I just got into the fandom and I love it so much. However, there are parts where I just cringe. I’m going to be completely honest when I say I can’t see SS being a thing, a healthy one at that. A rumor said that Sasuke always had feelings for Sakura but he didn’t know how to show them because hatred blinded him. I just... find it utterly bullshit. Hell, even I do ship narusasu, I tried to be open minded and not fall too far off canon or the characters. I don’t understand how Sasuke had those feelings for her when all he did was shown the opposite and it felt genuine. He seem always annoyed and pushes her away. She kept forcing her feelings on him when he makes it clear that he’s not interested. I don’t hate the ship because it’s not my ship but because it’s extremely toxic. It feels one-sided (Sakura’s side) more than anything and it’s makes it hard to believe he had those feelings for her. I mean, on the second episode of season five, she confessed and poured out her heart and he blew it off. I cringed hard and was beyond disappointed because she’s making it about herself. That’s literally how I feel about their damn “relationship”. She made it about her and her only. When he’s hurting, it’s about her. It’s so annoying and it makes me see how self-centered Sakura. When she said she understood Sasuke, I wanted to scream (I nearly did but my family is sleeping and I don’t need a lecture.) She doesn’t know Jackshit about Sasuke besides he’s the only survivor of his decease clan, he’s a loner who cares only about himself, and he’s attractive. She’s just like every other fangirl expect she’s on his team. I’m trying my best not to hate her but Damn she’s really pushing it. Anything that annoyed me was that she made it seem like they were dating, again making it about herself and her feelings. She sent Naruto to get Sasuke for her benefits, so she can keep him. Again, disregarding Sasuke’s feelings and what he wanted. Naruto should’ve said “I’ll bring him back because HE wants too, to keep HIM safe, not for you.” I just can’t with this ship. I’m still wondering why the hell is it even a thing? Also find it beyond pitiful how she stayed with Sasuke in Boruto when he left for 12-13 years?! No note. No checking up. Nothing. Hell, Sarada doesn’t know how her own father looks like or the truth of her mother. Both of them were miserable and I find it absolutely ridiculous when SS shippers still say “they’re in love” or they’re OTP. If that’s what true love looks like (good thing it’s not), then I’d die single. I can’t be the only one who thinks this ship is just as bad as Harley Quinn x Joker.

Me being an SNS shipper, I am just going to write this from a non-SNS perspective. Meaning, I am going to consider Naruto and Sasuke are just friends or rivals.

Bear with my lengthy answer.

Where do I even begin?

A rumor said that Sasuke always had feelings for Sakura but he didn’t know how to show them because hatred blinded him.

I think this rumor is from a light novel called Akatsuki Hiden or whatever shit. But for me, it looks like a pathetic attempt to convince those horny women shippers who would pay any money to read a romance which mirrors their own love life where they desire an ‘unreachable & handsome’ man who has this ‘cool & overbearing’ aura and carries this ‘bad boy badass’ vibe. They would do anything to get the attention from this boy. Until this point is where the reality ends.

What they really wants to happen and fantasize is somehow that handsome man, one day, will look only them and recognize their love and becomes a ‘soft’ guy who would bring the heavens for them and treats her like a princess. That fantasy led them to buy these novels and believe everything while completely disregarding the canon material. And those novels are aimed at these type of women.

You must have been wondering now, ‘I have seen these type of shit somewhere’!!!!!

That’s right.

50 Shades of Grey, Twilight, Beauty and the Beast, 100′s of K-Drama, C-Drama follow this shit romance trope and it’s regrettably fucking popular.

In other words, Don’t believe anything apart from the canonic resources.

Let’s dissect the canon materials about SS.

TEAM 7

This is how it all started

Does anyone see anything positive here????

Well, I am not.

Sakura wanted to impress Sasuke. Since, Naruto always picks fight with Sasuke, she badmouthed Naruto in the hopes that Sasuke will recognize some common ground with her which may develop into a friendship. But she shot her own foot.

[Regardless, I hated her here and she never redeemed herself, for her being completely insensitive & oblivious towards Sasuke’s life, the boy she loves]

Technically, Sasuke should have said ‘You’re Annoying’ towards Naruto for kissing him before the class and tying him up later. Here, Sakura is simply badmouthing another guy. He, somehow, find this very annoying than anything Naruto did earlier.

Sasuke always had feelings for Sakura but he didn’t know how to show them because hatred blinded him.

Am definitely not seeing any feelings here.

ZABUZA ARC

Alright, much later, somehow Sasuke started to integrate into team 7 and started to see them as a Family. No denial here. He started to care about everyone in his team at some point. Which was evident from the way he thought to himself, ‘That was Sakura’s voice... What is Kakashi doing?’

But does it means he hopelessly fell in love with her??? Nope.

It’s just a team camaraderie where he was worried about his teammate. If he has special feelings towards her, he should have said ‘I must go save Sakura’ or something along the line.

But, later in that episode, he went on to die for Naruto and even at his dying moments he didn’t think about Sakura or Team 7. It was all about someone else.

Even seconds before falling into Naruto’s arms, Sasuke was smiling with no regrets.

It was funny very later that after he got up from his temporary death, rather than consoling her like ‘Sakura, Don’t cry. Am alright’ or anything, he was asking ‘Where’s Naruto?’. LOL.

Even much later, when Sakura was asking him about a date, he bluntly said ‘I refuse’.

So, you’re telling me, throughout this arc, a boy blinded with hatred can able to pout, play childish games, train and die for a boy but when it comes to Sakura he can’t show his feelings???

Sorry, I don’t see romance here. Not in this arc.

Whether you agree or not, every parent has their favorite child, every child has their favorite parent. Even within your family, you always have a special person.

For Sasuke, Itachi was that person in his real family. Sakura was not that person in his Team 7 family. It was Naruto.

CHUNIN EXAMS ARC

This arc is where those SS shippers celebrates a lot and I know why. Remember earlier I talked about that shitty 50 Shades of Grey romantic trope??? The following scene vaguely falls under that pattern.

A guy loses his control because of a cursed seal and beats up the guys who hurt one of his teammates which happens to be a girl and calms down after seeing the girl.

That Infamous back hug.

I understand why SS people lose their mind with that scene. And I don’t blame them. I am going to throw their own proof at them.

So, this First databook, tells us that he finally sees both Naruto and Sakura as comrades and his heart softens from the path of revenge, a little bit.

Definitely, Sakura’s tears or love towards him stopped his rampage. But nothing says about whether Sasuke loves her back.

Much later, Sasuke also stops his cursed seal on his own after thinking about worried Sakura and a screaming Naruto (Who don’t know about this seal thingy at that time).

Well, whatever. That databook has another funny fact, that too in the same page.

LOL. Weird!!!! This accidental kiss unravels Sasuke’s heart ❤️❤️???? 🤣🤣🤣

So, influencing Sasuke’s heart can be attributed to both his teammates,according to this databook. Atleast upto this arc. There are no special feelings for Sakura alone, guys.

Proof?

If Sasuke really considers her in a romantic light (this is after that back hug), he doesn’t have to do this at all. Believe me, Love is all about subconsciously or purposefully enjoying or feeling little touches. Those touches can be through eyes, memories or physical. Sakura is delighted with his touch because she loves him but Sasuke just see her as a comrade and keeping his distance but this time very politely.

If Kishi really likes these couple, he doesn’t have to make this scene at all. It’s not just this one instance, he rejected her twice very bluntly before this saying ‘Don’t cling to me!!!’, ‘Sakura, you’re heavy!!!’.

If you say her back hug is a token of romance, then I can say ‘this’ kiss is also a token of romance. You can’t ignore one while keeping the other.

Anyways, at the end of the arc, Orochimaru is the best judge to identify who can change Sasuke’s heart. And that person is not Sakura.

DEPARTURE

But, atleast, I thought she was genuine in the first part of the proposal, like saying ‘Revenge is not good’.....bla bla.. Because, Revenge will never satisfy a person completely and I agree. Then she took a 180 degree by saying ‘Take me with you, Sasuke-Kun. I’ll make you happy’. This is where I lost it entirely. ‘Alright Bitch, So you really don’t care about his revenge or health. As long as you have the chance to get inside his pants, you are okay with it. So you are okay with Sasuke going to Orochimaru as long as you are with him..... Fucking Shit!!!!’ This is not okay at all.

How did Sasuke respond?

“Why should I have to tell you anything”

“I’m telling you to keep your nose out of my business”

“Stop bothering me over everything I do”

Ummm..... where I come from, this screams ‘Irritation’ to me. Added to it, throughout the whole conversation he never saw her face. There was evidently no pain or anything from his face. On top the cake, here comes the cherry

“You really are...annoying”

This is where he saw her face throughout that painful confession before knocking her out. Umm... When you love someone or atleast feel for someone, you will look in their eyes and speak some farewell words before you leave. Or atleast show some pain??? There’s visibly nothing from Sasuke’s face.

Alright, I know what SS wankers will pull out here. That Databook 2 with some vague words. I am going to throw this at them.

Again, like I acknowledged before, he considers her as a comrade and part of a family. So, her existence also eased his loneliness. But you have to look at the word choice here. “The one that filled his lonely existence was Sakura”. It’s not the ‘Only’ person. Before he left he said ‘Thanks’. Meaning, Thanks for all these days. That’s all between us.

This piece was about the Team 7 picture. So he acknowledges, he was not alone during his genin days because of his companions and Kakashi (so it’s not just Sakura to ease his loneliness). Whatever he said to Sakura was real.

So can we safely confirm “You’re annoying” is real????

But what’s really interesting is the way Sasuke projects himself before Naruto. I am going to refrain myself from attaching all those rollercoaster of emotions flowed throughout the fight in VoTE 1. Otherwise, it will become an SNS post.

However, this particular scene caught my attention.

Ummm.... Initially Sasuke walks without looking at Naruto. Then he looks back and answers him.

Naruto was pretty much asking the same question as Sakura. “Why does it come to this?”

But Sasuke pauses and surprised for a moment and asks him pretty much “Why do you care about me?”

Why couldn’t Sasuke do the same with Sakura???? Kishi can pretty much make a panel or two rather than making some insulting panels.

Anyways, If they throw the databook, then I can also throw the same.

Alright, can someone explain the highlighted sentence for me???? Because I want to confirm whether I have a blurry vision.

Here, Sasuke is trying to punctuate Naruto as a different person from the rest of his companions. ‘his companions as well as that with Naruto’, I mean, Come on!!!! Naruto is also one of your companions along with Sakura. Why differentiate????

‘The village, companions, Naruto,....’ . Again....He is differentiating his home (village), companions (his friends), and Naruto. So who is Naruto for him? What is the need to make exception for Naruto? It’s very clear he is placing Naruto at a high pedestal for some unknown reasons.

Before this Databook dissection, remember I said something about saying Goodbye, ‘ When you love someone or at least feel for someone, you will look into that person’s eyes and speak some farewell words before you leave‘

Sasuke is doing exactly that here in this scene without saying anything.

Am sorry SS shippers, you can scream all you want about Sasuke knocked her out and left her on the bench. But there was no emotional distraught when he left her. Sasuke seemingly spent a longer time staring at Naruto than looking at Sakura when she confessed.

OROCHIMARU HIDEOUT

Well, there is nothing I can say about here for SS. He pretty much saw her and said, “Sakura, huh?”.. And that’s all. He didn’t give two shits about her.

His attention was completely on someone else.

UNDER THE BRIDGE

She sent Naruto to get Sasuke for her benefits, so she can keep him. Again, disregarding Sasuke’s feelings and what he wanted. Naruto should’ve said “I’ll bring him back because HE wants too, to keep HIM safe, not for you.”

Naruto pretty much said the same thing in this arc, Larry. Naruto, in part 1, was happy for Sakura feeling the same about Sasuke as him, that is ‘To bring him back’. And also sad that his crush really loves someone else. But after Sakura gave up on Sasuke and faking her confession, Naruto decided, ‘Alright, I want to save him personally. I don’t care about our promise anymore”.

This is where, SS ship goes into a crazy ride and it’s not a positive one.

Sasuke was on a rampage. He lost the ability to differentiate between his friends and foes. He stabbed Karin. And when he find her alive, he was about to Chidori her.

And then comes the pink princess, full of lies and deceit. And Sasuke being impatient and disgusted with her lies, he does this

Well, in part 1, she had a degree of power to change his heart. But not here. He, instead, got riled up more and even tried to kill her without a warning and that too by not looking at her face. Pathetic!!!!

This scene screams ‘Trust issues’ from both sides.

Did it stop here???

Fucking Shit!!!!!! Is there any people who still ship this nonsense?. If you are a Sakura fan, you should hate her for the lack of trust and backstabbing the person she loves,

If you are a Sasuke fan, errrrmmm.....I have nothing to say. You know what to do.

There is nothing positive here, that can make me ship them. He is killing her like a Mosquito.

If you truly loved someone in the past, even in your darkest moments, you will be honest and you cannot fake before that person.

Proof??

Here, Sasuke had a clear resolve to kill his brother, Itachi. He lived for this moment for about 8 years and immersed himself in Darkness for 3 years with Orochimaru. He could have run away, dodge or look away from Itachi. But Sasuke simply couldn’t!!! You know why?? Sasuke loved Itachi once more than anything in this world. At this moment, he is letting all those defense loose and embracing the moment and see what Itachi was about to do. Because somewhere in his heart he trusts Itachi.

But killing Sakura doesn’t make Sasuke feel anything. She is just another victim like Danzo or Karin or all those Samurais or a fucking mosquito!!!!

So you are telling me that Sasuke had feelings for her but kept it hidden all along and still tried to kill her like a pest???

Give me a fucking break!!!!

And you all know, who changed Sasuke’s heart here in this scene. It was not Sakura. There’s absolutely no reason for Sasuke to listen to that person and what’s more, Sasuke even made a promise (despite being in darkness, he had it in his heart to listen to that person) to destroy Konoha only after killing that person ..

WAR ARC

Well, this is the arc where Sakura behaves like a rabid dog on heat waiting for Sasuke and shamelessly trying to wag her tails. But Sasuke didn’t give two shits about her, not once or twice but multiple times.

MOMENT 1

An explosion was about to kill the whole shinobi alliance and this dude wants to save Jugo, his companion and Naruto, the person who will challenge his Revolution, his rival and the one whom he wants to kill. Why only Naruto??? Why not Naruto and Sakura???

Pink cherry Queen doesn’t even crossed Sasuke’s mind. Because he already threw her away in part 1.

MOMENT 2

Alright Bitch!!! The entire shinobi alliance was dying on the other side of the battlefield. And this asshole is doing a clownshow before Madara just to get inside Sasuke’s pants????

I mean, Come On!!!!

Well, if Sasuke truly likes her, he should be the one to have catched her or atleast should have asked her, ‘are you alright??’

I am sorry, where are the romantic feelings???

MOMENT 3

ROFLLLL🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

For the first time, Kishimoto is trolling those Sakutards through Sasuke’s words, what we, readers were right about all along. He is calling her useless here. And still these fake feminazis trying to ship her with him???

Don’t you guys have any self respect??? If so, this should be the moment to jump out of this trash ship.

MOMENT 4

Geez!!! You are still on this ship?????

He clearly doesn’t want to save her at all. The hawk can clearly lift 3 people. Sasuke is not even making an effort here.

And you are still yapping that he is blinded by darkness???

MOMENT 5

This is the moment SS calls it as ‘eyesmex’... While in reality, he was just looking at her and silently thanking her for helping him out. Do you know what is a real ‘eyesmex’??? I will attach it at the end.

If you guys pull this as true love, then he should have stayed in the same love till the end. But Sasuke has other ideas.

This is the one of the funniest thing in this arc. LOLLLLL

Instead of being relieved that Sakura was saved, Sasuke was wondering about Kakashi’s Susanoo.....and Sharingan.

Do people still think he cares about her????

MOMENT 6

Am cackling here, while dissecting the sorry state of this ship guys 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣!!!! If something good happens to me because of SS , it’s just the way you guys are making me laugh by making a clown out of yourself!!!!

Do you guys know something? There was a man named Itachi. Before massacring his clan, the very first person he killed was his ‘supposed’ Girlfriend, named Izumi. I wouldn’t say Itachi loved her like a lover boy. It was just one sided on her part. He just talks to her when he finds a spare time and considers her a good friend.

Do you know how he killed her?

By putting her in a ‘Tsukuyomi’. And what kind of Tsukuyomi, you ask?

Can you see how he fulfilled her dreams gracefully before he was going to kill her???

Why didn’t Sasuke do this???? Why particularly select a murdering genjutsu????

MOMENT 7

He said it, finally.

He don’t love her at all. There was no hidden feelings. He admitted from his own mouth.

One day later, after the final VoTE battle ends.... After exchanging some intense feelings and even crying tears of happiness with Naruto....

Sasuke tells Sakura, ‘Sorry’....

Ummm.... That’s all???

All those negative shits happened before cannot be solved by just simply saying ‘Sorry’ and ‘Thank you’. If someone has an ounce of self-respect, they should know this is not OKAY at all...🙅🏻‍♀️🙅🏻‍♀️🙅🏻‍♀️🙅🏻‍♀️

Am Sorry, but Sasuke was just being politely blunt, kind of insincere towards Sakura and turned his attention somewhere else in a matter of minutes. He was not even bothered by Sakura’s tears here. Instead staring at someone on his left. Remember I talked about touching the person physically and visually?

Sasuke is subconsciously or purposefully touching someone on his left through his eyes. Definitely it’s not Sakura. You know who it is. Remember SStards’ infamous ‘eyesmex’... I seriously believe this is a perfect example of ‘eyesmex’.

All these intense looks and feeling pain still doesn’t serve Sakura, even after pulled out of darkness. If there is a moment, where SS wants to shine, then this is where it should be. He should have told her, how he missed her all along, how he felt about hurting her, should have wiped her tears and some corny shit. But instead, Sasuke went for a long ass monologue for his friend and talking about sharing his pain.

What about your kween’s pain????

You don’t have to ship SNS. But you should know where Sasuke’s priorities are.

It’s not Sakura.

Sasuke said ‘Sorry’ to Karin too. ‘Thank you’ to Kakashi as well.

And what’s even more pathetic is, still Sakura wants to get inside Sasuke’s pants by accompanying him. Bitch, you can help your village, console your best friend Ino who lost her father, try to surpass Tsunade, improve your skills or whatever... Why bother him???

So, if you really think ‘Thank you’ as a token of love, then I can’t help it but term Sakura as a rabid dog who waits for her master to come home and throw some bones whenever he finds time. Your standards for a romantic love is piss poor and you will suffer just like Sakura in Boruto with just emptiness. All Sasuke did was poke her forehead just like Itachi which symbolizes keeping someone at a distance. He also said the same words to her just like Itachi said to him many times ‘Mata kondo da’ meaning ‘Maybe next time’. And we all knew that next time never came for Sasuke.

Now all we see is a Sasuke as an absentee father in Boruto for which I don’t blame him. He was never a marriage material in the first place. Sakura and the Manga Editors forced him and she is paying for it.

All I want to say to SS shippers is, Your Ship Has Sailed Already. You cannot expect Sasuke to go lovey dovey towards Sakura with a 12 year old daughter around and for fuck’s sake, this is not a romance manga, it’s a battle manga. So stop dreaming about this kind of non-existential romance and pull yourself altogether.

Okay okay i just read your tags on that sasuke and hinata post and you said you think they'd be compatible and i think that's a v new take cause mostly people just believe that sasuke barely knows hinata exists? and that's kinda what i thought too tbh i mean ig hinata CAN be good for sasuke but will sasuke be good for hinata? I'm v curious so i wanna know your thoughts 👀

I guess it is a new take though I’ve definitely spoken to others who kinda agree with me about this over the years, but you’re right, it is basically a crack ship cuz yeah, they have never interacted ever. And i don’t even like Hinata and I’m always flip-flopping on Sasuke. In short i don’t hate him at all and I think he’s a super interesting and complex character, but I’m happy to dunk on him for the memes lol cuz god does he have his moments but I wouldn’t say he’s a character I love, but please, he is such a traumatised person, traumatised as a very young child to boot, and this is really glossed over by a lot of people.

But please be patient with me whilst I attempt to sort this out because I don’t often verbalise my thoughts about Naruto when it’s not about Kakashi so apologies if this is not very coherent... I also wanna point out that i am not a shipper and I approach ship dynamics on how well they work/how much it makes sense in the context of the show which is why i hardly ship anything. Also I wanna point out that I’m not necessarily thinking about the Sasuke through most of Shippuden as i write this, i’m sort of taking that aside and thinking about his potential and who he was at the beginning, and who he becomes at the end.

Will put it under a read more cuz wow! I don’t make sense but I sure don’t know how to shut up either!

Okay, so the thing about Sasuke that isn’t really touched upon by the fandom is exactly how driven by his emotions he is. He is such an intensely emotional person, despite being a relatively introverted and quiet person, and he’s obviously manipulated by it at various points throughout the series - he’s really not controlled or stoic, like, at all.

Comparatively, though Hinata is shy and introverted, she’s actually pretty good at keeping her emotions in check. Yes she gets nervous. She doesn’t wallow in her emotions or let them dictate her behaviour, and it’s actually her that brings Naruto back down to Earth when he’s freaking out that one time during the war arc. So they balance each other out in that sense.

I like their imagined dynamic for a few surface level reasons. In an AU where the massacre didn’t happen, or even before it happened, Sasuke and Hinata have a lot in common. They both come from these prestigious closed off clans, they both feel like they’re not measuring up, they have these overbearing and closed-off fathers. If they got to know each other they just would have related to each other very well I feel. Also, Hinata’s supposed to be quite empathetic and like... Sasuke definitely needs this. There’s a real lack from anyone in this series, Naruto included, that is actually trying to see where Sasuke is coming from that isn’t a) trying to use that to get him to do what they want b) trying to control him because they think they know what’s best for him, even if they’re acting for his sake.

I don’t see Hinata being that way with him? You could argue Sasuke needs someone more outwardly ‘tougher’ and no nonsense but I definitely think Hinata is extremely determined in her quiet way, especially when she cares about someone, but for some reason I think she’s one of the characters that I can see genuinely empathising with him and learning to see who he actually is. I don’t think she’d be passive, but she’s definitely the quiet understanding type and it’s hard because we don’t see her care about anyone other than Naruto, I do thjnk she’d be capable of calling him out when he needs it. I guess i think that in part is because she’s one of the few girls that doesn’t just thirst after him from the beginning.

But to answer the second part, would Sasuke be good for Hinata... Honestly, I can see it? For starters, not only does Hinata have issues with anxiety, but so does Sasuke. You sort of see that in the beginning with Sasuke. He’s the one that’s freaking out when they first meet Zabuza to the point that he wants to kill himself to end his anxiety and Kakashi has to snap him out of it. He’s the one that freaks out in the forest of death during the chunin exams and just wants to hand the scroll over and end it all. He’s not really like this in the same way in shippuden, but my god if Hinata couldn’t relate to this. Also, I wanna remind everyone how he is with Juugo. He’s the one that calms him down, the one that Juugo feels safe around. I know he’s doing it with a purpose in mind, but I think he’d have patience and empathy for Hinata’s fears the way he would for him. Obviously this would take place years later once Sasuke’s resolved some of his issues. I guess more than anything i see them having chemistry, and a quite, peaceful relationship that has the potential to be healthier than SasuSaku, and even, SasuNaru. (SasuNaru works only because Naruto is SO damn resilient, and because of how deep their bond is and how much they canonically complete each other, not because it’s healthy, or at least it wouldn’t be at first)

It’s genuinely harder to talk about why Sasuke would be good for Hinata because there really isn’t that much to her character, but I basically think Hinata would do well with someone that understands her as well, and Sasuke I think is pretty damn capable of that. I think the fact that they show no interest in each other whatsoever means that they both would have to develop as people in their own right, which Hinata definitely needs, Sasuke’s aloofness would probably do her good, and idk, I just think it has the capability of blossoming into something strong. Largely because for it to work they would have to become their own people, and then they would realise just how much they have in common and I just think their personalities complement each other. Sakura’s tough with everyone else but far too passive on him, but she really can’t understand him at all, nor he her, and i just think SasuHina have more potential in that way.

but then i started watching it and the entire time i just wanted to shake nart and scream "he doesn't care about you!!! he doesn't care about anyone!!! stop chasing after this dude and start focusing on your real friends in konoha!!" but the show never let nart move on. he kept chasing after this dude. putting konoha in danger, putting his friends in danger. it got to the point where sasuke would open his mouth and id skip the scene. just like this genuine hatred for sasuke (younger me was so dramatic) and then as i got older and started to think more critically about the show (can u believe i hated sakura? true feminism is growing up and realizing that sakura was just shittily written) i just got more and more indifferent about sasuke. he's just not likable. there's no bond between him and naruto. nothing to even signify a ship between them. I'm coming in searing hot with this, but I think the reason a lot of people, especially on the first watch, loathe Sasuke is because his character is inconsistent but played off like he's consistent. One minute he wants no bonds. The next his bonds do matter. Then he doesn't want any. Then he just wants Naruto. All of this is of course how a healthy person behaves :)

Honestly, it's just kind of crushing to watch Naruto tear himself up over somebody who can't appreciate his friendship. I don't mean that as an insult to Sasuke- he and Itachi have the most extensive trauma in the whole show. But I'm not interested in a relationship that's unhealthy and stays unhealthy. Which is what a relationship between someone who's desperate to make friends and someone who's terrified of making friends would be, you know?

Yeah, imo they needed at least one more arc to establish a lasting connection before Sasuke defected. Their relationship as it is in canon just doesn't have the meat to justify what Naruto does, much less why the people around him do nothing to curb his behavior

Feminism is realizing that all the girls and all the women in Naruto deserved better 😌

Not sure exactly when I started shipping them, though I’m sure it was the first time I read something for them. More than likely I stumbled upon a random fic after falling down the MadaTobi rabbit hole, and decided that Yes, this ship Works. Have shipped them ever since.

They’re amazing. Sassy and quick-witted and just amazing.

I love how they started out so against each other. Izuna didn’t even give a second thought to ever seeing Tobirama as anything more than his enemy, and Tobirama was fully prepared to kill him to protect all those he loved. I also love the idea of them overcoming this and falling in love, and being able to be vulnerable around each other.

Anything to do with Izuna dying. I dislike Edo Tensei versions of this ship with a burning passion tbh, the only exception being purposeful horror stories that show how “wrong” that dynamic is as far as being in a healthy relationship is involved. No Edo Tensei Izuna. No crazed scientist Tobirama bringing him back. No thank you.

HAPPY ENDINGS. I look for happy endings in fics for them. Also I try to look for healthy relationships for them a little more than other ships, just because of where the TobiIzu fandom takes the unhealthy relationships somewhere I don’t like. Also I don’t care one way or the other whether Madara ends up with Hashirama in TobiIzu fics.

Madara, Hashirama, Itachi, some OCs. I’m not too picky. As long as Izuna stays away from Touka. No thank you.

Them both living and loving each other. Maybe fighting side-by-side in battle. Growing old and retiring, and Izuna bothering Tobi for the rest of their lives. Tobi secretly doesn’t mind the constant teasing tho.

They cuddle however they want to, though I think Izuna has a Thing for laying on top of Tobi. Whether on his back or chest.

Arguing. Though most of the time it’s not really serious. They just like to bicker.

That he would not have left Sasuke in Naruto’s hands in canon. Not sure if this is an unpopular opinion? I just...don’t see Itachi doing that. He was too much of a control freak, too obsessed with Sasuke, and would not have left it up to Naruto, someone he barely knew, to take care of Sasuke. Also I just don’t think Itachi would have accepted that he’d done wrong and couldn’t fix it himself. He’s a control freak that thinks it’s up to him to fix everything and carry all the weight of the world on his own shoulders, by himself.

In that case (again, no offense to anyone - and removing the ‘I wish I could get behind’ part ‘cause I do not), NaruSasu. I just...don’t get it? At all? Maybe it’s the ‘what could have been’s or whatever, but when you just take the series at face value, that relationship is...really icky, at least to me, and that’s putting it lightly. It’s so damn unhealthy, especially for poor Naruto. They were never even friends, Sasuke always treated him like shit, and yet...?! *throws hands at half+ of OG series and virtually all of Shippuden* IDK, man. Something’s weird there, and I don’t like it. Can’t support that. Naruto deserves better, damn it. (*casually links her Naruto AU fic where he DOES get better (in more ways than one), TYVM*)

20. Any ships (in your current fandom) which you surprised yourself by liking?

Going with Naruto again, so. Hmm... I guess maybe Kankuro/Tenten? I didn’t even know that was a ship until a friend showed me a really good fic, and I was hooked! lol.

Another might be KakaObi, but only in AUs where Obito survives the cave in and gets out with Kakashi and Rin and recovers, continuing to be the sweetheart he is instead of the ass he turned out to be in canon. Because he, too, deserved better, damn it!

Another is one I might have made up, not sure (mostly in the context of my Naruto AU, NGL), lol: Karin/Shikamaru! It makes sense and there are lots of compelling reasons when you break it down! You know, 'cause Shikamaru would need (or probs at least prefer) someone on his smarts level, and she's a genius, too, just in a different way. And once she mellows out, Karin's really cool, and (in my AU) she grows to eventually adore Naruto (actually fights to defend/protect him in the Pein arc!), and anyone who loves Naruto is good in Shikamaru's book! lol. Plus, she can tell him when he has his genius brain twisted in too many directions, tell him he's being an idiot and help him figure things out in her different way. lol. IDK, I like it!

30. What inspires you to write?

I just...love writing?? I’ve wanted to be an author since I was 8-9 years old, started writing when I was 11, and I’ve been writing ever since! I’m 27 now! I’ve had a few dry spells, ofc, but I always end up coming back! I just feel like writing is in my blood (partly because, I like to joke, my last name is the title of one of Shakespeare’s plays, haha)!

Pretty much anything can inspire me to write, though. I’ll see a pretty flower and be like “OOH, that flower could feature perfectly in this chapter in this way!” and then write 1k about that! lol. Or I could read a review of one of my new chapters and end up thinking of something I’d never considered before and then write almost 3k on that alone (looking at you, middle section of Ch 6 of my Naruto AU, lol)!

Basically, if it sparks joy, I’m gonna write something! X’D

31. What’s the nicest thing someone has ever said about your writing?

Nicest?? Hmm... I mean, I’ve had a lot of things said about my writing... Not sure I can really narrow it down? lol.

I guess the nicest things I’ve ever been told are when I make people cry (espec multiple times!) and actually feel the emotions the characters are feeling, that the characters and their development feel so real that it’s like they’re real people instead of fictional/they’re written so much better than the creator himself wrote them. (Been getting those a lot on my Naruto AU, actually. lol.)

32. Do you listen to music when you write or does music inspire you? If so, which band or genre of music does it for you?

I tend to prefer silence while I write, but sometimes, my house is loud and people keep breaking my concentration (house of 5, lots of animals, not the quietest, lol), I sometimes listen to music. I usually prefer instrumental, and then usually Naruto or Wolf’s Rain (sometimes Princess Tutu, too) instrumental tracks. The Naruto one I like best also has rain sounds mixed in, which is great because I love the sound of rain! Woo! (Here’s a link to that one if anyone else wants in on this! ;))

39. What is your greatest strength as a writer?

Emotions and getting into the nitty-gritty stuff therein. As an extremely visual, emotional writer, I’ve always been able to feel the emotions of the characters pretty much exactly how they’re feeling it in the moment and then put it on paper. I also make people cry a lot with my writing and get them to feel what the characters do, so that’s awesome! It’s always my goal to get my readers to feel things because then I feel like they’ve really connected with the story and characters I’ve written!

40. What do you struggle the most with in your writing?

Transitions are dicks. Sometimes I struggle ‘cause it’s been, like, two seconds or five hours, and I don’t know how to show that, lol. If I can, espec with the last one, I just fade to black. lol.

Also, sometimes I feel like I use the same sentence structure a lot, mostly the ‘..., but...’ format (at least lately). It’s really annoying, and I worry my readers notice and get annoyed/think I suck because of it. lol.

I don’t really read Naruto fanfic too much anymore, so like...I guess, technically, another main fandom of mine right now is Fruits Basket, so: without a doubt, @kyosohmastan ! They’re my absolute favorite Fruits Basket fanfic author! Everyone’s so in character, the writing is so sweet and feelsy, steamy when it needs to be, and I really love the writing itself - it’s just so well done and beautiful and I die happily when they post a new fic or chapter? Ahhh! Plus, they’re just so nice and talented in so many ways, we have the same opinions on certain things (like Kakeru Manabe is Too Much(TM) for us, haha, no offense to those who like him! lol.), and I just really, really feel blessed to know and read their fics! Love them so! <3

44. What ship do you feel needs more attention?

I’m not sure which ship this is talking about? Hmm... But a ship I definitely think (have always thought) needs more attention is Kirito/Lisbeth from Sword Art Online! It’s so slept on, and that is a damn fucking shame because they’re so healthy and sweet and have so much more amazing potential than they’re given credit for (way freaking more than the actual canon couple, just sayin’, no offense to anyone who likes the pairing)! I have written a good few metas (and a fanfic) on the subject (some/most of which are on my Lisbeth RP blog, actually, lol)! If anyone wants to discuss/RP/anything involving this ship, please let me know! Would love it!

45. What is your all time favourite fanfic?

I’m not sure I have a favorite fic. But one that I always come back to (all of her (mostly G1) My Little Pony fics, actually - first found them when I was, like, 12, and have kept rereading over and over through the years, haha) is A Mother in Her Eyes by LoveLikeElena on FFN. It takes place in the author’s own MLP universe, but I love said universe so much, and her takes on the characters are amazing and so sweet! I love her look at the serious subjects that follow the characters through her ongong MLP series! <3

51. Rant or Gush about one thing you love or hate in the world of fanfiction! Go!

Fanfic readers have become really, really lazy. No one reviews anymore, maybe leave a kudos here and there if you’re lucky (I have a major love-hate (more hate) relationship with kudos...), and it’s so, so, so discouraging to us writers! I wish they knew how it felt, to be honest, espec the ones you know are reading, but just...don’t comment. It’s ridiculously disheartening to work so hard on something for days, weeks, even months or years on something, only to get basically nothing in return. It’s like posting into the void, and it sucks ass. It’s part of what made me quit writing for a good few years, actually, and I’m so sad to see that it’s still a thing. I comment on everything I read because I know how it feels and how much it hurt! It hurts like hell, especially because I remember how it used to be just 6-8 years ago when everyone commented! I desperately pray the fanfic/content consuming world fixes that really soon or we might lose some really amazing writers! Please, even an emoji or keyboard smash! I don’t care, I’ll take anything (and I know I’m not the only one)! <3

Sumary: Canon divergence! Gennin fic! Sakura shares the joys of her mom’s pregnancy with her team, Sasuke unconsciously invests himself too much.

For the Sasusaku day 12: Gravitation

Sakura is prone to giving them surprises.

She’s not a mysterious girl with a dark past and the death of her loved ones behind her like Sasuke and Kakashi, and she’s definitely not, Lady Luck’s favourite person with a knack for saving everyone in the last single minute like Naruto.

But she comes from a different world than her boys, moves in different circles. She’s all sincere smiles and infinite love to give, she’s also all girl defiance and anger controlled in the little space that is her tiny body.

Naruto still remembers the Saint Valentine’s day she rejected him because she had a date with Ino. Apparently girls did that. They went hand in hand to the market, gifted each other flowers and fed each other ice cream by hand without worrying if it looked weird to the rest of the world.

“Valentine’s day is also Galentine’s day,” she told them the next day after scolding both: Naruto and Sasuke for spying on her date with her best friend. “We girls like to go out from time to time. You know?”

And that was that.

Sasuke still can remember the day she cried during a sparring to trick him into loosing a Taijutsu-only training.

It was uncanny in the first place that Kakashi decided to put Sasuke against Sakura in a fight, but it was definitely weirder for Sakura to take any form of physical contact with Sasuke in a serious manner.

Therefore, when Sakura broke out crying after a well placed punch to her face, Sasuke reacted almost instinctively and approached her with his guard lowered to assess her wounds.

She, then proceeded to punch him so hard in the middle of his face that he went flying a few meters and got his nose broken. Kakashi declared her the winner.

“They taught us how to use men’s weakness for girls as an advantage in Kunoichi training.” She told him matter-of-factly after training. “You can’t lower your guard around me just because I’m a girl, Sasuke-kun.” Instructed the Kunoichi.

“And what are we supposed to do against girls, Sakura-Chan?” Asked Naruto, curious as ever by anything that had to do with the female gender.

“I don’t know…” She stressed. “What did they taught you?” Sasuke doesn’t remember any teacher schooling him about best friends and loved ones using his care for them against him.

Maybe they should have.

Sakura has proven time and time again to be quite the anomaly for them.

Hence, when Sakura gives them three cherry scented little pink cards decorated with a blue ribbon and the words ~ Please Joins Us to Celebrate! ~ In bold, golden letters.

They’re obviously surprised but maybe, not so much.

“What is this, Sakura-Chan?” Asks Kakashi with a fake smile lightening his one squinted eye.

“My mom is pregnant and already passed her third trimester!” She annunciates with the happiest grin they’ve ever seen on her. “So we are throwing a baby shower to celebrate.”

“A baby shower?” Asks Naruto confused.

Sasuke is equally confused, he’s only accustomed to celebrate a baby after they are already born. But it was rare for him to be able to celebrate with the mothers of his clan when they were alive and now is even odder.

“Yes! It’s foreign custom.” She explains “we throw a party to celebrate and cheer up the mother, we play games and give her gifts. We are also supposed to know the baby’s gender in the party but mom doesn’t want to know until the she gives birth…”

“Ah! But Sakura-Chan! We don’t have any gifts!” Exclaims the Jinchuriki agitated.

“Don’t worry, you don’t have to bring anything.” Smiles Sakura, “and if you don’t want to come bare handed then you can adhere yourself to my gift, the party is in a week anyway and I haven’t bought anything yet…”

“Then we can buy her ramen!”

In a strange act of unprompted violence Sasuke hits him right on the middle of his head “She can’t be eating that crap, idiot!” growls Sasuke “It can hurt the baby!”

“But what can we buy it!” Cries Naruto, holdings his head in pain “We don’t even know if it’s a boy or a girl!”

“It doesn’t matter, Naruto. Mom and dad hate gender stereotypes, besides” explains Sakura “I wear red even though I’m a girl and everyone on Ino’s team wears an earring, also Sasuke-kun wears purple sometimes,” exemplifies the pinkette looking directly at her crush, “No one knows about weapons more than TenTen-san and Neji-San has the prettiest hair in the whole village.”

“So that means…” Tries Naruto.

“It means gender equality or death, Naruto.” She smiles creepily “Now, are you going to accompany me to buy my mom a present or not?”

“I will,” volunteers Sasuke hiding his blush under the high collar of his shirt.

“Then Naruto and I will be buying her another gift” smirks Kakashi, directing a conspiratorial look towards Sasuke who in turn, glares at his teacher. Kakashi then hoists Naruto by the collar of his track jacket and takes him away against all of Naruto’s complains.

They spend the whole afternoon in the market after her announcement, it’s the longest time they’ve ever spent together alone outside of training or missions and Sakura doesn’t even squeal or blush one single time.

It’s actually really fun.

After the baby shower Sasuke starts to gravitate towards her house.

The first time it happens Sakura thinks it’s cute and a noble gesture coming for a normally aloof Sasuke.

She comes back home from a date with Hinata and TenTen when the sight of Sasuke stocking her mom’s shopping bags in the kitchen takes her by surprise.

“Hello, Sasuke-kun!” Sakura blushes red up to her ears and squirms under his cold gaze. “I didn’t know you were coming over.”

“Oh, Sakura-Chan!” Welcomes Mebuki “your cute little teammate found me on the market and insisted on helping me home” Relates the pregnant woman holding her own cheek, smiling wide while recalling her encounter with Sasuke “I was about to invite him over for dinner so why…”

“I have to go.” Interrupts her the prodigy “Take care, Haruno-San” He bows to the older woman, uncharacteristically polite “bye, Sakura.”

The next time he actually invites himself over for dinner when Sakura comments on his father having to go away for the weekend.

“But he’ll come back by Monday.” Explains Sakura “So mom and will make do until then.”

Sasuke waits until they finish every mission for the day to talk to her, he doesn’t want Naruto or Kakashi to hear him and think they’re invited too “I will accompany you to your house today” he says in a serious tone of voice, “it’s not good for you and your mom to be alone.”

Sakura of course accepts his offer, even when Sasuke didn’t ask her anything.

In a weird turn of events Sasuke cooks them a healthy dinner and prepares green juice for her mom.

“The women of the clan used to gather around our house and talk about pregnancy and babies when anyone of them got pregnant.” He explains late at night when Sakura’s mom goes to sleep and leaves them to clean the table. “Father didn’t like us boys to share those moments because it was for the women, but I sneaked away with them nevertheless.”

Sasuke smiles nostalgic and sad all at the same time, as he usually does in the rare moments he talks about his past with Sakura.

“But why?”

“Because gender equality or death, Sakura.”

After their talk is easier for Sasuke to visit Sakura’s home or walk alongside her to the market. They both enjoy the experience of expecting the new life coming onto their lives even if is only Sakura who’s getting a new sibling.

Naruto smiles sadly every time he sees his teammates walk together after training but allows them their little piece of heaven.

Kakashi always smirks when he sees Sasuke at the market and he’s not buying weapons or vegetables and instead buys China Roses, Mimosas and Lilies for a calming pregnancy. But also buys Cosmos and Sakura branches in bloom, seemingly only on a whim.

He gravitates around Sakura and her family, attracted by the warmth and the kindness emanating from them, allows himself to enjoy Sakura’s world as if it belonged to him.

Did you watch road to ninja? I don't think it was a 100/10 movie, but the thing about switching personalities was interesting. What do you think that would be the change in Gaara's personality? And considering that Lee turned out to be a perv with no coordination, what would their relationship be like?

i never watched RtN because when it was first announced and i was looking for Lee’s AU self and i saw that he...didn’t have anything? it was just robbing lee of something interesting. and once again it’s like missed opportunities. and then i found out that lee’s lil thing that they half-assed and kind of dropped was... that he wears women’s underwear???? specifically like took tenten’s??? like what the fuck? there’s so many layers to that that upset me and i just have no interest in that. which sucks cause i’d loved the concept. i’d hated how neji was too in it. like he was an uber pervert. like ha ha men being perverts so funny! ugh

but like as far as how things would have gone... or could have gone...

if i’d had the chance to do a RtN AU Lee would not have been a pervert for one thing. I think Lee would have had a colder side, been judgmental and mean, and hard on others. I think he could have kept not being able to use ninjutsu and still been that way too. he would be a genius of hard work and he’d basically look down on anyone. like “oh you can do things i can’t but you’re still not as good as me? pathetic.” i think he’d curse and be crass and rude, and have very little respect for others, feel like he doesn’t need anyone because he didn’t have anyone to help him at all.

because RtN is an inversion--or at least, that was the execution for most of the main cast. which is why i feel Lee should be mean and cold. lee’s hot headed in canon, but also incredibly kind and warm so an inverse of that is someone cold, distant, aloof, and cruel. i don’t think he’d be driven by passion and determination, and i don’t think he’d wear the suit. i think he’d have like a kind of dangerous air about him as opposed to a goofy air that make ppl underestimate him.

with gaara, that’s a hard one. i think with gaara like the first thing is to just like scrap the stuff during the chuunin exams in terms of how he carried himself from the ages of 6 to 12. like that trauma is not who he is, who he is is the child we saw in the flashbacks where he was sweet and soft and kind; he reached out to ppl. he wanted to have closeness. he wanted to have love in his life. and what we see of him after that is someone who doesn’t know how to navigate the world around him in a healthy way so he seems closed off and stoic and distant, but he’s actually highly emotional and empathetic.

so with all that being said, i think gaara would not be empathetic. i don’t think he would have cared about others at all, and i think that being a jinchuuriki would heighten that. make him more set apart and more determined to remain that way. since RtN is an AU, i’d have to assume that the trauma he experienced didn’t happen. instead he would have had a family that loved and supported him, but that he was ultimately uninterested in. i think he’d see emotional ties, love and friendship, as weakness and not strength. i think all softness and kindness would be gone from him, and we’d have a harder much crueler character.

i think it’d be easy to say “oh gaara would be bubbly and friendly and clingy” but i think that’s too easy and honestly not an inverse of who he is, because who he is is someone who does deeply want connections to others, he just doesn’t express himself in a way that translates that way.

so i think what we have is two ppl who would both be rather cruel--i think Lee would be cold in his cruelty, whereas i think Gaara’s would be like scorching. like i think gaara would be more prone to loud anger, and i think lee would be more prone to quiet bouts of rage.

if we say they still face off in the chuunin exams i think lee should win--cause let’s be real he should have won in the first place. i think lee being a genius of hard work should be an element that turns the series narrative on its head. like he’s not proving that he can be a genius on par with the likes of neji and sasuke and gaara. he is a genius and he outstrips them by miles.

so i think he’d win that fight, which immediately changes their history.

i think from there, they’d butt heads a lot. i think they’d have situations where they’re thrown together a lot, and there’d be resentment between them and a sort of “i don’t like you, i don’t need you” vibe. like they’re reluctant to work together, but they do, and they sort of develop this begrudging comradery, but they get into little snits a lot in the middle of situations where they really cannot get into it. gaara will yell at lee and lee will turn a cold shoulder to him, but the moment gaara’s in danger lee’s there to save him.

they genuinely develop a relationship where they really care about each other, but i think have a hard time expressing that or admitting to it because of their perspectives. Gaara thinks love and friendship is weakness; Lee sees himself as better than. he doesn’t need love because he’s too good to need that. he doesn’t need others, he doesn’t need support. he just needs himself, his strength, his speed. he did everything on his own, he got to where he is on his own. he doesn’t need Gaara.

i think there’d be a lot of tension between them when they come to the point where they realise “oh... i care about this person” and i think it would actually cause problems especially in battle. i think there’d need to be that high stakes moment where they’re problems with communicating lead to one of them almost dying, which forces them to finally acknowledge that maybe they do need each other, and more than that maybe they actually want each other--like it’s one thing to need someone in your life, it’s another to want them there. and they have to come to that realisation that “I want this person here. i want this person at my side.”

and for both of them that would be so hard to accept until they really finally need to.

Haruno Kozue

Hello! I’m Mod ATB, and I’ll be reviewing your OC this time around! So, let’s get started!

Pretense: Diverges from canon somewhere after Shippuden Name: Miyara Kozue Clan: Haruno Gender: Male Age: 10-19 Time set in: Begins 2 years before Boruto Birthplace: Narakami (IDK if there’s a canon name for the capital of Hi no Kuni) Lives in: Haruno residence

(ATB: All of this looks fine, but I would add in the meaning of Kozue’s name. And his birthday as well. Adding in astrological signs or blood type is up to you but would add more to his character, too.)

Appearance As a child, Kozue was small for his age. He had brown eyes and pale pink hair, the mark of a Haruno clan member. He has a fair amount of scars on his body, gained from his time as a shinōbi, but the 3½ inch scar on his stomach came from his time before the Academy. As a teen, Kozue is still rather short (standing at 5'3). He wears his hair short, either slicked back or held back with a hairband.

(ATB: While some things are missing, such as skin tone and weight, I can get a general image of what he looks like. Everything looks good to me, but I would add those two, just to get a clearer image of Kozue. And maybe a sentence describing what kinds of clothes he wears. You don’t have to go into specifics, but maybe try adding if he likes casual clothes, what kinds of colors he wears often, etc.)

Family • Miyara Kikyo: Kozue’s mother; ran away from home at the age of fifteen to be with her yakuza boyfriend (who grew up to be Kozue’s father). Kikyo had Kozue when she was in her late forties. He remembers her as a fiery, intelligent and persevering woman who loved to dance. (ATB: You could add in a brief reason explaining the reason why she ran away. You don’t have to, but I think it would be good to know.)

• Miyara Chiriko: Kozue’s father; a yakuza boss. He inherited the position from his father; despite his occcupation, Chiriko was known as a gentle and kind-hearted man whose passion was helping people. (ATB: I think it quite interesting that his father, the leader of a yakuza group, was known as “gentle and kind-hearted.” And not in a bad way. I think adding in a little more between Kozue and his father’s relationship would be great, because we know how Kozue felt about his mother but not about his father.)

• Miyara Atsumu: Chiriko’s adoptive son / brother. (Atsumu was found as a child during a raid. Chiriko adopted him as his “little brother” to protect him. He is closer in age to Kozue than Chiriko). Atsumu was a michievous and friendly type whom Kozue viewed as a brother.

• Haruno Kizashi is Kikyo’s estranged older brother. He is also Kozue’s grand uncle. (ATB: One tiny thing: if Kizashi is Kikyo’s older brother, that would make him Kozue’s uncle. Not his grand uncle. A grand uncle would be the brother of his grandparents.)

• Uchiha Sakura is Kozue’s first cousin once removed. (ATB: Sakura would be his first cousin.)

• Uchiha Sarada his first cousin twice removed. (ATB: And Sarada would be his first cousin once removed.)

Occupation: Shinobi (Active duty) Rank: Starts as a genin, becomes a chūnin around fifteen, and tokubetsu jōnin around nineteen (ATB: This looks fine and reasonable.)

Team: Team Five • Tsuzumi Ushio: She was on the team that brought Kozue and his family to Konoha. As his sensei, she is a tough and unrelenting teacher, determined to make tough shinōbi out of her students.

• Yakushi Ken: Son of Yakushi Kabuto. He is protective of his dad and will defend his family honour against anyone who dares try to slander it. He tries his hardest to look smart, but in reality his true interests lie in body building, not medical jutsu. He is the team’s taijutsu specialist.

• Imada Junko: Junko is a chipper person, the sort who can cheerfully sing and dance at five in the morning in freezing weather. She is Team Five’s ninjutsu specialist.

(ATB: For Ken and Junko, I would add in maybe a sentence or two describing how they and Kozue feel about each other.)

Relationships • Haruno Kizashi & Mebuki: Kozue stayed with them for his first two years in Konoha. He moved out shortly after becoming a genin, but he still drops by their place for dinner every now and then if he can. (ATB: This is fine but, again, maybe add a sentence detailing how Kizashi and Mebuki first felt about Kozue. I can’t help but wonder how they - especially Kizashi - felt about his estranged older sister suddenly contacting him and then the circumstances under first meeting Kozue.)

• Uchiha Sakura: She was one who saved his life the day he came to Konoha. She visited him regularly whilst he was in the hospital, and they bonded. She will sometimes drop groceries off at his place, or scold him playfully for not taking care of himself.

• Uchiha Sarada: Kozue and Sarada acknowledge one another as kin and sometimes chat a bit, but they’re not really close.

• Uzumaki Naruto: The Hokage was one of the first people Kozue saw when he woke up. They are on friendly terms, but they’re not close.

• Uzumaki Hinata: She was another person who visited Kozue when he was in the hospital, though her visits were not as regular as Sakura’s. As the wife of the Hokage, it was important for the public to see her caring for injured children, especially if said injured children happen to be related to Haruno Sakura. (As herself, Hinata just happened to be genuinely compassionate). Kozue never forgot her kindness. (ATB: Very interesting point about her role as Hokage’s wife, and I do think that is a very good way to have Hinata and Kozue interact.)

• Uzumaki Boruto: They’re friends, but only after Boruto was convinced that Kozue does not, in fact, have a crush on his mom. (ATB: Haha, that’s really cute!)

• Uzumaki Himawari: She has a crush on Kozue, who thinks Himawari is really pretty, but at the moment he isn’t really looking for romance.

• Uchiha Sasuke: He is the entity that comes with Naruto, Hinata and Sakura. Kozue has always been a bit unnerved by his cousin’s one-armed spouse, but has never said anything about it. (ATB: Really like this and think it’s a nice touch. Sasuke would come off as a bit unnerving to some people, and I think that says a lot about him that even a yakuza heir would be wary.)

• Tsuzumi Ushio: Kozue and his sensei have a good relationship; outside of training, she doesn’t treat him like a child or handle him with pity; she treats him like an adult, and in turn Kozue feels as if he can trust her with things he wouldn’t even tell Sakura.

• Azuma Nobu & Imada Junko: Nobu and Junko often invite Kozue to hang out after training, usually to catch a film or eat out.

(ATB: His relationships have variety, which is great. He has his family, he has friends and he has his acquaintances - he’s not close with everyone but he also isn’t completely detached from them. The only thing I would suggest is maybe add in who Azuma Nobu is, because I didn’t see him mentioned in the team section and you didn’t specify who he was. Also, on some of the characters, add in how Kozue feels about them (or how they feel about him). But, other than those couple things, his relationships look good.)

Personality For the survivor of a traumatic tragedy, Kozue is surprisingly well-adjusted. He has friends and (healthy) hobbies outside of shinōbi work, and he isn’t particularly obsessed with revenge. He’s had therapy and no longer shuts down when put in enclosed spaces, though he’ll never be 100% comfortable in them. Kozue is a good peacemaker, and he has the ability to make people comfortable and open up. Being raised as a yakuza heir has given Kozue a certain confidence. He gives off the impression that he couldn’t care less what people think of him, and this draws people to his side. If there’s anything he’s inherited from his mother, it’s her charisma.

Around his friends, where there’s no one to impress and no part to play, Kozue is comfortable enough to just sit back and be a listener. He’ll laugh and roll his eyes and just be a teenager. It’s the only time he really, truly relaxes.

As a shinōbi, Kozue is a careful planner. He’s calculative, and more practical than sentimental; he’s the type who would readily end one life to save ten others. He sometimes has difficulty relating to people’s emotions.

(ATB: Really gotta give kudos to you have adding in him having therapy. It’s something that I personally don’t see very often. And I give props for the therapy not completely “curing” him, but instead making his life more comfortable and manageable. I like that his being raised as a yakuza heir gave him a confidence and charisma - I could totally see that being truthful. And, I think it’s great that you add he only really relaxes around his friends; it communicates that he’s really been affected by his previous status (always have to put up a certain front or “be” a certain kind of person) and, that despite everything, he’s still just a teenager.

I also appreciate that he has trouble with relating to others’ emotions, which is once again good at tying in his background. I will suggest thinking about if his inability to relating to others’ emotions affected some relationships he has - or could have had.)

History Kozue was born the heir to a major yakuza syndicate located in Narakami, the capital of Hi no Kuni. He lived a relatively normal childhood, constantly accompanied by his adoptive older brother, Atsumu.

When Kozue was ten, word spread that the government was planning to crack down on the yakuza. Gangs began to merge; at the end, there were only two gangs were left standing: the Hisuikumo-gumi, to which Kozue and his family belonged, and the Aoishishi-kai.

The Aoshishi-kai were a ruthless group that had no qualms against extortion, loan sharking, and drug trafficking. The Hisuikumo-gumi had been, under Kozue’s grandfather, just as bad, if not worse, but since Chiriko’s rise to power they contented themselves with mostly gambling and smuggling. The two were rival clans, but for sixty years they’d had a truce, each clan keeping to their own territory.

Everything changed when the Aoshishi-kai were busted for drug deal. They blamed the Hisuikumo-gumi for snitching; a gang war ensued. The Aoshishi-kai vastly outnumbered the Hisuikumo-gumi; Chiriko knew it was only a matter of time before things would go south.

Thus, one night a sleepy Kozue found himself shaken awake and bundled into a carriage with his mother, a couple servants, and Atsumu. Chiriko stayed behind to help his men; the plan was for the three of them to flee to Konoha and hide with Kikyo’s older brother, Haruno Kizashi, and perhaps hire Konoha shinōbi to help boost their odds of winning.

That never happened. Kizashi received a letter in advance from Kikyo; a vague letter that simply stated she wished to make amends, and that she and her sons would arrive in three days. She never showed up; a week later, returning team happened upon a locked and abandoned carriage a few miles from Konoha, the piled up bodies Kikyo, Kozue, the driver, and the two servant girls inside; there was copious amounts of blood everywhere, and a body matching Atsumu’s description was found a few feet away. Kikyo and the two servant girls were both dead, and Kozue, trapped under their bodies and sporting a stab wound to the chest, was delirious and half dead at the time of discovery. He would have died, had it not been for Sakura.

Kozue spent three weeks in the hospital. When he woke up, he was informed that his father and his men had all been killed by the Aoshishi-kai. He was later given over to the care of his grandparents. Two years later, he joined the genin corps.

(ATB: Really interesting background, especially with introducing yakuza. I also think you chose an interesting way to incorporate a canon character as a relative, and I think it’s cool you didn’t make him and Sakura siblings. But, I would suggest adding in how Kozue felt during his life in Konoha.

Also, adding in the reason why he joined genin corps and how his life with his grandparents in Konoha was would be good for more characterization. You didn’t add them in his relationship section, so I wonder if they were on bad terms with each other. I would also add a little more to his childhood.

While I think it’s charming he had a relatively normal childhood despite being a yakuza heir, I think actually detailing how he was raised would tie into nicely with his personality. You already have his background affecting personality, so why not go the extra yard to really put the pieces together.)

Abilities Kozue has no Kekkei Genkai. His taijutsu and ninjutsu is about average; he’s best at genjutsu, but his real speciality is his tactical thinking.

(ATB: His abilities actually look pretty good but the information is a bit lacking. Maybe add in some genjutsu techniques, how well he does with shurikenjutsu or talk about his speed or stamina, etc. to flesh things out. You could even talk about what kind of tactics he favors in battle.)

Other: —

ATB’s Final Thoughts: Overall, I think Kozue is an interesting character. I especially have a soft spot for gangs and yakuza politics in the Naruto series, so good on that because it’s a perspective I hardly see. The only thing I would personally suggest is expand on some of his profile. Flesh out his childhood, hobbies, relationships, abilities and maybe even add some trivia. He’s good as he is now but he could be even MORE with a little bit more information on these various points. But that mainly depends on you as you may not even be finished creating him - or you just may not want to, which is also fine.

So, yeah, I really like Kozue and I thank you for your patience and for sending in your OC!

What I was trying to get at is not criticism to you guys, but the fact that the scenario that Boruto canon leaves even a story as carefully treaded as yours to inevitably deal with are: Naruto gets everything, while Sasuke is: a Konoha lapdog just like his brother (with all the history there, it hurts to even thinka bout) with no family or anyone or anything he can call his own (and he loved so deeply), broken and abandoned and unwanted and miserable, only there to do Naruto's dirty work. 1/2

2/2 And that’s not your fault (you’re doing fantastically considering the premise you have to deal with), but Boruto canon, is what I was trying to say. Canon (NH) turns most fix-it potentials into Naruto being a middleaged cliché that now deigns himself to pursue Sasuke, which with the way they are (Naruto who has everything, Sasuke who has and believes he is nothing) reads like he just wants to fuck his trophy rival, and Sasuke like someone’s second choice, the choice of someone who got bored.

3/3 Sorry for the spam. I feel like what I was trying to explain still didn’t come across, but hopefully it does. Anyway, something more upbeat, and now about your fic instead of messy NH/canon - the inclusion of Sarada in the story gave your Sasuke something of his own, which is very needed in a (canon) world where everyone who cared about Sasuke disappeared or now only cares about Naruto, so are you thinking of including Taka? I feel like that would do a world of good for Sasuke’s agency.

I agree with you on the way Naruto reads (and this is the interpretation our Sasuke rper is going with, that he sees himself as nothing more than a trophy rival Naruto wants to fully conquer). I’m not planning on keeping Naruto on the guilt-free scope, because he is a problematic character. For instance, he cares about people liking him more than about doing the right thing… talk about a hero!

And he could have pushed against his cultural homophobia and sexism yet didn’t, which I root in his own childhood fear of rejection (however, having a reason to act badly doesn’t make it okay). This is why I included dark!Naruto parts in the fic, because our hero could extremely easily turn into a villain (just as our Sas-antagonist often acts as a hero). I hope the next chapters will surprise you in a good way though.

As for Sarada, I see her as the only person Sasuke could get an healthy relationship with. Because they have (blood) reasons to bond, and she just can’t take advantage of her father. So I pretty much see her as his possible “salvation”, in a way Naruto can’t be. Plus, she would be his only bond outside of the whole Uchiha fiasco while still being an Uchiha.

Regarding team Taka, I’m a tad more mixed. I think Juugo would be the person who is the most likely to bond heathily with Sasuke in terms of characters… but he only joined him because another guy told him to. So that’s already a tad flawed.

Suigetsu could totally be an actual friend to Sasuke, though he seems to see him as competition or someone to measure his strength with. So I’d see them as comrades more than best friends, but this could actually work.

I’m mixed about Karin. In Boruto, she says she overcame her love for Sasuke, so that’s a good point. However, the way she acted towards him in the manga was sexually aggressive in a way Sasuke would probably not enjoy. The grown-up Karin could be a friend, but there’s still some creep-story here…

You seem really invested in Sasuke (thank you, I love him, he’s my fav) so do you have other ideas to make his life better?

Yes sakura loves sasuke (even though her love is selfish) however sasuke doesn’t love her and you know what? I dare pro-SShippers to go and comment under this post and prove to me that sasuke ‘loves’ sakura

however before you do that I have a few things to say

first don’t be disrespectful I get triggered real quick when it comes to disrespectful people

you can say whatever you want about the fictional characters you can even trash them Idc they are not real but don’t be rude to me or others then I’ll block you real quick

Second you can’t use ANY of these reasons on why sasuke loves sakura because I’m gonna break them down and show you why these reason don’t actually prove that sasuke loves her

First agrument SShippers love to use to show how sasuke loves sakura

THE CHUNIN EXAMS:

Sasuke didn’t love sakura just because he saved her that’s a weak ass agrument and if that’s the case doesn’t sasuke love Karin also? He saved her against that bear during the chunin exams! Or what about naruto? He saved naruto countless of times in part one so sasuke is in love with naruto also?

Sasuke also saves Karin while they were trying to get the 8 tails so did he love Karin then?

Another thing I want to point out is that the reason sasuke saved sakura is because there teammates sasuke is not this horrible person a lot of people try to paint him as

he wouldn’t just let his teammate die! to be honest anyone could’ve been in sakura place as sasuke’s teammate and he would’ve save them also (ino, choji, hinata, tenten, kiba, shikamaru etc.) it’s not because he loves her it’s because she was in danger and sasuke is not a bad guy

During the chunin exams sasuke does CARE for sakura but he doesn’t love her there is a difference

THE WAR ARC(when sasuke put sakura in the genjutsu instead of killing her):

Sasuke not killing sakura (IN THIS PART ONLY!!!!) just proves how much he doesn’t care for her because at that time sasuke was trying to kill anyone that he had a bond with that’s why he was trying to kill naruto

He even says that naruto is standing in his way to be truly alone he didn’t say naruto AND sakura

And the only reason he put her in that genjutsu is because he knew her dumbass would try to get in the middle of the fight to try to stop them! if it wasn’t for that sasuke wouldn’t even pay her any mind

THE FOREHEAD POKE:

In the manga/anime there is a part when sasuke asks itachi what the head poke meant and itachi says that it was his way of treating sasuke as little kid that was his way of saying he has no time for sasuke the forehead poke also represents that itachi doesn’t see sasuke as his equal but more so as a child

So sasuke knowing ALL of this still would poke sakura on the head to show he loves her? I doubt it! The forehead poke shows that he has no time for sakura and that he doesn’t see her as his equal he sees her as a child

If sasuke bumped sakura and his foreheads together like itachi did to him to show that there now equals then I wouldn’t dnt mind that to be a sign of affection because that would mean he at least sees her as his equals but he doesn’t do that

And some SS-stans like to say that sasuke changed the meaning of the forehead poke and that’s a head canon at best!

when is it ever implied that sasuke changed the meaning of it? You can’t just pull stuff out of thin air to make your ship look better it doesn’t work that way

SASUKE REDEMPTION JOURNEY:

A lot of SShippers try to use sasuke redemption journey as an excuse on why he loves his family and doesn’t want them to die and blah blah blah

However sasuke decided to travel the world and see the shinobi world for himself before he got sakura pregnant, before they were even together! so that doesn’t make sense

Sasuke already planned to leave the village to make up for all his mistakes (however sasuke barely made any mistakes he was right about the horrible shinobi system he should’ve never let naruto TNJ him) he made that decision for himself not for sakura and not for sadara who wasn’t even born then

don’t try to pin everything sasuke does on his family he seems more worried about naruto getting stabbed then his own wife going into another dimension so I doubt he’s really that stressed about his family

SASUKE CALLING SAKURA HIS WIFE:

Just because sasuke called sakura his wife doesn’t mean he loves her a lot of people are in loveless marriages right now but they still have a wife

Also saying you have a wife is one thing but ACTING like you have a wife is another

At the end when sasuke says that his and sakura’s hearts are connected because of sadara just hurt SS so bad!!! It’s not a good look for there marriage no matter how you try to spin it

he’s not saying he loves sakura he’s saying the reason they are together is because of sadara

Sadara is the glue that holds her parents together if she wasn’t around then there hearts would not be connected

Also I found it really interesting that sasuke answered sadara question that way because all sasuke had to say was that there hearts are truly connected because they love each other and he loves sadara

But he didn’t say that because sasuke doesn’t love sakura the reason he’s even with her is there child! And he doesn’t even live with them! he doesn’t even contact his own family however he contacts naruto any chance he gets

He doesn’t even tell naruto to say hi to his family in those letters he writes him, it’s like he wants nothing to do with them at all

Another thing I want to point out is that sasuke has NEVER once said he loves sakura

He never told her how important she is to him (he always talked about his bound with naruto) the only good thing he has ever said about her is that she’s not a weak women and it’s true she’s not weak but that’s not a deceleration of love!

When he met Karin he called Karin the strongest kunoichi that doesn’t mean he loved her! He just complimented her

A compliment isn’t a sign of love sorry you can point out someone is strong and not love them your just stating facts that’s it! and it’s a fact that sakura is not weak

Also having sex with someone doesn’t mean that person loves them!!!! There is a such thing called casual sex, people have casual sex ALL the time He just wanted a nut and sakura was the idiot that let him nut in her

Nothing has ever convinced me that sasuke loved sakura and I doubt that anything anyone else says will show me otherwise

And the thing is I don’t care if people ship SS but some shippers really get mad if you point out the flaws in the relationship like you have a right to ship what you want and I have a right to say why the relationship isn’t healthy

I don’t have a problem with people who ship SS and know there are flaws in the relationship but still like sasusaku anyways there not delusional

however it’s these SS-stans that think the relationship is so perfect and if you try to disagree they want you to go kill yourself

And it’s so funny to me how people self insert themselves into these characters so bad that they would rather you to slit your own wrist then have you say something bad about there fav FICTIONAL character and it’s disgusting

So I dunno if anyone would like care But the manga does actually have an in canon explaination for Naruto's last minute “healing” abilities and Sasuke's sudden proficiency with the Rinnegan in those final battles. There's also some decent evidence for why the Senju don't have the mokuton and even why Naruto can't use it, though he could have if he wasn't a jinchuuriki. but its a whole thing and I'll probably make the post for me if nothing else. But ANYWAY I started thinking about it with those “Sakura has the Mokuton” posts…which I don't hate/dislike really but I feel like kinda misses a point about Tsunade and Sakura that was half-assedly made (so I don't blame anyone for not seeing it, or disagreeing with me) and would have been made a lot better if Sakura hadn't been so unpopular while the manga was running cause like…shonen jump sucks guys. Like it really sucks. I don't think it's a coincidence that two of the Big Three wiffled around boring fight scenes for eons before farting out an epilogue bathed in bad haircuts and heteronormative/undeveloped “families” before the creators jumped ship to just leave (bleach) or wash his hands of the property (naruto). Honestly. Cause like

Kishimoto once said that jump made him do the chuunin exams, when he'd planned on having Naruto travel around and learn stuff about the world and likely meet ppl and get ready to be a kage…I bet this is why some of the villages are so hinted and developed, cause it's likely the story was gonna GO to these places. But jump wanks hard over TOURNAMENTS and fights and anyway the chuunin exam was p awesome, so…it did work out there. The war arc….not so much. Better people than me have broken down that tho so I'm gonna talk about the thing I wanna talk about which is Tsunade and Sakura. So like…in the fight with Madara, we find out that Hashirama was OP as fuck, and could HEAL WITHOUT HANDSIGNS OMG (Madara like…drools over this srsly) and Tsunade doesn't lol about that, or Madara’s reverence, so it's clear that was like A Big Deal back in the day. And Hashirama is like…the god of god shinobi. That…is one fuckoff huge shadow to live under?? Like how do you top that? He healed, had an amazing “bloodline” ability, went up against all the bijuu like NBD, and ~changed the world~. We never learn about Tsunade's parents and honestly…I think it's because they never crawl out from Hashirama’s shadow…this is a total headcanon admittedly, but I don't think they died early, since that'd likely be a part of her trauma. But anyway. With Madara, Tsunade is like “I couldn't do what my grandfather did, so I made my OWN DAMN WAY.” And whips up the yin seal. And I hate that this came SO LATE into canon and not before because that's a COOL THING?

Like Tsunade couldn't be Hashirama so she became the Greatest Medic of All Time….thats a HELL of a way to break out of Hashirama’s shadow. And like…people will remember Hashirama as a legend but I like to think that Tsunade is more tangible as an idol for people, idk.

She made that yin seal, and I feel like she probably laid the foundation for all modern medical ninjutsu, and probably was a seal master in her own right. I wish we'd gotten more about Tsunade other than her trauma, she's fucking awesome?? The only actual Sannin, let's be real cause orochimaru is a shit and Jiraiya is a dumpster fire. But this whole shindig is supposedly about Sakura, cause I had a point about her and her character:

Sakura is like The Official Normal on the team who is always worried about being in Naruto and Sasuke's shadows and can't catch up and like…every time she's like “watch me guys I got this, I've caught up” *proceeds to fail and need help*

I was always like “IF YOU HAVE TO SAY IT THEN YOU HAVENT OKAY?? STOP WORRYING AND FIND YOUR OWN THING AND BE YOUR OWN PERSON”

Team 7 like Failed dude…I love the cute genin days but it was a failure and of all of them Sakura clings the fuck out of those days and like Never moves on (I don't think Naruto—still hated by the village and scared of rejection and ignorant about everything and living alone in a shitty apartment—or Sasuke—stewing in the hatred and lies from his brother and working for a kage who ORDERED THE MASSACRE OF HIS FAMILY….i mean even Kakashi, guilty about everything and unfulfilled and depressed...yeah they may have some fond memories but they probably aren't scrambling to go back, you know?) I legit believe her Sasuke obsession is in no small part fueled by a desire to go back to idyllic childhood days where the world wasn't complicated and the future looked bright…Sakura FLAT OUT says this in her last “”””confession””””” to Sasuke before the VOTE2 fight.

She's like those people who peaked in high school and never stop telling you how they were prom queen once and god Kaytlyyn I get it prom was a thing that mattered to you. It's why she acts so childish around Sasuke and why they'll never be a real couple She just Devolves back to being a 13 year old again and tbh I ship SNS hardcore but I DO THINK Sasuke could have loved her if she'd actually let herself grow up and act like a grown woman around him…a poke is not better than a kiss holy fuck. I CRINGE my asshole inside out whenever I see that panel where Sasuke denies her the kiss but TBH??? I would too?? If this THIRTY YEAR OLD WOMAN comes up and “tee hee”s and stares up her lashes and points her toes in like a little girl?? And then doesn't like…communicate?

THE issue that started Gaiden? SO GLAD THE SS FAMILY GOT THAT FIGURED OUT

Nor does she go for a kiss goodbye on the cheek? Or a hug? Or SAY anything? Or give him a return date to come back or we need to rethink this if only for our emotionally needy daughter? Like a Sane Person in an adult relationship?? Some wife?? She should be able to do these basic ass things without acting like a preteen?? Seriously y'all go find a thirty something year old woman and picture them acting like Sakura did in that scene…so infantilizing. I wouldn't kiss her either, damn. And we see like no sign she acts any other way with him. SASUKE DOESNT KNOW HER. And because Sakura can't act like an adult with him, she's never gotten to really know him either??? So infuriating but this isn't supposed to be anti-SS, and I mean it cause I DO THINK Sakura was supposed to do something in this story and didn't cause we needed new genin for child soldiering. I THINK SAKURA COULD HAVE ENDED THE CHILD SOLDIER PRACTICE. We see in her shinden novel that she and Ino are establishing clinics for kids and orphans and like…assessing their mental health, and then we hear like nothing of that but that might have been her revolutionary idea outside of Naruto and Sasuke's shadow cause she does it cause she sees how fucked in the head her teammates are and she had a healthy childhood and look what that did for her. DUDE she deals with SAI her best friend can walk into people's MINDS whyyyyyy???? did Sakura not get to revolutionize medicine again with mental health care?? Helping shinobi cope with trauma, proving that neglect, abandonment, trauma and war is ruining kids and contributing to the cycles of violence?? Tsunade learned to fix bodies and Sakura mastered that so why not let her discover how to help people fix their minds…and change the system that way. Look I get that this is speculation and headcanon, but it feels like that's the groundwork tentatively laid? Sakura growing up and leaving her idyllic childhood behind and changing the system with her more balanced and objective view on things since SHE had a normal childhood (in context, okay) Anyway I could spiral into like 10 different rants from this and I probably will at some point but whatever Hey tumblr I'm hexalene I'm late to the fandom and I have a lot of useless opinions

One last declaration

Due to the recent cover of the new chapter for FT I've officially given up hopes that Grayza will be canon and accepted that it will end up being Gruvia that happens. I can only deal with Gruvia becoming canon without being super salty afterwards is knowing that FT has become such a terrible manga and Mashima is just bad at storytelling so of course it's going to have some bad ships. With that being said I feel the need to get my salt out now and remember this is all opinion even though I'm sure I'll get crap for it anyway. Here's a list of all the Gray ships that are better than Gruvia: Grayza Graylu Gratsu Gray x literally anyone other than Juvia I think people see Gruvia as equivalent to like NaruHina or SasuSaku. The problem with that is neither hinata nor sakura were stalkers, they didn't have their rooms filled to the brim with sasuke or Naruto posters, they didn't have tons of dolls shaped like their loved ones and didn't invade their homes. Sakura had her own developed and and flushed out character and hinata did too (Not as much but enough for a side character). Juvia's character is all about Gray and their relationship, she's not her own person and I'd go one but all this stuff has been said by a ton of other people anyway. Gray and Erza are both devolepod characters and as we've seen share a strong and respectful bond that I believe could flourish into a healthy relationship, they'd both challenge each other to be better and provide each other with the love and protection they both need. I believe that they could've been the best ship in the fandom but oh well I guess, I'm not going to give up shipping them but like I said I'll accept what becomes canon I also don't like Jerza but that's mostly because I hate Jellal. It's not so much of the actuall relationship. P.S. I'll be changing my name soon, mostly because my blog has more than just Grayza stuff and I don't really like it anymore (the name)

Oh boy. I should have known this ship was coming. My opinion on NaruSaku is currently all over the map. I’ve kind of eluded to things before, but I guess I should be 100% honest here. I’m putting the rest under a ‘Read More’ since it’ll get long-winded. And I must ask that you do not yell at me or screencap this post. If you do either, I will not hesitate to block your ass. Alright, let’s do this...

I am less into NaruSaku now than I was years ago. There will always be a soft spot in my heart for them, and I can see why people would ship them, but things have changed and they’re no longer even an OTP for me like NaruHina has always been. That’s not to say I think they’re a bad ship, but I see so much undue praise for this ship and it doesn’t deserve all of it to me. They’re... alright. A good ship, but not great. Not my favorite, but definitely not the worst thing in the fandom.

First off, they have a terrible start. Just godawful. Sakura spends all of her first chapter appearance-wise being absolutely terrible to Naruto. The first time we see her she’s needlessly mean to him and he did nothing to warrant such. I get Naruto used be kind of obnoxious, but Sakura could be just as bad to him in return. This isn’t a huge problem (or even a real negative) as they get better; I just wanted to bring it up because I never see it brought on my dashboard and I’m going to reference this later when I talk about things I like about the pair.

Now let’s move on to actual negatives for this ship.

Moving on, a lot of their interactions have something to do with Sasuke, and it makes me wonder if they’d even be friends if not for Sasuke or being on the same team. I enjoy their friendship for the most part, but I get this feeling if they weren’t on the same team, they wouldn’t have the same bond they do. The friendship itself is also a bit overrated. As much as I like them, Naruto has better friendships with Gaara and Shikamaru.

Also, and this is more a personal thing, but I really hate how Sakura hits him. I know it’s supposed to be funny, but it’s not to me. It’s not cute. It’s really cringeworthy to me. I will say the anime blew this trait up, but it’s still something that should have stopped before the Ninja War.

And the fandom for NaruSaku is not one I’m a fan of. There are definitely problems with NaruHina, but the problems with NaruHina and its fandom are blown up and the problems with NaruSaku and its fandom are minimized, at least on my dashboard. NaruSaku has a lot of problems in its fandom, the biggest being absolutely crapping on any and everything Hinata does like y’all are so pressed that she got with Naruto. (Before it’s brought up, this is an inverse problem with Sakura and the NaruHina fandom; it’s just a bigger problem for Hinata and NaruSaku.)

The fandom is always bringing Hinata down to prop Sakura up, and it’s gross to me. If most of your arguments against Hinata can be disproven by canon, why keep them up? Also, character development for Hinata does not exist unless she gets over Naruto. Oh, she’s a more confident person who can actually fight and stand up for herself and has improved greatly over the course of the series? All of that means nothing because she still loves Naruto and thus hasn’t changed at all. That is how y’all come off to me, and it’s the single most annoying thing about the fandom.

All this being said, there are also lots of positives.

These two as a friendship feel very natural. They do become a lot closer over the course of the series, and going from where they started to where they end, you can see just much things have improved for them over time. They can just have fun together and be dorky, if not sometimes mischievous, shits together.

They do also root for one another. One thing I will never get is when people downplay Sakura’s support of Naruto. Even if it took longer than some feel it should have, it still happened. I hate when people downplay this as well because like, she was willing to do whatever it took for Naruto’s dream even back in the Chunin Exams. (Even if it almost cost them, she did want to protect Naruto’s dream, and that’s sometimes overlooked.)

Also, this could be a really sweet pairing if Kishimoto actually wanted to go this route. You can see shades of this in early-Shippuden before Sasuke came back and ruined things. After two years, you can see just how easier they fit into each other’s lives and they do have some genuinely good interactions.

Naruto and Sakura also balance each other. (Not in the same way Naruto and Hinata do, but still.) Sakura is very much more intelligent, and if Kishimoto didn’t decide to kill all of her potential, she could have shown off her more careful and rational side more. Naruto, on the other hand, is impulsive and loud, and doesn’t always think before he does. Someone like Sakura could rein him in (without hitting him) and let him know that there is another solution to things.

And really, outside of Lee, Naruto is the only person I can really see Sakura working with. While I’m totally happy with NaruHina happening, and they work and are healthy in canon, if Naruto had to be with someone else, I could see him and Sakura being happy together. They have chemistry, and a relationship between them could work out.

(Before anyone asks, this is not an invitation to say Naruto is unhappy with Hinata. He’s happy with her and their relationship is cute. Sorry, but I don’t want that to be a comment on this post at all.)

That’s really all I had to say. It’s nice to let all of this out, and this rant was very cathartic for me.

Terras soul is fragmented in the his armor and inside Terranort shows him and Master Xehanort arguing and it's possible to save him. Vanitas is a nothing he was made from Ventus. Vanitas is a sick person, because he has no kills is null. He tried to destroy countless worlds. Also so him trying to take her body is somehow better than killing her? They both erase her. For Vanitas to turn good and them trust him right away is bad for Aqua to love him, eck. Besides Aqua clearly cares for Terra and Ven, and is implied to have feelings for Terra. Why ship her either anyone else, especially someone who saw her as a backup vessel. Even if he’s redeemed for her to forgive all he did at the drop of a hat is pretty silly. Sure she’s forgiving and caring but even that would be wrong. Maybe after countless years but by then she’d be with Terra

a) it seems you have no concept of what crack shipping is, because that often has absolutely no basis in canon and can be as shallow as liking two characters and deciding to put them on a relationship for that reason alone. You don’t need a canon justification for crack shipping when there are fics that exist solely on “What if?” concepts or alternate universes. You don’t need a reason to ship two characters other than “I want to”.

b) you do apparently understand that you can redeem mass murderers, but it can take a long time and be part of an extended story arc, which some people require to ship two characters and like exploring what such a redemption arc would look like anyway. Villains are often not redeemed at the drop of a hat - there is often a large period of time where their actions are scrutinised and they are distrusted, and there is a reason why redemptions have to be earnt.

c) Most Vanitas redemption fics I’ve read treat the novels as canon, and treat his character on the basis that they are. You seem to be dismissing that - and even if the novels aren’t canon, people are still allowed to treat them as if they are, because fanfic are just “what if?” stories. “What if the novels were canon?” “What if two characters that hate each other were forced to find common ground?” “What if I tried to redeem Vanitas or Sasuke or Kylo Ren, what would that look like?” (and you just accepted the “moment of passion” thing as a valid reason to start a relationship with a former villain, so there you go. you have an apparently acceptable chain of events that leads to vegeta x bulma. so you know it’s possible.)

d) A character does not have to become a good person for you to want to ship them with a good person. You don’t have to write healthy relationships, either. Sometimes people just want to write about fucked up unhealthy relationships, and villain/hero shipping is a way to do that. And writing about fucked up relationships does not make you a bad person. You can write whatever you want, and that very rarely reflects your IRL values as a person. And you, anon, are allowed to dislike that as much as you want, but it’s probably best not to call people just having a good time “sick” for playing in canon’s sandbox.

e) Using canon to discount non-canon ships is where shipwars and general dickery lies, and to be honest, I don’t care what ships people write about in their fanfic that will never be canon because it doesn’t affect me. If Vanitas and Aqua end up together in canon I’ll have a problem, but if it’s a fanfic it doesn’t matter. If someone wants to disregard the canon SoKai to write about SoRiku, who gives a shit.

f) Applying real world morality in regards to forgiveness to media is a fool’s errand, because if we did, I wouldn’t be able to ship Soriku because of Kingdom Hearts 1. RiRoku is off the table forever. Anyway, regarding Vanitas being redeemed, I don’t see why not. We redeemed half the damn organisation, didn’t we? Those guys that were probably worse than Vanitas? Cloud Strife would’ve killed Hercules but he’s still having dinner with the gang. Forgiveness is bandied around as a Good Thing the heroes do because they’re Good People, or so amazingly OP they can change someone’s perspective.

g) For the pedants; “AC, you criticise Mashima for breathing wrong!” Yeah. Here. Where he can’t see it, and I try to give him the benefit of the doubt when it comes to his morals as an actual person as much as possible, because I know nothing about him personally or why he writes the things he does. Fiction is not a good yardstick for measuring someone’s morals.
