People can forgive and understand why Mary burned so many people but will call Anne the devil and all these horrible things because she was mean a couple of times. Gotta love the logic.

I think the idea is more that burning for heresy was the standard for the time, and that being cruel to your stepdaughter like...wasn't.

I actually find it funnier from a fandom/'fanon' perspective particularly when it comes to The Tudors. Natalie Dormer and Sarah Bolger were both actresses whose performances were really compelling, but as their characters are written there's actually more similarities than differences. You know I sometimes wish all Spaniards were drowned in the sea / if God wills it, hopefully she [Anne of Cleves] will drown at sea / careful, Cromwell, or I will see you cropped at the neck / if I could, I would strip him [Cromwell] from the King's side and burn him.

Granted, all of Anne's above scenes are taken from contemporary reports (although, from a decidedly hostile source), whereas Mary's above scenes are purely speculative fiction. Still, it's amusing that so many Marians watching the show adored Mary's characterization (I've spoken before about how despite how compelling SB's acting was to watch at turns, the writers' character work for Mary was actually remarkably inconsistent...I actually think an interpretation wherein Mary's 'affection and gratitude' towards her second stepmother was gradually revealed to have been affected and mainly strategic self-fashioning would have been compelling, especially considering that she passed an Act during her reign which held Jane and Edward as Henry's 'concubine' and 'bastard', just as much as Elizabeth & AB...but they did not take that route) and absolutely loathed, or loved-to-hate, AB. I'm sure it's to some extent an amalgam of their experience watching the show balanced with like biographies they've read and such, but still...funny af.

samira mohan the best patient advocate in that emergency department hands down. the way she takes care of joyce st. clair never ever fails to give me goosebumps. when she steps back and screams at everybody to stop and the whole department stands still and then she immediately gets down to business, confirming that joyce has sickle cell and ordering the appropriate treatment. and when whitaker seems doubtful of the validity of joyce’s condition samira educates him concisely and directly without being unkind, but still with the full intensity and seriousness that that conversation deserves. and while still being respectful towards addicts!!! and then there’s the case with the influencer suffering from mercury poisoning that samira refuses to ship off to psych because her patient is telling her something is off and she trusts her patient. and the fact that she’s actively researching racial disparity in the ER by painstakingly reviewing patient charts from the last 5 years!!!!! THAT’S dedication and passion!!!! people call her slow-mo and she’s made her peace with that bc she knows it’s for the right reasons, bc she refuses to cut corners or overlook things or ignore her gut. bc she cares deeply for every single one of her patients, no matter how they treat her (see: the morphine addicted dad visiting from new york for his daughter’s wedding). like she really is that girl!!!!! she really is!!!! samira mohan i LOVE YOU and you’re the BEST RESIDENT DOCTOR EVER and i would TRUST YOU with MY LIFE

So,I read silver's relaxation vigente and now I'm sad for the poor boy. If lilia broke up silver's curse why is it acting so strongly on him?

to be fair, the chronological placement of his birthday story just doesn't make any sense in general. like, it can only really take place during his second year, since Ace and Malleus are both there...yet we have seen pretty definitively what Silver was doing on the evening before/morning of his 18th birthday, and it was very much NOT his history homework. this myth?

jk jk I think it's just one of those card stories that's meant to be more...perpendicular to canon, if that makes sense? 😅 like a lot of them aren't really supposed to fit into a specific point in the timeline; instead all the characters and relationships tend to be somewhere vaguely post-episode 1 (occasionally with a bonus post-6 Ortho) except Yuu is already friends with everyone and nobody is surprised to hear them call Malleus Tsunotarou.

mostly they can get away with it, but it starts getting a bit weird with the cards that are supposed to be set at specific times. :T for those I think you gotta just kind of suspend your disbelief and take 'em as, like...little what-if AUs, or something like that! it's not exactly not canon, but more like. this is Silver's birthday if none of the narrative development happened and so his curse is still in effect, or something. 🤷 uhhhh basically Twst's timeline is an eldritch thing that cannot be perceived by mortal eyes, to try will lead to nothing but suffering, down this path dwells only madness.

that said I do 100% accept the presented canon that Silver's roommate is in eternal torment. this is the real victim of Twst right here.

The Watchmen adaptation famously changed Rorschach's death scene so that Nite-Owl actually witnesses it and is extremely distraught at the death of his friend, beating the living hell out of Ozymandias in a fit of rage and implicitly only going along with the rest of the cover up because he now has direct evidence that Jon might turn him into hamburger if he doesn't play ball. This is a contrast to the comic, where he and Laurie legitimately don't appear to notice that Rorschach was killed at all because they were too busy having sex, and at no point do they appear to inquire into his absence.

This strongly reads like somebody in the writers room feeling like they were fixing something about the original comic- Dan's deeply unsatisfying lack of curiosity about Rorschach's disappearance, the real possibility that he slept through Walter getting exploded. The thing is, though, I think there are a lot of ways in which the comical degree of self-absorption necessary for that to happen is kind of the book's capstone on the question of who exactly Dan Dreiberg is as a person. I was crying from pain at the emergency room and the nurses were bitching about me not dying so they couldn’t help right away even if I kept passing out and had been there for a long time, this sweet old Russian lady who was also admitted since earlier stood up and walked next to me and kept comforting me and asking how I was holding up, she kept checking in on me and being so sweet and going around asking if everyone was doing ok or just distracting family members of patients with nice conversations. She called out the doctors and nurses for not caring, she sat next to me and kept making sure I was ok and then gave me her phone number when she got discharged so I’d follow up with her. Honestly my day coulda been hell today but this one lady made it so bearable it’s not going to be remembered as a bad horrible traumatizing time, I got to meet an actual angel and I’m so happy about it.
