I just wanna say I really appreciate your opinions on IWTV. I am not a multi shipper at all. I only ship loustat. And some posts have been so annoying to deal with. i actually don't think your other anon went through! but assuming it was about how people don't think luz is queer enough if she dates a boy..... yeah, it's not my favorite thing either. and in my experience it really just comes back to ship wars and feeling Threatened.

like, the reason i like amity/luz/hunter so much is because the three of them have SO MANY relationship parallels, it compels me eternally. and the way i think about them as a triad is way more in line with romantic shipping than nuclear family sibling constructs, even when i'm writing hunter as strictly platonic with both of them.

so i end up having more in common with monogamous luz/hunter shippers than monogamous luz/amity shippers, just bc we're both shipping non-canon stuff -- as long as those shippers don't attack amity for no reason. and i get wary of people who have Any kind of "luz/hunter is incest" stance because i'm like .....i recognize that you probably have some kind of personal experience factoring into your reading of the text, here. like i don't want to take you in bad faith immediately.

thinking about the way impa says “our zelda” after link tells her about the light dragon, and what zelda did to become it. thinking about how they were both her protectors before the calamity, and how neither of them are now. how they both still want to protect her. how impa waited for a century, how impa is old, how she cannot protect zelda anymore. how link is young. how he can protect her. how he can protect her for the both of them. how even if impa doesn’t protect zelda the way link does they both still do. how it is “our zelda.” how her protection is not links burden to bear alone. how it draws that distinction between their zelda— green eyes, princess, protected— and that beast in the sky. how it gives link hope. how it shows that, for 100 years and more, it has been zelda that both impa and link wanted to protect. how impa believes they can protect her once more, “our zelda,” the girl with green eyes who likes silent princess and studying history.

impa did not study the geoglyphs because they were linked to dragon tears. link did not touch those dragon tears because they were linked to a dragon. they both did it with the hope of getting closer to where zelda is, to find her, to protect her just as they have always done. thinking about the intimacy of sharing the same role with someone. of how only impa understands what it must be like for link to want to protect zelda, and vice versa.

Books of 2024: KILLING FLOOR by Lee Child.

This isn't a genre I typically read; HOWEVER!: my dream agent was on an episode of the Writing Excuses podcast about beginnings, and they said this one is Very Good, so I borrowed my dad's paperback copy to give it a whirl.

I'm low-key hoping this will help me sort out some Genre Issues™ I suspect I'm having with a writing project, too, which is a nice added bonus! Excited to see how this goes.

not to get really deep and personal on tumblr dot com but i think today's therapy session may have been the first ever time i actually felt my mind and my body connect. like. it felt fucking cosmic? the revelation that they were always meant to work in tandem, and that they speak two different languages, thoughts and senses, and that i am their mediator, i am the one who makes sure they both get what they need.

i think this is why it's so common for mentally ill people to "know" their anxiety or depression aren't true to life, that what they're afraid of isn't really happening, and yet the pain persists. because the pain is your body. and your body does not understand words and logic like your brain does. your body needs to have its hand held or its back stroked. your body needs to cry. your body needs to feel and hear the physical sensation of you saying the reassurances out loud, because the words don't translate, but the sensations do. the movement of your mouth, the vibration of your voice.

and if we do not give our body this, then it doesn't matter how much we heal our minds. we have to heal the body too. we have to feel and acknowledge the pain and ask it, "what do you need?" maybe that's a bath. maybe that's lying down and squeezing a pillow really tight. maybe that's screaming at the top of your lungs. maybe that's walking around the block for an hour. whatever it is, it is the body's version of the anxiety and depression and illness. and like the mind's version, it needs to be helped, gently and consistently, until someday it knows that the fear and guilt isn't real.

You've written a lot of different perspectives in SB, so I was wondering if you've had a favourite character to write, or a character that you've found more difficult to get their voice how you wanted.

Personally, Daemon seems like he wouldn't be the easiest to write, but I think you've portrayed him in a really authentic way.

i'm so happy that you've enjoyed my daemon characterization! he's definitely complex to write, particularly when observed through other characters' perspectives. he's a highly reaction person and keeps his emotions so close to his chest it's often hard to figure out what's actually motivating him. he's also very good at projecting his own issues onto what goes on around him, so often his behavior seems out of place or extreme until you get the context of what's going on internally. think of the contrast in readers' reactions to him in chapter 8 vs chapter 9, for example. that being said, his actions are very directly tied to his emotions, so writing his povs isn't super tricky.

my favorite povs to write are usually the ones where i can delve more into the eerie/uncanny aspect of religion, mysticism, and magic. it adds another layer of complexity and intrigue to the writing and lets me play around more with dramatic language and metaphors. helaena's povs are always just steeped in that kind of stuff since she perceives space-time very differently, so she's always a joy to write. aemond also has his moments here, in scenes like those in chapters 10, 19, or the upcoming chapter 24.

the character that i have to be the most careful with, by far, is rhaenyra. part of this is just due to her position within the power dynamics, as she is ultimately the one in charge and so is the default "bad guy" when something happens that aemond doesn't like. she's also the one who's forced to make all of the tough decisions where there's no answer that will make everyone happy- the decisions that no one else wants to make, but which do have to be made. another part of this is the trick i pulled on y'all at the beginning, where i made her seem super unsympathetic through aemond's pov so you would empathize with his suspicion and hostility even though objectively she was consistently choosing the lesser of two evils.

but even after that i've found that her character's decisions (in stormbreak) get a somewhat disproportionate amount of criticism compared to characters on team green, but also compared to other male characters on team black. i really expected daemon to be much less popular than rhaenyra in this fic, because he stands by all of her unpopular decisions and was equally awful at dealing with the problematic power dynamics with aemond. and he has so many additional red flags that rhaenyra doesn't: his violent outbursts, his bloodthirstiness and ambivalence towards the other greens, his very transparent valyrian supremacy, etc. but people have been very sympathetic to his character, so i actually don't have to be nearly as careful with him as i'd anticipated given reactions to rhaenyra. i have to be a lot more explicit in making rhaenyra sympathetic than the other members of the main trio in order to have the same effect on readers overall, so writing her character (both within her own pov and in other characters' povs) takes a loooong time! it's an interesting challenge for sure.

Nobody tell this website that egg jokes aren't annoying because the concept of someone potentially being a trans woman instead of a feminine man is somehow bad (it's not in the slightest and if that does turn out to be the case, said woman should be treated with nothing but respect in terms of her gender identity). They're annoying because you do not know that person and misgendering anyone is rude and even if you're right, that's not anyone's business but theirs and you're still misgendering them now.

Question: I (Goldblood - 8.5 - Assigned male at hatchIng) do not know if I am really as cisgender as I thought. My moirail (8 - Olive) is a trans male and I don’t know if I should ask them for gender advice or not (he is still a little mad at me for telling him he was ignoring his olive history)
