I used to read a lot of mandatory books for my studies, so I don’t know whether having a gap year will mean reading more books. Since I’m not doing any university studying, I am interested in reading academic books by myself, studying by myself. Those books are often longer, denser and just take more time to get through; consequently, I might read fewer books in the same amount of energy and time spent reading.
To make a (somewhat) long story short: my expectations are in line with the amount of books I’ve read in the last years, so I’m expecting to read 75 books this year!
Update: it’s mid-October and I’ve already read 99 books this year, so I’ve finished my original goal of 75 books! Now I’m going for 100 books (which should be easy to do, and after that we’ll just see how it goes!).
The crossed book is the one I’m currently reading, I’ve written reviews for books that have a (x) behind them, with the (x) being a link to my Goodreads review!
Update: Today (November 23) I’ve read 114 books so I’ve finished my challenge of 100 books! Right now, I’m still 25 books ahead schedule! Let’s see if I can keep that energy up!

Reaper76Week 2018 || Day 4: “Defend” (defense/support) Day 1 || Day 2 || Day 3 || Day 4 || Day 5 || Day 6 || Day 7
@lilized: The long-promised, two-pages action scene!
In which we follow the proud Blizzard’s tradition of throwing Gabriel around, our beloved Sarge tries not to show how much Jack’s daring display made him fall a little bit more, and “Gabe” is born.
We’re going to take a little break from updating during the weekend, but we’ll be back on Monday. We’re sorry we couldn’t respect the daily schedule, but Irene is a hopeless perfectionist who lied to my face when she said: “Of course I’m not going to color it.”
This totally counts, Irene, you cheated. You do not get a pass just because it’s greyscale.
(Though seriously, give her some love, she deserves it.)
@ufficiosulretro: My brain has like… 0% battery right now so I’m just telling you this: I love to challenge myself a lot while having fun with these fan comics, you know, and I’ve probably already said that once, but this time I wanted to create something unusual and deep and cool and great because I feel like working with @lilized really brings out the best from me. I hope you’re enjoying reading this comic as much I’m having fun drawing it. Thanks, everyone. :)

MVP Kamala's schedule for April 7th
Here Madam Vice President's Wednesday's publicly known schedule:
1) In the morning, she joined President Biden in the Oval Office to receive the President's Daily Briefings.
2) In the morning, she received a call from Mexico's President, Andrés Manuel López Obrador. According to the readout, Vice President Harris reaffirmed the importance of the bilateral relationship with Mexico and thanked the president for his cooperation on migration issues.
Tumblr media
They agreed to continue to work together to address the root causes of migration from the Northern Triangle countries of El Salvador, Guatemala, and Honduras – including poverty, violence, and lack of economic opportunity.  They also discussed deepening the U.S.-Mexico relationship to target human smuggling and human trafficking.   The Vice President updated President López Obrador on the United States’ efforts to surge humanitarian assistance to the Northern Triangle region.
3) Later in the day, President Biden delivered remarks on the historic investments on the American Job Plans which Vice President Harris attended and listened in the South Court Auditorium at the Eisenhower Executive Office Building.

MASTERLIST
Rules:
my little caveat about my smut-filled chapters
Chapters with smut have a ***
STILES STILINSKI//TEEN WOLF
Tumblr media
- The Bad Parts In
- Void!Stiles Stilinski x Reader/OFC (1/2) - After Allison, Scott and Stiles come back from sacrificing themselves to save their parents, Y/n notices a change and decides whether to save the boy she loves, who may no longer be there, or let the Pack destroy the Nogitsune, and with it, Stiles.
- The College Years ***NEW CHAPTER***
- Stiles Stilinski x Reader/OFC Series (44-?) - AU where Stiles’ “vision” happened and everyone ended up going to school near each other. Stiles and Scott live together and go to school at University of California at Berkeley. They think that they have escaped the supernatural drama that engulfs Beacon Hills on a daily basis, at least during the school year, until one night in the middle of January, they happen upon a girl fighting two grown men in a park.
- The Mistake
- Stiles Stilinski x Reader/OFC Series (8/8) - When Stiles Stilinski and Y/n Y/L/N were sixteen years old, they made a pact: if in twenty years, they were both still single and their friends had all gotten married, they would marry each other. At twenty-six, a turn of events and a wedding, change their entire lives
- The Queen’s Consort
- Stiles Stilinski x OFC Series (1-?) - Isolde Plantagenet, the first daughter of the first York King of England, Henry, lives a relatively happy life as the Princess of England, and second in line to the throne, behind her older brother, Arthur. The only thorn in her side is her betrothed, Sir Jackson Whittemore, the Duke of Suffolk. She is resigned to her fate as someone who is forced to marry for duty, not love, until she meets a man at a ball.
MITCH RAPP//AMERICAN ASSASSIN
Tumblr media
- The Recruit
- Mitch Rapp x Reader/OFC Series (45-?) - Mitch’s fiancee, Katrina, was brutally murdered in a terrorist attack a year and a half ago. He had been hunting the perpetrators by himself for over a year, when he finally came across the radar of Irene Kennedy, the CIA Director of Counterterrorism. Irene decided to send him to Stan Hurley to be properly trained to become a covert assassin, on behalf of the American government. When he agreed to all of this, he never expected to meet Y/N.
THOMAS EDISON//THE MAZE RUNNER
Tumblr media
- The Ties That Bind
- Thomas x OFC Series (2-?) - When Thomas was eight years old, before the solar flares ravaged the earth and WCKD took control of his life, he was just a boy named Stephen, who heard a voice late at night.
DYLAN O’BRIEN//REAL PERSON HUMAN THING
Tumblr media
- The Summer Fling
- Dylan O’Brien x Reader/OFC Series (25/25) - Y/n Y/L/N was always aware of who Dylan O’Brien was, and even attended Boston College, as a friend of his older sister, Julia’s. They didn’t meet until years later, at a bar on the East End of Long Island, New York, one summer afternoon in June of 2017. Will it remain simply a fond summer memory, or will it turn into a romance for the ages?
DAVE HODGMAN//THE FIRST TIME
Tumblr media
- The First Time (In London)
- Dave Hodgman x Reader/OFC One-Shot  - Dave takes a flight to London for a semester abroad which ends with a handshake?
STUART TWOMBLY//THE INTERNSHIP

Wear A Mask: An Executive Order
By Irene Ryu, University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign Class of 2020
July 18, 2020
Tumblr media
The COVID-19 pandemic has swept the world stirring chaos in the healthcare industry. Ever since the first outbreak of the COVID-19 case in the United States, there is a consistent upward surge in the COVID-19 infection rate in the United States. In April and May, Covid-19, the disease caused by the coronavirus, led to as many as 3,000 deaths per day and claimed the lives of roughly 7 to 8 percent of Americans known to have been infected. The number of daily deaths is now closer to 600, and the death rate is less than 5 percent.[1]Since the declaration of the COVID-19 as a national emergency, the United States has been administering more than 600,000[2] diagnostic testings each day. This early identification of infections enables healthcare workers to intervene with the disease earlier thus, decreasing the chance of further infections to other people. Wearing face masks and social distancing are two of the most well-known procedures for combating COVID-19.
Texas being one of the states with the highest number of COVID-19 cases, the hospitalization hit 6,094 settings, which is setting a new record for the third straight day.[3]Governor Greg Abbott of Texas has issued an executive order on July 2, 2020, requiring face coverings over the nose and mouth when inside a commercial entity or other building or space open to the public, or when in an outdoor public space, wherever it is not feasible to maintain six feet of social distancing from another person not in the same household[4]. This executive order was implemented to prevent and control the spread of infection due to the reopening of the state amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. In addition to Texas requiring the wearing of face masks in public to prevent the spread of COVID-19, North Carolina, California, Nevada, Rhode Island, New York, Delaware, Connecticut, New Mexico, Illinois, and Washington[5] have also mandated wearing face masks.
In a situation where the executive order of mandating of face masks in public would be violated, first-time violators will receive a verbal or written warning, with subsequent violations punishable by a fine of up to $250[6] for people residing in Texas. In addition to the fines, if wearing face masks were mandated, 15 states in the United States may have helped prevent between 230,000 and 450,000 cases of COVID-19 by May 22[7]. Therefore, mandating face masks will definitely yield a positive outcome in flattening the COVID-19 infection rate curve. The secretary of health and a lot of health experts have expressed the benefits of wearing a mask in public to protect themselves and others. Dr. Anthony Fauci, the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, who said during a June 30 Senate hearing on COVID-19 said that “Americans who don’t wear masks may propagate the further spread of infection”[8].
Wearing face masks will enable states to remain open with the statistics of COVID-19 cases under control and possibly, flatten the curve. According to the US Department of Labor, recent reopening fueled job creation at a record pace of 4.8 million in June, but employment remains 14.7 million jobs below pre-pandemic levels[9]. Therefore, not only thus mandating face masks in public is beneficial in preventing the spread of the virus and protecting oneself and another from transmitting the virus, but it will also enable states to remain functioning their businesses and improve the current damaged economic state while flattening the curve.

Hiding in Plain Sight- part seven
Evolution- Deductions vs Mind Palace: A Comprehensive Look
“Sometimes a deception is so audacious, so outrageous that you can’t see it even when it’s staring you in the face.”
We’re nearly there. Just one more part after this one. My closing argument and the entire reason for all of these posts. If you’ve ready any- or all of them- I want to thank you and hope that, once it’s all said and done, I haven’t wasted your time. <3
SERIES THREE
TAB:
I really want to try and keep this one short and simple. There’s nothing really left to uncover regarding new revelations about this episode. I mean, it’s pretty straight-forward in that it takes place in Sherlock’s head.
This episode was ground zero for EMP theory. The questionable ‘realness’ of the modern scenes led @the-7-percent-solution, @gosherlocked and myself to discuss the idea that if we couldn’t trust to know which of those modern scenes were real, then how could we know what led up to TAB was real either. And, thus a theory was born!
Tumblr media
Right from the start, we knew this episode was going to be a trip. Most everyone in fandom that had been keeping up with setlock during filming probably guessed this would largely take place in Sherlock’s head. I mean, how else could they make a suddenly Victorian era Sherlock fit into a modern series? What we weren’t prepared for was just how ‘immersed’ Sherlock truly would be within the whole thing.
So far on Sherlock
That was an understatement. Immediately, they start the episode off with a re-cap which would usually show the pertinent moments of the show. The things that we should remember from episodes past, that have led us to this point.
In a show titled Sherlock, in the episode just before this one, you would think it would be an ideal time to refresh everyone’s memories on the most important and pivotal moment from that episode. Like, oh, I don’t know:
Tumblr media
Instead, this is what they choose to show us, and the dialogue they felt important to refresh our memories about:
Inverted intro to Sherlock
“The name is Sherlock Holmes and the address is 221B Baker St.” *wink*  “Afternoon.”
“Yeah, he’s always like that”
Police officer disguise from TGG
Whipping the corpse, “Bad day was it?”
Meeting Mycroft “Since yesterday you’ve moved in with him and now your solving crimes together” Baker St door slams shut in our face
*Mwah!* To Hudders, “Look at you, all happy. It’s not decent.” “Who cares about decent? The game, Mrs Hudson, is on!”
Parliament explodes
“Don’t make people into heroes, John. Heroes don’t exist and if they did-”
John in the Symtex vest at the pool “I wouldn’t be one of them”
“I will burn the heart out of you”
Irene and the vicar “Right, this should do it”
“Are you wearing any pants?” Giggle
Irene using her whiphand “This is how I want you to remember me, the woman who beat you”
“But, there never was any monster” “Sherlock”
“Here we are at last” Moriarty’s suicide
“Goodbye, John” “SHERLOCK!”
“Those things will kill you” As John struggles to get to Sherlock
Lestrade, “Oh, you bastard”
“The thrill of the chase, the blood pumping through your veins”
John chasing Sherlock across the street from ASiP (first case)
“Just the two of us against the rest of the world”
Glasgow kiss
“WAIT!” Sherlock jumps over gate in TRF
“We’re going to need to coordinate” Sherlock’s grave
“I asked you for one more miracle. I asked you to stop being dead”
“I heard you”
“Shut up. You are not a puzzle solver. You never have been. You’re a drama queen. Now there is a man in there-” Sherlock puts on his deerstalker “-about to die. The game is on! SOLVE IT!”
“He is the Napoleon of blackmail” CAM opens the ‘closet’, regards his mind palace
“No chance for you to be a hero this time, Mr. Holmes” as Mycroft’s helicopter hovers
“I’m a high-functioning sociopath” Shoots CAM
“There is no prison in which to incarcerate Sherlock without causing a riot on a daily basis. The alternative however would require your approval”
TARMAC HANDSHAKE HELL™
“To the very best of times, John”
Flies away
“Did you miss me?”
“How is this possible?”
“How is the exile going?” “I’ve only been gone 4 minutes”
“Well. I certainly hope you’ve learned your lesson.”
“Who needs me this time?”
Moriarty’s ‘miss me?’ vid (but not the one that was shown on all the tv screens) The real deal.
“England”
Plane returns
At this point, it is still all about Sherlock and John.
More under the cut.
As I was watching this, I made a separate post about the only bit we see of Mary in the whole thing. But, also what struck me most were the images and corresponding dialogue of this part:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
They made certain to remind us that John has called Sherlock a ‘drama queen’. Can’t imagine why that would be relevant in an episode about to take place completely within Sherlock’s mind.
But, I also went out on a limb as to what the second two images could mean with the dialogue they are shown with:
*EMP alert* If I were a person that believed Sherlock is in coma (I am) and that he could possibly hear what is going on around him (I do) then I could argue that this might be a bit of coma bleed-through, or simply that Sherlock is telling himself- reminding himself- that he has to solve this case. This very ‘old’ case of The Abominable Bride because he is, in fact, dying.
What I’m confusingly trying to say, and point out here, has to do with a lot of the complaints of S4. That Mofftiss lost the plot. Which, again, may very well be a possibility. No one is perfect, those asshats, especially, BUT-
Would they have managed to to write Mary as this amazing villain and then boop! in the same episode just erase that entire plot point? To what end? I guess the argument could be made that they merely wanted an excuse to do that whole grand mind palace segment, but did it have to be Mary? They could have had Janine shoot Sherlock, or even CAM for that matter. Sherlock did break into his place of business. It feels as if there is more of a long-game at play here than we are willing to allow ourselves to believe, since S4 aired.
Mofftiss may not be perfect writers and story-tellers, but they can manage to tell a cohesive story. Nothing since the shooting has been cohesive. And that feels purposeful. If they had wanted a truly redeemed Mary, they wouldn’t have made our eyes twitch with this image:
Tumblr media
They wouldn’t have pointed and shouted for us to hear these lines:
Over the many years it has been my privilege to recall the exploits of my remarkable friend, Mr Sherlock Holmes, it has sometimes been difficult to choose which of his many cases to set before my readers. Some are still too sensitive to recount, whilst some are still too recent in the minds of the public. But, in all our many adventures together, no case pushed my friend to such mental and physical extremes as that of The Abominable Bride.
John’s blog
The last ‘official’ entry made on John’s blog was after the wedding. A month before Mary shot Sherlock. A post made by a pouty baby Sherlock about the wedding and complaining that John was on his ‘sex holiday’. The post before that was dated almost a month earlier (Yes, the dates for the wedding are different in the show as they are on the blog, I don’t know why, but for arguments sake, I’m just ignoring that fact) John doesn’t update on a regular schedule. It seems he posts whenever he gets around to writing up the cases. Which is fine. It’s all good.
Tumblr media
The thing is, though, months have gone by. I’m sure it’s no secret to the public that Sherlock was shot, even if they managed to keep who did it from being public. Wouldn’t John have made some kind of post in that six months between the shooting and Christmas, to report that Sherlock was managing. They they would hopefully be able to start taking cases soon. To reassure their adoring public that their favorite crime-solving duo would be back on the case as soon as Sherlock was up to it?
Why are there no blog posts? Especially as we see in S4, there were plenty of cases being taken on. Hell, there were BLOG POSTS WRITTEN AND DISPLAYED ON SCREEN that all they had to do, to keep up appearances that something wasn’t off, was to upload them onto this blog. Instead, they say John is no longer updating. Why would John not be updating his blog, when there are blog posts we can read on the screen and everyone and their mother keep reminding us about if they don’t want to keep up with the blog anymore?
I don’t imagine it was because Joe Lidster didn’t want to do it anymore, since he was so involved with the Sherlock Twitter.
What other reason could there be for the lack of blog updates during all this time, and all these cases and the need to reassure their paying clients that all is well? Hmm???
Well, John certainly wouldn’t update the blog if he were constantly at Sherlock’s bedside, worrying whether his friend was going to make it. He certainly wouldn’t update if it was still “too sensitive to recount, whilst some are still too recent in the minds of the public.”
Short and sweet
This episode is a mind palace treasure trove, as we all know.
It’s full of mind palace within mind palace sequences:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Evidence that drugs are truly at play with what is happening (as began in S2):
Tumblr media
Possible coma bleed-through:
Tumblr media
You name it, TAB has got it all, in spades.
Modern scenes
This is where we get to the nitty gritty. Which modern scenes are real and which aren’t? Well, I’m sure it will come as no surprise to anyone, that I believe none of them to be real.
In the first modern scene, we have this bit from John:
“No, he can do this. I’ve seen it. The mind palace is like a whole world in his head.”
John’s seen it? When, exactly? This is a far cry from the way John described Sherlock’s mind palace in THoB. I know it’s possible that they had talked about it. There is time in the show when we don’t know what they are up to, or see what they are doing, but really?  Isn’t that our number 1 complaint about these two idiots? They won’t discuss anything of any significance with each other, but we are to believe they sat down one evening, in front of the fire, and Sherlock described it all to John? Pffft. I highly doubt it.
The only way this John knows what Sherlock’s mind palace is like is if this is Mind Palace John™. If that is the case, then this scene has to be fake. Which means the list is fake, and doesn’t exist in the last modern scene, either.
I mean, didn’t we all think it was so very strange that the Moriarty video pops up, everyone panics across the country. They rush the plane back to the tarmac for Sherlock to save England. The whole lot of them suspect Sherlock has just OD’d, but they find it perfectly okay to sit and chat on board instead of, I don’t know, getting him out of there and to hospital, or at least, rushing him out in order to start working on whatever Moriarty has planned next?
They. Just. Sit. On the plane. And talk at Sherlock. All of which could have been done in the car as they sped off to get to work.
I know I am beating a dead horse here with this, but, honestly. None of those plane scenes are real and no one will convince me that they were. Especially when they give us this moment in the last modern scene:
Tumblr media
When Mary picked up Sherlock’s phone, he’d been reading John’s blog. He hadn’t seen Moriarty’s video. No one told him it said ‘miss me?’. And, if the first modern scene was real, we are supposed to believe Sherlock doesn’t remember what just happened? Are they supposed to have been missing him because he’s just returned from his thwarted exile, or missing him since he lapsed into his drug-fueled mind palace again? I don’t believe the ‘miss me?’ here is coincidental.
EMP comes full-circle
If we are to believe Sherlock is awake, why this scene at the end? Breaking into our transmission of the show, just as Moriarty did at the end of HLV, we see Holmes and Watson transition to modern day.
WATSON: What sort of lunatic fantasy is that? HOLMES: It was simply my conjecture of what a future world might look like, and how you and I might fit inside it. HOLMES: From a drop of water, a logician should be able to infer the possibility of an Atlantic or a Niagara. WATSON: Or a Reichenbach.
Tumblr media
That they are discussing what Holmes imagines for the future and how they would fit in it shouldn’t be discounted, especially since we watch as Victorian Holmes and Watson step into the modern age.

How To Track Results (And Not Fall Into the Trap That Ruins 95% of Well-Thought Out Diets)
Tumblr media
Whether you're just getting started, or you're a longtime fitness pro, you'll never get the results you're dreaming of if you don't accurately and properly track your progress.
A lot of beginners get discouraged and quit because they're not seeing fast results, or because the scale isn't tipping in their favor.
Similarly, many seasoned gym rats get complacent and stop being as vigilant about tracking their progress because they think they've got their routine down to a science.
Both are doing it wrong.
You see, by consistently tracking your progress, you not only collect important data you can use to steadily make adjustments to your exercise and diet regimens, but you also keep yourself motivated to stay in it to win it.
Here are the best methods for tracking your progress over the long run (try one or more of these methods):
Use the scale wisely. Remember that a scale only gives you a rough estimate of your weight on a daily basis. Depending on your monthly cycle (yes, guys, you have one too) the amount of water your body retains will fluctuate dramatically. So if you're not taking regular readings and averaging them out over weeks and months at a time, you're giving yourself false hope or false terror every time you see a quick drop or spike in your weight. For more accurate results, use a variety of metrics to track your progress over time.
Use a measuring tape. The same as with a scale, this can fluctuate throughout the month.
But it's useful to take a measurement of some key areas of your body once a week and chart how they shrink as you progress. The main areas you should measure (and log in a journal) are your:
Waist
Hips
Thighs
Chest
Arms
Calves
Use calipers or a scientific method of body fat analysis. The main scientific options are bioelectrical impedance scales (somewhat inaccurate), DEXA/BodPod (pricey, but accurate), underwater testing (also pricey, but accurate) readings to measure body fat. As for calipers, make sure you do it yourself or have the same person doing it for you each time (I do it myself every 2 weeks), since variations in grips used for calipers can often cause very inaccurate readings. Bodyfat scales are also notorious for being inaccurate (often as much as 3-5% off), BUT if you use them consistently, you'll get a consistent return. So even if you can't tell what your exact body fat percentage is, you can tell how much of your body fat you've lost so far.
When calculating, bear in mind that an average body fat percentage for women is between 25% and 32%, and for men, it's between 18% and 24%.
Most people who are bodybuilding have lower fat levels than this - to see your abs through your skin, if you're a woman you'll need a body fat percentage just below the range of 11% and 14%, and for a man you'll need a body fat percentage below the range of 10% and 12%.
Just keep in mind that it's unhealthy to have too low of levels of body fat; at some point, having too little fat on your body can start to powerfully affect some of your body's natural processes.
This is especially dangerous for women of child-bearing age who may become pregnant - if you're going to grow a baby, you need ample fat on your body to be able to nourish that child and eventually produce breast milk for the little tyke.
Here's a quick chart that illustrates body fat percentage ranges for different body types:
Classification
Men                                                                 Women
Do not go lower than:
 4-5%                                                               10-11%
Athletic body
 6-12%                                                             13-19%
Generally fit body
13-17%                                                            20-24%
Average body
18-24%                                                            25-32%
Overweight body
 25%+                                                              33%+
And here's a chart that illustrates healthy/fit body fat percentage ranges based on age:
Age                               Men (Fit/Athletic)                      Women (Fit/Athletic)
18-30 y.o.                      10-18%                                       20-25%
31-50 y.o.                      16-24%                                       22-29%
Over 50 y.o.                  16-29% (Fit to Average)              20-36% (Fit to Average)
If you are over 50 y.o., read this: Men and women over 50 should consult with their doctors about their ideal body fat, because it varies widely depending on the individual and their health. For men, it is usually considered unhealthy (as opposed to not ideal) for men who are 50+ and have average builds to have a body fat percentage below 15% or above 30%. For women, it can sometimes be dangerous for women over 50 to have a body fat percentage of lower than 20% and higher than 36%.
Also, as you age, your muscles and bones naturally lose their density and size. At this time, a higher body fat percentage is not just acceptable, it's actually healthier.
Take a picture in the mirror. You can do this as often or as sparingly as you want, but it can be a great way to measure your progress - and makes for a great mash-up on YouTube or in a slideshow later on. As with any of these methods, if you're hoping to see a huge difference in a week or two, you may be disappointed (though not always!). But, you'll be amazed how different your body looks within a couple of months if you stick to your diet - and you'll be able to see your progress over time in a series of photos, which can be really inspirational!
You'll be able to get within 5% of your percentage, which is ideal for both progress checks and also to fill in the bonus "So Easy A Caveman Can Do It"Calculator so you have the most accurate calorie totals!
Write down your calories. You've got to write down everything -everything - that you eat, at least in the beginning. That means candy bars, beers, that half a slice of cake you had at the office birthday party for Irene on Friday, everything. If you're guessing in the beginning, you don't have an accurate picture, and you're not going to be able to analyze your habits to see where you need to make improvements.
Write down your exercises. You've got to track your strength-training as well as your cardio. A typical exercise journal will contain the exercises you did, how many sets and reps of each and the amount of weight you were throwing around. It should also have a section for each day of exercise - what kind did you do? How many calories did the machine say you burned (or did you calculate that you burned, if you worked out in the great outdoors?) Was it easy, moderate, intense? Keeping an exercise journal is more than an important tool for keeping yourself on the right track, it's also an exercise in honesty and accountability. Are you really squeezing out each of those last reps? Are you flipping back through pages and realizing that you're leaving the gym too early, too often? An exercise journal can tell you not just about how strong you're getting, but how committed you are, as well.
Use an Excel spreadsheet or Microsoft Word table design. As with personal finance, the most popular way to track your fitness progress is with an Excel spreadsheet or Word table. With just a basic knowledge of Excel, you can create graphs, charts and more that will give you a big-picture view of your efforts thus far. When creating a spreadsheet, make sure you have boxes designated for weight, measurements and body fat percentage. Don't lose heart if your numbers aren't moving as quickly as you want them to! You may go a week or two without seeing your weight change, for instance, because you're building muscle and burning fat at the same time - so it's important to know what your measurements and body fat percentage are.
Use a web site or app specifically designed to help you track your progress. There are many of these, running the gamut from highly detailed and useful (a few of them) to mostly bunk (most of them.) It's a shame that the cottage industry that has sprung up around weight-loss since the beginning of the obesity epidemic in the 1990s in America has attracted its fair share of snake-oil salesmen and hucksters. However, there are some very good sites out there that can be very helpful to you as you make your journey toward the body of your dreams. Here are the best websites to track your progress:
FitDay (this is my hands down favorite tracker)
The Daily Plate
Skinnyo
Bodybuilding.com
Use my secret on-the-go tracking "weapon", for times that it's hard/impossible to get online. If I can't access FitDay (or my personal journals at home), I always use one of the following and suggest you do the same:
"Notes" from the iPhone are usually sent automatically to your email address.
Evernote updates automatically and can be accessed from any computer.
The harsh truth is: You can diet and exercise all you want, but if you don't have good, consistent measurements, you'll either burn out or fail to capitalize on opportunities to improve your results over time.
So, follow the suggestions above and/or get right to it with the following steps.
Action Steps:
Hop on Google Images and search "body fat % for (your gender)"
If you have calipers or access to another method, use them to estimate your body fat %
