Chronic Sonic pt 10

Longest part yet good grief. This was a part i had planned since the first post i made though so that makes sense.

1. Sonic dropped his cuffs on purpose if that wasn’t clear. He views it as better to hurt more and feel like himself than hurt less and not recognize himself in his reflection. (This is bad because if the inhibitors are not only helping with the pain but are also there to prevent his condition from worsening. Without them, his body starts to take the hit again.)

2, Tails knows that Sonic dropped his cuffs on purpose but won’t outright call him out on it. He is, however, upset with him because now Shadow is having to sacrifice himself just to keep him alive and Tails can’t be mad at Shadow because he’s literally just doing what’s necessary to keep Sonic from destroying himself. So it’s scolding for Sonic.

3. Usually Shadow and Sonic would do battle over this but Sonic has just done battle before the start of this comic and his inhibitor cuffs are off which means he is about as physically weak as he can get. So if you’re wondering why Shadow was able to just slap his inhibitors on Sonic without any trouble that’s why.

4. Sonic gets his first taste of watching someone else actively partake in self-destructive behaviour and not listen to him when he tries to talk them out of it. This does snap him out of some of the mental mess he’s in, and he will stop trying to actively damage himself. For now. Old habits die hard though.

The person who knows Steve the most is Tommy. The party is annoyed every time they are confronted with this fact, because sure. They know Steve’s favorite songs and his hair care routine, but Tommy knows that too. He also knows that Steve is allergic to aspirin.

Nancy and Jonathan are standing in the middle of Melvin’s arguing about painkillers because neither can remember what Steve asked for, and decide to just grab one. They all do the same thing anyways, right? Wrong.

Nancy barely has the bottle off the shelf when it’s grabbed out of her hand, “Wow, Wheeler. Breaking his heart isn’t good enough? You wanna kill him now too? Get Tylenol.”

Steve calls Dustin up and is kinda whiny until he agrees to go to his house and watch movies. He doesn’t want to do this. He makes it clear that he doesn’t. Like, an hour and a half in, there’s a knock at the door.

It’s Tommy with a birthday cake that his mom made and insisted he drop off. Dustin didn’t even know it was Steve’s birthday. They’ve known each other for two years.

Tommy is roaming the shelves as Family Video, rolling his eyes about Steve befriending Eddie ‘The Freak’ Munson and a band geek and how loudly they are just dicking off at the counter. Theyre snacking on brownies Robin brought in, and then he hears a wheeze.

Then panic. Then the thump of a body on the floor. Then without even thinking, he’s pulling an epi-pen out of his pocket and jabbing it into Steve’s thigh. Of course his ‘friends’ have no idea about his peanut allergy. Of course.

Steve has the presence of mind to blurt out, “Is that expired?”

“I don’t freaking know!” Tommy snaps, and then snaps his fingers in front of Steve’s face when his eyes start to droop. “Hey, stay awake until the ambulance gets here.”

“Am’lance?”

“Yeah, the ambulance,” He says, turning to Steve’s friends. “You did call an ambulance.”

And Eddie and Robin are like, “Yes” as they slowly back up to go do that.

My atlas/occipital bone region feels absolutely awful tonight. I assume it’s the cold snap making my old chiro injury flare up but nothing I’m doing to ease it is working.

My skull is just sitting lopsided on top of my neck because of the scar tissue and I know it’s probably not visible but to me it feels like an inch long shiv has been wedged between my skull and vertebrae.

I need a new neck, please. One without bone spurs, spinal cord compression or any of the other shit that went wrong after it all went wrong.

Look, I get it, disability support is not as trendy as being an LGBTQ+ supporter or against racism, we might not have all that cool music and colourful parade floats, our flag has a lot of black. It’s not fashionable. No business puts the disabled flag in their logos on July.

Some of us make non-disabled people uncomfortable (to their own admission) because of how we exist in this world. Some of us slouch and drool, some of us have tics and spasms, some of us are missing limbs or parts of our faces. We might have bulky mobility aids and big and noisy equipment, some of us can’t avoid to attract attention, some of us are shaped in a “weird” way. We might walk and move too slowly or take a lot of time to express ourselves, to form thoughts and words. Some of us don’t speak. Many of us can’t fit in, can’t hide our disabilities and the way we look.

No, it’s not trendy or fashionable. I get it.

But the problem is that society has decided that there is only one standard to exist, to look, to be. The rest is abnormal, wrong, sick, broken…

It’s the mindset that needs to change. We should open up to all the different possibilities we could encounter, to the idea that what we are used to see is not necessarily the only right thing. Because there is no a “right” way to exist, to go through this World, to live, to look, to be. The more we open up to all of this, the more liberating it will feel. And it will be easier to accept the possibility of a future disability that might happen, to us and the people we love.

It’s not enough to just say “yes, disabled people deserve rights”. There should be an active step forward. Be uncomfortable. Get used to the idea of being around people who are not the “standard”. Be uncomfortable with the idea of a body and a mind that don’t work like you are used to.

Chronic Sonic pt 12

POV ur bestie comes back from like three to five years abroad

1. After that delightful experience in pt 10, Sonic is a lot less quick to drop his inhibitors or actively seek out the emeralds. Since the only thing he really used to do in his free time was run around adventuring and doing battle and he can’t do that like he used to with his inhibitors preventing him from reaching his full speed (Tails is working on it) so there’s not much else for him to do. Sure he could do the routine Tails drew up for him, but doing little exercises feels pretty pointless in the face of everything. (Even if they really do help when done consistently.)

2. Amy’s back! What was she doing? I dunno, spreading joy and love and enhappifying the world, your guess is as good as mine. Tails actually called her to come visit. Sonic hasn’t seen her for a while and she’s the one person that wasn’t around while this whole spiral happened (so he doesn’t subconsciously associate her with any of it.) They’ve kept her mostly up to speed via texting and some occasional short video calls. (Oh and Sonic and Amy are platonic here. Cotton-Candy Duo. Besties!)

3. Shadow helps Tails out in his workshop sometimes.

a silly headcanon i have for peeta is that he is just LOUD. not just his feet when he walks. he has a voice that you can pinpoint out in a crowded room. his laugh can be heard above everyone else’s. sometimes when he gets excited his voice gets even louder and he has to ask katniss “i’m yelling, aren’t i?” when he notices her eyes getting wider. he can command a space with his words but also his sheer volume.
