Season 7 filler scenes

Well everything sucks right now but be that as it may I had this idea and I wanted to put it down. Also I started watching S19 from the beginning on Hulu, hoping that helps with streaming numbers.

But anyway what I came to realize is that the intimate scenes between Jack and Maya were way more gritty and barely had any cut aways like what usually happens with Maya and Carina. And let me just say I was pissed off when I realized this.

Also ended up watching some of Stefanias scenes pre-S19 on Grey's and the character of Carina had this lightness about her. The whispering in Arizonas ear and the jokes. They made her character lose some of that when she joined S19.

The same for Maya. Like why didn't we get some steamy scenes in the station and them joking and flirting with each other. It really was heavy and emotional from the get go. Maybe that showed some depth to their relationship but I would have loved to see them be flirty and sexy with each other in the beginning of their relationship.

Anywho I wanted to write this filler which might lead to more.

Scene opens with the team jumping out of the trucks. Another successful call. It's been a while since the whole team has felt this good after a call.

"NINETEEN!" Vic hollers out with a smile on her face.

The entire crew hollers back.

"NINETEEN!"

"Great job team. Hopefully we can make it through these next few hours left of shift without another call." Andy says to the team as they gather together to walk up to the beanery.

"Cap! Don't jinx us!" Travis cried back to Andy.

Maya smiled back at her team as she pulled to the back of the group and started up the stairs.

Pulling her phone out of her pocket, Maya's heart jumped a bit at seeing a notification from her wife. Her possibly pregnant wife. Carina. Just the sound of her name made Maya's heart flutter. They were texting back and forth the whole day. They both decided that tonight was the night to take a home pregnancy test. Carina was showing signs but they both didn't want to jinx anything.

"I can't stop thinking about you the entire day, Bambina." Maya read the message from Carina.

Maya had her head down, biting the inside of her cheek. Her team was ahead of her about to enter the beanery. She was just about to text her wife back when a pair of hands pulled her into the small office just before the beanery doors.

The door slammed shut behind Maya and she came face to face with her wife. Carina had the biggest smile on her face, biting her lip.

"Hello Lieutenant Bishop."

Maya took a moment to recalibrate.

"Uhh hi, what are you doing?"

Carina bit her lip and leaned more into Maya, pushing her flash against the door. Her hands sneaking under the tight navy blue shirt.

"Like I said I couldn't stop thinking about you the entire day."

Maya let out a small groan. Her wife was an absolute goddess. How did she get so lucky?! A constant thought that ran through Maya's mind.

"Hmm is that so? Anything in particular you couldn't stop thinking about?" Maya said with a sly grin on her face.

"Oh you know... just the usual... these beautiful eyes and smile... these lips... oh how I love these lips..."

The blush that spread over Maya's face and neck couldn't be contained. She'd never had someone dote over her the way Carina did. Sure she'd been called beautiful before. Some had even spoken about how blue her eyes were. Usually it was a means to get in her pants. Although sometimes Carina did do it in that way too but Maya knew that when Carina said these things about her it came from a love that they shared so deeply for each other. Two souls destined to be together forever.

"Well I can confirm that these lips missed you very very much today." Maya said back keeping eye contact with Carina.

"Anything else..." Maya urged her on.

"Oh these arms. I haven't stopped thinking about them either. Bambina, you're too sexy! I can't handle it sometimes." Carina chuckled a bit.

Before Carina knew what was happening, Maya bent down a bit, gripped her wife around her thighs and easily picked her up.

"Do you mean these arms?" Maya cockily said as she effortless held Carina up and then proceeded to walk further into the room.

Carina felt that swoop down deep in her belly. She placed one arm over Maya's shoulders and the other gripped her bicep.

"The things you do to me Maya Bishop!" Carina said with a grin so wide on her face. "Mi fai bagnare così tanto, Tesoro."

Staring into Maya's eyes, Carina could see the bright blue turn dark in an instant. She knew what she was doing to her wife.

"Hmm babe. Kiss me!" Maya whispered against Carina's lips.

Her grip turned harder on Carina's thighs as soft lips descended onto hers.

There they were, standing in a small office. Maya holding Carina, and possibly their baby, in her arms. Against her body. Chest to chest. She could feel Carina's heart racing against hers.

Maya placed Carina on the office table, knocking off a tray filled with paper. She couldn't care less because Carina was kissing her in a way that no one ever had. No one ever will again.

Reaching back Maya tore off her shirt and then reached to do the same to Carina. Standing between he wife's legs, Maya gripped under Carina's knee and pulled her in tighter. Feeling their hips line up together. Maya couldn't help but grind into Carina. Legs locked behind her back. Lips pressed together. Heaven! Just pure heaven!

"Hey, where did Bishop disappear..." Vic said out loud only to be stopped in her tracks by the sound of something loud clattering to the floor. The team looked towards the direction of the small hardly ever used office.

"Carina snuck in as we were pulling in." Travis said to the group as they all stared out with wide eyes.

"Ok how about we head into the lounge and put the TV on - very loud."

A guttural moan could be heard in that moment.

They all scurried quickly to the lounge.

About 20 minutes later, Maya and Carina walked into the beanery - tucking in shirts and trying to tame their sex hair. Maya entered the lounge whilst Carina went to get a snack from the kitchen.

Maya stood at the door of the lounge a small grin plastered on her face. The team stopped for a second, looked up at her and cheered loudly.

"BISHOP! You dog! Getting some on tax payer time!" Vic hollered out.

Maya couldn't help the grin on her face. She tried to down play it,

"We were just talking." She took a seat on the one seater in the corner, knowing Carina would likely sit on her lap.

"Talking... sure... is that what the kids are calling it these days." Ben laughed out loud.

In walked Carina, snacking on a mini pack of chocolate cookies. Another round of cheering and hollering was directed at her. She smiled and high fived Vic as she walked straight to Maya. Taking a seat in her lap. Maya wrapped an arm around her wife. She couldn't help but feel like the luckiest woman in the world.

"Nothing happened you weirdos. We were just talking." She said to the group again.

"Sure, Bambina. We were just talking." Carina looked down at her wife, biting the corner of her lip. She picked up a cookie, took a bite, then fed the rest to Maya.

Another 30 minutes went by - the team were hoping to make it out of their shift without another call. Carina had finished her cookies and then leaned into Maya's neck falling asleep. Maya listened to Travis and Vic arguing about something though she couldn't quite hear it. All she could think about was that her wife smelled so good and she was so warm. She turned her head a bit and kissed Carina on the forehead. Vic turned and looked at Maya,

"You guys are actual goals."

Maya could only agree.

Andy walked in at that moment,

"We have a wellness check - Bishop and Warren you're on. You have 5 minutes then head out."

Maya nodded. She pressed her hand to Carina's stomach to slowly wake her,

"Babe, I have to go. We have a call. Ben and I."

Carina scrunched up her eyebrows not wanting to wake up.

"Baby. C'mon. Why don't you wait for me here if you are tired, then we can go home. Shouldn't be too long."

Vic stared at the scene in front of her,

"Who are you and what have you done with Bishop!?"

Maya squinted at Vic almost to say that this was always the real her. The real version that only Carina was able to bring out.

Maya and Carina stood up together. They could all see how tired Carina was and all agreed that she probably should not drive home.

"Need help carrying her to bunk there, Bishop?" Jack said out loud.

Maya looked up and squared her shoulders,

'That would be a no, Gibson. I can carry my wife myself thank you very much."

Maya lifted Carina easily into her arms and made her way out to the bunks.

Carina again tucked her face into Maya's neck breathing her in.

Maya placed her gently on the bunk and leaned over to kiss her forehead,

"Sleep my love. I'll be back before you know it."

Carina looked up into her wife's beautiful eyes and caressed her cheek.

"Sei bellisima. Be safe ok."

"It's just a wellness check. Ben and I will be quick. We'll go home and take that test yeah?"

Maya placed her hand on Carina's stomach, leaning down to kiss it. Carina smiled and nodded, watching her wife walk out the room.

It was a love so big they couldn't contain it with just the both of them anymore, it needed to be passed over onto something else. That being their baby. Carina smoothed her hand over her stomach.

Maya reached into her pocket for her phone whilst she and Ben were packing up ready to head back to the station and finally clock out.

"Bambina, I'm going to head home. Let's have a romantic evening before we take the test."

Maya smiled. Her wife's love for planning romantic gestures was the wonderful thing about her. It took some time to get used to her love language. It was such an endearing quality that Carina had.

She texted back,

"Sure thing, my love. We're just heading back to the station. See you in a bit."

Carina nodded along to the radio as she drove back towards their apartment. Ideas of what the night would entail swimming through her mind.

Before she knew it a car swiped her from the side. A bright white light in her eyes then turned to pitch black darkness.

The last thought on her mind was Maya.

i don't think that anyone pre-canon would've watched it but, you know, post-canon everyone lives au, afterlife, take your pick either works!!!

mischa: as previously stated, stefania by kalush orchestra (ukraine 2022) is his top of all time. wikipedia describes its genre as "alternative hip hop and folk" which is basically this song is awesome/talia. it being a tribute to the frontman's mother also deeply resonates with him, missing his own mother. other favourites include soldi (italy 2019), dark side (finland 2021), lie to me (czech republic 2018) and kuula (estonia 2012) because... in addition he loves everything ukraine's sent (aside from 2012. imagine being able to have pride and audience support for practically every entry from your country). he just finds so much enjoyment and nostalgia in it (ie me projecting onto my fave). he was so surprised when noel knew about it and that he had a buddy in this uranium hellhole to chat about it. has a crush on alexander rybak (norway 2009) and chanel (spain 2022). he still does not realise he is bisexual. he starts a betting pool with the choir for each new contest (and all the ones only he and noel have seen. the two get sad at first that they can't participate with those ones, but then decide to fuck with them)

noel: his winner of 2022 was in corpore sano (serbia) for The Drama and The Art, but he also supported fulenn because france (the man was so disappointed when they got second last). his all time favourite is l'enfer et moi (france 2013), because frenchwoman singing about how she would make her ex's life hell meant that he could graft on his dreams to that. because he's canadian i don't think he grew up with it like mischa, i think that he went down a youtube rabbithole when the march he turned 14 somehow or other and fell in love. he loves all the songs like n'oubliez pas (france 2015), voila (france 2019), tout l'univers (switzerland 2019), and bonds with mischa over zitti e buoni (italy 2021 who am i kidding everyone knows måneskin, thanks to @curious-georg for that idea!!!). sometimes he puts on playlists of the earlier competitions while he's studying to imagine a morning in france. has a crush on half the male entrants.

i haven't thought through how the rest of the choir gets exposed to it because it's pretty much a "after canon once they're friends, wherever they are, au or not i don't know". but basically i have a feeling that one time on movie night it's mischa's turn and he brings along the 2021 contest (because it's one of the best of the most recent and the hosts are so good) and noel goes BATSHIT and everyone else is just like "hey... what?? this is four hours long" and then it starts and they end up really enjoying it, with them going through all the contests (sometimes on mischa's night, sometimes on noel's, a couple for constance's too) and watching them live (because i said so)

ricky: they love the entries that are just a lil quirky. a lil different. their favourite from 2022 was eat your salad (latvia), mainly because the audience *screamed* out "PUSSY" to fight the censors (eurovision is a family friendly competition). the peak songs for them were at the start of semi 1 and then it all went downhill from there. and their goat? space (montenegro 2017). if you haven't seen that video, bestie, you should. they really do watch it for the memes, epic sax guy (run away aka moldova 2010), anti-crisis girl (ukraine 2009), "but in the end, they didn't" (the 2019 host talking to that year's cypriot contestant about cyprus coming in second in 2018).

constance: her 2022 winners were not the same (australia) and i am what i am (malta) because she loves the expression of the internal self and hearing peoples' emotions through the melodies. her all time favourites are monsters (finland 2018) and cry no more (netherlands 2017) because of how both are personal, one is upbeat in its self-empowerment, while the other is about familial love and support. she relates to and desires both. otherwise, anything with a gay kiss. she screamed at the full-on makeout session that occurred during this time (lithuania 2015). and marry me (finland 2013) made her VERY happy for that kiss at the end. even then, it takes her a while to realise she is Not Straight.

ocean: her 2022 winner was hold me closer (sweden), then river (poland) because it genuinely moved her, then die together (greece). she hates I.M (israel) with a burning passion, and everyone except her sees the irony in that. from other years she loves last dance (greece 2021), only teardrops (denmark 2013), popular (sweden 2011), lipstick (ireland 2011) and euphoria (sweden 2012). she has a spreadsheet ranking her placements for each year they watch, as well as the rest of the choir, and uses that to predict the results of the betting pool mischa started. sweden and greece are in her top five every year. she put if i were sorry as her first place when they were watching the 2016 edition and mischa refuses to talk to her for the rest of the night (this one actually isn't me projecting i just think it'd be funny).

penny/jane: because this idea isn't super-solidified, and her character isn't either, it's hard to know. i think that she's a menace and loves the voice cracks and mistakes (i feel bad if i direct people to certain entries for that!!! but if you know, you Know). the best guess i have is that her favourite 2022 entry is miss you (belgium) because of the religious allegory and shifting genres (like in the ballad of jane doe), but i will take suggestions!!

I roll my eyes as he throws my shoe back 3x harder just missing my head "he's my brother" he responds walking off into the wine cellar "the brother you sought to kill not even a decade ago, shut up" i say to him before jogging up to Stefan's room.

"hey, you ready to go?" I ask Stefan, he and I had been planning to go out to lunch with Klaus and Elijah for a while. Since the Salvatores were failing miserably i'd be there decoy, of course not for Damon, mainly for Stefan.

"not yet, you're 4 hours early, y/n." Stefan spins around after pushing up his 'hero' hair.

"still." I tap my foot against the ground "you also need to take your daily dose of vervain" he says handing my a small vile, I drink the vile handing it back to him "i may be human but god that taste is putrid" i mumble, I had been taking vervain everyday for a few months now.

Just because it made sense to, especially since I now know of the supernatural.

We walk downstairs as Damon attacks us from behind, wrapping his arms around mine and stefan's shoulders "what's the plan guys" he asks sarcastically, acting as if he wasn't already listening.

Walking away from Damon I kick his shin "don't touch me." I say aggressively, looking to Stefan then kicking Damon once more as he lets go of his younger brother "and him" I say protecting the younger Salvatore brother.

"i could just rip you apart, here, right now." Damon crosses his arms "cut it out Damon." Stefan says rolling his eyes "do it, pussy." I narrow my eyes to Damon who scoffs walking off again.

"i'm still surprised you have the guts to talk to him like that, not even Elena would." Stefan chuckles sitting down on the sofa as I stand in front of him "yeah, well Elena is like i dont know she does when she gets angry. She gets parley." crossing my arms sitting down next to him.

Damon walks back in front of us, holding two bourbon bottles in his hand "y/n, pick one." he commands "the left one" I mumble "poor taste, right was the right answer." he laughs to himself, I pick up a book and throw it at him "i'm right, you're wrong." I say sternly "yes ma'am" he says placing one bottle down, handing the other to me.

"drink it" he says pointing to the bottle, Stefan snatches it out of my hand "what, Damon no." Stefan says placing the bottle on the ground "well she has to have something to get through the meeting" Damon says relaxing back on the sofa opposite of Stefan and I.

"i need it everytime i'm around you, vervain barely cuts it." i lie to him, vervain didn't even cut the bare minimum "liar" he whispers and I roll my eyes "Stefan doesn't need to come with you anyways, what is he going to do flick he hero hair and save the day?" "and if he does, who is stopping him." I lean forward.

"nobody." rolling my eyes. "you fascinate me" Damon points to me "Here we go" Stefan says getting up and walking back to his room "oh god" placing my hand on my forehead, rubbing it annoyed.

"how is it, even the strongest humans i know, won't insult me. Yet, you insult me with every chance you get." Damon leans forward, glancing up at me from his glass of bourbon "because i'm not scared of you." I cross one leg over the other.

"surely you have some sort of worry that I might, accidently kill you." Damon says shrugging as he leans back into the sofa "nope, not one." I smile to him "It's my brother isn't it, you know he'd avenge you." Damon says thinking he caught onto something.

"That's a good reason but its not the reason." standing up getting ready to walk away "well surely there is a reason." he says stopping me "course theres a reason, I just don't feel like disclosing the reason." I smirk before walking to the fireplace.

I had to stay here for Stefan, there was not many rooms in this house despite its size.

"can you two cut it out already. It's causing my ears to bleed." Stefan groans from upstairs "believe me Stef, I'm trying to ignore him. His voice is just as annoying as his face." I huff staring into the blazing fire.

Glaring at Damon, I walk past him up to Stefan's room. Sitting down next to Stefan on his bed.

"did you really leave him by himself?" Stefan asks me "yes?" I reply "no" Damon bursts through the door.

"how about I take you out, y/n, i can show you how un-annoying i am." he says "impossible." I mumble, snatching Stefan's book out of his hand "you talk to him, he's your brother." I continue to mumble as Stefan rolls his eyes at me.

"Y/n won't go out with you, even you know that." Stefan says getting of his bed walking to his balcony, pushing the doors open "well then i need to prove just how annoying i am not." Damon throws his arms up "this is usually the part where she tells you to 'stuff it in places i wouldn't'" Stefan dusts his hands off, sitting back down next to me.

"i'm not talking to you Saint Stefan." Damon says turning to face me, I continue to ignore him "I wont kill anyone for a month, if you go out with me." Damon bargains "no" Stefan talks on my behalf "beat it Buzzkill Bob" he insults his brother.

"Buzzkill, I know you aren't talking." finally looking up to the irritating villainous brother "she speaks again" he smirks "he still doesnt stop talking... again." I mumble.

"too bad you can't compel yourself a date with me."

"why exactly have you brought this into my room?" Stefan questions us "if only this room was in my name so he couldn't come in." I huff "fine" getting of Stefan's bed, placing the book on the bed, shoving past the brothers and walking down the stairs.

"i'm going home until further notice."

The prevailing thought - even amongst Italy's contender Mahmood - is that the Ukraine will win as it sends a good message to support the country during wartime. We'll just wait and see.

Mahmood & BLANCO's fates will be decided tomorrow, but they're riding the "Brividi" wave a bit longer: they've released a remix to their Eurovision entry.

-Last year's winners Måneskin released a new single - the Max Martin produced "Supermodel", which they will perform.

They will also perform a cover of Elvis Presley's "If I Can Dream" which will be on the soundtrack to the upcoming ELVIS directed by Baz Luhrman (MOULIN ROUGE, STRICTLY BALLROOM, ROMEO + JULIET). The soundtrack - filled with Elvis covers - also features Doja Cat doing "Vegas" which samples "Hound Dog" and Kacey Musgraves who covers "I Can't Help Falling in Love With You." Their inclusion was fated: Damiano and Elvis share a birthday.

Station 19 - 4.14 “Comfortably Numb”

Even though Maya and Carina got quite some scenes together I did not like the first half of the episode. Now don’t fight me on this yet, just hear me out! 

In my opinion the first part was extremely poorly written and it bothered the crap out of me. There were timeline errors (parents back together for months while it’s still only around june 2020) and borderline continuity mistakes (Maya never been in a relationship with a woman, while she called Nicky her ex), not to mention the unnecessary extra drama by making Carina pack all her kitchen stuff (cause you know, they don’t have that in Italy). Oh and let’s not forget more sex with their clothes on - though I won’t lie: I did like that couch move they made.

And above all there was this shitload of information about huge subjects like parents being back together, (not) coming out, marriage and babies, pointing out once again that this people really never ever talk.

But that turned out to be an actual subject! They even made Maya say it: “We learned more about each other in the past two hours...” And that was what made me scream: “halleluja, thank you & good night!”

Yes people, we were actually getting somewhere!

The big fight scenes were both excellent! I admit, at the start I was a bit “over it” with Maya having to apologize once again like everything is always her fault, but that didn’t take long as Carina actually seemed aware of this and shared some blame. More growths, yay! The whole subject probably deserves its own post, but I really liked how Carina - as expected - didn’t want to marry for a visa, and (especially) how she described that living with Maya already is marriage to her. 

The acting of Danielle as well as Stefania was top notch, especially during those fight scenes, proving once again how great those scenes can be. Cause boy, can they make us feel! Really: chef’s kiss!

And then there it was: the final scene. Except for the spinning camera (really? we’re still doing that in 2021? ;) ) I admit it was pretty wonderful. As I wrote a few weeks ago: I don’t want them to get married for a visa, of out of fear, but for nothing else than the absolute need to be together. And despite the fact that the visa issue still played a big part here I can not deny that they made me feel that need. So no, I’m (still) not the biggest fan of the solution, but I am glad that at least I got to see and feel that emotion.

(I’m also glad that Gabriella was no villain here. And that Jack doesn’t seem too thrilled about his - imo - way too boring relationship. One thing though: people don’t dream when being under anesthesia, it’s impossible. Imagine these writers doing their research, huh...)

(edit: honorable mention for the scene with the balls! I was so distracted the first time I watched that I totally missed it, but that scene was gold - and I think this show can use a lot more of this, especially if they keep going with the heavy topics.)

The live was super short and more to promo Rebel than anything else, but the tone was super light and playful. They did say they missed each other and Danielle told Stefania she needed to come back to 19's set instead of Grey's, but they were shooting with each other 24 hours prior :) Paris posted some BTS pics from shooting this past week with just Stefania and Danielle and he's the director for 4x16 so I think that should quell some worries since they only have 10 days of filming left.

Ooh, I see, right, right, Rebel. Ah, okay, thanks, anon! Such a informational answer, you gave me everything I was looking for and that definitely does ease some of my worries at least. I’m assuming 4x16 is the season finale so yeah, it looks like they still are together often and Stefania is around. Okay, nice, nice.

SPOILER ALERT: Do not read if you haven’t watched the March 11 crossover episodes of “Station 19” (“Train in Vain”) and “Grey’s Anatomy” (“Helplessly Hoping”) on ABC.

RIP, Andrew DeLuca: surgical attending at Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital, ex-boyfriend of Meredith Grey, brother of Carina DeLuca, and, as of ABC’s crossover episodes of “Grey’s Anatomy” and “Station 19″ on Thursday night, murder victim by the hand of a henchman in a trafficking ring. Yes, DeLuca (Giacomo Gianniotti) was stabbed by one of the human traffickers he and Carina (Stefania Spampinato) had chased through Seattle, and despite receiving care at his own hospital, he died. But his efforts weren’t in vain, we learn: The traffickers are all arrested.

It was the culmination of a “Grey’s Anatomy” story that had been cut short by the COVID-19 production shutdown in March. In what turned out to be one of the final episodes of Season 16, DeLuca suspected a patient was being trafficked by her so-called “aunt” who had brought her to the hospital, but because he was in the middle of a manic episode, no one believed him. In the midseason finale of “Grey’s” in December, DeLuca — medicated for his bipolar disorder, well-rested and clear-eyed — spotted the trafficker, Opal (Stephanie Kurtzuba), and this time, he wasn’t going to let her get away.

In an interview with Gianniotti, who was on “Grey’s” for seven seasons, he said that when he learned how his character was going to die, he’d wanted to make sure that it was apparent that DeLuca — “a very brave and noble person,” in Gianniotti’s words — go out as “a pillar of representation for people struggling with mental health.”

“It wasn’t that he was unmedicated and unrested, and that’s what led him to put himself in a dangerous situation,” Gianniotti said. “This was the most DeLuca thing DeLuca has ever done.”

In the episode, as DeLuca hovered between life and death, he communed with Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) on the beach where she has spent most of this season, also in a liminal state, having been taken down by COVID in the season premiere. There, Meredith has hung out with Derek (Patrick Dempsey), her dead husband, and George (T.R. Knight), her dead friend — as well as characters who are still alive.

Of his beach scenes with Meredith, Gianniotti said: “You see DeLuca more happy and relaxed than you’ve ever seen him ever on the show, because all of those stressors are all gone. And he’s with the person whom he loves, which puts them even more at peace.”

“Grey’s Anatomy” — now its 17th season, and still the one most watched shows on television — is itself in limbo, according to showrunner Krista Vernoff. With negotiations with Pompeo for a contract extension ongoing, Vernoff told Variety she has to “plan for both contingencies” as she and the writers room map out the end of the season — or the series.

Though DeLuca is dead, Vernoff revealed that we haven’t seen the last of him — that’s what the beach is for, it seems. And Gianniotti, mentored by “Grey’s” executive producer-director Debbie Allen, returned recently to direct an episode that will air in the spring. He will miss the fans, Gianniotti said: “I’ve never seen a show be so beloved. To feel that love, and have felt that love over the seven seasons has really been remarkable.”

As Vernoff said, “He’s still in the family.”

In an interview, Vernoff talked about how she conceived of DeLuca’s death, the difficulties of not knowing whether the show is ending and how shooting during COVID has changed “Grey’s Anatomy.”

And what in God’s name is happening on the beach!?!

You killed DeLuca.

I’m the worst.

How did this story come about?

Honestly, the story told itself to me. I went for my walk on the beach to come up with my pitches, and these episodes came in whole cloth, like a vision. And I was like, “Oh, no! Really, that’s the story?” And it was. We knew as I pitched it that it was the midseason finale story.

Sometimes stories tell themselves to you, and your heart just breaks. You’re like, “That’s not what I want the end of that story to be!” But that’s so much of life this year.

Can you talk about killing a major character this season, and having the cause of death not be COVID?

That was born, I’m certain, of my psyche wrestling with all of the ongoing tragedies and traumas in the world not stopping due to COVID. There’s this feeling of injustice, like, no, COVID is enough. But sometimes you’re going through all of it at once.

Can you talk about putting DeLuca on the beach with Meredith, and the larger meaning of the beach as a storytelling device this year?

The beach was born out of desire to have an escape from the pandemic.

We came back before almost anyone else. And the actors were scared, and nobody really knew for sure that all the safety protocols were going to work. Doing the pandemic felt like the right thing creatively, but it also felt like the thing that was going to make the actors feel safe to come back to work, because they were all going to be able to be in masks. And if they weren’t, they would be outside. And once the decision was made to do COVID, and then the decision was made to give Meredith COVID, it felt like a way to get Meredith outside without a mask, and in a non-pandemic world.

If you’re a magical thinker like I am, that beach is a real magical in-between place. But if you’re not, if you are not a believer in magical things — if you are an atheist, a scientist, a whatever, my stepsons don’t believe in a magical place — we’ve designed it very carefully so that it also could just be a dream. So anytime someone’s on that beach with Meredith, they are also in her room so she’s hearing their voices from her hospital bed.

When DeLuca visits her on the beach, for me, DeLuca’s between life and death. For my stepsons, Meredith heard in her hospital room that something happened to DeLuca. So now she’s dreaming DeLuca! I wanted very much for the motif to work no matter what you believed.

It just feels to me like whatever you believe, that’s right.

DeLuca has been on the show for a long time. What did you want his final episode to say about him?

I think he went out a hero. I think that he went out fighting for what he believed in. And he was through his mental health crisis. He’d become a very productive member of the hospital staff. And he wasn’t going to let this woman walk away again.

What was it like when you told Giacomo Gianniotti what was going to happen to DeLuca?

He was so relieved that I was not having him kill himself, or go out in a mania frenzy. And he was excited to play it — he played the hell out of it. He actually does appear in a couple more episodes this season. And he’s directing an episode.

I’m going to assume that Meredith wakes up and finds out that he’s dead. Do you see the beach as a place she’ll have an awareness or a memory of in any way?

Yes.

I don’t have too much more to say about that, because I don’t want to spoil too much. And also: Sometimes I change my mind. But at the moment, yes.

It’s been such a heavy season for both “Grey’s” and “Station 19,” reflecting the world right now. But I know that’s not necessarily where your heart is as a storyteller. Can you talk about where the thinking is on continuing “Grey’s Anatomy”?

When you’re living through a pandemic, and you’re coming back amidst a pandemic, and you decide to do the pandemic, the nature of the storytelling turns a little bit darker. And so for this moment, it is where my heart is.

And I also feel like my heart as a storyteller, my sense of light, and my sense of hope and beauty and joy that infuses most of what I do is expressed through that beach. The joy, the collective joy for all of us in getting to see Derek Shepherd again, getting to see George O’Malley again, in getting out of the hospital and getting onto the beach, and seeing Meredith’s relief there — I know that we’re worried about her, but also there’s joy.

And in terms of whether or not it’s the last season of “Grey’s Anatomy,” I don’t know. And that’s the truth. I wish I knew. It’s a source of frustration at this point. And it sort of doubles my job, my workload, because I have to plan for both contingencies. But I am. And God willing, I’ll know soon.

It can’t end like this! Can you reveal how many episodes will be in this season of “Grey’s Anatomy”?

It is a lot. Yeah, it’s a lot, considering what we’re navigating.

Will anyone else be joining Meredith on the beach?

Yes! But I won’t tell you.

Returning cast members or current?

There are some surprises in store.

Now that you have shot more than half the season during COVID, can you talk about what you’ve learned over the course of the year?

The crew is exhausted because they’re behind masks and visors all day. The masks and visors are dehydrating and stultifying, and as a result, you need more breaks. You need to send everybody off the stage to take their masks and visors off to hydrate. You can’t ask everybody to be there for 12 or 13 hours at a stretch. So we’re shooting 10-hour days. And that is a really significant change to what we’re able to accomplish and shoot.

What I’ve learned, and I’m continuing to learn, is how to write the show in a way that makes it producible — we cannot have scenes with as many characters in them. And we cannot have as many scenes. And we cannot have as many locations! Because we can’t have as many company moves. All of it has to become smaller, and that changes the stories we tell. If you usually have five or six people in a scene, and now you usually have two people in a scene, sometimes the whole cast isn’t in the episode. You look at an episode and you’re like, “Where’s Amelia?” Well, she’s home with the kids! We didn’t make the company move.

I think that there are silver linings: Deeper, longer richer scenes are really beautiful things sometimes. But they’re different for “Grey’s Anatomy.”

Do you see a light at the end of the tunnel, both for these fictional characters and for all of us?

Yes, I do! I feel like we’re all living the light at the end of the tunnel right now as our parents and grandparents get vaccinated. And as we begin to emerge, hopefully, from this year of cocoon. I feel like we’re living in in some light, and I do see a light at the end of the tunnel for these characters,whether this is the end of the series or the end of the season.

There’s so much coming up! I know this one is going to be devastating for the fans. And I feel it too. I cried harder watching this episode, this cut, than I’ve cried since I watched the episode where George O’Malley died. And that is a really powerful tribute to the character that we built and to the actor.

Ten Years Later…

Her fingers smoothed along the stone, looking for a small gap. Discovering one high on her left, she gripped it tight and proceeded to continue to scale along the wall. Her muscles burned, sending a warm heat through her body as she continued to climb.

“Corv.”

She glanced up, seeing Rookie sitting comfortably along the edge, almost smirking at her. Rolling her eyes, she scaled the rest of the tower and joined him at the top.

“Flying doesn’t count. I’d like to see you climb,” she told him, placing her bag down. Romie flew around, snapping photos of the incredible view. “Getting some good shots?”

“Yeah! Did you want me to upload them to your Snapgram?” the Rotom asked as she dug out her sketchbook.

“Later,” she answered, studying the landscape for a few minutes. The breeze blew gently through the Wild Area, moving through the dozens of meadows below. Pokémon of all types and shapes were out and about. From the lakes, land and in the air…it was the untameable Wild Area. No matter how many years pass and how many times she explores it, Gloria knows she’s only discovering a tiny glimpse of it.

Her pencil began to move, putting her image onto the paper.

She had been so absorbed into her work that she failed to notice the passing of time. It wasn’t until Rommie alerted her to an incoming call did she break out of the zone.

“Nikki is calling,” the ghost Pokémon alerted her, appearing in front of the sketchpad. Pausing, she put the pencil down as the Rotom accepted the phone call.

“If you’re done sitting up there, come down and have some lunch,” Nikki told her as Gloria glanced over the edge. At the bottom of the ruined tower, stood her sister with her Lopunny holding a picnic basket. Gloria waved as Rommie ended the call. Packing up, the teen put her gloves on as Rookie stood on the grappling hook.

Having done it hundreds of times before, Gloria easily abseiled down the tower as Rookie continued to keep the hook in place. Once she had her feet on the ground, he flew down with the hook in his claw.

“How long were you up there today?” Nikki asked as Gloria packed away the rope.

“Not sure. I got here around seven-ish this morning,” she answered, glancing at the swollen belly her sister was sporting. “Are you sure you’re not carrying twins?”

Nikki laughed as Lopunny laid out the picnic blanket. “Positive. Rai would have a stroke if it were more than one bun,” she replied, accepting her sister’s help to sit down. She released two more of her Pokémon out of their balls, a Ninetails she got when she was in Alola and Luxray. The two sat close by, enjoying the sunlight.

They chatted about everything and anything, catching up on all of the latest news within their family. Nikki was the only sibling she had that still lived in Galar. Their eldest brother, Teddy was still posted in Almia from the last time Gloria spoke to him.

“Evie, Charlie and Victor mentioned they were coming back next month,” Nikki brought up, earning a frown from the youngest child. “They’ll be staying over the Gym Challenge season.”

Gloria groaned, laying back on the picnic blanket. “I’m not participating. I’ve told mum and da that and I’m tired of repeating it.”

“Ria, you’re graduating school soon. Do you know what you want to do?”

“No but—”

“Then participate in the challenge. It’ll be a good way for you to keep yourself occupied over the summer and figure out what you want to do. It’ll keep mum and pa off your back for a while,” Nikki suggested, sending her sister a wink when she sat up. “And it’ll be nice to have the others home for a while.”

“Teddy’s not coming?” Gloria asked, hugging her knees and resting her chin on top.

Nikki shook her head. “Unfortunately, he and Kate are still cleaning up the mess from that terrorist group. But he did promise to visit when this little guy is born,” she stroked her large belly, smiling down at it.

“You’re gonna be a great mum,” she told her sister after they packed up their lunch.

“Aye, I better be. I had you to practice on,” she pinched her sister’s cheek, laughing at Gloria’s attempt to swat her hand away. “You heading home?”

“I promised mum I’d help out,” the teen nodded, walking with her sister back to Motostoke City. They parted ways at the train station, with Nikki taking one back to Hammerlocke. Gloria stood on the platform, waiting for her train with Rookie resting on her shoulder.

The station was almost empty, it being a slow hour of the day. Something she wasn’t going to complain about. It was nice to have some room as she texted her mother that she was on her way back.

Participate in the challenge. It’ll be a good way to keep yourself occupied over the summer and figure out what you want to do.

Arceus, I still don’t know what I want to do, she thought, biting her bottom lip. That was the hardest part about being the youngest of a large family. The pressure to graduate with top marks and have her future mapped out. Gloria didn’t know what she wanted to do in life and the rush to decide wasn’t helping. Maybe the challenge can help.

“Corv,” Rookie tapped his beak against her cheek, bringing her out of her thoughts as the train pulled up. She scratched his side as she climbed aboard.

Three Weeks Later…

“—Graduation will be held at the end of summer. Pick up your gowns from the office this afternoon,” the teacher informed them from behind his desk. “A reminder to those who are hoping to participate in the Gym Challenge for the season. You’ll need a letter of endorsement and no, your parents do not count, Michael.”

A few snickered as the class was dismissed. Gloria was gathering her things when Hop leaned against her desk. From his smirk and bright yellow eyes, he was up to something.

“If it’s illegal, your mum will kill us,” she reminded him, rising to her feet.

“Nah, nothing like that. You said Charlie’s coming home today,” he said, and she nodded. He threw an arm around her shoulders as they headed out of the classroom. “Then let’s get our gowns and head off. I wanna see all the eeveelutions he’s got.”

“Hop, Gloria!” Samantha called out as they paused in the hallway. “I heard you two are entering this season.”

Hop straightened up, grinning. “Aye, you’re looking at your future champion. I’ll be knocking the crown off Lee’s head,” he boasted as Gloria elbowed his side.

“Is Leon going to sponsor you both?” she asked, glancing at the brunette. “I understand him sponsoring Hop, but—”

“You too,” she replied before skipping off down the hall.

Hop squeezed her into his side, smiling down at the teen. “Don’t worry about her, mate. Lee’s gonna sponsor both of us,” he reassured her as she rolled her eyes.

“Raihan could sponsor me too. You know he’d do it in a heartbeat.”

“Oh! Imagine if he did, we’d be the second gen rivals.”

She laughed, pulling away and walking backwards. “You are dead set on us being rivals,” she commented as he shrugged, putting his hands in his pockets. “How’s Wooloo doing after his grand adventure?”

“Fine. Apparently, he ended up in Tuffield,” he answered as they headed to front office. They grabbed their gowns and left, saying their goodbyes along the way. Hop was itching to get to Wedgehurst, practically dragging the brunette along with him. As soon as they stepped off of the train, the teen had sprinted ahead.

“Hop!” Gloria called out as he ran around the corner. Shaking her head, she followed after, jogging towards the research centre. When Charlie called her last week, he told her he’d be helping out at Professor Magnolia’s lab. Apparently is was part of an exchange between Magnolia and Professor Rowan to swap assistants.

When she stepped into the lab, she found an Eevee and its seven evolutions running around with Sonia’s Yamper and Wooloo. The pokeball in her pocket vibrated as Rookie released himself.

“Wow,” Gloria commented, spotting her brother coming down the stairs. “It’s like the day-care in here.”

“Just prettier,” Charlie agreed with a laugh, hugging his sister tightly. “Good to see you’re still the midget.”

“Oi, watch it you nerd,” she warned as he winked. “Has Hop been a maniac?”

Charlie put his hands in his coat pockets. “Aye. He’s even tried to convince me to part with Glaceon over there,” he nodded his head at the younger teen who sat cross-legged on the floor. Glaceon and Espeon were climbing into his lab while Flareon climbed onto his back. “Which is not happening.”

“Aw come on, mate! You’ve got plenty of Pokémon with you.”

“Don’t be daft and catch your own,” he shot back, glancing at his sister. “But I hear Leon’s back in town tomorrow. Da says he’s grabbing some Pokémon off him to give you two.”

“He told me this morning,” Hop confirmed, gazing at the brunet. “Do you know which ones? Cause your da has a lot.”

“It’ll be a surprise, I’d imagine,” Gloria crossed her arms over her chest and looked at her brother. “You coming ‘round for tea?”

“You bet your arse. I’ve missed mum’s beef stew. Sinnoh is great and all but I do miss a good serving of chips.”

Every time I hear Breathe I get more and more sure it’s not going to move from my top spot. It’s been there since I heard it the first time and never say never but it’s going to take a lot. The song just speaks to me.

My biggest climbers are Georgia, followed by Denmark and Austria which does check out with my feeling over the week. 

The first time I heard Georgia I couldn’t stand it, I liked the “lock me” lines but the rest I hated. It’s grown on me though and now I think it’s a really fun song. I’ll be sad when we inevitably won’t see it in the final. Unless... (a great staging could save them)

Denmark is just really nice when you listen to it on Spotify. I think the national final performance does the song a real disservice and I hope they’ll do better in Turin. And Austria has also just grown on me a lot from listening on Spotify, it’s a song I’ll find stuck in my head at random times.

Biggest fall goes to Albania closely followed by Finland. I think Finland’s fall hurts the most though, they were in my top 10! I just find the song more boring every time I listen to it and that’s not a good sign. Albania I didn’t realise had fallen that much, it’s a good song and I do like it, I just like other songs better?

Albania could be mood based though, I have a feeling this is a song that will rise and fall a lot in my top.

What else? Ukraine isn’t last anymore! Italy was grazing my top 10 for a few hours during the week but ultimately fell back down to the same spot. Norway is slowly but surely growing on me more and more with every listen. Yum yum.

In general these songs are just really hard to rank. I like A LOT of them. It’s very even for me. All songs between 6 and 32 could probably be placed in any order, depending on my mood for the day.

Shailene Woodley shared a quote about finding your power during “storms” after fiancé Aaron Rodgers revealed he was unvaccinated and had contracted COVID-19.

Woodley, 29, apparently deleted the quote from her Instagram story a few hours after posting it.

Rodgers, quarterback for the Green Bay Packers, revealed this week he had tested positive for coronavirus and would miss Sunday’s game against the Kansas City Chiefs.

The quarterback landed back in the headlines Friday as he clarified comments he made at a press conference during an appearance on Pat McAfee’s show.

“First of all, I didn’t lie in the initial press conference,” Rodgers told McAfee. “During that time, it was a witch hunt that was going on across the league, where everybody in the media was so concerned about who was vaccinated and who wasn’t and what that meant and who was being selfish and who would talk about it, what it meant if they said it’s a personal decision and they shouldn’t have to disclose their own medical information.

“And, at the time, my plan was to say that I have been immunized,” he continued. “It wasn’t some sort of ruse or lie.”

“It was the truth, and I’ll get into the whole immunization in a second,” he added. “But had there been a follow-up to my statement that I’ve been immunized, I would have responded with this: I would have said, ‘Look, I’m not some sort of anti-vax, flat-Earther. I am somebody who’s a critical thinker.'”

Rodgers first announced his engagement to Woodley in February of 2021 while receiving his NFL MVP award. Woodley later confirmed the couple’s engagement while appearing on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.”

“Yes, we are engaged, we are engaged,” Woodley told Fallon at the time. “But for us, it’s not new news, you know, so it’s kind of funny, everybody right now is freaking out over it and we’re like, ‘Yeah we’ve been engaged for a while.'”

Grossest memory: A teacher forced me (as in “you don’t go outside until you’ve finished it” forced) to eat tomatoes. I had these four huge slices, like they gave me the biggest they had, and I managed to eat two of them. It wasn’t enough for my teacher and made me eat the rest. Of course I’ve been so sick they had to call my parents to pick me up after 5 minutes (and missed the whole afternoon classes). Mother even got angry at this teacher because “She says she doesn’t like it and you make her eat it and now you claim it’s not your fault she get sick.” Even now I can barely eat a slice or two if it’s in a sandwich, but most of the times I take it away.
