What are some books you recommended for research on Norse mythology/polytheism?
Hiya! Thank you for the ask.
I've wanted to do a norse paganism resources masterpost for a while but I unfortunately haven't gotten down to it just yet. First of all, I always recommend beginners to go read the Poetic and Prose eddas, as well as the sagas if they're interested in skaldic writing. The parts of the Poetic Edda I usually recommend first would be the Völuspá and the Hávamál because they're pretty much the basics. The part of the Prose Edda I think is more relevant to beginners would be the Skáldskaparmál because it contains loads of interesting kennings. Now for the main course, I'll just list the books I like most when researching norse myths and paganism.
The Viking Way: Magic and Mind in Late Iron Age Scandinavia
I like that one a lot because it explores not only germanic religion but also the "magical" practices of the time, how they were used and what their importance was to germanic peoples. It's quite thourough & the author's put a lot of effort into making his reader truly understand the mindset that came with germanic paganism.
The Norse Myths by Kevin Crossley-Holland
I know I already mentionned the eddas, but they date way back (≈13th century) and so they get pretty hard to read, especially if you're not used to such a writing style. THIS book is my favorite re-telling. It's extremely compelling and also doesn't build too much around the original stories, just enough for the read to be entertaining.
Norse Mythology: A Guide to Gods, Heroes, Rituals, and Beliefs
I adored this book as a beginner. It is indeed super accessible to people who have just started actively learning about norse myths.
The Road to Hel: A Study of the Conception of the Dead in Old Norse Literature
Exactly what the title says. Probably the most thorough text I've seen when it comes to the ancient germanic perception of death. That book also touches on various pagan beliefs such as spirits, Valkyries and land spirits. It’s based mainly on archeological findings and scholarly research so I’d qualify it as reliable but it is starting to date.
Norse Revival: Transformation of Germanic Neopaganism
You read right, finally a book on actual neo-paganism. Even better: the author is extremely well versed in the topic, having studied it for 30+ years. It’s more of a thoughtful and personal essay than an informative book, but it was a great read, especially the part on the history of Ásatrú. It even encompasses topics such as folkism.
Wights and Ancestors: Heathenry in a Living Landscape
I absolutely adored that one because it gets difficult finding good information on germanic animism online. That book not only talks about spirit and fae work but also explains how to go about it the “heathen” way.

rp guidelines.
Mun is Ash. She/Her. 21+. Ruthless Drama King keeps me prisoner.
This blog is 21+ Nsfw/smut will not be written with those under 21 years old. I will not write with minors.
I know there are a lot of rules here now but incidents, past stuff in rp scene kind of made it mandatory for myself to put down. Common sense lacks in some too so sorry it’s so long but ya know. Gotta do what we rpers gotta do. <3
tw: potential for triggering content & subject matter due to crime scene investigations/forensic profiling. strong language expected. he is simply a problematic aggressive character in most verses.
no godmodding. unspoken rule but please do not control my character under any circumstances. if you continue to break this rule however I may have to cancel our thread. only in extreme cases.
Don’t have personal triggers but I will not write my muse forcing themselves on any other muse.
any personal triggers you are uncomfortable with I will not write and vice versa.
multiverse/oc friendly. au friendly: discussion on AU’s are love. same char different mun friendly. duplicates are always welcome. personally I love OC’s and this boy cannot get enough interaction from them ever. just so you know.
Do not screenshot my posts: ooc, threads etc. It is MY content. I should not have to add this but yes this has happened without my knowledge - at first.
Unfollowing: If there is something you disagree with, do not favor about my writing, portrayal, muse(s) or views the button is always there. Please soft block to unfollow. I will do the same and quietly if it calls for it.
PSA: Don’t call 60 Connor. He is not Connor. He is his own person. This sort of trumps the significance I have built for him as an individual entity in my characterization/ headcanons/ personal iteration in a fandom where he is overlooked. Also if you do refer to him as such verbally to his face you consent to the wrath and animosity he will bestow upon you be it verbal or potentially physical. Trust me 60 is not fond of being mistaken for his predecessor. (It’s a pet peeve and I’m sorry lol but they’re two separate people. I mean I write Connor too so bear with me.)
plots are love. let's discuss story, char relationships, just anything really. down for plotted, random prompts and memes. my dm’s are always open. if I don’t respond straight away I’m either not on at the moment or I’m just swamped in drafts. I still want you to drop in tho.
replies may take a bit. this is a hobby. if I take a while it doesn’t mean I don’t want to rp. sometimes I forget, tumblr eats my notifs or I haven’t thought up a decent reply as of yet. please be patient. I always offer the same to my rp partners. also I do get swamped in drafts and asks so this does contribute to my reply speed. TLDR: I am slow af but I want to write with you.
want to drop a thread? we all lose muse, get too busy, overwhelmed at times. it is perfectly OK. when I do thread purges I will always post an update and @ those I am keeping threads with. the number of follows I have it is just easier for me to do it this way.
shipping: will ship with chars but there are some I may turn down depending on personal preference. typically ships with another RK800/RK900 are a no. sibling, platonic, enemies is where I go. some exceptions may apply depending on verse type but his exclusive and only RK800 ship is with @rob0badge . 60 also would like platonic, friend and enemy ships to counter his romantic ships. any and all are appreciated.
open to smut threads. 21+ very explicit at times depending on verse. 60 is ruthless. fair warning. also smut is not a requirement for romantic ships. if you’re not down for that then 60 is all about the respect of his partner’s wishes.
multiship friendly: winning rk800-60's affection is not easy in the long run. remember he is not easy to get along with.
Shipping Additions: I WILL NOT ship cross unless it is plotted mutually between all parties. even then I will be selective about it. please respect this. multiverse is a thing and that is what my blog is. it will just be ignored.
Content Trigger: 60 is very much ruthless despite his fall into deviancy. if you are uncomfortable with intense personalities this may not be the rp blog for you. certain themes will be highly thematic, problematic and even controversial at times. all of these will be tagged accordingly and put under read more for my followers/mutuals. he will be aggressive and hateful depending on circumstances. he is not very nice. however, the mun does not reflect this characterization and is extremely nice to followers. 60 may not share that affinity but the mun has no malicious intent. Only this ruthless boy does.
threads containing 18/21+ material always go under read more. please adhere to all warnings. some subject matter may be unsettling. remember any dark or triggering themes are NOT condoned by me irl. it just needs to be said.
Interactions: non-rp blogs, personals or those not part of current threads: DO NOT REBLOG. this is becoming a problem lately and I really don’t want to be that person but please follow this rule.If you continue to do so you will be BLOCKED. You can like my posts just fine however. In fact it’s welcome! I like to see others enjoying what I write for the ruthless king.
DBH VERSE REQUIRED: It just works better to be able to write adequately and since my muse is from this universe it’s a given. I rarely do crossovers as I feel some just do not work or fit my muse. If I do they are with main mutuals depending on fandom or personal preference.
Mutual Exclusive/RP Blogs Only: This blog is now private. If you follow me and I do the same back it means I want to interact. Otherwise assume I won’t be following back if I haven’t in a week. I have had some odd things come 60′s way and it is why this blog is locked down now.
Follows: If I follow back it means I want to interact with you. If you're a mutual and you still have not interacted with me after several weeks I WILL unfollow. This is nothing against anyone or meant to be unfair/mean spirited. The blog is an rp blog so of course I want to interact with you all. Also I do not just give free follows since this is not a personal blog.
I would love to follow back depending but if I see no rules or somewhere that states 21 and above for the mun on your blog I won’t. I interact solely with those 21+. I myself am 28 years old. Respect this and don’t lie about your age to me. I have had people lie to me in the past and they’ve been dropped faster then you can shout “Deviant Spotted!”
I reserve the right to unfollow anyone for whatever reason including but not limited to rp politics. Ya gurl not here for rp snobbery or assumptions made. If I become uncomfortable I will soft block to unfollow quietly. I also practice block back. Meaning if I’m hardblocked (which is in anyone’s right who is uncomfortable with my content) I will hardblock back. It’s only fair and honestly it’s a lovely page taken out of one of my waifu’s books.
OOC: If you post a crap ton of ooc posts (I mean plz it’s your blog and your content is yours so go for it) I may unfollow if I cannot blacklist them properly. I mean things that aren’t rp related. This is only in extreme cases. My blog has overwhelmed me so the dash being flooded is something I want to clean up.
Replies: As I have stated in updates on this blog I am super busy and backed up. My reply speed is slower due to lots of drafts and asks. You can remind me but please don’t come at me or try to push me. Muse can be fickle. Some days I have it for a specific verse, others I have it for shorter convos or text threads. I aim to reply to everyone but keep in mind running this blog is not easy and I want it be fun for me. It’s a hobby.  When I have to worry and hide from people this is no longer that. If it continues I will drop the thread completely. Only in extreme cases.
Pressuring: Do not come into my inbox on anon passive aggressively asking when I will reply to threads. If you honestly want to remind me like a normal person my dms are open to mutuals only. Do not guilt me into rping. If you pressure and attempt manipulating me you will be blocked. This has happened and I will not put up with it.
Please reblog any memes/prompts from the source and not this blog. I am not an rp source or creator of these. If you continue to do this and just harvest my blog for memes without even interacting I will unfollow/block. If you reblog send me one then. If not well do not do it. non-mutuals do not reblog anything at all from this blog. Also I  have to mention some people have used me as a source WITHOUT reblogging from me. Meaning they see the meme and reblog it for themselves as a means of bypassing sending in anything. If we’re mutuals why are you doing this? It will just make me think you do not want to interact.
Asks: Do not reblog asks. Please if you wish to continue make a new post and link back to ask. It just makes my dash a little cleaner and I want to avoid extra asks in the inbox continuing it when we can turn them into convo threads. So please don’t keep sending asks to continue a plot line. Thread it.
IMPORTANT NOTE ABOUT HATE & ASSUMPTIONS: If I discover you sending hate on anon to anybody you’re gone. If you send hate to people about what they ship, especially to female muns/muses, you’re gone. I will not tolerate hate of any kind and if I see you talking negatively about any female muse I will soft block you quietly. I just do not want to interact with you. People who assume generalized posts are about them when I follow you will be softblocked as well. Honestly it’s a given that if I’m following it’s not directed at you. I will not put up with assumptions or continue to view it on my dash. Unfollow me, softblock me, etc. It’s not difficult. My comfort levels are important to me as well as yours should be.
I will not  interact with egoists. If I see anything that wigs me out I will just softblock quietly. Elitists go home. I don’t want you here.
I will never rush or be pushy at my partners. I’m so chill about threads. please take your time. let’s never take the fun out of it. never think you’re taking too long or bothering me. DM’s are open to my mutuals only.
I do not do passwords or send messages of any kind. If I am following you rest assured that I have read your rules. I do this automatically when someone follows me and vice versa since I expect the same. If I’m liking update posts you can consider that me seeing it as well.
unfollowing/refollowing: Don’t do it on my blog. If you follow and then unfollow but for some reason come back to follow you get blocked from my side. I don’t need the bs or the attention seeking.
Duplicates are amazing but I will be selective who I follow back and interact with. Nothing personal but I have been the victim of theft in the past. It’s an unfortunate thing but my characterization and headcanons for 60 are my own. I have been writing this boy forever even long before I made this blog. I’m highly protective of my ruthless king. He is my baby after all.
softblocks: I remove people by doing this. It could be for any reason to be honest. We never interact, you keep dropping our stuff, show no interest, I don’t see us interacting after all or any number of reasons to make my dash more comfortable. Do not ask me why I did it. That’s my comfort. No hard feelings. Just move on. I don’t have to cater to you. If you don’t like my methods use the unfollow button and leave my blog. Simple enough.
hardbocking/blacklisting: Yes I have done it. Am I going to blatantly broadcast it for all to see? Nope. I am not obligated to explain why I blocked you. Most times you have broken my rules despite me reminding to read them. Other times there are people I just do not want to see and that is my right not to see them. Same goes for you. Block me if you do not like what you see. I will not censor myself, my writing or who I interact with.
ostracizing people in the rpc: If you don’t like who I am interacting with use your blacklist function. NEVER tell me not to interact with them. If I find out you practice this exclusion tactic on others in the rpc I will purge you off my blog no questions or explanation needed. I totally get it. There are people I don’t like. No one is going to like everyone but do you see me telling others NOT to write with them? Hell no because I know for a fact they have done it to me and others love to listen without all sides to a story.
I also drop people who vague in public servers because it’s straight up childish behavior. I also will not follow or interact with anyone who guilt trips, suicide baits or lies with a pity party song and dance. When you’re found out to be lying or telling other people not to interact with somebody in this RPC I want nothing to do with you. Move on. That’s it.
Drop a like if you made it this far. Whew! No passwords needed. Even if you don’t drop a like it won’t prevent me interacting it’s just nice to see.

Whooo-WEE here we go, thank you!  Get ready for VERY VERY LONG Rambling!
SATINE
(5) Cleanliness habits: Oh, she’s a total neat freak.  Everything in her office is minimalist style and organized to a T.  If someone moved something even an inch, she’ll be hounding everyone about who was messing with her stuff.  Constantly washing hands, very clean, doesn’t like dust on stuff at all (has a bit of a dust allergy, actually.  Lily pollen getting everywhere is a Problem for her).  She’s practical, however, and if she HAS to get down and dirty, she will-- of course not without a suitable amount of icky faces made plus a side of complaints xD
(6) Eating habits and sample daily menu: Ok so we’ve got canon showing her eating meat, but don’t tell me Super Pacifism Lady wouldn’t IRL be that one ubervegan friend of yours on Facebook who’s constantly posting weird things about it and you gotta be like “aight Katie chill”.  ANYWAY, so I’d say Satine in canon eats healthy-ish?  She’s not the biggest fan of breakfast foods and is always up in the morning doing stuff, so she sometimes forgets to have anything besides black coffee.  She’s not a particularly picky eater so she’ll eat whatever the cook is serving that day, but she prefers simpler meals, and can cook for herself (which came in handy during the Year On The Run because neither Obi Wan nor Qui Gon can cook for shit (my canon is no one in that line besides Anakin can cook and I’ll die with it) and eventually Satine was like “guys, I’m sorry, but no, u can’t try and protect me and then poison me at dinnertime.  I’ll cook”).  She does like to pair her evening meals with whatever drink she’s having that night.  I also h/c her as a functioning alcoholic, so she’s always got SOMETHING to drink, but she is trying to work on restraint and control because when she was younger it got... Not Good at one point.  She also has a sweet tooth though, and she really likes chocolate!
(7) Fave way to waste time and feelings surrounding wasting time: Satine is a... twitchy.... individual with a stressful job, so she is kinda conditioned into stressing the heck out if she’s got too much free time.  Therefore, a lot of her free time is spent trying to relax.  Cleaning is theraputic for her, so she does clean (yes, there is a cleaning droid but it is nOT GOOD ENOUGH) when she can.  She likes that Mando sword box game we saw Sabine and Fenn Rau playing in Rebels, it clears her head and lets her practice problem solving.  She likes going for walks too.  She’ll sneak down to the kitchens and just make a bunch of sandwiches.  She does enjoy beautiful things, so I’d say shopping for dresses or browsing art galleries is good too.  I also think she’d be the type to read and write poetry, then save bits she likes.
(8) Indulgences: Look, Satine likes Nice Things, ok?  She does consider fancy wardrobe and buying nice paintings a bit of an indulgence, but she adores color so she excuses that as promoting happiness for the people. As so she does a fancy ship and other fancy trinkets around the house. She’s not a huge fan of most people touching her, but she allowed a massage once... she would be amendable to perhaps another in the future.........  Scented candles are nice too, clears the head.  She refuses to consider chocolate an indulgence because it is obviously the gods’ gift to humanity, excuse you.  Are we calling lusting over her secret forbidden boyfriend an indulgence????
(28) Who is their best friend?  Their worst enemy?  The sad thing about Satine Kryze is that canon wise, she is extremely lonely.  Literally everyone she trusts betrays her at some point-- which also makes worst enemy pretty hard too.  In my verse, this has led to her kind of shutting away from friends because people always leave her-- though I’d say she’s always been close with Padmé; she sent aid to Naboo after the Federation Blockade and got to know and became extremely impressed with the young Queen, and they kept in touch afterwards.  Whether they could be together or not, I’d always say Obi Wan was her best friend too because that’s ALWAYS necessary in a relationship, and they clearly stayed in contact and knew each other like the back of their hands.  I’d honestly say her worst enemy is herself, cliché as it is, because girlie makes a LOT of mistakes-- and then never learns from them or even acknowledges they exist besides an “oh whoops, that happened, we fixed it, everyone as you were”.  I get it wasn’t meant that way, but she legit committed ethnic cleansing against her political opponents.  I hate to say it, but there are very valid reasons for a lot of people to Not Like Her (none of the guys who attack her on the show count because they’re literally all douchecanoes fuck them), and she kind of shoots herself in the foot trying to fix the problem but making it worse.  I h/c her as having a lot of self-loathing problems because she is trying to fix things but nothing ever works and that must be her problem so she must try harder without ever confronting what exactly her problem is.
(31) Most prized possession: Woah, never really thought of that.  As much as I want to say “pressed flower from Obi Wan”, that’s a little too sappy.  I’m going to go with this.  There is a famous Mandalore version of The Art of War, and Satine has an uber-extremely-rare first edition copy given to her from her father, who was a master strategist and had the wealth and power to collect nice things like that.  Satine may be a pacifist, but she has her family’s warrior’s spirit, and she enjoys adapting the book’s battle strategies to her own political fights and how she shapes her own life.  It’s an actual old paper book, so she keeps it in a locked box under her bed and only ever reads it by candlelight with special gloves on to protect the pages.
(42) Hobbies: Like I said before, cleaning, writing poetry, the occasional cooking.  Oh!  Whenever she has Korkie over, she lets them pick the activity they do.  This may or may not lead to Duchess Satine Kryze of Mandalore getting very invested in Space Mario Kart.  She’s good at it too!  So yes, gamer girl, and she also likes looking at art and she’s also also pretty good at dancing and yoga, which she does a bit of both for exercise.  She also enjoys watching shows at the theater, but she’s weird in the way where she refuses to watch TV or movies because they’re “not as good”.
(47) If they were to fall in love, who or what is their ideal:  I’d say trust is the most important thing for her, given how many things go wrong in her life.  Someone she can trust to be herself around instead of The Duchess and can both support her when she’s falling but also call her on her bullshit (or try to, anyway) when needed.  Again, she likes nice things, so she tends to fall for super attractive people lol.  Another thing is, she likes to feel safe.  She goes for the protectors, those who fight for everyone and can come back and hold her tight in a hug if she feels like she’ll fall apart because she sometimes needs someone to protect her too.  They also have to be as smart as she is (only smarter if they’re not a dick about it) so she can have intellectual conversations (indignant yelling matches), and she needs someone who can match the firecracker she can tend to be, someone who can jump right in after her.  Not a weakling, basically xD
(48) How do they express love: She just says it (”I love you”), if they’ll let her.  If they don’t let her or she can’t for some reason (*coughOBIcoughcough*), she becomes frustrated because she isn’t always the best, emotion-wise, and she worries she’ll make the wrong gesture or do something to mess up, so frustration can build towards the other person so she can also be very snappy at them.  In general though, familial or romantic or platonic, it’s just lots of soft smiles that no one else sees, letting them see her in casual clothing, teasing them or telling jokes, trusting them enough to tell them about the confusion and stress inside her head.
OBI WAN
(7) Fave way to waste time and feelings surrounding wasting time:  Obi Wan is of the opinion that time enjoyed is never wasted, so he only views wasted time as exactly that: time that could be spent doing something but is instead being wasted not doing anything or doing something he doesn’t like.  His favorite things to do when he has time to himself are read (he’s not picky, he’ll read most things with an interesting plot, though he does enjoy a good mystery or historical nonfiction), watch trashy tv shows (he’s only watching them to judge how bad they are, it’s Anakin’s fault, really, he watched them first, and Obi Wan just needs to know what happens next--), sketch random objects (he’s a pretty good artist, and it’s relaxing), do research on stuff because he is a NERD, go bug Anakin and/or Ahsoka because he honestly delights just sitting in their company and hear them talk about their day, drink with friends, spar (with Anakin, preferably, he’s the most of a challenge because he knows him so well, and he’s the only one who doesn’t hold back at all), sit in the Temple gardens and check on Qui Gon’s favorite flowers he planted there and bask in the serenity of it all.
(8) Indulgences: Ooooohhhh this is hard because Obi Wan is so Obi Wan about that sort of stuff, it can be difficult to read what he would do xD  I’ll say he indulges in food?  That while Jedi probs have a pretty strict health food diet, on the weekends or once a weekday he indulges in getting nice stuff for breakfast, ice cream for dessert, fried food at Dex’s because why not, it tastes good and Anakin did a good job today or he did a good job today and that deserves something, so oh well, he’ll just work out harder tomorrow.  He’s also has some very nice old teas he saved from Qui Gon The Absolute Tea Snob he’ll have when he feels he needs it, and he’s got a cabinet with like four bottles of different really good, expensive alcohols that he’ll drink when he REALLY feels he needs it.  I’ll also say this, boi is vain about his hair.  Will never admit it in a million years, but he is, so he’s probs got at least some sort of haircare products that aren’t exactly necessary, ya know xD.  He also does like his creature comforts when available, so I’d say he’s got a couple super fluffy blankets and maybe the thread count in his sheets are a bit higher than average cuz hey, soft things are nice.  He also indulges in being lovey and mushy to the people he cares about
(12) Favorite book genre: Hey, I kinda talked about that!  So yeah, I’d say he’ll probs try anything, but he likes mysteries and thrillers since with a book the Force can’t give you any Bad Feelings about anyone, so the surprises are genuine surprises.  He also likes historical nonfiction because he is a NERD, but he’ll absolutely pick up whatever’s at the top of the Galactic Times Bestseller’s List if it’s there and give it a chance
(14) Physical abnormalities (including injuries/disabilities, illnesses, allergies): His right hip acts up in the cold from an old slug wound there (Anakin does indeed tease him about being an old man), over half of his teeth are fake or replaced because come on, have y’all seen how often he’s been hit in the face?  Scars literally everywhere because everyone and everything has tried to murder him at some point or another.  I h/c him with ADD, depression, anxiety, and dyscalcula (he had to really work to be good with numbers) as well as PTSD because basically all of the Jedi do at some point (someone HELP THEM).  He also has TMJ, which I also have and I project my issues.  It gets worse when you’re stressed and grind teeth, so it’s valid.  Idk whether it’s canon or fanon that he has some food allergies, but I am ALL FOR IT with him just... forgetting about them???  And then eating some food and be like “hwoops I’m dying lol” while Anakin is like seriously Master again? and legit ends up the Mom friend with a list of foods like “is there gonna be this food in it?  Cuz he can’t eat it” and then he’ll eat it anyway cuz it looks good and Anakin is all “what do you have in your MOUTH” and he’ll be like “uh” and yeah, that sounds funny
(27) Biggest regret: WHY WOULD YOU DO THIS.  ok so we all know how literally everything about Obi Wan’s life is a mcfreaking nightmare.  We ALSO know he blames himself for literally everything.  So yea, he’s got a looooot of regrets.  I’d say his biggest though is not being a good enough Jedi (in his opinion) to save those he cared about (Qui, Satine, Anakin, Pads, the entire dang Jedi Order, etc.).  Maybe just not a good enough person, in his eyes.  If he hadn’t screwed up somehow, everyone would still be here and fine and omg someone help him
(31) Most prized possession: Luke Skywalker.  Ok, not actually, but y’all can’t deny Luke was Obi Wan’s greatest treasure.  I’d say actually tho it’s holos, of people he loves and cares about, in a kind of album he keeps to himself.  He hates having his own picture taken, but he loves seeing the smiling, laughing faces of everyone he knows (and is reminded of them when they’re no longer here).
(33) Concept of home and family: He always feels like other people overcomplicate this.  Home is where you feel safe to always return, where you belong, and family is those you love and wish to spend your life with.  Now, the fact that he only really allows himself to acknowledge the Jedi as a whole as his family and doesn’t exactly allow himself to dwell on specifics like what Anakin means exactly to him, what Ahsoka means, what Qui Gon meant, because he does love everyone as a family, why does he have to define it?  That’s a whole ‘nother basket of his issues lol
(47) If they were to fall in love, who or what is their ideal:  Obi Wan Kenobi has always been attracted to chaos and danger like a moth to a flame, so anyone he loves is gonna be a whirlwind of an individual.  He likes someone who can challenge him, who can test him.  He likes someone who’s loud and bright, the stars at the center of solar systems that everyone else can’t resist orbiting around and Obi Wan is no different.  He likes snappy humor and the amusement he can get from playfully bugging them into hissing at him.  They have to match him as a team, they have to be able to work with him (and he knows he’s not always the easiest to work with) and have his back.  He likes passion, he likes dramatics, he likes the kind of strange ones that other people find a bit hard to get along with, but he couldn’t love them any different from themselves.
(48) How do they express love:
PADMÉ
(4) What would they do if they needed to make dinner but the kitchen was busy:  Assuming the people in the kitchen were not making food, Padmé would fix them with a firm Senatorial Scolding Face and ask them politely if they could move it somewhere else.  She can easily outargue any protests;  the kitchen is for cooking and she needs to make dinner!  If ppl were making food in the kitchen, Pads would roll up her sleeves and ask what she could do to help so it would be done faster and she could get started.  She grew up with her mother insisting her and Sola help out with all the household chores, kitchen duty included, so she’s a fine cook.  Anakin learned to cook from his mother too, so sometimes their husband/wife bonding time will include just making dinner together and enjoying each others’ company.  In an OT4 situation with Obes and Satine, Obi Wan is the only one out of the four of them who Cannot Cook and is legit banished from the kitchen except for making drinks/certain desserts, so it ends up with Anakin, Padmé, and Satine all talking and laughing while preparing food while Obi Wan pouts sits in the doorway and talks from there
(6) Eating habits and sample daily menu:  Ok, so you know how I said Satine can sometimes get distracted by work and skip breakfast?  Well Padmé is like that but worse.  She gets so busy with duties, she just forgets to eat for very long periods of time, and then she’ll be doing something and be like “woah, I’m hungry, I don’t think I’ve eaten today,” and Sabé/Anakin/Bail/whoever she’s with will just be like padmé nO.  When she does eat, however, she is one of those crazy people who Does Not Like Sweets.  Like, at all, they just don’t agree with her.  Anakin is scandalized.  Satine is scandalized.  Everyone is.  She just doesn’t like them.  She’ll eat fruit, but that’s as sweet as it gets.  So when she does remember to eat, or if she’s going out for a dinner, it’s usually something pretty healthy-- though Pads will confess to a weakness for nice cheeses.  There’s also this one really greasy bad fried chip thing that she’s got a secret weakness for.  Padmé’s also not a huge alcohol person; like, she’ll drink when others do, she’s not a lightweight or anything, but she won’t seek it out herself, just, something about the taste, and she doesn’t like not being in control of her head.
(7) Fave way to waste time and feelings surrounding wasting time: Honey, Padmé is from Naboo.  The luxury planet.  They know how to lazily waste time in style.  She loves long baths and listening to classical music, walking in nature (she loves flowers), practicing new hair styles, facials and manicures.  She also reads the gossip columns (no she doesn’t, you never heard that) because she needs the tea.  She just do.  She likes to read and study new languages (because she is Queen Overachiever) or just add to her bucket list of Ways To Improve The Galaxy.  Padmé totally has a Space Pinterest.  In reality, she trained herself from a young age how to relax so being a teenager in planetary politics didn’t literally kill her.
(12) Favorite book genre: ROMANCE!  It’s canon that Pads is just such an ushy, gushy romantic of a person, so she likes stuff like Space Jane Austen and all the other romantic books.  She refuses to associate with Anakin’s trashy dollar romances, she thinks they’re bad writing.  He does not agree.  He also called one of her faves boring once.  They do not discuss books.  But also Padmé likes political history and civilization books cuz politician, and she’s pretty into the mysteries like Obi Wan is.  She likes religious texts too, learning about different ones, she finds it interesting.  Reading can be hard for her because I h/c her as dyslexic, but she loves it too much.
(18) Favorite beverage: Spiced cider.  She could get it homemade back on Naboo; cool and refreshing when iced but warm and tangy and perfect when heated.
(19) What do they think about before falling asleep at night: If Anakin’s not with her, she always thinks about him not being there.  She can’t help it.  If he is with her, she thinks about how much she loves him.  She also tends to do a mental to do list every night of what she needed to do before bed and if she’s gonna allow herself to sleep now or not.  She also has another mental to do list so she knows what she’s gonna do when she wakes up in the morning.  With the damned war dragging on, more and more nights are spent going to bed troubled and worried for the future. She also daydreams, though, of what she can do after.  Her happily ever after.
(28) Who is their best friend?  Their worst enemy?:  This is hard because Pads is so friendly with everyone!!!  Queen’s Shadow really made me fall in love with Padmé and Sabé, but I’ll always be a sucker for the canon and fanon where Padmé’s best friend is Bail Organa.  I’m sorry, but Bail is just a cinnamon roll of a human being, and he’s such a calm, levelheaded friend for Pads where she can be a bit overeager and chomping at the bit sometimes, but he’s also ALWAYS got her back and she can talk to him about stuff and ahhhhh and he literally raises her daughter as his own and gahhhhhh.  Is it messed up if I almost want to say Padmé’s worst enemy is Anakin?  I mean to be more general: her worst enemy is the Sith, as they destroyed the Republic and her entire life’s work and corrupted her husband and depending on if you believe the “draining life forces” theory (which I do) they killed her.  But Anakin was the one who got past her defences, took her by surprise, and unknowingly ended up playing the most active role in her destruction, which is immensely tragic for both of them because all he ever wanted to do was love her (*crying*).
(33) Concept of home and family:  For Padmé, home isn’t so much a place, but an idea of where you can feel closest and most at one with those you’ve decided to share your life with.  Yeah, she’ll always love Naboo, but you saw how choked up she got in that TCW episode where Anakin called her Coruscant apartment “home”; for her, home is a state of mind.  Family is a bit different; she’ll always have a bit of an idealization towards her own parents’ marriage and how she’s seen Sola’s, and how families developed from that.  Canon shows she’s envious because she can’t have that, the 2.5 kids and a dog with a white picket fence outside and a large backyard mentality.  She has issues over being separated from family; she had to drop the Naberrie name to go into politics, so I’m guessing there’s some distance felt there, and she can’t even publicly acknowledge her own husband as her husband, so she’ll cling to the idea of a “perfect” family as a someday, as a maybe, and working towards that someday and the long goal she can forget just how complicated and messy her real family-- her parents and sister, her husband, her husband’s new adoptive sister, her husband’s boyfriend, his weird side of the family --is.  It’s even more pronounced when everything is falling apart in Revenge of the Sith and it’s obviously falling apart and Anakin is obviously Not Fine, she tries to retreat and take her comfort in “oh but when the baby comes and we can be a Family, things will all work out perfect!  It’ll be okay!!!”
(34) Thoughts on privacy (are they a private person, or are they prone to TMI):  Padmé is an extremely private person.  She’s been in the public spotlight since she was thirteen years old.  Everyone’s always staring at her, what she’s wearing, what her opinions are, how she acts, who she’s with.  Padmé has nearly nothing she doesn’t have to share with the public eye, so what she does have to herself she tends to hoard and not show anyone except for those she implicitly trusts.  Now, whether she’s any good at keeping secrets is a whole other story, but she certainly tries!!! xD
(39) What recharges them when they’re feeling drained: Anakin can make things better or worse for her depending on the mood he’s in and the mood she’s in, but he usually makes her feel better just by showing up and being a dork.  She likes her greasy chip snacks and a good book, but she’s a sucker for a good spa day complete with fluffy, comfortable clothing.  Also, Padmé loves cat naps, and is the queen of setting an alarm and taking short power naps that actually have her waking up refreshed.
(42) Hobbies:  Is creating new outfit designs via Space Pinterest a hobby?  Because Padmé does that.  Padmé is also the type of person to have a Space Candy Crush problem, and I completely believe that Satine got her into Space Mario Kart (Satine’s actually pretty good at it and Pads isn’t good at it at all, so it’s in no way fair, but they have fun xD).  Padmé loves creating flower arrangements too, just creating beautiful things makes her happy.  She loves calling one of her handmaidens over and having martial arts practices because she needs to stay ready to defend herself, but also it’s just fun and she’s a good fighter.  Padmé’s also into scrapbooking, she makes a bunch of adorable books she puts together, and she gave one to Anakin on their first anniversary and he cried (she hides them, don’t worry).
AHHHNAKIN...
(10) Neuroses:  Hooo boy, there’s a lot!  Okay, so Anakin is a very handsy person.  When he’s nervous or uncomfortable or stressed, he’ll always need something to do with his hands, whether that be fiddling with his clothes, tugging at his hair, messing with the digits on his mechanohand, poking at the wall patterns or other objects.  In general, he hates sitting still and has a tendency to fidget if he has to for too long.  He will also either stare you directly in the eye or dislike making eye contact at all, depending on his mood.  Fiddling with machine parts gives him something to focus his mind and his hands on, so that’s a real big help for him if they’re available, often times he just keeps scraps in his pockets for specifically this purpose.  He’s sort of aware he does this, but he doesn’t like to think about it much because that would mean thinking why, and if you try and point any of them out to him he’ll get embarrassed and probs just snap at you.
(12) Favorite book genre:  Anakin really isn’t much of a book person.  It has to do with his focus issues (I h/c him as ADHD), they just aren’t really able to draw him in enough to keep his attention.  It frustrates him because that’s another reason why ppl imply he isn’t smart, which is dumb, he can read just fine, he just doesn’t like to.  He does like the trashy penny romances I mentioned before.  What can he say?  He’s a sucker for the drama and swooning and Epic Proclamations of Love.  He’ll read books about the latest ships and speeder models too, because he’s interested in that.  He’ll also read tactical strategy books too, because of the war and all.  It’s just not his go-to form of entertainment.
(14) Physical abnormalities (including injuries/disabilities, illnesses, allergies):  Metal hand.  Eye scar.  At one point is one big giant asthmatic burn scar who’s like 80% robot.  But we’ll focus on Anakin as of now.  When he was a child, some brute in the market cracked him hard across the back with something heavy.  It damaged his spine, and Shmi was terrified for a while he’d never walk.  Thankfully, he recovered, but now his spine is funny as in it is super flexible.  Like backbends where it looks like he’s snapped in half, that flexible.  It gives him fantastic advantages in acrobatics and combat, but it also means he can do that creepy walk the girl from The Ring can do.  He has managed to successfully scare the living piss out of Obi Wan, Padmé, Ahsoka, Rex, and multiple others on different occasions by emerging from the shadows in the middle of the night doing the Ring walk.  No one was pleased.  Yoda thinks it’s hilarious though.  Anakin gets hit in the face just as much Obi Wan does, so he also only has like less than half of his real teeth still in his mouth.  Is also covered in various scars from people trying to kill him dead.  In total, I project many mental illnesses onto him, so I say he has anxiety, ADHD, BPD, and PTSD.  His super strongness in the Force means he is a complete lightweight, so alcohol is an uh oh for him; the only positive is that he never gets hangovers.  It also means that Force sensitive objects may suddenly go flying at his head when he’s just trying to casually stroll through a creepy old temple.  I also h/c that Anakin is allergic to tookas/lothcats.  No other animals, just them.  And it’s hilarious when on one occasion some kittens made their way into a briefing room and he just bursts into a sneezing fit, which, why are you all laughing at me? and then Rex points out the little kitten just perched on the top of his head.  Poor baby actually does chafe pretty badly from sand too, so his hatred isn’t completely unwarranted.
(18) Favorite beverage: Coffee with a gazillion lumps of sugar in it, protein powder because he’s all about the grind, a hint of space chili pepper, and like a dozen other ingredients that should Not Go In Coffee (one of the ingredients Is Bugs).  Obi Wan claims he tasted the concoction once and had hallucinations.  Ahsoka says she saw a drop melt the edge of the tabletop.  Padmé won’t go anywhere near it.  Anakin says they’re all cowards; it’s the only thing that can get him up and focused in the morning.
(20) Childhood illnesses?  Any interesting stories behind them?: I h/c that amongst the slaves, Shmi was the local medicine woman.  Therefore, Anakin as a child was constantly getting first exposure to all the local sicknesses and building up immunity, so besides one bout of food poisoning, he never got sick as a kid.  Once he got to the Temple... well, he was past the age where all the other kids had gotten vaccinations, Obi Wan, bless him, hates dealing with medical and was distracted by everything else and kind of forgot to make sure Anakin was up to date with everything, so he caught EVERYTHING.  EVERY LITTLE THING WOULD MAKE HIM SICK.  HE HATED IT.  OBI WAN HATED IT BECAUSE THE ONLY SICK PATIENT WORSE THAN ANAKIN IS HIMSELF.  IT NEVER ENDS.  ANAKIN IS TWENTY TWO YEARS OLD AND STILL CATCHING SHIT LIKE THE SPACE CHICKEN POX.  THIS ISN’T FAIR.
(22) Given a blank piece of paper, a pencil, and nothing to do, what would happen?: Lots of writings of stuff like “Padmé Skywalker” or “Anakin Kenobi” cuz Ani is at heart a 12 year old girl.  Ok ok ok, but actually, there would be lots of different stuff on the page.  Mathematical calculations for ships and designs because he is a canon engineering nerd and I h/c he’s a whiz at math.  Also little doodles.  Anakin’s not a bad artist himself; his style is much more cartoonish than Obi Wan’s, but it means he can do cool little actions scenes of different ships or pods, him being a badass, Yoda getting attacked by space seagulls, etc.  Maybe designs for another japoor carving (I h/c he keeps the hobby).  Or, the page might be folded up as Anakin turned it into either a boat or a hat or an airplane that actually flies, or just a ball of paper he set on fire because he was bored.
(28) Who is their best friend?  Their worst enemy?:  OBI WAN KENOBI FOR BOTH OF THEM DAMMIT ANAKIN WHY ARE YOU LIKE THIS.  Alright, alright, in reality, his worst enemy is probably more of a combination of himself and his own fears, Sidious for being an evil, manipulative asshole, and society for creating his fears and traumatizing him (though mostly it’s himself because he absolutely had the choice to do the right thing, but he didn’t).  Obi Wan is absolutely his best friend though.  No competition.
(29) Reaction to extrapersonal disaster (eg Oh no, the house is on fire!  What do we do?): For Anakin “I burned down the Republic because you left for an afternoon and I panicked” Skywalker?  “Ok, no problem, I got this.  I’ve got this.  No, wait, I don’t got this.  I defiNITELY DO NOT GOT THIS, I MADE IT WORSE, HOLY SHIT, NO ONE PANIC, I NEED AN ADULT-- (Ahsoka: You are an adult) --I NEED AN ADULTIER ADULT.”
(31) Most prized possession: His loved ones ¯\_(ツ)_/¯  And we’ve got at least six movies and a tv show telling us exactly how that did Not Go Well For Anyone
(33) Concept of home and family: Hmmm.  I’d say where he feels safe and comfortable.  Again, it’s stated in the show he feels at home at Padmé’s, but honestly?  He refuses to acknowledge Tatooine cuz ya know, the slavery, so he never really had a strong childhood home, and while I want to say he considered the Temple home at one point, , I’m not sure he does because I feel he’s always on red alert for things to get worse so he never really lets himself get comfortable anywhere-- not even Padmé’s.  Family is a bit easier for him; a group of people who love each other-- and for Anakin, it doesn’t have to be blood relations but if you ARE related by blood, you’re a family member by default and he will be Very Offended by blood relations who cut away from their families because he feels if you’re connected like that, you should love each other.

Trois Allumettes - Chapter 12
Rewrite of MCLUL Episode 14 on Lysander’s route.
—————————————-
“So…” Rosa said with a very unconvincingly calm tone. “Is there anyone in your life?”
She was pretending to play with her mug, while sending quick looks in my direction, an excited glint in her eyes.
“You know it, don’t you?” I asked a little bemused.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about,” she replied nonchalantly.
“Of course you don’t… fine, I’ll play along. Yes, I’m seeing someone.”
“Really?” her surprise was way over the top. “I had no idea!”
“Oh my God” I laughed, “yes Rosa, I’m with Lysander.”
She threw herself in my arms with an excited squeak.
“I knew it! I’m sorry Candy, Lys told Leigh and of course he told me. I’m so happy! I can’t believe it!”
“I almost can’t believe it either,” I smiled massaging my aching ribs, “he’s so…”
“Oh yes, Lys-baby is great, but you’re a catch! You’re perfect for each other. I can’t believe we’re going to be a family, not only best-friends but sisters!”
“Woooooow hold your horses Rosa, we just started dating. And, well…” a wave of sadness suddenly run over me.
“What?”
“He said he’s going back to the farm at the end of the year,” I replied dejected. “How can he do this, Rosa? I would understand, even support him, if this was his dream, but it clearly isn’t.”
“Oh…” Rosa sighed annoyed, “I adore Lysander like my own brother, I swear, but he can really be a stubborn idiot.”
“I don’t know what to think, he seems to really care about his parents and…”
“Yes, who are both dead. He wasted enough years over there, it was amazing of him but it’s time to let the place go, Leigh and I keep telling him.”
“He feels guilty…” I said tentatively.
“And he shouldn’t, like their death was his fault. Look, you never met Josiane and George, they were terrific people, super-kind, you could really tell were our boys got their good nature from, it broke my heart when they died, but… and there’s no way around it, they were old. There’s no mysterious reason or preventable accident behind their death. Lys keeps blaming himself for something that has nothing to do with him.”
“I thought as much,” I said, unsure if her words were making me feel relieved or even more depressed.
“This is also another reason why I’m so happy he’s with you. Maybe now he will finally throw away this ridiculous idea of going back to take care of the farm, something he has hated doing his whole life.”
“I wish, but he is pretty set on that, he’s there right now.”
“Yeah, I know. The neighbour who has been taking care of things this past year had to leave for some business and there was no one else to cover for him. Leigh went with him to give him a hand, but he’s coming back this evening. Actually,” she added a little embarrassed, “there is another reason why I wanted to talk to you…”
She told me about wanting to go back to the beach house that weekend and needing some moral support. She even suggested bringing Lys with us, so it would become a sort of double date, saying it would help her take her mind off gloomy thoughts.
I was happy to go with her anyway, but really hoped Lysander would be back in town by then.
I missed him.
————————————-
He hadn’t been able to come back.
I spent the day with Rosa and Leigh at the beach, it felt bittersweet, I was happy to be with my friend and help her out in a difficult and painful moment, but I missed Lys like crazy.
“Come on, smile and say: ‘surprise!’” Rosa said pointing her camera towards me.
“Surprise?” I asked confused.
“Surprise!” a familiar voice said from behind my back.
“W-what?! Lys!” I cried out shocked, but instantly jumped in his arms hugging him tight.
They explained that Rosa had organised this surprise for me, Leigh had gone back to the farm for a day to help Lys out so that he’d have a chance to come to the beach in time. She’d even reserved the beautiful lounge area of the beach so that we could have the whole place to ourselves. I wasn’t sure of the legality of that, but when I saw her and Leigh leave to give us some space and enjoy the evening alone, I couldn’t help but feeling extremely grateful to my friend.
“I’m so happy you’re here,” I said to Lys when we both sat on the cushions, my head resting on his shoulder, his arm around mine.
“You don’t know how much I missed you this week, Candy. I’m so sorry I had to leave… I’m so sorry I will have to…”
“Shhh…” I put my fingers on his lips, “let’s not talk about this now, I just want to enjoy being in your arms for a while.”
“Well… wouldn’t you prefer eating something before? I brought some food with me…”
“Food?” I raised my head interested.
“Yes,” he chuckled, fishing a bag hidden under some blankets. “Coming from my favourite restaurant close by, I really wanted you to try it out.”
There were calamari and fish skewers, everything looked fresh and tasted incredibly good.
We spent good part of the evening just chatting and eating, it felt so simple and natural to be there with him, sharing a moment like that, in a beautiful setting, eating good food.
After we were done eating, we lied down on the blankets, my head resting on his chest, his arm tight around me, holding me close.
“The stars are so shiny here, we barely can see them from the city,” I said playing absentmindedly with his long cravat.
“You should see what they look like from the farm,” he replied, “in the empty fields there’s not a single electric light for acres, the stars are so bright you don’t even need a torch to walk around. And you can see all the constellations.”
He paused for a moment, then added, “my father used to teach me to recognise them all, when I was a child. It was one of the only few things I liked doing there.”
I didn’t know what to say, a small lump in my throat.
“Look, that’s Leo.”
“Where?”
“There,” he said taking my hand, pointing my finger we drew shapes in the sky. I’d never been particularly interested to astronomy but, in that moment, it felt like we were getting even closer, sharing something that had been so important for him growing up.
“I hope you’re not too tired,” Lys said after a while, “there’s one last surprise.”
“Really?” I exclaimed excited, “I’m not tired at all.”
He got up and offered me his hand to help me do the same, “I’m happy you like surprises.”
“I love surprises,” I replied, a big smile on my face.
We walked for a few minutes along the shore, then he took my hand and guided me farther from the sea, to a small wooden cabin.
“That’s…” I said surprised.
“Yes, that’s the shed where we took refuge during the storm last time we were here.”
“I can’t believe you remember that.”
“Of course I do, I know I have a terrible memory and constantly lose my things everywhere, but I could never forget even a single moment spent with you.”
My heart skipped a beat at those words, “I guess it would be difficult to forget how cheeky I was, asking to see your tattoo.”
He chuckled a little, “that too.”
Opening the door we found ourselves in a narrow, dark space, much different than the one I remembered. All the fishing equipment had disappeared, making space for a small table with two seats made of crates covered by a tablecloth.
“I thought we could have dessert here,” he said, and I felt moved knowing that place had meant something for him too. He must have come earlier just to clean it up.
Two chocolate-covered desserts were waiting for us. We both took seat, but it was kinda dark and difficult to properly see anything.
I noticed Lys looking around the place, patting his pockets and setting something small on the table. He kept looking for something else for a few minutes, then he turned to me sounding dejected.
“I did forget something after all. We don’t have any candles.”
“Never mind,” I said feeling out for his hand on the table, “I love it anyway, it’s incredibly romantic, thank you Lys.”
“There’s no way we can eat, or even see anything, without a candle. And my phone is dead.”
I found the small object he had placed on the table, it was a matching box. I opened it and lighted one. In the small light offered by the match I could see the sad expression on his beautiful face. He thought he had ruined the night, having forgotten something he felt was important for the success of the surprise.
How wrong he was.
“Here is my ghost,” I said smiling, “this actually reminds me of something. The day after I saw you for the first time or, well, you saw me running away scared, I came back to look for clues.”
“Really?” he said entertained, “did you find anything?”
“Just a page, now I know it must have probably slipped from your notebook. There was a poem written on it, something about matches.”
“Trois Allumettes.”
“Yes, that was the title.”
He nodded, “the official title is actually Paris at Night, a poem from Jaques Prevert, sometimes I like to write down some of my favourite ones, for inspiration.”
“I don’t remember it, I thought it was pretty though.”
He reached my hand, that was still holding the match, and turned it off with one blow.
We fell in complete darkness, it hadn’t seemed as dark before, but now it was impossible to see almost anything. In any other situation I would have felt nervous, but there, alone with him, I was excited.
Then I heard his voice, his deep but soft voice. He lighted another match and started reciting those verses I’d read only once, so many months ago.
Trois allumettes une à une allumées dans la nuit
Three matches one by one lit in the night
La première pour voir ton visage tout entire
The first to see your whole face
He came closer to me and I could clearly see his beautiful face, and those amazing unsettling eyes.
La seconde pour voir tes yeux
The second to see your eyes
I looked at him completely fascinated.
La dernière pour voir ta bouche
The last one to see your mouth
Tumblr media
He blew out the match.
Et l’obscurité tout entière pour me rappeler tout cela
En te serrant dans mes bras.
And all the darkness to remind me of all these
As I hold you in my arms.
And in that moment, right there in the darkness, his hot breath on my skin, no matter what happened I knew I would never be able to let go of him.
Raising on my tiptoes, I put my lips on his.

Back to Chapter 11
Go to Chapter 13
Thank you to the amazing @pandacapuccino for her incredible art. Go take a look at her tumblr page, she is crazy talented.
And now I’m in love with Lys all over again.
I’d appreciate comments on this chapter, I’d been planning this scene since the beginning and it gives the title to the whole fic. Here Candy falls completely in love with Lys and understands she won’t be able to separate from him at the end of the year. I felt that in this latest episode (14) this scene worked well. What do you think?

{ Laws of the Land: }
Please read these before interacting. (:
My blog is PRIVATE. Typically I prefer to write with MUTUALS ONLY but I am currently open to NEW INTERACTIONS. I usually write && talk with someone OOC for a while BEFORE FOLLOWING to make sure we vibe.
I’m HIGHLY SELECTIVE with PARTNERS/FOLLOWS. I’m trying maintain a cleaner dash this time around. sidenote: When choosing partners: Literacy is a thing. I understand typos but basic spelling and grammar are easier to manage than trying to mentally fix things as I go. I DO understand language barriers. But BOTTOM LINE: If I can’t understand what just happened in your post, I can’t reply adequately because I have nothing to go from. I also prefer people who are dedicated and interested in writing detailed plots. Moving the story along.
By stating that I am PRIVATE: I reserve the right to work on the things that speak to me the most at any given time. I’ve had a lot of stress this year && this is a coping thing for me. I will write what I have MUSE for. Typically I will NOT start something unless I know I have MUSE for it to avoid dropping THREADS && INTERACTIONS. I’m simply focusing on things that I have the most juice for. sidenote: This means that while I have a ridiculous number MUSES && VERSES, I’ll be sticking pretty close to my MOST ACTIVE LIST unless we have heavily established PLOTS && CONNECTIONS OR I have explicitly offered to give you a MUSE OR VERSE that is NOT on the MOST ACTIVE LIST. I post this list regularly, it’s easy to find on my blog.
My blog is currently on LOW ACTIVITY temporarily. There are a lot of things going on in my life right now. I am trying to be on as much as possible. However, I won’t be here 24/7, nor am I obligated to THREAD/POST/TALK all the time. It is not personal. I was just diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis && have existing severe mental illness. Some days just suck.
IMPORTANT: I have roughly 230 muses, 40+ verses, my blog is ALWAYS under construction. These projects are my passion, that’s why I have them. Don’t be a jerk and tell me maybe I should cut back. I operate how I operate.
My writing is PG-13 to Mature. It’s not always this way but violence, explicit language, substance use, etc. happen here. NSFW of all kinds. I’m 28 and will only write with adult partners. So 18+ only on this blog. IMPORTANT: I will NOT write SMUT with others. It may happen occasionally in drabbles I write. But not in threads. I don’t mind sexual references, headcanons, jokes, etc. But no threading with NSFW language. Fade to black for me.
The length of my writing tends to fluctuate. Para to multi-para mostly. You do NOT have to match me because sometimes I might not completely match you. Just how it is.  Sidenote: Do NOT give me one or two sentences if I gave you a solid paragraph. It makes it really difficult to adequately reply. I might write a one liner starter, but it will ALWAYS grow.
On the topic of ORIGINAL VERSES && MY POST SERIES FANDOM VERSES: I welcome anyone to take part in my ORIGINAL VERSES or my POST SERIES FANDOM VERSES. PLEASE DO, that’s why I created them. However, do NOT steal my verses or post series for your plots. I work extremely hard to WORLD BUILD and develop these complex plotlines. DO NOT STEAL THEM && certainly DO NOT TAKE CREDIT FOR THEM. I do not mind if you and another person involved in that verse or post series with me write for the verse or plot but do NOT just openly steal them && start writing them with other people I don’t even know. I work my ass off for this stuff. Don’t be gross.
GRAPHICS IN THREADS: I use ICONS &&GIF ICONS. They keep it cleaner looking && more accessible. IMPORTANT: I have a very large number of UNDERUSED FACECLAIMS. For this reason, DRY POSTING WILL BE A THING. I’m working to make resources, but it takes time. IMPORTANT: I AM HERE FOR THE WRITING NOT THE GRAPHICS. I should already know what your muse looks like if I’ve seen a picture and likewise, you can find pictures of mine. NOTE: If my muse has no resources, I will post a pre-designed icon of them at the beginning of the thread so you know what they look like. After which it will be dry threading.
I would hope that you would have ideas of your own. It works much better if we can feed off of each other and really go back and forth with plots than things being one sided. Sadly, this has happened to me a lot. Sidenote: We don’t have to come up with something first but it would be nice if there was an idea. However, I won’t ever turn away an intriguing starter with no back story. Though, I might ask questions to make my reply as accurate as possible.
DO NOT GODMOD. I should be the only one controlling my character. I really hate when people assume they know my character and get them all wrong. Or even insinuate some prior history I never agreed to. Sounds ridiculous? It’s happened. If there’s a time it’s needed, shoot me an IM. I’m totally good with that.
I’m EXTREMELY SELECTIVE when it comes to ROMANTIC SHIPPING. I’ve been burned way too many times. My muses are my babies. If they aren’t feeling it. I am not going to force it on them. You can find ALL of my MUSES romantic preferences on my MUSE DIRECTORIES including if they’re romantic shippable or not. I have several who are CLOSED. Chemisty. Chemistry. Chemistry.
IMPORTANT: I AM NOT HERE JUST TO ROMANTIC SHIP. I’m tired of only ever heterosexual romantic shipping– especially with my MALES. Come to me with bromance, familial, platonic, or enemy. I’m always looking for new connections to my muses. It helps them grow as people.
IMPORTANT: I heavily prefer LGBT+ romantic ships at this point especially as a queer writer myself. I’m real over the heteronormativity. If you come to me with a queer pairing I’m far more likely try it out.
IMPORTANT: Please give my FEMALES as much attention as you give my MALES. I’ve tried closing my MALES. I still get used for them. Especially to romantic ship. Treat my FEMALES the way you’d want yours to be treated. I’m always down for F/F interactions so we both win. I truly love female muses, I simply wanna get to use mine too.
Drama is pretty much a must, in the sense of the plot. I’ve had people tell me they don’t like it and that’s fine but without things happening, the story doesn’t really progress.  IMPORTANT: However! NO DRAMA OOC. I worked with middle school kids for half a decade so my bullshit meter is super low. No OOC drama. No HATE.   I DO have the following TRIGGERS: incest, rape, sexual assault of any kind, romanticizing the devil.
The first three are self explanatory. However the fourth has become really common with shows like Lucifer in existence. For personal reasons, treating the devil like he’s a cool guy is really triggering for me. I understand that his character from Supernatural is very popular. However, romanticizing him, making him seem like he’s “not actually a bad guy.” like he’s just “misunderstood.” or even “falling in love with the devil.” I can’t handle. If you’re writing him as a villain or enemy that’s perfectly fine. It’s really just the threads and content that romanticizes him that really really triggers me.
I’m asking that these things be tagged: tw: incest, tw: rape, tw: sexual assault, tw: devil friendly.
NOTE: If I ever post anything you need tagged with a trigger that I haven’t, please don’t hesitate to ask. If it makes you uncomfortable I don’t want you to have to see it. Typically I don’t post traditionally triggering content. But just in case, let me know.
Last but certainly not least, I’M HERE TO MAKE FRIENDS. Seriously. I want to get to know you OOC. You guys are my friends and I care about you very much. I love chatting. Likewise, I can make a great soundboard. If you need someone to talk to, please don’t hesitate. You guys are so important to me. I’ve been on Tumblr roleplaying for about five years. But I’ve been roleplaying for about 13 years total. And some of my closest friends have come from writing with others.
These have been updated as of 10/08/19. I tried to make them more streamline and I really do appreciate you reading them. It makes writing together easier. If I find out you didn’t read them before interacting I will be less inclined to write with you. I read all rules before I follow someone or write with them so I expect the same courtesy. They are here for a reason.
Thank you!

Completed fics? Or one shots? Ur amazing
A Foolish Wit - seabiscuit
Lena Luthor needs a husband, Clark Danvers needs an easy resolution to his cash flow problem. Unfortunately, the best laid plans often go awry. Or, Lena Luthor is actually rich, but Clark Danvers isn’t actually Clark Danvers. It’s complicated.
sojourn - concreteskies
When Lena has to move to London for a month, she asks Kara to come along and join her. As friends of course. (Friends that smile at each other a lot. Friends that think about each other’s lips a lot. That kind of friends.) It goes about as well as you’d imagine.
you are the fire (and i’m gasoline) - youmeandem
Lena forgets all about the stars and how pretty they are at the sight of Kara laughing, because even in the bad torch lighting, Kara is prettier than all the stars combined. Something twists in Lena’s stomach. She wants to lean forward and press her lips against Kara’s, and she almost does, but then she realizes what she’s doing and she stops herself just in time before Kara notices anything. or: kara and lena meet as teenagers au
A fiancée for Christmas - kellsbells
Alex is, as always, being hounded by Eliza about Kara’s life. In particular, her personal life. Alex blurts out a lie on a whim, pretending that Kara is engaged, and begs Kara to go along with the lie. Kara mentions the situation to her very platonic friend Lena Luthor, who offers to step in. Hijinks ensue
Monster Under The Bed - BiJane
Lillian Luthor wants everyone to fear Supergirl. That includes her daughter.
The Fifth Wall - Black_Tea_and_Bones
Kara goes to bed with Mon-El, and wakes up with Lena Luthor. But it isn’t Kara’s bed, and they’re not in Lena’s apartment, and that is definitely not their baby… Right?
Kara is Terrible at Keeping Secrets - Rhino (RhinoMouse)
Twenty-eight ways Lena Luther could find out that Kara is an alien. Surprisingly that doesn’t necessarily mean she finds out she’s Supergirl. Because Kara is really terrible at keeping secrets.
Destruction (sometimes means rebirth) - BloodInTheFields
There’s not much that she can do. The heat, she doesn’t feel. She walks through the flames and uses her x-ray vision to spot any survivor, but there’s nothing. Only devastation. or, in which Kara loses Lena, but does she really?
Giant - coeurastronaute
Kara and Lena meet in high school, but then life. (not a high school AU). Lena leaves and they meet up again, this time as Supergirl and Lena Luthor.
no one but you (got me feeling this way) - AgentJoanneMills
It’s not like Kara deliberately sets out to make her life harder than it should be. It’s not her fault that she’s excitable, okay, and she forgets things sometimes and maybe those things should not be forgotten under any circumstances. Maybe those things include, well, housing forms, which as it turns out are super important to submit on time if she wants to not be homeless in her sophomore year of college. Her sister’s going to give her so much crap about this (Alternatively: in which Kara forgot to fill out the housing form and was left with no choice but to live in the most exclusive apartment on campus.)
If you don’t love me, pretend (just for a few more hours)… - Khrat9
Kara Danvers had been a recent development she never saw coming. They weren’t friends. Lena didn’t like to blur the lines; she made a point to be professional with everyone in her workspace and especially reporters, however cute they may be. Au : where Kara and Lena aren’t friends. One night stands… but like several nights per month, sometimes more.
Not Afraid to Fall - prettyaveragewhiteshark
Lena Luthor has a strictly sexual relationship with Supergirl, but when her feelings for amateur journalist Kara Danvers begin to grow, everything gets a lot more complicated. See inside for smut, feelings, rogue DEO agents, feelings, explosions, angst, and more feelings!
Unavoidable Dreams - C_AND_B
“Kara had sex dreams. About Lena. Kara Danvers had extremely vivid sex dreams about Lena Luthor and she couldn’t stop thinking about it. It comes in snippets, and flashes, and visions and then it slams into her all at once, so fast she can barely breathe through the palpitations in her chest. Then it lingers. It’s there when she blinks, and when she sleeps, and every time she turns and finds Lena by her side (which seems to be increasing with every passing day).” Or, Kara has sex dreams and then just awkwardly fumbles through interactions with Lena.
Swipe Right for a Super - eluigih
Lena Luthor matches with Supergirl on tinder and she’s convinced that she’s being catfished.
Whispers - gabs88
“Lena is pale, her face washed out. Her knuckles are white where they grip her glass. Lillian is standing in the doorway as if this is any normal meeting, her face humourless. A mask. It’s what Kara noticed most, trapped with Mon’El in that place. Lillian is a difficult person to get any kind of read on. In some ways, so is Lena. But she’s warm where her mother is not. Smiles softly, grins like seeing Kara is the highlight of her day. She throws expressions around with ease. Ones that make Kara’s heart speed up, make her want to bite her own lip in return. Or bite Lena’s for her. But have they been real? That’s an entirely different question.”
Secretaries Know Best - Rhino (RhinoMouse)
Jess has been Ms.Luthor’s assistant long enough to know that she has terrible taste in women. So when her boss finally starts crushing on newbie reporter and loyal beam of sunshine Kara Danvers, Jess rejoices. But there are vultures hovering, unworthy boys and a pesky caped wonder and Jess will damned before she lets them ruin things.
but i’m weak (and what’s wrong with that?) - exprsslyfrbidden
Lillian threatens to hurt Supergirl if Lena continues their friendship. Naturally, this means they should become friends with benefits.
a necessary ingredient - geoclaire
Kara and Lena go out for drinks after work, and end up talking about how the general public think about Supergirl. And how Lena does. Things flow from there. But how exactly are an alien and the sister of the country’s most famous xenophobe supposed to build a relationship?
One Shots
make my wish come true - falsealarm
“Kara said she could come over whenever she was free, had literally texted Lena saying she would welcome the company so she knows she isn’t going to intrude but Lena’s three hours early and she doesn’t know if that welcome extends this far ahead.” AKA Lena shows up early to a friend get-together at Kara’s and things get festive (and flirty) real quick.
we are what we pretend to be - C_AND_B
After the unrestricted office access, and the flowers, and the surprise visits to Catco, everyone just kinda starts to assume Kara and Lena are dating, and maybe they should let them. (AKA, Lena and Kara really just date whilst pretending they’re fake dating).
I Just Want to Love You in My Own Language - lynnearlington
“In the center of it all, on her desk, is a gorgeous glass vase full of over two dozen lavender roses. “Pretty,” she murmurs as she comes around to look at them. In the middle of the light purple flowers is a small card, thank you written in elegant script over the surface. There’s no name, but there doesn’t need to be.” [A love story, told with flowers]
wonderful electric (cover me in you) - falsealarm
Lena makes Kara feel like she’s vibrating, like her nerve endings are alight with electricity and it’s intoxicating to say the least. (Tentatively, 4 interruptions + 1 free night.)
in the sun - isawet
Lena needs a date and Kara needs a job. (fake dating supercorp)
You to Me, Me to You - wtfoctagon
When Kara sees a vase of flowers on Lena’s desk, she doesn’t get jealous per se– it’s just that she thinks that Lena deserves so much better than a measly, cliche bunch of roses.
you can hear it in the silence (you’re in love) - C_AND_B
“Kara who always makes her feel trusted, and believed in, and safe. Kara who makes her glance up at a shooting star and make a wish. Kara whose frame is sturdy but soft. Kara whose slight touch makes a shiver run down her spine. Kara who she’s fairly sure she’ll be irrevocably in love with before she can figure out a way to stop it.– She might already be too late.” (the evolution of Kara and Lena’s relationship alongside the lyrics of ‘you are in love’)
Our Circle Meets - uhpockuhlipz
Meeting one’s soulmate is supposed to be monumental. It is supposed to be the most important event of one’s life and from everything Lena’s seen, that moment is almost sacred. So it’s a bit baffling when Lena finds hers and the whole world seems to stop spinning in that moment… but Kara Danvers doesn’t seem to notice it at all. OR the quintessential red string of fate AU (though it’s woven into canon 'verse).
cops, robbers & incredibly bad decisions - C_AND_B
Kara’s been trying to catch a masked criminal for months, and Lena, well Lena is just trying to steal from the rich and give to the poor (or something along those lines).
The Six Times Lena Tries to Tell Kara She’s Pregnant and the One Time Kara Takes the Hint - JediFighterPilot2727
Can you write a one shot where Lena finds out she is pregnant and then gives little hints to Kara and then because Kara is obvious Lena has to yell it out to her. Extra points for over the moon Kara and smut!!!
pain - cautiouslyoptimistic
lena’s never felt her soulmate’s pain and she’s sure that it’s because her soulmate doesn’t exist at all or, it takes twenty-one years and thousands of light years for lena to find kara
Luthor Escort Services - uhpockuhlipz
Kara needs a last minute date to her sister’s wedding. Luthor’s Escort Services is there to help, but Lena is nothing like what Kara was expecting or a fake dating AU that is just… ridiculous.
when i think about you (well, you know the rest) - Jazzfordshire
“The world comes to a grinding halt for a moment when she sees something bad. Something horrific. Possibly the worst thing that’s ever happened in human or Kryptonian history. A solid little purple arrow, coloured in, next to Lena’s name.” OR - Wherein Lena makes a realization during a private moment, and Snapchat almost ruins Kara’s life.
Lena Luthor’s Apartment - 13lxclkr
Lena Luthor actually has an apartment and sometimes, a certain blonde likes to crash on her couch.
Comfort and Warmth - spacemanearthgirl
Kara’s heart is pounding in her chest, this certainly isn’t the way she wanted Alex to find out about her small (giant) crush on Lena.
your sunday best (looks best on my floor) - Jazzfordshire
“Siri, is it possible to die from sexual frustration?”   “I’m sorry, I don’t understand.”   Lena sighs. “Of course you don’t. Fine. Siri, make a note – give incentives to the R&D team for finishing the red sun lamp. As quickly as possible.”
exception - cautiouslyoptimistic
kara keeps doing strange things, and lena doesn’t know what to make of it or, kara is in love and it takes lena an absurdly long time to notice
Hey, Are You Lena Luthor? - gveret
Those first words a soulmate is destined to say to you are supposed to be magical, indescribable, life changing. But for Lena Luthor, they’re just an everyday occurrence. (In which Lena has the most infuriatingly mundane soul mark.)
out of the darkness (and into the sun) - intolauren
“I hit you with my car and was the only one to visit you in the hospital, this is sort of awkward, are you okay?”

would love to hear your full hot take on Voltron s7 if you’re inclined to share
there HAS been a lack of salt in general on this blog, huh??
all right, FULL hot take on voltron s7. spoilers ahead. salt. hate. don’t click the readmore if you don’t wanna read it. it’s a disorganized mess also. i’m tired still. s7 drained my ability to write well--sucked it right out of me.
god, where do i even start? the season started out all right. the gameshow episode was fun! but as soon as we returned to earth things went straight into snoozemode. i was itching to turn it off and go back to finish s3 of miss fisher’s murder mysteries, because i just wasn’t that invested in watching just a couple more hours of a new season of voltron. and this after i’d just recently marathoned s1-6 with my husband.
i spent half the time staring at my phone. my husband was on his tablet. we complained about how boring it was aloud. we paused to talk shit about it.
there were a few good things, but it seems to me most of them were at the very beginning of the season. liiiike romelle. my husband was ready to set sail on the s.s. hunk x romelle which was incredible. acxa? also good. KOSMO? the best character in this series now, hands down. notice how little of the good there was in this season? hm.
anyway like i said, as soon as we had to see earth again i was bored. i don’t even know how to organize all my thoughts on this, but i’ll try.
flashback scenes for days. boring.
i’m not saying i could write it better but imo it would have been way more interesting to toss the characters into the situation without the audience having a clue what they were walking into. let them act and be overwhelmed with us?
i don’t care overmuch about sam holt let alone his wife. at first i was pretty okay with them because i’m all for fleshing out side characters, but in the end it was all pretty meh.
idk he was just right about literally everything and could do no wrong. boring.
admiral sanda is one of the worst-written cringey characters i’ve EVER had the displeasure of watching.
the only relief i felt in her character was that she wasn’t fulfilling the latino hotshot trope by being a young latino man instead of an older woman.
but making her an older woman didn’t actually make her interesting.
in fact, none of her motivations or actions made any sense.
you’re telling me this bitch is super by the books but she believes sam holt enough to spend billions on developing new tech on nothing more than his word? okay
if she’s so by the books she should have remained entirely by the books the entire time.
if she believes sam enough to spend billions in manpower and materials to build this shit she probably believes sam enough to trust in his judgment re: military tactics.
seriously i hated this character beyond hate. her little ‘redemption’ arc was poorly done. her getting a photograph at the memorial was annoying.
okay, i can take the latter as the military keeping up appearances. don’t want the population knowing you were betrayed by the, or one of the, highest ranking officers in the military. that’d be a very big yikes.
i find it eXTREMELY hard to believe this lady did all this and only realizes she was an idiot at the last second.
whaT do you meAN you aREn’T keePINg yOur eNd of thE bARgaIN?
I MEAN COME ON SHE’S NOT 23 AND BRIMMING WITH NEW POWER OR LACK OF EXPERIENCE!!!
in other words she can’t possibly be that stupid. nobody over the age of 25 is that stupid, especially someone versed in warfare, in a universe that supposedly had a WWIII.
SERIOUSLY I HATED THIS CHARACTER and for some reason it pissed me off more that she was a woman instead of a crusty old white dude. maybe because, aside from the MFE pilots, there weren’t really any other female officers named and important?
sendak was a disappointing anticlimactic bore.
seriously he was a case of the doldrums.
i don’t know what i expected out of him, but he wasn’t conniving or interesting at all. this is a guy who let his own ships blow up just to get at his foe. i find it incredibly difficult to believe he wouldn’t have just blown that defensive base to dust.
yes, even at the risk of losing a ship.
let’s talk about adam, another useless husk of a character.
kill the gays stereotype in full effect. usually it’s lesbians. i guess good job on it being a guy who dies?
i love how the whole fandom stanned adam and then not only was he dead as fuck but he was pointless as fuck.
voltron writers eagerly watching the audience, tails thumping in a poor attempt at suppressed excitement, bodies practically wriggling like a dog waiting for the command to eat the treat balanced on its nose: TELL US WE DID GOOD!! TELL US WE’re GOOD BOYS!! VALIDATE US!!! WE INCLUDED TEH GAY!!!!
like bitch...y’all gave this away in advance AND FOR WHAT?
you know why. YOU KNOW. i know. WE ALL KNOW. it was just to try and earn representation points with the audience.
i hate rep points more than i hate a lot of things right now. it’s just so cringey. it’s just showrunners trying to get points for being ~progressive~ while never having to actually stick to being progressive on a continual basis lmao.
don’t get me wrong, i don’t give a SINGLE fuck about adam. i’m just mad he was touted at a convention and then ended up meaning abSOLUTELY nothing. no, shiro looking at his memorial plaque doesn’t change anything lmao.
look i’m not saying it makes his relationship with adam ‘less’. but i AM saying that making him an ex and also a dead ex means the creators don’t have to commit to continuing to deal with shiro’s sexuality, whether it’s gay, bi, or pan. they can just avoid addressing it or writing it at all. because this isn’t a romance series. they just shove adam into a figurative and literal casket and want their pats on the back. which, uhhhhh they’re not gonna get from me. adam isn’t progressive. adam’s boring.
all the action in the last four or so episodes? dull. insipid. uninspired. i’m out of insults. i just don’t care about these mfe fighters. earth is almost wiped out. am i supposed to still be caring about it?
that yawn-worthy last stand speech had me wanting to take The Long Sleep like sendak cares if you put up a fight or not. you’re all weaklings. ‘we’ll go down swinging’ is as old as the hills. i don’t know what i needed instead of this, but this wasn’t.
there was a bRIEFLY good moment with hunk but like
how convenient that everyone’s families are alive lol
or at least hunk’s parents and lance’s entire extended family
that annoyed me idk. they’re going for this gritty shit where almost everyone is dead but then pull that?
ya lost me.
on the PLUS side the little scene with keith trying to be of comfort was nice. if anyone Gets It, keith does. and then he tries to help hunk too, which i liked a lot.
but it didn’t detract enough from the Boring of the episodes to really feel good to me. sorry.
hi i’m shiro and i’m sick. i’m so sick. the sickest. but i’m going into space anyway!!!
did i miss something or did shiro’s mysterious sickness just never mean anything?
did the galra cure it? that’d be interesting character stuff.
speaking of shiro, his hover arm is weird and i hate it.
what was with allura giving him her crystal thing? is that ever going to mean anything or was it useless too?
ATLAS is now a giant robot??? what
haha sam holt built this but didn’t know it could do this? don’t fucking??? pull that??? it makes me want to die. it’s so bad. it’s CRINGEY
he’s the enGINEER!! he’d know!! if it was capable of even 50% of that!!!
haha it’s magic
shut the fuuuck up magic needs to still be explained!!!!
where are the citizens and crew on this robot anyway like you do realize they’d be dead from the force of it moving around and probably getting rattled around inside the ship right?
they’ve got a massacre in the hold to clean up when this is over.
the super robot that was like massively strong and shit?
yeah let’s DBZ it up i guess and create antagonists that are exponentially stronger as if that’ll maintain the audience’s attention lmaooooo
it was boring and the reveal at the end with the altean was boring. who cares. i don’t.
i hated the attempt at a wholesome reunion looK IT’S TEAMWORK EVERYONE WORKING TO  G E T HER!!!!
shay showing up to hug hunk WITH HER BROTHER was the only wholesome thing about it
i dunno it just seemed kind of forced to me. oh look how the paladins were lucky enough to keep their families!! what about the rest of earth. now none of the paladins can even really relate to it. it’s depressing. :/
i dunno. the beginning was promising! and interesting! and maybe even fun. but the earth’s last stand stuff was dull. i think because it was so rushed it lacked the balance of humor that has made the show worth watching. and there were cute fun MOMENTS in the later episodes of the season (re: kosmo, “i gotta get me one of these”), but it wasn’t enough to balance out how dull the rest of it was.
if there’s anything i missed talking about, let me know and i can add it/make another post. but right now this is my current salt.
i mean mostly my opinion is:
wow that was a waste of my time.

For the writing game, I couldn't decide which, all the colors please? They're so interesting!
Omg I was so excited when I saw this! You’re so sweet to enable my rambling
Red: What type of writer’s block do you experience the most?
I guess the most common one is I get stuck in transitions. Like I know how this scene goes and I know how the next scene goes, but I don’t know exactly how to get from A to B and it’s one of those cases where I can’t just put a line and jump to it. Scene transitions are one of the hardest things for me for some reason. The second most common for me is probably when my brain is being a shit and won’t let me be productive due to some sort of emotional crisis lmao
White: Are you a supporter/lover of fanfiction?
I mean, kind of obvious lmao, but absolutely. I think it’s great that there are people who are creating things solely out of love for something, and that’s really what fanfiction is, at it’s deepest core. It’s a community of people being so enthusiastic about and loving something so hard that they work their asses of and dedicate time to just… making more of it. For no real external benefit other than some social validation, if they’re lucky. Love and passion are the true motivators and idk that’s just really beautiful to me
Black: Would you want to live in one of the fictional worlds you’vecreated?
I don’t really do a lot of worldbuilding because I find it incredibly boring and I’m terrible at it lmao, but since I always write either canon-verse or modern au, I’m going to treat this as ‘do I want to live in the Star Wars universe?’. And the answer to that would honestly be no. As much as there’s cool stuff, like advanced technology and aliens and maybe I’d be lucky enough to be able to move shit with my mind, there’s also a lot of bad things. A lot of fascism, a lot of wars, and every once in a while some asshole builds a planet-destroying superweapon and blows up a planet (or 5) and like… I could live on one of those, you know
That said, if I didn’t die because the planet I was living on exploded, I would probably survive alright. I mean, my background is in science, so tbh I might have better opportunities there than I do here. While that could mean making chemical weapons or something if the Empire was in power, that’s at least more interesting than customer service at a chemical company lmao. I still wouldn’t choose to live there, but I think I’d manage okay if I had to
[More beneath the cut - my sincerest apologies to those on mobile]
Blue: What’s more important to you: characters or plot?
I mean, they both definitely matter, but if I have to choose? Interesting characters can save a dry plot, but the best plot ever written will still be mediocre at best if the characters aren’t compelling. Personally, I love character-driven stories more than anything. Event-driven plots can still be fun, but I prefer the focus to be on how the characters are dealing with said events, as opposed to them just being passively driven along by them. The best is when it’s the characters themselves driving the events of the plot, but that’s more difficult to execute than it sounds. Regardless, it’s the characters that usually draw me into a story in the first place and that keep me interested. And from the perspective of my own writing, I go character-driven, all the way. Sure, some event might happen that drives the plot sometimes, but I’m far more interested in how the characters react to that event than anything else
Yellow: What’s a common writing tip that you mostly ignore?
In terms of writing advice, nothing makes my blood boil more than those posts that say ‘get rid of this entire class of words’ or ‘if it’s not absolutely strictly necessary to the plot, cut it’. Fuck that shit. If you want your writing to look like Hemingway, sure, go for it, but a) Hemingway is overrated, and b) that’s not the only way to write well. Especially as someone who tends to focus on characters, passages that aren’t necessary to the plot may be necessary to establish characterization. Or they may add some emotion to the story that gets the reader invested. Same with wording choices; more or less words can drastically change the tone or mood of the scene. Are there times when you need to cut words and keep things concise? Absolutely, but any writing tip that says ‘remove every instance of [word] in your document’ is fucking bullshit and you should never listen to it
Grey: What’s a common writing tip that you almost always follow?
Tbh I think every writing tip you see should always be taken with a grain of salt, especially if it’s a ‘never do x’ because there is almost always a situation where doing x is the right thing to do, it’s just a matter of knowing how to do it correctly (looking at you, ‘never use the passive voice’). So really, there are very few I always follow, but I’ll give one that was foundationally helpful for me
Edit in a different format than you write. That can be changing the text size, or the font, or printing it out physically, or whatever. For me, I usually pop it into AO3′s preview function and take notes of things that need changing as I go. It forces your brain to notice things it’s been overlooking for the entire writing period. I only do my final edit this way, generally speaking, but I’ve found it to be incredibly helpful for catching typos and general weirdness in the writing
Orange: How many projects do you usually have going at once?
Because my fics are usually short, I tend to only have 1, but I think I’ve had up to 3-4 before. That’s basically me just popping between documents everytime I get stuck on one until one is finished lmao. But more than 2 gets to be a lot to handle
Currently, I’m really only working on my Big Bang fic, though I do have at least one one-shot I’m planning to write when I need a short break from it
Pink: Which of your characters would become your best friend?
This is so hard because like, I don’t get along with a lot of people generally speaking. I’m also going to treat this as the entire SW cast even though I only write Kylo and Hux, for the most part. And I’m not sure I’d be good friends with either of them. While Kylo would make an excellent self-destruction buddy, I think we’re too similar for the most part to get along. And while I also have an element of Hux in me that’s my anal retentiveness when it comes to organization (not to be confused with cleanliness; I’m talking more about my colour-coded work email and my nested folder system on my computer), I’m also very emotional, messy, and I’m not really equipped to verbally spar with him. I think I would actually do okay with Hux as a boss, not a friend, but with Kylo, I think we’d get along really well until we really didn’t. And then I would be dead lmao
Aaaand none of that was an actual answer. But like, I honestly don’t know? Most of the other characters I really like (e.g. Rey, Rae Sloane, Ventress), it’s because I would have a big huge crush on them which would manifest as my hovering in their vicinity a lot but never actually starting a conversation and then waxing poetic while crying about my unrequited love when I continue to go unnoticed lmao. Which is, well, still not friendship
Maybe Finn… I might get along really well with Finn. He’s one of my favourites as well and I think he’d be really interesting to talk to. Has a lot of interesting views on things, likely a good listener. Hm. I’m still not 100% solid on it, but after far too many words, that’s my answer lmao
Purple: Which of your characters would become your sworn enemy?
Okay, hear me out on this one because the reason isn’t what you think lmao. I’m also treating this less as ‘sworn enemy’ and more ‘person I’d least get along with’ and that’s actually Poe. And the reason is that highly extroverted, extremely friendly people who others call charismatic tend to rub me the wrong way. Like there’s nothing wrong with them, they’re perfectly nice, but they’re just too friendly and my socially-inept, introverted brain always responds to that with DANGER DANGER. And I think he would definitely fall into that category for me haha
Green: Pencil, typewriter, or computer?
Computer. I have written fic by hand before (I also sometimes do planning by hand, just because it can be a bit more visual; Fractured was planned largely by hand when I used to work evenings at a gym and had access to unlimited spare paper), but that’s usually only when I have nothing else to work with. I wrote most of a fic in the Halifax airport on a layover, once. I’ve also done it on my phone, but that’s too fucking annoying lmao. Typerwriters are super fun to use but also very impractical for me; my typing accuracy isn’t good enough
Brown: Do you have a set writing space? Or do you write everywhere?
Mostly I’m at home on my couch, but that’s really cause I have nowhere else to write. I do write at work sometimes (not smut though lmao), but only when it’s slow enough that I can get away with it. And there’s nowhere else I really go where I’m sitting with a computer for long periods of time
Silver: Are you comfortable writing in public places?
I am, yeah. I don’t know why I wouldn’t be tbh. Work is a public place and the only reason I don’t write smut there is because I don’t want to get fired lmao (slacking off is one thing, porn is another). I don’t really ever write in public, but that’s more because I don’t spend a lot of time sitting in public places by myself
Gold: Do your stories usually contain lessons or morals?
Not really… I can’t think of any at least. They always have some sort of closure, though, because I fucking hate open-ended stuff where everything isn’t worked out in the end lmao (or is at least on it’s way there). I’m too fragile for that shit haha
Clear: Do your characters control where the story goes or do youmaintain control?
I tend to write more like an rper than an actual author, based on conversations I’ve had with others, so my characters have a lot of control. That said, if you’ve got your plot and all the major points of it planned out and then you get halfway through and find it doesn’t work because of the characters, then that’s a failure in planning, not the characters taking control. Sometimes things do change and are reworked as you go, that’s the nature of writing, but that still means your plan needed some adjusting, you just didn’t know it at the time. I intentionally leave a lot of room in my plans for the characters (e.g. ‘and then they talk about [blank]. Hux says something mean and Kylo gets angry’ might be my only note for an entire scene), but if you’ve planned enough to actually start writing, your characters and plot should already work together. Characters control the minor details of the story, not the major plot
Tan: Are you open to co-writing a story?
I might be. I’ve never done it before and the Big Bang I’m doing now is the most collaborative thing I’ve ever done writing-wise. If someone approached me and was really interested in it, I might be willing to give it a shot. I’m not really sure how it works, though. I tend to envision it as basically an rp except it’s planned out beforehand and then edited afterwards, but in all honesty, I have no idea how it actually goes

Covid-19 and our faith in ourselves: a question of mental health -- Psalm 88 -- Sunday, September 26, 2021
Tumblr media
A gymnast’s courage
At the 2019 U.S. Gymnastics Championships, Simone Biles accomplished something that no one else in the history of the universe has ever done: the “triple-double.” She sprinted across the mat, leaped into the air backwards to do two back flips while twisting three times before landing safely. It is a thing to behold—I suspect most of us would have to watch the video multiple times in slow motion to figure out how many flips and twists are there.
youtube
You probably remember that her experience at this year’s Summer Olympics was difficult. After an early vault attempt went awry, Biles withdrew from nearly every other event because of something called the twisties: a condition where your brain and your body get disconnected, and skills that should be deeply stored in muscle memory suddenly become unfamiliar. During the vault in question, she said, “I lost track of where I was in the air.”
When asked why she thought the twisties emerged, Biles mentioned that there were some triggers: the extra year of intense training due to the one-year delay in the Olympic games; and the pressure of being the public face of the US Olympic team—including the expectations that came along with that. With her recent testimony before Congress about the sexual abuse she experienced by women’s gymnastics team trainer Larry Nassar, one has to think that was part of her struggles as well. As super-human as Simone Biles seems to be, it can be easy to forget that at the end of the day, she is simply a human being who is not immune to the difficulties and pressures of life.
One of the saddest commentaries on her experience came from those who criticized her for withdrawing from her events. No one would have criticized her if she would have landed awkwardly during an event and twisted an ankle. Because her injury wasn’t visible, some missed the courage of the choice she made.
Covid-19, one more time
This is the second of two sermons prompted by the Covid-19 pandemic. We’ve spent focused a lot of energy over the last 18 months on social distancing, because we want to “keep people safe.” But social distancing has created some problems as well. Isolation from other people and the absence of meaningful routines and rituals has presented real challenges for people’s mental health. For people who live alone, for people who live in urban apartment buildings without easy access to nature, to people with existing mental health diagnoses, to people with dementia and their caregivers, social distancing has added a difficult layer to already difficult times.
It has also been a difficult season for those who are carrying extra responsibilities in their jobs: teachers and medical professionals, to name two. Covid-19 and our response to it has added stress to our lives in many different ways.
Mental illness: the “non-casserole disease”
All of this leads me to talk this morning about mental health. Let me be very up front with one thing: I am not trained as a counselor or therapist, so I want to be careful to not speak beyond my knowledge. Within that, pastors are often the first person someone comes to when they’re struggling with something, and I am happy to meet with people and talk and pray about what they are facing. But it also important to emphasize the necessity of mental health treatment, to refer people to trained counselors and doctors who can provide that treatment.
As Simone Biles’ experience revealed, we often treat mental illness differently from physical illness. Some call mental illness the “non-casserole disease.” If someone has surgery, or experiences the death of a loved one, then we respond in particular ways. But how do we respond to someone living with long-term mental health diagnoses? How long after the death of the loved one do we keep taking the casserole, or sending the sympathy card, or checking in? And what if the mental health diagnosis doesn’t have such an obvious cause? What then?
Mental health is a common issue in our society. According to the World Health Organization, it is estimated that just under 4% of persons experience depression (about 5 in our congregation at any given time). That’s just one mental health diagnosis. We could also talk about bipolar disorder or schizophrenia and other psychoses. We might include the challenges presented by dementia—both to the individual and to the one caring for them. There are those who self-medicate with alcohol or other drugs. How many times do we write such persons off as “addicts” without understanding the suffering they experience?
Beyond that, there are plenty of reputable sources that chronicle mental health occurrences and give estimates of how prevalent they are.
Tumblr media
As I noted, Simone Biles’ struggles with the twisties was more complicated than just a mental health issue because her story also includes the trauma of sexual abuse. None of us know how the various factors she named work together in her—she might not even know. We do know that the impact of traumatic experiences stick with us. Many of us have had very difficult things happen to us. When we are surrounded by people who love and care for and nurture us, then we can often function well—humans are resilient creatures. But when the trauma is inflicted by someone who was supposed to be taking care of us, it can become impossible to integrate that into our experience. Our minds and our bodies retain that experience, and it can become a source of struggle throughout our lives.
Adding insult to injury are the unhelpful ways we respond to persons dealing with mental illness. This includes the way people accused Simone Biles of cowardice instead of recognizing her courage; it might also look like someone saying the answer to your mental health struggle is that you “just need to pray more” or “there must be some hidden sin in your life that is causing these things.” Would we tell that to someone who had fallen and broken their wrist? Of course not. These responses reveal people taking mental illness less seriously than physical illness.
The blessing of a difficult Psalm
The Bible takes struggles like these very seriously. I am continually reminded of the importance of maintaining a regular connection with the Psalms, because when we move past our two or three favorite Psalms and consider the messages and experiences presented in all 150, we discover a Biblical vocabulary for prayer to meet all of life’s circumstances. Psalm 88 recognizes the deep struggles that come to someone who feels that their troubles have left them beyond any source of help in this life and the next.
There is no explicit indication that Psalm 88 describes mental illness—some commentators ponder a connection to Alzheimer’s disease; others wonder if these are the experiences of an abused woman. The cause of the suffering isn’t the issue; what matters is that someone is struggling with an extremely difficult situation and are met with silence from both God and everyone else. But even feeling abandoned by God has not made prayer impossible.
The presence of this Psalm in the Bible is permission to lament and protest. It is OK to bring these things to God in prayer; we need not suffer in silence.
And what a lament it is! The most anguished parts of the Psalm are found in verses 5 and 12. In verse 5, the Psalmist says they feel like those “forsaken among the dead,” of having lost the blessing of living a long life and being properly buried, instead having their body discarded along the road or unceremoniously dumped into a mass-grave to be forever nameless and forgotten.
In verse 12, these feelings of being cut off emerge again, wondering if God’s power is available to those who live “in the land of forgetfulness.” What a lonely sounding place.
Tumblr media
The writer of this Psalm is deep in the despair of abandonment: there seems to be no help, there is no one cares, and God is silent. The Psalmist cries out to God, but God doesn’t answer. It might be that the Psalm’s most powerful moment is found in its unresolved ending: the Psalm ends abruptly in verse 18, leaving us wondering—like so many do—if the prayer made it to God’s ears, or if it simply bounced off the ceiling. Were the last verses of this Psalm lost? Or was it intentionally ended here to further communicate the cut-off feeling expressed by the one offering the prayer?
Tumblr media
How do we pray when there is no resolution? Life’s issues aren’t normally resolved when we get to the end of the worship service, or devotional reading, or conversation, or even a session with a counselor. The struggle goes on. What this Psalm offers to us is that the recognition that suffering is part of our human experience and talking about it is sanctioned by God in the vocabular of prayer.
Our response: sitting in the silence
One response from the church is to not forget those who struggle in seeming silence and to be a companion for those whose experience seems shrouded in darkness. We can reach out and be present to those suffering in “the land of forgetfulness.”
Someone has written a helpful piece about the importance of supporting others in their mental health struggles, setting it in the world of Winnie the Pooh. Perhaps you’ve read it before:
Tumblr media
It occurred to Pooh and Piglet that they hadn’t heard from Eeyore for several days, so they put on their hats and coats and trotted across the Hundred Acre Wood to Eeyore’s stick house. Inside the house was Eeyore.
“Hello Eeyore,” said Pooh.
“Hello Pooh. Hello Piglet,” said Eeyore, in a glum sounding voice.
“We just thought we’d check in on you,” said Piglet, “because we hadn’t heard from you, and so we wanted to know if you were okay.”
Eeyore was silent for a moment. “Am I okay?” he asked, eventually. “Well, I don’t know, to be honest. Are any of us really okay? That’s what I ask myself. All I can tell you, Pooh and Piglet, is that right now I feel really rather sad, and alone, and not much fun to be around at all. Which is why I haven’t bothered you. Because you wouldn’t want to waste your time hanging out with someone who is sad, and alone, and not much fun to be around at all, would you now.”
Pooh looked at Piglet, and Piglet looked at Pooh, and they both sat down, one on either side of Eeyore in his stick house.
Eeyore looked at them in surprise. “What are you doing?”
“We’re sitting here with you,” said Pooh, “because we are your friends. And true friends are there for you, even if you’re feeling sad, or alone, or not much fun to be around at all. And so here we are.”
“Oh,” said Eeyore. “Oh.” And the three of them sat there in silence, and while Pooh and Piglet said nothing at all; somehow, almost imperceptibly, Eeyore started to feel a very tiny little bit better.
Because Pooh and Piglet were there.
No more; no less.

Oricon News: aiko “May Dream” interview
Tumblr media
aiko’s album “May Dream” became her 3rd album at #1 on the Oricon charts in May. She’s been constantly active during the approximately 18 years since her debut as an artist, and is currently in the middle of a nationwide tour. Writer Yoshirei - who interviewed aiko at the end of 2012 - had the opportunity to speak with her in depth about her album and her concerts. This columnist is well-known for his culture and romance columns, and has also written book adaptations of romance movies... Will he reveal what’s on aiko’s mind too?
(Thank you parasmichael for the commission!)
When I’m spending time alone, sometimes I feel like I’m not sure where my dreams end and reality begins (laughs)
―― Your nationwide tour of Japan’s already begun. How does it feel?
aiko: I just finished the second performance of the tour (at the time of this interview). I’m doing some of my older songs on this tour, and it’s made me happy to hear the audience’s voices get louder depending on the song. It really feels like they’ve been waiting for this album, and the concerts.
―― What’s the reasoning behind the title?
aiko: I included the season in the titles when I released the albums “Sakura no Ki no Shita (Underneath the Cherry Tree)”, “Natsufuku (Summer Clothes)” and “Aki Soba ni Iru yo (Fall, I’m By Your Side)”, so they bring up memories and things about the time period they came out in. I guess you could say I’m able to make up different albums for each season. “May” can also mean ‘possibility’, so it has the added meaning of dreams coming true.
―― You’ve used the word ‘dream’ a lot in your songs.
aiko: Yes, I do. I write most of my songs when I’m at home alone. Even if I was just spending time with my friends, parents or staff members, once I’m in my room it’s like WHAM! The world and my whole concept of time just changes.
―― You feel like you’ve changed channels, almost.
aiko: Yeah. I’m always doing things on my own and staying up late. When I’m in my house thinking about things and daydreaming, time passes but there’s this place in my head where everything’s just stopped. It’s sort of like I’m not sure where my dreams end and reality begins. (laughs)
―― Dreams and reality seem to be parallel worlds in a lot of your songs.
aiko: They are, aren’t they? I was going for that with this album especially. The songs all got started with something that actually happened but the rest of the song develops within dreams.
Lately I’ve come to accept that I’m fine with living my life freely
―― I hope you don’t mind me going back to my impression of the album, but I thought it was excellent. Your last album “Awa no You na Ai Datta (Our Love Was Like a Bubble)” was so gutsy and almost manly for a woman. This album is also bold in its own way. It’s pretty standard to describe your work as ‘bittersweet’, ‘cute’ or ‘impassioned’, but this time you also seemed really cool and just downright profound to me.
aiko: That makes me so happy! Thank you very much.
―― I feel like you’ve made some huge changes. Not just the new arrangers that worked on the album. Maybe something psychologically too?
aiko: I think that started a little bit before “Awa no You na Ai Datta”. I’ve been wanting to change, even if it happens slowly, and I’ve wanted to try new things. I find myself unconsciously resisting new things too, and sometimes people disapprove at first. But I wasn’t worried by that-- I’d already made up my mind to try. I think that’s how I was able to make a changeup song like “Yume Miru Sukima (Room to Dream)” a single.
―― I really like that song. It feels like a brilliant daydream that’s gone in an instant.
aiko: Thank you very much.
―― Speaking of which, a few months ago you said that you used to worry a lot about what people thought of you, but now you don’t really mind if people hate you aside from the people who are important to you.
aiko: I’m finally at that age now! It was one of my big hang-ups. Like, I worried about not waking up in the morning and eating three square meals a day ― living a ‘normal’ life ― or about not being able to say what was on my mind the right way. I didn’t have any self confidence except for those moments when I was writing songs by myself. I lived my whole life wondering to do. But lately I’m just like, “It’s fine, I’ll live my life freely.”
―― You’ve come to accept yourself the way you are. (laughs)
aiko: I’ve accepted both the good and the bad. (laughs) So now I’m gonna give each and every one of my dreams a shape, one at a time. From now on I’m gonna take all those precious things that vanished like dreams in the blink of an eye, and give them all a form in my head. From now on I’ll live my life, eating my dreams as I go.
―― So you’ve gotten stronger, but you also spend more time deep inside your own head. Would you say the way you live life is the same way you make music then?
aiko: Maybe so. I’ve been spending more and more of my days off alone at home. (laughs) But I made an album, and it’s fun to me so I guess it’s fine. I might just be super aggressive by the next time we see each other though!
―― I interviewed you three years ago in 2012... Did that happen then too? (laughs)
aiko: No. (laughs) Maybe I won’t really change all that much. But that’s not something I can help either.
―― Didn’t you talk about your childhood the other day when you were on (the Fuji TV show) “Bokura no Jidai (Our Era)”? You said, “On the outside I played more actively and diplomatically than anyone else, but when I got home I stayed in my room and all I did was listen to the radio on my headphones alone.” I think there’s a connection there with the current you, aiko. Now that you’re 40, you’ve accepted both those sides of yourself and unified them.
aiko: Yeah, exactly!
―― The aiko who almost can’t get enough communication during her concerts, and the aiko who dreams all by herself co-exist together.
aiko: I think so too.
I’m able to better immerse myself in writing music when I’m having some kind of problem
―― Let’s talk more specifically about the songs. I thought the first song “Nanji Nanpun (What Time is It?)” was especially amazing. The arrangement of the melody and the story that plays out in the lyrics was so unexpected. How should I put it... it’s got some drama. It was exciting.
aiko: I guess it is surprising that I started the song with Kansai slang. I wasn’t sure if people outside of Kansai would understand. (laughs)
―― It starts with you looking for a piece of candy and finding a ring you meant to throw away, though. (laughs)
aiko: That really did happen to me. I was rummaging through my bag for a cough drop that day and found something that made me go, “Oh, so THAT’s where it was!” That “How come I couldn’t find it when I was looking for it before?” feeling is what started it all.
―― The fourth line in the first verse is very symbolic. You’re thinking about the things you lost together while you were in a romantic relationship, and the things you were looking for.
aiko: I’ve always had a bad habit of leaving important things all over the place like some kind of treasure hunt. And sometimes, I forget where I put them. I look and look but can’t find it, and then after a few years pass I find it and go, “A-HA! You were here all along!” It’s almost a game to me. (laughs)
―― You mysteriously find things after you’ve stopped looking for them. (laughs)
aiko: Yeah. Sometimes I’m happy to find things, but sometimes bad things happen because of it, or it’s already stopped being important to me by the time I find it, or it even turns into something I’m glad I lost. That’s sad. The song came about because it’s been a bad habit of mine for a while.
―― Speaking of relationships between lovers, it’s sort of like when you both can’t bring yourself to say the things you really want to say and end up growing apart because of it.
aiko: Right. In this song, it’s over because they did that and slowly grew apart.
―― In the first half you’re mostly narrating, but then you get to the chorus and the melody soars for a fleeting moment. The words ‘goodbye’ and ‘I love you’ are repeated, and your vocals are so passionate. The surprise attack made my eyes water.
aiko: I sang the second half of it very naturally and emotionally. Is that how people feel way when they hear me? I’d be so happy if that were the case.
―― By the way, when did you write the song?
aiko: It was this February [2016]. This album has a lot of recent songs on it. To me it feels like I was able to make my current everyday life into an album.
―― But there’s a lot more profoundly sad and heartbroken songs on it than usual. (laughs)
aiko: There are, aren’t there? (laughs)
―― You’ve said before that you write sad songs when you’re feeling happy, though.
aiko: Yes. (laughs) It doesn’t matter whether I’m happy or unhappy, I’m able to better immerse myself in writing when I’m having some kind of problem. Being sad or frustrated or negative feeds into that better than being happy, which turns on my songwriting switch.
―― You’re just a very sensitive person. Do you have a really hard time when sad things happen to you?
aiko: I do! (laughs) It only gets easier for me when I’m able to turn it into a song. Lately I’ve been getting letters from people who listen to those songs telling me they feel the same way though. I tell ‘em not to worry about it ‘cause there’s actually quite a few awkward girls out there. Maybe there’s about the same proportion of guys like that out there too. Now I’m like, “Oh well, whatever then!” (laughs)
―― (laughs)
aiko: I have pretty extreme emotional ups and downs, and I tend to nitpick. Even though there might just be a lot of difficult and painful things that happen to me, I just enjoy myself anyway now. It might bother any partner of mine, but even that’s not really a bad thing. (laughs) I’m pretty sure there’s someone out there who can accept me just the way I am.
―― Oh wow, you’ve achieved enlightenment there. Didn’t you say on TV once that an old lover told you that if they dated you, to leave him out of your songs?
aiko: Yeah! That... fell on deaf ears. (laughs)
―― You said it yourself, you get self-contained in your own daydreams. You probably seem very mischievous and flighty from your his point of view. (laughs)
aiko: Hey now! I really do think about what I should be doin’ all the time. (laughs) But it IS true that whatever I’m feeling from moment to moment ends up in the song I’m writing. I have so much fun in my head when I’m alone that sometimes when I go see my lover, I come off really cold. That even makes me feel bad.
―― That’s because you’ve always been so romance-oriented.
aiko: Whaa!? Speaking of which, a long time ago someone told me I’d be in love my whole life. People kept telling me so many times I’ve lost track. And I thought, “That’s not true!” I guess I’m just alright with thinking by myself and playing make-believe in my head.
―― I think no matter which path you end up taking, you’ll be falling in love your entire life.
aiko: You sound like a fortune-teller. (laughs)
Now that I’m over 40, I’d rather just have fun
―― “Kakera no Kokoro (My Heart, in Pieces)” looks back on your teen years, and to me it felt linked to the last track “Aoi Hi (Blue Days)” because the words ‘dream’ and ‘star’ come up in both songs. You keep dreaming all by yourself, but also keep hoping to look at the stars with someone else.
aiko: That was a completely unconscious thing. I think my hopes and prayers came through there.
―― The thought ‘Someday...’ in “Aoi Hi” is pretty hopeful.
aiko: But I’m not sure when that will be. (laughs)
―― When “Yume no Naka no Massugu na Michi (The Straight Path in My Dreams)” came out (in 2005), you talked about wanting to keep walking down the road you were on even though you couldn’t see what was up ahead, which shares ties with the song “Tunnel” (on the album “BABY”). Wouldn’t you say that song is about hoping you’ll be able to walk with someone even though you’ve broken up with your lover, while still walking down the path you personally believe in?
aiko: Yeah, exactly.
―― As I listen to the last track “Aoi Hi”, you’re still walking down that same path now, aiko. And you’re hoping to see the people you’ve met and love so far again someday.
aiko: Different people all walk down their own different paths in life. I just hope I’ll get to see them again in the end, and when I do, I’ve always hoped that I’ll be able to stand there and be proud. I wanna ask them how they’ve been with a smile on my face. It’s something I’ve always thought. There’s a line in “Eriashi (Back of Your Neck” (2003) about it too that goes, “If I find you 5 years from now / I’ll hold my head high and say hello”.
―― That’s right! You joked lately that you’re sort of wanting to get married now. You’ve been walking down your own path. I’m sure you’re just waiting for someone to come along at the right time.
aiko: I am. I definitely wouldn’t get married or nothin’ just ‘cause. Music is an absolute for me. If I fall in love in a split second, it might happen pretty fast though. (laughs)
―― As someone in the same situation, it’s one of those “If it’s not meant to be, it’s not meant to be” sort of things.
aiko: I totally get that! (laughs) Now that I’m over 40, I’d rather just have fun. Although I’ve had plenty of fun already. (laughs)
―― It gives you the guts to say that either way, things will turn out just fine. (laughs)
aiko: It really does! I’m gonna make the whole world try that. (laughs) I wanna have fun whether I’m alone or with somebody. The only thing I can really do when things are hard or sad is enjoy myself anyway. Being like, “Oh, it’s fine! I can just write a song!” helps me brace for the worst. (laughs)
―― Our last question’s pretty standard. (laughs) What are the dreams you’d like to have now, and the view you’d like to see?
aiko: Hmmm. First and foremost would be to stand on stage with a smile after singing my heart out at the very end of a concert.
―― That’s a dream you keep making come true, right?
aiko: But, more. ...Recently I’ve been dreaming about how there’s no such thing as a ticket to show up in the dreams of the guy who’s been on my mind 15 times. (laughs)
―― He’d fall in love with you if he dreamed about you 15 times for sure!
aiko: I’m always thinking to myself, “They don’t sell that.” I want a ticket that makes me appear in his dreams instead of love potions.
―― Wouldn’t a love potion be faster?
aiko: Nah, that’s too direct for me. (laughs)
―― Hahaha!
aiko: I wanna be in the dreams of people I haven’t even met yet. (laughs)

CODE OF CONDUCT
Sorry these are lengthy; a lot of them are standard. TL:DR - I’m 18+, don’t be a jerk, please talk to me!
1. If I seem to have missed our thread, and you’re looking for it and can’t find it, please tell me. I’m extremely scatterbrained, and Tumblr’s hecked up the activity in general.
2. Mun and Muse are both over 18 (Mun is 20). NSFW TOPICS WILL NOT BE WRITTEN WITH ANYONE I AM NOT CERTAIN IS OF AGE. This blog will be occasionally NSFW for adult themes including violence. I will tag for common triggers including blood, death, and violence, but please tell me if there’s something in particular you would like tagged. Triggers are tagged “triggernamehere tw”.
3. My style of writing tends towards para- and multi-para. It’s sometimes difficult to get anything moving in less words than that, unless it’s crack or the like. You needn’t match my length all the time, especially when I get wordy, but if it’s a common imbalance where one side writes a lot more than the other every single time, it might not be right for us to RP. If your writing style tends to be a few lines, then we can try and work something out, but it’s less likely to happen. This isn’t meant to be a comment on the quality of your writing - sometimes, styles just aren’t compatible. And spelling and grammar are fairly important to me; I have a really hard time processing things that are very improperly written - this isn’t meant to be a statement against newer or EL writers, it’s just the way my brain works, and I’m sorry if it comes off that way.
4. RPing is a hobby, and a personal choice. I reserve the right to refuse or discontinue RPs with anyone at any time for any reason, just as others have the right to refuse or discontinue RPs with me. If it’s a permanent thing, I would appreciate a message stating why - and I will NOT take it personally, sometimes things just don’t work out - and will attempt to do the same for others.
5. I am selective with both shipping and RPs, though I am multiship and non-exclusive. I don’t do mains. Ships will be tagged respectively. Alexis is not here just for shipping, and force-shipping without prior discussion will not be tolerated. There’s as much to be explored in friendships, rivalries, camaraderie, and hatred as much as any ship.
6. There is no rule number 6.
7. Please don’t reblog any personal posts, or any RPs that you aren’t a part of. It makes it hard to keep track of replies, and also is just…rude. Please. Anything that’s not personal or directly RP is fair game, though.
8. I’m not a meme archive. I don’t like to be treated like a meme archive. I DO encourage you to reblog memes from me, but if you do it on the regular, send one in every now and again. Please? I don’t actively practice reblog karma, though I do try to either send one in or reblog from source, and would appreciate at least an attempt at the same courtesy. However, if there’s no meme that works for your muse, I WON’T BE MAD IF YOU REBLOG IT FROM ME. Just don’t make it every single one I ever do, with none ever returned. Honestly, it’d be nice to have the activity.
9. My Askbox and IMs are always open, with anon on. Feel free to approach me IC or OOC! Alexis is an OC version of a character that already has intentionally little information revealed about him, and that’s in his main verse! With the Overwatch setting, and all the past verses (as selective as I may be with those), there’s a lot of information you might need, and that’s okay.
10. I read rules, and try to remember to send in passwords. I don’t have a password myself, but if you pop in to say you’ve read my rules, you’ll probably make me smile. I don’t do greeters, because I can’t always keep track of it, and I’m aware sometimes people follow without wanting to IMMEDIATELY RP(especially with an OC; that’s a whole other bucket of bears). I will do starter calls, however, and those are pretty much permanent. They will be tagged “Come One And All : {Starter}”.
11. Don’t godmod. Come on. It’s…whatever year you’re reading this in. If something is unclear about my character or her abilities, or the situation, ask me.
12. Verse will be defaulted to TF2, during Alexis’ long stay with Builder’s League United as a Spy, UNLESS your character is from the Overwatch universe - then verse will default to Overwatch, during the post-Recall era. Any other verses or crossovers desired need to be specifically mentioned at some point. I’m not a mind reader.
13. None of the art that appears on this blog will ever be mine. Any generic images are from google with “usage tools: marked for reuse” on, and I will NEVER claim any art or work not done by me as mine. If I have missed or miscredited a piece of artwork, please contact me asap so I can correct my mistake. Some of the references may be done by me, however. Is it super bad quality? Probably mine.
14. Alexis is, in any timeline and universe, a man who can and has killed (with the exception of the Youth and College timelines). In his two main verses, he is a versed and versatile spy and assassin, with a lifetime of experience in warfare and subterfuge. He can and will fight your muse if provoked, even if it is not his first option, and he is not to be trifled with lightly.

I read a total of 14 books between June 14 & June 27 and there were so many great ones!
All of the books I mention in this video can be found and purchased on my storefront here.
Tumblr media
Quiet Girl in a noisy world by Debbie Tung
4 stars
This is a graphic novel that is basically a series of scenarios that will be very relatable to true introverts. I am much more of an extroverted introvert, so there were some things that I didn’t fully relate to, but I totally understood. The illustrations were adorable and I read this book within an hour. I think this book would make a great gift for your introvert friends who don’t get enough love in this noisy world.
Tumblr media
Can I Come Over by Whitney G
4 Stars
I saw that a friend of mine on bookstagram was reading a couple of Whitney G novels and this was one of them. It definitely inspired me to pick it up since it was my birthday and her novels tend to be short and sweet – like a little treat on a day of relaxation.
This book had so many great romance tropes happening in it. First of all, the heroine, not unlike Whitney G, is a successful author of short, self-published, steamy romance novels. She joins this sort of pen pal ish service that is supposed to be strictly platonic and starts talking to this guy. At first he’s a douche, but then they work things out. Turns out he is her dad’s good friend. So there is a forbidden and age gap scenario.
I have to be honest, I didn’t love this at first. I really didn’t like the way the hero was talking to our heroine at all and I worried he wouldn’t redeem himself.
He did and I ended up really enjoying this. Whitney G does what few authors can when it comes to steamy novellas: she builds chemistry quickly and crafts a believable romance in otherwise outlandish settings. Her and Katee Robert are my two very favorite short, steamy, romance writers for that reason.

When a Scot Ties the Knot by Tessa Dare
5 Stars
I finally did it! I read a Tessa Dare novel and everyone was right. I freaking loved it.
This book is about a woman who is incredibly introverted and to avoid having to do the typical coming out in society thing, she makes up a pretend boyfriend. A Scottish soldier who, it turns out, actually exists.
He has been receiving her letters and learns all about her from them, so when he shows up unexpectedly at the house she inherited because of her fake engagement to him, she’s obviously surprised.
For those who don’t normally like historical romances, I think Tessa Dare is the perfect place to ease your way into the genre. Her heroines aren’t annoyingly innocent and naive. Her books feel modern even though they are not.
This had so many elements of a great romance: fake dating, a little bit of enemies-to-lovers, and an adorable meetcute.
I can’t wait to read more Tessa Dare!
Tumblr media
The Black Flamingo by Dean Atta
5 Stars
This is a coming-of-age memoir about a mixed-race gay teen who eventually finds himself when he discovers drag, written in verse. Obviously I can’t personally speak for the rep in this novel, but I can tell you that it was beautifully written.
I’m a big fan of modern poetry and though I connected a little more with the poetry in The Poet X a little more, I still really liked this one. While I loved the audiobook, I have seen a few pages of the book and I wish I had it as I was reading as well.
I feel like this book is so important for young people to read, to help them see outside of their boxes – or to help them find themselves on page. To help them not feel so alone.
Tumblr media
Cherry Magic
4 stars
My very first official manga was gifted to me by my sweet friend, @genkireader, for my birthday. There was definitely a learning curve when it came to reading this. I was messaging her on Instagram with questions like, “Wait, this book is backwards, where do I start? Do I read right to left or left to right?” It was surprisingly more difficult than I expected, but I REALLY enjoyed this book. So much so that I ended up buying a few more of her favorites.
This book was quirky and cute. It’s about a guy who has developed the power to read people’s mind through touch and he thinks it is because he’s a 30yo virgin. He ends up reading the mind of a charasmatic, good-looking guy in his office and discovers that he is attracted to him. So many adorable moments ensue, a ton of over-thinking and awkwardness, but also super sweet, swoony moments, too. I feel like this will speak to any of us who overthink every little thing when we are falling for someone. Especially when it is unexpected.
Thank you, De’Siree for this gift, it was like you gifted me a piece of yourself because I know how much you love these stories. Lovelovelovelovelove.
Tumblr media
Rafe by Rebekah Weatherspoon
3 Stars
This is a cute romance between a buff, tattooed nanny who begins working for a savant young surgeon and mother of two girls.
This book was fine, though I didn’t see anything special about it. Maybe I gave in a little to the hype surrounding it and that was the issue, but mostly the romance was just ok. I felt like it was a little rushed, I wished there was more pining and more of a forbidden aspect to this, but it seemed like they both gave in pretty quickly.
Tumblr media
Loving Mr. Daniels by Brittany C Cherry
5 stars
This was a super angsty, emotional story about a girl and a guy who are both dealing with terrible tragedy and find solace in each other. The first night they meet is filled with unbelievable chemistry, it’s almost too good to be true.
And it turns out to be. Because it turns out he is her high school teacher.
The heroine was held back in school because of a medical condition, so she is 19 years old and a senior. He is a young teacher, in his early twenties, so the age gap isn’t really a thing, but it doesn’t make it any less forbidden.
When they realize the situation, it’s heartbreaking because of how intense their first meeting was. A series of super angsty things happen and it’s all very intense, but in the best epic love kind of way.
I was rooting for this couple the entire time, but not only that, I loved the heroine’s relationship with her step siblings even with all that drama.
Tumblr media
All American Boys by Jason Reynolds
5 Stars
This is a super relevant fictional story that is somewhat reminiscent of The Hating Game.
This is about a boy in the ROTC in high school who is falsely accused of stealing by a racist, hateful police officer who ends up beating him until he is unconscious which stirs protests in his town that is sick of this constantly happening.
Sound familiar?
What’s interesting about this story is how it follows the perspective both of the victim and a white boy that goes to his school who is linked to the police officer.
I was completely invested in this story, while also cautious. I was super curious about how this book would end. Would it be far too optimistic or would it be realistic?
When I finally came to the end, I very much appreciated it. It was hopeful without being naive. It left questions that we still need answers to, but it didn’t feel too unresolved that it leaves you unsettled. I almost took it as… let’s let current events tell us how this story is going to end.
Tumblr media
The Prince and the Dressmaker by Jen Wang
5 Stars
I read this sweet, heartwarming graphic novel with my girls. They adored it from the very first night we read it before bed.
This story is about a prince who likes to wear dresses and hires, in secret, a dressmaker to make him custom dresses.
I didn’t tell them what it was about, I wanted them to discover it on their own and ask questions as they came up.
Books are an essential parenting tool for me.
The girls begged me every night to keep going. They loved the characters in this book and they were excited to see what was going to happen.
This entire book, but especially the ending was so adorable. I absolutely loved it and can’t wait to read more from this author. Especially if I can share the experience with my girls.
Addicted series books 1 & 1.5 by Krista and Becca Ritchie
5 stars and 4 stars
A lot of my friends have read and loved this series, between that and the premise, I’ve been super excited to read it.
This is about a woman who is a sex addict and her best friend she’s in a fake relationship with who is an alcoholic.
This is a super angsty, dark, gritty series so far with such a strong romance. These are extremely troubled characters who are using their relationship and each other to hide their addictions.
I found this book, ironically enough, addicting to read and I can’t wait to read on in the series.
The second book did seem to drag on a bit, I feel like it could’ve been half as long as it was, but I know it was necessary.
Tumblr media
Take a Hint Dani Brown by Talia Hibbert
5 Stars
I am absolutely LOVING these Brown sisters books! Chloe’s book was fantastic, but I think this one might be my favorite so far.⁣
Dani is a smart, independent savvy woman who is not interested in a long term relationship. Zaf is basically the complete opposite.⁣
The two of them have not had much more than a nice rapport – he’s the security guard at the school she teaches at, until Dani gets trapped in an elevator and Zaf rescues her. This wouldn’t be a big deal if the entire rescue didn’t get caught on film and go viral.⁣
The “going viral” thing seems to be really popular lately and it’s not normally something I would gravitate towed. Honestly, I tend to prefer if romance novels just pretend that social media didn’t exist. I think it’s tricky including anything involving technology in contemporary romance novels only because things change so rapidly, it’s easy to become outdated.⁣
However, I didn’t care what this book was about, I knew I was going to read it and fully expected to love it … and I was right.⁣
As always, Talia’s steamy scenes are SO on point, but more than anything, she writes sweet heroes SO well. I adored Zaf with everything I am. I can’t handle how much I love his side job and that despite being a big guy, he’s a big softie. ⁣
And, of course, I adored Dani. I love how badass and confident and independent she is, even if it does complicate her relationships.⁣
Tumblr media
Becoming by Michelle Obama
5 Stars
I borrowed this on a whim from my library. I’ve been reading a few nonfiction books lately and have enjoyed all that I’ve picked up.⁣
I have to admit, though, I loved this one the most.⁣
I didn’t realize Michelle’s father had MS. As soon as she mentioned his symptoms, my stomach dropped and I just KNEW it. It’s always hard for me to read about people who have Multiple Sclerosis, especially nonfiction because I’m always wondering if that will be me and when.⁣⁣
As a romance reader, I adored Michelle and Obama’s romance. I officially ship them SO hard. Watching their relationship unfold was so satisfying and adorable.⁣
I’m not a big crier while reading, but I got choked up so many times. When she talked about visiting the VA, when she talked about Sandy Hook… it wasn’t overly dramatic, but it was enough to have me covering my mouth with my hand trying not to cry.⁣
I’ve always admired this woman, but even more now than I did before learning more about her. ⁣
Recent Reads: June 14-27 I read a total of 14 books between June 14 & June 27 and there were so many great ones!

Hi I’m Kevin Burch,
Despite having presided over 100 funerals and delivered around 80 eulogies, I’ll never forget the first time I was asked to write a Eulogy.
It was for Tom, my grandfather. When Tom died, my sense of loss was overwhelming. Suddenly I was faced with writing and delivering a eulogy for the first time in my life, in just a few days time.
I stared at the blank page and began to quietly panic… I was desperate to do a great job.
I deeply wanted and needed to deliver a Eulogy that would be remembered, but I wasn’t sure how. Tom had been like a father to me and now he was gone. His life was so full, and he had done so much, that it was hard to know where to start and how to describe him.
In fact, it was hard to find any words at all, let alone words that would do justice to his memory; words that I would have to present to a room full of people that loved him too. I was feeling pretty emotional and wanted to “keep it together” on the day so I could do my best, and that was nerve-racking to say the least.
You may be in a similar situation yourself as you read this. If so, you have come to the right place…
Writing a eulogy feels like a huge responsibility, doesn’t it? Maybe you are experiencing something similar to how I felt when faced with saying Tom’s final farewell. You’ll be feeling very honored that you have been asked, whilst at the same time nervous and maybe a little apprehensive about writing a eulogy, and perhaps also a little anxious about speaking in public.
You’ll probably be asking questions like:
Will I say the right thing?
What if I miss out something important?
What if I’m too nervous or upset on the day?
Where & How do I start?
and…
What will people think of my speech, will they like it?
Also, you may well be short on time; you’ll likely be helping others to cope, dealing with arrangements for the service, whilst feeling emotionally fragile yourself. Don’t worry, I have been there too.
That is when writing a Eulogy can begin to feel like a real struggle. You don’t want to rush it or ‘wing it’ on the day, but you are just lost for words right now and not sure where to start.
It won’t surprise you to hear that writing my first eulogy, without any help, guidance or experience, took me a long time. And I found it a very tough job.
“…the vicar said ‘Bravo’ and started to clap…”
But it doesn’t have to be like that.
“I read my Eulogy at my Father’s funeral service last Tuesday and after all my angst writing it, and with the wonderful confidence your book gave me, the vicar said ‘Bravo’ at the end of it and started to clap, which in turn started off the whole congregation in the chapel!
I was taken aback, it was very very appreciated and totally unanticipated as I had been extremely nervous standing next to my Father’s coffin to speak. However, I was sooooo completely happy and totally satisfied that I had gone through with it.
I had pushed through the pain barrier and it was an emotional journey to even write it let alone stand up and say it, as I know you totally understand. So THANK YOU SO MUCH again for this book, as it pointed me in the right direction and gave me confidence to do it. It was an astounding experience for me in more ways than one!”
Glynis Brown Plymouth, UK
Just like Glynis you too can experience this process in a way that enables you to deliver a Eulogy that feels like a great honor and a precious gift.
Now, you are the person that has been called upon to give the final tribute and farewell- to celebrate a person’s life and commemorate their passing. It seems a daunting task I know, but at the same time this can be a very healing and rewarding process if you have the right support to guide you through.
The easiest and best way to get your Eulogy written is if you follow a tried and tested framework that helps you set everything out in order.
That’s the beauty of “How to Easily Write and Deliver a Great Eulogy in 6 Simple Steps”– It takes away the doubts and worries you may have right now about what to write, how to say what you feel, and what order to put things in.
Me with Tom on my wedding day– six months before he died
Although it felt overwhelming at first, in the end I was so grateful and honored that I had delivered Tom’s Eulogy.
His loved ones really appreciated having such a memorable and meaningful tribute to the man they loved.
It felt good to know that I was somehow instrumental in that… and I was deeply moved
…In fact, Tom’s funeral and eulogy had such an effect on me that since then I have trained as a professional funeral presider. (I lead funerals and take the role traditionally filled by a priest).
Since Tom’s funeral I have taken almost 100 funerals and written, advised on, and delivered nearly as many eulogies! For me it is a great privilege to share my experience and expertise with others in these difficult times, and it is especially rewarding to receive feedback such as:
“…it was everything I could have wanted for Owen’s farewell.”
“Dear Kevin,
Thank you so much for the lovely way the good-bye service was conducted for Owen. The presentation by you was super.
For me, it was everything I could have wanted for Owen’s farewell.
The following day Paul [son] was stopped several times by friends who said they had “enjoyed” it so much (if that is the right word).
My best wishes go with you for the future.
Take care”
Lilian Davies (age 83) Bristol, UK

When You Discover The Little Known Secrets Inside This Handy Guidebook You’ll Be Able To Create A Well Written, Well Delivered Eulogy, And That Really Does Make All The Difference:
I know how a personal, well crafted, and confidently delivered Eulogy can make all the difference at a funeral. I mean, let’s put it in perspective … Can you imagine a total stranger doing speeches at your own or a loved one’s Wedding?- It would feel impersonal, cold, and distant… as though an element of something special was missing…Am I right? Well it is the same at a funeral, don’t you agree? A personal eulogy warms the heart and reassures us that though our loved one has passed their memories truly will live on.
So you can see how important this is, and how much of a privileged position you now hold as you fulfill this opportunity to pay homage to someone’s life.
No matter how hard this time is for you, I can reassure you that my years of experience as a trained & professional funeral presider and the number of Eulogies I have written and delivered allow me to guide you to creating not just a Eulogy that you can be proud of, but a Eulogy that will touch all those who hear it and will be well received, appreciated, and remembered forever.
“The information you made available was of enormous help getting through a difficult time.”
“Dear Kevin,
Thank you so much for your wonderful guide. The information you made available was of enormous help getting through a difficult time. The death of a loved one is such an emotional event that to compose a meaningful eulogy during this time of mourning is a most difficult task.
Not only did I compose a wonderful tribute to a remarkable man I had so many people compliment me for not only the content of the eulogy but the way it was delivered. This was only made possible by your wonderful publication.
Many thanks.”
Geoff Watkins Vancouver, Canada
If you are nervous not just about the content, but also about the delivery of your Eulogy, then don’t worry, it’s quite natural. To help with this I have compiled a special bonus to guide you through four little-known and powerful techniques that will enable you to deliver your eulogy with grace and confidence, no matter how upset you might be feeling inside.
You will be able to do your job and ‘keep it together’, thanks to these expert, easy to follow tools that are simple and very effective. As speaking to you as a professional speaker, I can assure you that just reading this bonus guide will make you feel relieved and confident that you will be able to deliver your speech to the best of your ability!
Tumblr media
In all the years that I have been conducting Eulogies and presiding at funerals I now have experienced many beautiful, powerful Eulogies, and I have also seen and heard Eulogies that unfortunately failed to really commemorate the deceased. Usually this was because of one or two simple mistakes that could have easily been avoided. Such a shame!
Simply ensuring you have met the 6 steps in this guide is the difference between a beautiful, memorable tribute to a person, and a eulogy that is disappointing to say the least.
But how do you make sure that you get it right? In “How to Easily Write and Deliver a Eulogy in 6 Simple Steps” I go over in detail the keys to a great Eulogy and how you can get it spot on:
The guide is clear and simple and takes you from staring at your blank piece of paper right up to your delivery of the speech on the day of the funeral.
All you need to do is simply follow the 6 simple steps one by one. You’ll be guided by the hand on exactly what to do in a manner that is gentle, clear, and straight to the point, to make this as easy as possible for you.
You see to write the Eulogy there genuinely are only 6 steps you really need to know to guarantee you get it right:
1. Take a moment for yourself (to be in the right mood – I’ll show you how to do this in less than 60 seconds, no matter how emotional you may feel)
2. Decide the kind of eulogy you want to create (this is a crucial step that many people miss out- and at yet it’s so simple)
3. Gather the information you need (I’ll tell you the questions to ask – you choose which ones work best for you)
4. Bring it all together into a flowing whole (a simple process, once you have the framework)
5. Rehearse and refine your speech (I’ll show you some easy, confidence-boosting ways to do this)
6. Deliver the eulogy (my on-the-day checklist and practical tips will smooth the way for you)
OK, But What If I Am Really in A Rush Or Totally Stuck?
If you are staring at a blank screen with no idea what to write, if you feel overwhelmed by the task at hand and too emotional to do this, or if you have left it to the last minute and are panicking, then don’t worry. I have included a “fill in the blanks” template for you to use.
This is how you can write your eulogy in just an hour or two. ..
All you need to do is fill in the gaps with the personal details. Everything is ready for you to add your own anecdotes, personal memories and whatever you wish, but the core structure of the speech is done for you. This will give you complete peace of mind that your Eulogy is clear, cohesive and flows as a whole, so that everyone listening will understand and be taken on a memorable journey. But, don’t worry – it will be personal and meaningful, because you will be adding all the particular details about the individual’s character and qualities, and choosing from the many poems and quotes the ones that are relevant for you.
There is a selection of templates ready for you, so whether you are writing to remember someone young or old, male or female and whether they passed under natural circumstances or difficult circumstances, you will be prepared.
“…I want you to know how useful I have found your book.”
“Dear Kevin,
I want you to know how useful I have found your book. I was asked to write and deliver a eulogy for someone under difficult circumstances. He had only one relative and she felt unable to stand up and speak in public. The widow trawled through her friends and came up with me as I am used to public speaking. I was at a loss but your book with its examples enabled me to write and deliver a fitting tribute to a lovely man.
Thanks again”
Susan Carter, Staffordshire, UK
When you know that your speech will be just great- because the panic of what to say when, and just as importantly what NOT to say, is out of the way- then you can really enjoy your task, and make your role truly fulfilling and rewarding.
Read below what Beryl had to say about the eulogy she was to write for her father
“I could not have done it without the support of your fabulous book.”
“Dear Kevin,
I have tonight written my first draft of the eulogy for my Father. I could not have done it without the support of your fabulous book. Many kind thanks for sharing your wisdom and experience, you have taken the stress out of the job, and I have actually enjoyed writing it!!”
Beryl Wainwright London, UK
Tumblr media
To make it even easier for you Chapters 6 & 7 includes 27 poems and 71 quotes, all perfect for using in your speech. The poems and quotes I have added here are accessible to everyone. Many of them are really well known, you might not even realize you know them until you hear them! All of them are poignant, personal and reassuring.
A carefully chosen verse will bring a special touch to your Eulogy. In fact, you might even find that they express sentiments you are trying to say both simply and eloquently, in a way that really compliments your speech.
Even if you don’t usually like poetry you may be surprised how much comfort you can take from the specially selected poems listed here, and how much you enjoy choosing the perfect one for the eulogy you are writing.
Having all these wonderful quotes, from the likes of Churchill to Jimi Hendrix, and beautiful verse from poets including W.H.Auden, Kahlil Gibran, Tennyson and Christina Rossetti among others, is sure to save you hours of time trawling the internet for famous or suitable phrases or lines of verse. You’ll find many of the most famous, meaningful and most celebrated poems at your fingertips, reproduced in the book for speed and convenience.
Having a proven template ensures that you will not miss any of the important details you are anxious to include. There are immeasurable advantages to having this support when you are writing, many of them intangible which may not truly become obvious until after you have delivered your eulogy. Imagine the sense of pride and achievement that comes from knowing you did a great job.
“… I know that without reading your material I would have failed my Mom miserably.”
“Kevin,
Today I had the pleasure of doing what I thought would be impossible. It is hard enough to lose a loved one, even more so when 3 weeks ago we thought Mom would be on the road to recovery!
I followed your PDF file and paid attention to sections 5 and 6 again then read the excellent Public Speaking information you also included in the PDF.
I found it a less daunting experience than I thought it would be, I know that without reading your material I would have failed my Mom miserably. I can only say that your information works. I am a big doubter on these things, maybe a person who tends to look for “catches” etc, but this is very good and helped me perform a eulogy that I thought I was incapable of doing.
Writing what I wanted to say is maybe the easy part, saying it to a large audience is the hard part, delivering it with the right amount of feeling, emotion and compassion was the part I would fail.
I did not. and I was pleased to hear people thank me for a speech I never dreamed I could have done. The only good thing that I can take from today was I did not let my Mother down.
Once again Kevin, thank you.
Best wishes, Tony”
Tony Madge Tamworth, UK
Don’t make the mistake of just trying to “wing it” and hope for the best. To deliver a warm, loving and sentimental speech does take a little preparation, but it doesn’t have to take long or drain you emotionally. It can be a great pleasure, and in 1 hour or less you can be ready to go.
“Your book is excellent and I am very happy I bought the entire guide.”
“Thank you Kevin! Your book is excellent and I am very happy I bought the entire guide. It is a great resource to own and it is full of wonderful tips for anyone having or wanting to give a eulogy.
Thank you and best wishes.”

This blog will be occasionally NSFW for adult themes including sex and violence. I will tag for common triggers including blood, death, rape, and violence, but please tell me if there’s something in particular you would like tagged. Triggers are tagged “tw triggernamehere”.
This OC is not here just for shipping, and force-shipping without prior discussion will not be tolerated.
I know that I have an OC, which means there aren’t exactly pages of prewritten references beyond the 13 pages on here, and there will be questions. I don’t bite unless you bite first. I track #loosedhope.
12. All threads will be assumed to be in main verse unless previously discussed or otherwise indicated. If you’d like to interact with her as Soulclaw working for Talon, or in the verse where she is losing control of her abilities, please say so - in asks/starters, adding “Talon Verse”/“Talon?” or “Loosed Verse”/“Loosed?” to the end would be sufficient.
13. None of the art that appears on this blog will ever be mine. Any generic images are from google with “usage tools: marked for reuse” on, and I will NEVER claim any art or work not done by me as mine. If I have missed or miscredited a piece of artwork, please contact me asap so I can correct my mistake. Some of the references may be done by me, however - things like the scar reference. Is it super bad quality? Probably mine.
Talon Suit Reference drawn by: @blubloodmedic
14. Mallory has a soft heart, but that does not mean she will roll over for you. She’s been hurt before, she knows she will be hurt again, and if cornered, she WILL fight back. Don’t think that just because she’d rather be gentle if she could, she won’t get rough. Mallory WILL rip you apart, and mourn you later, when she’s safe and alive. (This goes doubly so for Talonverse - Soulclaw does not have the luxury of mercy). I am absolutely here for darker topics with her - in fact, it might be difficult for her to consider anything too gentle after what she’s been through. Her outlook may be forcedly, intentionally, and knowingly naive, but don’t handle her with kid gloves. Challenge her. Spite her. Grind her into the dust for daring to believe, and see what happens when you’ve lost your last second chance.
15. To clear up concerns: Mallory’s backstory does NOT require her to have previous interaction with any canon character/OC unless the player of that character wishes otherwise. She may have been created by Talon, but she was very low on the totem pole, and would not have NECESSARILY had interaction with the higher-level agents or doctors. This can be changed, of course, and there is plenty of room for interaction with the Talon elite (and that’s something I’d love), but I never assume pre-interaction with anyone, so if you WANT pre-interaction, feel free to talk to me about it!
