in elementary school they gave us letter grades, but not the typical letter grades. E for excellent, VG for very good, G for good, etc. i got straight Es except for that one VG i got for no reason (that's a story to tell). in middle school they gave us number grades, and at least a handful were under what you'd consider A-level (i remember a few 80s). but i did get grades good enough to get gold honor roll every semester, which is all that mattered to me! that wouldn't be enough for me now though :P

Feels like I should say, just for the record, that I'm not an expert in mythologies and classics in general, and I've never claimed to be. I draw what I want and enjoy what I enjoy. I assume most people here on Tumblr do the same, regardless of their fandom/content.
I've somehow managed to reach the endless discourse people have on here (funny to think about how we've technically been arguing over Greek mythology for thousands of years at this point, but I digress). I have my own takes and my own interpretations and preferences; I have plenty of annoyances. I'm not interested in arguing online over what I like and I'd like to continue to keep it nice and friendly.
I like Hades Supergiant, Epic the Musical, and I like Achilles, Patroclus, Hermes, Zagreus, Melinoe, and Artemis. I don't hate any characters (including those from the Iliad & Odyssey). Yes, I have read the Iliad; no, I haven't done research on every single variation of the myths. By all means block me and spare us both the time and effort. I'd prefer that over inviting yourself onto someone's blog/post to pick a fight.
(keep reading for more context)
Seriously. It's weird to send harass an artist for drawing a mythological character you hate. Even without taking into account the various nuances, many different versions & variations of myths, or that I'm specifically drawing modern adaptations, at the end of the day, this is a character. However they act will not matter in your real life. I and most people do not engage with mythology and fiction with the intent of copying it word for word.
I frankly do not care if you hate the characters I love or vice versa. Just don't bring that negativity to the post/blog/tag of people who do not share your opinion, much less send insults anonymously. It's basic internet fandom etiquette. There's no need for such hostility and ill-will. It's a waste of time. I'll still keep making and drawing what I want, and you'll keep disliking whatever it is that you dislike. Save some time and just avoid me.

the one season = one shift format is actually perfect for fandom shenanigans because you can’t actually prove that whatever you want to be canon isn’t

rent is so great bc on first watch ur like “im not sure what just happened but that was awesome! im sure if i watched it more i would understand it” and then it’s like
angel got paid $1000 to kill someone’s dog (circumstantially). benny is like “yeah my girlfriend’s sad bc her dog died :(” and mark is like oh my god. should we throw a party. should we invite bella hadid. and then they do the most cuntwrenching song of the whole show about the culture that comes from a disenfranchised community which is just musical high after lyrical high after performance high and just when you start wondering how they could possibly end this song or if u even want them to an alarm goes off for two of the characters to take their AZT and that’s how they find out they both have AIDS so they can bang about it. and just before this is a spoken word poem song i used to dissociate during as a child but it’s so bad i’ve looped around to loving it as an adult bc yeah thats what live art is like
and it’s the best musical in the world

The fact that acquisition of not only a ticket to see MICO, but also one to see Djo was successful fills me with a joy unknown to man kind - and the shows are like... within 2 weeks of each other.
My Teenage "Metal Or Nothing" Self is dying on the inside, but they were an angsty little brat and they need to let me enjoy things.

so wait, since i was just reminded of the recorder thing donna talked about in the giggle, i now have a question for uk ppl: do yall learn the recorder in school? like in a music class? and like how much do yall have music class over there?
#this is a very interesting topic for me as a music educator from the us#ik a guy from ireland and he said there was no music class in schools for him and like not the same country BUT same island#(as northern ireland. not the others in the uk but still)#and its so wild and fascinating music education is a fascinating field and the way we do it in the us seems to be largely vvv unique to us#for clarification on how things are different so ppl have a better idea on how to answer my question lol:#in the us music class is standard in elementary schools and most places have general music until abt 5th/6th grade (year 6/7)#(general music = basics- music games learn recorder SOME notation-reading; often classroom instruments eg boomwhackers claves maracas#orff instruments if you're lucky/from a school district that isnt poor. also some world music)#its less standardized after that and not every school will have music after middle school but concert bands and choirs are both huge here#choirs start right on the heels of general music classes (sometimes start earlier + students elect to be in choir instead of general music)#bands USUALLY start in 4th grade (year 5) but sometimes can be later 5th/6th (year 6/7) or even 7th (year 8) (WAY less common)#depends on the state generally 4th is most common i think (choirs start at around the same time i think so probs 4th but choir isnt my area#orchestras are weird bc theyre a lot less common but can commonly start younger bc of one of the big approaches to music ed (suzuki method)#so like maybe 3rd grade (year 4) maybe 4th w/ band (year 5) but i have a friend who teaches at a private school#& said they have 1st/2nd graders (year 2/3)!! orchestra is also not my area though#also marching bands: vv common! usually just in hs (starting 9th grade / year 10) bc it supports the football team at games#but starting in 8th grade (year 9) is also common (sometimes even 7th / year 8)#theres two different styles: collegiate/show band and competition. former is very rah rah pop music etc; competition is more abstract#show bands are clearly designed to entertain whereas competition is designed to be more impressive and tell a story#so more impact moments abstract shapes/lines on the field and has movements - opener ballad closer (fast-slow-fast)
