Ink is not a man, he's a gremlin. I see why people might be attracted to him, but for me personally, I see a little goblin man who operates with half of a brain cell. I would love to vibe with him because he seems like fun,, provided he doesn't get too excited and projectile vomit ink everywhere

"Shhh!!" G hisses. He gestures wildly at the nearby sofa, where Jess is taking a nap. You nod and tiptoe over to him to repeat your question in a whisper.

"Nothing much," G whispers back, leading you into his office, away from his sleeping almost-fiancee. He closes the door as quietly as he can and then turns and grins at you. "I'm trying again soon," he says. "This time it's gonna work out."

You have to swallow a laugh. G is now almost in the double digits on proposal attempts. You'd heard the story of the first time (the horribly-timed proposal at the Eiffel Tower) multiple times, from both parties. There was also the time he dropped the ring in the busy restaurant, the time he forgot the ring at home, the time the ring got swept out to sea...(That time Bubbles had come to the rescue, thank goodness!)

"What are you planning this time?" you ask.

"Something easy," G says. "Dinner and a movie, and then the ring is in my pocket and I pull it out and propose as the credits roll. Just gotta make sure to put the ring in my pocket and not let it fall out this time! Easy!" To prove his point, he grabs a pen from his desk and puts it into his pocket. You hear a clatter as the pen falls directly to the floor. G's fingers poke through the hole in his jacket pocket.

"Damn it!" he says, louder than intended. From outside the office you hear a sleepy voice say, "What did you break now?"

Aster looks up from his book. "What? Oh! I do have a few new ones. Hold on and I'll get them and show you." He puts a silver bookmark into his book. "Feel free to look around the apartment in the meantime," he says. "I'll just be a moment."

He sets his book down on top of a stack of books on his desk and walks away. You decide to do what he suggested and look around his new apartment. He'd moved out about the same time that Jess and G had moved in together. Jess had offered him her old apartment, which he'd happily agreed to take.

In the few months since he'd moved in, Aster had definitely made it his own. Which meant, of course, that he had filled it up with books. The office was wall-to-wall bookshelves, with a niche cut out by the window for his desk. The kitchen had a shelf added for cookbooks (although the counter was littered with take-out and tupperware containers, since Aster was still a horrible cook). The living room had a wall of shelves over and around the TV and the coffee table held yet more books.

"Here they are!" Aster called and you got a glimpse into his bedroom, which was (unsurprisingly) also filled with books. He came out carrying a tray of little pots, which he set carefully on the coffee table (between books). "Come and look!"

When you joined him, he showed you three new succulents: a new little aloe plant, a jade plant, and a hen and chicks. "They're all doing very well," he said, "even with my less-than-green thumb."

"It looks like you're doing really well on your own," you said with a smile.

Aster smiles back. "I am," he says.

So I do a lot of book suggestion with my public libraries because, well, I'm a big reader and I can't buy all of the books, no matter how much i might want to.

Anyway, it always completely baffles me when, with series - especially when its in ebook form where you can see fairly easily on Libby whether or not there is another installment after the one you're currently reading - *I* have to suggest the next book for it to be picked up.

And not in a 'why is the librarian not buying it' way, but rather in a 'why are people not asking for it????'

For exemple, I've been reading a series of like 5-6 books total. I suggested my library get the first ebook, suggestion got accepted, i read the book and liked it well enough. About 10-ish people were in the hold queue. Of course that doesn't mean they actually liked it but whatever.

I suggested the second book, and because of the nature of ebooks reservation, some people got to read it before me. Ok fine. I read it, about 6-7 people are on the hold queue when i finish it.

Guess what? No one asked for the third book.

For EVERY book in the series, i had to ask for the next one and i'm just...

For people to read it before me, they had to have an alert on the book so they would know when it becomes available at once. Cuz obviously I have those alerts, but even just checking 5 minutes after the notification, there would be at least 2-3 people with a hold on the book already.

And its not even a 'oh, the library will get the ebooks at a certain time every months/few months so that's why it wasn't available yet'

I finished the second to last book of the series recently. It had been available since like october-ish. I had actually started back then, but since I'm not a fan of reading ebooks, I couldnt finish the book in time, so into the hold queue I went.

I know that public library. I know how often they get their ebook. If anyone had asked for the last book, it would be available already.

It wasn't.

Do people not know they can suggest books? Is the process too obscure for them?

Anyway, there is no point to this post except to say, my good peeps, you can make books (or dvds or games or whatever kind of item your public library offer) suggestion! You usually can do it online!

If you can't find where exactly, usually just googling 'purchase suggestion' or 'reccomand a title' with the name of your public library will get you to the right page

And if you're still not sure, you should ask your librarian, they'll be happy to tell you how!
